“My work is propelled by a desire to both revel in and to transcend (perhaps as well to ultimately alchemize) a persistent sense of displacement in the human world. These works aim to fuse ancient and archetypal geometric forms with inky randomness to form totems to the idea that the big mess of it all will be beautiful eventually, and sometimes is so, even now. These are images that, having traveled the arc of the Ugly Duckling paradigm, are emboldened to be quietly and defiantly elegant.

Sexypink - Born in 1830 in Bilbao, Víctor Patricio de Landaluze (1828 - 1889) was a Spanish born painter active for much of his career in Cuba, Landaluce received a careful education, which included learning several languages. For a time he resided in Paris. His presence in Cuba was recorded around the year 1850. He is the best-known Cuban practitioner of costum brismo, depicting Cuba peasants (guajiros), landowners, and slaves. He taught at a the Academy of Fine Arts of San Alejandro in Havana, and served as its director. He opposed Cuban independence, an attitude reflected in his work; nevertheless his paintings provide a valuable view of nineteenth-century Cuban society. His works also depict a somewhat idealized view of plantation life.

His first work consisted in the illustration of the book "The Cubans painted by themselves". In 1862 he founded the satirical and cartoon newspaper Don Junípero and in 1881 he illustrated the work Tipos y Costumbres de la Isla de Cuba. Several of his works, including "Three Kings Day in Havana", are in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana.

It wasn’t too big of a surprise when Miss Myra Beckett left her Papa’s tobacco farm following her twenty-fourth birthday. Mister Myron Beckett always said his daughter was an independent spirit, and her Mama — may God rest her soul — always said she was too much trouble to ever marry. Nowadays, Myra lives in New York with her closest companion, an up-and-coming artist called Rosetta Nelson. Postcards sent to the remaining Beckett children say that Myra acts now, and has found more solid employment in a library. They say that Rosetta is the best painter since those Italian men of the Renaissance, and that her unkind husband walked out on her, and that she and Myra have recently gotten a puppy together. Ain’t that something? Well, Mister Beckett says over tea, at least she’s not living with a man unmarried…
