The Five Types of Readers That Read Your Fantasy Book (For Writers)
As a fantasy writer, understanding your target audience is crucial for the success of your book. Knowing the different types of readers who are drawn to the genre can help you tailor your writing to their preferences and create a more engaging experience. In this blog post, I'll help you explore the five types of readers that are likely to read your fantasy book and provide insights into their characteristics and expectations.
The Escapist Reader
The first type of reader is the Escapist. These readers are looking for a break from reality and crave immersion in a rich and imaginative world. They are drawn to epic quests, magical creatures, and fantastical settings. As a writer, you can capture their attention by crafting a vivid and detailed world, filled with intricate plotlines and larger-than-life characters. Engaging their sense of wonder and providing an escape from their everyday lives will keep them hooked from the first page to the last.
The World-Builder
The next type of reader is the World-Builder. These readers are fascinated by the intricacies of world-building and the lore that shapes the fantasy realm. They enjoy exploring the history, mythology, and geography of the fictional world you create. To captivate these readers, focus on developing a well-constructed and cohesive world that feels authentic and believable. Pay attention to the small details, establish consistent rules of magic, and provide glimpses into the rich tapestry of your universe.
The Character-Driven Reader
Another important type of reader is the Character-Driven reader. These readers are emotionally invested in the journeys and growth of the characters they encounter. They want to experience the highs and lows alongside the protagonists, forming deep connections with them. To engage these readers, focus on creating well-rounded and relatable characters with compelling arcs. Develop their motivations, flaws, and relationships to evoke empathy and resonate with your audience on a personal level.
The Plot-Oriented Reader
The fourth type of reader is the Plot-Oriented reader. These readers are primarily interested in the twists, turns, and surprises that unfold throughout the story. They enjoy intricate and well-paced plots that keep them guessing. As a writer, you can capture their attention by crafting a narrative with unexpected twists, clever foreshadowing, and satisfying resolutions. Keep the suspense high and deliver a satisfying payoff to keep these readers engaged and coming back for more.
The Theme-Seeker
The final type of reader is the Theme-Seeker. These readers are drawn to the deeper meanings and messages embedded within a story. They enjoy exploring philosophical, moral, or social themes that resonate with them on a personal level. As a writer, you can captivate these readers by weaving thought-provoking themes into your narrative. Explore complex issues, challenge societal norms, and offer unique perspectives to stimulate their intellect and leave a lasting impact.
Conclusion
Understanding the different types of readers that are drawn to your fantasy book can help you tailor your writing to their preferences and create a more immersive experience. Whether you are capturing the attention of Escapist readers, captivating the World-Builders with your intricate lore, evoking emotions in Character-Driven readers, surprising Plot-Oriented readers, or stimulating the intellect of Theme-Seekers, knowing your audience is key. By crafting a story that resonates with these reader types, you increase your chances of creating a loyal fan base and achieving success as a fantasy writer.
Blow your readers mind. Happy writing!

Fantasy Worldbuilding Questions (Clothing and Fashion)
Clothing and Fashion Worldbuilding Questions:
What is considered typical or everyday dress for each region?
What values or status does society confer to clothing (or is it entirely functional, or even non-existent)?
Who is permitted to wear what? Are there taboos, superstitions, or laws governing dress? Why?
Who has access to clothing? Which fabrics are cheaper and which more expensive (and why)?
Where are fabrics and other materials used in clothing sourced, and is their production ethical or problematic in some way?
Where are specific dress codes or uniforms enforced, and what are they?
When do styles or what people typically wear change, are there seasonal, spiritual, customary or other aspects to this?
When have (or will) clothing styles change in the world, and what are the economic, environmental, or other contributing factors?
Why is clothing in this world the way it is, what are the aesthetic beliefs, meanings or symbolism ascribed to colors, and other contributing factors?
Why does gender, class or race impact what people wear (for example, a group may have spiritual or familial meaning attached to the type of jewelry or body modification members embrace).

A very detailed character biography to help build characters. I found the original template HERE and edited it to make it more suitable for the characters I'm creating, and also to add some more details, such as a mental illness checklist section to use for myself to reference (because it helps to know what's wrong with your characters) and other details. You may not need so many minor details for a character, but you never know if you'll end up needing an explanation for something. I'll be using this template myself so I figured I'd share it in case it could help others too. I have edited it to better suit my own medieval fantasy characters, so I'm not sure how well it will work with other genres. Enjoy. ♡

So the uh, redesigned Frankie Stein thing ended up sparking a conversation on Discord and so...
Meet Lilie. The last thing she remembers is falling into a river, only to wake in a strange labratory in Geneva with a giant claiming to be her new father, and a gaunt gentleman trying to keep the giant happy while also keeping the giant from disappearing with Lilie off into the mountains...
Lilie just wants to go home, but that might not possible anymore, after all, she's not the girl she was before...
(Basically an Au where The Creature fails to save the girl in the river, brings home the body and asks Victor to make him a daughter instead of a bride. The Creature is selfish, Victor experiences parental guilt all over again and Lilie is having an existential crisis--Thanks to everyone on the LXGF Discord who helped make this AU and especially @see-arcane for giving this monsterous creation its name "The Wretched Family")

Creating Memorable Side Characters
Not everyone gets to be the star of the show. Side characters fill out your world and add context to your main character’s journey. Often they are the parents, friends, or coworkers of your main character and as important of a role they play in the MCs life, it’s easy to forget they exist until we need them next.
While they shouldn’t take the main stage, creating memorable side characters gives them a sense of realism and importance. They can provide motivation, inspiration, or a little bit of support when the MC needs it next, which will all land harder if we care about them as people. So here’s a few ways to do it:
Give them a little arc.
While the journey of the main character is why we’re reading your story, they aren’t the only people who can change. Allowing your side characters some development across the story, even in small ways, can add a layer of depth and intrigue to them. This can look like going from “dad hates all of MC’s friends” to “dad houses and feeds all the friends when they need it most”.
2. Give them a space
Unmemorable characters are treated more like tools to the narrative than people. If your side character shows up wherever they are needed at any given time, they’ve become a plot convenience rather than a person. Give them a place to exist—they hang out in the library, they can be found at the café down the street, they’re three phone calls and a flare in the sky away. Give them a reliable place that’s just theirs.
3. Give them a point of interest
While your side characters aren’t going to be as fully developed as your MCs, you can pretty easily give them some intrigue and the hint of a broader life by giving them a specific point of interest. Maybe the friend is in the photography club, the parents go out to drag shows on the weekend, the coworker always has a new crochet scarf to bring to work, etc. Just make sure it doesn't stand in alone for further character development.
What are some examples of memorable side characters you can think of?

Been inundated with posts about the character descriptions in the 7seas mxtx releases, and I just wanna say that I find it the highest level of disrespect how a publisher treated someone’s serious writing that they bought the publishing rights for as a little jokey joke that’s lead to so many people’s misconceptions about said book. Tell me: why do these character sheets include publisher/translator opinions on the characters? Why do these character sheets directly go against what the actual text has to say about these characters? Why do these novels need character sheets?
#mdzs#svsss#tgcf#i am once again hating on 7seas#as having done the most offensive translation work i have ever seen#we don’t have character sheets for 20+ long book series published in english#none of the mxtx novels came with built-in character sheets#so what fucking right did 7seas have to insert them?#when will people who *aren’t* racist#be given the resources and prestige to handle cross-cultural work?#i don’t care how serious or not serious you think any of these books are#someone *made* them#and that act of creation should be treated with the fucking respect that *creating something* deserves#and if you do not want to do that#then don’t go into that line of work

I'm so glad to have FNaF be an interest of mine. I've met friends with it, interact with many people with it, and I enjoy making art of it. Every new release makes me feel so much specific joy I felt years ago. I love Five Nights at Freddy's so much and I'm so glad it exists.

Archone's creation for the Reforged!<зз
First version of scaling, eyeing serpentine concluded for the oncoming chapter!<з
Within the current character's creation there are approached:
Two dispositions for the Archone - of delicately so demure volitions, within of purely so visual practicality (for they shall not apply the way Archone is referenced, nor there are to be expressively expected changes of the storyline, narration withal, towards the change of disposition). Both body styles expect all-equal sets within the clothes, accessories and archetypes, and hairstyles strived~
Four earlier archetypes for open choosing - within the future, more of them to be added and approached forth. Within those archetypes, a variation of other story's figures to be added and concluded along by further chapters, too.
Seven hairstyles, all-equalised for every disposition, six variations, too, within the eyes!<з
Eight sections of jewelry approached, able to be put within the layers over each one another by a choice. Within of them - two necklaces, two types of earrings, two headbands, one headpiece, and one patch for eye.
And more to be then gradually added by other chapters and date's volitions!<зз
