I’ve been reading through Darth Momin’s Wookiepedia entry recently and he is fascinating. Momin is considered a “Sith heretic” which, conceptually, is just…… how bad/weird/annoying do you have to be for the SITH, the biggest annoying asshole whiners in the galaxy, to look at you and think, “Yeah I’mma need this bitch OUTTA HERE ASAP”???
The answer is: pretty goddamn annoying. But I’ll get to that in a second.
His “heresy” is believing that the Sith do not control the Dark Side; the dark side controls them. They exist solely to serve it, to please it through their works and actions. He does not believe in the wanton destruction of his peers; he believes in creation. Adding to the world instead of taking it apart. Unfortunately his idea of “adding to the world” is shit like “use the Force to lock an entire city in the second before it’s utter annihilation, thus creating an endless source of pain and fear and terror to fuel my Evil Engine so I can get a good grade in Being Loved By the Dark Side, which is both normal and something possible to achieve.”
And then he fucking FAILS at it because some pesky little Jedi get onto his engine and the mere presence of light side energy distracts him so much that he EXPLODES HIMSELF. this guy sucks so fucking bad it’s unreal. I’m obsessed.
Momin thinks the Sith obsession with Jedi is stupid and irrelevant to their purpose, which is to honor the Dark Side and execute its will across the Galaxy. This school of thought appears to be unique to him, since it is considered antithetical to everything mainstream Sith believe, and it dies with him, because they ensure his name is not recorded in any Sith or Jedi holocron; his legacy is all but eradicated. This is 1) hilarious, but also 2) indicative of the accusation he levels against the Sith: they are so focused on hoarding and hiding knowledge that they undermine themselves and the efforts of their entire group, when they could be serving one goal — honoring the Dark Side — and rebuilding the galaxy in its image. This guy is technically the eclectic fringe hippie guy of the Sith, and he’s like. An art / architecture / engineering triple major with a minor in being fucking creepy.
And the reason he is LIKE this is because he got one (1) bad art review on his first sculpture — which was totally understandable considering he made said sculpture out of the family pet. And Momin decides, fuck it if y’all don’t like my work then I don’t like YOU. Also DIE.
His art (and therefore life) philosophy becomes obsessed with pain and fear. To him they are the only true emotions, the only ones that define our nature, the only emotions that matter. Sure dude. I’m sure that has nothing to do with everyone hating your art and being freaked out by you. You totally didn’t create an entire artistic vision that claims how people receive YOUR work is universal and the only purpose of art, because there is no way your art isn’t just awful and bad and nauseating. Noooo, that’s what art is supposed to be!
He also thinks Vader is a bitch, which is hilarious, because seconds after this Vader smears him across the floor.
If this guy was a doughnut, the outside dough would be Art/Stem Boy Who Tells You You Like Art Wrong and his inside would be Hannibal + Villanelle jelly.
He may as well have said “This is my design.”
Oh, and on top of being a brilliant dingus, this guy somehow conjured a door to the dark side itself, pulled his original body from it and transfered his consciousness to it (implying that he has technically unlocked the key to immortality that the Sith have been banging on about for eons), is strong enough in the dark side that a fragment of his soul can survive inside a stupid little helmet long after he’s dead, doesn’t believe in the Master-Apprentice dynamic, is a perfect plot vehicle for any time travel fic because if any bitch has found a way to the World Between Worlds it’s this guy and he WILL be making it your problem, and is somehow both one of the most unique and most exhausting Sith —
All while looking like a rejected Keebler elf.
I’m obsessed.
(Credit to @gffa for these comic images I found in the #darth momin tag!)
#I need to actually buy these comics because I NEED to see the full picture but goddamn I’m so ridiculously amused.#this guy is like. an evil liberal arts school kid. that is objectively so fucking funny#he names his lightsabers Praxis and Direct Action#he is staging the bodies of his enemies as an art installation in the middle of a walkway so everyone has to see his GLORIOUS PURPOSE#he is the teacher’s pet of the fucking dark side. look at me. that’s hilarious. WHY IS THAT SO FUNNY#darth momin#you know i love a freak in a mask. i reject his white boy face though. i’m gonna commission art of him and he will look so awful#darth Vader#I don’t even go here but I do now. I’m a Jedi lover but this guy is too ridiculous not to stan . I’m going to write something so weird#long post#ALSO HIS NAME IS BASICALLY EVIL MOOMINS. THANK YOU TOVE JANSSON!

Darth Momin Lightsabers | Lightsaber Profile
The Darth Momin lightsabers are a pair of two single-bladed red lightsabers wielded by Darth Momin in Star Wars Canon. Each hilt features an angled handguard extending out of the emitter. Darth Momin is a mask-wearing humanoid Sith Lord with a deep interest in dark side artifacts and knowledge. He exists sometime before the Rise of the Empire. This has been one of the strong issues of Pak’s Darth Vader so far for me, probably because it feels like a retread of Soule’s Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith and because it’s possible that it’s just complete word salad nonsense or it might be something genuinely meaningful. One of the things that explains so much about a lot of Anakin stories--especially ones that center around his destiny and his choice to become Darth Vader--is that, if you look at them through the lens of the Force taking a rolled up newspaper and bapping him on the nose with it, trying to get him to actually search his feelings and face himself and understand. That’s what the Mortis arc reads to me as being all about, everything that happens there is the Force trying to get Anakin to face his own guilt and anger, to let them go, so that he can fulfill his destiny, that’s why the Force works so hard to play out these things around him. To get him to think. And that’s what happens again and again and again in Dark Lord of the Sith, where the Force literally slams a vision into his head, clears the dark side out from his vision, his eyes are blue, and he sees Obi-Wan in a field somewhere, that he would lower his lightsaber and say Anakin’s name, if Anakin would only go to him and ask for help. And every single arc after that is the Force showing him a path he could have taken. He could have let go of his attachments and stayed in the light and saved Jedi knowledge for the next generation like Jocasta Nu. He could have fallen to the dark, but still helped the future generations like Ferren Barr did. He could have just walked away all together and lived a life away from all of it like Eeth Koth did. Instead, he rejected them all, “No. This is all there is.” he says of the path he has chosen. He chose to be frozen in time and to hold onto his fear and hate like Darth Momin did, to try to force his will onto the rest of the galaxy. And he failed. He couldn’t bring Padme back to life and he couldn’t move on, because he refuses to look within himself and truly face himself and what he wants. So along comes the Force again. Yet one more time, through another dark-side-laden cave, where a mysterious creature pelts him with visions of himself and the people that mean the most to him, you see Obi-Wan, you see Luke, you see Sidious, you see Anakin himself, it goes on for twelve pages. Vader is just stomping his way through enemies and crumbling stone perches over lava, already battered and barred from using the Force, while this creature asks him, What does it mean to be chosen? Who chooses? What do you want? What do you need? If you could choose, would you be chosen? Have you decided? Yet, Vader ignores it all. He’s heard this kind of thing before, he dismisses it as just a test from his Master, he refuses yet again to think through his own wants and needs, to find the path that’s truly meant for him. Instead, he just punches and kills and murders his way through things based on his own anger and anything that gets in his way will be destroyed. Is it possible that the Webbish Bog is manipulating him, rather than genuinely trying to help him? Yeah, of course. It’s holding a Sith Wayfinder and lives on Mustafar, the whole reason Sidious sent him here was to punish Vader and make sure that he was still steeped in the dark side. But even dark side caves show you things that the Force wants you to acknowledge. Luke’s visions in the cave on Dagobah are similar--he sees Vader’s image, strikes him down, and then sees his own face in Vader’s helmet, because it wasn’t about Vader at all, it was about his own fears and confronting them. It’s like the caves of Ilum that the Jedi have as their most important tradition--you’re shown the things you fear, and you must let them go, you must face them and pass through them, you must let go of the prisons you’re keeping yourself in, each of them unique to the individual, each of them meant to be about a Jedi looking to understand themselves. In that confrontation on Dagobah, Luke struck out in fear, he failed the test set before him because he couldn’t face his feelings. And we know how he goes on to fail when he leaves Dagobah, because he doesn’t trust his friends, because he fears for them, rather than because they truly need his help. He spends weeks, if not months in a tailspin after the revelations and how wonky his connection with the Force is. He has to work so hard and face so much of himself to get back to the path that’s right for him, that he’s destined for. In this confrontation on Mustafar, Vader strikes out in anger and he’s powerful enough (and these are real, rather than visions), that he stomps his way up to the Webbish Bog and makes it through on sheer power alone. “Do you think you passed this test... or failed it?” There’s no definitive answer, because the Force doesn’t really care about whether or not het gets the Wayfinder, it’s about whether or not he looks within himself. He passes Sidious’ test, he stays trapped in the dark and his own hate and pain and fear, but he fails the Force’s test to look inside himself, the face himself, to understand himself, and to let go of all that pain. It will still be so much longer before Vader can truly find the path he’s meant to find in the Force, because he still refuses to even look inward to what he really needs.

Hmmmmmm looks familiar
Darth Sidious recovered Momin's mask from the Jedi Archive vault. After learning of Momin's story from the mask, Sidious gave it to Darth Vader as a gift
During his time as a Sith, Momin wielded a pair of red Sith lightsabers resembling rapiers. Using these lightsabers, he sculpted his own helmet, which he wore frequently for as long as he lived
Momin's mask, with his spirit still inside, was eventually stored in a secret vault in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Momin built nine fortresses for vader on mustafar to open the portal to the dark side to find Padmé.
Nice parallels. Maybe bens mask has a smart meaning or a certain purpose after all.

Villains better suited for The Rise Of Skywalker instead of Palpatine
The problem with Palpatine’s return is it undermines the entire story of the Prequel and Original Trilogies. Palpatine outliving Anakin, Obi-Wan, Padme, Han Luke and Leia is the ultimate desecration of Star Wars. “it was always the plan to bring Palpatine back” and that is the problem. The mere thought of bringing back Palpatine back undermines Anakin’s sacrifice and redemption. It also undermines the story of The First Order, instead of bothering to make Snoke the big bad or focusing on Kylo Ren as an absolute tyrant as Supreme Leader, they choose to instead go backwards, thus giving a giant fuck you to all 3 trilogies. So here are how I think the villain of Episode IX should have been handled.
Rae Sloane. Rae Sloane founded The First Order! Sloane was loyal to the Empire, so much so, rather than allowing it to cease to exist, she recruited other loyalists and they fled to the Unknown Territories beyond Jakku. She founded the First Order. Together with Hux, she could usurp control of the First Order and become Supreme Leader, which would start a civil war, those loyal to Sloane and those loyal to Kylo. We can have someone who could be a great antagonist to Leia. The founder of The First Order and the mother of the Resistance. What makes Rae a compelling character is the fact that she believes what the Empire is doing is right. In her eyes, the Empire is doing the right thing, purging lawlessness from a galaxy overrun by bureaucrats that care little for the common people. She’s wrong, but like great villains before her, audiences can see where she’s coming from even if they don’t agree with it. Throughout her many appearances in the supplemental Star Wars narratives, she is constantly pushing for the Empire to be “just.” When things start to fall apart after the Battle of Endor, Rae struggles to keep the remnants of the fleet playing by the unspoken rules of warfare and is frustrated to see the Empire careen into backstabbing and incompetence. You can see Rae’s influence in the First Order with its strict hierarchy and minute by-the-books stringency that makes Palpatine’s Empire look positively laissez-faire by comparison. Supreme Leader Rae Sloane would make The First Order a force to be reckoned with and what better way to end it than with the First Order’s founder?
The Grysk. The Grysks were introduced in the new canon novel Thrawn:Alliances. They are what brings Thrawn to the Empire in hopes of co-existing to fight this threat in the Unknown Regions. Grysks are a species living somewhere in the Unknown Regions. Creatures half of myth, whom few have ever seen. It is said that they are nomads, with no fixed home, traveling in spacecraft so numerous they blot out the stars. They are said to be terrifying warriors, overwhelming their opponents by sheer numbers and ferocity. The fact that these intergalactic conquerors are not the main threat in the Sequel Trilogy is baffling. You could've had Ben Solo sense they were coming during his Jedi days and made the ultimate sacrifice to become Kylo Ren and join The First Order because he knew the New Republic was not ready to face such a threat. It wouldn’t make what he was doing the entire trilogy right, but it would make explaiin why he turned and what his motivations are.
Supreme Leader Snoke. Killing off Snoke was a mistake, everyone knows that, so why not reveal he survived. Even Andy Serkis believes he should've lived and why waste such a talented actor? The perfect way to end the saga is to bring Snoke back. I know just how Snoke could have been brought back. The Darth Momin comics could've been the way to bring him back. Darth Momin kept his spirit within his helmet, so who's to say Snoke could not have done the same with his ring? Snoke's ring is from the catacombs of Vader's castle. It was made of gold and was enscribed with glyphs from the Four Sages of Dwartii. Ancient force users and Palpatine had the statues. When Snoke was cut with the lightsaber, everything but his hand with his ring fell off the thrown. It just sits there, untouched. And when Kylo puts the ring on, he becomes possessed by Snoke. It was all apart of the plan to transfer his soul into Kylo Ren, a younger and more powerful vessel. Or even better, reveal Snoke as Darth Plagueis. It makes sense and ties the three trilogies together. Darth Plagueis was a powerful Sith Lord who could influence the midichlorians to create life and also save others from dying. He taught everything he knew to his apprentice, Sheev Palpatine (aka Darth Sidious), but he eventually lost his power and young Palpatine killed him in his sleep. How could Plagueis not foresee his own demise at the hands of his ambitious apprentice? Why did Plagueis suddenly “lose his power”? The truth is, he didn’t lose his power and he knew Sheev planned to kill him. It was part of the plan. By dying, I believe Darth Plagueis was able to transmit himself into Sheev and assume control of his body, almost like an infectious disease. Ever notice his name? Darth Plagueis. Plague, as in an infectious disease. Darth Plagueis unlocked the secret to immortality by moving from one body to the next, continuing his lifespan through multiple hosts over countless years. Ever wonder why Palpatine was so obsessed with training a powerful young apprentice? Surely he knew that one day the apprentice would want to overthrow him, so why train his own murderer? In Return of the Jedi, Emperor Palpatine continually provokes Luke to strike him down. Why would Palpatine want to be killed if the goal is longevity? Because Emperor Palpatine was assumed by Darth Plagueis and, through his death, he would then be able to transmit himself into a new host body. He wasn’t just looking for an apprentice, he was looking for a new body since Palpatine’s body was growing old. Luke Skywalker was meant to be the next host body for Darth Plagueis. But unfortunately for Plagueis, Darth Vader had a change of heart and defeated the Emperor. Snoke was Plagueis. It’s the only way to make things work. StarWars.com describes Snoke as a seeker of arcane and ancient lore, and the Last Jedi Visual Dictionary shows that he is a collector of rare memorabilia. At some point, Snoke must have found the wreckage of the Death Star on the forest moon Endor, and was infected by Darth Plagueis when he came upon the corpse of Palpatine. Did you ever wonder why Snoke thought it was so important to complete Kylo Ren’s training? It’s because Snoke was Darth Plagueis and he was training his next host body. Plagueis didn’t have a choice but to infect a really old political influencer like Snoke. Kylo was being groomed to become the next host body. Remember the infamous(ly terrible) scene in The Last Jedi where Snoke is “predicting” how Kylo Ren will kill Rey? Wasn’t it a little too obvious? Wouldn’t Snoke have been able to foresee Kylo’s treachery? See through his conflict? It’s because he wasn’t predicting Rey’s death, he predicted his own. He knew Kylo would kill him. He deliberately bullied and provoked Kylo in order to stir his anger into hatred to further fuel his dark side and lead him to completing his training. So let's say Kylo puts on his ring for his official coronation as Supreme Leader and Plagueis take's full possession of Kylo Ren, Plagueis had an apprentice who has fully cemented himself into the dark side and now a new and more powerful body. Darth Plagueis has everything he needs to way waste to the Resistance and the final destruction of the Jedi.
Kylo Ren and the Knights Of Ren. This entire trilogy has been building up Kylo Ren as the villain and the Knights Of Ren have been built in mystique ever since. Kylo Ren has fully embraced the dark side and The First Order, his story is not of redemption, but condemnation. We need to see his motivations. Show us why he chose The First Order and why he chose to rule it as The Supreme Leader after killing Snoke. Show us his tyranny as the Supreme Leader. We need to see that the Knights Of Ren being completely loyal to Kylo Ren. We need to see them as the only survivors of Luke’s Academy. Show us companionship between Kylo and his knights. We need to see them as being Kylo’s personal army and trump card. Unlike The Praetorian Guards who were faceless Guards who all just die. Let the Knights Of Ren be people and only unmask in the presence of their Supreme Leader and show them as Kylo's only true family in his eyes. We know that the purpose of The Knights Of Ren will destroy The Resistance and finally destroy The Last Jedi. Show us what reasons Kylo has that he thinks he can justify what he’s doing. And show us that Kylo Ren is wrong. Show us that Kylo believes that he’s right, but that his belief doesn’t justify what he’s doing, the people he’s hurt, the lives he’s destroyed, the damage that he thinks will be justified if they can only get what he really wants. Show us that Kylo Ren is wrong, show that his fall will be hard and that he has to suffer with the consequences of his actions.
The climax of the movie should be at Vader's Castle on Mustafar. The new Jedi have risen, The Skywalkers. Rey, Finn, Poe, Rose and Jannah have become the Skywalkers and will face Kylo and the Knights Of Ren. It ends in Kylo's defeat and Rey severs his connection to the force and live the rest of his days out imprisoned for war crimes against the galaxy.

@leadstosuffering asked:
| with indifference, he indicated the artifact that had drawn the other man’s attention. “ it is a mask possessed by its creator, the sith lord darth momin. ”
the shift was subtle, but——unmistakable.
loose muscles, to taut ones.
admiration, to analysis.
his eyes had widened.
then, after a moment, they shrunk again.
“ another sith lord, you say? ”
admittedly, the statement had taken him aback somewhat.
that said, his voice was smooth.
largely unaffected.
still——he made no move to approach, after that.
however the statement had been intended, or——however one interpreted it, it seemed to him, to say the least, unwise.
“ interesting. ”
of course, had the assertation been made by someone, or, indeed, almost anyone other than lord vader——well.
he would have in all likelihood assumed that they were mistaken, or lying.
lord vader, on the other hand, was almost never mistaken.
likewise, in this instance, as he understood it——he would have had no motivation to lie.
“ of course, the ways of the sith are——largely a mystery, to me. ”
his eyes shifted to the mask again.
“ that said, i have heard stories, as i would suspect most have. ”
they worked themselves slowly over the lines of it.
lines which he now saw, as they were.
as they had been made——by a lightsaber.
“ some of which seemed to imply that they had attained some mastery, over death. ”
he stopped, then tilted his head one side, after a moment.
“ admittedly, i had always interpreted those implications as——overstated. ”
of course, he was aware that lord vader might have been overstating this, also.
still——he thought not.
he turned his attention to the artifact, again.
it unsettled something in him.
that much was true.
not because he saw any hint of what the other man had intimated——on the contrary.
he saw nothing whatsoever to imply it.
that was what unsettled him.
he was aware, of course, that it might have been beyond his ability.
to see what vader saw, that was.
nevertheless, he would attempt to learn to see it.
if not in the same way, then in others.
there were always signs.
“ you have witnessed this, i take it? ”
his eyes shifted to vader again.
“ may i ask how? ”

TROS SPECIAL EDITION PT 3
INT MUSTAFAR VADER’S CASTLE
Kylo reaches the fortress entrance.
Darth Vader(VO): Soon you will wield dark power even greater than my master.
A secret door opens.
INT VADER’S CASTLE
Kylo enters and is guided, by the voice of Vader, deep below the castle.
INT VADER’S CASTLE UNDERGROUND HANGAR
Kylo walks out into a enormous hangar. There’s an open shaft in the middle of the bunker filled with multi-levels of droids building ships. It appears to go all the way to the center of the planet. He follows a line that leads to a circle in the floor. He crouches down to touch it.
INT AJAN KLOSS JUNGLE TEMPLE
The force ghost of Luke Skywalker stands before Rey!
Luke: Give me your lightsaber.
Rey hands him the weapon.
Luke: Kneel.
Rey kneels before Master Luke. She closes her eyes.
Luke: By the right of the Council, by the will of the Force, Rey of Jakku, Jedi Knight, you may rise.
Rey: Wait! What?!
INT MUSTAFAR VADER’S CASTLE UNDERGROUND HANGAR
Rey opens her eyes to discover that she’s inside a hangar.
She rises in the middle of a circle in the floor. The circle lights up and a portal to another world opens up. Green ghosts slowly pour out of the black hole and into countless rows of red armored stormtroopers.
Rey: Where am I? Ben!
She feels something moving in her pocket. She reaches in to find a ring. It burns her hand and she drops the object. It bounces several times with a ting-ting-ting. Black smoke in the shape of a person billows from the black stone.
Snoke: Scavenger.
Rey: Ben killed you!
Snoke: Things are not always what they seem.
Rey: How are you still alive?!
Snoke: My spirit exists here on Mustafar because of this ring. It was forged using ancient Sith alchemy.
Rey: What do you want?!
Snoke: What you see is Lord Vader’s army of the dead. A secret he was keeping from Darth Sidious. All the souls lost from the destruction of the Death Star were channeled to this nexus point. He only lacked the key to open the door.
Rey: And?!
Snoke: It was you all along! You were the darkness rising, not Kylo Ren! The army…and the galaxy are yours to command…Bright Star! Soon your true potential for the dark side will be fully realized!
INT AJAN KLOSS JUNGLE TEMPLE
Kylo Ren looks up to see Luke Skywalker! He was no longer on Mustafar.
Luke: Well, I told you I’d see you around kid.
Kylo Ren: I don’t want to see you!
A voice from the force fills the air!
Voice: What about me?!
Kylo Ren: Mom!
Leia: Son! We need you. Rey needs you.
Kylo Ren: I’m sorry for everything. Rey. I messed up so bad with her and…
Leia: I know.
Kylo Ren: I miss him so much.
Leia: I miss him too.
Luke: He’s here with me.
Kylo Ren: I know what I have to do, but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it!
Luke places his hand on Ben’s shoulder.
Luke/Leia(unison): You do!
Kylo: What now?
Luke: You must destroy the mask of Darth Vader! When I crossed over, your grandfather was not here. He’s trapped somewhere in between. Do you remember that story I told you about Lord Momin?
Leia: I think I’ll go now. I was never interested in that mumbo-jumbo. Listen to your Uncle. I love you Ben.
Kylo Ren: I love you!
Luke: Darth Sidious tethered Anakin’s soul to that helmet, so that he couldn’t become one with the cosmic force. There can never be balance as long as it exists! Then there’s the matter of Pasaana…
Suddenly, Kylo and Rey are returned to their original surroundings.
INT MUSTAFAR VADER’S CASTLE UNDERGROUND HANGAR
Kylo Ren is pushed to the side by the marching army of the dead. They board vast numbers of Tie-Daggers and Troop Transports. The ceiling of the underground base is opened up and the army begins to fly off into space.
Kylo Ren: What just happened?!
He senses that Rey is upset. He sees Snoke’s ring. He hears a voice behind him.
Snoke: Kylo Ren…my greatest disappointment!
He turns to see the smokey silhouette of his former master. Ben ignites his lightsaber and destroys the evil trinket! The black smoke engulfs his face. He’s horribly disfigured.
INT AJAN KLOSS JUNGLE TEMPLE
Rey: What have I done?!
Luke: Your connection to my nephew is very curious!
Rey quickly changes the subject.
Rey: I am not a Jedi Knight! I’m not ready!
Rey senses her friends are back. She looks to the sky and back to Luke, but he’s gone. Only the lightsaber remains. Rey races back to base.
EXT MUSTAFAR VADER’S CASTLE
Kylo Ren exits the castle. He runs and jumps onto a Tie-Dagger that’s emerging from the gaping hole in the ground. He pulls the Sith Trooper out of the cockpit and drops him into lava. A bright green apparition emerges from the burning armored corpse and enters one of the fallen Alazmec. The resurrected colonist shakes his fist at Kylo Ren! The Night Buzzard rises from it’s hiding place and the Knights of Ren follow their former leader into hyperspace!
EXT AJAN KLOSS RESISTANCE BASE
Rey looks up as a Star Destroyer slowly ascends from the sky and positions itself above her. The Tie Echelon flies from the docking bay and lands near the Resistance base.
Finn and the others exit.
Rey: You made it!
Finn: Hey! We need to talk.
Rey: About…?
Poe: Finn, Leia wants to see us.
Finn: I guess it’ll have to wait!
INT RESISTANCE BASE WAR ROOM
Rey hugs her friend Rose.
Rey: Glad you’re back!
Rose sees that something is bothering Rey.
Rose: What is it?
Rey: I saw him again Rose!
Rose: Ben?
Rey: I thought he’d eventually come around, especially after that stunt he pulled on Chandrila!
Rose: Finn and Chewie saw him too! Things were tense the whole trip back. Listen, don’t give up on him.
Rey: There’s something else. I’m not the Jedi I should be!
Rose: It’s probably just stress. We’ve all been through alot since Crait.
Rey: Thanks Rose. You’ve been a real friend to me!
Lieutenant Connix joins them.
Lt. Connix: I heard about the ship!
Rose: Men!
All three laugh.
Leia, Poe, and Finn enter the war room. Everyone gathers around.
Leia: General Dameron!
Poe: As you all probably know by now, there’s been a shake-up in the FO. Thanks to Zorii, Operation Bliss was a success! We have a Star Destroyer!
The room explodes with applause!
Poe: Commander!
Finn looks over at his new allies from the FO.
Finn: We were once part of the FO. They took us away from our families. There’s countless others like us that would join the Resistance if we show them the way!
Finn pushes a button on the console. A hologram of a planet projects above the crowd.
Finn: This is Vorpaal-9. A place that all Stormtroopers have been made to fear since we were little. It’s where they send you to die if you resist them. They deserve freedom just as much as we do. Now is the time. We are planning a prison break.
Poe: Finn, Zorii, myself, and any other volunteers will be doing recon to gather intel. If we can steal their weapons and army, maybe we can pull off a miracle!
Rey: Leia, may I speak with you?
EXT RESISTANCE BASE WAR ROOM
Rey: I…
Leia: Tell me.
Rey: I saw…Ben…and Snoke.
Leia: Snoke?!
Rey: Yes. There’s a new army of Stormtroopers…Darth Vader’s army.
Leia: I see my father’s past is rearing it’s ugly head again. Well it’s a good thing I made peace with Anakin a long time ago.
Rey: The dark side is too strong. It surrounds everything…even me!
Leia: Rey, we all have darkness inside us, but you’re strong…like my mother Padme. Trust in the force.
Rey: I can’t go with the others. Luke...
Leia puts a calming hand on Rey.
Leia: Go to Pasaana. I have a friend there who can help you.
Rey: How did you know about Pasaana?!
Leia: Ask me again sometime.
Leia smiles and hugs Rey tight.
Rey: There’s so much I want to tell you.
Leia: Tell me when you get back.
INT ALBREKH’S WORKSHOP
Kylo Ren watches the Symeong repair his damaged helmet. He feels his mother and Rey embrace through the force.
EXT SPACE
Kylo journeys to Pasaana! The Knights of Ren follow close behind him.
EXT AJAN KLOSS RESISTANCE BASE
Rose: Did you talk to her?
Finn: Not yet…
Rose: Stop putting it off! You’ve been studying those Jedi books behind her back!
Finn: She wouldn’t care, besides, 3PO probably already told her with that big mouth of his.
Rose: Finn!
Finn: Yeah?
Rose: I’m worried about her.
Finn: I got this! Speaking of secrets. Rose…did you know about Kylo Ren?
Rose is silent.
Finn: I’m not mad…
Rose: Good! It just would’ve been weird ya know.
Finn: Yeah. I guess that’s why Rey didn’t say anything.
EXT MILLENIUM FALCON
Poe: So, Leia tells me your not going with us. Something about Kylo Ren and an army and this is real Jedi stuff huh?!
Rey: I know you need me…
Poe: Zorii is gonna handle things on Vorpaal-9. If you’re going to Pasaana…
Rose: Then we’re going with you.
Rey looks at Finn.
Rey: I need to go alone.
Finn: Yeah. Alone with friends.

The Star Wars universe has two distinct philosophies that have been created around the force. While others exist, the Jedi and the Sith are the most prominently featured. Of course, the Sith worship the darkness of the force and thrive on pain and misery.
RELATED: Star Wars: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Sith Mythology
There are a number of objects and artifacts that hold great power in Sith mythology. They can often boost a users abilities, connect someone to the past, or increase the darkness within. These artifacts are scattered across the galaxy and can be great tools for those looking to restore the Sith to their former glory. These are featured in the movies, books, comics, TV shows, video games, and beyond.
10 Darth Vader's Mask
Darth Vader's mask has been consistently featured throughout the Star Wars franchise as a symbol of darkness and great power. Worn by Anakin Skywalker during his time as a dark side apprentice, it would eventually pass on to his grandson, Kylo Ren.
The burnt husk of a helmet inspired the young warrior and allowed him to feel the darkness that once coursed through Vader's veins. Its destruction meant that the darkness disappeared, but, for a time, it was one of the most significant Sith artifacts out there.
9 Sith Holocron
The Sith Holocrons often operate much like a Jedi one, but it has been deeply corrupted. The basic idea of a Holocron is that they are objects which can stand the test of time and hold information that is so secretive it has been locked away.
The Jedi, for instance, have had Holocron's which contained the names of potential Padawans or the locations of lost Jedi. The Sith have a series of much darker versions, which may hold the key to reviving the ancient order and bringing chaos to the galaxy.
8 Exim Panshard's Mask
The viceroy known as Exim Panshard was an ancient Sith who had his own mask created out of a cruel metal. The material was able to hold in the dark side and was said to influence anyone who wore it. It could corrupt even the purest of hearts.
RELATED: Star Wars: 10 Sith Who Would Have Made Excellent Jedi
The mask itself also held in it the screams of the victims of the wielder. It's a sinister affair and one that the Acolytes of the Sith got their hands on. The Aftermath trilogy depicts what happens when someone uses such a deadly mask, with the wearer actually murdering those close to them.
7 The Lightsabers Of Darth Atrius
Darth Atrius was another reviled Sith Lord who had two iconic crossguard lightsabers which dealt great damage during his lifetime. After he died, they went on to become yet another symbol of how dastardly the Sith could really be.
Sana Starros would eventually recover them and sell them, with Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader ultimately destroying them. They were a source of real power, and, much like any lightsaber, they could do genuine damage without the extra evil coursing through the blade.
6 Sith Scrolls
The Jedi and the Sith both have a series of scrolls and texts which hold a lot of knowledge. For the Sith, these scrolls have been passed down through generations. They hold many great Sith teachings including that of the rule of two.
They even hold the key to various tricks that could be seen as sorcery and were used throughout the Clone Wars to get the upper hand on the Jedi Order. Lords like Count Dooku and Palpatine both utilized these artifacts in order to expand their knowledge of their order.
5 Sith Chalice
A Sith Chalice has a strange effect of manipulation when it is used to burn incense in. Palpatine actually possessed one as Chancellor and displayed it on full view. However, because of his title and role, no one ever questioned what the Chalice did.
RELATED: Star Wars: 10 Forgotten Sith Lords Who Could Play A Role In Disney's Upcoming Projects
This object is of great influence to those who smell what it's actually burning, though. The Sith Lord originally retrieved it from the planet known as Malachor, and it likely has a long and dark history dating back to the earlier days of the order.
4 Lord Momin's Mask
Once again a mask has been the site of some of the strongest levels of darkness in the galaxy. Lord Momin was a sinister figure and his mask was an artifact of great interest to Palpatine, who held it during the Clone Wars. This was, of course, after it was broken out of the Jedi vaults.
Palpatine went to great lengths to retrieve the horrible mask but would later gift it to Darth Vader, demonstrating its huge power levels. It seems as if the artifact was destroyed when Lando Calrissian exploded the ship is was being kept on.
3 Great Crystal Of Aantonaii
Not much is known about this Crystal, but Palpatine did hunt it down, so it must be of some significance. Once again, he held it throughout the Clone Wars and likely had it hidden afterward in his personal collection. During his time as Chancellor, though, he kept it close to him.
Unlike the Chalice, the Jedi would have known what this Crystal was, and it was therefore to be kept a secret. It has an energy and aura that few other artifacts contain; it could potentially power a ship or perhaps be the key to unlocking a great Sith secret.
2 Sith Wayfinder
The Sith Wayfinder is very similar to that of a Holocron considering it holds important information, though the difference is that it can set a path for a ship to follow. It quite literally finds the way to an important location the user is searching for.
Notably, one Sith Wayfinder helped the Sith find the planet Exegol. A number of Sith have owned this and various other Wayfinders over the years, but, as demonstrated by the trip to the unknown regions, these objects are very useful in guiding its user through any area that is unmapped.
1 Sith Books
While the Sith Scrolls are of great importance, there's also a number of other Sith texts that can be found in the personal collections of many Sith Lords. Indeed, some of the greats of the Order have also written their own texts which help to fill some gaps of the mythology.
The Jedi have their own set of books which open up a great deal of knowledge to them, but, unlike the scrolls, these books can even hold darkness themselves. A light side or grey user could certainly be tempted by the darkness just from reading one of these.

Star Wars 9 Theory: Dark Rey IS Palpatine | Screen Rant
A trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker unveiled a dark side version of Rey - and she could actually be possessed by Palpatine. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's writer and director J.J. Abrams is well known for his so-called "Mystery Box" approach to marketing. Under Abrams' watch, each trailer is carefully designed to raise more questions than answers, to stir up debate among fans, and to leave viewers eager to see the mysteries resolved when the film finally comes out.
At this stage, the trailers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker have raised two major questions. The first trailer confirmed that Emperor Palpatine is set to return; it's unclear whether he's survived death or is in fact a Force spirit of some kind, and there have been few hints about his role. The second trailer ended with a haunting shot of a dark side version of Rey, wielding a crackling red double-bladed lightsaber. Was it a Force vision, akin to Luke's experience in the Dagobah cave in The Empire Strikes Back, or will Rey turn to the dark side?
Related: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker D23 Trailer Breakdown: 18 Story Reveals & Secrets
On the face of it, these are two separate mysteries. But they could be tied together - because dark side Rey could really be the first glimpse of Palpatine returning to the fold, and in the flesh.
Star Wars canon has always been clear that Sith can somehow survive death - but not in the same "Force Ghost" sense as the Jedi. In order to become a Force Ghost, a light side adherent has to submit to the will of the Force, right down to accepting their death; dark siders are driven by an egotistical desire to impose their own will upon the Force, which means they're naturally unable to become Force Ghosts. Matt Stover's novelization of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith made this explicit. Stover worked closely with George Lucas himself on the script, and was given permission to amplify many of the scenes. As a result, he extended the conversation between Qui-Gon's Force Ghost and Master Yoda to include a longer discussion of immortality. "The ultimate goal of the Sith, yet they can never achieve it," Qui-Gon explained. "It comes only by the release of self, not the exaltation of self. It comes through compassion, not greed. Love is the answer to the darkness."
There is, however, one canon way that a Sith spirit can endure after death. A Sith can transfer their very essence into some physical relic, or can bind itself to the geographical place where they died and essentially "haunt" it. Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 6 included arcs in which Sith spirits were seen inhabiting a specific site, while Charles Soule's recent Darth Vader comic introduced Lord Momin, a Sith heretic whose spirit had inhabited a mask. This power is referred to as an "Essence Transfer", and it's important to note that Palpatine probably knew it; he'd possessed Lord Momin's mask for years before he loaned it to Darth Vader.
It's quite possible that Palpatine survived death by using the Essence Transfer ability. Indeed, that would explain why Lucasfilm has so far avoided showing any footage of the Emperor at all; the only image so far as is a Star Wars 9 poster released at D23, and the cartoonish artwork has made many suspect the Emperor lacks a physical form. As noted, J.J. Abrams is secretive, and his reluctance to show the Emperor may mean that he's holding this revelation back for later in the marketing campaign - if not for the film itself.
Related: Why Does Star Wars 9’s Emperor Palpatine Look Like A Cartoon?
Lucasfilm dropped the first hints of Palpatine's eventual return back in 2017, in the novel Aftermath: Empire's End. Written by Chuck Wendig, this book explained the Empire's defeat at Jakku, and revealed that the last survivors fled to the Unknown Regions, where they presumably formed the First Order. It featured a Sith cultist called Yupe Tashu, who had served under Palpatine and was convinced his Master had somehow survived death. "Palpatine lives on," he insisted. Another aide - who didn't actually believe it, but was trying to placate Tashu - made a fascinating comment. "The mantle of the dark side is yours to wear, at least for a time," he told Tashu. "At least until we can find Palpatine and revivify him, bringing his soul back to flesh anew."
Back in 2017, readers assumed that Yupe Tashu was simply insane. Palpatine's impending return changes that, turning this into a fascinating and important clue. Tashu seemed to believe that Palpatine's spirit had been transferred to a relic or geographical place, and that his servants had to find him and bring a potential host to him. Charles Soule's Darth Vader run confirmed that a Sith spirit can possess anyone who comes into contact with the relic that it resides in; in that case, anyone who saw Lord Momin's mask was tempted to put it on, and doing so left them under the Emperor's thrall. That would fit with the idea of "bringing [the Emperor's] soul back to flesh anew."
Related: Star Wars Canon Already Explained How The Emperor Survived Return Of The Jedi
That naturally raises the question of just who Palpatine would consider to be a worthy host. The latest Star Wars trailer ended with a mysterious glimpse of a dark side version of Rey, wielding a crackling red double-bladed lightsaber. There was something strange about Rey in this shot; her body was held unnaturally straight, and her facial expression was fixed in a glare. All this seems particularly odd given that Star Wars: The Last Jedi ended with Rey seeming to commit to the Jedi and the light side of the Force. Perhaps the explanation is that Rey has been possessed by Palpatine. It's already been confirmed that Rey and Kylo Ren will both head to the wreckage of the Second Death Star, the place where the Emperor died. If his spirit is haunting that location, then he could possess her; if he has contained his essence within a relic, then Rey could stumble upon it.
A close look at that shot reveals that dark side Rey is wearing a mysterious ring with a black stone upon it. It's possible that is the relic the Emperor placed his spirit within, and he has compelled Rey to wear it, taking control of her body. Interestingly, the original working title for Star Wars: Episode IX was "Black Diamond", which may well hint that this dark stone is important somehow. If Rey has indeed been possessed by Palpatine, then ironically her salvation could be Kylo Ren. She and Kylo Ren possess an intimate Force bond, created by Snoke but still be there even after his death. That bond would mean Palpatine has chosen a host who can potentially draw upon the Force power of another being, and so resist his influence more than anyone else. The Emperor may well have made a big mistake if he does possess Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

I think there are a few general Sith things to note, starting with the difference between individualism and selfishness. Sith ideology focuses heavily on the individual. With the Jedi there is little difference between the whole and each individual, to a Sith this is akin to a beehive where all are more or less the same. Drones whose nature is to disappear into the whole.
For the Sith there is a much more prevelant focus on the individual. If you’re a drone you might as well hand over your lightsaber, cut yourself off from the force, and become a slave. You’ll be of more use to the whole than as a Sith Lord. This ideology easily leads to selfishness and is easier to conflate as selfishness even when that is not the case.
Before an example of this let’s discuss how this relates to power, knowledge, and the effects this has on culture. It’s is commonly said that Knowledge is power, this is not true. Power, or the power of will, is power. Knowledge, wealth, strength, etc. can not replace this regardless of the quantity. But true power will grasp onto anything it can and with whatever resources are available can accomplish great things. Instead of being power itself these are tools useable by actual power to accomplish it’s ends.
Sith are very power centric, individual power and the support of it’s tools being an important aspect of this. There is, coupled with keeping an apprentice from becoming powerful enough to overcome the master, the idea that the tools of power should be gained individually. As in the case of Lord Momin’s helm. Contrary to a few assumptions noted here Sideous is providing Vader with greater knowledge, or more the path to it. It is Vader’s responsibility to gain the knowledge for himself, he must express the power of will to gain the tool and walk on the backs of previous Sith like Mamon, it is not for Sideous to just give it to him.
Knowledge is/was horded to extend the time before an apprentice was strong enough to overcome the master, there is selfishness in this but this was, in truth both to the apprentice’s advantage as well as not the only reason. This relates to what @thewillowbends mentioned of once you are the master many Sith feel they have nothing else to learn. A Sith who overcomes their master ends up generally stunted, typically using power of will the many tools the master has collected over time are lost. The apprentice looses access to them and a sliver of culture dies. These Sith are short sighted fools who do not deserve the title, a personal opinion.
It is hard to see, the conflict inherent to the dynamic obscuring it, but it is a symbiotic relationship. The master wanes in power but extends the reach of their tools. The apprentice grows in power and, if they are worth the title, learn to annex their master’s tools as well as how to grow more. As Bane taught in the rule of two an apprentice is that which grows beyond us propelling the Sith goal, culture, and legacy forward.
On that note let us examine the aforementioned Rule of Two. Darth Bane, after creating the rule of two, heavily warned against this ultimate hoarding of knowledge. He knew that it was necessary to the dynamic of Sith master/apprentice, but was ultimately bad for future Sith in a single line format. He actively urged master’s to share the paths to knowledge and other tools at a higher rate while working to maintain the balance of master overcome by apprentice.
With Darth Sideous the rule of two was fulfilled, making it a piece of Sith culture that serves more minor purposes.
As for Vader, Palpatine, and Mustafar: it is not because no Padme means Vader would better chained to Palpatine but because either way Vader will become stronger for the experience. Vader was a disappointment to Palpatine, even if Palpatine did not believe he would never be replaced Vader would not be the one to do it. His failure on Mustefar damaged him severely, and more than physically. He was still strong but he would never be what he was let alone what he could be. Unlike Dooku, Vader had been intended to be more than simply an enforcer tool, an apprentice worth replacing Sidious should he actually fall. But with Vader’s fall that was all gone, and so an enforcer tool is what Vader became. Thus the many faux-apprentices constantly pushing Vader to prove he deserved the position.
Sideous still treated him as a proper apprentice in many ways, such as putting him on the path to knowledge. As both an apprentice and a tool what strengthens Vader strengthens Sideous. This is something that remains true for Jedi as well. Though it must be said they rarely intentionally recognize this, let alone take advantage of it. Resulting in not pushing their apprentice to be all they could be but instead what the master thinks they should be.
I do have to say that, despite some vaguely biased and ignorant of Sith culture comments, the Sith do not intentionally destroy their own culture. Hoarding of the tools of power by master’s too often does lead to loss, and parts of culture that no longer serve a purpose are removed more often than Jedi. But that in-itself is part of our culture, as is the path to regaining those tools. These tools are not meant to just be handed down, if you want to walk on the backs of those before you as an individual must earn it.
As long as there are those who realize that there is no good or bad, just power and those too weak to seek it, our culture will live. You may not understand it, you may mock it or shame it from this place of ignorance, but it is ours. It has won us the galaxy before and nearly destroyed the Jedi. From a handful of exiles labeled heretics by the Jedi we have climbed from the pit of nothingness again and again. Sometimes we are pushed back but each time we climb higher than before and (if not for writers, good guys have to win, and the unrealistic obsession with the ‘light of hope no matter how dark’) eventually we will ultimately be victorious.
(Our of character: ‘you’ is meant as the Royal you with no one in mind or intent to target anybody. This section is written from the perspective of a post Galactic Empire Sith OC, I’m new to such RP and am still getting used to it. Thank you)

So shouldn't there be a location or a storage area or something that has a bunch of old Jedi things. Not like the relics that the Hutts have or the one's sold on the black market and stuff. I mean there was a comic where Clone troopers were complaining that all they did now was archive Jedi relics and make sure it's all categorized properly, because they were being replaced by human stormtroopers. So shouldn't there be a planet or castle that no one knows about but Vader and the Emperor?
Here’s what we’ve seen of the various caches of Jedi Things:➥ The major collection was at the Jedi Temple itself, where Sidious took over and eventually got into most of the things there. Jocasta Nu managed to delete the digital archives (which the main goal was deleting the list of Force-sensitive children’s names, so Sidious couldn’t get them) which may have also contained a listing of other places that the Jedi stored things, that’s not really addressed. We know they do have them, like Brighthome that you mentioned, so it seems like a reasonable assumption that there would be other Jedi caches out there, on hidden worlds. I mean, if nothing else, that’s what Luke seems to have found on Ahch-To!What we see of the Jedi Temple:
We know this is where Darth Momin’s mask was, which was an incredibly dangerous artifact and was under heavy security, all the things here were likely found by Sidious and either used by him or destroyed. It’s probably also safe to assume this (from Doctor Aphra) is the Jedi Temple, where Vader retrieves the Immortal Rur crystal shard and brings it to Emperor Palpatine, who says, ehhh, put it with the collection:
It looks like Sidious has a pretty big collection (and various novels and comics) have shown that the Empire suppressed all Force-based talk and religions, that anything that talked about them “disappeared” and it’s implied that anything with any real power would have been snatched up by the Emperor. So, depending on what happened with the “Imperial Palace” (aka the former Jedi Temple) after the Empire fell, a lot of that stuff might have been recovered. I know in Shattered Empire Luke at least manages to find two cuttings of the ancient Jedi Tree from the Temple in an Imperial lab and rescues them.
We don’t really know what happened to the Jedi Temple or the artifacts post-ROTJ, if they’re all still there or if they were destroyed. Either is possible–given that Palpatine’s Operation: Cinder was set to destroy Imperial worlds if he died (if the Empire wasn’t strong enough to support its Empire, it deserved to be burnt to the ground, also, if he couldn’t have the Empire, he wanted it all dead, he wasn’t going to share), it makes sense that he may have had a similar plan for the Temple.Given that Luke was desperately searching for any traces of the Force and the Jedi even post-Return of the Jedi, it’s probably a fairly safe bet. (He’s still seeking everything he can in Legends of Luke Skywalker.)➥ As you mentioned, there were other places the Jedi stored things, like they had an outpost named Brighthome that we see in the Dark Lord of the Sith comic, where the clone troopers are going through the artifacts and mucking around with all of it
We don’t know if this was set up for the war or if this was a long-term storage facility or what. But there wasn’t a super ton of valuable stuff here, Vader only goes to get a list of Jedi who took the Barash Vow, so he can go fight one to steal the crystal, because apparently it doesn’t ~count unless he actually kills a Jedi for it.➥ The Emperor had other storage places, we know he was storing a bunch of stuff on Jakku in that observatory of his, as well as there were items on Pillio in the other observatory there that Luke and Del Meeko go see. This is where Luke finds the compass that we later see in the visual dictionary for The Last Jedi.
He also had other non-Jedi storage places, like the one on onboard his personal ship the Impirialis, which had a bunch of Naboo artifacts and a bunch of Sith artifacts, enough that they were physically corrupting the Red Guards that stationed to watch over them.
This is where Darth Momin’s stuff seemed to eventually end up after the events of Dark Lord of the Sith, where Lando and Korin (who recognizes this stuff as Momin’s work and says it’s all Sith stuff). Whether there’s Jedi stuff here or not isn’t said, but it could go either way.➥ There were, as you mentioned, personal collections, like Grakkus’ horde of Jedi artifacts that he tries to make Luke open, because he can’t do it himself:
Eventually this one is found by Darth Vader and it’s unclear if he destroys it all or takes it back to Emperor Palpatine (my guess would be the latter, but it’s Anakin, you never know with that guy), but there are probably other caches out there, even if Grakkus was probably the most famous collector.➥ There was at least one cache left behind by Jocasta Nu, before she died, which we see that Luke eventually found (presumably somewhere between ANH and ESB, since he’s wearing his yellow jacket, but we have no idea how much he was able to glean from the holocrons there or what happened to them):
It’s possible that others managed to do the same thing–we saw many Jedi were able to make at least some holocrons as they were pleading for their deaths to not be in vain, but we don’t know how much time any of them had to really explain much of anything.➥ Kanan has his holocron that originally belonged to Depa Billaba, that she gave him to practice with shortly before her death during Order 66, which contained at least some Jedi training instructions, we see the hologram of Anakin instructing lightsaber form IV when Ezra talks with Ahsoka.
I’m probably missing some (I can’t remember if Luke found anything in The Weapon of a Jedi or not) but it’s entirely possible that there would be more locations that only Vader and the Emperor know of, especially since they moved things around, so even if Obi-Wan (as a member of the High Council) might have known where they originally were with the Jedi, they may not have been there anymore or they may have just been in records that were long destroyed. There are other Jedi Temples out there, there are lots of collectors who’ve snatched things up, there are probably other places the Emperor stashed things (like his observatories, who knows how many he had), but we don’t really know how many of them Luke ever found. It seems like he must have found a fair amount, given how much he’d learned (even if he’d managed to figure out a bunch on his own, too), but so, so much was lost and so, so much depends on who needs a Jedi Thing to be a plot point when it comes up for their story! XD

Best of Marvel: Week of December 19th, 2018
Best of this Week: Darth Vader #25 - Charles Soule, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cam Smith, Daniele Orlandini, David Curiel, Dono Sanchez-Almara and Erick Arciniega
Everyone remembers the claim that The Emperor made to a young Anakin Skywalker, “He [Plagueis] had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.” This helped to turn Anakin even further to the dark side as he wanted to save the life of his wife, Padme.
This last arc of the Darth Vader series has been about Vader utilizing the powerful Dark Side energy of the planet Mustafar in an attempt to resurrect the spirit of his dead wife. He finds a sith artifact known as the Mask of Momin and constructs a castle that could open a doorway into some kind of Dark Side realm. The mask retained some sort of spiritual essence of Momin who took many hosts to help Vader make the gateway before betraying Vader, trying to kill him for what he saw as an abuse of the Dark Side for petty reasons. Vader kills him and enters the gateway himself. Vader kills him and enters the gateway himself.
This issue starts with the spirit of Vader leaving his body and going on a journey through his own history. From childhood before Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan came to find him, to his partnership with Ahsoka Tano and finally to when he began killing Jedi. He finally gets to the “spirit” of Padme and discovers that there is truly no happiness meant for those that follow the dark path and that it will always end in death as he is engulfed in blue light coming from a silhouetted figure with a lightsaber. Vader wakes, spirit likely returning to his body, and destroys most of the castle, having resigned himself to his destiny.
This was a great end for the Darth Vader series and I certainly hope that the five-issue Dark Visions series lives up to the quality that Charles Soule, Camuncoli and the other artists on this book have set the bar to. High recommend!
As always, the art stole the issue. The decision to have Vader appear as a figure composed of red and black swirls with no features except for orange slits for eyes, his missing limbs appearing white and his lightsabers appearing as black with a red glow around them was fantastic. His appearance set against the roaring fires of the Dark Side realm, made him stand out more and the backgrounds felt vast and ominous.
The fight scene that takes place towards the end was pretty awesome as well; Vader having to contend with all of the Jedi blood that he has spilled and not hesitating to do it again was amazing. Every kill felt heavier and heavier knowing that it only further pushed him towards darkness, especially as lines from The Last Jedi appeared every other panel, telling Vader to “let the past die - Kill it if you have to.” And while I have a less than favorable opinion of what it’s used for in the movie, it’s worth it here as this what Vader has been working towards since the Jedi were in his way.

Runner Up: Marvel Knights #4 - Vita Ayala, Donny Cates, Joshua Cassara and Matt Milla
Black Panther was one of the first Marvel Knights series and one of the most successful runs of the character. It brought the Panther back from obscurity and kept him in the minds of fans for years to come, some of it serving as the basis for parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Everett Ross and Killmonger’s personality. Christopher Priest and Mark Texeira elevated Black Panther and it’s nice to be reminded of that.
Not only does the issue feel like the old Marvel Knights Panther, it also pulls from the Black Panther: Man Without Fear arc, taking T’Challa out of Wakanda and into the Urban streets of New York.
The issue begins with Black Panther and Reed Richards discussing the device that made people forget about the existence of The Sentry and how it would be best hidden in Wakanda, but before T’Challa can drive away with the device with the Dora Milaje, his car is hit by a truck with Fisk written on its side. T’Challa then wakes up from the flashback, having lost his memory and spends the rest of the issue thinking about the man he was in the past, not being able to identify who he is.
He helps a number of people throughout the issue, stopping a young black kid from being accosted by the police (Likely Miles Morales as indicated by the spiderweb decal on his backpack); feeding people at a shelter - indicated as Marc, who claims to hear a voice telling him to stop someone, Captain Rogers, who wears a ball cap with a certain logo on it and a blue shirt with a white star and Sam who quips about birds listening to him when he talks. He later stops a man from assaulting a punk who cat called his sister and this ends with T’Challa getting arrested by the police after he defends the man by fighting the police.
I liked this aspect of the book with T’Challa defending people against the law that would destroy them and being helpful to the community that accepted him. Even better when he’s offered a deal by a black lawyer by the name of Ben Donovan, Marvel Netflix fans rejoice, and Donovan reveals himself to be a lawyer for PROFIT, claiming that no one that T’Challa knows could afford his help. This awakens his memories in pieces and he goes out to dispense justice to Donovan in mock up Panther gear only to see the real Supervillain plans unfolding. It was pretty good and worth checking out the rest of the event for.

There may only be a handful of true Sith Lords in the Star Wars universe, but the comics have just made history by adding one more. Fans, it’s time to meet Lady Shaa - the first FEMALE Sith Master in the new Star Wars canon.
The Sith Master makes her debut in Darth Vader #22, the much anticipated story that started by bringing Vader face-to-face with the spirit of Sith Lord Momin, added to the Star Wars movie canon just as recently. While alluded to in the past as a long-dead artist strong in the Dark Side, Lord Momin’s true role was even grander, helping Darth Vader build his castle to resurrect Padmé. But before Vader let Momin take the lead, he needed to hear his story.
The story of how Momin grew from a terrifying artist to a Lord of the Sith… and the Lady of the Sith who chose him as her apprentice. Needless to say, SPOILERS.

As older Star Wars fans already know, there were plenty of women strong in the Dark Side of the Force, even considered Sith and bearing the title “Darth” in the expanded universe. Darth Traya, Darth Zannah, Darth Cognus, Darth Talon… the list goes on and on. But when Disney made only the movies and shows canonical, those stories became merely “legends,” cutting the list of official Sith down in size.

For reference, these are the only named Sith Lords– well, these were, before the tale of Shaa was told:
Darth Atrius
Darth Bane
Darth Plagueius
Darth Sidious
Darth Maul
Darth Tyranus
Darth Vader
Of those seven, only the recently added Darth Atrius came from the comics, with the rest referred to by name in Star Wars films and TV series. But a single issue of Darth Vader has just added two names to the list, including its first woman to seemingly honor Darth Bane’s “Rule of Two.” And since it’s her apprentice telling the story in Darth Vader #22, we had better let him do the talking.
Lord Momin, Master Shaa’s Last Apprentice
As readers can glean from the images above, it was Shaa who first heard whispers of the boy named Momin, using an apparent link to the Dark Side of The Force to turn living things into grotesque “works of art” (presumably making them into not-so-living things in the process). That predilection to evil clearly caught Shaa’s ear, and she tracked him down before breaking him out of prison. As Momin explains, “The Lady Shaa” soon explained that she was taking Momin as her apprentice, to be trained by her as a master in The Force and the ways in which its Dark Side could be wielded.
For Momin, his understanding led to not just the creation of his own pair of lightsabers to match his master’s, but a helmet which would be his new face as a practitioner of the Dark Side. To Momin, it was an evolution of his worship of artistic pursuits. And to prove he was one sick puppy, Momin mutilated his face with his own lightsabers before donning the helmet - all to the pleasure of Master Shaa. Unfortunately for her, Momin wasn’t too interested in the titles or goals of the Sith, or the label of “apprentice” or “student.”
