NCIS: NOLA is such an underrated show.
It features a wide array of minority characters, including one of the first openly gay main characters on primetime TV, and a disabled POC character played by a disabled POC actor.
Interracial and same-sex relationships are prominent among main, recurring, and secondary characters, as well as platonic friendships that are loved just as much as romantic ships.
The characters have complex, well-developed backstories that don’t fit into typical molds. Episode plots don’t just focus on the military and the government; relevant social issues in all age groups and classes are prevalent, including gangs, violence, drugs, prejudice, mental health, and racism.
One main character has a brother with bipolar disorder, another has two foster sons. All of these characters are 3-dimensional and seen as equally important as any others, with storylines that highlight specific issues people like them face (the same is true for all characters, and their unique traits and experiences). The most prominent theme of the show is that you don’t have to be related by blood to be family, and is evidenced in every episode.

I'm so glad Taylor dropped Serayah. Not only was she a fake friend, but she's also now saying Dwayde Wane's daughter Zaya is "going through a phase". I don't get why so many people think she'll have her operation now. And Dwayde is just being a good dad who just want his kids to be happy.
From what I have seen on Twitter some African American people believe that African American children are getting their minds whorped by white culture. Also some people seem to think that Zaya is having a sex change which is completely false. Some people identify as something other than their biological sex and don’t transgender.

My Blog Post #3
In my discussion today, we watched a short clip that was found on Youtube titled, “3Peat Presents: The Blackening - Uncensored” which was originally published on Comedy Central and went viral via social media. It was a 4:22 video portraying a satirical facts regarding black lives. So the story went like this. A white man is looking to break into a home and kill one member of the friends squad. The friends squad is a group of a mixed age range of black individuals looking for an escape. Dwayde says that the white man is looking for whoever is the “blackest”. Although we may laugh at this line, it comes from truth. For example, in almost every horror film or even in any scene where someone has to die, it usually is a black person who is considered “non relevant”. Throughout this comedic Youtube clip, the friends make up excuses to prove who is the “whitest” one there, in order to avoid being slaughtered by the white man. The comments being said were funny yet filled with stereotypes. Some of the excuses that were being said were, “I let my daughter daughter call me a bitch”. This one really made me laugh. I noticed how not only is it a stereotype but it is in fact true. I see many Americanized families that allow their children to talk to their parents in such a dirty tone, that it truly boggles my mind as to why this is allowed. In my family, having a Moroccan father and an Israeli mother, I wouldn't even dream of raising my voice, let alone cursing. Any type of attitude or bad behavior will not fly in my household. Another racial remark that one of the characters used to prove their “blackness” was “Shantier smells like cocoa butter”. This is also very stereotypical because many people assume that only black people use cocoa butter because of their type of hair when in fact it isn't necessarily true. This is also stereotypical because since people see the models on the cocoa butter packaging they assume that it is only used and purchased by black individuals when in fact anyone can use it, regardless of their skin color. Lastly, the stereotype that was highly uncensored and proudly proved was that not only white people are accepted to be gay. Being gay has no restrictions and isn't closed off to white people only. This is shown when Torian says, “we all know that gayness is just whiteness”. I was happy the creators of this clip inserted that line because often people are accepting the concept of a white gay couple, but what about a black gay couple? I feel like the two are still not treated the same and its 2019, what is going on with our world?

Remember the episode where the two dads had their daughter abducted, and not once was it mentioned they were in a same-sex marriage (and an interracial one (where both people were POC) at that)? And that character who was an amputee, and it was in no way significant or relevant to the plot? NOLA normalises so many things that unfortunately most people and medias don’t, and it deserves more appreciation for these merits.
