I’ve been reading through Darth Momin’s Wookiepedia entry recently and he is fascinating. Momin is considered a “Sith heretic” which, conceptually, is just…… how bad/weird/annoying do you have to be for the SITH, the biggest annoying asshole whiners in the galaxy, to look at you and think, “Yeah I’mma need this bitch OUTTA HERE ASAP”???

The answer is: pretty goddamn annoying. But I’ll get to that in a second.

His “heresy” is believing that the Sith do not control the Dark Side; the dark side controls them. They exist solely to serve it, to please it through their works and actions. He does not believe in the wanton destruction of his peers; he believes in creation. Adding to the world instead of taking it apart. Unfortunately his idea of “adding to the world” is shit like “use the Force to lock an entire city in the second before it’s utter annihilation, thus creating an endless source of pain and fear and terror to fuel my Evil Engine so I can get a good grade in Being Loved By the Dark Side, which is both normal and something possible to achieve.”

And then he fucking FAILS at it because some pesky little Jedi get onto his engine and the mere presence of light side energy distracts him so much that he EXPLODES HIMSELF. this guy sucks so fucking bad it’s unreal. I’m obsessed.

Momin thinks the Sith obsession with Jedi is stupid and irrelevant to their purpose, which is to honor the Dark Side and execute its will across the Galaxy. This school of thought appears to be unique to him, since it is considered antithetical to everything mainstream Sith believe, and it dies with him, because they ensure his name is not recorded in any Sith or Jedi holocron; his legacy is all but eradicated. This is 1) hilarious, but also 2) indicative of the accusation he levels against the Sith: they are so focused on hoarding and hiding knowledge that they undermine themselves and the efforts of their entire group, when they could be serving one goal — honoring the Dark Side — and rebuilding the galaxy in its image. This guy is technically the eclectic fringe hippie guy of the Sith, and he’s like. An art / architecture / engineering triple major with a minor in being fucking creepy.

And the reason he is LIKE this is because he got one (1) bad art review on his first sculpture — which was totally understandable considering he made said sculpture out of the family pet. And Momin decides, fuck it if y’all don’t like my work then I don’t like YOU. Also DIE.

His art (and therefore life) philosophy becomes obsessed with pain and fear. To him they are the only true emotions, the only ones that define our nature, the only emotions that matter. Sure dude. I’m sure that has nothing to do with everyone hating your art and being freaked out by you. You totally didn’t create an entire artistic vision that claims how people receive YOUR work is universal and the only purpose of art, because there is no way your art isn’t just awful and bad and nauseating. Noooo, that’s what art is supposed to be!

He also thinks Vader is a bitch, which is hilarious, because seconds after this Vader smears him across the floor.

If this guy was a doughnut, the outside dough would be Art/Stem Boy Who Tells You You Like Art Wrong and his inside would be Hannibal + Villanelle jelly.

He may as well have said “This is my design.”

Oh, and on top of being a brilliant dingus, this guy somehow conjured a door to the dark side itself, pulled his original body from it and transfered his consciousness to it (implying that he has technically unlocked the key to immortality that the Sith have been banging on about for eons), is strong enough in the dark side that a fragment of his soul can survive inside a stupid little helmet long after he’s dead, doesn’t believe in the Master-Apprentice dynamic, is a perfect plot vehicle for any time travel fic because if any bitch has found a way to the World Between Worlds it’s this guy and he WILL be making it your problem, and is somehow both one of the most unique and most exhausting Sith —

All while looking like a rejected Keebler elf.

I’m obsessed.

I didn't. I'm kind of uninterested in any lore outside of the man series atm (unless it's written by Claudia Gray lol). Basically, felt a little bit shit on for loving what they were doing with the SW canon pre and post TLJ, only for it to basically be completely ignored post tros.

I do vaguely remember seeing this one come up on the TL (probably because it features young Ben Solo and Rey with her parents, s/o to the comics for finally giving her mom a name, good job guys), and discussing it when it came out. Also vaguely reminds me of one of the arcs in the comics where the same sort of thing happens? (Vader discovers a Sith mask (Lord Momin's) and it tries to influence him??? it's been a while). I always really liked the idea of transference (or transferring a being's essence, I guess) as a plot device.

Also, deeply. DEEPLY uninterested in Ochi lol. Just very resentful (still) of how shoddy everything was in tros (to me), and how the canon is working (still) to try to make sense of that quagmire. I mean, what else can they do, I guess. Still pretty hurt by how spitefully and carelessly they threw it all away in their attempt to negate any of the meaning of tlj. Anyway LOL.

Hope that answers your question! Sorry if I sound cranky, it's not directed at you at all. I love talking about sw and i don't mind the qustion at all, but it's a pretty mixed bag for me these days because anything I did enjoy is so tied to what came afterwards and those feelings of being made to feel stupid for caring as much as it did.

Also, fuck bob iger for good measure. I KNOW he's at the root of lots of my problems with modern media and I wish he'd fucking RETIRE or fuck off to billionaire island and stop trying to create the world in his own image or whatever the fuck it is these assholes seem to be doing these days (also not directed at you, i just gotta get that off of my chest lol).

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 1): Problematic Characters from 2015

Aleksin/Pavol | Identity: mlm couple | Media: Lando comics

“Would you fuck your clone?” “I’m gay, so I’d totally fuck my clone.”

Aleskin and Pavol are a pair of very strange characters, who if it wasn’t for all the rest of the queer characters in Star Wars, would stand out as problematic. They’re two cat-man clones in a relationship with each other. Lando Clarrisian hires them to help him hijack Palpatine’s personal yacht the Imperialis. They planned to use the money from the job to buy another clone they could raise as their child. Further context for their existence has yet to be provided.

Aboard the Imperialis, Aleksin was corrupted by Darth Momin’s mask (of building Fortress Vader fame) and turned on his crew. In attempting to stop him, Pavol was likewise corrupted. They were killed by Lando and the bounty hunter Channath Cha while they escaped the Imperialis.

Moff Delian Moors | Identity: wlw | Media: Lords of the Sith

Moff Moors is technically the first queer character in the New EU, Lords of the Sith coming out a few months before Aftermath. But since she isn’t what you’d call representation, people prefer to forget about her.

In the early days of the Empire, Moors’ wife Murra was killed in a transport accident. Around the same time, she was given the governorship of Ryloth. Due to her grief, she neglected her duties and became a spice addict, spending her time on Ryloth’s largest moon surrounded by scantily clad female Twi’lek slaves.

Her poor leadership allowed the Free Ryloth Movement to almost assassinate Dath Vader and Emperor Palpatine. By managing to lead the crew that rescued the Sith Lords and killing the traitor that allowed this to occur, her life was spared. This event acted as a wake-up call forcing her back to competence and actually utilizing her skills.

Revanchist. Catastrophist. Vengeance. The names I claim are evocative of my truest nature. The Dark has called to me since I was a child, my only solace being from within the Void. My adversaries cower under my power, always on the losing end of dark will.

I was solely raised by the Lieutenant General with the New Republic’s Defense Fleet. Through his influence, my Force sensitivity was repressed until I became the soldier I was destined to be. But the Dark was always present. The voices from the Void cloud my mind with promises of salvation and a power unknown to this world for centuries.

The Dark is unrelenting in its desperation for a martyr, and I fear I'm helpless to its call.

This story is my life and passion: it's a tumultuous romance story between a female Dark side Force-sensitive user and Ben Solo/Kylo Ren that's the backdrop to a tale of loss and war, of fate and defying odds. The story touches on themes of graphic violence, has sexual content mentioned, and grief. Notable characters like Darth Revan and Darth Momin make their appearance as the characters loosely follow canon story and timelines.

The first seven chapters have already been posted on my AO3, but I will be cross-posting here! I'd love to hear feedback, if any - otherwise, keep an eye out for the prologue to be posted on here!

What do you think is the intended meaning of the moment when Vader sees a version of himself as a kid with his mask as his face when he enters Padme’s ship in the Fortress Vader comic arc?

Hmm, if I had to guess, it'd be that Vader - at this stage in his life - sees himself as "a bad apple from the start".

The thing to keep in mind is that there's layers to Darth Vader.

The first layer is one of rationalization. The lie, the thing he keeps telling himself.

"I'm the Chosen One. I have brought peace, freedom, justice and security to my new Empire. The Jedi turned against me, they're traitors to the Republic, I caught Windu trying to assassinate the Chancellor, they're evil! I am what Obi-Wan made me and he turned Padmé against me. I'm not Anakin Skywalker, he was weak and I destroyed him. I am what remains. I sacrificed so much in my quest for power and here I am: a Sith Lord. And one day, I'll be the master and everything will be mine."

But deep down... in a place Vader doesn't like to acknowledge even exists... Vader knows the truth. It's a layer of guilt.

"I'm a traitor. I slaughtered my brothers and sisters. Friggin' kids. I'm a monster. I once dreamed of freeing the slaves, now people are being enslaved by the very system I helped build. I committed countless atrocities. I am not Obi-Wan's failure, I did this to myself. I killed Padmé. She'd be ashamed of me. I'm all alone. And I deserve it, I deserve all the pain the universe has to offer."

And even deeper... there's this glimmer of good...

... but the guilt and the rationalization layers keep suppressing it, be it because Vader doesn't deserve the chance to be good, or because being good is being weak.

So we get to the vision of Anakin with Vader's mask as a face, in Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith #21.

So first off, I think there's clearly some Momin mask-induced Force hallucination/mind games afoot. Vader isn't wearing it, but we know that mask is somewhat "haunted".

That said, I think this particular hallucination draws from that guilt layer mentioned above.

Vader seeing the child with his face is that guilty side of him saying: "you were this monster from the get-go, from the very start you were twisted and evil, if only they'd known maybe they'd be alive."

And one hand... sure. That fear, that anger, that possessiveness was definitely there as early as TPM.

On the other hand... who doesn't feel fear, or anger? Who doesn't get attached to loved ones? Vader's subconscious makes a valid points but ultimately reaches the wrong conclusion.

George Lucas was very clear about this: Anakin started out as a sweet, kind boy. Not a demon child.

"[In the original trilogy the issues is] 'How do we get [Vader] back to that little boy that he was in the first movie, that good person who loved and was generous and kind? Who had a good heart.'" - TIME magazine, Cinema: Of Myth And Men, 1999

Fact is, though, that the fear, the anger, the attachments... they were left unchecked. So they festered, partially thanks to Palpatine's enabling, and eventually when the time came... they consumed him. As explained by Lucas multiple times.

The problem wasn't being afraid or being angry. It's that he never let any of it go.

i commissioned @thatsn0m00n to draw an upcoming scene in my "Darth Vader and Darth Momin time-travel to the prequels and make everything worse" fic!

“Sith,” the assassin spits, “You die here today.”

Momin is rusty with age and confinement, but as his spirit anchors into his old body, the flesh remembers. 

He moves without knowledge of it, completely surrendering himself to muscle memory and the Force. It feels like drowning, and he loves it, loves the choke and the burn, the way the Dark Side wrenches him open and bullies inside, loves the way she takes him without permission or mercy, like a hot tongue plunging into his throat. Invisible hands cruel with talons pull his body into form, and when the assassin’s blade screams toward his neck it is met with elegant apathy in Form III: Makashi.

As always, his Dark Lady has excellent taste.

“Someone will die today, yes,” Momin agrees amiably. A flick, a shift, and the assassin narrowly avoids his ‘saber introducing itself to their neck.    “But I assure you, it will not be me.”

“We are twenty,” the assassin circles. “You are alone. Stand down and your end will be merciful.”

This time Momin does laugh — and it sounds like scalpels kissing skin, shrieks and sighs, pleasure-drunk groans and guts splattering on a laboratory floor.

“Ignorant child,” Behind his helmet, Momin smiles wide enough for a stitch to pop, and he smears the metallic taste of himself across his own mouth with a soft sigh. The shattered kyber crystal in his pocket hums in approval.

“I serve the Force. I am never alone."
