dannyrusty's hand in unloveable hand thing pairs sooo beautifully with mcdrai's if we go down then we go down together it's just perfect. also the scene in 11 where rusty sees tess and chokes but with leon seeing dylstrome... LIIIKE. also i think the compelling part of isabel and rusty's thing is that (this is my reading of o12's subtext) isabel did think it was a serious thing but also suspected/knew to some extent that rusty was lying (bc she recognises thieves) i just think that's sooo mattleo. OMG ALSO. the tension of rusty dating her bc she's a cop and the team being like wtf why are you betraying us is so parallel to "leon why tf are you dating a flame" in some ways...

leon going to connor after seeing dylan and immediately confronting him about it w the whole ‘tell me its not about him, tell me this isnt about him or i walk and we call this whole thing off’ and connor thinking he can have both and in the movie im pretty sure rusty knows danny’s lying but HE ALSO thinks he can have both (successful heist while danny’s in love w tess) -> connor tells leon that it’s not about dylan that dylan served him divorce papers in prison that he’s had time to be over him and he is he swears (and leon knows that he still carries the ring in his pocket because he’d accidentally picked connor’s trousers off the floor one night) AND mattleo here is sooo like. each of them think they have the upper hand (like u said matthew kinda knows something isnt right w leon) and leon obviously thinks hes getting away w it and initially w them there’s this element of like. im pretending to respect you and im pretending to think youre my peer -> i think im in love with you that’s just so at odds w eachother and maybe connor outright tells him like Man idk if you can date a cop, forgetting that leon’s cut from the same cloth that he is where he truly honestly thinks he can get anything he wants and he wants matthew and he wants to continue doing jobs and he’s going to damn well try

also i think why dannyrusty fits so well w connorleon is that like. if connor and leon were evil they kinda just would be danny and rusty in the sense that connor and leon are trying their damn hardest and everything around them is failing and they’re still trying and they still have hope and everything but danny and rusty are going down together because they’ll blow up the whole world but they’d do it. together ❤️

also also. rusty fucking up and leaving his phone w isabel -> leon barely getting into fights normally but being half the reason boa was so entertaining back in the day. mattleo enemies to lovers WELCOME BACK ‼️

ocean’s twelve au where danny and rusty are bill and richie (like Objectively they simply could not execute crime and heists on the level dannyrusty do But the fact that they constantly communicate without one of them having to even say a Word the fact that everyone follows danny even when it’s really probably not in their best interests to The way rusty literally spends all his time as danny’s second or Pretending To Be Other People including Voices or even doing math Not To Mention how danny is the one the team Loves and Follows but rusty is the one they Trust and Approach) and eddie’s the interpol agent trying to catch bigger fish (The Night Fox) and ends up chasing them down and Oh There’s History with richie? what? interesting...

stan as basher and not just bc he’s the explosives man and stan canonically makes things explode with patty in the bedroom but also bc he’s loyal and pragmatic and realistic and writes LETTERS when reuben’s on his deathbed and also he and rusty are icons; i’m all about hanbrough but i think in this context audra makes sense to be tess and not just bc ocean’s twelve literally has her impersonating an actress but also danny apologises to tess in the first film and audra deserves that from bill; position in the story-wise mike is probably linus in that he’s a later addition to the team whom they end up trusting completely and also has parents who contribute to the success of the squad but also mike has more brain cells so he’s a loose linus who was childhood friends with eddie and is the only one of the denbrough crew that eddie trusts initially (richie is Compliqué); bev is yen probably because he’s the master of fitting into tight spaces but more importantly getting out of them and how she learned it is Terriblé but bev knows how to find the exit; and then ben is probably frank. personality wise he’s linus but frank is loyal and likeable and would do anything for those he cares for, and risks capture to do his part of the job to save his friends (also iirc he and rusty were in particular danger of being caught by eddie interpol bc they’d pulled a job there before which is absolutely trashstack rights that they both did that together and also that he Knows about richie’s situation w eddie)

anyway eddie ends up in the heist too ofc (this movie is a Mess but it has fun being a riff on capers rather than a caper itself and i personally enjoy the chaos of that energy for the losers) but the absolute banter and shared-history-turned-into-art-thief-and-secret-agent of it all comes first
