Seeing how ellie as a 14-15 year old was portrayed in the TLOU show lowkey healed something inside me tbh. That’s a character written by someone who perfectly understands exactly how a kid that age (especially one in traumatic circumstances) acts and feels. You know how much popular media sort of ingrained a feeling in me of having been a freak and an outlier for what I remember of being 14? You know how well TLOU portrayed being a kid well into puberty and almost a young adult who has been exposed to oppression and substances and death but is also just discovering the Real World and is still awkward in their own identity? Someone who is just discovering their queerness, who is able to passionately articulate ideological and emotional stances deeply and intelligently albeit without always having the ability to put them in a broader context? The refusal to infantilize Ellie was so real and so important. Bella Ramsey did an incredible job enhancing Ellie from the game in that way but the script also carries a lot of the credit.
