Job update ☁️:

So I originally posted on my story about applying to EPIK, but in the end I decided it wasn’t the right fit for me housing wise 😬 so I started to look into other options !

I decided to contact a load of recruiters whilst I waited for my application result to come back (I still haven’t heard anything) and since I showed interest quite early, I didn’t actually expect much - BUT! I ended up weeding through some offers and eventually agreed to interview with one that I’d liked the sound of.

I did some v important deep diving the night before my interview, and I found nothing but positive comments! - especially from the parents who send their children to the school - and it really gave me such good vibes!! (I also found their Instagram and it was v cute 🤭 lmaoo)

Fast forward to the interview, and it was so nice !! The people I spoke to felt warm, and I could tell that our teaching philosophies matched well. On top of that, the work life and curriculum style seemed really good (I’m excited to do a cooking class lmaoo) and I was also able to speak to an English teacher that’s currently working there, and it was really helpful to hear her experiences and insight into things !

After the interview, I exchanged a few texts with the school director, which made everything feel even more friendly ☺️ and not long later, I got a message from my recruiter letting me know that I’d been offered the job!

When the contract had been sent over, my boyfriend and I both read through it (since it was written in English and Korean) and after a couple amendments were made, I decided to sign !!

My start date is September 1st, but I’m looking to head over there in mid-August so I can settle in ! The school also provides me with 5 days of paid training - which is RARE - so it’ll feel good going into the job feeling prepared !

I’m soo excited (and a little nervous lmao) for the next chapter of my life !! Especially since it’ll be taking place in the city of bread 🤭🍞🥖🥐🥯🥨!

South Korea: The Jangtaesan Recreational Forest

A beautiful day for a hike in nature. The Jangtaesan Recreational Forest just south of Daejeon is perfect for such a ‘Forest Adventure’. Various hiking paths and facilities like tree top walks, view tower or suspension bridge invites for exploring the nature there. But it wouldn’t be called ‘recreational forest’ without having a picnic area under the trees with relaxing chairs and coffee…

In the In-Between

The first semester was very busy, especially with the short-term intern from Germany I was tasked to oversee aside from teaching work.

However, by the grace of God, not only was I able to supervise the intern well, but I was also able to the extra admin load after one of the staff had to leave for the mission field.

STUDENT UPDATES

Two of our students graduated recently, Calvin in December, and Seajin in June. Calvin is now back in South Africa and doing well with his college work, and Seajin is getting ready to go back with her family to their mission in Turkiye, where she will continue to prepare for university admissions in the us.

Ruth went back to Senegal as her family continues god's mission there.

Seyoon and He yoon are now in the Philippines to start their new mission in Cebu.

NEWLETTER

I didn't want to say much in this update; rather I wanted you to hear updates of the school from the students themselves. I was blessed to oversee the newspaper club, and am beyond excited to share to you the wonderful newsletter we prepared. Some of things included share the students' honest opinions, so it is refreshing to see how the new generation thinks.

PLEASE PRAY FOR US

Summer classes are open! I opened summer classes to help students prepare for the next semester. The music teachers are also meeting with the students so that their progress in their chosen instruments will continue during the break. Please pray that the students will continue to give their best this summer, while still being able to enjoy their vacation.

Please pray for financial support. The average cost of living in Korea KRW 1,600,000 (around $1,400). Since majority of the students' tuition go to administration fees, it has barely been able to give KRW 500,000 to each staff in the recent years.

Pray for my visa situation. In order to extend my visa, I have opted to start a consulting business. I need to plan out this business and be able to earn KRW 2,000,000 a month (including support raised) in order to extend my visa.
