Escape from Tombstone - Art Book Structure
Now that pretty much all of the art was finished it was time to start assembling the art-book to collect all of my hard work. I'm actually quite an avid collector of Art Books so this was a great opportunity for me to leaf through them again. You all have given great feedback on Darksiders Genesis. I personally still want to play the game for Switch regardless of some of the cons you’ve all stated. The top-down view isn’t what any of us expected, and I am more a fan of the view the other games are in, but I don’t quite mind how it looks, either. I’ve never played Diablo, but I’ve heard that it’s similar to that- correct me if I am wrong.
The art style gorgeous and Levilathans Landing? Yeah, I’ll rage, I can promise you that, but I’ll still DO IT BECAUSE I LIKE TO TORTURE MYSELF IN GAMES AAAAAA
I might even do a walk through on stream for you all so you can join my Suffering and Victories XD

Sort of a derail from Morseverse content.. Due to health things unrelated to the pandemic, I’ve been dealing with some home quarantines of family members for about two months now. Remember to pop out and get some fresh air and sunlight every once in a while, even if it’s your front step or back door!
Also here’s what we have been marathoning (and our suggestions for marathons)... We’ve been ingesting a lot of DND but it’s such a good long run and fun source of content.
Podcasts
The Adventure Zone - McElroy’s play DND! I’m sure you have heard of it but it’s a great time to start.
Not Another DND Podcast - A boy scout, a hillbilly elf and a himbo raised by dwarves go on adventures.
Welcome to Night Vale - Have you never? Do you wanna? No time is better than now.
David Tennant Does a Podcast with... - Just listen to david tennant talk.
Trees a Crowd - A nature podcast by David Oakes (huge crush)
YouTube
Dimension 20: Fantasy High (season 2 ongoing) - DND Meets high schoolers. Super fun, amazing character development, love love love.
Dimension 20: Escape from the Bloodkeep - When the Dark Lord falls, what do his villainous generals do??? Be super wholesomely evil, tbh.
English Heritage - The Victorian Way - Cooking... Victorian Style!
Dropout.tv (College Humor)
More Dimension 20 seasons as well as game shows, sketch comedy, etc. This is a paid service but there’s a 7 day free trial so why not capitalize? Unsleeping City, which may be my fave D20 campaign, is up here.
TV
I don’t pay for cable or any of that so all of my TV is via services - Netflix, Amazon Prime, Britbox/Acorn/Masterpiece. BUT there are a couple reliable streaming sites I highly recommend, though you MUST have adblock software. newepisodes.co and tornado.to are the main ones.
Anyway soothing show suggestions that are very low stress (mostly mysteries but not all) -
Shakespeare & Hathaway
McDonald & Dodds
Midsomer Murders
Father Brown
Death In Paradise
Any of Robson Green’s travel/fishing shows.
Hairy Bikers cooking series
Lords & Ladles - Chefs cook in Irish manor houses in the original way they did historically, sourcing the ingredients from the grounds of the manor and learning history in the process!
VIDEO GAMES!!
This is a great time to play the games you haven’t touched. We’ve been playing-
Borderlands 3 (has 2 player local co-op!)
Darksiders: Genesis (also has 2 player co-op!)
Diablo 3 (has 2 player co-op)
Star Wars Fallen Order (the only well done, uncontroversial star wars story in years)
The Outer Worlds (Fallout meets Dragon Age meets Bioshock and honestly so fucking good and less complicated than all of them)
Assassins Creed: Odyssey (family feels and romance, open world, lots of DLC and you can play as a lady finally!)

Darksiders Genesis is a spin-off set before the events of the original Darksiders. It will center around Strife and War as they are given a new assignment: stop Lucifer, who wants to “grant power to master demons throughout Hell.
Genesis is a top-down action-RPG in the vein of Diablo, in which you'll dungeon-crawl your way to victory, killing monsters and collecting loot and will feature "intense combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, epic boss battles and serpent holes from heaven to hell."

Alpha and Omega
Though Darksiders Genesis was released in early December 2019 on PC storefronts, I was more of a mind to play the title on consoles. As such, it was not until Valentine’s Day 2020 that I purchased the game at my local JB Hi-Fi and installed it on my PlayStation 4. It would be a few weeks afterwards that I would be able to play it due to my obligation to travel to Taiwan with my mother and also due to the fact that I was wrapping up Yakuza 3. Since then, of course, the COVID-19 outbreak has spread across the entire world. My hopes in a previous post have been dashed and at time of writing, I fear that it will be a painful few months. Who even knows if I’ll even be able to venture out to purchase the Final Fantasy 7 Remake in a brick and mortar store. Or even the Last of Us Part 2.
Apologies for digressing but seeing South Korea, Iran and Italy swiftly go into quarantine lock-down procedures, as well as seeing the numbers in my own country rising, the whole COVID-19 situation has weighed a lot on my mind.
Back to Darksiders Genesis!
Having played through all previous three titles in the series, I was eager to see and play as Strife - the last of the Horsemen. Though this was not a sequel, I was eager to see where this spin-off/ prequel would go in terms of lore and laying out of backstory for the characters. Despite the difference of opinions in many of the early reviews, I was still eager to try my hand at it.
Just like the other games, the artwork reminded me strongly of a comic-book style, particularly in the cutscenes. Though these were predominantly still images, I still enjoyed the bold lines and powerful colours that were employed. This could be seen in the level design and the different locales. The palette swaps helped nail the atmosphere and give the overall clustered levels a theme.
As with the other games, the Horsemen are tasked with a seemingly impossible task by the Council to ensure the balance. In Darksiders Genesis, this meant War and Strife were assigned to uncovering Lucifer’s plot and stopping him. The story itself was also serviceable and also helped fill-in gaps from the previous titles. Though Strife was a new character, I also liked getting to know War a little more beyond the stoicism he displayed in the first Darksiders. It also helped shape my understanding of who Strife was and his potential role in the next mainline title.
Alas for our two heroes, they figure out Lucifer’s plan much too late and humanity is infected with hatred and lust and all the bad emotions, a la Pandora’s Box. This then sets in place the creation of the seven seals that would be broken in the first game and the start of the apocalypse.
The combat also differs quite a bit from the Darksiders titles. Instead of a third-person action game where the camera sits over the shoulder of the character, it uses an isometric view. Additionally, the developers also hoped to make it an enjoyable co-op adventure reminiscent of Diablo or Twin-Stick Shooters (if controlling Strife. I preferred War for the damage he dealt out, as I felt the enemies did not die quick enough before Strife was overwhelmed by numbers until a certain upgrade was obtained). As I have no siblings and none of my friends had picked up the title, I played it solo. Despite that, I very much enjoyed my time and did not find my efforts hampered in the least due to my playstyle. In fact, I quite enjoyed jumping from character to character in order to solve problems as well as in combat.
Darksiders Genesis does not contain a traditional levelling up system, though there is a gauge on each mission for players to know how strong their characters need to be. This is usually calculated by the items discovered - such as health and wrath cores, pieces of armour as well as enemy cores that are slotted into an upgrade system. In order to obtain these enemy cores, the player can kill them or purchase them from Vulgrim. With my terrible RNG luck, it took a while for me to build up a stash or even level them up. Once maxed out, any additional cores provide souls - the currency of the Darksiders games. This allowed me to mix and match abilities and statistics to my advantage, though I often had to remind myself to slot them in place.
I also liked how the game allowed me to explore the map, with collectibles cleverly hidden away behind puzzles. It was also clear, however, that many of the levels were made with replayability in mind as not all collectibles could be obtained in a single playthrough in the early stages.
Overall, Darksiders Genesis proved an interesting diversion from the woes of our current plight. I’m intrigued by what the Darksiders series will take us next. There are so many different ways the overall narrative could play out and I can’t wait to properly jump into the boots of Strife as he tackles whatever impossible task that is set before him. It would also be nice to play as all four and witness as they wreak havoc to demon and angel alike.

Darksiders III: An interesting addition to an underrated franchise
I’m finally working on my backlog of games since I have the time to do so and the lack of funds to buy anything new. This recipe for boredom has brought me back to a game that I bought, played very little of and moved onto the next, despite my love for the series. Darksiders 3 is an interesting game in that it honestly was thought that it would never appear. The Darksiders series was originally published by THQ in 2010 with the first game involving War, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and his quest to discover the one responsible for ending the world. The second game followed his brother Death in a concurrent story that had him searching through various worlds in order to prove War’s innocence in all this. While both games were well received, they ended with more questions than they did answers and so people were anticipating the release of the third and fourth games, assumedly of the other Horsemen, so that we could uncover the mystery of who began the apocalypse. Then THQ went bankrupt. For years, fans had no idea who even owned the rights to the games after their assets has been liquidated, let alone if the series would ever come back. Luckily, the rights for Darksiders, along with many of their other IPs, went to Nordic games, now known as THQ Nordic, who hired some of the old developers and revitalized the series 6 years after Darksiders 2’s release.
The Darksiders games have always been considered what I call -esque games, meaning that they often are similar to other popular games. For instance, Darksiders 1 is God of War-esque while Darksiders 2 is more similar to action RPGs like Diablo, though Darksiders Genesis is a much stronger comparison. In the same vein, Darksiders 3 borrows similar mechanics from the Souls games, a common trend at the time. It doesn’t lose the central mechanics that have persisted throughout the games. The hack and slash combat and Metroid-esque puzzle mechanics are still present in the game, which can sometimes create a disconnect in the gameplay. The most glaring example of this is the lack of any map function. While this works well in souls games due to the open nature of the map and the lack of any obstacles prevent you from accessing different areas, for Darksiders, it becomes frustrating because there are secrets and areas that can’t be accessed until you get certain abilities and it makes backtracking incredibly more difficult due to the lack of navigation. It also makes the main objective, finding and defeating the Seven Deadly Sins, much more difficult because there are no obvious pathways to the bosses that must be fought, despite there being a definitive order to the bosses that must be followed simply because you can’t progress until you get the powers necessary to make it to the next area. I haven’t played a lot of the game yet and I already think I may have missed a boss entirely because I didn’t see a way to them, even though they were introduced in the dialogue. I simply went the way I thought was right and I ended up in an entirely different boss battle that brought me elsewhere. While I am loving the game so far, I still haven’t figured out what type of game it is. I may reconsider the game once I’ve made significant progress.

Mad ol Fury gon get her mallet sketch done So after today's announcement of the new Darksiders Genesis spinoff I got super hyped(Huge fan of this series and I ADORE the Diablo gameplay style showed)So I felt like getting back to my Darksiders 3 Armaggedon run(was at Lust).I got the hammer and this time around I got really into using it(even farmed the crucible to get it upgraded). Its surprisingly fast for a slow weapon(got too used to Bloodborne and Dauntless's slow heavy weapons prolly) Regardless had this old sketch of fury replicating a goofy Courage the cowardly dog scene and I wanted to finish it today XD.

Some more info on Darksiders Genesis
Can’t believe I forgot to post about this when I saw it on Twitter, but anyway, RPGsite.net recently did an interview with Joe Madureira about Darksiders Genesis. Here’s some stuff we’ve learned:
According to Joe, "Fury and Death are...otherwise engaged in other missions, they are not playable in this game. They're in some cutscenes, but they aren't in the game." So that should be interesting, especially since this game takes place almost immediately after the Four had to slaughter their own kind.
When asked whether this was Strife’s solo title, Joe said this: "That wasn't the idea at all for us. It was cool to have both a brand new character and a returning one, but that's really a THQ question about whether they want to make Strife have his own solo adventure or not. It's cool that they've let us debut him this way, but I don't know if this would count as his own game." ... That does so not bode well, imo. I mean, I love that Joe Mad wants him to have his own solo, but my trust in THQ is shaky. I tweeted them, but got no reply (as expected). Fingers still crossed for Darksiders 4 as Strife’s solo title.
One of the demons we’ll get to fight in-game is Mammon, in the middle of his gold hoard. Strife’s reaction? Wants to take a gold toy rocking horse as a souvenir. War decides to be a spoil sport.
Strife’s the single-target damage dealer, War is great for crowd control.
While Genesis has been compared to Diablo, it won’t have the same loot mechanics or procedural generation as Diablo.
Strife can use up to 7 different types of ammo.
Each level can be replayed on higher difficulty to get more upgrade items (Creature Cores).
While Darksiders 3 was in development by Gunfire Games (half the original Darksiders team), they sent the script to Airship Syndicate (Joe Mad and the other half of the original team) and he sent back updated designs for Fury and Strife. In return, GG helped out AS when they were using the Unreal engine for Genesis. Considering how often different studios working on the same franchise end up not collaborating at all (partially because of really strict IP rules and NDAs), this is really cool and heartwarming.

Darksiders Genesis actually looks very good. So good in fact that I pre-ordered the collectors edition, oops! Strife is visually and conceptually my favorite horseman. I say it like that because I don’t actually know how he’s like and how he plays, but I’m about to find out in Genesis aren’t I? I also really wanted that statue of him.
DS3 was a bit of a disappointment, but I am looking forward to this. It seems to be like a classic Darksiders game but with a new camera perspective. People though it was gonna be a Diablo-like, but nah. Darksiders all the way.
