My personal ranking of named Daleks from the TV show and Big Finish. These are the Daleks that I have gotten to know from watching or listening to the stories they are a part of.
I've scored Dalek Sec's human hybrid form lower than I wanted mainly because we didn't get to see a lot of him.

Random Doctor Who Facts You Might Not Know, Part 33: Gallifrey at War Part 5
Same TWs as normal for these parts - Time War shit, body horror, death, some reproductive concerns. Also, again, sorry if there are ever any repeats; I don't always remember if I've already mentioned something or not lmao
During the early Time Wars, Gallifrey went to war against the Charons, who had the ability to manipulate the very fabric of the universe. The Time Lords erased them from history.
The Last Great Time War was so devastating that the pre-Time War universe is different from the post-Time War universe (with the actual Time War itself being time locked in its own reality).
Compassion's biodata was warped until she became a Type 102 TARDIS. The Eighth Doctor took her and Fitz on the run in part because the Time Lords were hunting her down to use as sentient breeding stock for new TARDISes.
The Enemy used the anarchitects as a weapon during the War in Heaven. Anarchitects are disembodied intelligences that can live in infrastructure and manipulate it to rebuild it the way they want. They can make bridges disappear as you walk over them, straight hallways become impossible labyrinths, and make the space you are in unbearably small or large in an instant.
Tardigrades are intelligent enough that they can run mental simulations of the entire universe and solve complex equations that would allow them to manipulate reality itself. War strategists were convinced that they would eventually redefine history their own way and alter fixed points.
During the Eternal War, the forces of Gallifrey pushed the forces of the Yssgaroth back into their own universe. This took well over a thousand years, however, and in doing so billions died and entire star systems destroyed.
The Ninth Doctor and Rose became involved in this war when they arrived during the Kotturuh crisis. At this point, Gallifrey had not gained mastery over time, so Rassilon and his people were called Space Lords. During this time, Rose was turned into a vampire and attacked the Doctor a couple times before he cured her.
The Eternal War was so violent that the Time Lords rejected the use of violence forever. This is clearly true, and anyone who says otherwise is feeding you anti-Gallifreyan propaganda. I know this because our great Lord Rassilon told me himself.
Rassilon purposefully turned Gallifrey (which originally orbited a single sun) into a binary star system to kill all the vampires, even those resistant to a single sun's natural rays.
Because of the Eternal War, Rassilon's throne is made up of the bones of giant bats.
During the Last Great Time War, the Daleks tried to use nanobots on all the adults on a planet to make a mirror Gallifrey. The War Doctor defeated them by using a virus that killed every single adult. Thus, in one fell swoop, he orphaned the whole planet.
The War Doctor was the inspiration behind the Nightmare Child.
The War Council gave the Doctor tasks to complete as an assassin. One of the tasks given to him was to assassinate the Barber-Surgeon.
The password to the archway leading to the Barber-Surgeon's domain is 'Theta Sigma.'
The population of Carter Baross had been harvested by the Daleks to make cyborgs out of them. The Time Lords destroyed the entire planet, and the only survivor was named Case, who was saved by the War Doctor because he thought she would make a good weapon.
The War Doctor placed the planet of Lacuna in a time loop on the day before its destruction and spent hundreds of loops trying again and again to save it. After failing again and again, he was eventually convinced to end the loop.

I've been listening to a lot of Doctor Who audio books recently and have I ever talked about how much I adore their Dalek characters? I doubt it. But dear god every conversation anyone ever has with the Time Strategist.
I'm listening to He Who Wins (for the third time) and every time the Strategist says "Master", it's like he wants to throw up. Like he hates every second of it. Like ew, like ugh, like if Daleks could shudder.
I feel like we haven't had good Dalek characters with personalities since the Cult of Skaro, or maybe Rusty. But god I long for a Strategist-esque character in the show itself because he's always so delightful to listen to.
Also the first time the Prime Strategist (different person) says 'exterminate' is so chilling. Seriously have you ever heard a calm 'exterminate'?
We don't need a break from Daleks! We just need better Daleks! Pls!

8 and 20 for the time lord oc asks <3
- @presidentdisastraofgallifrey
8. Are they disabled? If so how?
Dela: There's something up with her brain I think. I'm not actually sure what, but there's something. more to think about
Patok has PTSD from his first regeneration. He's also got his share of smaller injuries from the guard, that aren't necessarily disabling but in the sum to cause him a fair bit of pain regularly
Obnik here (autism mainly)
Lanro is an amputee, he doesn't have a right arm. He's also got a lot of burn scars
Dolin is blind in one eye. He's also definitely got PTSD
Rolenva has ADHD and autism. And dermatophagia (skin biting)
20. Do they fight in the Time War? Do they escape?
hehe. SO GLAD YOU ASKED. now I am going to give you answers, but I may be lying for all of these. In good or bad directions. Or well, not lying, just passing of alternate timelines as the real one. that said:
Dela stays with the CIA at least as long as Narvin and Romana. She becomes a lot closer to Romana in this time. She regenerates at least once. After that, she is a spy. Mostly on Gallifrey, but for more risky missions all throughout the war too. Who she is spying for? stay tuned
Patok gets conscripted early on. He regenerates quite a few times, but eventually escapes to join the resistance. He makes it out when Gallifrey is saved by the Doctor, but he is on his last regeneration by then, and dies not long after
Obnik is not made for war. He makes himself small, just does his job, and Dela manages to get him to a quiet research station outside the capitol. I'm not sure whether he makes it out
Rolenva does a lot of undercover missions. They survive, but the person she used to be is gone. potentially literally
Lanro gets sent on missions all the time. One day they don't return. No one knows what happened
Dolin is a commander, a strategist. He works for the war room. When Lanro doesn't return, he loses it. The tale of how he died slaughtering hundreds of Daleks with his bare hands earns him legendary status among the soldiers
link to ask game
#I said there was time war angst#so now you get a glimpse of it#again. all of these could happen. none of these could happen#also i need to study dela's brain because there's something there but I'm not sure what#it's kind of hard too because dela is the one who's got the most of my inner voice#dela#patok#rolenva#lanro#obnik#gallifrey lower decks#dolin#jae says stuff#ask game

Thank you for information on the Time Controller. I would like more data on the ranks of old and new Dalek empires?
In the current Dalek hierarchy, the Dalek Parliament utilised Dalek Squadron Leaders to command a single Assault Cruiser worth of Daleks. These would often be utilised for small scale attacks or operations, though would usually be part of a larger fleet. The Neo-Imperial would utilise Red Paradigm Drones in a similar command capacity. In combat situations, both units often command on the frontline, leading the charge alongside their fellow drones, though boasting a stronger force field and inbuilt enhanced transmitter-receivers.
Above the Assault Leaders/Paradigm drones would be Dalek Commanders. These would normally command small fleets of Daleks, normally consisting of half a dozen assault cruisers and a single command battle cruiser. The purpose of Dalek Commanders was to typically command the invasion and, if it’s resources were of value, occupation of a planet. By the time of the Parliament/Neo-Imperial Civil War, Commanders were specifically bred to replace the older battle computers, even possessing a private Dalek Pathweb with other Dalek Commanders.
The highest rank in the Dalek military hierarchy, Dalek Supremes have been known through history to be feared Dalek leaders, often reporting directly to an Emperor. In the current time, Dalek Supremes command vast warfleets, consisting of dozens battlecruisers and assault cruisers, and commanded from the feared Exterminator-class Dreadnoughts. These fleets could hold vast sectors of space, and would often be designated for direct warfare with other galactic powers. Dalek Supremes rarely ventured out into direct battle, instead commanding from their flagship or Dalek bases, surrounded by host of Dalek Strategists and Analysts as they dished out orders.
The Dalek Parliament, as the name would suggest, is commanded by the Parliament of the Dalek, a body consisting of nearly a hundred supreme Daleks. This would be commanded by the Dalek Prime Minister and the Supreme Overseer, a unique Supreme Dalek intended to fulfil the role of the now deceased original Dalek Supreme of the New Dalek Paradigm. The Parliament was established to avoid the potential poor decision making of a single leader, notably the descent into madness many Emperors have undergone.
The Dalek Parliament also incorporated several special advisors, including the Dalek Time Strategist, who would be charged with monitoring threats to the Dalek timeline, as well as any opportunity for the Dalek to regain temporal technology; the Dalek Prime Strategist, an ancient Dalek from the first generation of Daleks who had developed a keen strategist Mind from watching thousands of Dalek victories and defeats; and the Dalek Litigator, a Dalek strangely concentrated on law. Quite an odd position, given how little concern Daleks have for order outside their own command structure.
Meanwhile, the Neo-Imperial Faction are lead by the Supreme Council, a triumvirate consisting of the three surviving Daleks of the New Dalek Paradigm, saved by the Dalek Chief scientist after the Siege of the Arkheion Device by extracting their mind through the path web and placing them into new bodies. The Council consists of the Chief Strategist, in command of Military Operations; the Chief Scientist, who commanded all scientific and technological endeavours; and the Dalek Eternal, once simply charged with chartering the history of Dalek engagements, it now serves as the leader of the council, having absorbed the remnant memory engrams of the two deceased Paradigm Council members to command more efficiently. However, the Supreme Council is only a temporary position, as the trio seek to create a new Dalek Emperor to once more lead the Daleks.
At their earliest, the Daleks were led by the Dalek Prime, one of the very first Daleks created on Skaro. This Dalek would become the first Dalek Emperor, and after its death, would be inspire several other Emperors, including an alter ego of Davros himself. In the interims where the Daleks had no Emperor, they would often be led by a council of Supreme Daleks.
As well as the various Daleks, there were also a number of other specialised ranks such as Dalek Strategists, Scientists, Analysts and Executioners who would often be assigned a squad under their command. A unique squad consisting of the Dalek Time Commander, Dalek Time Scientist and Dalek Time Executioner commanded a specialised squad in tandem with the Dalek Time Strategist. Other roles included Pilot Daleks, who manned their saucers, gunships and other craft, Reconnaissance Daleks, who scouted out potential target worlds, and Special Weapon Dalek, formidable heavy weapons unit with immensely powerful primary cannon.
However, while the Neo-Imperials were content to stop there, the Dalek Parliament saw fit to experiment with Dalek models, down to their genetics. These produced curious variants including Spider Daleks, Glider Daleks and, perhaps the most formidable breed of Dalek created, the Dalek Berserker. These formidable creatures have been bred to the point of insanity, killing anything and everything in their way, even fellow Daleks. Adding to powerful weapons, they possess the ability reconstitute their casing, often incorporating nearby material into their bodies, including organic material and other Daleks. With such a force even they cannot control, Daleks only use their Berserkers when a planet is worth so little to them that there is only one option - total extermination.

Random Doctor Who Facts You Might Not Know, Part 46: Gallifrey at War Part 7
Spoiler warning for new content - Dark Gallifrey: Morbius.
The Doctor was involved in the Last Great Time War for millions of days. (Novel: The Day of the Doctor)
While on the planet Dust, the Third Doctor was shot in the chest by Magdalena Bishop and left to die in the street. Sarah Jane found Jim and cradled his head as he slowly began to regenerate. He thought this was very, very wrong. This weakened the Doctor's immune system, leading to the Doctor's infection with a biodata virus, which by the time of the Eighth incarnation would convert the Doctor to the perspective of the Faction Paradox. (Novel: Interference - Book Two)
As a result of this virus, the Eighth Doctor had lost his shadow. (Novel: Unnatural History)
A ghost of the original timeline's Third Doctor remained in the TARDIS databank. When the TARDIS was corrupted into the Edifice and the Edifice hung over Gallifrey, the Eighth Doctor used the TARDIS defense systems to destroy Gallifrey and Kasterborous, making the universe choose between the new timeline or the Metebelis timeline the TARDIS remembered. (Novel: The Ancestor Cell)
The civil war Morbius was involved in - usually called the Great Schism - involved the Time Lords using time as a weapon for bloodshed for the first time. (Audio: Morbius) This would technically make it a time war.
Early Time Lords destroyed the Hydran homeworld by dropping their own future on top of it. (Audio: Morbius)
By some accounts, the High Council was nervous to engage directly with the universe during this civil war as that was exactly what Morbius had said they should do, so they fought using a proxy- the Fifth Doctor. (Novel: Warmonger)
While the Supreme Coordinator, the Fifth Doctor wore a black military uniform. The Doctor’s army was composed of a mix of Sontarans, Cybermen, Ogrons, Draconians, and Ice Warriors. They defeated Morbius's forces, but the Doctor made sure Morbius would survive his 'death.' (Novel: Warmonger)
The final battle of Morbius's civil war occurred on Karn and resulted in the deaths of most of both armies as well as Karn's native population. (Short story: The Legacy of Gallifrey)
During the Vampire Wars, Gallifrey developed Anathema - a warship the size of an entire planet. It was armed with the Cold, a weapon so devastating it would break through the space-time continuum and suck everything into an alternate universe. (Novel: Interference - Book Two)
After regenerating on Karn, the War Doctor refused to allow his TARDIS to be equipped with weaponry (she would have been block transferred into a battle TARDIS) as he did not want to force her to change as he had. (Audio: Light the Flame)
Cass Fermazzi was present at the Battle of Skull Moon and was so horrified by the massacre that it embittered her to the Time Lords. (Novel: The Day of the Doctor) This hatred ironically led to the Eighth Doctor regenerating into the War Doctor, the precise incarnation who earned the title "the Butcher of Skull Moon."
The Dalek Time Strategist tried to manipulate the Eighth Doctor by finding an alternate universe version of Alex - his dead great grandson - and putting him in cryogenic stasis. The Doctor took the casket he was in and woke him up. (Audio: Restoration of the Daleks)
Bliss had been a companion of the Eighth Doctor, but due to changes in the timeline as a result of the Last Great Time War, this changed, leaving the Doctor and Alex without memory of Bliss. However, the Doctor felt as though someone was missing. They would eventually learn of Bliss from a memory recorder. (Audio: Vespertine)
Indeed, the Doctor eventually recalled enough to tell River Song about Bliss at some point. (Audio: Companion Piece)

"You cannot escape, Doctor." "He's not currently in right now!"
Ragged hands flick down a switch that silences The Dalek Time Ship's open-channel broadcast. The grating voices of his oldest enemies were more taxing on the ears than normal for The Renegade without a title: The Doctor of War, he was called. Although it was a name he despised. Not The Doctor. He was always firm about it. Although, today, he wasn't really thinking about it. He was just escaping. He had been left for dead, essentially. The CIA— their director, was once again at odds with The Renegade. A crackle and a surge from the incoming projectile fire that his TARDIS narrowly avoided reminded him of the circumstances that had gotten him involved. The Timelords were after a resource The Daleks also wanted, to win the war. In an attempt to draw Daleks off themselves, they sicked their enemies on something they viewed to be a bigger fish: Him.
Now the console room was shaking and sparking with a surging of electrical blasts and screams of flame that ignited from the bursted wires and electrical poppings. Things on the console were absolutely in horrendous shape. The War Doctor was in a worse shape, too. Some raw shards of glass that had exploded off of the diodes and meters in the console had slashed his hands and face. His baggy outfit acted as padding, but there were still bruises and some cracked ribs from violently crashing into the console. There was probably also a concussion— but The Timelord was operating on so much adrenaline that he was powering through it like a workhorse. One hand stayed gripped on the TARDIS control monitor, but another reached for a steering lever. Carefully, he honed in on a set of readings his navigational computers were projecting... and almost methodically, a plan formed in his head.
~
On The Dalek Commandship, The Dalek Time Strategist observed the battleship's pursuit of The TARDIS through a zoomed-in lens on the eyestalk, which was connected to a dome resting on the vibrant purple casing. Wearing armor that would adorn a member of the Dalek War Council or even that of a Dalek Supreme, his purple and gold casing was made unique by a series of rings upon his crown-like chassis additions, and the neck section of his upper mid-section contained a very violent power source. This fearsome Tactictian and Battle Computer watched with emotional undertones that weren't normally native to any Dalek. However... he was not a normal Dalek. He was a Strategist. Those who were effective in combat had to think through less... rigid groundings, but that creative freedom could not allow for rebellion. Predecessors to The General had tried to usurp The Emperor... but the Strategist knew his place. Now that, of course, he had a worthy opponent like... this current incarnation of The Doctor, to keep him satisfied.
But other matters would draw The Strategist's attention away. For now, at the very least. However, The Strategist would return to personally oversee The Doctor's demise if it was not already accomplished by the time the battle computer had acquired total and ultimate victory for it's emperor. It turned its eyestalk towards a Bronze Dalek piloting the weaponry of their saucer. In a voice smooth and chilling compared to that of the standard Dalek,
"Order a section of the fleet to continue pursuit of The Doctor... we must resume our pursuit of The Director and her task force..." The Time Strategist began to order that hyperspace engines be primed for an immediate temporal jump before one of The Daleks occupying the navigational scanners barked an alert.
"ALERT! ALERT! THE DOCTOR IS PILOTING THE TARDIS INTO A SPATIAL RIFT!" It turned its dome so that its eyestalk could meet The Strategist's, "CALCULATIONS SHOW THAT AN EXPLOSION COULD RESULT IN TOTAL DETONATION OF THIS SOLAR SYSTEM!" The Time Strategist looked toward the screen, seeing that indeed there was some kind of rupture within subspace that The Doctor's TARDIS was spinning towards, quickly! This went against the prior observational danger of the timelord. He would not condemn innocents for such a pitiful thing as escaping with his life. The familiar, Dalek-like feeling of hatred bubbled up within the strategist.
"This action goes against The Doctor's nature! RECONFIRM CALCULATIONS!!" "NAVIGATIONAL DATA SHOWS A 100% CERTAINTY!" "DESTROY HIM!!!! EXTERMINATE HIM AT ONCE!!!!"
~
"If I can hit my fast return switch..." The Warrior mumbles as sweat trickles down his brow. He has to precisely calculate this jump. His hand rests on a switch he has to hit at the precise second he collides with the wall. "The Daleks are still in pursuit..." He chuckled, eyes narrowing as he licked his top lip softly, "He's not going to break off pursuit of me... He'll follow me inside if he has to." The War Doctor mumbled, keeping the lever he was holding level so that he was sure he was making his way toward the rift.
"But if I can... dematerialize at just the right moment... I can make The Daleks hit the wall." The Renegade grinned, "Like a silly little road-runner cartoon... you stupid pepperpots." He chuckled, almost maniacally about it before he shrugged. He thinks now, that the pain is starting to get to him in a way that's making him more openly malicious, but he knows this is the fatigue of The War as well, causing him to embrace his darker roots. His more viscous nature. His thoughts embrace of darker thoughts... tendencies, even as he continues, "And if I don't survive... well..." He narrows his gaze, eyes going dark. "I don't survive." He suddenly slams the lever down and flicks the switch he has to switch. The entire console room suddenly implodes into a bright white light... and in a different timeline, a passing ship is caught in a blast from a nearby spatial rift of similar origin.
~
"WE ARE GOING TO IMPACT THE RIFT." "Maintain Pursuit." "WE WILL BE DESTROYED AS WELL—" "We must exterminate THE DOCTOR. MAINTAIN. PURSUIT!!"
EVERYTHING GOES WHITE.
~
consciousness RETURNS in a flicker, seemingly all at once as well. The War Doctor wakes up, looking at an ALL-WHITE VOID. He sits up, sluggishly... shoulders sagging and face numb as he looks up toward nothingness. He can see some parts floating in... seemingly... frozen time around him. His eyes blink heavily as he moves to start feeling his body. He feels corporeal, feels real. "Arms... legs... that's good— I lived— always fun when that happens..." He hums quietly before feeling his head, stopping when he realizes quite sillily that he didn't wear a hat. He shook his head and moved to stand up quietly, wincing in pain when he did so. In the distance, he could make out an object. Heading toward it allowed it to come into a clearer picture. As it looked to be some type of room...
"A passing spaceship? Maybe it scraped along the rift when I crashed into it..?" He mumbled, knowing that The Time War was leaking out into all sorts of universes that it didn't belong to, which was causing simply a ruckus of all kinds. Heaving heavily, he moved towards one of the doors, as it looked like the only way into the section of the spaceship that had clipped into the void was through a hallway. Moving to press a switch, The War Doctor's eyes trailed into the room...
"You."
Shock. Fear.
It couldn't be.
