The Fireflies’ vaccine wouldn’t have worked or why Joel did the right thing
In the last part of The Last of Us, Joel kills all the fireflies and saves Ellie but by doing so he may have doomed humanity by ending the possibility of a cure being made, making the ending bittersweet and morally ambiguous. The thing is, Joel didn't really do anything wrong, and saving Ellie was the right choice, here are my reasons:
The doctors would remove Ellie's brain to try to create a vaccine, but that's not how vaccines works, a vaccine is a tamed version of a pathogen that "teaches" your body to defend against it, to do a vaccine you need to use the pathogen in small quantities or a modified version of it, Ellie is immune to it, you don't create vaccines from the immune system, that's called a serum, and it works differently, a serum is used when someone comes in contact with a disease and it contains a series of antibodies that fight the infection, but it doesn't make anyone immune. So what they were trying to do was pointless;
Even if the doctors know what they were doing, it was a wild shot a with no guarantee that it would work;
Even if a vaccine was successfully made they wouldn't save the world, the world was destroyed 20 years ago, society collapsed and was rebuilt again on a new way, and everyone already new how to deal with it, also the greatest threat were not even the cordyceps fungus anymore, it was the infected (that the vaccine couldn't do nothing about) and the crooked humans that walked the earth. Besides that, the fireflies had no way to distribute the vaccine worldwide, not even in a national level.
If you listen to the tapes in the Colorado segment, it pretty much confirms that Ellie is not unique and they wouldn’t be able to make a vaccine anyway. The doctor has practically lost his mind and Ellie is just his white whale. Ellie was not the first subject and she most likely wouldn’t have been the last.
The doctor pretty much went against the common ethical code of all medical practitioners just for a CHANCE at a vaccine/cure.
And wouldn't it take a lot of time to study her? A day to do all the tests is outright impossible. Just look at the corona vaccine. With all the tech the world has the biotechnologists are going to take more than a year to make a vac.
Vaccines for Fungal infections are nearly impossible and are a logistical nightmare.Even in today’s world, they can only be treated with antibiotics and anti-fungal medicine. They didn’t even bother with thoroughly researching Ellie’s blood and trying to extract the fungal specimen without killing her. The tests were blood samples and samples from the area where she was bit and then only cutting her brain open as THE LAST POSSIBLE USE for her, then when their step 1 was "lol just kill this incredibly rare specimen" I was shocked.
BTW, PS4 version actually removed a piece of paper that's available in all the other forms of the game. What is this piece of paper? Just the one that describes how they've tried this process dozens of times before and how they've NEVER gotten any useful info.
The Fireflies are terrorists. The Fireflies are terrorists, and not even competent ones. Here we go. We first hear of the Fireflies in credits, where they are taking credit for attacking the Federal Disaster Response Agency. Not a good start. The next time we start to see hints of them is through graffiti in the quarantine zone. What does this graffiti say? Fireflies will take it all back. That sounds great! Burn it all down. ...oh. That’s, uh, a little less great. Fucking die, pig. Um… Uh, that’s uh, not a great look here guys. And that goes on and on. The graffiti does not exactly inspire. All it does is get angry.Next time we see them, it’s when they literally bomb a checkpoint and supply truck, then begin firing wildly all over the place. This is straight terrorism. They don’t care if there is collateral damage, in fact, Joel gets injured in this scene. Then we meet Marlene, the so-called Queen Firefly. Injured and on the run, the military is slowly wiping them out. This leads to a line of dialogue that is absolutely hilarious. Marlene starts to preach about “We’ve been quiet. Been planning on leaving the city, but they need a scapegoat. They’ve been trying to rile us up. We’re trying to defend ourselves”Those are big words from someone who just bombed a checkpoint. This clearly shows us that Marlene cannot be trusted as a narrator. She has an agenda and is lying to Joel and possibly herself. And that despite how effective guerrilla tactics usually are, her group is still managing to get absolutely devastated. They are failing so badly that they have to recruit smugglers just to try to get Ellie out of the city.So begins the trek showing dead Fireflies at every turn. Downtown subway station? Dead Fireflies. The Capitol building? Dead Fireflies. Pittsburgh? Oh, let’s talk about Pittsburgh.Pittsburgh is a monument to Firefly failure. Pittsburgh was originally another Quarantine zone held together by FEDRA. So what happened here? Well, times got hard, and the Fireflies instigated a civil war or insurrection. This fighting lasted for months, with Fireflies lynching soldiers that they caught alone, burning soldiers alive after dousing them in gasoline, and FEDRA retaliating by executing Fireflies. FEDRA finally gave up and retreated from Pittsburgh, putting the Fireflies in control- and then it all fell apart. The people of Pittsburgh discover that the Fireflies had planned to move right into the space FEDRA had previously occupied. And so, after this was discovered, the Fireflies were driven out just like FEDRA had been. Only much faster, and with less fight. And now Pittsburgh is nothing but anarchy. People gunned down in the streets for nothing. Rooms full of bodies, clothes and shoes. Almost looks like after images of Dachau. Bravo, Fireflies. Excellent revolution.Next up, we meet Tommy, Joel’s brother, and disenfranchised Firefly. He worked for them for years, going all the way to Colorado for them. Somewhere along the way, he lost faith in them and left their cause. He doesn’t specify exactly why, but it seems he might have lost faith in their methods. Then we come to the University. This is where we really discover how incompetent the Fireflies actually are. One of the first notes you see at University is about a guy who is angry he got yelled at for falling asleep on guard duty. Real professionals. This same note indicates that while they’re still getting some supplies, it’s not enough for what’s needed, with gasoline being particularly short. The next note comes from a recording, telling us that they’re losing more guards, with the doctor clearly concerned about how much equipment and data will be lost if they have to move. The doctor even calls the Fireflies incompetent in this note. And then we have this genius.. That’s right. Bitten by his own lab monkey. Because he just had to set it free, rather than putting it down humanely. Brilliant work sir. Brilliant. He kills himself before turning though, but not before informing us that they hadn’t accomplished anything for over five years. And even that small breakthrough was ultimately a failure. And now the entire lab is compromised, and abandoned. And then there’s a long break from Fireflies until Salt Lake. Ellie, having just gone underwater, isn’t breathing. Joel attempts to perform CPR on her when our hero Firefly shows up, and knocks Joel unconscious. Ah, violence. The first solution. Willing to forgive it, since it strongly mirrors the scene with Sarah, only the Firefly is in the soldier’s shoes this time. But still. Military was gentler. And now for the hospital. The final failure of the Fireflies. This is where so many people are convinced that Joel screws the world by preventing a vaccine. But somehow, I just don’t think so. This is one last desperate bid by the Fireflies for control. How do they intend to do this? Comprehensive bloodwork? No. Vigorous testing with laboratory animals, like, oh, maybe monkeys? No, someone let all their monkeys go. Crack open her head and hope for the best? Hell yeah! Does the fact that they’ve lost their biologist concern them? Nah, it’ll be fine! Does the fact that this is the only time they’ve seen immunity to this degree even give them pause? Pfft, crack her open! Does the fact that there has never been a successful vaccine against fungus give them pause? PASS THAT SCALPEL! No need to think this over, let’s blow our whole load on this once in a lifetime lucky strike as fast as possible. No, I’ve never heard the story about the goose who laid the golden eggs, tell it to me after I finish butchering surgery. Even if we make this vaccine, how will we deploy it? You're thinking too hard, hand me the saw! This is just bad science. Done by bad scientists. Cheered on by fools. Fools who wanted to murder Joel after he made that long trip. And for people who insist on government and democracy, it’s funny how they didn’t risk telling Ellie their “plan” and just sedated her and rushed her to the table.
Even by SOME MIRACLE they managed to make a vaccine, the world ain't gonna automatically return to what it was. It's a dog eat dog world and that is the new normal. Infected, cannibals, more psychos like David and raiders are still there and it ain't going away soon or maybe ever. On top of that, mass production and distribution of a vaccine is an absolute logistical nightmare in a post apocalyptic world- they simply don't have enough resources for that. And who's to say The Fireflies wouldn't use it to as a bargaining tool to put everyone, willing or not, under their new rule? And even given all that, they debated killing Joel after he delivered Ellie. He did the job and the payment he received was getting knocked out and being marched outside of the safe zone AT GUNPOINT WITHOUT HIS WEAPONS AND SUPPLIES! The Fireflies broke their deal and fucked Joel over. Joel had ever right to kill them and save Ellie.
So I believe what Joel did in the end was the right thing, the fireflies was an extremist group that was willing to do anything not to save the world, but to prove their point, even kill an innocent girl under a delusional precept.

The Last of Us 2 :SPOILERS:
about a certain playable character
on this blog we love and stan Ellie in her quest for vengeance.
The narrative “revenge bad” really doesn’t apply to the post-apocalyptic world, wherein we are not here for petty revenge if it means we need to eliminate a potential threat to our people.
also-also, Abby is a whole bully. The game-play of her was fair and all, to try and appeal her as a totally human character with backstory and friends, and an entire support system. But Mel was right. Abs is an asshole.
I think what came across hardest in the Abby segments, when you see where she comes from and her pre-history, is that we don’t have a character that can be fully sympathized with. The game devs really tried, I think, to make her endearing as a person and not some rando antagonist, with depth and character. To see from her perspective, of how things are. And I don’t dislike her for just killing Joel, it’s her whole entire attitude and motivation behind it, AND hauling company along and doing what it takes to reach her - HER - end goals.
Abby is fully incorporated into this WLF militia district, who kind of go out and kill the Seraphites whenever the two factions cross paths. These two are in conflict, and Abby has no qualms about torturing and killing these “of the land” people. And Abby has a higher-than-thou attitude about her purpose in life, and justification for hunting down and murdering Joel. She totally believes that her people are the good guys, and everyone else is the villain.
No, Joel was not a saint himself. But we’ll refer to the post-apocalyptic scenario, where the main focus is survival. There are scarce resources, and people become infected by fungal funtimes means you have to murder friends before they turn and pose a danger to the whole party. All while you deal with people who are struggling for the same resources, willing to kill to survive, we also have savage McGee having a damn holiday about crumbling social order. Moral jives be damned.
Joel didn’t torture and kill Abby’s papa, while she watched. His purpose in the hospital was extract Ellie, and in that moment, with time so precious, with emotions all over the place, threatened at gunpoint, and given what happened to Sarah, Joel was not prepared to be robbed of saving someones life. The experience in of itself was triggering for him, I reckon.
I’ve said it before a long while back, but I roll with Joel’s decision. Ellie’s immunity was supposed to “Save humanity”, but there wasn’t much left to save. Ellie suffers survivors guilt, and constantly falls back to “My death would’ve meant something.” But how we die isn’t nearly as important, as how we lived, and those we encountered along the way. It will always be more important to to live, than to be gone.
I have this feel that at some point while they were rekindling their relationship, between them, Joel would’ve pointed out that Ellie’s life has meant more than her hypothetical death. That her inclusion into all these peoples lives, is worth mountains more than what might’ve been,
So Abby. She crosses the countryside to enact revenge on a man, who was protecting his surrogate daughter. She held onto that hate and resentment for all this time, and was willing to maim people in order to locate where Joel was. Worst of all, she bullied her colleagues and friends to join her on this vengefest. Because Joel “destroyed humanities last hope.” The only reason Abby didn’t go on a murder/torture quest, like Ellie did, was due to the fact Joel and Tommy intercepted her on patrol and escorted her back to WLF temp base - after saving Abby from infected. They then offered to bring the group by Jackson, for supplies, and shelter.
And in response, Abby’s lot tortured and murdered Joel. Right in front of Ellie.
Then when Seraphite’s Yara and Lev help Abby, after these two factions have been fighting for years. Abby turns around and helps “these kids”.
Mel was right. Abby is an asshole. All her friends died, trying to “protect her” from this scrawny girl from the small wood town. A small neighborly community, who lost a vital and important member of their community.
What rubbed me the wrong way with Abby though, is that she comes across as the law, or justice - the one who was in the right, and that’s that. Sure, Ellie killed all her friends, but Abby was willing to do the same to Jacksonites. And has done the same to Seraphite prisoners. And Ellie was acting out in self-defense in each encounter, no debate on that. Ellie absolutely had tunnel vision for Abby, and for some reason the idea of ratting out their friend - to this scrawny girl - just didn’t feel right.
But fuck, Abby was a toxic person. She’s this military buff going out to murder lone country folk. She would’ve done to Jackson, what WLF did to the Seraphite village. All to find Joel.
It was important for Ellie to witness Abby at the end of Santa Barbra, broken and in shambles after a false lead. With no people or her own anymore, aside from Lev. No one to come rescue her, no one waiting for them. No one.
To see that Abby did lose everything, and had nothing to go back to.
True, Ellie did a lot of damage to Abby, arguably a lot more than she suffered with Joel’s death. But Ellie went through so much with Joel, saved him and nursed him back to health, and was caught by cannibals - nearly hacked to bits. All to save Joel. Ellie had so much she needed to do with Joel, so much to forgive and grow through in a healthy and meaningful way. But Abby robbed that from them.
Ellie just tearing loose, going after Abby was justified. Ellie grew with Joel as a survivor, and has a lot of suppressed trauma that was unlatched through Abby’s malice. And most important of all.
Ellie constantly told her friends, they didn’t have to come. She had to force Dina to stay behind, while she went out. That’s an important contrast between the Ellie and Abby dynamic.
Abby ridiculed and harassed people around her, on this quest for revenge. Ellie just wanted to find Abby, kill that bitch, and call it good.
That’s my vibe.
Last thing, the whole, “We let you live, and you wasted it!” Just pissed me off. Like it was some sort of honor that the mighty oxen-Ab didn’t murder them after Joel dad saved her.
Abby wanted this, and she got everything she needed from it.

The paranoid style is back, and better than ever
I know I’ve said this ad nauseam in these pages, but oh man are we in trouble as a nation. We find ourselves today in such an extremely ugly place, in the post-Obama era—an era riddled with hysteria, paranoia, division, hatred, extremism disguised as normal discourse. In fact, thanks to Fox news and the public institutions of hysteria (Rush Limbaugh, et al) much of what once might have been considered radical, violent, extreme or just plain socially unacceptable views or behavior is now normalized across the airwaves on a daily basis. It’s mainstream!
This trend has been exasperated by the anonymity and free expression (or rather “free of consequence” expression) allowed by the internet that leads us deeper off the cliff. Thus, here we are now, in the throws of the golden age of paranoia—a deeply shameful and disgusting time in America. Hallelujah!
So I figured this is the perfect time to go back and reread the original article “The Paranoid Style” by Richard Hofstadter (from Harper’s Magazine, 1964) which put into writing, clearly and thoughtfully for the thinking world to see a phenomenon that’s plagued the human race for centuries.
Hofstadter writes about popular movements in American history fed by conspiracy theories, and politicians who used those conspiracies to manipulate and stimulate voters’ passions. The anti-freemason movement of the late eighteenth century; the anti-catholic movement of the mid-nineteenth; the ani-shadow banker movement of the early 20th century; and of course, everyone’s favorite anti-communist frenzy of the McCarthy era. He ends on, what was then, the current rage in Paranoid Politics: the Barry Goldwater campaign, in which many of the pillars of modern conservative conspiracies were born and cemented.
But one thing I can’t help in reading about all these great moments in paranoid politics, is how quaint they are. How simple and relatively innocuous.
Hofstadter writes that one of the noteworthy developments to occur in the “modern” Goldwater era was the infusion of mass media to help fuel whatever strange and depraved messages were being brokered. Oh, but how gentle and dated the Goldwater days seem now, in comparison to today’s white hot mess. If Goldwater only had access to forces like Fox news and the internet, there’s no telling how far he could have gone. But he didn’t.
Rereading about the basic tenants of the paranoid mind and the exploitation thereof, it puts much clarity on what is happening to us now in this moment, and on how it is happening. The fears, the types of conspiracies, the invented enemies that politicians and media personalities use to manipulate voters, they come from well worn places in the human (or at least, the American white male) psyche. Capitalism is being undermined! Infiltrators from “outside” have worked their way to the highest levels of government. Backed by, and in cahoots with international radicals and powerful shadowy figureheads, they are plotting the destruction of the United States.
By the way, here’s an exercise for you: watch Fox news tonight and count how many times the say the word “socialist” in the course of a between-commercials segment. Also, how many times they pair the word “socialist” with “democrat” or “democrat party.” This is a way to get very drunk, very fast.
Even more disturbing and appalling then the actual practice is the skill with which the perpetrators of today’s paranoid politics inflict their craft. Whether it’s Trump, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, or some Russian troll farm, these people know what the fuck they’re doing.
Look at the Russian trolls of 2016, for instance. They knew the exact type of conspiracy theory to publish, the exact kinds of stories that would gain traction and be share (amplified) by their intended audience: Hillary Clinton’s missing emails. Proof she was corrupted by foreign governments—a corrupt insider who’s infiltrated the highest levels of US government! Classic stuff, right out of the pages of Hofstadter.
Our current president, despite his massive faults, nastiness and moral deprivations, is an extremely gifted Paranoid politician. He has taken the art to new heights. In fact, in most instances, it’s all he’s got.
His particular gift is language. He finds perfect little packets of words to neatly summarize, encapsulate and motivate the conspiratorial spirit:
“The system is rigged”
“Fake news”
“Witch hunt”
“Giant hoax”
He repeats these over, and over, and over.
Let us not forget as well, that this guy’s entré into the world of national politics was through the “birther” movement, which itself was something of a high paranoid achievement. The president (Obama) was actually born outside the United States and is therefore not legitimate. He’s a foreigner, hell-bent on destroying democracy, capitalism and the constitution! The fact that Obama was African American worked doubly well on the paranoid mind: the theory fit so perfectly into those warped pre-conceived paranoid notions that blackness is otherness, and that those with dark skin represent a threat to the natural order of America. It was a paranoid home run, giving rise to a whole new era of mind bogglingly delusional right-wing ranting.
Cutting his teeth on this vast and rich material, the current office holder of the presidency continues to use the dark sentiments of “birtherism” to his advantage. Another of his overused verbal bludgeons is to blame all negative things happening in our country on Obama. And weirdly, to justify any untoward practices he uses himself in office by claiming, mostly wrongly that “Obama did it!” There is no logic or reality to this, but to the paranoid mind, it all makes perfect sense.
Sadly, it’s this same deep paranoid fear of dark skin that gives fuel to one of the greatest national disgraces of our era: our current immigration policy and this ridiculous turmoil about “the Wall.” None of this nonsense would be possible if not for a broader fear of dark skin “infiltration” which has been building with the paranoid crowd over the last 10 years or so.
In fact, when you look at just about any of today’s most important political battles today, it seems that the obstacles to progress and sensible policy are built out of paranoid building blocks. Whether it’s immigration policies, stopping the epidemic of gun violence, curbing widespread sexual harassment, ensuring fair and equal voting practices, or just about any issue on the table, you encounter some very emotionally powerful appeals to the great, white, irrational mind.
For instance:
Immigration:
Dark skinned rapists are crossing the border, stealing our jobs!
Gun Violence:
Democrats and liberals want to take away our guns!
Institutionalized Sexual Harassment:
White men in this country are under attack. Liberals want to destroy our careers!
Voting Rights:
Black people, Mexicans and democrats are voting illegally! They’re stealing our elections!
Environmental Policy
Global warming is a Chinese hoax! Regulations are killing our jobs!
Healthcare:
They’re trying to import European-style socialism and destroy capitalism!
Religion:
Christians and christianity are under attack from atheists and democrats who want to dismantle your religious liberty.
Fair taxation:
Socialism!
The fact that these conspiratorial roadblocks have been in use for such a long time and have been set in high-repeat mode puts us in a very tricky situation.
These paranoid sentiments are no longer loony-bin, fringe and weirdo rantings. They have become a standard, acceptable form of mainstream political discourse. People are using them ad nauseam to distort and short-circuit any type of rational political debate.
The birth of a new Rational Movement in politics
Rereading Hofstadter's original article, and working through some of my thoughts have helped tremendously to give me a sense of clarity towards our current political predicament. It’s also helped to clarify some thoughts about a possible way out of this mess.
Here’s what I hope to see: some politician, or several politicians really, thought leaders, public voices, personalities, spokespeople from all walks of life and political persuasions, rising up from the current crop to begin a massive, persistent de-bunking and re-framing campaign.
They will need formidable language skills, guts, conviction, and god-like perseverance. The end goal: re-frame the debate. Shed light on the bizarre and out-of-whack nature of our current politics. Make it crystal clear what’s happening.
They cannot be the wonky, policy-minded politicians of today’s left, or the quirky, quick-witted personalities of MSNBC or late night TV. They cannot be merely smart people with good ideas. They need to convey the weight of truth and urgency in their words. They need to clarify in a concise, colloquial way. They need to lay it all on the table.
We are fighting against deep paranoid fears and the people who exploit such fear.
This is not a debate between left and right or liberalism versus conservatism. It’s a debate between sanity and insanity. Between rational thought, and bizarre ranting. It's a debate between very real ideas and irrational fear.
The Fox news crowd needs to be called out again and again, not as the “right” or the “right wing, but as the “paranoid right.” The two words can never be uncoupled.
Most importantly, politicians cannot pretend to debate against opponents who eschew this garbage. Call off the debates. Don’t yell at each other across the podium or from different boxes of the TV screen. Do not argue with insanity—it only serves to elevate it and make it seem like it’s a real, valid point-of-view.
At this point in time, I believe there is still a soft middle in the American electorate—people who have not yet been radicalized, polarized, marginalized, cannibalized or disenfranchised. People who are still open to political discourse and are still capable of making decisions based on thought and information. These are the people who need to be reached and influenced. These are the people that can save our collective hides.
Of course, a few other things need to happen. For instance, Fox news needs to be put off the air once and for all. And the internet needs to be unplugged. But those are discussions for another day.

100 Days of Trump Final Day: Marat/Sade
Welcome back to the final installment of 100 Days of Trump, where I try to explain WTF happened to the West in 100 Posts, And we are done, I am managed to write 100 articles without losing interest or focus, I fulfilled my promise which...honestly makes me more productive than the actual fucking president. So I”ve talked extensively about the psychology and makeup of the right as an entity, how it is based not on a real ideology such much as a collection of emotional grudges and bitterness, and I”ve talked about the problems created by centrism which makes the right’s rise to power possible, now lets talk about the left, and how better to do that than the French Revolution. But first, a brief history lesson so you can understand how fucking awesome this movie is.
Jean Paul Marat was a radical journalist in the revolution, one of the extremists who called for the mass killing of the upper classes long before it was cool, and likely today would be described as some sort of extreme socialist who wants mass redistribution of resources to the people. He was assassinated by Charlote Corday, a young Geondian (a slightly more moderate faction) and his death served as as the impetus for the next stage of the Reign of Terror. Beloved by the people, busts of Marat’s head were often put in the place of saints heads or crucifixes in the years to come.
The Marque de Sade was in addition to being the man who brought us the term sadism, we effectively pseudo Nietzsche but more of a nihilist, who denied the very notion of morality at all. He was really into violating sexual norms and a lot of his writings are all about really horrible sexual violence. He was one of those people who was all about being awful openly rather than trying to justify it. For his writings, he often was jailed, and under Napoleon he was put into an insane asylum not because he was insane but because he was politically subversive. He also might have been a serial rapist, he certainly liked to act like that. He was personal friends with Jean Paul Marat. While in the asylum, he put on plays with the inmates, and at one point he put on a play which was a dramatization of Marat’s assassination, with himself debating political philosophy with Marat. The play evidently ended in a riot and the play hasn’t survived.
So the movie is a dramatization of that play, where the Real de Sade having written a play where he debates political philosophy with an actor playing Marat. However hte actor is schizophrenic and comes to actually believe he is Marat, and starts to go off script to argue with de Sade. To complicate matters further, the Napoleonic censor is sitting in the room trying to keep the play from being anything other than a glorification of Napeolon’s regime (Napeolon’s view was that his rule was suppose to correct the excesses of the Reign of Terror. So both de Sade and fake Marat need to get their politically subversive debate past him and too the audience without causing a stir. Oh and its a musical. What more can you want.
youtube
So why do I end with this work? Because in the face of the type of evil we are seeing with the Far Right and the uselessness of the centrism, we on the left need to understand the dangers of too much militarism in response. In many way this play is a really good primer on what not to do in response to the right, and that opposing evil does not mean one should embrace evil in response. For example, I think almost every single one of my followers would look at this clip and go “hell yeah, preach it brother”
youtube
And he is right, that is the type of attitudes used to justify inequality, to support plutocracy, to normalize poverty and suffering. But here is the thing, just because he is right...doesn’t mean he is correct? What do I mean? Because his solution to the problem is more...along these lines
youtube
And of course, that is where left wing rebels go from the noble protectors of the people and instead become the same tyrants they replace, why the left is so prone to auto cannibalism, self destructive paranoia, because when you are righteous, it is extremely easy to justify pretty much any crime.
But then of course, de Sade is trying to argue a form of selfish nihilism, which suddenly makes Marat’s absolutism even more sympathetic. Many leftists believe that they are trapped between three forces, nihilism, conservatism, and hypocritical centrism, which means any method becomes justified in response.
But...no....not that isn’t how it has to be. And of course, once the left starts to retreat within to its, it losses touch with what people actually want or believes
And this extremism allows the right to grow strong and seize power once again, and suddenly you find yourself under the rule of Napoleon in an insane asylum talking about the cyclical nature of revolution.
youtube
Revolution is after all, a cycle by nature, and those who don’t know how to understand their politics in a larger context will find themselves trapped in the same pattern forever.
Let us end this in a warning, that the left must not embrace the paranoia and extremism of the ring even if they have a legitimate leg to stand on. But also, see what happens when you bring nationalism into politics, because you get the type of contradictory leaps of logic that Trump supporters often operate on like in this song (Skip to 2:48 if you want to see the musical history of France as sung by people trying to justify a dictator).
youtube
That was 100 days of Trump ladies and gentlemen, I hope it helped you understand the madness. The fun isn’t quite over though, stay tuned
