A Persuasive Argument - dpxdc
"Great!" Danny says, clapping his hands together to get everyone's attention. The dinner table falls silent as everyone looks towards him. It's a full house today and, honestly, Danny's a little nervous. "I'm sure you're all wondering why I gathered you here today."
"It's dinnertime. In our house." Duke mutters, while doing a very bad job of concealing his yawn. He holds his fork poised over the braised beef, but, just like everyone else, still looks towards Danny before tucking in. It's intriguing enough to wait.
"Yeah, no one misses Alfie's dinner." Dick says, with a brilliant smile that Danny can't help but return.
"Precisely! What better time to talk to you all than when you're all actually here!"
"Wait, I thought you came round to work on our English essays?" Tim asks, blinking owlishly.
"I'm afraid I've lured you here under false pretences, Tim."
"This is where I live."
"I would still really appreciate help on that essay though, I mean, what the hell is Hamlet even about? I just don't get that old time-y language, like 'Hark! A ghost hath killed me!' - absolute rubbish, what does that even mean?"
"The ghost never kills anyone in Hamlet, he's there to tell Hamlet that he was murdered. Have you actually read it?"
"No, but it sounds like you have. Tim, I want this guy to help me with my essay instead. I know for a fact that you haven't read Hamlet, either."
"So? We don't need Jason, I've read the Sparknotes."
"Hi Jason, I'm Danny, pleasure to meet you, summarise Hamlet in three sentences or less."
"Am I auditioning to help you write your essays? I can't believe you’ve gone through your whole school life without reading it, it’s good!"
"Hamlet, along with a number of other classics, was banned in our house because it portrayed ghosts as intelligent and sympathetic beings rather than evil, animalistic beasts. I didn’t even get to see The Muppet's Christmas Carol until last year with Tim! It was surprisingly good, and I hate Christmas because everyone always argued and it sucked. But we're getting off topic. I—"
"No, no, please go back to that, because what the fu—"
"Boys, please." Bruce interrupts, looking to the world as if he wants to hang his head in his hands. "Danny, you were about to say something?"
"Oh, yeah, Mr. Wayne! Thanks!"
"Please, call me Bruce."
"Well, that very succinctly brings me to my point, because I'd actually really like to call you dad."
Nobody says a word. Nobody even blinks, all as shocked as the other, watching open-mouthed as Danny pulls his laptop out from beside his chair. Bruce can definitely feel a headache coming on.
"Before you say anything, I've prepared a 69 slide PowerPoint presentation on why you, Bruce Wayne, should adopt me, Danny Last-Name-Pending. Please save your questions, comments, and verdict until the end, thank you."
#dpxdc#batpham#i forget - can we tag the parent fandoms? w/e#immediately alfred's like: while i do appreciate your initiative may i suggest it wait until after dinner?#and danny - who has barely eaten proper homecooked food ever - takes one bite and then absolutely wolfs down the whole lot#after he's finished he's like 'bear with - I've got to add that to the 'Reasons I Would Like to Live Here' section'#danny's powerpoint has tailored sections for each batfam member with lists of reasons why they'd get along#my au thoughts on this is that the fentons disowned danny when he told them he was phantom#and that this is after the ultimate enemy - wherein which he allied himself with the JL to fight against dan#(which didnt really work at all - BUT he knows some of their identities now INCLUDING batman's)#so one of the main reasons why he'd be a great fit is that he knows their vigilante status anyway so they don’t need to worry about secrets#dick just turns to tim like 'he’s your friend. he learnt this from you.'#tim: 'i didn't tell him our identities!! i would never!!'#dick: 'no i know that. it's the stalker tendancies. it's baby tim all over again'#tim: scandalised gasp#they all eat dinner in silence just super subdued and in shock and sending glances to bruce and danny#duke like: 'so i know I'm the last one in the family but like... this isn't how it normally happens right? did any of you make powerpoints?#tim gets all shifty because he absolutely did make a powerpoint he just never actually showed it to anyone#everyone stares at tim because they all know. it was in one of bab's blackmail files she has on him#damian's slide has danny offering to throw down at any time. Found this while going through my fanfic files, and i absolutely had to share.
Danny: i want in
Red robin: …what?
Danny: your bat family. I want in.
Red robin, blinking in surprise: i dont know what you think you know about my associates, but we're not-
Danny: dont be obtuse. I know youre the smart one. And i also know that your all one big relatively happy family. I want in.
Red robin: …why?
Danny: because you guys are the first people ive found that are wealthy, intelligent and powerful enough to take on my fruitloop godfather and win AND are decent enough human beings that i can be assured that when all is said and done, my well-being will remain a top priority.
Orphan, appearing out of nowhere: new brother!
Danny: *stares in shock*
Danny: *sudden uncanny grin* well that's one convinced. How do i win over the rest?
Orphan: no need. New brother!
Red robin: *pointed glance of betrayal* fine. Who is your godfather?
Danny: vlad masters. He's a fruitloop.
Red robin: for real? B's been investigating him for years! Tell me everything! *genuinely excited for a new lead*
Danny: well, he's tried to murder my dad and marry my mom, gained his wealth illegally, committed voting fraud to become the mayor of my hometown, has a secret underground lab where he does unethical experiments, and he's abducted me more than a dozen times even before my parents disowned me to make me his evil apprentice or whatever. Now that im homeless, he's literally out to get me. Oh! And he's cloned me too! She's cool though, we're buddies now.
Batman, who just arrived but heard everything over comms: hn. (Translation: who are you?)
Danny: my name is Danny. No last name anymore, but im hoping itll soon be Wayne! *winking suggestively*
Batman: hn? (how much do you know?)
Danny: enough to know that youre a much better alternative to vlad.
Batman: …hn (i dont know anything about you. What if youre a spy for vlad?)
Danny, giving his salesman pitch: i was a teen vigilante in amity park before i had to run away from home for my own safety. Vlad is one of my rogues. I know how to fight and defend myself, how to minimize collateral damage in a fight, and ive gotten really good and escaping kidnapping attempts. Ive also managed to reform and/or make allies out of approximately half of my rogues and can talk down about 30% of all rogue confrontations before they turn into a messy fight. The other things i can bring to the table are: one, i can teach all of you guys proper liminality self care; two, i can probably minimize and possibly cure red hood's anger issues; three, i can get along with stabby robin because i consider fighting a friendly social interaction - he can even stab me and i wont be injured by it; four, i can be your go-to guy for supernatural cases so you no longer have to deal with that sad trenchcoat man; five-
Red robin: *blurting* youre hired.
Batman: hn (i am deeply concerned)
Danny: if youre concerned now, wait until i tell you about the anti ecto control act
Nightwing, who showed up in the middle of the sales pitch: ive never seen anyone crack B's grunt language so quickly
Danny: grunt language? He's just using ghost speak - which will be covered by the liminality self care lessons
Robin, who arrived with batman: what is a liminal?
Danny: all of you, of course! Otherwise you wouldnt need to learn about it, obviously
Robin: and why would we trust you?
Danny: did i mention i have a pet ghost dog?
Robin: …you drive a hard bargain
Danny, fist pumping: yes! That's three!
Nightwing: four, you got me when you could understand B's grunting
Red Hood, arrived with nightwing: five, assuming you arent lying about the pit rage
Danny, hand to his chest: i would never!
Orphan: honesty. Earnest. New brother.
Oracle, over comms: six. The anti ecto acts are legit and im terrified for his safety, assuming he's phantom, who is the vigilante of amity park
Spoiler, arrived with orphan: seven, as long as youre down for a few pranks
Batman: hn (ive been outvoted)
Batman: hnn (i dont wanna hear any jokes about adoption habits when you all forced my hand)
Batman: hn (that said)
Batman: welcome to the family
Duke, the next day: man, i miss out on everything exciting.
Duke, blinded by danny: and who the fuck told bruce he could adopt the fucking sun?!

Dick: I made a mistake
Jason: What you do?
Dick: It's bad
Tim: How bad?
Dick: I think Bruce is going to take me out of the trust fund bad
Damian: Worry no, Richard, for I shall care for you when you are old, wrinkled, and gross. I have more than enough funds for both of us.
Dick: Thanks Dami
Jason: So what'd you do?
Dick: Remember Danny Phantom? That ghost hero that saved the planet from an asteroid?
Tim: Yeah, he does good, clean work. Bruce considered offering him a spot in the Justice League before he suddenly announced he planned to retire from the hero scene.
Dick: I slept with him.
Damian: I beg your pardon?
Dick: And I left before he could wake up the following day, ignored all his calls 'cause he was my rebound when Kori and I split and haven't seen him in almost five years. I just saw him.
Jason: Alright, he's your ex, and you ran into him. He's probably mad at you since that was a bit shitty. But that's not too bad; I don't think Bruce will disown you-
Dick: Yeah turns out Phantom isn't a human ghost. I don't know what he is, but he is a different species, which means his kind reproduces differently, and he was walking hand in hand with a miniature version of me. A version that was five years old. I stole some of the kid's hair, and well.....I have a son I never knew about because I blocked Danny after our one night since I got what I wanted from him.
Tim/Jason: .....
Damian: I regret to inform you, Deadbeat, that no funds are available for you. Or ever. You will die alone. Hungry and scared.
Dick: Trust me I know I deserve that. God! What am I going to do!?
Meanwhile clear across the city
Dan: Are you sure no one will notice me overshadowing this body?
Danny: Nah, it's a failed cloning experiment between me and my ex. It never had a soul. Think of it like it's a meat suit. If anything, I can just keep telling people you're my son.
Dan: Why did you try to clone your ex anyway?
Danny: I'm bored Dan. I'm so bored, there is nothing for me to do now that I retired Phantom.
Dan: That's fair. Boredom is the worst. That's why I choose to visit the human world, though it is weird to be corporal after all this time.
Danny: Do you miss being a halfa?
Dan: Sometimes. But I brought upon myself, I did kill my human side, so I appreciate you leaning me the meat suit. Now tell me about that ex.
Danny: Ancients, where do I even start. His mullet? Blagh! His diet? Blagh!
Dan: He hot?
Danny: So hot.
Dan: Nice.

DpxDc AU: What’s an adoption paper or two between bros?
Danny is starting to realize that since Jazz left the house for university, his parents aren’t really good at well, being his parents. They’re obsessed with his alter ego to the point that they ignore his normal ego, and that uh, hurts his feelings. Like, a lot. Meal times have gotten weirder and more inconsistent, and he’s starting to wonder if they suspect what’s really going on with him.
They’ve started to say “You know you can tell us anything” these days when he sees them outside their lab (which isn’t frequent) but the normal amount of ghost hate speech hasn’t changed. If anything it’s gotten worse. Just like everything else.
Danny joined the whole-ass justice league to fill his spare time after high school and his parents are literally none the wiser. Like, he's a part time high-school senior at 17 and a full time international hero. His parents only comment on the fact that the menace Phantom is costing them a lot in airline tickets as they try and apprehend him all over the world. Hell, they caught Ellie for a second when he was in Morrocco and it got ugly fast. She's a junior member now but mostly spends her time with some doofus that has a magic traveling house.
And really, he's fine with his schedule of going to school, going ghost and making a difference, and then returning to a dramatically silent house. Really.
Then one day his new friend and co-team lead Red Robin makes a brief mention about his own childhood of neglect and Danny makes a joke, "What, no adoption papers for the homies?"
He laughs as he says it but something in his leader's eyes looks sharp, and Kon is sighing in the background something that sounds suspiciously like dear Rao you've done it now.
Next time Danny is on the Watchtower, he's brought into a meeting with Red Robin, Batman and various other JL team leaders.
"Adoption papers are very much for the homies. I've also included the option of emancipation, as you'll see in the green folder, but I am one hundred percent serious about adopting you."
"Red, you're like, 3 months younger than me." Danny deadpans.
"Adoption is for the homies and I'm emancipated. And If i'm reading Batman correctly, you're facing three outcomes right now."
"Three?"
"One: I adopt you and you become my legal dependent. Two: Batman adopts you and I become your legal brother. or Three: You emancipate yourself while allowing us to provide for you while your housing situation is sorted out."
"... Uh. Door one?" Danny is having too many feelings. Why does batman look disappointed? What is Jazz going to say? What on earth???
"Welcome to the Drake Family." Red shakes his hand up and down, the grin on his face feral and the plan towards being emancipated from the Fentons and adopted by his boss is a weird one.
But eventually, a few weeks later, he's had a pretty delicious dinner by his new adoptive grandfather-tler and is watching a movie with Tim and Kon on the couch and he's just so happy and comfortable and warm...
"Will this make Kon my dad if you two get married?" Danny laughs and it's the closest he gets to being disowned.

So while Jack and Maddie didn’t immediately try to hunt down Danny 16 when he informed them he was a halfa, they did sigh over parental rights to Vlad. Jazz 17 disowned her parents after this and got emancipated.
Vlad packed ups and moves to Gotham, dragging Dani 14 along with them.
Danny and Dani attended Gotham academy, and they hung out with Bruce Wayne 15 during school. The three did everything together, and they were the second and third people Bruce told about ‘traveling’ the world.
Last minute, Dani and Danny snuck onto his plane. It was 7 minuets before landed that Bruce figured out they were there.
Neither parties were happy.
Eventually, Danny and Dani convinced Bruce to let then join him in his training.
When they return to Gotham, it isn’t just Batman who debuts, it’s also Phantom and Wraith.

You know what would be both Cool(tm) AND Pants Shittingly Terrifying? Eldritch Space Whale Danny!
Except NOT! Because he's not a whale! Just snoozing and Giganto-Fuck-Off HUGE!
Imagine it! Danny. Joint Custody Child of The Ancients Of Time And Space. Space is SALTY AF because their BITCH OF AN EX has used his FUCKING POWERS, AGAIN, to CHEAT. Clockwork how DARE YOU.
You knew he'd be our Son in advance!
YOU SNUCK IN AND STARTING BONDING WITH OUR CHILD BEHIND MY BACK!
YOU [REDACTED]!
Danny? Sitting off to the Side as a Sentient Everything and Nothing made of galaxies and starlight, howls expletives at their Ex, who is being... REALLY snippy back? WOW, Clockwork. I mean, JESUS, man. Danny's from "oh bless their heart" Nowhere, Midwest. And even HE thinks that last one was both backhanded and cold af.
......he should take notes. *continues to eat his popcorn*
Anyway! APPARENTLY, Space Parent has taken him in the divorce. With much huffing. Tucked under their arm Like The Football(tm). And honestly? This is kinda hilarious, so he's cool with it. Byyyyyy~ Clock Dad! See you on weekends~☆!
*Exasperated Time Noises*
It's pretty cool! He learns a lot. Learns he's probably? Gonna be SOME variation of Space Ghost. Might even take over Space's... well, EVERYTHING, should the unforeseeable occur. So obviously, gonna have to learn The Family Business, as it were!
Which?
UNSPEAKABLY HYPED, YES PLEASE.
SPACE AND STAR STUFF! HECK YEAH!
Unfortunately? Still a Halfa. Bleh, squishy need to eat and sleep. Why they get in the way of Hyperfixation? Why no more space dust? Nooooo, don't drag him away from the controls! He can still learn! Sleep is for quitters! Cowards! *whining in Give Me Back My Blorbos, You Monsters*
But, no. He apparently has to "take care of his body" and "not burn out". Eat "real food". A protein bar counts! He probably ate one of those! Give him back his STARS! He doesn't CARE if he sounds like a toddler! That's DIRECT ACCESS TO THE SECRETS OF SPACE ITSELF! He'll BITE, so HELP HIM-! *Is scruffed like a cranky infant being carried off to beddy bye*
Injustice! D:<
But, none the less, body's require sleep. He shovles down his food, washes up, and flops down in his bed. In the nice lil cozy "Safe For My Half Apprentice Who Is Also My Adopted Son" corner. He passes out in that corner. Starts to float, as he has done countless times before, when agitated before bed. Floats OUT of that corner.
That Safe Little Corner.
IN THE CENTER, THE BEATING HEART OF SPACE.
You know... the place ALL OF SPACE connects too. Where Universe Form and Die. The Grand Recycler. Dust to Dust, from the ashes of old, to the creation of new. Where PORTALS are randomly assigned. So that the Omniversal Ectoplasmic Levels may always be balanced at near to perfect levels, allowing free flow of Souls through the various Reincarnation cycles.
Space, of course, doesn't MANAGE the Ectoplasm itself. Nor the Souls! Different Ancient for THAT, but they DO manage the PORTALS. We live in a SYSTEM after all. Everyone has their "departments" as it were. So really, it's quiet... Danny? Honey? Awful quiet back there! You, uh, fallen asleep, Starlight?
*empty room*
(O.O)
*inhale* AAAAAAAAAAA-!!!!!!!
Meanwhile! He be Snoozin'! And Ghostin'! Ghost Snoozin'! Is extra comfy, cause he weightless and got not booooones~☆!
But! He? Is not a child anymore! Has learned to... for lack of a better term, Let Go. To finally ACCEPT his Death. His inhumanity. His Amortality. Death no longer holds him, can no longer let him go. He is... not immortal. He is disowned, by his own doing and his own choice, at his timeless moment of Ending.
When Life let go of his hand and Death kindly offered theirs, he did not take it.
And that's okay.
It took awhile. Talking to older ghosts. Most vague and vast, near formless. Because it's... it's scary. And it's all you know. All, really, you've EVER known. Inherent to your identity, even after you leave that part you behind.
You are "human". "Martian" or "Xy'xeruian", something else, and you never question it. Even when you've left behind everything ELSE. Your name, your eyes, your history and skin. Yet you fly around and pretend. Still alive, still human.
But is that YOU?
Or just the form you found your start in?
And like? It's okay if it IS! Sometimes, yeah, you ARE. You look down deep and find a "don't know what you were expecting, buddy" sign stapled to a mirror. But more often? It's that last hurdle. The final step in Letting Go.
Everyone mourns at their own pace.
And they are the ghosts of who they were.
It helped. Mourning for the kid he was. Who was fourteen and wanted to be an astronaut. Who died and will never have a grave. The longer he exsists, for he can't technically be called Alive, the more painfully young that child seems.
It was okay.
To cry for Danny Fenton.
Then? To let him go. Let his memory, be memory. And his Past be the grave that child rests in. Loved dearly and remembered, but no longer binding his soul.
He doesn't have to wear that face anymore.
No tributes to the Dead.
He got? Kinda... BIG. Like REALLY big. Spiraling, serpentine, cracking ice, and burning galaxies. Like a fourth dimensional dragon, of ice and stars, somehow forcing its way into a three dimensional space. Atop it all, between two vast, impossible horns? Made of glacial ice coating the warping hearts of black holes, who's shape themselves seem to shift in unknowable ways? There burns, like comet trails, with super novas, compressed to decorative gems beneath glittering morning frost, a Terrible Crown.
He? Thinks? He MIGHT have wings.
He can't tell.
Because APPARENTLY he's a fuckin tesseract! Oh, no, sorry. He might me a Zone DAMNED PENTERACT!!! Is THIS what he gets for hanging out with Clockwork all the time? He just liked the quiet! Now his "true form" is PHYSICALLY PAINFUL for most people to look at!
Clock Dad WHAT THE HELL?!
(You see, now, why Space broke up with him? An ASSHOLE)
So! Danny stays, usually at least, in his "Hi, yes, I am Normal Human Man" Ghost form. But NOW? Now it PINCHS. Because it's TOO SMALL. But hey, that's fine! It's not like he has an ingrained habit of transforming when super tired and stressed! To float sleep for Maximum Restfulness(tm).
Ha ha!
Why does that feel like foreshadowing?
BECAUSE IT IS!
Danny? Snoozing! Space? Has LOST THE BABY! Portals? Have done a Jood Gob in Portalling, something they are vaguely sure they are supposed to be doing! Yay them! They have no brain cells but still enjoy helping! They moved a thing! That's helpful right? Yay! Probably!
And on DC's planet Earth?
They? Just choked on their fuckin coffee. One moment? La dee daa~ oooh~ look! Stars! Deep space! Oh, hiiii~ Watchtower! The NEXT? *every alarm in the building starts LOSING ITS SHIT* Giant World OBLITERATING SHAPE completely takes up the screen.
From near PLUTO.
There are NO WORDS TO DISCRIBE HOW FUCK OFF BIG THIS THING IS, MR. PRESIDENT. It will eat our nukes and LAUGH. Call! EVERYBODY!!!
Obviously? Superman. I mean really, OF COURSE Superman. Frankly, all the Supers. Because we would like to KEEP having a planet, thanks. Only? The more reports that come in? The more everyone is getting "oh fuck. This is a Workd Eater" vibes.
A massive, massive, Sleeping Titan of a Planet Destroying World Eater.
That MIGHT BE MAGIC.
*highly stressed Everyone noises*
And WORSE? Superman? Can't TOUCH it! Oh sure, at FIRST he could! But then he apparently pushed too hard in just one spot! And it felt POKED AT. So now, after flicking superman HALFWAY BACK TO EARTH to make him stop? No one can physically touch it!
But! There is hope!
Because? The creature is GREEN. Bright, luminous, Lantern Green! And Earth's Lanterns have already sent for back up. Combined? The were able to move a... hand? Paw? Something. But! With the combine forces of several nearby sectors of Lanterns? They promise the power to either relocate the creature or at least hold it in orbit until FURTHER forces can be deployed!
They refuse to harm the creature until it proves actively hostile, as it could have been seeking a place to nap and chosen one inconvenient to established planetary life. Frankly? Earth doesn't CARE where you relocate the giant Eldritch Space Dragon. Just NOT IN OUR BACKYARD, PLEASE.
....YES WE ARE SURE! We don't CARE if the scientific community of our planet is begging you to set up an area for them to place an "observation satellite"! No giant Eldritch Space Dragons in our solar system! It might WAKE UP!
Naturally, about half way THROUGH this Highly Delicate Operation?
Danny Wakes Up.

DPXDC Prompt #104
What if Tucker or Sam was distantly related to Constantine somehow (leaning more towards Sam since she’s into the occult) and they meet up at a family reunion or something like it. Constantine would be horrified at their aura and wondering what in the hell they got into to have a protection mark from the Ghost King. Of course he’d investigate and go to Amity Park where he’d be even more horrified.
Of course Danny’s parents figure it out when everyone was away. They weren’t happy and disowned him. With nowhere left to go Danny tries to make the best of it and crashes in Tuckers room. At least they weren’t experimenting on him but it still hurt. Then his friends are back in town along with a suspicious warlock. Danny decides to bother him since he was now homeless with nothing else to do.

Dp x dc idea 39
Danny is Bruce’s bio kid but only finds out because his parents disowned him and Danny ended up being the teen titans unofficial feral sometimes member.
Danny has a new identity that has been emancipated curtesy of tucker. Danny broke the portal before he left so no more ghost problems.
Danny ends up in a new town working at a coffee shop and taking classes online. He has a trashy one bedroom apartment.
He ends up occasionally helping out this hero group called the teen titans. He doesn’t like the adult hero’s.
I need a paranoid person so it’s the teen titans with Tim drake. I need questions to be asked. Plus i feel like Danny and Conner would have fun sparing.
i imagine Danny like a stray cat. If they spook him he hisses and goes invisible. Food is a good way to coax Danny out. I like feral Danny. So he definitely bit at least one of the members.
As he warms up to him they find out more about him. That his parents essentially kicked him out. He got his powers in a lab accident. Apparently food has attacked him. A godfather who wants to forcibly adopt him and a bunch of concerning information.
Even with this Tim can’t figure out who is the white haired green eyes civilian identity. he just goes invisible when he leaves and trackers just don’t work. It’s driving him nuts.
During one fight danny gets injured and is forced back to his human form. Tim now knows who he is as he frequents the coffee shop Danny works at.
Danny begrudgingly agreed to have his dna tested. Not for identity but because none of the medical supplies worked on him. Stitches dissolved and pain meds did not work. Besides he is adopted so it’s not like a family match would help them find his real identity.
The dna gets run by tim. Nothing pops up for Danny but Bruce Wayne pops up as his biological father.
Bruce had no idea he had a second son. Danny just wants to avoid the billionaire attempting to enter his life. No more fruitloops for him.

# Dcu x Dp 206
Danny was the son of Talia Al Ghul and the demos head heir, he tried so hard to make grandfather proud but would always fall short, he could not kill his targets, he was slow in his studys, and was weak the only thing he did excel at was being sneaky and being able to detect threats.
When he turned 6 he was give a mission to gather information on two sciences that were studying Lazarus water, at first he thought he was able to finally prove himself to grandfather later he would learn that he was sent away because he had been stripping of his title and disowned as Talia son the only reason he was not killed was because they had a use for him later.
5 years later the mission whent to shit he died became phantom had to fight ghost and got caught by the Fentoms and tortured the only reason he was freed was because Talia came to collect him. At first he was happy to see his mom again but after she got him out and they were heading back to the league of Assassin he learned that she no longer knowledge him as a son and he would become a servant and be trained to take care of the demon heads heir.
At first Danny thought he would be angry and jealous that he was replaced but when he saw Damian all he felt was loved and possessiveness over him. Danny( who was renamed Shadow ) was in charge of feeding, bathing, dressing, and protecting Damian and as he grow older Danny was in charge in taking Damian to his lessons and patching him up. Danny could see that Damian was a much better heir and son than he was by the time Damian had turn 6 he had several kills already and by the time he is 8 he has been on a handful of missions that he completed. Still Danny was not jealous or anger at him instead he felt like a proud parent ( was this how Jazz felt with him ) .
Everything changed again when Damien was 10 Talia had told Damian if he could defeat her she would reveal who his father was. Danny had the same challenge when he was her son he dose not feels sad that he never got to learn who his father was ( he can't help but think his father would also be disappointed in him like Talia and The demon head or he would be disgusted in him like the Fentoms) Damien was able land a hit on Talia and was able to learn who his father is, Danny was told to pack a bag for himself before going to pack Damians bags. Danny could not help but be nerves for both Damian and himself.

Halloween prompts year 2 day 16
The bats had a plan. They knew Deathstroke had some wierd fixation on Nightwing and were going to use that to reel him in.
So Nightwing and the batfam staged a fight so big that when Batman disowned him it seemed legit and Nightwing disappeared not long after.
The bats were worried but they knew Dick could handle himself and that Deathstroke was an enemy he was familiar with so they just needed to trust him. That trust fell apart when they found out Deathstroke never encountered Nightwing as intended and the plan was never activated in the first place.
No one knew where Dick was. No one knew who had him, and someone had to have him or else he would have turned up by now or sent them a coded message, something!
But nope. All of his friends and family were left to worry about him and wonder...
---
Dick loved his little brother. He was funny and loved to make jokes and puns with him. He still had a lot to learn about gymnastics though. Dick wasn't sure why he loved it so much, it just felt like it was part of him somehow. Danny always got a look on his face Dick himself couldn't identify when he talked about it.
Maybe it was one of his missing memories? Danny had told him all about Dicks accident. Appearently thier parents, sister, and godfather had all died in it, leaving Dick Fenton with custody of Danny as the oldest sibling.
Something about those last two words seemed to tickle something in his brain...but it was soothed just by glancing at Danny across the diner table. Looking at Danny always made the wierd sensation disappear, like dark clouds being blown away to reveal the sun. Wasnt it wierd that his eyes always sought out Danny when the feeling starts?
Anyway, the accident didn't take his life, but it did take Dicks memories. He didn't remember much of his life before Danny dragged him out of the rubble but he knew he loved his mom, dad and little siblings.
Everything was fine in thier little household of two. Now he just needed to snoop around thier house for a bit to help him remember things
To find the truth
-------
Aka Danny, lonely and desperate after his family and friends died in an accident. He accidentally traveled to another dimension while wandering the zone in an attempt to get away for a while and witnessed what some random wierdo in a fursuit said to his...son? Apprentice? After seeing the fight Danny has a mental break and kidnaps Nightwing thinking no one would go looking for him.
Danny erases Dicks memories along with the citizens of Amity Park and brainwashed everyone to live out his fantasy of a safe home and loving family.
Too bad Dicks detective training is so deeply ingrained and that he has countless friends who won't stop looking until they find him

Before The Wayne Came A Kane
Martha Wayne née Kane came from a very prestigious family even before she married her husband, the illustrious M.D. Thomas Wayne. Sadly, her family never supported her union with Thomas, so she largely cut them out of her life once she married and that certainly had not changed when she had a son.
Her strained relationship with the rest of her family is particularly apparent when it's revealed, at the release of her and Thomas' respective wills after their unexpected, tragic deaths, that she would not give her brothers or sisters-in-law custody of Bruce. They may be the last of his living relatives, but even in death she would never allow them to touch her baby boy. Hence, his care is left to the head butler, one Alfred Pennyworth.
She did have two sister, though. Two baby sisters, one who had been disowned and disavowed from the family long before her, named Alicia. And one who was far too young to take in her son, even if Martha had allowed it. Her name is Madeline Kane. As the only other acknowledged daughter left from Roderick and Elizabeth Kane, she is left to carry the burden of her older sister's legacy. And what a burden it was, to be constantly compared to a dead woman her family seemed to adore and loathe in strides.
It's really no wonder that the moment she gets the chance, she leaves her family in Gotham to attend a university in Wisconsin. There, she meets Jack Fenton. He can be a little clumsy sometimes, but he has an eye for engineering and doesn't like her for her family's name or wealth. He calls her "Maddie" when she says so, and he doesn't ask about the change.
She falls in love and the two are wedded in the blink of an eye, Maddie pregnant with their first child only a few years after graduation. In her family's eyes, it just further proves that any Kane daughter is cursed and doomed to failure. (Beth understands this. Bette learns this. Kate knows this.)
And all too similarly to her elder sister, when her son is just fourteen years old, she is killed: yet another unexpected, tragic death. Her husband and her daughter perish along with her. Just like her older sister, the only one left is her baby boy.
Only, Maddie wasn't nearly as forthcoming with her will, and there is no guardian marked for custody in his papers. The Kanes, who proclaim they are his rightful family, are more than happy to take advantage of this.
Bruce isn't close to his family, beyond perhaps Kate. But if there is one thing that he knows it's that his parents didn't give his estranged relatives custody of him for a reason. Alfred is stingy with the details, but he can confirm that much.
Bruce is left to fight an uphill battle, helping a mourning boy heal from his loss and fighting his extended family's attempts for custody at every turn.
More ramblings under the cut:
See this guy right here?
Tumblr media
This is Jacob Kane, Kate's father, Martha's brother, and Bruce's uncle. He's got the distinct red hair and do you know who else has red hair? Maddie. Jacob is a respected military officer and Maddie, in general, has always given me strong former U.S. agent vibes. But regardless, it makes sense that Maddie would know things or learned how to fight at an early age if her older brother left for military service.
Also, I just love showing Bruce's extended family and how twisted, complicated his family was long before he adopted so many children. And this also helps explain why Maddie is so cagey with her background. She only has Alicia left really, all the rest she keeps out and away for good reason.
But she can't protect Danny from them forever.
Plus, there's this really cool possibility for Danny to stay with the Kanes for a while and explore that avenue before he's ultimately brought into the Wayne fold. Danny gets to see what the upper crust Gotham elites look like with his own two eyes, beyond Sam's stories.

blindsided | lance stroll
pairing: lance stroll x ricciardo!reader
getting your hopes up is a dangerous thing, a lesson lance has to learn the hard way. your connection was real, but what was it based on?
word count: 6.7k tags/warnings: some pining, some unrequited feelings, does it have a happy ending? maybe, maybe not thank you cay @oconso for that line you know the line
Tumblr media
You were an enigma to Lance.
You were someone that he felt he should have known, but the two of you had never actually taken a minute out of your days to properly introduce yourself, nor did you ever find yourself in a scenario where you could have had a conversation.
As the younger sister of Australia’s golden boy, Daniel Ricciardo, you were in school and then uni while he was in his prime racing days. Your summers were spent with friends, every so often you’d go to a race or two, but your priority was not being one of those family members who attended as many races as you could, Daniel understood that.
By the time you graduated last year, Daniel had told you his future with McLaren looked unstable and he didn’t want you to attend his races, saying he’d much rather wait until he was back with a 'good team'.
So you never had the opportunity to meet a lot of the drivers on the grid, Lance included.
But there was still this strange connection to him.
His sister was dating Scotty, Scotty was Daniel’s best friend, you as well had spent many days and nights at Scotty's family home because he also treated you like a younger sister.
And it was through social media and your name being brought up in passing here and there that Lance felt as though he knew you. He didn’t. He didn’t even know your middle name, didn’t know what you had studied, didn’t know what you were doing currently.
But he knew you had a good circle of friends, you posted pictures with them often. He knew you drank too much coffee for it to be healthy and it was probably an addiction at this point. He knew you were heavily involved in Daniel’s Enchante clothing line, usually being one of the models when a new collection dropped.
He knew you at face value, but god did he want to know more.
When Lance stopped by Chloe’s place with a box of empty envelopes she had asked him to pick up, Lance walked in on her and Scotty going over their guest list for a final time. Lance paid them no attention, he dropped the box of envelopes down on the table and sauntered towards the kitchen as the plate of freshly baked cookies looked mouth watering.
His ears perked up when he heard your name, however.
“...did Danny say that Y/N would be able to make it?” Chloe asked, directing the question to Scotty. “We gave her the dates a while ago, but she never got back to me. Also isn’t she terrified of planes?”
“She is, but she’ll take a pill or two and it’ll knock her out for the flight,” Scotty nodded and Chloe rolled her eyes at his joke.
Play it cool, Lance told himself as he leaned against the kitchen island. “Y/N? As in Daniel’s sister?”
Chloe didn’t even glance up, “Yeah, I’ve only met her once but she’s-”
“She’s like a sister to me. If she missed the wedding I'd disown her,” Scotty joked. He rested his arm over the back of the chair and looked at Lance. “Have you met her?”
Lance pretended to think about it, even pinched his eyebrows together, but he knew damn well the two of you had never met, “I don’t think so.”
“She’s sweet,” Scotty told him, his lips curling into a smirk that Chloe couldn’t see. Always a menace. “You two would get along.”
Lance snorted, “What makes you say that?”
“Because you’re both single.”
Chloe grabbed a sheet of paper and crumpled it up, tossing it into the chest of her soon-to-be husband, muttering something about staying out of other people's love lives. Scotty only sent Lance a wink before turning around again to give his attention back to the guest list.
Lance was single, Scotty wasn’t wrong about that. After just getting out of a relationship, he was, admittedly, lonely.
And it wasn’t that he purposely stayed single those months leading up to the wedding, but no one caught his interest. Or, if someone did, Lance would forget about them the moment you popped up on his Instagram feed.
Your smile was similar to Daniel’s in a sense that it was wide and toothy, easily becoming the most prominent feature on your face as your eyes squinted, but aside from that and the dark features, the similarities stopped.
As a Ricciardo, one might expect you to have the same bubbly and outgoing energy but from what Lance could see in the photos and videos you were tagged in, or ones you had posted yourself, you seemed to stick to the same circle of friends. You visited the same bars and restaurants because it was what you knew and within your comfort zone. You never went out of your way to make an impression on someone, happily letting your brother take on the more talkative role.
Lance wanted to know if your laughter was as loud and more amusing than the joke itself or if that was only a trait reserved for Daniel.
He was tired of trying to piece together who you were through pictures on a phone screen and still, the worst part about this was it felt as though he did know you. Lance had to keep reminding himself that he didn’t, that you never met, that the image he constructed of you in his head might be wrong.
He wouldn't know until Venice.
And you, well you thought you knew who Lance was too.
Danny had mentioned him a handful of times. You followed Lance on social media, even if he did have a tendency to be more secluded than other drivers, he still was pretty active when it came to liking posts, especially your posts.
You didn’t google him, per say, but you were curious. Who was this Canadian driver? Aside from being the son of the team owner, there wasn’t much to learn about Lance besides his driver stats. Again, very private.
But he was cute. He gave off the tall, dark and mysterious sort of vibe, which was never really your type but the more you saw Lance’s photo appear online, the easier it was to forget about those blonde surfer guys that you would usually spend your time with.
Lance seemed sweet, from what you could gather. And similarly, you felt as though you knew him too. It seemed odd that the two of you had never met and all, with your unofficial older brother marrying his sister. It was like you should have the same circle of friends or at least be able to call each other acquaintances but you couldn’t.
Daniel walked into his parents house in Perth, hitting a few envelopes against the palm of his hand and then the wall, basically demanding attention from his family until he flicked one of them towards you.
It narrowly avoided your face and you flipped him off in response, earring a scolding from your mother, but it was easy to move past the sibling banter when you all opened the envelopes to see the wedding invitations from Chloe and Scotty.
“Venice,” you breathed out. “Jesus Christ, that'll be a pricey adventure.”
Danny didn’t have to say anything. His elbow nudging against your side was enough for you to know that he would help pay for the expenses. He was always looking out for you, for his family. You wished you could do the same, but at the moment you were just enjoying your first full year of being done with university.
You grabbed a pen and checked off that you would be in attendance and then you hovered it over the box asking about a plus one.
“You’re not seeing anyone,” Daniel scoffed and then glanced over his shoulder to get his parents opinion on this. “Right? She’s not seeing anyone?”
“No one right now,” you corrected, letting the pen and invite drop to the glass coffee table. You could fill it out later. “Who knows? That might change.”
“Don’t invite someone to a wedding if you’ve been dating them for less than six months, that’s a general rule.”
“Says who?”
“Says everyone,” Your mother interjected.
You just huffed out a breath of annoyance, “Well it’s a good thing the wedding is nine months away. I have time.”
Daniel stood up, but not before pushing you further into the corner of the couch, muttering a joke about how no one would want to date you anyway. Of course that prompted you to throw a pillow at him and your parents were left standing in the kitchen, wondering why they couldn’t just have one nice afternoon.
Daniel, of course, wanted nothing more than for you to be happy, despite the constant teasing and lack of faith that you’d ever actually find someone. He knew you had high standards, he knew you didn’t trust easily and he knew you would never follow someone because you were in love or whatever.
That’s why your last relationship ended. He wanted to move to Melbourne after graduation from university and even that was too far for you. Your whole life was in Perth, your home was on the western coast of Australia, you didn’t want to go anywhere else.
One time, Daniel tried setting you up with one of his athlete friends, someone else who was associated with Red Bull, but he was from Portugal, he travelled for a living and he resided in Los Angeles during his off season. You went on one date and you didn’t need to spend any more time with him to know you could never be in that sort of relationship.
Of course, this wasn’t something you shared publicly. Unless someone took the time to get to know you, your dating preferences would remain unknown.
You were private in that sense too. If you did talk to someone, if you attempted to broaden your circle and add a little romance in your life, you kept it to yourself. You were always paranoid about jinxing whatever fling you had so your friends were often left out of the loop.
Your parents were a similar story. You didn’t live at home, you had your own flat, but you wouldn’t dare bring someone by for dinner or to meet them in fear that they would get their hopes up. It was one thing to date someone, it was an entirely other thing when parents got involved.
The one person you could trust, surprisingly, was Daniel. You weren’t ever seeking out relationship advice, but you knew his relationship with Heidi started out quite secretive for the first few years, only recently they decided to go public. So he knew a thing or two about wanting to keep a private life private.
So Daniel was the one you approached only a month before the wedding, eight months after you had rsvp’d to the event and checked the box reading no plus one. You waited until he was visiting home and you weren’t under the watchful eyes of your parents but rather the comfort of your own flat.
“I have a favour to ask,” you started off, quite hesitant as you weren’t really one to ask your brother for anything.
And Daniel listened to your request, assuring you that, if you were serious, he could probably pull some strings.
Key word being probably. Daniel couldn’t promise anything and by the time you got to Italy, he did what he could, but you still showed up to the Gritti Palace Hotel the weekend of the wedding with low expectations and a bunch of unanswered texts.
There was a private event in the restaurant and you immediately were drawn to the outdoor portion that overlooked the Grand Canal. The actual ceremony wasn’t until tomorrow, today was simply a chance for the guests to mingle and for the bride and groom to celebrate their last few hours with their loved ones before tying the knot.
With an aperol spritz in one hand and the other gripping the wooden railing above the channel, you took in the sights in front of you. The breeze was gentle and the scenery was breathtaking, stunning enough to make you forget that you were still feeling some effects of jet lag.
Your back was to the rest of the party but your light pink dress that stopped just below your knee stood out compared to the white and beige decor the couple had chosen for this event. One could say it was because the colour was eye-catching, but there was no way to deny how well it accentuated your curves and highlighted your tan skin, making you appear as if you were truly glowing under the Italian sun.
You definitely caught Lance’s eye.
You didn’t even need to turn around for him to recognise you. He saw your hair, dark and natural as it flowed down your back and he knew it was you. The girl he thought he already knew, the girl whose life he had been following through a phone screen for god knows how long.
It was just his luck that Daniel was nearby. Lance took a minute before heading towards you, wanting to confirm that yes it was you and yes it was alright if he spoke to you without crossing some weird driver line. He nudged Daniel’s arm and nodded towards the girl in pink.
“That your sister?” Lance asked, clearing his throat.
Daniel nodded, quite happy that someone else here knew who you were. It was always uncomfortable when you attended gatherings and didn’t know many people, it just made you want to leave early.
“Yeah, you guys have met, right?”
Again, Lance played it off as if he wasn’t waiting for this moment, “No, I don’t think so.”
“Oh definitely go introduce yourself then, mate,” Daniel encouraged, which gave Lance even more confidence. “She’s shy, she'd rather drown herself in aperol spritz’ before ever approaching someone.”
Shy? Lance hadn’t pegged you for being shy. Introverted, maybe. But you seemed to have such a good group of friends and you went on adventures with them quite often that shy just didn’t seem like a characteristic of yours.
“It’s not weird if I…” Lance trailed off, unsure how to ask the rest of his question. “It’s okay if I talk to her?”
Daniel laughed, finding the question to be humorous. He wasn’t in charge of you, who was he to have a say over who you could or couldn’t talk to, “I don’t care, just don’t be a cunt or I’ll have to kick your ass.”
“Deal,” Lance chuckled before he shoved his hands into his pockets and made his way towards the balcony you hadn’t moved an inch from.
Lance wasn’t nervous, but he knew he should have been.
But again, it felt like he knew you. So he was comfortable enough to lean against the railing, not entering too much of your personal space, but close enough that you couldn’t ignore him. You turned your head, expecting to see your brother because as far as you knew, he was the only one here who would ever approach you, but you were pleasantly surprised to see Lance.
“Hi,” you said, already a smile on your face. Lance was someone you recognised. This wasn't a stranger approaching you, you could breathe. He was someone whose name you had heard quite a bit recently too, with his sister getting married and his good performances with Aston Martin.
He was your brothers, best friend’s, soon to be brother in law. It was a long string that connected the two of you, but nonetheless, that connection was there.
Which was why you already felt comfortable with Lance, even with this being the first time you’d ever met.
“You’re Y/N right?” Lance asked. He knew damn well who you were. “I’m Lance.”
“Yeah, yeah,” heat rose to your cheeks at the idea of you being recognised. “Hi, it’s so nice to meet you. I feel like I-” you sucked in a breath instead of finishing your thought, not wanting to come across as overwhelming.
“It feels like we already know each other?” Lance guessed, because this was exactly what was going through his head too.
Quiet laughter passed through your lips, Lance felt weak at the knees.
“In a way, yeah,” you agreed, nodding your head.
You had similar mannerisms to Daniel. Strong eye contact, saying ‘yeah’ to fill the gaps in sentences. Lance looked down at your hand and saw a few tattoos like that traced your wrist and a delicate design of a flower along your finger, similar to your brothers. Something that he hadn’t picked out from your Instagram.
The way you curled your fingers around the fragile stem of the glass caught Lance’s eye next. Your touch looked careful, soft even, and Lance wanted to know what it would be like to feel it for himself.
And this wasn’t one sided.
With Lance in front of you for a change instead of hiding behind Aston Martin admin approved photos, you could appreciate him in a whole new light. Social media and tv interviews didn’t do him justice, he was much more handsome in person.
You liked the confidence he carried, even if he did seem a bit on the introverted side as well. You instantly got the impression that Lance was someone who stuck to himself but cared deeply about the people closest to him. He seemed like someone you wanted on your side, someone you could turn to at any time and know you would get a shoulder to cry on or a celebratory hug or even just someone who would really listen, if that’s what you needed.
You already felt connected to him, even though you knew you had no reasoning behind it.
“I’d offer to get you a drink but it’s an open bar and-” he eyed the aperol spritz in your hand. “-well you already have one.”
“I have two hands,” you teased, but your roguish smiles mirrored one another's and it was only a few seconds later when you and Lance were walking back inside towards the bar.
He thought about dropping his hand to your back, but didn’t want to overstep. Contrary to what he might have wished, you had just met.
But when someone stepped past him and Lance was forced to move closer to you, you didn’t inch away. In fact you looked at the point of contact at your arms and then glanced up at him, still sporting a natural pinky colour in your cheeks.
You didn’t really need another drink just yet but Lance ordered one for himself and when the bartender asked if you wanted a second, you just shrugged and said why not. It was an open bar, who were you to say no?
Lance and you stayed at the bar, getting as comfortable as you could on the stools as you fell into a good conversation. He was easy to talk to, like he was a friend from college that you bumped into by chance.
But even with the natural flow of the back and forth, you had to remind yourself that you were still just getting to know each other.
Within the hour you learned that his favourite colour was dark blue, that when he wasn’t focused on racing he tried going to as many hockey games as he could. The Habs, as he called them, was his favourite team and it took a few minutes and a bit of a history lesson for you to understand how the Montreal Canadiens got the shortened nickname.
You learned he was not a morning person, whereas you thrived in the early hours of the day. He didn’t read as much as he liked to because of his demanding schedule, but you were quick to give him a list of recommendations based on what you thought he might enjoy if he ever did find time.
In return, Lance learned you studied hospitality and had a degree in Hospitality Management, with the goal of one day managing a hotel. When Lance questioned you more on that field you admitted that you actually wanted to take a lodge or a resort that was a bit of a fixer-upper and turn it into something great. You liked a challenge. Lance liked that.
Lance learned that you really enjoyed surfing and right now was actually the prime time for you to be getting ready for the season. While Perth wasn’t the best place in the world for surfers, it was perfect for you because it was never something you wanted to pursue professionally.
When it came to the topic of travelling, Lance was surprised to hear that you didn’t do it as often as he assumed. You explained that everything you needed was on the west coast of Australia and you weren’t an easy person to travel with. You struggled with anxiety in airports, horrible jetlag, you overthought every plan, even if you weren’t the one in charge of the itinerary.
Travelling was a no, to sum it up.
“But Daniel-”
“Travels all the time, yeah,” you finished Lance’s thought with a laugh. “Yeah we’re not alike in that sense. Even coming here was tough, but he told me there was no option to attend virtually.”
“Not a fan of planes?”
“Not in the slightest.”
Lance nodded, already thinking about how to approach the topic of trying to stay in contact long distance without coming off too strong. Sure he could ask for your number, but what if he wanted to see you again? Which he did. If a plane ride from Perth to Venice was a lot to handle, he could imagine a trip to Montreal was even lower on your list.
But Lance really liked talking to you, it was easy. It was natural. He didn’t have to try too hard, he didn’t feel the need to impress you. You laughed at his jokes, you understood each other's humour. The two of you clicked, it was impossible to deny that.
Which is what Lance hoped would happen.
You were everything he had imagined and more and he was asking himself why he never tried to meet you sooner.
That same question flashed through your mind too. Why couldn’t you have met sooner? After months of being forced to try and imagine what sort of person Lance was, it was heartwarming to know that the image you painted of him wasn’t entirely wrong. He was sweet, he was charming, he liked making you laugh, he knew how to keep a conversation going and it was obvious he cared to get to know you.
These were traits you looked for in people, in a partner.
But this chance encounter came a few months too late.
The conversation took a pause when Scotty appeared behind Lance, his soon-to-be ringed hand going to his shoulder as he gave both of you one of his signature smiles.
“Y/N! Happy to see your plane didn’t crash!” Scotty teased, knowing your distaste for air travel.
“If my drink was full I’d throw it on you,” you shot back.
“Ah that’s just a waste of an open bar,” Scotty waved your meaningless threat off. “Honestly, though, thank you for coming. Chloe’s around here somewhere-”
“Lost your wife already?” Lance joked.
“Maybe she’s  a runaway bride,” you added. “She can still back out, you know?”
“Ha ha,” Scotty rolled his eyes. “Lovely to see that you two are getting along at my disposal.” He patted Lance’s shoulder and then turned to you, snapping his finger before pointing. “Did Danny talk to you?”
“Um-” you shook your head. Daniel and you hadn’t had a second to catch up since you arrived, despite the dozens of texts you had sent him. “No, why?”
“It’s all sorted out,” Scotty assured you. “It really wasn’t that hard to swing an extra chair, you gave us enough notice. The more the merrier, right?”
“Oh, Scotty thank you,” you breathed out. You reached forward and squeezed his arm in appreciation, but your smile was enough gratitude. It was the type of smile Lance had been waiting for. The grin that overshadowed the rest of your stunning features, the thing that had drawn Lance to your photos in the first place.
Only Lance wasn’t the reason for it.
“Is he down here?” Scotty asked and this was about the time Lance realised he was missing something. There was a layer to this conversation that would tie everything together.
“Jet lag’s still getting to him.” you laughed, nodding your head towards the doors of the restaurant. “He set an alarm to get up, I’m sure he’ll be down here soon.”
“Can’t wait to meet him,” Scotty said with a nod, but there wasn’t much room for you to say anything else before he found a new guest he had yet to interact with.
You looked towards Lance, but he was pretty good at hiding the confusion he was currently experiencing. In fact he played off needing to excuse himself pretty easily, you didn’t think anything of it when he said he needed to speak to Scotty about something quickly.
Lance pulled the snowboarder aside, not at all mirroring his elated expression, “She has a boyfriend?”
Scotty tried to glance in your direction but Lance tugged on his sleeve to get him to stop in his tracks, not wanting to make it obvious they were talking about you.
“She has a boyfriend,” Lance repeated, no longer a question. “You told me she was single.”
Scotty racked his memory for a second and scoffed, “Yeah nine months ago. Not my fault you waited too long to make a move.”
“How was I supposed to make a move when I hadn’t even met her?” Lance was clearly annoyed but he kept his tone to a sort of angry-whisper. “I was waiting for this wedding because I knew she’d be here.”
“Sorry mate,” Scotty sighed, slowly piecing together that this wasn’t something Lance could casually blow off. “But I mean, you couldn’t have liked her that much. You don’t even know her.”
But in a way he did. And god he knew you felt the same. There was no way to explain the connection you two shared, but it was there.
Lance inhaled a sharp breath, doing his best to keep from looking at you across the room, “I feel like I should say something.”
“Don’t,” Scotty immediately rejected the idea. “From what I hear from Danny, she’s happy. She doesn’t need you coming in and mucking it up.”
“But what if she’s-”
Scotty cut him off with a harsh laugh, “What if she’s what? The one? Lance, you just met her!”
“Then why does it feel like I’ve been waiting for her my entire life?”
Scotty let out a deep exhale, lifting his hand to Lance’s shoulder. He gave him a sympathetic squeeze, “Because she’s pretty and you’re lonely. Now let her be. Don’t ruin a relationship during my wedding weekend.”
He walked off shortly after, leaving Lance to, hopefully, make the right choices.
Lance should have listened to Scotty. He should have rejoined the party and leave you be, knowing that his chance with you was either non-existent or just extremely slim. How serious were you and this boyfriend anyway?
As if the universe wanted his question answered, the boyfriend himself walked into the restaurant.
The only reason Lance knew it was the boyfriend was because he saw the way you stood up from the bar and practically ran to him, your pink dress was impossible to mistake even as you hurried to work your way through the party.
Lance watched as your hands went to his tie to adjust it before he leaned forward and greeted you with a kiss. You played with a few strands of his dirty blonde hair, probably making some comment about how it looked like he just woke up. He laughed at whatever you said and Lance hated that you looked happier now than you had all throughout the last hour.
He was now trying to figure out if he had misread the signs. Did you even give him any signs? You sat and talked to him but it was Lance’s own fault if he misread that as being interested.
How did he not know you had a boyfriend?
Why didn’t you mention it?
Why wasn’t that one of the first things you said to Lance when he offered to get you a drink from the bar?
Why did Lance still feel that spark with you when it should have been reserved for your boyfriend?
Lance wasn’t sure how much time had passed as he stood off to the side, questioning everything he ever knew about you, or what he thought he knew. But he came to and snapped out of his thoughts when he saw that familiar shade of pink headed towards him.
“Hey,” you said, your hand was connected to your boyfriend’s as you led him towards Lance.
Lance smiled, how could he not when you approached him? “Hey, sorry, I went back to the bar earlier but you were gone.” Did he feel a little bad about lying? Yes, but it was easier to say that than to say, I stopped talking to Scotty a while ago. I just didn’t know how to interrupt you and your boyfriend.
“Oh, yeah, um-” You pulled the tall blond closer to your side. His hand went to your waist. “Lance, this is Matty. Matty, Lance.”
Matty held out his other hand to connect it with Lance’s. It was a firm handshake, maybe a little too firm on Lance’s part.
“Hey, mate, huge fan,” Matty said, similar accent to yours and Daniel’s.
“Oh thank you,” Lance cleared his throat. “Hope you don’t mind, I’ve been keeping Y/N company.”
“I should be thanking you for that,” Matty laughed, the bitter tone from Lance going right over his head. “I needed a quick nap before this party. I don’t know how you drivers are able to just hop on planes so easily, I think I’d rather sail back to Australia.”
You guys were compatible, at least. Same fear of planes, same dislike for travelling.
Lance didn’t like that. He knew he was the last person who should have an opinion, but he always thought it was opposites that attracted. Shouldn’t you be with someone that encouraged you to step outside your comfort zone?
“Oh there’s Danny and Scotty, I’m going to thank them for letting me come so last minute,” Matty looked towards the opposite end of the room to where your brother and friend were. He ran his fingers over your back and assured you he’d be quick before he headed off to talk to them.
“Last minute?” Lance asked. “So he wasn’t originally supposed to come?”
You laughed, “No, we’ve only been together for about six months. When I RSVP’d to the wedding last year I hadn’t met him yet,” you glanced towards Matty, “And then about a month ago I realised I kind of wanted him to accompany me here. Danny said it would be fine, probably, so he got a ticket to Venice but we actually didn’t get a confirmation until-” you chuckled again. “Well you overheard Scotty. I found out thirty minutes ago that Matty would have a seat at the table tomorrow.”
When you spoke about Matty, your face lit up. Lance couldn’t deny that. He could see how happy this surfer type from Perth made you.
And in return, you saw how Lance was no longer acting himself. He was tense, avoiding your eyes. You called him out on it, “Is everything okay?”
Lance should have taken Scotty’s advice. He should have said everything was fine and walked in the other direction, letting you go back to Matty.
But Lance was a hopeless idiot. He nodded his head towards the doors of the restaurant that lead towards a secluded hallway, “Can we talk?”
You weren’t sure exactly what Lance wanted to talk about but you followed him out into the hall. The music faded behind you when you walked far enough and Lance wasted no time in saying what was on his mind.
“Do you ever meet someone and it just feels right?” He asked.
You hesitated, “What do you mean?”
Lance glanced back towards the party, “Like you see them and you just know there’s a connection. That they’re supposed to be in your life.”
“I mean-” your eyebrows pinched together, “Yeah. I’ve experienced that a few times I guess.”
That clearly wasn’t the answer Lance wanted to hear and his defeated expression told you that. He nodded, coming to his own understanding, one that you were having a bit of trouble following.
“Is it wrong if I say that’s how I felt when I looked at you?”
You stared up at lance, lips parted slightly as you did your best to ignore the devastating feeling of your heart sinking to your stomach. You didn’t have an answer, what could you even say to that?
Lance was practically admitting to believing in love at first sight and you, well, you didn’t see what he saw. You couldn’t.
“Look I didn’t know you had a boyfriend,” Lance continued. “And I don’t mean to blindside you like this, really. I think, well I think I was blindsided when I realised you were already taken.”
This was a lot to wrap your head around.
You never intended to lead Lance on. You chatted with him for a while, yes but you tried to stay behind the line. You didn’t flirt, or at least you didn’t flirt on purpose. You could have said you had a boyfriend, but the truth was, it didn’t cross your mind when you talked to Lance.
Blindsided, he said. It seemed like a harsh word for the situation you found yourselves in.
“Were you blindsided or were you just blind?” You asked, dropping your shoulders to lean against the wall. You watched as Lance really took in your question and he rubbed the back of his neck, unable to come up with a good answer.
You felt for him, really, because you did like him. You liked talking to him, you liked his presence, he was someone that you knew you would get along great with.
You also knew that if this situation were any different, if you showed up to this wedding single, you’d have probably, definitely, given Lance a chance. And this wasn’t something you should have been thinking about because you had a boyfriend. You were happy. Imagining an alternate timeline without Matty seemed wrong.
There was a connection with Lance, but it was one you couldn’t act on.
“Lance, I think we both had an idea of who the other was before we came here, but we had very different ideas as to how this weekend would go,” you continued, a certain gentleness in your tone that Lance appreciated. “I was looking forward to meeting you. And we both agree that it feels as though we already knew each other...but the truth is, we don’t.”
That was a stab right to the chest for Lance, but he nodded in agreement.
“I guess I just thought this weekend would be the start of something,” he admitted, trying to play off the thought with a chuckle.
You wanted to apologise, it was human nature to want to sympathise with other people, but you had nothing to apologise for.
Lance had constructed his own image of you and in it, you were single, you were compatible, you were willing to see this connection through and make something of it.
And that’s what blinded him.
If he had taken a second to actually pay attention to what you shared on social media, he would have recognised the same blonde haired guy showing up in a few photos dating back to almost six months ago. All Lance paid attention to was you, your smile, you having a good time, your adventures. You were private about your relationship, yes, but you weren’t keeping it a secret either.
Lance just didn’t put it together until it was too late.
It hurt you, really. You didn’t like knowing you were the reason for someone’s sorrow. In fact you almost went as far as to say, if things were different…
But things weren’t different. You were with Matty.
Was Matty the right person for you? Lance wanted to ask that but he knew he’d be crossing a line if he did. That was something you had to figure out on your own.
After six months of dating, you liked to think he was. The timing was perfect, he treated you well, he made you undeniably happy.
And yes, you could have looked at Lance and told yourself he had the same qualities. That he was also perfect, that he also could have treated you well. There was no doubt in your mind he could have made you happy if he was given the option.
But timing was not on your side.
Lance licked his lips, taking a step away from you and closer to the crowded restaurant where he knew your boyfriend was waiting, where his family was waiting. You would both go your separate ways and return to how it used to be, following each other's lives through a phone screen.
“Right person, wrong time, huh?” Lance tried to joke, but the soft smile you gave him in return told him that there was some truth to his words, truth that even you didn’t want to admit to.
In an attempt to fix this, you spoke from the heart. Telling Lance what he needed to hear, even if you weren't fully convinced by your own words. As long as you sounded believable, you both could move on from this moment.
“If it’s the wrong time, then it’s probably the wrong person.”
Lance nodded, noticing the way you struggled to keep eye contact, something you hadn’t had issues with all night. He took that as a sign that it was time to walk away. From you, from this, from what could have been if they met only a few months earlier.
He turned and rejoined the party, plastering a painful smile on his face as he carefully made his way through the crowd to order another drink from the bar.
He avoided you and your pink dress for the rest of the night, not because he wanted to, but because it was the right thing to do. And it wasn’t easy because to Lance, you were still the girl that he thought he had been waiting for this entire time. That would take time to get over. He had spent less than a few hours with you and it was the easiest, most carefree evening he’s had in a while, and he knew moving on from you would only be the opposite.
It was his own fault too. Lance was the one who got his hopes up. He was the one who was waiting for the right moment that never came. Or worse, it came and went without him knowing. There was probably a sliver of an opportunity months ago where he could have done something, could have asked Danny to introduce you, could have asked Scotty for your number. By waiting until the wedding, Lance had only set himself up for failure.
If it’s the wrong time, then it’s probably the wrong person.
He didn’t want to think about the way you said ‘probably’. He wasn’t going to. Lance knew you weren’t leaving any sort of hint, you were just letting him down gently, which only further proved how good of a heart you had.
You were so kind, so caring, you were perfect, and you weren’t his.
You never would be.

okay so I just backread the entire twst x mh AU you made and first off O U G H!!!! THEY'RE SO PRETTY!!!!!!!!! All of the designs you made are absolutely phenominal, Deuce and Ace are so silly and funky and I want to throw them around like squeaky toys
and second, since there's been a bunch of Yuu Thoughts being thrown around I thought why not, let's throw my own hat into that ring: what if Yuu's kinda like. Danny Phantom. They were a regular human but then Died But Got Better Sorta, and now they kinda exist in a way that really shouldn't work yet somehow does. Idia takes one look at them and just Squints but is too socially anxious to actually approach them about it
And what if Idia was supposed to be the one to take Yuu's soul to the afterlife or whatever place they're supposed to go but he forgot/did a terrible job and now everytime they cross paths on the hallways he's a ball of nerves because no one can hear about this, ever. He'll be disowned from the family business or something! (He probably won't) He'd look at Yuu and think, every single time "right I'm supposed to do something about this asap" but never does. The cycle repeats the next day.
On the other hand, it would be funny if Yuu was a lost soul and be followed around by other students related to this theme of afterlife such as Ace and Vil (unexpected duo), like

I wanted you to know that I love your stories, all of them, and I'm really curious about Jason in Freelance Inventor — he didn't die, but is he still a vigilant? If so, who is he? Is he still Red Hood, even if Joker didn't get him? Or is he going to college know that he's not Robin for some time?
Jason Todd reads over his essay one last time, double-checking for any spelling or grammar issues. He's reasonably confident that there are none, but with last night's Riddle fiasco, he had yet to get much-needed sleep before typing it out.
The last time he turned in an assignment with that much lost sleep, he had somehow written lyrics to the music he was listening to while researching.
He leans back in his chair, cracking his knuckles once he verifies everything is in order. After a quick stretch, he reaches for his mouse and clicks open his online class platform.
Three clicks later, this week's work is uploaded into the submission box, waiting for his professor to review it. He lingers on the page long enough for it to flash the confirmation and clicks the tab towards his email, making sure the same notice arrives there before closing everything down.
He's exhausted, more so than usual for a college student, but if he wanted the weekend open to having that fishing trip with Danny, he needed to get his ass in gear.
Jason sighs, reaching for the textbook of his female authors in history class next. His eyes drop as he flips through the chapters to the most current one.
Norally, Jason would adore reading, but trying to force himself after being awake for who knows how many hours just causes the words to blur before his eyes.
A knock at his doorway jolts him from the third re-read passage.
Danny is standing there with a tray that contains a steaming warm mug, a plate of cookies, and another plate of his famous grilled triple-cheese sandwiches.
"Hey, Kid," He says, that same nickname that he had used since Jason first arrived at Wayne Manor still curls with the same equal amount of warmth and care. "Brought you something to eat."
"Thanks Danny" Jason smiles, accepting the food without much fuss. He isn't quick enough to hide his yawn, causing his pseudo- step father to frown.
"How much sleep did you have last night?" He asks in that same disapproving voice since Jason told him about his new job.
"Enough. I just got to finish these assigments then I'll take a nap" He promises.
Danny's eyes narrow further before he sighs. If there is one thing he adores about talking to Danny is that he almost never argues with the kids. He makes his displeasure known, puts in his two cents more often then not, but he is also willing to hear them out.
Even if he disagrees with a job mainly involving graveyard shifts at university. As far as Danny knows, Jason got a job within Wayne Enterprise as one of the emergency hotlines for troubled youths.
They anonymously helped provide kids a safe space to sleep for the night, no questions asked. Jason had help develop the program back durning his break from the vigilanete sceen as a teen.
After Sheila and Ethiopia, he was too injured to go out into the field, forcing him to take a break. While on the break, he realized that Bruce was right. Jason had far too much empathy, crushed by all the darkness he saw on the streets, turning to this side of unnecessary rough when dealing with criminals.
Robin had always been magic to him, but it was losing its shine by harsh reality. The break helped clear his mind and made Jason realize he no longer wanted to be Robin. He wanted to be Jason Todd, kept around not because of how useful he was but because of how beloved he was.
To this day, he is forever grateful that he had built a strong enough bond to call Danny, just in case Bruce disowns him as he feared back then. Danny had been shockingly close by, forcing Jason to promise not to get too close to Sheila without him- as he had brought up the critical detail that Sheila had given up custody rights with a side note of possible danger to baby Jason in her file- and Jason had listened.
Danny was a mere six hours away, but by the third hour, he couldn't wait any longer. He had gone to meet Sheila, choosing to not reveal his Robin persona just because Danny wasn't in the know yet.
He only told her when he followed her to the warehouse to try to convince her that he could save her from the Joker. She had maybe three seconds to process his claim before the Joker busted in, eager to torment a child, vigilante or not.
Joker didn't know he was attacking Robin. He just liked bringing misery.
She stood back and did nothing while Joker bounded him and beat the tar out of him with a crowbar.
Jason was honestly thinking he was going to die until the Fenton Ghost Assault Vehicle rammed through the metal doors, ripping them like paper, and slammed not only Sheila but the Joker. Crashing them under the wheels of his large RV with gusto. It was surprising that neither passed away from the collision.
Danny had fung himself from the passenger seat like a warth, dragging the wounded Jason to safety. The bomb Joker planned to set off was never started, left to be discovered by a team of investigators who would remove the clown's political immunity once his crimes in the county were found, as the clown and his little assistant were left unconscious on the ground.
He would later be joined at one of the only Ethiopian hospitals by a hysterical Batman who didn't have an excuse for why he knew and was worried about Jason Todd.
The whole thing was a reality check that Jason and Bruce needed separately. Danny had ripped each of them a new one once everyone realized Jason would recover. It was during this lecture that Jason had let it slip that he knew Dick was the only real son, as Bruce had offered him adoption once he found the paperwork but not the street rat.
Danny had dragged Bruce by the ear to Jason's new hospital room in Gotham, making sure the man was carrying the adoption forms Bruce had applied for one week after taking in Jason. No one had ever wanted Jason.
But Bruce did even if Danny had to stand guard at the doorway, glaring at them both until they spoke about their emotions. Then, to even further shock Jason, Danny had shown him a new invention. It was a emergency tracker that would show where the older man was at any given time in the world.
It came with a messaging concept (back before phones had the texting option) and a promise that Jason could always reach Danny regardless of the day or time to talk.
Jason had busted into tears, the first time he was brave enough to message I think I want to go to college
The replay came a mere seconds later. I know you can do it, Kid; let's get you to college.
He gave up the mask and the cap, choosing only to remind computer support to his father and brother- then later little Tim, who Danny brought home- and continue his education.
His mother—the one who had cared for him and loved him like her own—his real one—would have been so proud of Jason as he walked across the stage to receive his diploma. Catherine would have been one of the loudest cheering, but the Fentons- who had all showed up after Danny sent out the word- more than made up for it.
The Waynes were loud, but nothing could be the hollering Jack, Dani, and Danny Fenton made when Jason gave his valedictorian speech for his high school graduation. Maddie and Jazz had clapped loudly, too, grinning ear to to ear as Jason waved at them.
He was accepted into Gotham University that fall, hoping to work his way to an English diploma. He kept up with his training dispite only being on communications and information for the Bats but the itch to get back into the feild was growing.
Maybe Robin had not made it out of Ethiopia, but Jason Todd did, and Jason thinks that Crime Alley needed a hero. Someone who could curl the violence there because they grew and knew the violence like the back of his hand.
Maybe the crime alley needed a Pheonix to watch over it.
Just after Phoniex finishes this one last assigment.
"Don't stay up too late. Get some sleep!" Danny demands as Jason munches on his food and opens a new blank Word document. This one is for a poerty elective he choosen and he had the perfect theme for his.
He types out Found Family in the title.

AFAB/Damian’sTwin!au Danny, presumed dead, transitioned while away, meeting Damian again, and immediately dumping as many puns into the conversation as possible.
Ex: “Hi Damian! Im back bc of some death defying trans-dimensional shenanigans! I’m kinda glad I died, honestly. It let me do some soul searching I wouldn’t have gotten to do while connected to a mortal body. Find out what I really was in spirit. I mean, I wouldn’t have stood a ghost of a chance back in the league, grandfather would have sent me to the grave. Again.
Jason: stop.
Dick: no keep going this is beautiful
Danny: i seem to have a real connection with Dick
Damian: I’m disowning you. I just got you back and I’m disowning you.

DPxDC Family Week June 20 (Day 3)
Prompt: Adoption | Learn
A/N: This was inspired by a rl video I saw as well as a Owl House Episode I watched with my friend a little while ago
AO3 Link: DPxDC Family Week Contributions
It had been months now since Danny had moved from Amity to Gotham after his parents had disowned him as well as suddenly told him that he wasn't their son but adopted. It was a hard pill to swallow especially after his parents hadn't taken Jazz and him telling them the truth about Phantom very well. They didn't react negatively nor positively at first. They had just in return told him about having adopted Danny when he was baby and then told him that they no longer felt adequate to take care of him, especially with their research. He was welcome to stay until he found a new place to stay, they weren't 'heartless' enough to just kick him out and make him homeless.
Danny still had packed his most precious things, clothes and some of his personalized Fanton-Tech and started couch hopping mostly with Tucker, the Mansons still hated his guts. He had dropped out of School in favor of finding a job and hoped he would soon earn the money to get a place of his own. Refusing to take any of the money Sam tried to give him for a one room apartment.
Danny had understood he really had, despite Jazz overanalyzing him or his friends constantly questioning why he seemed to disassociate every now and then. Their worry got to the point that Jazz had decided that Danny needed a distraction that had nothing to do with ghosts, job hunting or his current sleeping arrangements. And that resulted in her convincing his friends in helping him find out more about his biological parents and any relatives he could additionally have. Surprisingly they hadn't had a lot of trouble finding out anything, though Danny suspected that it had a lot to do with some most likely very illegal hacking Tucker did.
Either way they had found out that Danny had originally come from Gotham, he apparently had an older brother. Who was the one that had given him up. There was a record of his home life having not been the best considering his registered mother had been recorded as a drug addict. He didn't blame that unknown older brother for giving Danny up for adoption, they most likely had wanted to protect Danny.
Of course that knowledge had been enough for Danny but not for his friends. And so Sam had gathered up all the money he had refused before, Jazz had packed up his bags and Tucker had organized a place for him as well as an entire file on how to best find his brother as well as a second safety file regarding the Bats in case they didn't like his ghostly presence. With that in hand the three had sent him off to Gotham making him promise to check in with them regularly and telling him that they would have everything in control in Amity until they could join him.
So after having been disowned by his parents, dropped out of school and more or less forced on a self discovery journey by his friends, he arrived in Gotham where the spirit of the town welcomed him like a lost son returning to their family. Let him tell you. Waking up in your hotel room in the middle of the night to an eldritch looking spirit hovering over your face welcoming you as her lost knight was not fun.
Additionally he hadn't planned on seeking his brother out but the Lady had been pretty insistent and so Danny did end up seeking him out. The files Tucker had provided were top notch. Ancients, his best friend had even figured out that his brother was essentially Red Hood aka Jason Todd-Wayne (he did not freak out that his favorite vigilante was his brother, no he didn't). Even if Tucker hadn't then Lady Gotham would have told him by trying to get him to reconnect with them using his alter Phantom. How in the name of Ancients did Lady Gotham even know about that?!
Of course reconnecting hadn't been easy and after several confidence boosting calls with his sister and friends as well as late night visits from the city's spirit, he had finally approached Red Hood as Phantom first. Which led to him realizing that his brother had corrupted ectoplasm in his system that needed to be removed asap. Well their first meeting ended up with Phantom sticking his hand into Red Hood's chest on instinct to remove all the corrupted ectoplasm.
Needless to say that first meeting ended with him getting chased throughout Crime Alley and getting bullets that couldn't even hurt him, shot at him. It took him a week to clear that misunderstanding as well as come clean to his older bio-brother. And then it took another week to reveal all the hidden truths like how he died and became half-ghost, how his brother had apparently also died and got brought back wrong which explained the corrupted ectoplasm, and how they both took up the vigilante badges. After the initial problems they had gotten along pretty well very quickly and Jason had become the elder brother to Danny that he always had wanted to be before having given him up for adoption.
Of course the other bats apparently got wind of his existence pretty quickly which ended after another week with Danny learning that his brothers entire family were vigilantes too. No he hadn't been suspicious of Bruce at first after his brother had told him of his adoption by a billionaire. Shut up, he did not check out the entire Manor invisible which led to him finding the Bat Cave and figuring out they were, what Danny liked to call, Gotham's furry brigade. Okay he did but he blames his obsession with protections and told his brother that much to which he got his hair ruffled.
Of course the moment Bruce Wayne got to know about this he had been interrogated about his relation to Jason, him coming to Gotham and his status as Phantom and half-ghost to which his brother ended up ready to throw hands with his own adopted father. Danny had first thought him to be a fruitloop but then once the man was satisfied, they had pretty quickly moved him from his hotel room to the manor and flat out told him that he would help him become a better vigilante.
Because apparently the moment they knew, Jason's adopted siblings did their research in regards to Phantom and found out that he still had a lot to learn and they could teach him how to become better at the whole hero stick, including balancing his day and night life.
So five weeks, after meeting his brother and reconnecting, later with Danny working part-time at Wayne Enterprise during the day that started as a cover for him but quickly got serious the moment Tim found out he was apparently brilliant (Which honestly, he was not. He was just obsessed with space.) That also resulted in signing him up for science classes and then upgrading his part time job from errand boy to the Aerospace Department Assistant.
So now after months spent in Gotham and deciding to stay there, his sister and friends pretty much told him that he was making the best decision of his life for once after seeing the progress he had made in balancing his hero life as well as getting a job and proper schooling. The Waynes also pretty much all but officially adopted him into the family. His brothers siblings even had referred to him several times as a brother too and Danny didn't know how many times he had told a reporter now that, 'Yes, he was Jason's biological brother.', 'No he was not a Wayne like is brother.', 'No, he was not getting adopted by Bruce too.' and 'No he would not attend any of the Galas the Waynes go to.'
Really the media watching the Waynes was probably only waiting for Bruce to announce an adoption. His friends, sister and even Jason, that traitor, had a bet running on how much longer Danny could tell Bruce no. Seriously, he was going to be 18 in three years anyway, why was everyone so interested in his adoption status when he was going to be a legal adult in a couple of years anyway. Besides his first adoption didn't work out, why would they think he would just agree to be adopted again? They did not know his true thoughts on this though.
Danny yawned as he made his way over to his workplace. He had a project to finish and a special meeting with Tim later today. He was the youngest Aerospace Engineer Assistant of Wayne Enterprise in their department but that didn't mean he wasn't as good as the others at least according to Tim anyway. His obsession with space was probably the only reason he was so good and had corrected at least five equations of his colleagues.
Dick would probably scowl him and Damian if he heard his thoughts would drag him to another training that was supposed to boost his self-confidence that hopefully involved less stabbing than the last one he had been dragged to. He should have never gifted a Fanton ecto-sword to the kid. It had been for his collection not special stabby training!
Really he had come to love his brother's siblings and he knew they meant well but he was self-aware. (Jazz and Jason would very much like to disagree here.) Besides it was already enough with the way they had accepted him into the family and apparently kept referring to him as brother despite the fact that he wasn't.
Speaking of which, his phone vibrated with the bat-chat going off about today's patrol and who was supposed to mentor him today.
+++++++++++++++++++++
IseeThings: Hey Ghost-Bro, you with me after your work for patrol?"
AnimalHeaven: Thomas, Father promised that Daniel is with me tonight.
OnMyChandelier: This is unfair. Baby Ghost, why don't you come visit me in Bludhaven?
OneShotKill: Butt off Dick. Spooks is with me tonight! Gotta show him the ropes of how to bust drug deals the correct way.
CantSenseMe: 😕🥺👻🥷🦸‍♂️👌
WhoNeedsSleep: I hate to say it guys. But he IS with Duke today.
IseeThings: Phantom and Signal, the Power Duo!
AnimalHeaven: Unacceptable.
WhoNeedsSleep: Look there is a big Project tomorrow morning WE needs him for. He needs sleep.
OneShotKill: Rich coming from you, Replacement.
HuntingMeHuntingYou: Guys, Tim is right, I am with Duke today.
IseeThings: GUYS! DAMIAN IN MY ROOM WITH A KNIFE!!
++++++++++++++++++++++
Danny couldn't help the grin at the cover Tim gave him for tomorrow morning when he would have to go to the legal office for the last of his papers. Thank the Ancients he had asked him for help with his little surprise for everyone. It also helped that Jason was keeping Bruce off his back.
"I really hope they will like the surprise, getting kicked out a second time won't be fun…" Danny muttered as he put his phone back into his pocket. He glanced at the innocent looking brown folder on his desk and Ancients, was he nervous.
Tim had assured him several times that it would be okay and that the others would be overjoyed. Jason had even made him call Jazz to help him calm down and get reassurance from her as well. They told him that what he was going to do was alright with them but he couldn't help but be nervous.
Yes they had welcomed him into the family but this was a whole other level he wasn't sure how they would react to it. For a brief moment Danny wondered if he would get to experience Damian's stabbynes without having to rile up the little guy or be dragged to train with him.
"You're worrying too much again." A cup of coffee was placed on his table as he looked up sharply at Tim who stood next to him sipping on his own cup of death wish.
"Shouldn't you be in a meeting?" Taking a sip of the offered cup Danny smiled, thank the Ancients that he and Tim had the same taste in coffee. Even if the others kept saying it's unhealthy, even making Jason question their blood relation at times.
"Still got some time. I wanted to make sure you're still good and not freaking out like that time you first saw the Riddler, little bro." The older shrugged and Danny glared lightly. They were going to hold it over him for the rest of his life. So what if he freaked out when he met the Riddler for the first time. Sue him, the guy is dressed in so much green he couldn't help but think that the guy got dipped in ectoplasm to the point he tried to soup him only to end up throwing the thermos at the guy's face in a panic when that didn't work. He had been glowing for Ancients sake!
"Just go to your meeting." Grumbling, he turned away from the Co-CEO that apparently liked to check on him way too much between his breaks and opened his company's provided laptop with the latest status and calculations of the latest engine he had been working on.
A week later Danny was pacing in his room. Everyone else was already down at the family dinner, Alfred had organized and Danny was most likely the only one missing. He had a call with Jazz earlier. Confirming with her once again that what he was going to do was really really alright with her. Even if his former parents had disowned him it would never change the fact that Jazz was his sister, Ancients even Jason had assured him about that fact.
"Okay Danny, you can do that. You faced worse things. This is gonna be childsplay."
A knock on his door startled him out of his pacing and Danny ended up floating a little as his brother opened his door and peaked in. "You okay there little spooks?"
"'m fine!" He hurriedly said as Jason raised an eyebrow. Danny just grabbed the still innocently looking brown folder and pushed the elder out of his room who only chuckled and ruffled his hair.
"You know I haven't thank you yet for making me win that bet."
"Ancients, you just changed your bet with my friends when I told you my plan!"
"Still won it."
"Let's just go down."
Once they arrived in the dining room Danny couldn't help but swallow as he took a seat next to Jason and noted how everyone plus extended / unofficial family was there. The brown folder lay innocently across his lap and he could see Damian eyeing it from the corner of his eyes. Great if the youngest had already seen it then the others surely had noticed Danny carrying around that folder with him too. How was he going to bring it up now? Should he do it now or wait? It wasn't too late to just run now? He could disintegrate it, but that would make all the help Tim gave him for nothing. Maybe-
A pat on his shoulder brought him out of his starting spiral and Danny looked up at Jason who was nodding with his head in Bruce's direction. Tim was also giving him an encouraging smile and also motioned for him to get it over with. Did the two know he was contemplating running away now? He shook his head.
Okay he could do it. Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves Danny cleared his throat, gaining everyone's attention.
"Uhm, Bruce? I was wondering…" The words good stuck in his throat but the man in question looked at him waiting for him patiently as the others slowly quieted down giving him curious looks except for Jason and Tim. "...could you maybe take a look at these papers?"
He carefully slid the folder over the table but with nothing in his hands now he started wringing the end of his shirt. "Maybe you could sign them, you know, just for legality."
"I thought Jason was your legal guardian? Why would Bruce need to sign when Jason could…" Dick looked confused at first but trailed off when he leaned over to get a glimpse of the papers Bruce had been leafing through before the man froze.
There was a long moment of silence before Dick suddenly sprung up from his seat nearly vaulting over the table and hugged Danny squealing and confusing everyone else at the table. While Bruce finally unfroze, opening his mouth to ask Alfred for a pen that the butler was already holding out to him with a knowing smile.
"It is legal now, Daniel James Todd-Wayne."
