Lyrics
We came across the west sea We didn't have much idea of the Kind of climate waiting We used our hands for guidance Like the children of a preacher Like a dry tree seeking water Or a daughter Nice 'n' sleazy Nice 'n' sleazy does it
Nice 'n' sleazy Nice 'n' sleazy Does it does it Does it every time Nice 'n' sleazy Nice 'n' sleazy Does it does it Does it every time Nice 'n' sleazy does it
Nice 'n' sleazy Nice 'n' sleazy Does it does it Does it every time Nice 'n' sleazy Nice 'n' sleazy Does it does it Does it every time Nice 'n' sleazy does it
An angel came from outside Had no halo had no father With a coat of many colours He spoke of brothers many Wine and women song a plenty He began to write a chapter In history Nice 'n' sleazy Nice 'n' sleazy does it Nice 'n' sleazy does it Nice 'n' sleazy does it Does it every time
Songwriters: Hugh Cornwell/Jean Jacques Burnel/Dave Greenfield/Jet Black (Brian John Duffy)

A crowd of intriguing covers can always be counted on to serve as a shock to a multitude of our assumptions about some players and their own works. For instance, the Stranglers covered Burt Bacharach. Read that again, please – they made their own version of his song and I somehow wish I would've heard more of this type of remakes, i.e. a group known for a certain style takes something from a different one, which makes the whole thing more interesting. Sure, if you listen to the original by Dionne Warwick, you can locate the Stranglers following the template well, but they went into the direction Bacharach might have gone, had he called, hm, Love, for instance. Yes, they did a pastiche of the 60's in the 70's.

The Stranglers
Tumblr media
