I do understand that curly couldn't have truly done anything legally in the situation, however, it's important to note that he IS still the captain, and jimmy's friend. The bare minimum he could have done is hold jimmy accountable, but instead he thought that the situation would handle itself. Like simple drama i guess? In some way i do think he thought the matter could have been handled differently. In what ways? That's for curly to decide. After all, he WAS the captain and HAS been for a few years at least, and is clearly trusted by the company (enough for the company to hire jimmy). Even if he never dealt with this specific situation, his years of leadership experience should help him make a better decision than "it'll sort itself out!" Also, Shipping Anya X Curly (jimmy's f*cking enabler) only undermines the actual point of the story. You're pushing aside curly's involvement & responsiblity with what happened to anya and essentially turning it into "a cute ship dynamic!! X3" I can see curly and anya being friends beforehand, but not close friends. If they were close, Curly surely would have done more about the situation. And the same goes for if they were dating, or "intimate". Who in the right mind would brush off their girlfriends assault????

Reducing Curly's responsiblity when it comes to Anya's assault by shipping them is only further pushing the idea that "only the assaulter is to blame (no fucking shit sherlock??)" and further taking the responsiblity & blame away from the enablers of assualt. (Friends of assualters who don't say anything, people in power who don't take the assaulter accountable, and bystanders who don't do anything to help the assaulted.)

God knows that fandoms don't give a shit about the real character's canon feelings, Or canon in general... but I know damn well Anya wouldn't be comfortable with being in a relationship with her assaulters enabler, even after what happened, and even if Curly "improve" himself in the future. They could only work as a pair if the assault never happened. And to wrap this shit storm up; Anya x Curly as a ship is only further pushing toxic rape culture. It undermines Curly's involvement and responsiblity for Anya's assault, and further pushes the fandom into missing the entire point of the game. The game isn't "rape is bad" The game is "rape culture is bad." "enabling rape is bad, Enabling Sexual harassment is bad, Seeing something and doing nothing-" And hear me out "-is bad."

It’s just now hitting me that when Jimmy leaves the mouth of post crash Curly’s head in that bizzaro hallucination sequence it is symbolic of him as the parasitic tongue eating louse needing to leave the host after it has died.

The head is missing Curly’s eye likely representing that blind spot Curly had for Jimmy along with the last bit of Curly that Jimmy could feed off of and impose himself through is truly gone now, a realization that likely is another reason Jimmy broke down so quickly after the feast.

He no longer could hide beside the perception of Curly and now all his words and actions, at least in that moment, were all his own with no way else to spin the blame. He tried to feed his host itself, cause feeding off of him worked for Jimmy not understanding or admitting he’s eaten too much himself.

bro I don't understand how people don't catch that Jimmy hits Curly the second time he gives him his meds. Like you can hear Curly's confused "huh?" sound after the first blow, and he groans and yells in pain as more rain down on him before he eventually breaks down SOBBING. If it was him thrashing maybe there would be muted thumps, maybe he'd choke more forcefully, but he clearly isn't in a state to flail and toss with enough strength to create the noises we hear. Not only that, but Jim is very openly aggressive in his dialogue... And Curly becomes eerily still after the audio finishes playing, so much so that you can't even hear his usual labored breathing. I've seen very few people acknowledge this or even notice during gameplay and simply go "man curly really doesn't want his meds huh" and I guess it's a relatively small detail in the grand scheme of things but personally I really feel like it's an important indicator of just how much Jimmy resents Curly and how he sees him as subhuman when he can no longer be of use to him and realizing what actually happened is important to understanding Jim's relationship with Curly

The ending of Mouthwashing is pure gold because Curly, a man with a Savior Complex that doesn’t put any thought into the decisions he makes because he believes it’s pointless since everyone dies eventually, is put into a life-or-death situation where he’s the only one that doesn’t die.

Curly laughs when Jimmy pulls out the gun, probably has no earthly idea that Jimmy is about to stop acting like Curly does all the time pretending to “save” people (if Curly really cared about other people he would actually do something but we know he doesn’t) by stepping out of that role…

…and placing Curly in the CryoChamber.

little details im noticing that give away who crashed the ship (only based on the very first scenes)

"a length of nylon rope" - if you investigate the rope in the cockpit from curly's pov, he will mention his bet with jimmy. if you check it later from jimmy's pov, it says the same thing without the personal commentary (this is my favourite one)

same with the emergency generator, curly will remember swansea saying its trustworthy, jimmy simply doesnt think it would help a lot in an actual case of emergency

you sit in jimmy's seat when navigating the ship into the asteroid

"we dragged him out of the cockpit" i made a separate post about this but whoever crashed the ship was not in the cockpit. curly ran in there after jimmy escaped, which we actually get to play - not to mention the huge bloodstains on the floor just behind the control panels, why would they be there?

you dont have the code scanner. whenever you play from curly's pov, the code scanner will be in your inventory even if you dont need it in the scene at hand

Dark!Dragon finding his way back to Dawn, looking for something- anything- to reconnect him with who he had been.

He couldn’t read the news boards and fliers that were pinned and plastered around the village with the windmills, but he recognizes the face of the master in the photos and assumes the world at large knows of its death. He also recognizes his mother and father in those things he’s heard called “Bounty Posters”. He took them. They are old, and that bodes ill. He can’t make heads or tails of the letters and numbers anymore, but something in him knows that all those oblong circles at the bottom mean his parents have become very dangerous people.

Memory retraces his steps from the square, to the market, to the alleys and the backstreets. Sometimes he can almost see the bounce of copper red curls as his elder sister guides him…

And then he comes to the path that splits off the main road connecting Foosha to Goa, and he’s taken out of his reverie. It’s grown over. Just barely there anymore. He follows it. All the way to the ruin that had been his childhood home.

It’s a burnt out husk. A few timbers that had blackened to charcoal poking out of the foundation like rotted teeth. The garden is overgrown with all the plants his mother used to carefully tend, the vines and branches choking the life out of each other without the love and care she gave them.

He finds himself picking through the wreckage and finding nothing of the family that used to live here. All the pictures frames were broken and the photos unrecognizable, the furniture reduced to a few nails and screws in heaps of ash, toys nothing but a few stray bits of yarn and yellowed batting.

The root cellar has been ransacked. Preserved foods and local wines all missing from the shelves or broken on the floor. The loose stone that Mamay showed them, behind it where she and Tayta hid their most precious, sentimental things… The stone was moved, and everything behind it was gone.

There was nothing left.

He felt… empty.

Here he was, so close to everything, but farther than he’d ever been. The answer to the question that’s kept him alive and fighting for so long is right here, all around, but to broken to make sense of.

Had he been loved?

Had that been too much to ask for?

He sinks to the flagstones, wraps himself up in the ratty cloak around his shoulders.

He’ll sleep here tonight, and then… he doesn’t know. Pick a direction and fly as far from this damned place as he can.

Mouthwashing is genuinely one of the first fandom spaces in a while where I’ve seen people outright refuse to curate their own personal spaces and try to shame people for not making what they personal like/believe

Like this is not saying ignore any issues that come up or whatever is serious but like on the general terms of just not interacting with things that are not your personal take or interpretation, a genuine refusal to just look at and create things that you like.

Constantly seeing people repost art without credit to shit talk it and excusing it because “well it’s bad cause insert deeply personal and not actually a valid justification”, calling out people for silly comics or differing interpretations. Its not just a holier than thou mindset it’s just a weird hatred for things not specifically catered to you or your view point at this point and like it’s seriously the case of just follow and like what you want to see and block, mute or whatever doesn’t fit it.

Take this out of context all you like, but I just so odd to me to try and force people to interpret and engage with a media that is supposed to be purposefully vague and open in certain areas. Or just be mad that people like to play with and explore the characters outside the story, in different settings or with twists in events.

Like why is it an issue that someone is having fun with the game in a different way than you?
