Do you think the Digital World has urban legends? Like La Llorona or stories that aren't that scary to adults but are to children and are used to keep young Digis in line.
The most common one being if you're being bad a Demon Digimon would come and take you to the Dark Area.
At the seas there are legends of a giant beast that sink down ships. What kind of Digimon this 'beast' is depends on the region, but the most common one being Splashmon Darkness Mode or a gargantuan Whamon.
Another story of kidnapping is that Hookmon or Captain Hookmon will come take away young Digimon that stayed up late at night, forcing them to either join his crew or make them walk the plank. This is debunked so many times.
Demon or Nightmare Soldiers Digimon has their own stories too, they warn the young Digimon in their community to stay in the shadows, fearing that a Holy Digimon would saw and harm them.
Dragon Digimons has stories about Zanbamon, and how it's sword makes a screaming sound when swung as it contains souls of Dragon Digimons it had killed.
There's legends about a Dark Trailmon, that is said to have a rail connecting to a station located in the Dark Area. While existence of this Dark Trailmon is a mystery, many Demon Digimon said that the station and this specific Trailmon does exists.
There's even urban legends about the Royal Knights, about the existence of Dark Magnamon. The rumour is debunked, as the Digimental of Miracles is impossible to be tainted. Although some says that Dark Magnamon harnessed it's power from the Dark Ocean instead.

I’ve created some Vanguard Digivolution lines. After Tamer ZERO I plan to do a different take on the crossover with different partners that’s more of a complete au.
These ones just include their straightforward lines and possible dark evos. I don’t know when this story is happening because I’m determined to finish Tamer ZERO first so here’s the lines😅.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was thinking that him having a different partner for season 2 would make sense considering this a complete au where everything is Digimon instead of Vanguard. So instead of his deck getting poofed away it’s his partner with the two coming together as a jogress representing the Liberators.
I also kinda want to use Erlangmon with him at some point 🤔. I’m still deciding how I would want to implement that. Maybe it could be a form that his partner takes on due to the Messiah equivalent’s influence. I do like the idea of his Digimon going from virus to vaccine.
Tumblr media
This is a different take from his partner pick in Tamer ZERO focusing more on the narrative idea on the development from Agumon representing young Kai to the distorted original Metalgreymon. With this comes with a shift from vaccine to virus as he becomes obsessed with gaining power to save Ren. I think BlitzGreymon is very the End-like.
Tumblr media
Kamui’s alternate partner choice was so hard because I decided that every member of Q4 has a partner that’s a different one of the main types so Kamui ended up with free which I think fits him well.
Tumblr media
Dianamon was a really easy choice fr😅. I also like the idea of her having a jogress with Kourin.
Tumblr media
This line is more in reference to her manga/reboot deck whereas the Tamer ZERO one is based on og. Overall, I think it fits rather well as an alternate pick.
Tumblr media
Loogamon is unfortunately too new to have an edgy recolor so the best I could do is Gabumon Black. I have considered giving him Dracmon too because I think they’d vibe. The only reason there is no ultra is because I can’t think of a good candidate for it rn.
Tumblr media
You may have noticed a pattern with all the Psyqualia users (minus Ibuki because the choice for him is perfect regardless of if it breaks the theme) that their partners are all virus type (at some point at least). I thought it would be an interesting reference to the darker side of Psyqualia. Doing Leon’s made me realize that we need more aquatic Digimon fr.
Tumblr media
There’s no way I couldn’t give Deletor Ibuki Arcadiamon. It’s WAY too perfect. Its power level even fits well. After getting friendship speeched he has Hackmon for obvious reasons.
Tumblr media
There’s no way I couldn’t give him Veemon. Using a jogress as a normal evolution is a bit weird but it’s been done before. Also because I was thinking that Paladin Mode reminds me a lot of Chronojet Dragon Z. It’s mode changes as Imperialdramon could be interpreted as it’s many strides. In the future I might include UlforceVeedramon or a different version of Magnamon here (to avoid too much overlap) as references to other strides. The black armored Magnamon is from ReArise. I was thinking it would be a good non-Stingmon included ultimate for Imperialdramon.
I have actually made one for Akina but I want to wait for DivineZ to progress more before finalizing it. I’m still playing around with various ideas on what to give Yu-yu. I’m thinking maybe Dorumon as a reference to Aichi having a beta Digimon considering the Dress seasons seem to remix ideas from the original.

Alright, I took a look at the episode selection and... It's very interesting. First of all, it's curious that they show the "later" episodes first, leading up to the epilogue - which makes sense right before the movie, but the focus episodes are still interesting...
Tumblr media
... Especially if you look at the second badge of episodes.
Tumblr media
So my overall impression here is:
They're focusing on the introduction of the three new kids + Takari being a part of the new group. The Digimentals themselves are actually NOT a focus, since they cut away the follow-up episodes with Yamato, Mimi and Jyou. That also means cutting away the Andromon episode as well as the Dark Ocean episode...
That is further emphasized by the fact that they ONLY show the episode in which Agumon gets corrupted, but not the follow-up episode in which they rescue him (since that involves the Digimental of Friendship).
Then there's the "Kaiser defeat" arc in its entirety. (Including the Magnamon evolution and Wormmon's death.)
But then they only focus on the Adult/Champion evolutions of the new kids - whereas the Jogress/bonding episodes do NOT play a role, even though they're supposedly among the most important parts of the series!
Then, starting with the Christmas Episode, they go all the way until the end; that means that the World Tour Arc is shown, thus the ENTIRE squad gets a (more comic relief based) focus, as well as the (more serious) BlackWarGreymon/Dark Seed/Oikawa episodes.
I do not know if this selection may tell us ANYTHING about the focus/course of the 02 movie, but I would really argue that the Digimentals/Jogress evolutions are not focused on at all. The World Tour arc should definitely REMIND the viewer of all the characters (Chosen Children around the world) that will appear in the 02 movie. (And I still hope that this also means, all the Chosen will at least get a cameo.) Lore wise, the Dark Ocean is not important, but the entire build-up with the Dark Seed/Oikawa may play a role - and even if the Kyoto/gate part is not shown, I am still sure that the digital gates might play a role.
I would also imagine that the course of the movie will provide context to the start of the 02 episodes, which is why they are shown AFTER the movie took place.
But yeah, I am just throwing around my own speculations, but that is still super interesting!

DigiTimeLines: Document format [pt2]
Tumblr media
[part 1] | [AO3 version] | @digimonadventuretimelines (blog; outdated)
Part 2 is not totally focused on the next villain arc, but a few arcs involving a few kids and foreshadowing for the next segment (yes, part 3 confirmed, but not sure if it will be the closure to this big plotline) -- also there's some canon divergence in it, but this is a multiverse story project, so different sources of canon can still exist in their own timelines.

The Prelude To A New Enemy
No one knew how to explain what happened to Motomiya Daisuke. He was alive, of course, but in front of them all was… A small dog-like baby digimon with fur resembling Daisuke’s hair in color and style. In other words, he looked like a Pomeranian dog. Koushiro labeled that digimon form as “Pomeranimon” but Daisuke hated the idea of being called like that!!
Oddly, his voice sounded babyish and childish (like in Hurricane Touchdown movie) instead of the voice of an adult man. Taichi wanted more to know what happened after he got captured, but Daisuke being alive and safe now was enough for him. Ken is the one who deserved to know that info (but Taichi still wanted to know, so were the others in the room) -- but Daisuke says he’s too tired to talk. Miyako grabs her tiny and furry husband and starts demanding him to explain things NOW, and he just agrees to.
At first, Daisuke and Wingdramon managed to beat the enemies but couldn’t go home. They knew if they opened the gate, the enemies would go after Ken… So they stayed on the run and tried to survive. It was when a strange thing happened -- they met a strange Digimental in the jungle, being secured by the foe’s army. So this was the thing they were looking for, right? Something something Digimental of… Darkness? He didn’t remember very well of that part. But Ken was needed because of the Digivice of Darkness. They were trying to bring the Kaiser back and then use it to show how the humans were evil beings only interested in turning every digimon their slaves.
Daisuke and V-mon thought about taking that Digimental with them before they could use it, but Papillonmon appeared and threw those shadow butterflies against them. Then, that vile digimon forced Daisuke to use that Digimental on V-mon, armor evolving him into a black-armored Magnamon. Papillonmon then used his special attack to transform Daisuke into a digimon and labeled it Lupinmon. Since then, Daisuke and V-mon were fighting hard to regain control of their bodies but couldn’t for much longer.
It was when Magnamon ordered Natsu to go back and ask for the group’s help, but she ended up being chased by the evil enemies for five years and had no chance to get back to the human world until that day she met Daichi.
As Daisuke finishes his report, he yawns and falls asleep in Miyako’s hands. She’s about to shake him to keep him awake when Daichi intervenes saying to let him rest for a while. The adults are quite upset with their children, but they are at least relieved everyone was back and safe. Taichi tries to talk with them, but Taisuke just says he only wants to shield them, and he leaves stomping his feet on the floor. Hikari looks at Taichi, as if she knew something was wrong with them all, but she couldn’t blame those kids for trying something risky: They did the same around their ages too.
Ken mutters that they were chosen in the past, but then they made the choice to stand up and fight. Have Taichi forgotten that?
Kiyoko and Eiji follow Taisuke, trying to talk with the boy that maybe the adults were afraid of their old friend killing their children. Daichi and Hoshi come later, but Daichi seems… off. They ask what’s wrong and the kid says something is not right. Why would Papillonmon let Daisuke and Magnamon set free all of a sudden? Kiyoko gasps, ‘Are you saying dad is still in his hands!?’ but Daichi denies it, and adds that it was another thing.
What thing? The thing is… He didn’t see that Digimental his father mentioned there. So, obviously… Papillonmon retrieved it from Magnamon before leaving the Manticoremon soldiers try to get rid of them all. This made Eiji muse about that detail: Maybe Daisuke is still under Papillonmon’s spell, but not under his control. Hence why he’s still a digimon, but devolved this time. Hoshi asks if this means her dad is in danger again, and the group only assumed this could mean ‘yes’, yet they had nothing in hand to confirm their suspicions.
Would the adults believe them? Not without Daisuke and V-mon’s help.
Space-Time Traveling, Again
Once Daisuke and Chibimon had their energies recovered they were kidnapped by Kiyoko and Taisuke. The iconic 2-TOP duo were facing the children’s eyes and watching them mutter something to each other. Daisuke loses his patience, as if he was a teacher finding his classroom was merged into chaos while he was out. Mirai finds this whole situation enjoyable! A human turned into a digimon!? This must be studied! Mitsuki jokes about Mirai wanting to dissect the poor Daisuke-mon and Kiyoko snaps at them! NO ONE IS GOING TO LEND A HAND ON HIS FLOPPY FUR! (Daisuke, annoyed: Stop reminding me that I have fur!!)
Reika asks them all to behave and respect Daisuke, because he’s still an adult. Though he felt that form humiliating, only to have Elise scratch the back of his dog ear. Somehow this helped him to relax… Well, he’s stuck in that form until Koushiro can fix it. Chibimon complains, he wants to be pampered too! Elise uses her free hand to scratch Chibimon’s belly, who feels so pleased and relaxed… Until Natsu switches to Digimon form in order to get some belly rubs too. Elise complains, she can’t give love to all of them at the same time!! Her partner Zebra also complains because he wanted Elise’s attention too. She calls for the others’ help, and then Jin tells all of the digimon to stop bugging Elise.
Daichi calls everyone’s attention to their main topic, and Daisuke raises an eyebrow: What is it? His son then asks him if he or Chibimon had seen the Digimental he mentioned again, when they regained consciousness -- Daisuke and Chibimon looked at each other for a moment: OH NO, they forgot about the Digimental!! Daichi and the other kids grimace when they hear that.
Daisuke laughs nervously, and dramatically cries about him being stupid. Taisuke says, in his most tsun way, that it wasn’t his fault if he was brainwashed. The rest look at the boy, who snaps at them for that: I WAS JUST STATING THE FACTS, Y’KNOW!? Daichi wonders if he should go back in time and secure the Digimental, but Natsu says that could be wrong!
Daisuke muses that they could go back a bit further in time, but he thinks it’s risky and he should leave it to Ken and the others. Eiji counter-arguments the enemies might be after his dad now. With no other options, Daisuke sighs. He knows if he allows those children to risk their lives, their parents might unleash their wrath on him. Ulforce suggests they send just Daichi and him there, but Daisuke says they don’t know what they’re looking for! Mike suggests he describe the Digimental and that they would draw it, like the police do with suspects. Chibimon shrugs, can Daisuke be able to describe something? Daisuke squints his eyes at his own partner, and decides to go with that suggestion.
As Daisuke described the Digimental, the kids’ best artist -- Reika -- tried to capture the image in the paper. When she finished, they all looked at it. Taisuke says it looks like “a World’s Cup trophy-thing, but in cold colors” and everyone glanced at him. He does “What? I think it’s what I see here! Evil Soccer Cup’s Trophy.” -- Hoshi growls, this wasn’t the right hour to think about soccer!! Daisuke, with a deadpan face, looks at the kids and just agrees with Taisuke.
They have a plan, and then Daichi now tells them to keep everyone, mr. Ichijouji Ken included, safe while he’s out. The kids agree. Daisuke says he wants to go, but Natsu says she and Ulforce can protect Daichi for him. With everyone’s agreement, Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu go to the Dimensional Space dungeon again.
Daisuke still thinks everything is his fault, so he asks Taisuke, Hoshi and Eiji to take him to Taichi and Ken. Chibimon cannot evolve if Daisuke can’t use his digivice, so they have to be protected by those kids.
Hard Task: Talking to Taichi & Ken
The Ichijouji siblings could manage to call Ken for a small talk with Daisuke, but can Taisuke contact his dad for this too? The answer is… There’s a lot happening between Taichi and his son, Taisuke definitely hates the fact his dad is a busy man and since this whole crisis started, Taichi didn’t get time to rest and be with him and his mother. So, Taisuke is definitely out of his reach right now. But Daisuke needs to talk with Taichi immediately -- Maybe the best scenario would’ve been with both at the same time.
Hoshi knows Taisuke has a beef with her uncle Taichi. Eiji knows Hoshi and Taisuke do not get along either. And he’s a shy person, a bookworm. He cannot raise his voice and stop any clash between his sister and his cousin-and-best-friend.
Daisuke frowns: This is too much for him. If he were still human he could act as the responsible adult he is, but as a… digimon? He’s small and cannot do much! So, he had to count on Eiji for this. The moment Hoshi and Taisuke started arguing about how to call Taichi, things began overwhelming Eiji. The digimon with them were trying to help to reach a conclusion, but those two human children are hard to deal with.
Daisuke tries to call them out, but yup. His small dog-like shape cannot stop those two. Kitty, Sting and Draki as well, they were almost arguing between themselves too. It is when Eiji snaps and shouts. His hair went all over his face, resembling Ken in his child days. He tells them to stop, that this wouldn’t help anyone and that mr. Motomiya wanted their help for something important! Everyone glances at the boy in shock. Daisuke blinks, and comments this reminded him of when Ken used to snap at the others when he got angry. Eiji starts apologizing for that, that he didn’t want to… But Daisuke smiles at him and says he didn’t do anything wrong. Everyone agrees, they were wasting their time with that nonsense.
Eiji comments that if they get to talk to their dad first, they can manage to get him to call uncle Taichi with his help. Chibimon wonders if this is possible. Daisuke muses that as well, it’s not like Taichi and Ken hate each other, but they’re always kinda… awkward together… The kids agree with this too. But if this could help fight the enemy, they will cooperate with each other.
Taichi and Ken managed to meet with their kids and Daisuke. Their digimon were also present, because this is about their enemy. Daisuke took a deep breath before he could reveal something he knew. Then, when he starts… Everyone’s eyes were widened:
The enemy was trying to bring the Kaiser back, yes, but they also wanted to use him to invoke a greater threat to the world: Imperialdramon. They wanted to use Imperialdramon’s power to cause havoc in the human world, and force the humans to banish every digimon from their world, and then closing the gates around the human world.
Ken stroked his chin: This means the problem was bigger than he thought. At least it wasn’t related to some-other-digimon-he-knew (aka Millenniummon) so he was a little relieved. Chibimon could sense Wormmon was in shock, and then he added that they learned that while he and Daisuke were trying to steal the Digimental of Darkness before they could snatch it.
But that didn’t work, of course. Taichi asks why they didn't tell him before, and Daisuke looks at the floor and stays quiet. Taisuke mutters something like ‘You’re always busy, ol’ man’ which is heard by the digimon and Daisuke (because, since he’s in a digimon form his senses are pretty superhuman now) and they look at the boy. Daisuke babbles immediately that he couldn’t do that before but now he did it. Chibimon adds that Daisuke and him were ashamed of getting captured and brainwashed.
Ken muses if he is still a target, after all… Daisuke has been rescued and is back to his senses now. Daisuke frowns, he’s concerned about this form though -- If he’s really free from Papillonmon’s control. Taichi understands what that meant, and tells the kids to leave Daisuke and Chibimon with the police. Hoshi says in a serious tone that she thinks this is too harsh on them. Daisuke smiles and says Taichi’s right, he and Chibimon might still be under the enemies control and he is asking for surveillance too. Eiji frowns, but he leaves Daisuke and Chibimon in Taichi and Agumon’s hands. Kiyoko is going to kill us -- Taisuke whispers to the Ichijouji siblings. Daisuke sighs, and then makes it clear to the kids are aware that he heard them -- It’s for their children’s safety. And then entrusts Daichi and Kiyoko to those three.
Taisuke blushes, somehow. He didn’t expect to get an important task like that. Taichi and Ken ask Daisuke if this was okay and then Daisuke nods -- Those were the children who rescued him after all, and they all should trust them like their families trusted them all to beat Apocalymon and Vamdemon ages ago. Taichi nods and smiles -- Yup, they’re our children after all.
Searching for the Digimental of Darkness
Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu were looking at the infinite number of doors in that space. Ulforce wonders if they can find the right door since all of them are the same! Daichi smirks and says he had been labeling all the doors they opened with a label printer he had borrowed from Mitsuki. Natsu and Ulforce are impressed, but did he label the first door too? He reveals he had brought it with him since the first time they did space-time travel. Ulforce says HOW, but then Natsu reminds him they had been there briefly before Daichi’s decision to use that gimmick to save Daisuke.
Still, there’s a ton of doors unlabeled yet. So how could they find the one leading them to the time Daisuke and V-mon found the Digimental? Natsu suggests asking ClavisAngemon and that mysterious hooded person.
And, since she was “basically ominous” just by that mention, the woman in the hood appears in front of them. She also summons ClavisAngemon in order to lend the trio a hand. The woman notices the label printer in Daichi’s hands and asks why he had that in hands. The boy says since all of those doors have the same design and no labels, they couldn’t know where they were going, so he decided to label them by himself. She laughs kindly and reveals they could’ve used the digivice for that, since the D-TimeRune can scan the doors and point out where they could go through them. The trio stares at her, and screams in a very angry tone: WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL US FIRST!?
Daichi takes a deep breath to calm down. He just then breathes out, and shows the drawing to them -- They needed to find the door leading them to this Digimental, a door from their timeline. ClavisAngemon and the woman gasp, and her eyes are widened too. They ask why they are looking for that forbidden power, and Natsu informs them that the enemy in their timeline-bar-world had acquired and used it to put a DigiChosen against them. The woman was aware of that as well, since she can see through the doors about the past, present and the future. She is actually an overseer entity.
The trio uses the digivice this time, finding the correct door and opening it. But to their surprise, the door leads them to the human world instead. There they find a girl named Nishikawa Yume, whose appearance was pretty… familiar. She’s partnered with a YukiAgumon called Blitz. Yume knew those three were suspicious, and believed they came from the future. She’s basically the same age as him (14yo). Daichi ignored that girl and focused on finding the Digimental of Darkness quickly, BUT it felt like an impossible quest: The place Daisuke said to be where he and V-mon found it… Has no Digimental when they got there. Finding it too suspicious, Natsu uses her pendant to move through time and reach the moment the Digimental appeared. EXCEPT Yume and Blitz managed to sneak into their magical bubble-shield and witness their secret. Ulforce gets annoyed by those two, but Daichi interrupts him and asks how they got there. Yume smiles and says she knows what they’re looking for, and offers to help them, in return for a favor. What is her deal? To use Daichi’s power in order to protect someone important to her. Natsu finds it fishy, but the boy accepts the offer and makes a deal with that girl. Yume then mentions the existence of a dark passage in that area, leading them to another parallel realm where the Digimental is locked to not be caught by no one. Ulforce asks how she knows that, and she says better they do not know.
Small Yet Helpful
Koushiro, Jou and Miyako were studying Daisuke’s Pomeranimon form. They had Gennai’s help as well, but it seemed that none of them could find an answer to why Daisuke is still a digimon. Daisuke was afraid of him still being under Papillonmon’s control, hence why he asked to be kept locked and under surveillance. What if he hurts someone!? He would never forgive himself if something like that happens. Miyako ran a few more tests on Daisuke, ones that could detect digimon’s coding and digital waves on him, but thankfully nothing was found. So, something else was preventing Daisuke from returning back to his original human form. But what?
Mirai drops by and asks the adults if she could help in something, but they are still not sure if they could let her do anything. They just ask her to keep protecting the digimon and humans while they work on it. Mirai fakes a smile and then leaves. But at night she just comes back and kidnaps Pomeranimon.
When Daisuke asks her why she says she’s just upset that no one wants her giving them a hand because she’s seen as too young for that. Except she’s too smart compared to the children from her age, and this makes her frustrated because she does not know what to do then -- adults say she’s too young to help them, and children around her age say she’s too different from them to play with her. The exceptions were Taisuke and Elise (who are the same age as her), because they also feel different and weird. Daisuke frowns, and she says she wants to be a “normal” person. Daisuke replies saying it’s okay to be different, and that people should accept her for who she is. He knows Koushiro’s reasons to refuse Mirai’s help was due to the fear of him still being under the enemy’s power… So he reveals that to her. He also says maybe she could help him out, but that they kept that a secret from the others. Mirai asks what it is, and then he says “Be yourself, do what you do the best. Leave the adults to me.” With this, Mirai nods and says she will then use her expertise to find out how to bring him back to normal, but Daisuke asks her another favor -- to help Daichi as much as she can for him.
All of those requests given to the children… They sounded like either Daichi was in trouble, or Daisuke was about to die. But rest assured, it’s just Daisuke being a dramatic dad and wanting Daichi’s friends to help his son as much as they can.
Mirai and Daisuke’s convo are interrupted by a Phantomon. The small pup form for Daisuke wasn’t able to beat a Perfect level digimon, and yet…!! Mirai calls for Koh (the KoKabuterimon) help, who evolves into Kabuterimon and faces the enemy. Koh is not used to fighting, so all he does is prevent Phantomon from capturing Mirai and Daisuke. He grabs them and retreats, but Phantomon chases them. Daisuke knows he has to do something, but… Heh, he just jumps from Mirai’s arms and throws himself at Phantomon’s face. Mirai and Koh scream, and then… Mirai’s digivice shoots a light on Daisuke’s Pomeranimon form.
He evolves… Back to Lupinmon -- Except it’s Fairytail Mode Lupinmon. That new digimon form is stronger and he destroys Phantomon, but before destroying it, he snatches something from the digimon’s robes and is caught by Koh. Mirai wonders if she just formed a link with Daisuke and he’s also confused -- So, this digimon form can be linked to digivices!? Can he link himself to his old D-3 and then evolve V-mon again!? Maybe… Sure, why not try it!?
The Digimental of Darkness’ Hidden Dimension
How did Yume know about that? They were told that they were better not to know the answer, but they would go investigate that later. They managed to go there without her and Blitz, so they could have a talk about what they think of her at least. Daichi’s opinion is maybe she has a reason to not tell them where she got that info, Natsu and Ulforce’s are she’s fishy, better not trust her at all.
Said Digimental was there, Ulforce and Natsu could feel it, though they couldn’t see it. But before that, what would they do? Grab the Digimental and leave? According to Daisuke’s report, the enemy had secured the Digimental and was hunting Ken down for his digivice. But what were Daisuke & V-mon thinking to do next? Just flee? Hide the Digimental? Take it to Koushiro or Gennai? Destroy it? They had no idea what they should DO with that thing!!
Of course Daichi was aware of how Digimentals work -- you say “Digimental Up!” and then it activated the Armor Evolution. But Daichi also knew Ulforce is a V-mon, and V-mon species had an affinity to Digimentals. He wouldn’t risk turning Ulforce or Natsu into a feral monster and let them run amok. They needed a strategy.
Searching the area for the Digimental they found its guardian -- Aegiochusmon: Dark. Prepared for battle, Daichi puts Ulforce and Natsu on hold and tries to explain to Aegiochusmon why they were there. Aegiochusmon understood them, but it’s when they learn that the changes in the past wouldn’t erase/destroy the future or present, and yes that Daichi was creating new alternative timelines for them all. But how did Aegiochusmon know that? Daichi was in denial now. Natsu stays silent, and Ulforce tries to attack with his V-Bracelets. Aegiochusmon then repels the plasma shots and threatens to send them to the null area if they don’t leave.
Daichi keeps refusing that information, Ulforce orders Aegiochusmon to give them the Digimental, but the other refuses to. Natsu grabs both Ulforce and Daichi, thanks Aegiochusmon and leaves immediately. The boys complain hard and criticize her behavior, but she ignores them. Daichi was feeling she was hiding something from them. Then, she suggests they find the Digimental of Miracles to counter-attack the Digimental of Darkness. Ulforce wonders why Miracles and not Light -- The Digimental of Light is the opposite of the Digimental of Darkness after all. The logic lied more in the sacred power and high defensive stats the Digimental of Miracles could give them.
With this… They returned to their present again.
Another Kind of Trouble (?)
Remember when I said there’s two main enemies before? The other issue making Taichi lose brain cells to put an end to the conflict was the anti-digimon people. Despite having the entire world’s populace partnered with digimon, some of those people hated them and had awful relationships with the digimon -- might become a bit heavy here, but -- such as abusing them, harming them and even trying to end their lives… Or using them for crimes.
Criminals are “easy” to deal with, at least. You arrest the human and send their partner to some sort of a victim protection program to keep the digimon safer from the toxic human tamer… And then “undo” their partnership -- not that they end the connection between human and digimon, but they send it back to the Digital World to be taken care of by a special group of caregivers formed by digimon and humans habiting the DW.
As for abuse, harm or murder attempt cases… Those are harder and it’s just like what happens to human beings, but they couldn’t let the digimon return to those people’s hands. So they’re completely sent to the same group of caregivers and under the victim protection program. Things might be harder than dealing with a human being though, and no one wants those digimon victims to be devolved into digiegg stage.
The rest of the Neo Chosen group is focused on saving the digimon from bad partners, while Daichi is out. They’re forced to protect the digimon before the human partner triggers a dark evolution and go amok, so many times those kids had no other choice but revert the wild feral dark evolution into an egg or baby form. With the help of the police, the adults would arrest the toxic tamer and never let their digimon see them again -- unless they redeem themselves and repent for their actions. Because yeah, those kids and their parents/relatives would hope for the best and happy ending.
But digimon taking control over their partners also exist. Criminal digimon abusing their human partners, forcing them to commit crimes, to evolve them so they could hurt and destroy stuff also exist and are on the top of the list for things the Neo Chosen and their families have to combat. In this case the human is protected from the digimon, and the digimon is forced back to digiegg state.
Some of those cases ended up with the rest of the kids unlocked Adult and Perfect evolution for their partners:
Elise: BlackGabumon → B.Garurumon and B.WereGarurumon
Mike: Floramon → Sunflowmon and Lilamon
Jin: Kamemon → Gawappamon and Shawujinmon
Reika: Armadimon → Ankylomon and Triceramon
Mitsuki: Tsukaimon → Pidmon and HolyAngemon
Mirai’s partner, Koh, would super evolve later, but at this point she was just busy working behind the curtains and working as some sort of navigator-esque character.
Another problem they have to face is people very Menoa-like trying to build mindless human-made digimon for military and war purposes. Taichi & co. hated this case so badly that the authorities and agents like Yamada Kyotaro (also known by “Imura Kyotaro”) would put a stop on any program or project involving this kind of research and manufacture.
But a part of their worries was definitely Papillonmon’s plans -- where did he go and what will he do now?
Clash Between Daichi and Soleil
The “Space trio” -- Soleil, Lune and Étoile -- kept working on their own way: In the shadows and doing the sneaky job. They met with Daichi in the meantime, when the boy was seeking for the Holy Beasts. Soleil uses a prophetic voice tone saying Daichi is too soft for the world-saving job and that he was selected as the savior of the worlds by Homeostasis. Natsu and Ulforce definitely argue with Soleil that Homeostasis don’t go and threaten people like him. Soleil is so sure Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu are disobeying the “divine” orders and unleashes his fury on them -- claiming himself to be the embodiment of Justice.
A fight happens between Flaremon and AeroV-dramon. Lune realizes Ulforce is an interesting digimon specimen and tells Lekismon to stop the fight by putting Flaremon and AeroV-dramon in sleep. Soleil growls at the interruption, but he calms down when Lune justifies just letting Daichi and co. roll with it, because things would’ve been more “interesting” -- no one besides Lune herself knew what that meant (it means she wanted to study Daichi’s methods and philosophy, that’s it.)
Étoile suspiciously drops a card on Natsu, asking to meet her later… Without Daichi and Ulforce. The card also meant it wasn’t a trap, just a human-to-digimon talk. Natsu accepts the terms, and waits for Étoile later, on a… Digimon bar. This bar had everything -- Alcohol and non-alcohol, also oil and other non-human drinks. Why would a human kid want to meet her there?!
Turns out that… Étoile is not human.
Natsu noticed it by the fact Étoile did not appear as Étoile, and yes as an enigmatic and elusive digimon named Arsenemon. He was like her and Arukenimon & Mummymon, or Bakemon species -- a digimon able to shapeshift into a human being. He had chosen that form in order to hide from Lupinmon and protect his archnemesis Herlockmon -- now devolved into a purple Pokomon/Viximon subspecies. Natsu realized something was familiar to her… Daisuke was Lupinmon, but he did not turn back to normal and just reverted into a small baby II level digimon after he was rescued. Could this mean…??
Arsenemon says that he’s aware that Daisuke did not do anything purposely and was a victim, but he was so done with Papillonmon and his lackeys for that. But he also suspected that someone was pretending to be Homeostasis and just manipulating Soleil and Lune under the curtains. Natsu nods in agreement -- Homeostasis does not talk like that at all, they’re not a god-like figure, it’s just a security system for the Digital World.
But who?
The Holy Beast, Yume and Daichi
Before continuing, Daichi and co returned and reported to Daisuke and the others about their discoveries -- Daisuke got a little sad they couldn’t prevent it from happening, but Eiji says that might be for a good cause… They talked to the adults about this too, and then Ken mused about Natsu’s idea to use the Digimental of Miracles to counter the Digimental of Darkness. Yet they had no idea what would happen next, like what Papillonmon would do, or if there’s a way to bring Daisuke back to normal. Then, he asked the kids to search for an old acquaintance of the group, one of the Holy Beasts he and the others had met before in their childhood. Daisuke suggested going with them, but Hikari quietly asked if it was safe to let Daisuke go with them in this state. Koushiro interrupted them saying there’s still something off with Daisuke and they couldn’t take their eyes off him. When the kids asked why, Daisuke changed his mind and said he must stay under surveillance. Mirai frowned, this didn’t sound correct…
Actually Daisuke, for being able to “evolve” into Lupinmon again because of Mirai… Had made Daisuke himself concerned of not being free from Papillonmon’s power, not from his mind control (this one was already undone by Daichi) -- so he feared running amok soon or later.
Now, after facing Soleil and Natsu had talked with Étoile… the trio plus Taisuke, Kiyoko, Eiji and Hoshi wander through the Digital World, as a group. They ran through a few issues, but nothing big. To meet the Holy Beasts, they have to contact one of the Digital World’s agents (aka Gennai’s kind, or Gennai himself) -- But this is where they… had no idea how to meet an agent.
Yume appears with her partner YukiAgumon (named Blitz) and she asks Daichi if he got what he wanted. The others minus Natsu and Ulforce glance at Daichi and “do you know this girl?” but Daichi completely ignores their question and replies to Yume with a nod and adds that he couldn’t get the Digimental but they came up with another plan to countermeasure it. Then, Yume asks what it is and Hoshi whispers to Daichi to not tell that girl anything… Except he ignores his friends again and tells Yume that they’re looking for the Holy Beasts.
Yume smiles and says she knows those digimon, making everyone exclaim in shock. Natsu raises an eyebrow because how could that human girl know the Holy Beasts? That’s fishy…!!
But Yume takes them to the area where the one she knows the most reigns and it’s…
Baihumon.
Kiyoko blinks, “Shouldn’t we be meeting a blue dragon instead?” and the group confirms it. Yume says Baihumon is an old acquaintance of her father, and that they barely meet nowadays. Taisuke wonders if the Holy Beasts are all partnered with humans and then Eiji -- in his very smart aleck mode -- remembers them about the fact some books and digimon folklore mentions that four of the five Chosen Children digimon have ascended into the final form as the Holy Beasts. Ulforce, Natsu and the rest of the digimon confirm it. Taisuke then asks what happened to the fifth digimon from that group and then none of the digimon or Eiji knew. Yume then slips something like “they died in combat” and Daichi frowns, he goes straight to the point: “Are you related to the fifth Chosen and their digimon?”
Baihumon interrupts them, asking why Yume brought those people and digimon to him. She gently says they’re looking for the Digimental of Miracles, to counter the power of the Digimental of Darkness. Baihumon seems surprised by the mention of that wicked Digimental, and then asks the kids what happened to its guardian. Again, none of them know what happened to Aegiochusmon: Dark, but Taisuke jumps into the conclusion that that guardian had betrayed everyone! Eiji thinks the most realistic conclusion is either that or that the enemies beat the guardian.
Daichi wasn’t that interested in the theories revolving around what happened to Aegiochusmon, but he definitely got some interest on Yume’s behavior when Taisuke asked about what happened to the fifth kid and their partner digimon. But this is everything Yume wanted, actually -- to lure Daichi into her own selfish plan.
Baihumon then decides he will talk to the other Holy Beasts and pass their reports to them, he’s a courteous but not so friendly digimon though, but he kept contact with human beings because of Qinglongmon and his human partner. Seems like he was hiding something too, considering he didn’t say anything regarding his fifth old comrade… Hoshi notices that Daichi is too quiet to the point it’s suspicious, so once they’re back to the human world she asks him what’s going on. Daichi mentions he’s not very sure why, but both Baihumon and Yume were acting strangely when Taisuke asked that question, and Taisuke himself starts wondering if they should investigate that. Kiyoko and Eiji remind them that there’s a digi-crisis happening right now and they shouldn’t get distracted by this. Hoshi suspiciously agrees with Taisuke -- that they should go with it. The kids look at Natsu for a while, and she shrugs. It’s futile to discuss with them, but she also thinks it won’t hurt to research about some fellow Chosen Child while they wait for the Holy Beasts’ decision.
Meeting Baihumon’s Human Partner
With the power of Mirai and Mitsuki’s investigative skills, the group reach a man running a coffee shop in Tokyo called Nishijima Daigo. He was possibly in his late forties and was different from the kind of partner the group had thought of -- He was a completely charismatic, caring and lovely person… Also a walking mess.
Meeting mr. Nishijima made Daichi even more curious about Yume’s true personality -- there was something off in her, yet something… familiar. The kids ask the man about the Digital World he had met in the past, and his reaction is… He completely changed his mood to someone more serious. He asks those young Chosen how did they know about him and his connection to Baihumon, and then Hoshi says his daughter told them. He almost burns his coffee brew by the mention of Yume. He sighs, so she’s doing that again huh… But how they knew about his child was a mystery. Daichi then explains to the man that they met before, a few years ago in 2024 during a mission (he’s not sure IF he can give the details of holding the power to space-time travel though… So not many people are aware of Daichi having said power… yet) and it makes Nishijima wonder which kind of mission would this kid have been involved in to cross with Yume’s path.
It doesn’t matter, Nishijima then tells them to not let her convince them from doing something risky. This makes Eiji raise an eyebrow -- What does Nishijima mean? It’s when the man writes down a few things on a paper napkin and hands it to Natsu (assuming she’s an adult human and responsible for them) with the vague phrase of “Do not let her know about this, but search it by yourselves.”
They left after a brief break to eat a few pastries and non-alcohol drinks from the café, praising Nishijima’s cuisine and cooking skills -- which made the man go back to his good mood and bubbly personality.
Once they left, they had to think about where to go to search for… a person named Himekawa Maki. Eiji suggests them searching in the Digital World’s library -- the Tree of Knowledge. That sounded like a good plan!! But Taisuke just thinks they should ask for Mirai’s help. They look at the boy for a moment and Daichi says, with a deadpan face, “Both? Both. Both is good” -- The mention of that meme makes them realize Daichi is in better shape than he was years ago. So they go to the Tree of Knowledge with Mirai and Koh.
Himekawa Maki’s Secret Life
Nishijima didn’t clarify things enough. The kids and their mons were wondering what kind of role this Himekawa Maki person would have in Yume’s life, but then they would just find a picture of this person in the database and realize that… Himekawa Maki is Yume’s mother.
Or to be more accurate, was. They learned through those archives that she died in a digimon incident after she had given birth to Yume, months later.
The causes of her death weren’t totally depicted to the public archives, which lead the kids to think something more and more serious had happened and their parents had to hide from the public. If they ask their families, there is a high chance of leading them to more misleadings than someone being pretty honest about this. Something… Maybe Nishijima wanted to hide that from Yume and asked them all to keep it a secret? So Ulforce asks them what they should do now, and then Taisuke dramatically gestures to the Know-It-All Genius Junior Izumi Mirai. Oh, that was Taisuke’s backup plan!! There’s nothing that Mirai cannot discover!!
So Mirai starts inspecting the files, the database and even running into some archives protected by password. Seeing a key requirement made them believe that yeah, there’s something behind this all and they had to pass by a permission key wall. It’s when Mirai chuckles and starts bragging about her new ‘gimmick’ -- a virtual replica of the Digimental of Knowledge, containing the Digimental data stored into her D-TimeRune Digivice. Everyone was so impressed by that that they wondered how she managed to get a Digimental for that, and then she said she copied the data from mr. Hida’s digivice.
But why should they use a Digimental data to bypass the permission wall? And then, she reveals about Koh’s armor evolution -- Searchmon. Everyone isn’t sure what that meant, but then she proceeds to demonstrate that trick. She armor evolves Koh with that data to Searchmon, and then Koh uses his Jamming Hertz special move on the wall. Thanks to it, the wall malfunctioned and then it opened the files, as if the key was input. Taisuke asks how she did that, and then Eiji theorizes that Searchmon’s attack might have worked as some sort of key-gen and generated a permission key to access those archives. Hoshi asks why wouldn’t they just protect those archives with a strong password and then Taisuke smirks and gushes that Mirai would’ve found her own way to bypass that too. Kiyoko reminds them that her and Daichi’s mother is an excellent hacker too, so it wouldn’t be that hard. (Was Kiyoko jealous? Who knows~)
Once they get access to those files, they start reading them all and looking for anything that could lead to answers… Until Kiyoko finds out something.
The group gathers to the screen she was reading and they learn that Himekawa and Nishijima were part of a prior group, one before ambassador Yagami’s group. And that those five kids faced the Dark Masters trio, but they were beaten. Himekawa’s anger led Megadramon (Bakumon’s perfect level form) to evolve further and then become Mugendramon -- who would later be corrupted and then become the forth Dark Master. The other four kids and their digimon had unlocked the form of the Holy Beasts for their partners and they had no other choice but destroy Mugendramon, reverting it into a corrupted Digiegg. Gennai and the others had to hide this secret from Himekawa for ages, that Bakumon’s egg had hatched later and then that Mugendramon turned into the same tyrant ruler of the Metal Empire area ambassador Yagami and the others had faced in 1999. This secret was kept from everyone else, so none of the Tokyo Twelve (Taichi and Daisuke groups, actually) were aware of it. But Himekawa ended up doing everything she could to bring Bakumon back from the Dark Area, leading to a brand new digimon crisis… And in the end, she was killed by her own partner once she managed to get Mugendramon’s data. This was months after she and Nishijima had a child on October 19 2013, named Yume. Nishijima begged everyone to hide this info from his daughter, so of course he and Baihumon wouldn’t say anything about it.
But… Does it mean Yume learned the truth? She was kinda bugged by Taisuke’s question and Daichi mentions he heard her saying “they died in combat” -- so maybe Yume's not aware of the truth, but maybe some sort of fakery story where her mother died as some heroine?
Yes. Yume’s story about her mother was totally covering the bad parts of it: She was trying to help the Chosen Children, but sacrificed herself in order to save everyone.
No one noticed until now, but Mirai had brought Daisuke inside her purse (because… She was convinced that he wasn’t a baddie anymore, and they were bonding quite well as mentor-mentee) and he did witness the entire story. He gets out from the purse and exclaims that they never had imagined that! The kids get surprised by this sneaky Pomeranimon and Mirai babbles that she couldn’t leave him inside a cage like a lab rat! Hoshi says she shouldn’t have done that, because they don’t know if mr. Motomiya is trustworthy in this form. Kiyoko growls “Huh? Are you saying MY dad is sketchy and cannot be trusted!?” but Daisuke interrupts the possible fight to remind them they don’t know if he’s totally free from Papillonmon’s power. But Eiji’s curious about why Mirai would bring him with her, it didn’t feel like she was just taking him for a walk (Daisuke: Hey! Stop treating me like I’m a pet!! 💦) and she confesses she just thought he could help them out too, also having access to the data there could help her to find a way to turn him back into a human being.
Could this be possible? Well, if you’re in a place with tons of information and it’s called “Tree of Knowledge”, it might have the answer to that main issue. At least it’s what Mirai thought.
But going back to the main subject, Daichi realizes that “Nishikawa” might not be her real name, and yes some portmanteau of her parents names, an ALIAS. They checked the database and there was no Nishikawa person affiliated to Nishijima, he never got married again. But why would she hide her true identity…?
Yume’s Real Plan
If anything, Yume had an ambitious plan which her father had already discovered: She wanted to go back in the past and prevent her mother from sacrificing her life to save the world. In the same napkin he handed to the kids had also a plea: Please do not let Yume discover the truth, and do not let her get in touch with Mastemon.
Kiyoko frowns, “Who’s Mastemon?” and then they start scrutinizing the Tree of Knowledge’s database in order to discover about this Mastemon. Then they learn about this jogress digimon, able to travel through space-time and create portals. Natsu blinks, and then she looks at her pendant. Daichi and Ulforce look at her, and she mentions that… she possibly had inherited those powers from Mastemon -- but she’s not Mastemon herself!
So this means when Yume caught them in the past it probably drove her into the idea of using that power to go back in time and save her mother, and this sounded too familiar for Daichi… To the point he’s ashamed. Well, now he knows that no matter what he does in the past, it only creates a new setting of events for a brand new divergent timeline. He explains it to the kids, now that he’s less obsessed with that power. Kiyoko frowns again, so this means no matter what Yume does, she might never bring her mother back in this timeline… Natsu nods with a sad expression on her face.
But how to convince Yume she shouldn’t do that, that it won’t change their reality and will only cause her more grief? They started to think, and think… Daisuke sighs and says the only option is to tell her that, and hope for the best. Hoshi politely asks what would they do if she does not listen to them, and then Daisuke says they should just break Natsu’s pendant then. Natsu babbles desperately that she cannot destroy it, what if they need it later!? Mirai suggests leaving the pendant with mr. Gennai then, he’s trustworthy!! But Taisuke thinks they could leave it with the Holy Beasts, they could be able to secure that power from anyone else. But Daichi’s opinion is that they should keep it with that hooded woman from the Dimensional Space, or with ClavisAngemon. There were so many options… Daisuke keeps insisting they shouldn’t play with things involving space-time powers, that this is too much responsibility and no one responsible enough should be trusted with it. Then Natsu just thinks this is a burden because she was hated by people for having it, and Daisuke says you’re not a burden and I admire you for being this strong to carry this responsibility. Daichi jokes that “yeah, I can't be trusted with a power like this” and Ulforce and Natsu just agree with him, seriously.
Daichi blames himself for making Yume get interested in time-travel, possibly because this means something happened back in 2024 and gave her those ideas, so maybe he accidentally made a “time loop” -- and now he, Natsu and Ulforce are stuck in it. Kiyoko raises an eyebrow: If you said that anything you altered in the past created new events for new timelines, how can you be so sure it was you who met Yume in the past and gave her that idea?
Mirai also agrees that Daichi’s idea is in conflict with what was told by Aegiochusmon: Dark, so it would make no sense unless…
Oh no.
That Yume came from the past. Not from the future.
But what happened to the Yume from their actual time? Did she vanish or something?? The actual Yume would’ve been a little older than Daichi, right? If she was born in 2013… Taisuke and Daisuke gasp and think that both cannot exist in the same place!! Mirai agrees, the digimon also nod sagely, while Hoshi gives up on that talk -- It’s too much for her brain. Eiji deduces that Yume actually caused some kind of time paradox. Hoshi now is not even paying attention to the whole geek-like conversation and just started playing some game on her phone. Kitty asks if the two Yumes gathered into one? The others question if that’s possible though…
Daichi interrupts them to say maybe they should just send Yume from the past back to 2024 and tell her to not mess with space-time. But then… Draki (BlackAgumon) asks how Yume came to the future in the first place…
… They look at Daichi, who takes a moment to notice that maybe she had followed him there.
Oh well… Ulforce says they have to talk with her soon or later, and then Captain just “Well, like now?” and then they all look behind and here she and Blitz are. Taisuke gasps, shouting “DID SHE HEAR US!?” and hides behind Kiyoko and Hoshi. Seems like Taisuke was afraid of that girl since she met them and he innocently asked that question. Daichi asks if she heard them all, and how long she was there, to only have her stare at them seriously.
So everyone lied about his mother, about everything. She wasn’t a heroine but some villain. Yume didn’t want to believe it, and she wouldn’t. She keeps demanding them to help her save Himekawa because her mother wouldn’t have done something cruel like that and that everyone was lying about her. Daisuke tries to calm her down, saying something like “she wasn’t a villain but more like someone who got a terrible traumatic experience in the past” Daichi realizes his father is talking about something he doesn’t know, something Daisuke himself was hiding from him. Yume refuses to hear them out, and she keeps thinking none of them care about saving a victim. She knew the Digital World’s entities were cruel, and it made Blitz kinda sad. Blitz is the only friend Yume had her whole life, but not much talkative. But then Blitz tries to reason with Yume, saying that’s not true, after all they became friends and then partners!! Was Yume forgetting their bonds now? To condemn the Digital World to be the one to take her mother’s life?!
It’s when Daisuke just jumps from Mirai’s purse and stands in front of Yume. He wants to just talk to her, but she keeps refusing them. It’s when he just reveals what Natsu was trying to hide from Daichi -- That he was also a victim of the digimon, BUT that didn’t make him hate them at all. Daichi’s eyes widen, and the kids just exclaim “What!?” -- Yume included. Natsu was silent, but she thinks Daisuke didn’t need to go this far to talk about his past.
Then, Daisuke tells them that a digimon named Vamdemon had invaded Odaiba when he was a kid, on August 3rd 1999. He was just seven years old and he and his family were captured by Vamdemon’s minions and taken to the Tokyo Big Sight. There, he was separated from his family and put in a room with all of the kids residing in Odaiba, or the visitors from that day. He heard some of those bad guys talking about finding the Eighth Chosen Child, and he remembered seeing Tailmon for the first time in his life, way before he learned Tailmon was Yagami Hikari’s digimon partner. But he also adds that that encounter didn’t make him hate the digimon because he saw Taichi and his friends with their partners too, and how they saved Odaiba made him wish to be as strong as them. He admits he didn’t trust the digimon before, but once he met V-mon three years later, he had the chance to learn more and change his mind.
Daichi then asks Mirai if Chibimon was inside the purse and she chuckles nervously. (Yes he was inside too, but sleeping like a rock)
Yume blinks, how can a digimon be so sure about her feelings… Daisuke says he’s human trapped in a curse for now, but being a digimon for a while is making him realize how hard it might be to those digimon, and he thinks now the digi-rebels might not be entirely evil and yes digimon afraid of the unknown. She gives him a timid smile, maybe Daisuke really had a way to change people’s hearts.
Blitz says Yume and her should go back to 2024 and abandon that idea of saving Yume’s mother. Yume understands, but she wants to stay in the future now… Natsu says she can’t and that this was creating a time paradox with the Yume from 2029, in which they can’t exist in the same place at all because she’s not from a parallel world. Kiyoko gets some interest on why can’t there exist two Yumes from the same timeline, and why Natsu is implying that if one of them came from a different world this would be okay. Eiji explains that it’s because this Yume came from the past, which means the future Yume cannot exist anymore if had time-travel to the future. Hoshi thinks this is too much for her head all over again and decides before they send Yume back, they should just have fun together, at least.
Now that they solved that part… Maybe they could focus on Papillonmon’s next moves, right?

Our post-mortem analysis of 02 may be fairly long, let's start with the final tally of the major plot points of 02:
**Kaiser arc, which is composed of
***Evil Rings
***Evil Spirals
***Chimairamon
**Archnemon arc, which is composed of:
***Dark Tower Digimon, adults
***Paildramon episodes (Introduces Perfect Dark Tower Digimon)
***Silphymon episodes (Reintroduces Digimon in Real World, and first Holy Stone)
***Shakkoumon episodes (Remaining Holy Stones, and Qinglongmon)
**Oikawa arc, which is composed of:
**World Tour mini-arc
**Demon Corps mini-arc
**Black War Greymon's return & Belial Vamdemon.
Major conflicts, and minor concepts introduced could all realistically cover an entire dedicated quarter Season (ie. about 14 episodes), but all of them are covered in 3-5 episodes groups. This gives the feeling of 02 being 10-15 different Seasons being crammed into one, even though mechanics between the storyline arcs do not change drastically.
While the major arcs themselves are not a problem, all the minor conflicts, and elements within them makes the show feel more bloated than it actually is.
Kaiser arc was unambigiously the one writing staff had the most confidence in, hence why it is the longest segment by far, and why Magnamon remains V-mon's default final form in many external media. Starting with a human antagonist, and ending with a conflict that started with a human antagonist is an interesting bookend, despite the ultimate reveal of Vamdemon.

Behind the scenes notes: Part 2
* Riley’s original partners were a reptile trio of Snake (who went on to become Cobramon), Alligator/Crocodile and Turtle. ** Riley’s original team ** Vipermon/Nagamon ** Alidilemon/Crocogatormon ** Turtmon/Tortugamon ** Reptilemon ** Gorgonmon * However one night as I was trying to sleep I came up with an idea for a trio based on the three stages of water, A sea turtle for liquid (basically the turtle from Riley) a lobster for steam and a polar bear for ice. I gave this trio to Riley at first. * But the idea didn’t really sit right with me and I undid it only to refine it to a trio of robots for Grant because other than being dinosaurs there wasn’t any real trio theming to them. * Then I gave the robots to Riley to have her emotions bounce off their logic * I then got rid of the reptile team and replaced it with Snake, Spider, Bat as a homage to the classic trio of monsters from Kamen Rider. * It took me so long to figure out their ultimate * Speaking of Ultimate. The idea for the Ultimates is that the rush of three digimon’s data overwhelmed the human making the Ultimate more inhuman as a result. * They characters would describe it as walking in a swimming pool, the shallow end is champion, one digimon to one person makes it easy to contain the power. Ultimate is the deep end, you have to keep kicking just to stay on the surface. * The Megas were the human within reaching a balance with the digimon becoming more humanoid again. * Around the time I came up with Grant and Riley the idea of the Traits came to me * I flip flopped a lot on what trait to give Drake before settling on creativity. * I also flip flopped on Riley’s trait, going between Joy and Melody. If I went with the latter she would have made handmade instruments to pass the time on her journey * In my mind the symbols of the Traits are all based on emojis. * Before I decided to stick to six digidestined I had plans for a seventh and eighth. ** Seventh would have been a goth girl whose partners would have been *** Angel/Spirit/Devil *** Some kind of horror monster mix *** A twist and they’d be cute and fluffy and adorable ** Eighth would have been one of the following, skater/gamer/youtuber/geek/musician. *** I had no definite plans for his partners other than something to do with his interests.
* At one point I was toying with the idea of a teacher getting pulled into the digital world with them but not being a digidestined, they would have befriended either a Bokomon or a Professor Agumon. Or ironically have been the only one to end up in Cyber City from the start and befriending Owlmon. * Travis came to me from combining the idea of the Digimon Emperor from 02 and Kurata from Saviors. A man who hates digimon and sees them as lesser beings. Add in a dash of capitalism and BOOM villain. * Ron was originally going to be much older, an elderly man named Archie. Basically Genai. And his partner was originally going to be Leomon. * On that note originally Leomon was going to be the King after the end but when I was coming up with what Victormon (then known as Kingmon) looked like the idea of a dark copy of Magnamon came to mind so I made the main good digimon a Veedramon to balance. * Also to homage V-Tamers * By the most basic definition of owning a digivice and having a digimon partner Travis is technically a digidestined but he would reject the title as meaningless and the others would refuse to acknowledge it due to his actions. ** His trait would have been something like ambition * The original digidestined were originally just going to be a footnote to explain where the title came from in universe. * But when I get an idea I itch it with sandpaper and eventually gave them each a partner. * At first it was just their mega, picking ones based on the elements to keep it simple in my head and as a homage to the Ancient Warriors from Frontier. * Eventually I gave them all names based on the Adventure digidestined because I am lazy. * Unused ideas for Trios ** A monkey trio for See/Hear/Speak no Evil but couldn’t figure out beyond the champions. ** Past/Present/Future, couldn’t figure out how to make it work ** Wooden puppet/doll, plastic mannequin, metal robot, again couldn’t figure out how to make it work but I really liked the wood/metal pairing for a while. ** Wolf/Bear/Deer or some combination of woodland creatures. ** Rock/Paper/Scissors, couldn’t figure out how to make it work ** War/Neutral/Peace, would have been War Hawk, Peace Dove and some other bird for neutral *A huge unused concept was that the Digital World was created back when ENIAC was built in 1945 and that countless people over the years found themselves in the Digital World via the gates but very few made it back home. Either dying due to digimon attacks or exposure to the elements. Those who did make it home were believed to have gone insane. *Sequel- I have no plans to write up a sequel but it’d involve the portals being synced up to the point where digimon can pass without DNA. The digidestined would have to protect digimon from those who would exploit them and humanity from digimon who would harm them. ** The original digidestined team would return to the digital world and find the eggs of their partners who hatch into their old selves. ** Ron would make a series of new digivices and digidestined would be found around the world. ** During these challenges the digimon partners would reach their natural Ultimates and Megas. ** Taylor’s Coronamon wants to get back into the action and partners with his grandson while a Lunamon partners with his granddaughter. The two can unity digivolve into more humanioid looking champions before their normal ultimate and megas who then can DNA digivolve into GraceNovamon

Plot
Years ago two young men accidentally stumbled into a world parallel to Earth, a world made of data and code. They found that this world was inhabited by beings calling themselves Digimon. One of the men embraced the digimon as friends while the other began to plan on how to exploit them. Over the following decades the men began a cyber-tech research and development company in the hopes of finding a way to make the worlds closer together. Eventually they created devices known as the Unity Digivices they could use to bond and merge with digimon. However when one of the men tested the process it nearly ended in tragedy. As he recovered the other man took the chance to initiate a hostile takeover of the company. Years later a high school class is visiting Cyber Zenith, a cybernetics company, on a field trip to learn about the latest in cutting edge technology. However six of the students, Theodore Crossman, Felicity Harte, Grant Nichols, Melissa Meadows, Riley Collins, and Drake Walden get lost and get on an elevator. Unknown to them the man who left the elevator before them put in a code to take them to a secret area known as Unit-D.
It is here that they find six experimental devices, the newest model of Unity Digivice. Picking them up they accidentally activate them opening a portal to the Digital World. When they get their bearings the teens realize they have been separated and soon they each encounter the inhabitants of the world, the Digimon.
One teen finds himself aided by a three digimon delivery company, another finds herself in the company of a trio of wannabe magicians, the third finds himself with a group of dark dwellers, the fourth finds herself with a trio of fighters, the fifth finds herself with a group of robotic cartographers and the last finds himself with a trio of dragons.
None of the digimon know how to get the teens back to the real world due to the natural gates being unreliable. A traveling Veedramon tells them that they can find the answers in Cyber City, the capital city of the Digital World. And so each of the teens begins their journey to the capital.
On their way the teens discover that in times of danger they can Unity Digivolve and merge with one of their digimon companions to become a digimon themselves to fight off the growing threats in the Digiworld.
Soon after the teens discover this they are given a warning by a Leomon who informs them that according to Digiworld legend any digimon who consumes a human gains the ability to manifest fully into the real world. As such many digimon will be after the teens to gain this power. Leomon also helps the teens learn to master their merged forms and truly fight like digimon.
In addition to this threat the teens each encounter a group known as the Gladiators who claim to have been tasked with eliminating all the weak digimon from the digital world.
After a while the teen all find each other and catch up on what each had learned about the world and their enemies. Soon after they reach RyCy Nursery where the digimon are shocked to learn from the Jijimon and Babamon running it that Digieggs have stopped showing up. At this point they meet the Veedramon again who dubs the group the Digidestined after an ancient Digiworld myth.
Along the way to Cyber City they meet many interesting digimon such as a cult that worships a floppy disk, a city where digimon dress and act like people and a group seeking out legendary artifacts.
Before reaching Cyber City the Digidestined meet up with Leomon again. The warrior brings them to a temple dedicated to the myth of the Digidestined and instructs them to place their Digivices within podiums in front of murals of ancient symbols. After a bright light they see that the case of their digivices have been marked with the symbols, each representing a trait. Mind for Theo, Dreams for Felicity, Heart for Grant, Endurance for Melissa, Joy for Riley and Creativity for Drake.
After this Leomon joins with them and they finally reach Cyber City but all is not well. Leomon learns from an Owlmon that the king, Victormon is acting suspicious and the warrior joins her in investigating.
Victormon meets with the Digidestined and explains that the royal gate has to be in sync with the gate on Earth in order to send them home. Fortunately this will happen soon so he allows them to stay in the city and enjoy the sights. During this time the Gladiators begin to attack causing the Digidestined to engage them in combat. During these battles the digimon gain access to their natural champion forms before the Digidestined reach their ultimate forms.
When the time comes to return home however the king betrays the Digidestined and directs the gate to Cyber Zenith’s lab where they are taken captive by security.
At this point the CEO of Cyber Zenith, Travis Wilson tells them the truth of the situation. He explains that he was one of the men who discovered the Digiworld and that when they did he began planning how to use the digimon to his advantage.
He was the one who came up with the idea for Unity Digivolution as a way to give humanity the power of digimon while the other man saw it as a way to strengthen the bond between them. However only the kind man was able to get the process to work and even then it nearly killed him due to a health issue.
So Travis came up with a new plan. Joining forces with Victormon with the promise of ruling the real world they set up the Gladiators to delete large numbers of digimon and redirect the Digieggs to a special server.
After experimenting Travis found a way to rewrite the Core Code of a digimon allowing him to force it to take any possible form. An Agumon for example could be forced to become Greymon, Allomon, Tuskmon or Tyrannomon and any of their variants. The process also removed all personality as well as leaving them devoid of color, nothing but mindless puppets. To make matters worse, due to the alteration of their Core Code if they are deleted they are unable to form a Digiegg meaning they die for real. In a final act of spite he calls these beings Cybermon.
When the Digidestined express shock and disgust he explains that digimon are nothing but zeroes and ones, a pale imitation of life. However he learned through Victormon that the teens are able to Unity Digivolve and he wants to know how so he prepares to experiment on them. Unknown to him one of the teens recorded him on their normal phone.
Fortunately an Ex-Veemon breaks in and rescues the Digidestined, retrieves their digivices and flies away. He lands at a mansion outside the city and brings them inside where he reverts to his rookie form Veemon and splits from his human partner. The man promptly collapses as the Digidestined help him into a bed for his staff of doctors to help. Veemon then returns to his preferred form of Veedramon, revealing himself to have been helping them all along.
Once stabilized the man introduces himself as Ron Jones, the other man who discovered the Digiworld. He fills in the gaps of Travis’s story and confirms the details. Explaining that after he lost the company he did not give up on the Digiworld and continued to monitor it with the help of Veedramon. Learning of Travis’s plans he set to work to thwart him leading to the Digidestined ending up in the Digiworld in the first place for which he begs their forgiveness.
At this point he opens a gateway allowing the partner digimon to enter the real world explaining that the legend of “consuming a human” really meant that they had to have DNA added to their data, which happened during the Unity Digivolution process. Now it is up to the Digidestined to stop Travis’s plans.
Travis does not take this lightly as he has his minions inject their DNA into Cybermon allowing them to enter the real world and be controlled like puppets. He has them create chaos as a way to show off the power he controls and to draw out the Digidestined. During the following battle the world learns of Digimon as well as the identities of the Digidestined.
As the Cybermon fall Travis has Victormon send the Gladiator Bosses to the real world by absorbing Core Code from many digimon. In the following battles the Digidestined reach their mega forms and defeat the Gladiators who oppose them.
Finally they battle Travis who by this point has learned how to Unity Digivolve with Victormon becoming Emperormon and now Zenithmon.
Backed against the wall Zenithmon absorbs the data of the fallen Gladiator Bosses gaining further power. To combat this the Digidestined combine as one to form Hexamon who keeps Zenithmon on the ropes until they play the video of Travis confessing about the Cybermon causing Zenithmon’s combination to fail as the various Gladiators each try to take control or escape in disgust and outrage. The fused warrior is able to defeat the unstable monster ending the threat as Travis is arrested for his crimes.
In the aftermath the Digidestined are named humanity’s ambassadors to the Digital World as Ron begins work to stabilize the gateways and create “digital DNA” allowing digimon to enter the real world.
The Digidestined and their partners of course are able to travel between worlds at will enjoying life in both.
Unity Digivice- Smart phone like devices with multiple functions such as scanning digimon information, maps, and communications.
Unity Digivolution- Unity Digivolution combines the data of a digimon with the DNA of a human being creating a hybrid of both based on the next level of that digimon. Natural versions of the result exist but are more bestial in nature, the rule of thumb is any mask on a Unity Digimon is an animal head on the natural version for example.
The Digital World- The Digiworld is comprised of data taken from the internet made physical. Older objects are more pixelated. The Digiworld spins backwards compared to earth with the sun rising in the west and setting in the east. Days last 20 hours with 10 hours in daylight and 10 hours of night. A year in the Digital World lasts 100 days without months or weeks.
The environment is a mix of nature and tech with trees having wires as vines. Water and other liquids have a paint like texture. Meat grows in the ground and is surprisingly safe for humans to eat.
Digimon “eat” by absorbing data from the environment. When a digimon is deleted the data they’ve absorbed is released back into the world while their Core Code returns to Rycy Nursery in the form of a Digiegg. If a digimon’s Core Code is damaged in any way it could risk their memories of their previous life. When a digimon absorbs enough data they can willingly return to a digiegg to begin again.
Multiple gateway arches dot the Digiworld allowing access to Earth. However they only open when the opening on both sides are perfectly aligned. Even then any digimon who passes through will only be a barely visible ghost like being in the real world. These “Wild Gates” also send the user to a random gate on Earth while the Royal Gate can select their destination manually.
There are two methods to allow a digimon to fully manifest on Earth. The first is to “consume a human” which many digimon take literally when it truly means to add DNA to their data. The second is to absorb a large amount of Core Code.

The leader was a boy who who endured numerous trials by fire whose partner was a Coronamon who became Firamon then Flaremon and finally Apollomon. A girl whose heart was as big as the sea had an Otamamon as a partner who became Dolphmon and then Whamon and finally IsleWhamon (KingWhamon). A boy so joyful his laugh could shake the very earth had a Gotsumon partner who turned into Golemon and then Gogamamon and finally Blastmon. A girl whose creativity kept her mind in the clouds whose partner Hyokomon became Buraimon and then Butenmon and finally Eaglemon. After the battle the fates of the other Digidestined are unknown. Some believe they returned home to bury and mourn their fallen friend. Allies
Ron Jones- 46- The mind behind the Unity project he hoped it would bring humanity and Digimon together in harmony. However during the first test Unity Digivolution with his partner Veedramon the stress on his body nearly killed him due to an unknown health issue. Afterwards he continued to keep tabs on the Digiworld hoping a day would come when humanity would be ready to learn the truth. Not long ago He discovered Dr Matthew’s plans and set to work to sabotage his schemes including orchestrating the events of the accident that sent the teens to the Digiworld. Through Veedramon he advised the teens and guided them in the right direction when needed. After the Digidestined are betrayed by Victormon and lead into Travis’s trap Ron has no choice but to Unity Digivolve with Veemon into Ex-Veemon to rescue them. As Ex-Veemon he brings them to his mansion where he opens a portal and brings their partners into the real world. At this point he defuses and his condition returns and he nearly collapses before his staff get him medical attention. Once he is stable he explains the truth of the situation and Travis’s true plan. He begs for the teens to forgive him for his role in sending them to the digital world and to his shock they do and agree to help protect both worlds. The Digidestined even dub him their seventh member saying that even though he cannot join in battle he has been helping them this whole time. Not to mention that his goal honors the trait of the fallen Digidestined from the legend. Digivice: Gold/Silver
Veedramon
A kindly traveler Veedramon holds many secrets and hides them beneath a silly persona. When the Digidestined arrive in the Digital World Veedramon guides them both towards Cyber City and towards any areas he knows need help. He also instructs Leomon to teach them how to fight like digimon in order to get the most out of the unity digivolution.
In time his secrets are revealed including his connection to Ron Jones and the fact he has claim to the throne but chose to live among common digimon instead. After the Digidestined return to the real world Victormon makes his move and reveals himself as the villain to the Digital World and in return Veedramon gathers a force of those willing to fight back.
After Zenithmon’s defeat Veedramon takes his rightful place on the throne and begins working towards his dream of a world where humanity and digimon coexist in peace.
When he merges with Ron he becomes Ex-Veemon.
Leomon
An honorable warrior who fights with the ferocity of a beast. Leomon was once one of the Gladiator Bosses but grew disgusted by their mission and stepped down. After this he traveled the digital world advocating that the strong should use their might to protect those weaker than themselves not harass them. His words won over many but also earned him many enemies.
On Veedramon’s orders he sought out the Digidestined and taught them how to fight like digimon. Upon reaching Cyber City he learns from Owlmon how deep the enemy’s reach truly goes and that the king himself is involved.
Upon taking the throne Veedramon names Leomon leader of the Gladiators. Using this chance Leomon renames the group to the Guardians and instructs them to use their strength to protect those weaker to them and help them grow stronger.
SnowAgumon and FlameGabumon
A pair of digimon who follow Leomon and train under him to get strong enough to defend themselves and others. In time they begin to digivolve allowing them to fight alongside Leomon and the Digidestined.

FrozenGreymon: Standing slightly upright it has armor of frozen ice VolcanGarurumon: Hunched over with a burning horn
WinterGreymon: A white and blue Wargreymon with armor and claws of ice MagmaGarurumon: A red and black MetalGarurumon with obsidian as armor
Eventually the pair learn to DNA Digivolve and form Omegamon Temperat. A mighty warrior of frost and flame.
After the crisis the pair join Leomon’s Guardians.
Cranemon, Ushimon , and Marlinmon
A rival delivery company on friendly terms with Condormon, Toromon and Sharkmon. They loved to compete for deliveries and raced to see who could deliver their packages the fastest.
However things took a tragic turn when the two groups along with Theo found a town under attack by the Gladiators. As Theo unity digivolved with his partners the others digivolved to Hurricranemon, Bulldermon, and Swordfishmon. However even all of them together were no match for the brutes. The three bravely stayed behind to buy Theo and his partners time to get as many civilians to safety.
After their deletion the trio’s Core Code was collected and months later when Travis needed an edge against the Digidestined he combined their code to create a Cybermon version of Tribeastmon.
After a fierce battle the original Tribeastmon reluctantly deleted the imitation permanently deleting their data.
Bardmon
A Koemon variant that carries a lute. After Drake saves his life he accompanies him and sticks by his side even after the group reaches Cyber City. He sings songs telling digital world myth and legend and writes songs about the digidestined. He prefers not to fight but if he must he can digivolve into Targetmon and then Etemon to help.
After Zenithmon’s defeat Veedramon appoints Bardmon as the royal bard.
Wizardmon, Sorcermon, Witchmon and Magemon Teachers of the mystic arts who each specialize in different elements. Wizardmon focuses on flame and earth, Sorcermon focuses on light and ice, Witchmon focuses on wind and water, Magemon focuses on darkness and lightning.
They eventually join Veedramon’s group as Mistymon, Wisemon, Bastemon and Doumon.
Owlmon A wise and kind digimon who loves to learn. As royal librarian she’s noticed that Victormon isn’t the benevolent ruler they seem and give the Digidestined as well as Leomon clues to lead them in the right path. She even discovers the stolen Digieggs. Upon Victormon’s betrayal Owlmon protects the partner digimon and safeguards them until Veedramon can arrange for them to be reunited with their partners. Upon taking the throne Veedramon names Owlmon his royal advisor in recognition of her wisdom. Plesiomon A kind and gentle giant of the sea who helps the cartographers when they need to map the oceans of the digital world. They assist the Digidestined in reaching a remote island to protect the village there from the Gladiators. Petermon and Kazemon
A mischievous trickster who mistakes Riley for his missing friend Tinkermon under a curse and attempts to “save her” however it turns out Tinkermon had digivolved into Kazemon. As the threat of the Gladiators grows more dire the pair open their forest up to any seeking shelter having digivolved into CaptainHookmon and JetSilphymon. After the crisis the pair join Leomon’s Guardians.
Dokugumon/Archnemon
A recluse who reluctantly allows the Digidestined to use her tunnel network to evacuate a group of villages in the Gladiator’s warpath. Inspired by the Digidestined the villagers begin to train and digivolve with many reaching champion or even ultimate. Dokugumon herself digivolves to Arachnemon before returning to lead the villagers in saving Veedramon’s group from a Gladiator ambush. After the crisis she joins Leomon’s Guardians.
HolyAngemon, Angewomon, Darcmon and MagnaAngemon
A group of holy digimon who rescue the Digidestined from a horde of Devidramon. HolyAngemon and Angewomon are peaceful healers while Darcmon and MagnaAngemon are powerful warriors. The two pairs often disagree on methods but all agree that life must be protected. They later join Veedramon’s group having digivoved to Dominimon, LovelyAngemon, Ophanimon and Seraphimon respectively. After the crisis they join Leomon’s Guardians.
Beelzebumon and BeelStarmon
Twin representatives of the Viral Council, a group of high ranking virus digimon who agree that Veedramon’s rule would be best for all digimon and that the threat of the Gladiators must be stopped. The twins were sent as representatives to aid Veedramon’s group to this end. After the crisis they join Leomon’s Guardians to insure that virus type digimon are protected.
The original Digidestined After Travis’s defeat the original Digidestined reach out to the current group and they meet at Ron’s mansion. They reveal their names and what they’ve been up to since their adventures.
Taylor, the original Digidestined of Endurance, became a famous celebrity chef with a series of restaurants world wide.
Mary, the original Digidestined of Heart, became a marine biologist and pushed for stricter laws against polluting in the ocean.
Josh, the original Digidestined of Joy, became a physical therapist and takes great joy in helping people.
Sarah, the original Digidestined of Creativity, became a pilot and actually flew the group to Ron’s mansion.
Issac, the original Digidestined of Mind, wrote a series of fantasy novels called Mystical Adventures about their adventures altering them with a fantasy angle. So the digital world was a kingdom of magic, the partner digimon were elemental familiars and the digivices were pendants of power.
Mindy, the original Digidestined of Dreams, went on to create perfumes and now runs a perfume business nationwide.
Luke, the original Digidestined of Unity, did indeed perish in the final battle. In order to avoid looking insane the others made up a story about running away from home to go on a great adventure and that Luke died saving some of them from a flash flood. This way he was still remembered as a hero.
The group agrees to help the current Digidestined in their mission to unite the worlds and keep peace on both sides. However they make it clear their days in combat are long behind them and instead will help Ron with the background details.
Enemies
Travis Wilson- 45- The head of Cyber Zenith and cause of the chaos in the digital world. His plan was to have the Gladiators delete weak digimon and using a special program to redirect the digieggs to Victormon’s palace where they are transferred to another server where he can reprogram and modify their data making them strong and obedient to him. He plans on selling his Cybermon to the highest bidders and as well as forming a small army. He views Digimon as nothing but pale imitations of life, weapons and tools, nothing more. Daisuke’s characterization in V-Tamer is actually out of character
This is a post rather different from the usual content I do for this blog, and to be honest, I’m a bit hesitant about it, since it’s hard not to make it sound like some kind of scathingly critical negativity about the relevant chapter. It’s not intended that way -- V-Tamer’s crossover chapter with 02 lies firmly in “Bandai-commissioned spinoff” territory with what was most likely very little input from the anime staff, and with these kinds of things, right hand very rarely talks to left hand, and you see it in things like Tag Tamers having major contradictions with the anime despite how ostensibly important it is to 02′s story. Izawa and Yabuno were busy with V-Tamer production, and it’s very likely Toei and Bandai only provided them with very scant details of 02′s base premise (especially since the chapter itself doesn’t refer to any major 02 plot details besides XV-mon’s and Magnamon’s existence). I really do not blame them for not necessarily having thorough awareness of Daisuke and his character arc (especially since he himself is a rather deceptive character), and having to make a lot of assumptions while writing.
In the end, I decided to write this due to personal request from an acquaintance, who pointed out that there are a lot of people out there who like to claim things like "Daisuke got more character development in this single chapter than he did in 02 itself” (which is another manifestation of the constantly repeated fanbase mantra that Daisuke was lacking in that department when he really wasn’t). The thing is, this chapter’s interpretation of Daisuke is so far removed from the character he was even at the start of 02 that this “development” only works by artificially engineering a conflict that shouldn’t have even happened with Daisuke in the first place.
Again: This is not something meant to criticize this chapter as something bad (personally, I do think it’s rather entertaining in its own way) as much as, simply, out of character is still out of character, and I'm mainly just writing this in the hopes of making a case that this version of Daisuke should not be reflected back on the original series.
(Screenshots below are from the DH translation of V-Tamer, and PositronCannon’s 02 subs.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The issue here is that the whole plot of the chapter itself is based on the idea that Daisuke is the kind of person who likes fighting for the sake of fighting, and has an impulsive urge to charge in aggressively to the point of even looking down on his friends for denying him. Certainly, on the surface, it does seem to match up with Daisuke still having difficulties adjusting to these new kids being his friends at the beginning of the series, and generally having an abrasive, rough-around-the-edges personality, but...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah.
The above screenshots are from 02 episode 7, which is a very early episode -- one that clearly takes place before Magnamon’s appearances in Hurricane Touchdown and 02 episode 20-21, and XV-mon’s appearance in 02 episode 22 -- and one that’s still part of Daisuke’s early bout of “shallow” episodes, in which he’s still instinctively lashing out at Takeru due to his perception of having something going on with Hikari. And while he does initially lash out at them for wanting to turn back, the moment everyone else makes a good case for them turning back (especially when their own Digimon run out of energy), he -- rather easily -- grits his teeth and actually calls the retreat himself.
On top of the fact that Daisuke is very capable of pulling back when he practically understands it’s necessary (even if he hates it), some important points need to be made about his behavior here: Daisuke does not push forward on fighting because he likes fighting and attacking things, but because he practically wants to see the Dark Tower destroyed (and the Dark Tower is causing problems for everyone everywhere right now). He hates the Kaiser, and wants to fight everyone under him, because he’s hurting others. Only one episode later, Daisuke vocalizes that he’s even okay with losing a soccer game as long as he gets to play someone who’s inspired kids all over the country and enjoy the match.
The other problem is that it actually implies that Daisuke would be able to do anything without his friends’ approval. Despite Daisuke’s ostensibly rough surface demeanor, he gets strung along easily. It is absurdly easy to shut him down or override his opinions just by being assertive enough. There’s a very good reason why he’s been described as “prevented from doing much in the first half”. Daisuke spends the first half of the series largely unable to make his own decisions because his friends keep making them for him, and part of his character development involves him becoming able to actually put his foot down and do what he wants when it’s something he cares about, which is something that very much does not set in until the second half.
In addition, the implication that Daisuke would be actively belligerent to the point of having the priority of “destroying enemies” instead of “helping others” is very contrary to the whole point of his character arc:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 02 episode 20, the first time Daisuke does truly put his foot down against the wishes of the others in the group, it’s because seeing Chimeramon destroy so many things hurt him that badly that he hates sitting around and doing nothing. Again: Daisuke is a person who does things because he cares about and wants to protect others, not because he necessarily likes fighting. It’s also important that he makes this statement that he’ll go in “even alone” -- he does not look down on the others or show distaste for them for choosing to recuse, because they’re understandably exhausted, but simply says that he’s frustrated at the idea of giving up this one chance, and doesn’t want to squander it. (It’s also consistent with the way he treats the mortified Ken in 02 episode 48 -- he reminds him that Jogress won’t work if Ken’s not feeling up to it, and says that he’ll do it alone if he has to because something has to be done.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And speaking of Ken, this trait of Daisuke’s is why that whole character arc of him reaching out to Ken works in the first place! Because, again, Daisuke hated the Kaiser because he was doing horrible things. The moment the Kaiser stopped doing horrible things, Daisuke didn’t feel up to kicking him while he was down, actually urged him to do the first thing he could do to make amends -- “go home” -- and ultimately chose to reach out to him because he thinks in terms of moving on and creating positive things, not for destruction for the sake of destruction. Because Ken seemed to not be hurting anyone anymore, and he’s actually doing something to help, so why not believe in him and let him help?
Again: with the exception of episode 48 (which is just reinforcing something from before), all of these episodes are before XV-mon’s first appearance in 02 episode 22. Daisuke had always been this kind of positive and supportive person from day one; those traits had just not been very easily visible because he was still trying to deal with his initial awkwardness and being rather rough around the edges, but they’re still traits he’d always fundamentally had.
Tumblr media
The chapter continues with Daisuke actually looking down on his other friends and protesting angrily against them trying to pull him back. Beyond the fact that (as stated above) the anime’s portrayal of Daisuke would make him very unwilling to fight back against opposition at this point of the series, the idea he’d actually be condescending about his friends is a little...hmm. Because, again, in 02 episode 7:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daisuke does momentarily lash out at Iori and Takeru in a moment of emotional compromise when he’s stressed over Hikari getting trapped in the Digital World, but he actually takes it back. Incredibly quickly. He apologizes to Iori, and decides to not let Takeru put the blame on himself, even though his emotionally-compromised moment had initially gotten him to instinctively try to pin it on him. (Which is important because, yes, even when Daisuke’s inclined to lash out at Takeru for his perceived existing relationship with Hikari and be jealous of him, he still cares about Takeru himself to the point he doesn’t want him to load himself with the guilt.)
Daisuke’s brashness is portrayed during this early part of 02 as him very, very badly needing validation. This means that going out of his way to push aside the people he calls friends would be the last thing he wants to do, because he actually wants their approval, and for them to like him, and therefore he’s willing to apologize quickly and try to make amends because he plays badly with actual confrontation.
Tumblr media
While this line isn’t quite off, it does rather clash with the way Daisuke actually portrays himself, which is that he doesn’t really have this much of an ego. The literal translation of this line is that he calls himself “your cute little junior”, but even the more liberal translation used here doesn’t quite work with Daisuke’s character, since it’s not implied at any point that Daisuke thinks Taichi actually cares about him back the way he adores Taichi.
Again, Daisuke is an extremely deferential person who craves validation, and this is especially in the case of Taichi, who arguably is the one who creates the easiest mood shift in Daisuke for the early parts of the series. Whenever Taichi is nearby, Daisuke immediately becomes deferential and respects literally everything he does.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Observe Daisuke’s very resigned and very deferential facial expressions and attitude in 02 episodes 8 and 10, whenever it comes to Taichi (and note that the third screenshot here also comes from a situation where Daisuke wanted to advocate for pushing forward instead of retreating; it was that easy for Taichi to shut him down). For all it’s worth, Daisuke’s never really shown to have a lot of pride in himself (beyond the occasional joke), and it’s heavily implied that he sees Taichi as so amazing that he’s not even remotely in his league. That’s why it’s such a big deal that Daisuke puts his foot down and protests against what Taichi wants them to do in 02 episode 39, and it’s not even rudely or aggressively (he still uses polite Japanese!) as much as just firmly “I have a friend and I need to help him, I’m sorry.”
Tumblr media
During the chapter, Daisuke claims that he doesn’t want to go back and meet his friends, because he doesn’t think they care about him, but, well, again: Daisuke is someone who craves approval. It’s somewhat understandable that he’d maybe have some degree of insecurity that they don’t like him as much as he wants them to, but the series by this point (remember, we’re talking episode 22, given XV-mon’s appearance) makes it very clear that Daisuke is well aware that his friends like him this much, and he has no real grudges against them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is one of the reasons it’s so important that 02 had so many scenes of the kids just...bantering in the computer room, or having tons of “free time off hours” that had nothing to do with Digimon fights, because although Daisuke is brash and rough around the edges, otherwise, the group of friends here get along perfectly fine. Once the stress of fighting is removed, these kids are part of each others’ social circle and love hanging out for the sake of hanging out, and even someone as dense as Daisuke should know very well that they do at least like him this much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, more importantly, whatever Daisuke might think about what his friends think of him, he himself likes them a lot. He cares about them a lot. Even all the way back in 02 episode 10 and 11, with Miyako and Takeru (whom he ostensibly banters and gets touchy with a lot), he still makes it clear he likes what Miyako’s doing and wants to check on her (without prompting), and later, when he gets in a fight with Takeru, he blames himself for not understanding Takeru’s feelings instead of feeling inclined to blame it on him. (In fact, this so-called hostility with Takeru is really overblown here, because there’s no reason Daisuke should think everyone takes Takeru’s side; when they did get in a fight in 02 episode 11, everyone was more concerned about getting them to calm down than they were about taking sides, because both of them did have a very reasonable position.)
Tumblr media
And while Daisuke getting set off by the Takeru and Hikari issue might have been in-character at one point, it’s not for him at this point in the series, because 02 episode 22, the very episode that introduces XV-mon, has him take a completely different view of the situation:
Tumblr media
Daisuke had already gotten over a lot of it by this point. The last time he shows any indication of Takeru and Hikari having ~something going on~ to the point he suspects Takeru of being an obstacle is all the way back in episode 17, which oh-so-coincidentally happens to be the same episode where he later learns about the truth of his seniors’ great adventure in 1999, and therefore receives the full context of why Takeru and Hikari knew each other beforehand (which they had been absolutely terrible at elucidating for 17 episodes). By the time we get to this epsode, Daisuke does not hold anything against Takeru himself, and he doesn’t even accuse them of having a thing, just moping that they “get along so well”. He’s not angry about it, he’s sad about it, and it’s heavily implied that he’s really just sad about being third-wheeled more than anything.
It’s also important to realize that this is long past the point where Daisuke would have shown any outright hostility towards Takeru at all. At worst, he maybe scoffs “do whatever you want!”, or ends up a little sad that they’re leaving him out, but he ends up putting this on himself more than he ever lashes out at others about it anymore. The grudge against Takeru had already gone long under the bridge, by this point Takeru is just a friend that he likes reasonably well and is sad to be third wheeled by, and it’s only 13 more episodes before he’ll stop bringing his crush on Hikari into the issue for the rest of the series.
Tumblr media
And, remember, Daisuke has always been someone who does things “because other people are being hurt”. He’s not actually that selfish! Whenever people are really in trouble, he goes in to help them -- remember, back in 02 episode 8, he was crushed because Ken turned out to be the Kaiser, and someone indirectly trampling on the dreams of all the soccer-playing kids in the country. Had this been Daisuke from the anime, he probably would have immediately wanted to go back the moment he realized there are people in need and hurt left behind, regardless of his own feelings on his relationship with his friends.
Tumblr media
The rest of the chapter is fairly on-the-nose, with Daisuke managing to create a “miracle” through the power of his feelings by remembering what it meant for Taichi to give him his goggles, and for managing to connect to his friends despite them being trapped, with Daisuke and Taichi eventually parting on good terms and Daisuke even getting the honor of doing the victory dance with him. This is why I want to emphasize (I’ll say this in bold) that I do not think this is a “bad” chapter just because it’s not compliant with Daisuke’s anime characterization. Given what the chapter sets out to accomplish, setting up a story of someone who feels neglected by his friends and eventually decides to reach out to them with his own feelings, it’s thematically solid and well-plotted out as a story, and the crossover and thought experiment of how Daisuke would react to an alternate version of Taichi is very entertaining. Plus, Izawa’s writing and Yabuno’s art is charming, and it’s lovely to see the 02 kids in this style.
It’s just, well, the entire premise of this chapter relies on a conflict generated by Daisuke being a character he is very much not. And, again, it’s not something that I can really criticize Izawa and Yabuno for; Daisuke’s quite the deceptive character, and it really doesn’t seem like Toei and Bandai gave them a lot to work with, especially since this chapter only works within a very narrow range of 02′s timeline, between 02 episodes 22 and 25, when V-mon can evolve to Adult but Ken hasn’t formally joined the team yet. (And in fact, I’d generally apply this sort of caveat to things relevant to Daisuke that come from the Bandai side instead of Toei side; too many things out there seem to only really be working with the base details of “Taichi’s junior who has a crush on Hikari” with no regard to the actual nuances of his character.) Personally, it seems that Izawa and Yabuno did their best with what they had to work with, and they even made it a fun chapter while they were at it! -- so I would simply say that it’s probably best to enjoy this chapter without thinking about the lack of canon compliance too hard, but also not to judge the actual anime version of Daisuke too much by this portrayal.

So, my brain just put two and two together to realize the perfect mega for Nahabino is UlforceVeedramon so I’m backpedaling to find a different mega for Flynn’s Veemon. Unless I change his partner dear God...I just realized how narrow the amount of megas that work for both Veemon and Flynn are that I also haven’t already used. I ruled out Dynasmon, Alphamon, Slayerdramon, and Leopardmon because I have already used them. In the worst case scenario if I change his partner what do you think I should change it too? I have always had in mind for his dark Digivolution to be Machinedramon and his natural one being a humanoid mega.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Me after going completely insane trying to find another mega. Even Flynn’s confused. PLEASE VOTE FOR WHICH MEGA IS BEST THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE AU!!!
Edit: Okay I narrowed it down drastically for consistency’s sake. And so I don’t have to redo the any of the previous Digivolutions.
Tumblr media
Durandamon: Stays vaccine and has the neutral element from Veemon. It’s gold could be a reference to the digiegg of Miracles and Magnamon. Is a sword!!!
Alphamon: Also vaccine it’s colors match Vishnu-Flynn. Uses a sword.
Slayerdramon: Vaccine. The natural Digimon for Wingdramon so naturally it fits as a possible evolution from it. Also uses a sword.
PLS VOTE!!!

also I know my url is “magnamon” now but for the record this is the line for my digimon partner:
datirimon -> budmon -> floramon -> parasaurmon -> toropiamon -> lotusmon -> rafflesimon
my “edgy” dark digivolution would be parasaurmon -> entmon. and if i biomerged with floramon we would become bloomlordmon.
i spent a long time thinking about this while i was inebriated crying on the floor thinking about how much I love digimon.

Psi episode 32 reaction let’s gooo
(And for the record I do go on a long ass tangent at the very end, discussing alternative evolution trees and speculating on crap, so if you wanted to see more from me than just screaming in caps lock about nonsense THEN YA GOT THAT HERE!)
(And yeah the speculation is LONG)
Giff me the hoarse Toei つ( ◕_◕)つ
OOO the babbies arE RUNNING AWAY FROM FANGMON!! BASTARD GOTH WOLF!!
EVOLUTION?? SURELY NOT
Did Patamon just poop
I love Megumi Han so much...... I love you.....
HERE’S THE DOGGOMON (Confession, I honestly kinda hate the term “doggo”, like there’s nothing wrong with it but it just makes me so annoyed for NO reason when I heard that word. That said, these Digimon are like, Peak Doggo for me. If you asked me to explain what a “doggo” looks like, these guys are what I’d describe) (And no, I don’t remember what these Dogs were called anymore, I forgot and can’t be bothered to look it up)
GOOO TOGEMON, KICK GOLEMON’S ASS
I love that the Gotsumon are just cheering on this boxing event
STOP HARASSING JYOU WHILE HE’S TRYING TO BATHE FOR FUCK’S SAKE
ALSO HOW IS HE STILL BATHING, IT’S BEEN AT LEAST 30 MINUTES SINCE THE LAST EPISODE IF NOT LONGER
Patamon and Lopmon are so cute, fuck
Oh god Angemon looks so fucked up, oh god, it hurts my heart
Patamon is so fucked up and tired oh god nnnooo ;__;
Seriously tho, Megumi Han’s Takeru sounds so precious that everytime Takeru speaks up I take 1000 points of cute damage
Tumblr media
I can’t handle it, her voice is so precious
Delighted by how unbothered the doggomon is by the weight of Greymon on their back
WHOMST
OH IT’S THAT FUCKER WHOSE NAME I FORGOT
CERBERUMON! AND IT’S HUGE, HOLY FUCK
Like maaan, Cerberumon is huge (/MetalGreymon has shrunk since they first appeared)
OH FUCK Patamon was like Black Seraphimon for a while?? Oh fuck, man, yeah, fuck yeah (I wonder, if we see Black Seraphimon in Psi, will they use the Frontier!Mercuremon version or the goth version that appeared in one game? Y’all know I love Frontier and Mercuremon but I feel like that version of Black Seraphimon is super Frontier-specific so I would prefer if they used the game version)
LET’S GO, EVOLVE INTO THE HOARSE!! つ( ◕_◕)つ
YYEEEAAAHHH
PEGASMON!!
Tumblr media
Now the implications this has for Armor Level, Digimentals, 02-Content and Alternate Evolution trees- yeah there’s a lot here, so many questions--
OH GARUDAMON SLAMMING ONTO CERBERUMON’S HEAD WAS SEXY
Man, Pegasmon is pretty... Always loved Pegasmon (and Nefertimon), they have such cool designs yo
Oh the episode just ends there, huh
Okay next episode preview (I know Tailmon finally shows up because, y’know, DigiTwitter keeps on giving us new LOVELY art and I don’t wanna unfollow because I like the art, even if it’s spoilers)
Ko-Komondo have EIGHT legs?! Spider dogs....
Aaand nothing of value showed up in this preview- the Twitter did share some extra screenshots though, including this one which made me laugh outloud
Tumblr media
Hikari has the exact opposite energy of the Obama “then perish” meme and that’s fucking hysterical to me
(Also the Twitter art did seem to confirm to me that SkullKnightmon is Tailmon)
Anyways, yeah, uh so.
What does this mean for DigiMentals in Psi’s DW? And Armor-Level?
I mean I guess most of those questions would be answered with some data from the next episode’s Encyclopedia entry but I’m an episode behind so I MUST WAIT I GUESS. That said, yeah, I will be interested if they’ll classify Armor as its own level as it’s usually considdered or if Pegasmon will be classified as an Adult-
If the latter happened then I don’t think Digimentals would even exist within this Digital World/continuity, and “Armor” Digimon would probably mostly all be just Adult level Digimon (with maybe some exceptions like Magnamon?). But if Pegasmon is still Armor, well, we shall find out eventually
That aside... When we first went into Psi, the one thing I was hoping to see arguably the most was branching evolution trees (in the same vein Zero Two had with the Digimentals in the first arc) and utilizing those alternative forms for different situations etc. And so far it has really felt like Psi wouldn’t do that all, instead sticking to the familiar evolutions we already knew and loved (except for Ofanimon because Psi says Ofanimon Rights) (OR DO THEY)
BUT THEN WE GOT THIS
Now, since Patamon’s alternative evolution here was caused by Patamon being weakened by the damage from the dark powers, so it’s likely that we won’t see all the Digimon get alternative evolutions (Agumon’s Mugendramon not included, esp. ‘cause there’s no quarantee we’ll see Agumon evolve to Mugen again (though Mille is in this story so I would be kinda shocked if we didn’t see Mugen come back but this is a whole different tangent)).
Like, by these soft rules Psi has just set for us, unless the Digimon all got drenched in Darkness and weakened by that, so much so they couldn’t evolve to other forms, then I don’t think we’ll see alternative evolution trees for them    UNLESS THEY’RE ALREADY WEAKENED and just need to be re-powered up so that they could evolve into more powerful Adult/Perfect forms! :O Though this does seem unlikely since Psi has been building up the Warrior 6 (WarGreymon and co), so unless they decided that the OG Warrior 6 wasn’t The Solution to the Milleniummon Problem and wanted to have the Digimon evolve to 6 other Ultimates instead, yeah, this whole scenario seems unlikely to me.
If Psi will be 66 episodes like we originally heard rumors of, then we are basically half-way through the series now. And my constant “worry” with this series has been how they threw all the Adult and Perfect forms at us so fast within the first 20-or-so episodes. Now indeed, we have only seen one Ultimate, we don’t have Tailmon in the party (as of episode 32, IDK how exactly she’s introduced in episode 33), and Patamon can barely evolve to Adult(?) now. So we do have at least nine evolutions to go, to get everyone to Ultimate.
Like, IDK man. To be fair, aside from HolyAngemon, Adventure had given us all the evolutions they had to offer by the end of episode 38, but also that series was also 12 episodes shorter than what Psi’s supposed to be.
Like... what I’m trying to get at is that Adventure for the most part spaced out the new forms pretty nicely to give us new evolutions to get excited about but not throwing them at us too fast (at least with the Perfects, the Devimon arc was kind of an exception). But Psi’s philosophy has been kind of different, throwing the new Digimon at us at a super high speed for the first arc or so... I’m trying to put together in my mind how plausible alternative evolution trees could be at this point in the story, with 33 episodes left?    Because either they are going to treat the remaining unseen evolutions kinda like Holy Angemon was in Adventure, or we could possibly see alternative evolutions to fill out the remaining episodes now that Pegasmon has proven alternative evolution trees plausible?
I dunno man, I have NO idea where Psi is fucking going
I am super interested in seeing how they’ll treat Patamon’s evolutions from here on out though- like will Pegasmon just be a temporary Adult form for Patamon so he can evolve to something but will regain his ability to evolve to Angemon -> HolyAngemon ->Seraphimon later on? Or will Pegasmon get its own evolution line? IDK what the Perfect could be but Ultimate could be Goddramon, right?
I am pointing this out because. Y’know.
Psi has been showing us Ofanimon in the flashbacks so far.
But we’ve only ever seen Tailmon evolve to Holydramon (Ofanimon: Falldown Mode not included).
And if Tailmon’s gone through what Patamon went through but had a more severe case (which is what “SkullKnightmon is actually Tailmon” would seem to imply to me), it does beg the question; if Patamon can’t evolve back to Seraphimon anymore, will Tailmon be able to evolve to Ofanimon either?
Will Psi actually just taunt me with Ofanimon Rights, only to give us Holydramon at the last second? Is that what they will do?
I GUESS WE’LL FIND OUT
WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING PSI

Final 5 episodes of the Kaiser arc is like this:
**Episode 17: Wizarmon's Ghost.
**Episodes 18-19: First attempt at Kaiser's base.
**Episodes 20-21: Magnamon episodes.
****
Compared to the first arcs of both Adventure, and Tamers, which both lasted about 13 episodes, the Kaiser arc lasts for 21 episodes, making it very long.
Next arc will focus on the regular Adult/Champion evolutions, and Jogresses, which means the slow pace will not change.
Any possible future reboot will likely make this closer to those two introductory arcs, or have a new end goal for Kaiser about reviving Millenniumon, with another half focusing on creating Mugendramon.
Much like the Dark Signers arc, since this arc is the most cohesive, and longest one, it is the one that is most remembered. We will discuss the later ones soon.
Once Ken joins the cast, many elements established here will either not be properly utilised (Dark Ocean etc.), or ignored (Takeru-Daisuke relationship will be replaced with Ken-Daisuke one, despite being prominent in the final episodes of this arc, for example).
Again if there is a future 02 reboot, there will probably be more emphasis on the lesser relationships within the cast, if only to promote more Jogresses.
Digimental of Kindness is not showcased in the series proper, but has a canonical design.

Game Journal: Tag Tamers - Entry #04
Tumblr media
Previously: I learned how to use jogress, beat up a fan-favorite twice in different evolution stages and told Ryo to do the same
Now: Further beating up of the fan-favorite, realizing I have yet to master jogress (despite hours dedicated to it) and storming the edgelord chimera’s continent (who’s apparently very sensitive and wants Ryo to open up his heart).
Special thanks to Ajora Fravashi for translating the game, and to NikcCD from Romhacking net for making it into a playable patch.
Tumblr media
So, after defeating BlackWargreymon in the Machine Continent with Ken, I used the Reload Machine to change back to Ryo. Figuring out that’d I’d need to fuse digimon a couple times much like last time, I formed my first team for this area: V-mon, Armadimon and Centalmon. I figured I’d use the first dungeon of the area to keep levelling up my V-mon and evolve my Armadimon. The first of these happened, alright, but the second?
Tumblr media
Meet my Chibimon. Apparently I can only complete so many dungeons with V-mon (around 15) before he resets back to a Baby form and I have to train him again. I initially thought this had been some sort of ability from one of my enemies... but not really. It happened about 3 times before I decided to retire V-mon from my team.
Tumblr media
Oh, and also another one of those frustrating things where I miss one of my enemies buffing their defenses until I’m only doing 1 point of damage per turn happened. Result? A 79-turn battle, when they usually don’t go past 5 turns.
Tumblr media
After a lot of frustration, I finally defeated all 3 dungeons and went face to face with BWG. Look at him, trying to intimidate me. Meeting him was a relief after the nearly invulnerable Monochromon, I tell you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back at town, there’s a couple things I wanted to do. First, though, this Kiwimon’s dialogue is pretty interesting. Apparently Michael, Mimi’s American friend from Adventure 02, was already a Chosen Child at this point in time. It’s good to have a timeline between the 8 Chosen Children from Adventure and the entire international group they were in 02. It’s also further proof that the Chosen Children could move pretty freely between worlds at this point in time.
Tumblr media
I wanted to forge the Digimetals before continuing. The 2 pieces of the Digimental of Darkness I would have to give to Ken to use, but fortunately I had all 3 pieces of the Digimental of Miracles, and you know what that means...
Tumblr media
Oh yes, Magnamon. It’s just an attack for V-mon rather than a proper evolution, but it’s a very powerful attack.
Tumblr media
Anyway, clearing the Machine Continent on both worlds opened up the portal to Millenniummon’s Continent. It’s a path along the top of mountains, far above the clouds. The names of the dungeons? “Styx”, “Misery”, “Dark” and finally “Moon”. They all seem like just good ol’ Millie going though his equivalent of teenage years, but the “Moon” at the end makes me wonder if they may not have a deeper connection to his self-image.
Tumblr media
Enemies in the 4 dungeons progressively increased in power, from groups of 3 powerful Adults to groups of 3 Ultimates. I constantly fought enemies that would put curses on my digimon to kill them after 3 turns, regardless of the damage inflicted. Enemies that called help from other, more powerful digimon, so I was basically fighting 4 enemies instead of 3. Worst of all, SkullSatamon, who self-destructed early on every fight that included him and forced me to keep reviving my digimon.
Tumblr media
Due to the constantly increasing difficulty, I decided to take a break from the main story and just grind until I got a team with Perfect levels. Oh boy, I grinded a lot, jogressed a lot of digimon, both of different types and of the same type. V-mon devolved the previously mentioned 3 times and I finally retired him. Got even more Digimentals (though none of the interesting non-anime ones). Fought teams of 3 Ultimate digimon when going back to play the earlier portions of the game. Ultimately, after hours of grinding, I failed at getting any Perfect-level digimon, but did make my Aquilamon and Centalmon more powerful, as well as got a very strong Revolmon, pictured above.

Pictured above, the final dungeon, as well as the utter fear of one of my Betamon allies inside it. You gotta wonder why they’re there at all, but I’m not going to complain that a non-partner digimon is actually trying to help.

Millenniummon, as seen above, is the only enemy in the game so far to exceed 1000 HP. Fortunately, neither him not his allies had particularly tricky skills, just a lot of power, so after using plenty of healing items, I managed to defeat all 3.

The fused chimera leaves, but not before speaking to Ryo. It’s interesting to see him speaking about his heart, when previously he has been just a random brute, if a more powerful one than usual. As little dialogue as he has had, it seems to paint some off-screen character development brought about by witnessing Ryo’s actions.

Defeating Millenniummon brings me back to the village, where Piccolomon suggests resting before contacting Ken. A door has appeared in the village, following the fused chimera’s defeat. A locked door.
Next time, Ken’s journey through Millenniummon’s Continent and, hopefully, whatever lays behind that door.
