Marlei is 26 years old, disabled, and has been left homeless with her 3 children after a typhoon in the Philippines in July.

She has just recently been hospitalized, and is unsure of what will happen to her and her family now.

I have been helping her afford food and shelter over the past 2 weeks, but she needs almost 21,000 pesos (1,055 USD) to pay for her hospital bills. My favorite underrated Battle Shonen series is about an orphan boy who dreams of being the wizard King. However, there is a slight problem since he was born without the ability to use magic. This is for you if you like the classic battle Shonen. It takes that classic formula and executes it to perfection. Plus, the show has some of the best-written supporting cast and female characters in Shonen.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

It's a beautiful story and one of the best shows I've ever watched. However, it is not for everyone. Some people cannot handle the slow pacing because sometimes it is just as much of a slice of Life as it is an action-adventure story.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword

A kid without magic wants to be a great magician, but to gain that title, he picks up a sword to prove you don't need magic to become the greatest. Unfortunately, he still has to go to magic school. Black Clover mixed with Mashle is just as good as both.

Black Butler

4 seasons, a two-part special, and a Canon movie ongoing.

A young boy and his demon butler solve mysteries in Victorian England. I recommend researching what Canon and non-canon or OVA are before you start. Otherwise, you will be confused.

Based on the Japanese game, Netflix did a fantastic job adapting it. I never played the games and I loved it. I rewatched it with someone who played the games, and they loved all the Easter eggs

The sequel Castlevania Nocturne is not as good as the original. Hopefully, they fix that with the second season. The trailer did look amazing

The Legend of Vox Machina

You like classic high fantasy. This is for you. It's based on the D&D live stream show Critical Role. A friend of mine jokingly calls it Middle Earth. If they were allowed to say fuck it's very adult and very gory. However, it is amazing and one of my favorite animated shows.

Blood of Zeus

If you like Greek mythology, this one's for you. The story of one of Zeus's bastards and the consequences of Hera finding out about them. It's a story that feels like it could be straight out of Greek mythology and they do a fantastic job

Maya and The Three

One season it's a Netflix exclusive

Think of it as a love story of Mesoamerican culture in animated form. It's probably the most out of my recommendations because it is 3D animation. But God I love this show. It's about an Aztec princess who has to fight the gods in order to save her Kingdom along with her companions, who are members of the Inca, the Maya, and the indigenous Caribbean culture. Again, it's a love story of the indigenous cultures of Mesoamerica made by actual Latinos. I love this show so much, and it is underrated.

EMERGENCY COMMISSIONS ‼️‼️ I don't wanna keep doing this constantly, and while I do get commissions like 2-4 times a month at least, I really do need like a lot of money right now, like around $500 to pay off my tuition + rent and necessities on my college dorm.

I don't want to get into too much details, but my parents are like 4 months late into paying off my previous balance in tuition, so I had to take a LOA this term of three months. We still haven't paid it and the enrollment is nearing (next month). I've been using the recent commission money I get to pay my rent and my necessities so barely anything is left after. The Siyokoy [Filipino mythology]!

Aquatic humanoid creatures, usually with claws, scales and webbed appendages, live in lakes or rivers and drag unfortunate travelers under the water to drown them. To say that this story is a popular trope in folktales throughout the world would be about as big an understatement as saying that American chocolate chip cookies are popular in my apartment.

Almost every civilization has its own variety of aquatic humanoid monster, and that makes sense for two reasons: first, humans tend to drown when submerged for extended periods of time. A lot of people have drowned throughout human history, so it makes sense that many different myths arose about monsters who tried to drag their victims under the water. Second, these stories are often a variation of the classic ‘bogeyman’ tale: parents tell their children about a scary monster that would eat them (or bestow some other, presumably unpleasant fate upon them) to scare them away from bad behaviour.

A very common bogeyman tale is ‘if you venture too close to the river, a monster will come out and grab you’. This way, the child is dissuaded from playing near deep wells or rivers where it might fall in and drown (see reason 1 for more details on why this can happen).

In the Philippines, people believed in the Siyokoy (pronounced ‘Sho-koy’). These malicious monsters are dangerous creatures that lurk underwater. They are vaguely human-like in shape, but their head resembles that of a fish and their feet have webbed toes for swimming. The body of a Siyokoy is covered in fishy scales that are either green or brown, and they breathe through gills.

The Siyokoy eat human flesh, so they often hunt for fishermen. When a Siyokoy spots suitable prey, they grab their victim and drag them downward until they drown, before devouring them like I devour the aforementioned chocolate chip cookies.

Interestingly, there is some variety in the physical descriptions of these monsters. In some tales, they resemble classical mermaids (though male) with a fish-like lower body attached to the torso of a human. They are often said to have long tentacles to grab their victims. There are only male Siyokoy, because the monster is a counterpart of sorts to the Sirena, which are always female. Sirena are usually portrayed as human girls with a mermaid tail.

AN ACT

To provide for the regulation of interstate and foreign communication by wire or radio, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in the Congress assembled,

Title I -- General Provisions

PURPOSES OF ACT; CREATION OF FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION

SECTION 1. For the purpose of regulating interstate and foreign commerce in communication by wire and radio so as to make available, so far as possible, to all people of the United States a rapid, efficient, Nation-wide, and world-wide wire and radio communication service with adequate facilities at reasonable charges, for the purpose of the national defense, and for the purpose of securing a more effective execution of this policy by centralizing authority heretofore granted by law to several agencies and by granting additional authority with respect to interstate and foreign commerce in wire and radio communication, there is hereby created a commission to be known as the "Federal Communications Commission", which shall be constituted as hereinafter provided, and which shall execute and enforce the previsions of this Act.

APPLICATIONS OF ACT

SEC.2. (a) The provisions of this Act shall apply to all interstate and foreign communication by wire or radio and all interstate and foreign transmission of energy by radio, which originates and/or is received within the United States, and to all persons engaged within the United States in such communication or transmission of energy by radio, and to the licensing and regulating of all radio stations as hereinafter provided; but it shall not apply to persons engaged in wire or radio communication or transmission in the Philippine Islands or Canal Zone, or to wire or radio communication or transmission wholly within the Philippine Islands or Canal Zone.

(b) Subject to the provisions of section 301, nothing in this Act shall be construed to apply or to give the Commission jurisdiction with respect to (1) charges, classifications, practices, services, facili-S.3285--55

by the Commission, and may cause the closing of any station for radio communication and removal therefrom of its apparatus and equipment, or he may authorize the use or control of any such station and/or its apparatus and equipment by any department of the Government under such regulations as he may prescribe, upon just compensation to the owners.

(d) The President shall ascertain the just compensation for such use or control and certify the amount ascertained to Congress for appropriation and payment to the person entitled thereto. If the amount so certified is unsatisfactory to the person entitled thereto, such person shall be paid only 75 per centum of the amount and shall be entitled to sue the United States to recover such further sum as added to such payment of 75 per centum will make such amount as will be just compensation for the use and control. Such suit shall be brought in the manner provided by paragraph 20 of section 24, or by section 145, of the Judicial Code, as amended.

EFFECTIVE DATE OF ACT

SEC. 607. This Act shall take effect upon the organization of the Commission, except that this section and sections 1 and 4 shall take effect July 1, 1934. The Commission shall be deemed to be organized upon such date as four members of the Commission have taken office.

SEPARABILITY CLAUSE

SEC. 607. If any provision of this Act or application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder of the Act and the application of such provision to other persons or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

The Second Blade: Diplata - Extinct Bolo

Continuing the countdown to the launch of the Gubat Banwa Kickstarter coming up on the 10th of October- 6 days to go! Gubat Banwa is a tactical war-drama TTRPG set in the Sword Isles, a fantasy setting inspired by Southeast Asian cultures and folklore.

To promote its launch, I'll be posting some of the weapons I've been drawing for the game every day until the campaign kicks off in earnest. These were meant to be Swordtember entries, pardon the lateness I suppose. 2/7 blades so far, let me introduce you to the DIPLATA.

The diplata is a short-to-mid-length blade with a distinct handle, with most specimens sporting a horn-like protrusion facing the same side as the edge.

The blade shape itself I feel is something common across most toolblades in the Philippines, not much longer than one's forearm with a more-or-less rounded out tip- though the diplata seems a bit wider than most. I would say the most unique features definitely lie in the shape of the hilt, and the circular guard. Most Philippine blades don't have anything in the form of hand protection, so a wide guard like this stands out.

This one was a little difficult to find photo references for, as apparently they're quite rare. Some blade scholars call it an "extinct" blade, meaning those who traditionally forge authentic ones supposedly aren't around anymore.

To illustrate in the simplest terms, a katana made by a traditional Japanese swordsmith would count as a traditional blade. A messer made by a traditional German blacksmith would count as a traditional blade. I'm sure there's more internal nuance there, but that's the quickest reference point I could come up with. Take note however that the Philippines is composed of many, many different cultures who all happen to exist in the same archipelago with varying levels of overlap- there is no singular, unifying blade culture, so categorizations like "Traditional" and "Modern" (often referring to modern reproductions) aren't always as exact as convenience may demand. In particular, material exchange between cultures makes a mess of this categorization, not just because the blades themselves could get traded (or stolen or lost) and physically make their way to other places beyond the imaginary borders of their "homelands", but because the smiths themselves (or their knowledge and techniques) may travel around. Smiths in different places may also see blades from different cultures that they might feel like imitating or emulating in some way- that's how certain Philippine blades obtained D-guards- but that's a story for another time. The diplata is oft-attributed to the Aeta peoples, specifically those who come from Mt. Pinatubo in Zambales. Not much confusion as to whose culture these blades belong.

It is a little disheartening that most of the refs I could find were photos from foreign museums and loose images in books and blade forums. I will not speculate here as to how these blades ended up in these places, but it isn't hard to guess.

I'm forever thankful to the random communities of blade enthusiasts who dedicate a not-insignificant portion of their time (and wallets) to supporting local artisan blacksmiths to grow their collections, and keeping track and tracing which blades came from which places and peoples. Our blade cultures are alive and still developing, but they could still use a little help sometimes, just so we don't lose them.

But when his own heart was stolen and crushed on his twenty-fifth birthday, he was exiled to that very place, forced to see for himself.

He had thought he was prepared, but the expectations were so horribly different from the reality. Conspiracies were afoot, and the more he stayed in Outer District, the more he realized he had been lied to his entire life. 

The monsters he was taught to fear might be Angel City's only hope against threats lurking beyond its borders. In a twist of fate, they might also be Rainier's only hope against his own inner demons.

Her partner (who she tried to convince me was estranged from her btw, despite the very obvious evidence to the contrary?) has his cockfighting business. 1. What song are you fixated on at the moment? What lyric or verse, and why?

- Just the entirety of ‘A letter to my 13 yr old self’ by laufey but instead it’s dedicated to my friends

The things you thought you’d never do”

- Every time I listen to this, I always think of them and what they’ve confided in me with, I grieve with them and just wish I could have been there to shield them from it :3

2. Do you love gargantuan Youtube video essays, and if so, which is your favorite and why?

- When it comes to longggg video essays , I usually lean towards topics that I’m already fond/familiar of so that i remain interested and focused (current interests like the mandela catalogue :D or political affairs going on in the world, or true crime)

- Dunno if it counts for a video essay but i once finished watching a 4 hour senate hearing….in one sitting

3. What is your go-to way to fall asleep?

- I often do have to take melatonin cuz sometimes there’s too much happening up there—>🧠 and i struggle to fall asleep

- asmr videos (i like the ones made by small creators cuz the rest are too predictable)

- or i have a playlist for sleeping and i usually put that on very low volume on a speaker

- I also can’t sleep without hugging something but it CANT be a person, has to be…..a pillow…or a stuffed animal

4. What is your favorite of Redacted’s audios, and why?

- i only listen to the ‘don’t hang up’ halloween audio like maybe 12 times a day? For the past 4 months or so :P

- I absolutely love the trope and i loveee the way that it was executed.

- I love the cadence of his voice in that audio, and something about his demeanour is soooooo🤗🤗the gravely voice and the dark laugh is to die for (he reminds me of David a tiny tiny bit)

-something about how protective these men are and how authoritative they can get (to a certain extent) just do it for me i dunno :3

5. What Redacted boy holds no appeal to you, and why? Like, not the one you hate but the one who you don’t get the hype for. (I won’t judge, I promise.)

- blake? Kody?

- Blake i find has very realistic ‘yandere’ qualities and that makes him more creepy for me

- Kody is very self-explanatory

6. Which Redacted boy are you platonically attracted to? Like- forget dating, which dude do you want to be your best friend?

- GUUUUUYYYYYYYY or asher >_<

- These are men that I am so confident I would never catch feelings for cuz we’re very similar in a way

- I don’t tend to gravitate towards people that I share similarities with? I’m more interested in people that are the opposite (so i feel like in terms of romantic attachments, I get along with those types of people really well)

7. Do you have a go-to thing you ramble about when you’re tired, and if so, what is it? (For example, my boyfriend knows I’m ready to sleep when I start talking about space.)

- i feel like im not answering the question properly but when i ramble (which I do a lot) i sort of don’t stick to one topic

- I don’t know anything about anything so I usually ramble about one thing and then move on with another topic

- (halfway thru typing i just realized what this is actually asking) but when im tired that’s when I actually stop talking for once :D

8. Tell me about your favorite playlist at the moment. 

- i have a playlist full of filipino songs because I currently live in Canada and i am soooo homesick, also doesn’t help that I haven’t really met any other filipinos (outside of immediate family members) :(

- there’s also another which is just full of songs released in the 1900’s, not only do i enjoy listening to old-school songs, i was also raised by old people so these type of songs basically defined my childhood.

9. What’s your guilty pleasure media, and why?

- Boyfriend asmr >_<

- Maybe fanfics of fictional characters???

- I’m especially partial to yandere stuff…cuz…idk i wish i knew

- Also cupcakke (i’ve put her on shuffle and managed to complete a big assignment in one sitting so thats my queen)

10. Tell me about that one book/movie/tv show you know all the words to.

- it would be the Haunting of Bly Manor (horror, suspense, romance, drama?)

- GAY PPL CAN NEVER BE HAPPY RAGHHH

- Definitely my favorite ‘horror’ series

- It’s special to me because I find a lot of horror media to be…just very hard to enjoy since gore and jumpscares don’t really do it for me

- Haunting of Bly Manor stands out from the rest of horror movies/series because the storytelling is immaculate, characters are complex (and you actually feel the loss when they get killed off unlike others), and the pacing is perfect

- It reads like a fairytale and a bedtime story, and given the plot, it might as well be a love story too

- There’s so many figurative/metaphorical occurrences that i can break down and unpack and thats why I find it enjoyable: its thought-provoking and just the right amount of scary

- It also has that ‘gothic’ aura to it that i ABSOLUTELY LOVE

11. Tell me your go-to gas station and drink combo.

- idk about gas station but i like chocolate milk more than anything else

12. As for the enneasgram (i cant spell) test thingy….i can’t do it cuz it’s making me pay…BUT! I do know my MBTI personality thing is..INFP…or ISTJ…idk it kinda changes everytime i do it

I hope this is enough info (i also hope it’s not too much :D) and im not even sure im answering them right 😖 but regardless I enjoyed myself. You’re so awesome for doing stuff like this i cant wait im gnawing at my enclosures rn.

This was a hard one to consider- I wanted to take into account your attraction to people who contrast you while also finding someone similar enough that I feel they’d be compatible. In my heart, in my gut, this left Sam.

In a few ways, you have significant things in common. You’re both introverts. You’d like the same music, given Sam’s age, and you’d have the same taste in horror (which is very important if you ask my boyfriend and I. Crucial, even.). Yet, in fun and cute ways, you differ. Sam’s a dog person. Sam doesn’t get your love of yanderes, cars, or true crime. (So he says. He’s the type of DILF where he walks in on you watching a true crime documentary and just stands there, refusing to sit down.)

Just as he deserves, your life together with Sam would be so peaceful; he’s a peace and quiet kind of guy, you know? I’m imagining a cabin in the woods, a cat and a dog because y’all would make them get along, long drives in his ancient truck that amazingly still runs only because he fixes it by hand. I’m thinking of movie nights where Sam mother-hens you and rations the sugary, junk food snacks y’all get for it because he has to take care of his human and make sure you get a balanced diet.

It’s not a creative take, but I think Sam loves country music; I think he’s a man of taste! It reminds me, and therefore him, of all the fun, nostalgic parts of home! Does he love this particular country song? I’m not sure, but one, it makes me think of Sam carrying you and your love with him wherever and whenever he goes in his immortal life. Two, it literally uses the term “darlin’” in it, okay, that’s a sign. That’s a done deal.

Runner-ups:

Damien is a runner-up because you see a lot of yourself in Lasko and you like people that contrast you. This is actually derivative of a ship I like quite a lot; I thought Damien/Lasko had this wonderful two sides of the same coin dynamic before HuxDami became canon. Vincent is your other runner-up because his extroverted nature is so fun opposite your introversion, but you’d still bond a lot over a mutual love of cars.

note: if you love horror movies without jumpscares or gore, I cannot recommend “They Look Like People” enough. It’s quite literally my favorite.

Tambanokano [Philippine mythology; Mindanao/Mandaya myths]

In the native religion of Mindanao and Mandaya (in the Philippines), the moon and the sun are somewhat important characters (or, rather, personifications of the moon and the sun). The moon was married to the sun, but her husband was angry and prone to outbursts of rage. One day, for reasons that are unknown to me, the sun became particularly mad at the moon. The moon ran away with all her might, but the sun gave chase and pursued her relentlessly. At times, the moon grew tired and slowed down, nearly allowing her pursuer to catch up with her. But he never reached her, because every time he comes close to catching his wife, the moon starts running again. And the two of them are still running, sometimes coming close to one another but never touching. And that is why the sun and the moon move across the sky.

In better times, though, the moon and the sun had children together. Among them was a magical creature, shaped like a man but glowing like a star. But the sun got angry and murdered his own son before horribly cutting the corpse up in hundreds of little bits. He then spread the tiny little bits across the night sky, where they are still glowing, just as the son did when he was whole. And that is why you can see stars at night.

Not all offspring of the sun and the moon were slain, however. One of them is named Tambanokano, and to this day he still resides in the depths of the ocean. Tambanokano is a humongous crab with power over lightning: every time the creature opens and closes his eyes, a bolt of lightning flashes in the sky. Tambanokano unfortunately inherited his father’s temper and he, too, is often angry at the poor moon. It happened several times that he becomes enraged at his mother and rises up, trying to devour the moon alive. But the people saw this and left their homes, beating gongs and shouting at the crab until the creature becomes scared of the noise and retreats to his oceanic home. And that is why the moon still exists. (Note: it is believed that this story refers to a lunar eclipse!)

Tambanokano’s dwelling is a huge hole somewhere in the ocean floor. When he is there, the ocean stands high. But sometimes he leaves his dwelling, and the water rushes into the cave, after which it becomes low tide. The movement this titanic creature makes as it wanders about the ocean floor causes waves to appear on the surface of the sea. When the crab re-enters his home, he pushes the water up again. And that is why the ocean has high and low tides.
