Boaz Mizrachi, Co-Founder and CTO of Tactile Mobility – Interview Series
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/boaz-mizrachi-co-founder-and-cto-of-tactile-mobility-interview-series/
Boaz Mizrachi, Co-Founder and CTO of Tactile Mobility – Interview Series
Boaz Mizrachi, Co-Founder and CTO of Tactile Mobility. Boaz is a veteran technologist and entrepreneur, holding over three decades of experience in signal processing, algorithm research, and system design in the automotive and networking industries. He also brings hands-on leadership skills as the co-founder and Director of Engineering at Charlotte’s Web Networks, a world-leading developer and marketer of high-speed networking equipment (acquired by MRV Communications), and as System Design Group Manager at Zoran Microelectronics (acquired by CSR).
Tactile Mobility is a global leader in tactile data solutions, driving advancements in the mobility industry since 2012. With teams in the U.S., Germany, and Israel, the company specializes in combining signal processing, AI, big data, and embedded computing to enhance smart and autonomous vehicle systems. Its technology enables vehicles to “feel” the road in addition to “seeing” it, optimizing real-time driving decisions and creating accurate, crowd-sourced maps of road conditions. Through its VehicleDNA™ and SurfaceDNA™ solutions, Tactile Mobility serves automotive manufacturers, municipalities, fleet managers, and insurers, pioneering the integration of tactile sensing in modern mobility.
Can you tell us about your journey from co-founding Charlotte’s Web Networks to founding Tactile Mobility? What inspired you to move into the automotive tech space?
After co-founding Charlotte’s Web Networks, I transitioned into a role at Zoran Microsystems, where I served as a systems architect and later a systems group manager, focusing on designing ASICs and boards for home entertainment systems, set-top boxes, and more. Then, a conversation with a friend sparked a new path.
He posed a thought-provoking question about how to optimize vehicle performance driving from point A to point B with minimal fuel consumption, taking into account factors like the weather, road conditions, and the vehicle abilities. This led me to dive deep into the automotive space, founding Tactile Mobility to address these complexities. We started as an incubator-backed startup in Israel, ultimately growing into a company on a mission to give vehicles the ability to “feel” the road.
What were some of the initial challenges and breakthroughs you experienced when founding Tactile Mobility?
One of our major early challenges was generating real-time insights given the vehicle’s limited resources. Vehicles already had basic sensors, but cars lacked insights into essential parameters like current vehicle weight, tire health, and surface grip. We tackled this by implementing new software in the vehicle’s existing engine control unit (ECU), which allowed us to generate these insights through “virtual sensors” that connected to the current vehicle setup and didn’t require additional hardware.
However, using the ECU to get the insights we needed presented as many problems as answers. An ECU is a low-cost, small computer with very limited memory. This meant our software originally had to fit within 100 KB, an unusual restriction in today’s software world, especially with the added complexity of trying to integrate machine learning and neural networks. Creating these compact digital sensors that could fit in the ECU was a breakthrough that made us a pioneer in the field.
Tactile Mobility’s mission is ambitious—giving vehicles a “sense of touch.” Could you walk us through the vision behind this concept?
Our vision revolves around capturing and utilizing the data from vehicles’ onboard sensors to give them a sense of tactile awareness. This involves translating data from existing sensors to create “tactile pixels” that, much like visual pixels, can form a cohesive picture or “movie” of the vehicle’s tactile experience on the road. Imagine blind people sensing their surroundings based on touch – this is akin to how we want vehicles to feel the road, understanding its texture, grip, and potential hazards.
How do Tactile Mobility’s AI-powered vehicle sensors work to capture tactile data, and what are some of the unique insights they provide about both vehicles and roads?
Our software operates within the vehicle’s ECU, continuously capturing data from various hardware sensors like the wheel speed sensor, accelerometers, and the steering and brake systems. Ideally, there will also be tire sensors that can collect information about the road. This data is then processed to create real-time insights, or “virtual sensors,” that convey information about the vehicle’s load, grip, and even tire health.
For example, we can detect a slippery road or worn-out tires, which improves driver safety and vehicle performance. The system also enables adaptive functions like adjusting the distance in adaptive cruise control based on the current friction level or informing drivers that they need to allow more distance between their car and the cars in front of them.
Tactile Mobility’s solutions enable vehicles to “feel” road conditions in real-time. Could you explain how this tactile feedback works and what role AI and cloud computing play in this process?
The system continuously gathers and processes data from the vehicle’s hardware sensors, applying AI and machine learning to convert this data into conclusions that can influence the vehicle’s operations. This feedback loop informs the vehicle in real-time about road conditions – like friction levels on varying surfaces – and transmits these insights to the cloud. With data from millions of vehicles, we generate comprehensive maps of road surfaces that indicate hazards like slippery areas or oil spills to create a safer and more informed driving experience.
Could you describe how the VehicleDNA™ and SurfaceDNA™ technologies work and what sets them apart in the automotive industry?
VehicleDNA™ and SurfaceDNA™ represent two branches of our tactile “language.” SurfaceDNA™ focuses on the road surface, capturing attributes like friction, slope, and any hazards that arise through tire sensors and other external sensors. VehicleDNA™, on the other hand, models the specific characteristics of each vehicle in real time – weight, tire condition, suspension status, and more (known in the industry as “digital tween” of the chassis). Together, these technologies provide a clear understanding of the vehicle’s performance limits on any given road, enhancing safety and efficiency.
How does the onboard grip estimation technology work, and what impact has it had on autonomous driving and safety standards?
Grip estimation technology is crucial, especially for autonomous vehicles driving at high speeds. Traditional sensors can’t reliably gauge road grip, but our technology does. It assesses the friction coefficient between the vehicle and the road, which informs the vehicle’s limits in acceleration, braking, and cornering. This level of insight is essential for autonomous cars to meet existing safety standards, as it provides a real-time understanding of road conditions, even when they’re not visible, as is the case with black ice.
Tactile Mobility is actively working with partner OEMs like Porsche, and the municipalities as City of Detroit. Can you share more about these collaborations and how they have helped expand Tactile Mobility’s impact?
While I can’t disclose specific details about our collaborations, I can say that working with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and city municipalities has been a long but rewarding process.
In general, OEMs can harness our data to generate critical insights into vehicle performance across different terrains and weather conditions, which can inform enhancements in safety features, drive assist technologies, and vehicle design. Municipalities, on the other hand, can use aggregated data to monitor road conditions and traffic patterns in real-time, identifying areas that require immediate maintenance or pose safety risks, such as slick roads or potholes.
What do you believe are the next major challenges and opportunities for the automotive industry in the realm of AI and tactile sensing?
The challenge of achieving accuracy in autonomous vehicles is likely the most difficult. People are generally more forgiving of human error because it’s part of driving; if a driver makes a mistake, they’re aware of the risks involved. However, with autonomous technology, society demands much higher standards. Even a failure rate that’s much lower than human error could be unacceptable if it means a software bug might lead to a fatal accident.
This expectation creates a major challenge: AI in autonomous vehicles must not only match human performance but far surpass it, achieving extremely high levels of reliability, especially in complex or rare driving situations. So we have to ensure that all of the sensors are accurate and are transmitting data in a timeframe that allows for a safe response window.
On top of that, cybersecurity is always a concern. Vehicles today are connected and increasingly integrated with cloud systems, making them potential targets for cyber threats. While the industry is progressing in its ability to combat threats, any breach could have severe consequences. Still, I believe that the industry is well-equipped to address this problem and to take measures to defend against new threats.
Privacy, too, is a hot topic, but it’s often misunderstood. We’ve seen a lot of stories in the news recently trying to claim that smart cars are spying on drivers and so on, but the reality is very different. In many ways, smart cars mirror the situation with smartphones. As consumers, we know our devices collect vast amounts of data about us, and this data is used to enhance our experience.
With vehicles, it’s similar. If we want to benefit from crowd-sourced driving information and the collective wisdom that can improve safety, individuals need to contribute data. However, Tactile Mobility and other companies are mindful of the need to handle this data responsibly, and we do put procedures in place to anonymize and protect personal information.
As for opportunities, we’re currently working on the development of new virtual sensors, one that can provide even deeper insights into vehicle performance and road conditions. These sensors, driven by both market needs and requests from OEMs, are tackling challenges like reducing costs and enhancing safety. As we innovate in this space, each new sensor brings vehicles one step closer to being more adaptable and safe in real-world conditions.
Another significant opportunity is in the aggregation of data across thousands, if not millions, of vehicles. Over the years, as Tactile Mobility and other companies gradually install their software in more vehicles, this data provides a wealth of insights that can be used to create advanced “tactile maps.” These maps aren’t just visual like your current Google maps app but can include data points on road friction, surface type, and even hazards like oil spills or black ice. This form of “crowdsourced” mapping offers drivers real-time, hyper-localized insights into road conditions, creating safer roads for everyone and significantly enhancing navigation systems.
Moreover, there’s an untapped realm of possibilities in integrating tactile sensing data more fully with cloud computing. While smartphones offer extensive data about users, they can’t access vehicle-specific insights. The data gathered directly from the vehicle’s hardware – what we call the VehicleDNA™ – gives a lot more information.
By leveraging this vehicle-specific data in the cloud, smart cars will be able to deliver an unprecedented level of precision in sensing and responding to its surroundings. This can lead to smarter cities and road networks as vehicles communicate with infrastructure and each other to share real-time insights, ultimately enabling a more connected, efficient, and safer mobility ecosystem.
Finally, what are your long-term goals for Tactile Mobility, and where do you see the company in the next five to ten years?
Our aim is to continue embedding Tactile Mobility’s software in more OEMs globally, expanding our presence in vehicles connected to our cloud. We expect to continue offering some of the most precise and impactful insights in the automotive industry throughout the next decade.
Thank you for the great interview, readers who wish to learn more should visit Tactile Mobility.

Understanding Nike’s Corporate Social Responsibility: Lessons for Students
Tumblr media
Nike, a distinguished commercial enterprise employer in the international sports apparel industry, has become a sturdy instance of how businesses may be socially accountable. In the past, Nike confronted problems with treating employees, but it has changed its approaches and now sets standards for ethical enterprise.
For college students and instructors, analyzing Nike's company social responsibility is not just about learning enterprise strategies; examining how accountability, creativity, and sustainability can change a brand's image is dangerous.
This blog examines what college students can research from Nike's transformation, presenting ideas about the difficulties and blessings, including social duty in business practices.
What is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)?
When businesses profit by helping society and its surroundings, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is used, used, and used. Consider CSR a specialty of three critical regions at its coronary heart: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). These areas assist agencies in decreasing their environmental impact, promoting truthful social practices, and maintaining honest and ethical management.
For organizations, CSR is more significant than just giving cash to correct causes; it’s a wise way to build customer agreement, improve long-term sustainability, and often boost income over time. Businesses that observe CSR can attract clients who care about moral and sustainable practices.
In practice, instances of Corporate Social Response encompass Starbucks' use of fair-exchange espresso beans, Tesla's advancing renewable power, and Nike's "Move to Zero" marketing campaign to reduce waste and carbon emissions. By incorporating CSR, groups help improve the world and gain an advantage within the modern-day market, which values social attention.
A Short History of Nike’s Efforts in Corporate Social Responsibility
Early Problems and Controversies
In the 1990s, Nike was strongly criticized for treating employees poorly, with tales of approximate sweatshops, low pay, and lousy factory operating conditions. This made people see Nike as more concerned with making a living than doing what’s right, leading to protests and people refusing to shop for its merchandise.
Making Changes
To fix this, Nike made big changes to regain people’s trust. They started being more open about their practices, checked their factories, and worked with other groups to make things better for workers. A vital part of this transformation became the “Nike Responsibility” plan, which centered on being extra sustainable and doing things ethically.
Nike's move from being involved in controversy to becoming a frontrunner in corporate social responsibility (CSR) teaches us the significance of taking responsibility and making adjustments. It shows how organizations can improve by facing their errors, specializing in moral improvement, and working toward lengthy-term social and environmental goals.
Nike's Strategy for Environmental Responsibility
Innovation for Sustainability
Nike has become a leader in sustainable innovation by incorporating environmentally nice practices into its merchandise and production procedures. A top-notch instance is using recycled materials and turning plastic bottles and vintage footwear into new things. Nike's innovative Flyknit generation is also a massive development, cutting down on fabric waste during production and generating lightweight, excessive-overall performance shoes. By rethinking design and manufacturing strategies, Nike shows how innovation can help sustainability without sacrificing quality or fashion.
Environmental Goals for Reducing Carbon and Waste
Nike is dedicated to reducing its environmental impact, as visible in its Move to Zero initiative. This software's objective is to reach zero waste and zero carbon emissions. The enterprise is transferring toward renewable strength in its operations and adopting methods that assist a circular financial system. Projects like “Nike Grind” take leftover materials from manufacturing and antique products and flip them into new substances, which facilitates reduced waste in landfills and saves assets.
By specializing in sustainability, Nike is decreasing its environmental effects and setting a well-known example for other companies to follow in responsible enterprise practices. This method suggests how groups can turn ecological troubles into possibilities for new ideas and growth, encouraging future generations to choose environmentally pleasant answers.
Social Responsibility: Strengthening Communities
Ethical Supply Chain Management
Nike has made significant efforts to guarantee that its supply chain runs ethically and sustainably. The company regularly checks the working conditions in its factories worldwide, intending to improve workers' well-being and stop unfair practices. Working with groups like the Fair Labor Association, which is not part of the government, has helped make the process more open and responsible. By focusing on ethical ways to manage its supply chain, Nike shows its dedication to protecting workers' rights and creating a more just global economy.
Supporting Local Communities
Besides its supply chain, Nike is committed to helping local communities by focusing on education, sports, and equality. They use these areas as critical ways to empower people. For instance, the "Girl Effect" software helps younger girls in developing international locations get schooling and opportunities, which could assist them in escaping poverty. Nike additionally provides sports packages for kids who don't have many resources, encouraging them to stay healthy and increase their management skills.
These actions make a positive difference in society and improve Nike's image as a brand that cares about social responsibility. For students doing economic dissertations, Nike's way of helping communities provides a strong example of how companies can combine social responsibility with their business practices to create real change in the world.
Nike and Human Rights Support
Nike is strongly devoted to encouraging range, fairness, and inclusion (DEI) in all its sports and past. The employer works hard to guide diversity in the workplace, ensuring everyone has the exact probabilities, regardless of race, gender, or historical past. Nike also stands up for critical global issues, leading efforts against racism and promoting fairness for women in sports and society.
Through programs like the Equality Campaign, Nike helps raise awareness for justice and inclusion, giving a voice to those who want social change. By supporting human rights, Nike strengthens its values and shows how businesses can help make the world better.
What Students Can Learn from Nike’s Social Responsibility Efforts
The Importance of Being Responsible
One key lesson students can learn from Nike's corporate social responsibility efforts is the importance of accountability. Nike’s decision to face and address past issues about unethical behavior shows that admitting mistakes can lead to real improvements. This move from defending their actions to making positive changes emphasizes how accountability can help rebuild trust and support long-term success.
Creative Ways to Solve Problems
Nike’s approach to social responsibility also highlights the value of creative thinking. By using sustainable materials like recycled polyester and creating advanced technologies such as Flyknit, Nike shows how companies can effectively tackle environmental and social problems. Thinking creatively no longer solves cutting-edge troubles; however, it makes a brand a frontrunner in sustainability.
The Long-Term Influence of CSR
Nike's experience demonstrates how CSR leads to lasting success. By making ethical choices and focusing on sustainability as part of their primary business activities, Nike has created strong customer loyalty and attracted people who care about social issues. These actions also help increase profits, showing that CSR is about doing the right thing and making intelligent business decisions.
For students, Nike's path with CSR provides a model for future leaders. It shows how ethical decisions and innovation can positively change business and society.
Challenges and Suggestions for Improvement
Although Nike has advanced, its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) tasks have confronted criticism. One common trouble is the accusation of greenwashing, wherein critics say Nike's sustainability efforts occasionally exaggerate their results. For example, while programs like "Move to Zero" are bold, some environmentalists think Nike should offer more proof of its successes.
Moreover, Nike is pushing its suppliers to reach challenging targets, which can sometimes cause problems like worsening working conditions. Managing ethical standards while meeting high production needs is a significant challenge.
To handle these issues, Nike should focus on being more open and providing clear and verified information about its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. Setting clear goals and regularly sharing updates would improve trust and credibility. By emphasizing accountability and showing tangible results, Nike can strengthen its image as a true leader in corporate responsibility and set higher standards for the industry.
Final Thought
In conclusion, Nike's path in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) provides important lessons about responsibility, creativity, and the lasting advantages of doing business ethically. From dealing with early issues to becoming a top company in sustainability and social impact, Nike's experience shows how connecting business aims with global welfare can be powerful. Knowing about CSR is crucial for students to be future business, politics, or education leaders. By studying examples like Nike's, students can enhance their research for economic dissertations, learning how responsible business actions help society and companies succeed.

What is Digital Inclusion? Breaking Down Barriers in the Digital Age
In today’s digital era, access to technology plays a pivotal role in shaping opportunities and progress for individuals and communities. Digital inclusion refers to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their socio-economic status, geographical location, age, or ability, has equal access to and the skills required to use information and communication technologies (ICT). It goes beyond simply providing access to the internet—digital inclusion is about empowering people with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in the digital world.
Why Digital Inclusion Matters?
As more aspects of life, from education to healthcare, become digitized, the gap between those who can navigate this digital landscape and those who cannot is widening. This digital divide leaves behind those who lack access to technology or the digital literacy to make use of it. Without digital inclusion, these individuals are often excluded from job opportunities, online education, essential services, and even social interaction. This exclusion exacerbates existing inequalities and creates barriers to development.
Key Components of Digital Inclusion
Access to Technology: Affordable and reliable internet access, along with necessary devices like smartphones, laptops, or tablets, is the first step toward digital inclusion.
Digital Literacy: Knowing how to use these technologies effectively is equally important. People must be equipped with digital skills, such as using the internet, operating software, and navigating digital tools.
Online Participation: Inclusivity means ensuring that individuals from all walks of life can engage in online services and platforms, such as e-government services, e-commerce, and social networks.
Capgemini’s Commitment to Digital Inclusion
An example of a company actively involved in promoting digital inclusion is Capgemini. Through their CSR initiatives, Capgemini has developed programs to bridge the digital divide. Their initiative, Digital Academy, provides digital skills training to underprivileged communities, equipping individuals with the knowledge needed to participate in the digital economy. By focusing on both access and education, Capgemini is helping to create a more inclusive digital future.
Conclusion
Digital inclusion is vital for ensuring that everyone can benefit from the opportunities the digital age offers. By addressing issues of access, digital literacy, and online participation, companies like Capgemini are making strides toward a more equitable and connected world, where technology is an enabler for all, not just a privileged few.

Top Skills Every HR Professional Needs in 2024
Tumblr media
As the role of human resources (HR) continues to evolve, HR professionals need to keep pace with emerging trends and develop new skills to remain effective in their roles. The year 2024 brings new challenges and here are the key skills HR professionals need to thrive in the modern workplace.
Technical Proficiency and Data Analytics
In today’s data-driven world, HR professionals must be adept at using HR management software and tools to streamline operations. Understanding HR analytics is vital for decision-making, especially in recruitment, employee performance tracking, and retention strategies. HR professionals need to interpret data to predict trends, measure employee satisfaction, and create strategies that align with organisational goals.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
While technical skills are important, communication remains at the heart of HR functions. HR professionals act as the bridge between management and employees, ensuring clear communication of policies, benefits, and organisational changes. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for managing conflicts, conducting interviews, and fostering a collaborative work environment. In regions like the Middle East, where HR jobs in Saudi Arabia are increasingly in demand, understanding cultural nuances and promoting clear communication across diverse teams is crucial.
Change Management
Organisations are constantly evolving, whether through mergers, technological advancements, or restructuring. HR professionals play a critical role in guiding employees through these changes. Strong change management skills are needed to support employees during transitions, reduce resistance, and maintain productivity. HR professionals must create change management strategies that are inclusive, empathetic, and focused on long-term employee well-being.
 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
In 2024, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion will continue to be a priority for HR departments. HR professionals must have the skills to implement DEI initiatives that not only foster a diverse workforce but also create an inclusive environment where all employees feel valued. Understanding DEI goes beyond compliance; it requires building programmes that address unconscious bias, ensure fair treatment, and promote equal opportunities for all employees.
 Adaptability and Flexibility
The workplace is no longer bound by traditional office spaces, with remote and hybrid work models becoming more common. HR professionals must be adaptable, flexible, and capable of managing employees across different locations and time zones. Flexibility is also key in HR recruitment agency practices, where finding the right talent requires understanding the nuances of remote and hybrid work arrangements.
Legal Knowledge and Compliance
HR professionals must stay up to date with employment laws and regulations to protect both the company and its employees. In 2024, understanding legal frameworks related to workplace safety, data protection, and labour laws is critical. Professionals need a strong grasp of risk management and compliance to ensure the organisation avoids legal pitfalls and maintains ethical standards.
Global Talent Management
As businesses expand globally, HR professionals are increasingly tasked with managing international teams. This requires a deep understanding of global talent management and cross-cultural communication. HR professionals must develop strategies that accommodate cultural differences, legal requirements, and global mobility issues while ensuring that company policies are consistent across regions.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability
Sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) are no longer optional for businesses. HR professionals are expected to integrate CSR into the workplace, promoting ethical practices and sustainability initiatives. HR’s role in shaping a company’s social impact includes creating policies that support environmental goals, community engagement, and fair labour practices, making it an essential skill set for the future.
In conclusion, HR professionals in 2024 need to balance technical expertise with human-centred skills to navigate the changing workplace. By mastering these skills, they will be well-equipped to contribute to organisational success in a rapidly evolving business landscape.
