Authorities in India are evacuating nearly 1.5 million people from the path of an approaching cyclone in the eastern states of Odisha (formerly Orissa) and West Bengal.
Thousands of relief workers have been deployed to minimise damage from Cyclone Dana, which is expected to make landfall in the next 24 hours.
Transportation services have already been affected, with scores of trains and flights cancelled.
India's weather department has said a depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to turn into a severe cyclonic storm by Thursday evening.
The storm is expected to hit the coastal areas with wind speeds of 100-120 km/h (62-74 mph).
On Wednesday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said arrangements were in place to ensure the safety of residents in districts along the cyclone’s path.
State officials said they had prepared temporary relief camps with food, water and health facilities.
"We are fully prepared to deal with the storm. Don't panic, be safe and be careful," Majhi told the media.
Odisha is evacuating more than a million people from 14 districts, while West Bengal is evacuating over 300,000 people from coastal areas.
Officials from the two states and rescue teams are on alert. Schools in the coastal regions have been shut.
Flight operations from Bhubaneswar and Kolkata city airports have been suspended from Thursday evening to Friday morning and more than 200 trains have been cancelled as authorities brace for the storm.
Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea and contingency plans have been made for Paradip port in Odisha to ensure safety of the staff and people living nearby.
The weather department has said “heavy to very heavy” rainfall is expected along the coast for the next 24 hours.
Odisha and West Bengal experience severe storms and cyclones every year.
In 1999, more than 10,000 people were killed in a cyclone in Odisha.
Last year, at least 16 people lost their lives when a cyclone lashed India and Bangladesh.

N Chandrababu Naidu's Effective Response to the Hudhud Cyclone: A Beacon of Disaster Management
The Hudhud Cyclone, a devastating natural disaster that struck Visakhapatnam (Vizag) in Andhra Pradesh, India, in October 2014, left a trail of destruction and human suffering in its wake. However, amidst these challenging circumstances, the governance of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by then-Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, emerged as a pivotal force in orchestrating a highly effective response to manage the crisis and facilitate the city's recovery. One of the initial actions taken by the TDP government in response to the calamity was to ensure the efficient execution of relief and rescue operations. The Former Chief Minister himself visited the affected regions, meticulously assessing the situation, and issuing directives to the administration to provide immediate assistance to those in need. The state government promptly declared a high alert, marshaled its resources, and dispatched National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and other dedicated rescue personnel to bolster the relief and rescue endeavors.
Tumblr media
Beyond immediate relief efforts, the TDP government was committed to restoring vital power and communication infrastructure. Recognizing the severe disruption in the city's transportation network, TDP MLAs, under the guidance of Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, orchestrated alternative transportation methods to ensure the uninterrupted flow of essential supplies to the affected areas. Additionally, the government, with the support of TDP Party Leaders, coordinated efforts to provide food and shelter to those displaced by the disaster. Under the governance of N Chandrababu Naidu, the TDP government also demonstrated an acute awareness of the necessity for long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction initiatives. To oversee the rebuilding process of the affected regions, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) was established. This entity was entrusted with the formidable task of managing the restoration of damaged infrastructure, encompassing roads, bridges, and public utilities. Furthermore, the government initiated a comprehensive housing program aimed at providing homes to those who had tragically lost theirs to the cyclone's fury. For comprehensive information on these efforts, TDP Flash News served as a reliable source.
A paramount achievement of the TDP government in Vizag's recovery post the Hudhud Cyclone was the establishment of a 'Disaster Management Authority.' This authority was vested with the responsibility of crafting and executing disaster management plans while also focusing on public education and training in disaster preparedness. Additionally, the government established a 'Disaster Response Fund' to furnish financial aid to those affected by potential future disasters. In tandem with these endeavors, the government introduced several programs geared toward reviving the economic landscape of the stricken areas. The 'Cyclone Recovery Fund,' designed to extend financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises, played a crucial role in reigniting their operations and livelihoods. The government's support program for fishermen, who bore a heavy brunt of the disaster's impact, was yet another testament to their dedication to the region's recovery.
The TDP government, under the leadership of N. Chandrababu Naidu, showcased an unwavering commitment to the well-being of Vizag's residents in the aftermath of the Hudhud Cyclone. The government's multifaceted approach, encompassing relief and rehabilitation, infrastructure restoration, economic recovery support, and proactive disaster management measures, served as a lifeline for the city's resurgence. These initiatives, including establishing the Disaster Management Authority and the Disaster Response Fund, stand as enduring legacies that will continue to benefit the people of Vizag for years to come. Indeed, the TDP's exemplary response to the Hudhud Cyclone serves as a compelling model for other cities grappling with similar challenges.

Biporjoy cyclone in Karachi
Tumblr media
Biporjoy is a word for calamity and disaster in Bengali. The name of this cyclone came from Bangladesh after the orders from the World Metrological Organization also known as WMO to guarantee quick warning messages for the citizens.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA);  Tropical Cyclone "BIPARJOY" has weakened into a "Very Severe Cyclonic Storm" (VSCS) - Category 3, with sustained wind speeds of approximately 140-150 km/h and gusts up to 170 km/h. Its current location is near Latitude 20.7° N and Longitude 67.1° E, roughly 460 km south of Karachi and 450 km south of Thatta & 565km south-east of Ormara.
The areas that are most likely to be affected are Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Tharparkar, Karachi and many more.
The formation of the biporjoy cyclone occurred, due to the disturbing weather conditions because of which, low-pressure areas were created that became a base for the cyclone. Along with this, the warm temperatures on the surface of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal resulted in vigorous oceanic circulations through which the energy and heat kept generating and became fuel for the cyclone.
Apart from these meteorological factors, scientists confirm that global warming has also played a vital role in the rising of sea levels, increment of the heat contents in the ocean, and sudden climatic changes which led to the formation of the biporjoy cyclone.
The potential impacts of the cyclone will most likely be heavy rains, urban flooding, and rough sea levels which will prevent the fishermen from working. Also, we are most likely to lose all the vulnerable structures due to heavy winds.
According to a news report, NDMA has requested people to stay away from ports and shorelines. Moreover, the authorities have transferred people from Kati Bandar to a distance of 10 km from the coastal areas to prevent loss of lives. Their residence has been set in government institutions and schools which are most likely unaffected by heavy storms.
Along with this, other emergency departments have ensured 24-hour availability for the time being. The government has also sent notices to the buildings which are most likely to get destroyed during heavy winds, to get vacant asap for the safety of the citizens.
In the previous years of natural disasters in Pakistan, international people were staying hand in hand to help the fellows in crisis. Also in the last cyclonic disaster, the weather departments did not alert before the disaster which led to many deaths. But this year the alerts as well as the precautionary measures are taken beforehand which we all hope will lead us to less damage than expected.
Biporjoy cyclone is one of the destructive powers of nature but with all the hopes and prayers towards Allah almighty, we hope that we don't lose any more precious lives in this calamity.

That night, huntsmen and fishermen return from the north, reporting sightings of Earth Giants for the first time since the Mist descended. We better be on the alert.
(Elsa has woken the spirits)

A tremendous gale-force wind is felt briefly, which stops abruptly. Strange voices are heard in the forest! We better go investigate! Has the Wind spirit returned?
A group of Arendellians, our enemies, have entered the forest! How did they pass through the mist?! One is a living, talking, indestructible snowman (who is quite a good actor too); the tall girl with blonde hair says she’s the queen of the Arendellians. She can make ice! (and I’ve never seen a dress like hers that is so revealing in the back...)
Suddenly, the fire spirit appears for the first time in 34 years and sets everything on fire. Run!! The Queen fights back in a furious battle of ice and fire! She subdues and makes friends with the fire spirit! Wth?
Omg. That scarf. THAT SCARF!
What is it doing with the Princess? That's Iduna's scarf, the last descendant of one of our oldest families! Could...could she still be alive?! We thought she perished that day but we never found her body! Iduna became Queen of Arendelle?! Are you joking?
Noooooo...They also said their parents’ ship sank 6 years ago. This revelation is too much, too heavy! Oh wait, the spirits have confirmed that Queen Elsa and Princess Anna are indeed related to us Northuldra. Time to sing our folk song...
nananaheyanna...
We’ve brought them to the village now, including Lieutenant Mattias for the first time. Everybody is relaxed and talking to the new arrivals. The children are playing with Olaf, the snowman. Ryder is talking to Kristoff and bringing him somewhere with his reindeer, Sven. Honeymaren is talking to the Queen by the fire.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Oh no!! What is that Earth giant doing here! Hide, everyone! Make no sound!
OK, he left...thankfully. Wait. Where’s the Queen? Where’s the Princess? They just left, like that? With the snowman?

OKAY, yesterday was the WEIRDEST day ever. Was it all a dream? The Arendellians have vanished...were they even here???
Right...Let’s just...get back to our lives and watch out for the spirits. That water spirit has yet to appear, we better watch out for it. Right, everyone try and act normal, ladeedum, let’s just herd reindeer and do our daily business and forget about everything that happened. Free the forest? Nah...it’s been 34 years, 5 months and 22 days...don’t think it’s gonna happen...ladeedum
The rest of the day passes as per normal.
D-Day
“Wake uuuuuuuupppppp!!!!”
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
What is happening!!!!!!!!!!! That’s the Princess’ voice! She’s back? Where’s the queen? There are 3 giants in the forest chasing after Princess Anna!!! What on earth is the Princess doing, she looks like she’s gone crazy! Who in their right mind purposely irritates the Giants! She’s gonna get crushed!
Oh. She’s made it to the dam. She’s talking to Mattias and his soldiers now. They all have their swords drawn. What is this? Mutiny? A coup?
The Princess has gone mad!! She’s screaming at the giants and they’ve started attacking her! Oh wait! She’s actually getting them to destroy the dam! The dam is breaking, it’s breaking!
WHOOSH! A mighty roar resounds as the lake of water created by the dam breaks through and rushes down the fjord. There is a brilliant flash of light in the sky! Just like the one that flashed when the mist descended. Then, a calm settles on the forest. One that we’ve not felt for 34 years, 5 months and 23 days.
Geez. What was all that about?
A few minutes/hours later...(Depending on your headcanon lol)
The mist! The Mist!!! The MIST is disappearing!!! Look at the sky!! The reindeers are doing a cyclone! I’ve never seen them so happy before! 34 years, 5 months and 23 days are finally over!
Epilogue:
WTF is the Queen wearing now??? She’s the long lost FIFTH SPIRIT!!!
The Queen has explained everything and apologised for the creation of the dam and the murder of our previous chief by the previous King. She has been to Ahtohallan! So it’s not a legend after all! Also, she has decided to stay with us. She has anointed the Princess as the new Queen of Arendelle.
I just wanted to try some creative writing, it's not my strength. This piece is supposed to be humorous. Feel free to critique/comment and add to it.
