because i'm on a stardew valley roll again
i feel like having a co-op farm would sound ridiculous to levi. how does running a fake farm on a video game sound like a good way to spend time together? but then he ends up getting super into it, developing his own system to maximize the crops you grow or the items you harvest, and while you're in town talking with the npc's or screwing around in the mines, levi is diligently on the farm maintaining it to peak perfection, and before you know it, running a farm on this laid back pixellated game is one of his favorite ways of spending some quality time with you

Your influence in this world doesn't need to be all-encompassing and World Changing. It can be small ripples. It can be gentle and easily missed.
Let yourself do small things. So often, people have this idea that to do "good things," it must be a grand gesture that changes every little thing. Honestly, that can be so intimidating and scary. We weren't meant to carry the world by ourselves. We each contribute, often in small ways, often in ways that aren't seen by everybody. But the people you affect might just take that kindness you gave them and let it light them home. Let yourself be that in whatever way you want. You don't need to carry the world alone.

question for the customer support email reps out there:
when a customer replies to something just to say “thank you” and that’s it, is that annoying? personally I find it mildly annoying because it re-opens the case I had already closed, but I’m curious what other people think

i think you shld just stick to incorrect quotes
I guess thank you for your honesty 🤡? May I ask what specifically made you realize this or if it was an accumulation of takes you didn't like?
Or if you think I make too much not-textpost/not-incorrect-quotes stuff, and I should just stick to that because you like that stuff?

Interaction Satisfaction Winners!
Congratulations to our winners this week: @hanavesinauttija with Unified Resistence, @hypexion with Skemfar's Scorn, and @izzet-always-r-versus-u with Mistfire Trickery!
~
Unified Resilience
Well, you caught me, I had to check if that was an existing ability or not. First off, the first line is good. Three mana for the effect seems right (heroic intervention is an outlier IMO), but it still wants a bit more of a kick, and you have that here. Indestructible turns it into a more expensive heroic, but then the trample is really what puts it into overdrive. Playing this in response to a removal spell on attacks seems like it would feel incredible. It also feels like it feeds into what this type of deck wants to be doing. If you’re playing a bunch of different creature types in a green deck, they’re probably all going to be pretty big, so you really want some trample to push through. I appreciate the non-human clause to prevent it from counting changelings, and while that matches with the Ikoria non-human mutate text, it does feel like a strange exclusion otherwise. Are humans not allowed to form coalitions? Or maybe that’s the point. A specifically non-human deck might be what you were going for. Regardless, this is a solid piece of interaction as a slightly worse but sometimes better heroic intervention, which I think is exactly what we need.

Skemfar's Scorn
This is just the type of card I wanted to see this contest. Two color sorcery speed removal is a big ask in commander, but the payoff here seems great. Golgari elves is a very popular archetype, but it’s support is just limited enough to feel like it still needs some help, and this card would do it. The idea of a build-your-own casualties of war is great, and the scalability of it means you can fire it off when you need it, which means it isn’t just a more restrictive version. Tapping elves both plays into and against elf decks, since they often tap for mana, so this means they can’t tap for mana to escalate and tap to escalate itself, but it also means elf decks might be prepared to tap elves anyway. And let's not ignore the simplicity of the base mode. It’s interaction in its purest form: destroy target something. A great entry and exactly what I was looking for.

Mistfire Trickery
So it’s a break open or a cyber-conversion. I like it! While you could play this in any deck, and I think some people would, it’s clearly got a better home in a deck with a lot of face-down creatures. It’s even an instant, which allows you to do some sneaky morph effects like flipping something for cheap after blocks. I might have argued it was too easy before, but considering that we just got expose the culprit, a 3 mana version is probably fine, with that extra mana (and the higher power level of commander) warranting the removal-y mode. The templating and implied setting are also well-done. Altogether very impressive.
~
And there you go! Thank you everyone who entered. Runners-up will be out shortly, and commentary not too long after that. It's been a while since I've run one of these, but it seemed to go alright, so thank you everyone!

having stripper izzy thoughts... he has a pair of regulars who like to book a room and request him for a private show. the leather daddy looking one (ed, he's learned) always settles back against booth first, one leg extended to rest on the bench and the other bent at the knee, foot planted firmly on the floor. the colorful polished one (stede) follows and sits in his lap, getting the perfect view of izzy while his boyfriend (at least izzy assumes ed's his boyfriend at this point, they've made this a bit of a habit) gets the perfect view of him
it's not that unusual for izzy to perform for a couple, though more often he's requested for groups (friends, coworkers, strangers, sometimes he can't tell). mostly he prefers it that way - all the more satisfying when he can make everyone in the room feel like they have a personal connection with him. that's the name of the game right, to make them want and feel wanted?
but this couple... they're different in a way that pulls at izzy's gut and makes him ache. stede watches izzy with devotion and izzy's learned what makes him bite his lip, what makes his eyes flutter, and how to get his head to tilt just so. his gaze is intoxicating, full of open adoration izzy wants to drown in
while stede watches izzy, ed mostly watches stede. sometimes he's leaned in close to stede's ear, whispering words izzy can never quite make out. what he can make out are stede's reactions, expressions unrestrained and on full display for both of them. sometimes ed leans back against the wall, one hand or the other resting on stede's thigh or hip or lower back. one time izzy notices them hold hands, fingers laced together, and it makes something else in him ache. other times ed actually does watch izzy, with his chin resting on stede's shoulder and something deep, something hungry in his eyes consuming as much of him as they can
if stede's gaze is the thing he wants to drown in ed's is the thing he wants to pull him under
#he just wants to be doomed and redeemed in the same breath okay babygirl is feeling all kinds of things at work and it's hard to focus#ofmd#ofmd hc#steddyhands#izzy hands#edward teach#stede bonnet#this was my second coherent thought after waking up#the first was about sex worker izzy but that's for another post#the best way i can describe the difference between how izzy feels about each of them watching him is this:#from stede it feels like gentle tender focused worship but the kind that has an echo of a smirk to it. the kind that holds confidence and#power and dominance in its care#from ed it feels like fiery deep consuming desire. the kind of pain that leaves a spreading warmth in its wake#i'm so curious how izzy deals with this in his mind because he's damn good at his job and he knows they both like coming to see him#specifically but he has other customers like that too. maybe the difference here is that he's also fighting with wanting them too#he's so used to drawing that boundary and defining the roles of himself as the desired one. even uses it as a measure of success - if he can#be the focus of someone's attention and pull their longing in his direction he's done well and that means good money and the boost of#pride and satisfaction that comes with it#but it's his job and yeah he has regulars but it's a one way street. be desired. make them want him and keep them wanting#he's not supposed to be the one who ends up seduced#i think the first few times izzy performs for ed and stede he thinks they're hot just like he would some other customers but it's a passing#but the more they keep coming back and he gets to know them or at least gets to know what they want from him and what they respond to best#well i think it gets harder for him to stay on his side. but he will. he always will because that's the agreement. he's seen what happens#when people have crossed that line and most of the time it ends up messy for everyone involved#but i think ed and stede would want to date him. court him even#maybe one time when they come in they ask if he can just sit with them and talk for a bit and they bring it up#izzy almost gives his default response that he's married (which half the time is met with a 'so what?' anyway) but stops himself for reasons#he tries not to look at too closely. instead says something about how he doesn't sleep with customers and stede saying 'we're not asking you#to hop right in bed with us' (and ed jumping in with 'but also we're not... not asking' and stede elbowing him so ed adding 'eventually')#basically stede explaining they'd both like to get to know him outside of work and see if the three of them get along as well as he thinks

Interaction Satisfaction
Tumblr media
A while ago, I was listening to the EDHRec podcast, and they mentioned a very weird piece of data: for Silumgar, the Drifting Death, a blue-black dragon deck, the card silumgar's scorn was more commonly played (at the time) than the original Counterspell. The latter is a UU hard counterspell, and the former is UU but only counters the spell if they pay one mana or they control a dragon. So why are people playing a strictly worse card?
Because it says dragon on it.
People love playing cards that fit with their deck, even if strictly better versions exist. This can be a great way to encourage players to play cards that they might not play otherwise. The type of player who loves playing big, powerful dragons might not care about putting some random two mana counterspell in the deck, even if it might be strategically wise. But this one says dragon on it.
This week's challenge: Design a piece of interaction (removal, protection, etc.) that appeals to a certain kind of commander deck.
Interaction is a broad term, but usually means something that doesn't add to the board, but responds to actions of others. Basically, any card that would be useless if you had no opponents.
Fitting a certain deck means that the card is geared towards certain strategies. Any deck can play Swords to Plowshares, but only an artifact deck should play Dispatch.
This contest assumes the cards will be in some sort of commander deck.
The best kind of card for this contest would be one that specifically shores up weaknesses of the deck in question. A go-wide deck needs protection from things that kill multiple creatures at once, so Clever Concealment is perfect.
Make sure to be careful about going "all in" on the theme. Mutant's Prey may seem great in a counter-centric deck, but if you're deck is having trouble going off, then it's a dead card. Dire Tactics is rough if you don't have a human, but at least you can still cast it to get rid of an Elesh Norn so you can start playing humans again.
Good luck everyone!
