movies are better than games because a bad movie will be like 90 minutes of your life and you can kinda laugh about it afterwards. 90 minutes of a bad game is like, oh you got through the intro and tutorial, maybe it gets good later, better sink more of my precious existence here on earth doing absolute bullshit over and over

something about my upbringing makes me only take people seriously if they are humble enough. like sometimes i will encounter a too-online person with a handle like "Professor Sensei SmartDoctor" who regularly hypes up their own experience and intelligence and like sorry dude you blew it, you're basically a clown to me

star trek episode where a planet's legal system is based around debate but it turns out you lose if you get mad and every prosecutor is just a professional troll so the captain gets in big trouble when he tries to make an impassioned speech about how morals and truth should be the basis for justice and they have to send a vulcan down to be his unflappable defense but he's no good at getting under their adversary's skin so eventually they sneak in a holo emitter and the guy on the crew who's really into late 20th/early 21st century culture conjures up a simulation/celebrity cameo of tom green who proceeds to be so annoying they win the day and the captain is freed and then back on the bridge they're like "i guess what we really learned here is..." and tom green is there going "my bum is on the bridge! the enterprise bridge!" i'm still workshopping the ending

in Adventure Island IV for the NES, you have a cute girlfriend who just hangs out at the house and waves goodbye when you go out exploring. this is peak gaming.

i usually skim that "does the dog die" site to see if there's anything that will really skeeve me out. i looked up The Substance before watching it and one of the things was "Warning for vegans: Man eats cooked shrimp in restaurant" and i was like, oh they'll put anything on here now.
after watching it, i gotta say: in a movie full of deranged, disgusting, cronenbergian imagery, dennis quaid did in fact somehow make eating shrimp in a restaurant one of the most viscerally revolting moments in the film.

some child (i have to assume) in a game developer discord bemoaned the fracturing of modern social media and wistfully stated that "the internet was fine 10 years ago" and now i'm having war flashbacks to what was happening in game developer spaces online in 2014

"save me, substance abuse!" i cry. before you can moralize to me about the dangers of addiction, a noble and powerful steed gallops into the room - my horse whom i have named "substance abuse". you learn an important lesson about making assumptions. i snort a line off its back
