Dannymay 2023 Prompt Poll

Believe it or not, it is time to start polling for the Dannymay 2023 calendar!

For those who don't know, Dannymay is a spin-off from the longstanding Phanniemay prompt challenge where artists, writers, and creatives alike try to challenge themselves to complete as many prompts in May as they can. Whether you just complete one day or the whole calendar, that is up to you!

Everything's Fine (And the Boss is Totally Not a Cryptid) - Outsider POV, intern gets hired at Vlad Co., shenanigans ensue. Oh so many Dracula references. H(a)unted - Weird, angsty little Ghost Hunter Danny AU. Separate Danny and Phantom. ALT ending. I have some ideas percolating to continue off the alternate ending. The Hazards of Being Hot High AF - Shippy Popular Psychology (Jazz/Dash) oneshot I found in my fics folder. Jazz visits Dash in the hospital after a football injury. Elementary, My Dear Fenton - Ecto-Implosion fic. A goofy comedy-mystery where Danny and the trio try to track down who left an anonymous gift in his locker. They get WAY too into it.

WIPs:

Not So Bitter Reunions - AU, canon divergence, badger cereal. The college reunion goes decidedly less off the rails than in canon, leading to some nefarious consequences. I'm just kind of vibing with this one. High School's a Beach - **AGIT SPOILERS** Dan's in high school. This one is so very unserious, but I think I've got a few more chapters left in me. Needs Must (When the Devil Drives) - Canon divergence. AU. Vlad and Harriet reconnect at the college reunion, but since Vlad's technically an evil spirit, he's adversely impacted by things like salt, windchimes, running water, etc. Bad News (Vlad/Harriet) shipfic. I just...I think they're neat. Bearer of Bad News - Post Phantom Planet (not AGIT compliant). Bad News fic because I have an illness and these two live in my head rent free. The GIW enlist Harriet's help in preventing Ghost King Danny from destroying the earth.

Drabbles/Ficlets:

DannyMay 2022 - I don't remember any of these being particularly good, but they do exist. I very much did not last the entire month. Drabble Dump from Tumblr asks - this is just what it sounds like. Though, in general, I'll probably start trying to post oneshots and/or collect the separate, individual Tumblr ask ficlets on this post now instead of just clumping them in a drabble dump on ao3. Monsters Don't Exist - horror vibes. AU. Vlad didn't peace out after the accident and he's keeping his enemies (Maddie and Jack) close. Jazz suspects their babysitter, Uncle Vlad, is more dangerous than everyone else in the family seems to think. Cheese Melt ficlet - Outsider POV. Dani has a parent-teacher interview. Cheese Melt ficlet #2 - Dani doesn't like the toy she got at Nasty Burger. Vlad gets her a new one. Badger cereal ficlet - No one knows AU. Danny works as a cashier and Vlad accidentally outs his supervillain indetity by infodumping to him when Danny makes idle customer-servicey smalltalk.

1. How many works do you have on Ao3?

Thirty-six as of now! Most of them are still from events (I put all the filled prompts in one work per event, don’t @ me), but when I really like one of these I post it as a stand-alone :) and I have a few fics outside events too! Woo!

2. What's your total Ao3 word count?

132,746 as of right now, but I’ll still finish Ectober so that’ll change quickly. (and as I said before, some fics I post "twice", in the event's work, and as a stand-alone)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Danny Phantom almost exclusively, the exception are the CrossOvers :p

I love The Sandman and Supernatural ones. I’m into DPxDC as well.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Seven Ways to Summon the Ghost King (1,187 kudos): Seven different ways in which a tired, stressed and sleep-deprived King of Ghosts can be summoned!

Holiday Gift 2022 (439 kudos): ALL ghosts need to honour the truce. Including those who don't know they're considered part ghost.

Poison Blood and Weighted Crowns (408 kudos): The Justice League asked for help to the Ghost King.

The King demanded Jason Todd in exchange.

YUP. Sometimes I forget and only see it years later tho. But I do like answering comments so I try my best! If I don’t answer is ‘cause I can’t think of anything else to say but I still try! (I don’t really answer in FFN anymore tho, because I forget if I’ve already answered and I don’t remember how to check that, and I don’t want to accidentally answer twice lmao)

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Uhh… not a big fan of angst, and even though I tried my hand at it in the past don’t remember where I put it anymore

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Dragon :') Danny gets dental! (lol ok, I can’t really tell, idk)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

My fics ain’t popular enough to get hate I believe lol.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

LOL. I WROTE LEMON ONCE. YEARS AND YEARS AGO (almost ten year now. I was fourteen). After that, I haven’t, but I have an idea for a fic and if I actually get to write it I know it would be explicit.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

asdfghjjklñ I fucking love CrossOvers so much. I’ve written some "niche" ones but I believe the craziest/crackiest was Doors :))

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

None that I know of. (Again, not popular enough lol)

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Other than ramble with the discord buddies, nope I haven’t.

13. What's your all-time favourite ship?

None tbh, I do like some ships but I’m aro and I don’t really have an OTP.

14. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Not much in the way of WIPs but I do have several plot bunnies I entertain before discarding.

On DPxDC I had a demon twin AU where Damian killed Danny as a kid with pressure from Ra’s al Ghul, and they met again after many years, with Damian as Robin and Danny as the Ghost King… and Danny didn’t forgive Damian. I had a lot planned and wanted to include a lot of worldbuilding, but ultimately I decided I couldn’t give Damian’s character justice as I was projecting heavily on my broken relationship with my abusive brother, and Damian deserved better than to be compared to my brother.

Also DPxDC, the aforementioned explicit work, which would be Danny/Valerie/Jason, with them dealing with being ecto-entities with the ecto-acts in place, Danny dealing with being King and trying to be an astronaut, Valerie coping with her feelings on her nature and her Wayne scholarship, and Jason being a crime lord with a family of vigilantes, and their broken yet existing relationships. As they navigated the complex ensuing dynamics, they dismantled the GIW and took down the Ecto-Acts.

I would also like to do more for Dragon, but I really don’t feel like it rn

Instrospection and mindscapes, if I can say so.

Anything that isn’t introspection and mindscapes.

20. Favourite fic you've written?

aughdabdsufsda, I don’t really know, I love several of them for different reasons, but maybe Father and Sons? I love Clockwork and I love my Sandman crossovers, so I liked mixing both.

In 2021 I brought back angst week, a 5 day angst creation event held the first week of August. I was planning on doing this again in 2022, but with the amount of events hosted last year, I decided to cancel it. Around the same time, several people expressed to me that they would like to see an old fic recommendation event.

Now in 2023, I am debating these two events. Should I host an angst week, a fic recommendation week in place of the angst week, or both?

Additionally on this poll, I have a question about "prompt events" and then just events in general. So even if you do not care about angst week vs fic rec week, I'd love to hear your thoughts about current dp events!

I've been trying to think of ways to shake up traditional dp prompt events for ages while still being respectful to the medium, which is why we had thinks like "AU Monday" for Dannymay and the "2 sentence horror stories" for Ectober last year. But I'd honestly love some feedback and ideas if you have any!

Naked Truth Lies Fandom: Danny Phantom Pairing: Unidentified Flying Ship (Danny/Wes) Rating: T 2022 Word Count: 5273 Total Word Count: 12,708 Completion Date: Jan 8, 2022 Notes: I finished this Dannymay fic before the 2022 Dannymay, so I call that a victory lmao. I love how the final chapter went!! It was a lot of fun to play with Wes's emotions, and definitely opened a lot in regards to how I wrote him in my other fics this year. Plus, this fic is "technically" a prequel to When You Were Young.

Blue Pen, White Letter Fandom: Danny Phantom Pairing: Unidentified Flying Ship (Danny/Wes) Rating: T Word Count: 1302 Completion Date: Feb 15, 2022 Notes: I finished this basically in like, less than 3 hours because I was like "oh shit, it's Valentine's Day! When You Were Young Fandom: Danny Phantom Pairing: Unidentified Flying Ship (Danny/Wes) Rating: T Word Count: 33,448 Completion Date: Jun 25, 2022 Notes: I had first started thinking up this fic in June of 2021, so it was so exciting to finally start writing it! It's a bit of a love letter to 2005. Blockbuster, flip phones, baggy pants worn under your ass, coming to grips with your sexuality, and time travel. You know, the typical mid-2000s experience. Plus this fic got me to really fall in love with writing Kyle....

Memories of Tomorrow Fandom: Danny Phantom Gen fic Rating: T Word Count: 43,720 Completion Date: Sept 2, 2022 Notes: My Invisobang fic for this year! It was very cathartic to write this fic. I really projected my less-than-stellar high school experience onto Jazz (sorry Jazz!) and had a lot of fun exploring what it's like to experience high school again as an adult, while also trying to return to the future and not fuck everything up. It was also my first venture into writing more horror/suspense which was a lot of fun. This fic is definitely what I would say is my most overlooked fic of this year, which is disappointing in a way, because I really enjoyed it. Plus I discovered that writing a Jazz and Kyle friendship is super fun.

Nail Polish Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Pairing: Spuffy (Buffy/Spike) Rating: T Word Count: 7558 Completion Date: Dec 7, 2022 Notes: I had this idea in my head for a while and finally went "fuck it" and oh boy am I glad that I did. Writing Spike interact with the Summers women over seasons 4-7 was such a treat. You can really see how the characters grow over the show. Plus anything with Spike and Joyce is always a personal favourite.

Turn Away, Another Way - [drabble compilation] Fandom: Danny Phantom Some Gen, Some UFS (Danny/Wes) Rating: G-T Word Count: 700 Notes: I opened up a few writing prompts on Tumblr for writing drabbles and had a lot of fun with them! More redesigns! More redesigns! This time it's the whole Fenton family! As always, my notes will be under the cut. I really appreciate everyone's support and feedback about this series. I decided to update my Danny Phantom redesign. Now it's even LESS animation friendly. Not that I was going for an animation friendly design to begin really I just think it's funny how with every new iteration of Danny I draw there's always one or two more things added.

I'm really proud of how these turned out and I think he actually looks 14 for once. I think before I was kinda close, but he looked more 16 or 17 to me. I'll go more into my design choices under the cut so this post isn't a mile long.

Fanfic Review for 2023

So I posted one of these at the end of 2022 so now it’s time for one for 2023 as well. I enjoyed going back to this post to see what all I did this year so It’ll be interesting to see how some of it compares to last year.

I will say that my resolution was not completed I did not complete any of my long fics, but I did work on them and I claim that as progress. Without further ado my fanfic review for 2023! DannyMay 2022. Day Two

"No One Knows AU"

Summary: Danny has been acting weird. Tucker wants his friend back.

Tucker jogged to catch up with Danny, panting as he yelled out his childhood's friend's name. "Danny! C'mon, man, wait up!"

Shoulders hunched, hair a rat's nest, and dark bags under his eyes, Danny half turned to look back at him over his shoulder.

"Hey, Tuck." He offered with a weak smile that somehow did reach his icy blue eyes.

"Woah, you look like death warmed over." Tucker cursed himself and barely stopped before facepalming when he saw his friend flinch and look down. Way to go, Tuck. "Sorry, man, but you look like you haven't slept in weeks!"

"Oh, uh, yeah, heh. I- I have been having some trouble with it… I think I'm developing insomnia…" He fumbled with his words, and even though he was finally facing him, his gaze flickered all over the place, as if expecting an attack.

(Dash had been getting rougher with him, Tucker had noticed.)

"Oh, that sucks, buddy." Tucker almost went for a gentle slap on the shoulder as commiseration, but having Danny's eyes fall on his approaching arm with laser intensity had him hesitate, and lower it down again. "Hey, do you wanna hang out at my house? I just saw the new expansion on DOOMED and need my gaming buddy to go after the best ques!"

He paid attention, and so he noticed the shift in Danny's face, he could read the sudden yearning shining through his eyes. Danny wanted to hang out, to be with his friend and play dumb games unyil they fell asleep on the floor with their controllers still in hand.

(Then why didn't he just do it? What was stopping him?)

"You can stay the night! I'm sure my parents won't mind. You won't have to deal with the portal."

"What."

It was just the one word, but suddenly there was a lump in Tucker's throat.

Danny's eyes had finally snapped up to meet his, and they were cold, piercing, searching in a way that left his soul feeling bare, leaving it cold and unprotected.

With great effort, Tucker fought back the need desire to rub at his arms to get rid of the freezing sensation that left him rooted to the spot.

"What do you mean by that." Danny demanded asked, with an eerie echo to his voice that Tucker must have imagined and that did not scare him nor drove him away from his friend since diapers.

"I mean, like," he began, trying to go for casual even as he stopped his teeth from chattering, "it must be hard living with a freaking door to Hell in your basement. I'm sure you've run into ghosts at least a few times. Must be really annoying by night. It probably is what doesn't let you sleep."

Slowly, Danny's posture relaxed again as much as it could, and he gave him a small (resigned?), tired smile that came off as a grimace on Tucker's eyes.

"Yeah, it's… something, heh."

They stood in silence for an awkward moment, until Tuck spoke again–

"So, wanna come ov-?"

"I don't think so, no."

–only to be interrupted mid-question.

Danny was looking down at their feet, scuffing his toe on the floor.

"Look, man, I- I'm kinda behind on a few subjects, and I gotta catch up on past homeworks so- sorry, but I can't."

Danny turned to leave, but Tucker held him by the wrist.

DannyMay 2022. Day Three

"College Years"

Summary: Team Phantom move into their first apartment!

"Aaand these are the last ones." Danny announced, as he used the hand truck to carry four big, non-fragile boxes plus one (1) Tucker on top of then.

"Do we really need so much furniture?"

"We do if we want to be the hosts of the wildest parties!" Tucker answered, not looking up from his laptop as he jumped from his high perch and landed with a roll, with the device unbothered by this.

(Danny wasn't the only one who had to learn how to move and not die to protect Amity Park, these years.)

"Tucker, we don't." Sam droned from her spot on the floor while she sorted other boxes. "We want a passable sleep schedule and good enough grades.

"Five hours of sleep a night do sound like a dream." Danny chimed in as he unloaded the crates as if they weighed nothing. For him, they didn't.

"But- but college parties!" Tucker insisted with an exaggerated whine.

"Pff, you know my parents will throw a fit if they find out we're using their 'money invested in housing' to throw wild parties." Here, she looked up, raising an eyebrow. "They're not even keen on me living with two guys. They only agreed 'cause they think you're gay for each other."

That had both of them looking at her, processing the information.

Finally, Tucker asked, "Babe, do your parents still not know what polyam is?"

"Nope," the goth replied with a smirk, "and before either of you says anything, no, I'm not hiding it either; I'm just, not saying it to their faces." She shrugged. "If they realize, good for them, if they don't, well, it won't be the first time."

Her two boyfriends looked at each other for a moment, but shrugged as well in the end.

"Fair enough."

My #1 post of 2022

I see all of your "Danny runs away after a reveal gone wrong, ends up in Gotham and is eventually adopted into the BatFam (or BatPham, if you will)" and raise you:

a newly (half) resurrected Jason Todd ends up wandering the Ghost Zone until Danny finds him and takes him home with his loving and understanding parents after a reveal gone right, to help him deal with being a halfa and his new powers in a place where ghosts are such a common sight he won't really stand out and gain unwanted attention, with people that already have experience in this kind of situation and only want the best for him, where he has access to the Zone and enough ambient ectoplasm anyway to help him purge the rotten lazarus water out of his core and purify the ectoplasm in his body

and maybe the Fentons aren't perfect, but they do try, because they couldn't be there for Danny when his powers had just started showing and he had to learn on his own, hurt, stressed and about to collapse every day, and they won't be making the same mistake twice, when there is a boy that needs help and a stable home; they'll do better

and Jason still finds out about Joker being alive, about the new Robin that joined Batman, and he still is angry and heartbroken, but there is no Pit Madness to make him take The Worst Possible Choices, he doesn't beat Tim, doesn't become a crimelord, he doesn't kill. he faces his mentor, his father, and still tells him "I thought I'd be the last person you'd ever let him hurt", and there is so much baggage, so many "should have", "could have", "would have"s for them to be on good terms right now, to be a family again

but Jason is not alone (he never was, in either reality, not really anyway. he could have gone home in both worlds, his family missed him, but only in this one he knows he has a home, even if he doesn't really believe he could have two), and when he goes back to where he feels safe and welcome, where he knows for a fact a new addition is not a replacement (Danielle is there, after all), in that building with a giant sign and a space ship on top (no matter what Danny says, that's what he still calls the OPS center), he is welcome back with open arms and his favourite chilli dogs waiting for him

he has a family in Amity too

and he knows, deep down, that if someone tried to really hurt him again, this set of parents will not hesitate to go for the kill

Well, I'm finally entering the DannyMay ring! And what better day than this for something I'm finally ready to share!

This is a mini fic that I've been working on for quite some time now (but I've been nervous posting it due to it being the first fic I've shipped Danny and Nyreena together in a long, long time. (Please don't throw me to the flames 😅))

"Come one, come all! Come see the daring tight rope dancer Despera as she pirouettes with such grace and flair! But how can she have such balance on the rope as she dances, knowing there is no net below to catch her if she happens to fall?....."

You know, it's about time I did this sort of concept where Nyreena had been swept up in Freakshow's power and his latest controlled performer. And what better way then to use it for today's Chaos prompt? XD

And finally dress her as ballerina, something that seriously needed to be done for quite a while XD

FIRST POST OF 2022!!!! LET'S GOOOO!!!!

Oh man, I am so, so, so, so happy at how this turned out!!! It has been a long time since I worked on this so I definitely had to make it a goal of this year to get it done as one of the first projects of the year. And to get it done in just two separate days of working on it I'm very proud that it came out better than I expected.
