Bruised
Characters: Lip Gallagher x reader, Fiona, Ian, Debbie, V
Summary/ Request: How do you think lip would react if fwb that they've known each other forever ends up coming to the house in the middle of the night in the middle of winter with sleep shorts and a tank top with socks, covered in bruises
Words: 1.5k
Warnings: Parent abuse, physically abuse
A/N: PROTECTIVE LIP AHHHHH!!!! I just love him and know he'd protect reader at ALL COST! All mistakes are mine as I am sometimes too lazy to proof read but I hope you enjoy!! Let me know what you think!! <3
You are in a daze.
Your frail body shakes as the sudden flashbacks of yelling and pushing and crying continue to play in your head. Trying to understand, to comprehend what in the hell just happened. Thinking a million thoughts yet completely nothing at all. Your head aches, the shooting pressure builds, beating against your skull.
The snow crunches under your steps, soaking through your socks as you stumble to keep yourself up right. The icy wind causes you to tremble more than the horrors of the night. Barely able to keep your eyes open wide enough to see where you are going.
Having no particular destination in mind but here you are standing outside Lip Gallagher’s house, knocking on the door in the middle of the night, begging to be let in.
Lip has been the person you’ve leaned on for almost every bullshit thing that has happened in your life, understanding each other on a deeper level. It was only recently that your relationship with Lip became sexual but your connection was much more than that. And unfortunately neither of you have the guts to make it anything more than just friends who sleep together.
Your knocking rapidly increases, quickly becoming impatient until you hear the lock on the other side click and the porch light turn on. Coming face to face with his older sister Fiona who’s look of annoyance quickly washes over with concern, brows furrowing, mouth open in shock as she stares at your fragile body, wearing only a cotton tank top, small boxer shorts and socks shielding you from the cold. Your exposed skin is covered in purple bruises, deepening in color with every second that you tremble in front of her.
Immediately snatching one of the jackets off the hook behind her and wrapping it around your shoulders as she pulls you inside. Goosebumps lining your skin as the warm, inside air circles around you. The pain is no longer from the cold but from the aching bruises.
And while your world has been turned upside down, a happy boy on the next street over is fighting a huge grin as he walks back home.
The extra skip in Lip’s step was from the wonderful night he just spent with Karen, mainly the sex part. Their relationship has become more positive and Lip hopes that they are finally going to make it more official, like boyfriend/ girlfriend official, no one else on the side.
But...becoming official with Karen means that he will no longer get to see you...at all. Karen is hugely jealous of your relationship with Lip. The inside jokes, the constant hanging out, the connection that she sees that you two are obviously oblivious to. And the only way that she agreed to making things official with Lip is that he will have to cut off all ties with you.
Lip is feeling torn, picking between you and Karen should be so easy for him but these past couple of months, especially when you add sex into the equation, makes him question everything. He lets out one more deep breath, the fog floating in front of him as he knows that tomorrow he will finally have to tell you that you can’t be friends anymore. Knowing that the outcome is going to be disastrous.
Skipping every other skip as he jogs up the stairs of the back porch, a curious thought enters his mind as he notices all the lights shining into the darkness of the night and the door unlocked as he jiggles the handle. Walking into the warm kitchen, unwrapping his scarf and shrugging off his jacket, dismissing the items onto the table until some unknown later time.
The commotion from the front end of the house travels around his body as he stumbles to kick off his boots, catching himself on the wall by the stairs to stop himself from falling over. Peaking around the corner, trying to understand the roaring chaos that fills that Gallagher house tonight.
Ian comes down the stairs, his hand placed on his forehand and the other holds a phone tightly to his ear. Practically arguing with the person on the other line, speaking some details about a house over on Gilmore Street.
Gilmore Street…that’s where you live.
Lip’s interest suddenly peaked, his face asking a plain question towards his younger brother…what the hell is going on here?
But Ian waves him off, continuing on his story on how the police need to check on the house now and how something really fucked up happened.
Lip stands there dumbfounded, trying to figure out this super confusing situation that he just walked into. His attention floats elsewhere as the two women in the next room talking abruptly loud. If he didn't know Fiona and V personally, then he would think hat they are arguing. Walking closer to the dining room but not actually in the room itself, Lip watches their interaction.
Their movements are elaborate and complex. Fiona runs fingers through her hair, tossing it to one side, passing the hard floor beneath her. The conversation between them is making no sense to Lip, something about having to wait until tomorrow and trying to solve some problem.
Lip stands still, his mind trying to piece the puzzle together from the small details that he has been given. But how could he, when it feels like everyone is talking in code. Like it's some top secret event that he can't know anything about.
Feeling something graze his side, bringing him back to reality to see Debbie walk between the two women towards the living room. In her hands a mug with steam coming from it. Walking quickly to the couch where she hands the mug to a girl. Lip following Debbie's same movements to get a better look at who's in his house. Eyes wide when it see that it's you...
A confused look freezes on his face as he studies your body. Your shaky hands reach out towards the mug as the warm contains seeping through the glass cup through your body. Your eyes fixated in front of you, as if the small girl standing in front of you isn’t actually there. Your chest heaving rapidly, breathing heavily through your nose. Knees bruised, shaking together.
It is as if the dam that keeps the water of emotions behind a strong wall suddenly shatters. The instant fire spreads through Lip’s body as he sees your weak state. The walls of decorum crumble as his hands turn into fist and his jaw locks. The blood making his face bright red, moving quickly to your side, his knees hitting into the wooden floors hard as he practically pushes Debbie out of the way so he is kneeling in front of you.
“WHAT HAPPENED?” Lip voice breaks through the chaos of the house as he holds onto your shoulders, shaking slightly but your gaze would shift to meet his, “What happened, tell me!” He whines, the pain mixed with anger driving his actions.
“Don’t yell at her dummy.” Fiona shouts as she comes over, grabbing Lip off the floor so they are face to face.
“What the fuck is going on?” The spit spewing from his mouth, his hand signaling towards you and why you are bruised and bleeding and hurt. Why you? Why you?
“We don’t know. Your little girlfriend just showed up here like 10 minutes ago.” V crosses her arms behind Fiona.
“She’s not my girlfriend,” Lip quickly remarks, the comment would have stung you more if you can actually concentrate but tonight is not the night for you to be dwelling over how Lip Gallagher feels about you.
Your soft voice speaks his name.
Lip coming to you again, “Hey,” Lip’s kind eyes are on you, his touch now gentle as his heart aches.
Eyes shaking as they meet him, glossing over as a tear slips down your cheek. But you struggle to get any words out.
“Just tell me what happened?” His hand on your cheek, wiping away the tears, “Please tell me.”
Gulping hard, your trembling body making the liquid in your mug move, hesitating as you say, “My dad."
“He got out?”
“From where?” Debbie asks.
Lip groans, hate having to explain further, “Prison. Shut up.” Debbie rolls her eyes, obviously annoyed.
“Th-this morning.” The words feel like cotton balls in your mouth.
“He did this to you?” Standing up immediately, “I’m gonna kill that motherfucker. Get the bat Ian.” He points towards his brother who instantly follows his orders.
The tears start flowing now, the snob leaking from your nose. Your body collapsing as the abuse of the night finally settles in causing you lose yourself.
“Lip.” Deb pulls Lip's attention back to you.
“She needs you right now buddy. You can beat the son-of-a-bitch up tomorrow.” Fiona patting his back before leaving the room.
And he knew Fiona was right. He didn't need to be this guy who beat the shit out of some low-life, that isn't going to make him a hero to you. Lip needs to be here for you now, comfort you, take care of you. Be the man that you need.
He realized why you came over to his house, looking for him at your darkest moment. Understanding that you and him can spend hours together without saying a word. Be closer, more intimate then sex with Karen will ever be. It was always going to be you, he was always going to pick you.
Wrapping his arms around you as you sob deeper against his chest, shushing as he rocks you, "I've got you." Kissing the top of your head. The instantly relief coating your body.
~~~
Let me know what you think!! thank you for reading. I LOVE YOU!!!
around the world | lewis hamilton x fem! reader
summary; influencer y/n decides to do the trend of showing off her outfits with lewis as they traveled around the world.
warnings; none ??
word count; 815
taglist; @namgification @louvrepool @locelscs @thehufflepuffavenger1
note; requested! this was longer than expected😭😭
masterlist !
“Okay, ready?” Y/n questions after setting up her phone on the desk in their room. They were currently in their hotel room in Las Vegas, almost ready to leave for the opening of the Las Vegas Grand Prix when she got the idea to shoot the tiktok.
“Wait, what do I do again?” Lewis asked with a chuckle, smoothing down the long black coat he wore on top of a black top with a deep v-neck.
“I showed you like 20 times, Lew.”
“Was too distracted by your pretty face.”
Y/n playfully rolls her eyes, ignoring the blush on her face as she holds one hand out. “Just clap my hand while crossing your legs at the same time.” She explains while copying the motion.
Since they were known as a fashionable couple who always matched, she wore a similar outfit to his but in a dress form. She wore a midi tight black dress with a v-neck and a matching black coat. They both wore their matching pearl necklaces from Valentino and even had matching sunglasses. She of course had her black mini Kelly in hand, an anniversary gift from him from a couple years prior.
“Ready, Lew?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be, gorgeous.”
Y/n puts on the countdown and takes a couple steps back to make sure their full outfits are in the frame. The moment the song began, she held her hand out and Lewis did exactly what she explained to him.
“Perfect, now I just gotta remember when we go to Abu Dhabi.”
⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆
“Okay, now we do the same but in these outfits,” Y/n explains again, adjusting her phone in his driver's room. Fortunately, she was quick to remember to record the next part of her TikTok.
They both wore baggy red pants but Lewis wore a white Mercedes shirt while she just wore a plain white blouse with a white Lady Dior in hand.
“Same thing as last week, right?” He asked with a smile as she began the timer.
“Exactly!” She nods in reply, her smile matching his. The song began to play and they copied the same movement they did the week before. Once it was over, she quickly grabbed her phone to check the footage. “Oh, this is gonna be amazing once we finish!”
⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆
“Roscoe, sit,” Lewis tells the bulldog who wore a wide smile. They both watch as Y/n props up her phone on the front porch of their home in England.
The ground was white with snow and the sky let more snowflakes fall. They were wearing layers upon layers due to the freezing temperatures. Of course, they had matching navy blue jackets, and even Roscoe wore a matching vest. Their pants were both black but he wore black boots while she opted for navy boots.
She adjusts the grey scarf she wore that matches his as she starts the timer. “Roscoe, smile for the camera!” She exclaimed, rushing over to stand on the other side of the dog.
Roscoe was seemingly posing as the song began once again, and again Lewis and Y/n did the same movement.
“Roscoe is gonna look so good in that one!” He lets out a laugh, the corner of his eyes crinkling as he bends down to pet his bulldog’s head.
“He’s such a good boy, aren’t you, Roscoe?”
⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆
“Ending it with Brazil?”
“To let the fans know it’s our honeymoon.” Y/n replies in a ‘duh’ tone. She smiled at him and glanced at their matching outfit once again. Lewis had decided to take his braids out and wear his natural curls for the summer, something he usually does when he isn’t racing.
His honey-brown curls were tied into a low bun and covered by a blue hat. He wore an oversized yellow Nike shirt and an earth-green tone pair of baggy pants. Y/n opted for wearing a skirt the same color and a blue Christian Dior tote bag instead of the cap. She also wore a yellow Nike top but it was fitted instead of loose.
It was one of her favorite outfits in one of their favorite countries. Brazil was always special to him and it became special to her, hence their honeymoon location.
“Okay, last one, and be ready!” She exclaims, pressing the countdown once again.
Lewis couldn’t help but stare at her with adoration in his eyes and a loving smile as they did the same moves for the last part of her video. He can already see all the comments they’d get on how he stared at her but he honestly couldn’t care.
He zoned out as he watched Y/n get excited over the video. He was eternally grateful that he was able to go around the world with his wife by his side.
Right Where You Left Me
a/n: I was going to wait to post this but I had written a lot more than I thought the last time I touched this. A little lengthy bc I’m a yapper but here's part two of Tolerate It. I'M SORRYYYYY 🥹
The flurries Abby had seen as she walked into work this morning quickly turned into actual snowfall. Twelve hours later, everything around her is covered in a thick blanket of white snow. Traffic had been worse than usual, making her already shitty commute twice as long. A breath she hadn't realized she was holding leaves her when she finally pulls up to the curb in front of her home. She's safe. Forcing her frozen fingers to uncurl from the death grip she had on the steering wheel, she parks the car, cursing when she feels it slide just a little. She was due for a tropical vacation soon.
Despite her disdain for the snow, Abby can admit the quaint neighborhood looks beautiful. Thousands of multicolored lights adorn the houses and yards around her. Laughter from the kids having a snowball fight across the street fills the night air. Their giggles make Abby's heart feel a little lighter. A couple of her neighbors have their curtains drawn, displaying their immaculately decorated trees. It reminds her of those cheesy hallmark movies she secretly loves watching.
Abby cringes when she realizes her house is the only dark one on the street. In her mind she can see the purple Post-It still stuck to the fridge reminding her to pull the outdoor decor down from the attic and actually decorate. The red plastic tubs have been sitting at the top of the steps for weeks. She trips over them constantly, telling herself she'll get to them tomorrow, but it seems there were just never enough hours in the day. Eighty hour work weeks left little room for anything else- not that she had much going on. If she wasn't at the gym, or catching up on some much needed sleep, she was at the hospital.
Her head hits the steering wheel in defeat when she taps the screen on her phone and catches sight of the date. It's the twentieth of December.
"Too late to do anything about it now." She mumbles to herself. Her palms dig into her tired eyes. Today was truly the day from hell.
But the universe doesn't seem to be quite done with her just yet. Over the hum of her ac blowing she hears a familiar tune. Her head snaps to the radio in recognition. Her usual radio station has switched over to playing nothing but Christmas music for the night. It's your favorite song. Shit. Her shaky index finger blindly reaches for the button to kill the engine before throwing the door open, jacket forgotten in the passenger seat.
She shivers as she speed walks to her front door trying her hardest not to slip on the icy sidewalk. The straps of her work bags dig painfully into her right shoulder when she bends down to collect the multiple packages that had accumulated on her porch. After days of ignoring them, they were starting to block the doorway. But hey, at least this year she had gotten ahead on Christmas shopping.
These days it was all about the small wins. —
Abby drops the mattress she dragged out of the guest room in front of the fireplace with soft grunt. She hasn't done this in years, but she needs it today. This had been one of your favorite ways to unwind after a long week. Always there waiting for her with a big smile and her favorite snacks, a movie waiting to be played on the tv. In the later months of the year, around the holidays, Abby could always count on finding a pair of pajamas for her that matched yours laid out on your shared bed. She had always thought it was kind of silly when you had a perfectly good bed and tv upstairs. Now, she could only dream of coming home after a long day to a warm house and you bundled up in blankets waiting up for her.
It's quiet as she stares out the window watching snow fall. Her head is fuzzy from the wine and she knows she's going to regret it tomorrow. The movie she randomly picked half an hour ago is now muted. She can hear the distant buzzing of her personal phone from somewhere in the kitchen, but she can't be bothered. Calls from her family trying to confirm next weeks plans go ignored. Abby loves them, but the thought of being asked if she was ready to start dating again before trying to set her up with the friend of a friend for the fifth year in a row made her want to cancel her flight home. She can't stand the pity in their eyes every time they look at her.
Bleary eyes roam around the room, the sight of the unlit, half-decorated tree in the corner and the lone stocking missing its pair hanging off the mantle make her chest hurt in a way it hadn't in a while. It may not look like it, but she had tried. Most of the Christmas stuff actually made it out of the attic this year. Which is more than she can say for last year, and the years before that. She'd finally gotten the tree out and decorating had been going well, until she pulled out that ornament.
The little house you had custom made to look like a tiny replica of the first place the two of you were sharing as a married couple. Abby remembers how excited you'd been, staying up waiting for her to come home from a late night so you could open it together. The look in your eyes as you traced over the details, the names stamped on the back. You made her hold it as you hooked it onto the tree, wanting to do it together.
Her fingers trace over the pink floral pattern on the sheets. You'd picked these out, excited to host her parents over the thanksgiving holiday for the fist time. Abby didn't have the heart to change them out. Minus your personal things, she didn't have the heart to make any changes to your original decor. You'd made the house a home. Some nights she swears she can catch a whiff of your favorite candle, or the lavender spray you'd douse the pillows with before going to bed.
Abby gives up, shutting the tv off and settling into her pillow, ready for today to be over. She can't help but feel silly laying here in the dark by herself. Nights like this had been more fun with you around. Everything in her life had been more fun with you around.
You made Abby's life magical, she just hadn't realized it until it was too late. ---------------------------
Abby watches you push your food around your plate out of the corner of her eye. The scraping of the fork makes it hard to focus on the conversation happening in front of her. Would it kill you to at least try to look interested? Her hand lands on your upper thigh, squeezing lightly to get your attention. The two of you exchange subtle glares.
It isn't until her colleagues retreat back to their own table that she finally looks at you. You're swirling the ice in your drink around with a straw. Your gaze fixed on the window, staring out at the busy street. She had thought a nice dinner at your favorite restaurant would soften you up a little, but with how little you've spoken all night and your plate still full, she's starting to worry.
After an explosive fight the morning after she'd forgotten your wedding anniversary, you'd been distant. In all the years Abby had known you, she could count on one hand the amount of times you'd fought, and even then the two of you could never stay away for long. Communication was one of the things you prided yourself on the most, never wanting to go to bed angry at each other. But it's been three weeks and Abby realizes she's really fucked up.
"Alright, what's going on with you?"
"Oh, now you notice." You retort. Her eyebrows knit together, surprised at the thinly veiled anger in your voice.
"You're so dramatic." She huffs. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Your eyes shift to the side, teeth gnawing on your bottom lip. She can practically see the gears turning in your head. You're holding your tongue.
"Abigail, let's not do this right now." You beg. "Please."
"No. We're going to talk now." She speaks lowly, grateful for the little privacy the corner table provided. "Sitting in silence isn't going to make this go away. Stop being childish and tell me how to fix this."
You looked her in the eye, no longer seeing the person you fell in love with. Knowing that if you stayed you'd end up losing yourself in someone who couldn't love you the way you deserved anymore. There was no way you could have the family you wanted with someone who constantly prioritized their work, making you feel like you were the distraction.
Your lips part on a shaky exhale. You can't keep lying awake at night contemplating this. You have to do it now. From the corner of your eye you can see the couple at the table closest to you subtly lean towards you.
Abby leans back in her seat waiting for you to speak up. Her arms folded across her chest. The way her leg bounces up and down gently shakes the table. Something about the dejected look in your eyes makes her panic inside.
"I want a divorce."
---------
Department store wrapping stations were a small luxury Abby didn't mind spending the money on. She wasn't the best gift wrapper, often leaving rips or weird folds on anything that wasn't shaped like a box.
She stands in line with all the other last minute shoppers, people watching when her eyes fall on the last person she thought she'd ever see again. Abby swears she must be dreaming. Her knees nearly buckle when she sees you standing there slowly making your way through a rack of baby clothes. A little boy no younger than two perched on your hip, his leg trying to sit comfortably against the small swell of your stomach. He's a carbon copy of his mother. Abby sees you wherever her eyes land on his face.
Your hair is longer, framing your pretty face. There's a glow to you that she doesn't remember seeing in those last two years of your marriage. Your eyes are tired but bright, even from here Abby can see the way they sparkle when you stare at the little boy in your arms. Nothing like the cold way you'd looked at her that fateful night.
Her heartbeat pounds in her ears as she steps out of line, making her way to a more secluded section of the store. Hiding behind a tie display she watches you interact with your son. For a moment she pretends that you're still hers and that the last five years didn't happen. Pretends that she didn't fuck up the best thing that had ever happened to her. God, she feels like a delusional creep.
A tall woman walks up behind you, making a silly face at your toddler. You smile when he reaches out for her, trading the boy for the to-go cup she was holding out to you. Abby doesn't have to guess what you're drinking. She knew how much you hated coffee, preferring hot chocolate to keep you warm in the colder months. Her stomach bottoms out when you raise the cup to your lips.
A ring that isn't hers sits on your finger.
Abby didn't realize how big of a gut punch that would feel like. While you still spoke to her parents from time to time, they made sure not to relay any information to her. She knew you wouldn't stay single forever, but actually seeing you like this ripped apart whatever was left of her heart.
You'd gone silent on social media since the split. A new and private Instagram account was all she could find one night after she'd been drinking a little too much. She'd cried herself to sleep, wanting nothing more than to be a part of your world again.
She studies your wife, who's everything Abby isn't. Her long brown hair is pulled back in a loose bun, the pink knit beanie on her head matches the scarf currently wrapped around your neck. Dark eyes watch your face intently with a smile as you hold up a onesie to her. Abby looks down at her old college sweats and worn sneakers, nothing like the well put together outfit she's wearing. The woman even looks like she gets more than five hours of sleep each night for crying out loud.
She looks happy. Something Abby hasn't been for a long time.
And judging by the way you're looking at her, like she hangs the stars in the sky, Abby can see how happy you are. She bites the inside of her cheek, refusing to remember what it felt like to have you look at her that way. Tears prickle in her eyes as you make your way down to the front of the store, dramatically blowing kisses at the giggling toddler being carried just a few steps ahead of you. One of your hands rubbing softly at your bump.
Abby startles when you look back towards the men's section, eyes going straight to the tiny display she stood behind. Of course you spotted her. You lock eyes with her. There's a tiny smile on your face watching her come out of her shitty hiding spot. For a moment you two stand there just staring at each other. Abby's aware you probably look crazy to anyone watching but she can't bring herself to care.
Those are my sweats. You mouth. Abby releases a watery chuckle she doubts you hear. She looks down, finally noticing the nail polish stain just under her knee. It's purple. Your favorite color.
The sound of an alarm brings you both back to reality. You give her one last smile, waving as you walk out the doors and into the chilly December air. Her eyes follow you as you cross the street, until you get lost in a large crowd of people.
Watching you walk away this time feels like a final goodbye. You’d always have a place in your heart for Abby, no longer feeling any resentment towards her. She had been too young and selfish to love you the way you deserved. She can see you've found that. And while she's happy for you, she can't help the tears that spill out once she's in the safety of her car.
There's a bittersweet feeling in knowing that the world didn't stop spinning for you the way it did for her the day you walked out of her life.
a/n: back at it again! ik ive said it so many times throughout my blog but im truly thankful for all the likes and reblogs(◞‸◟)♡ this will not be the last of my bunny lee know endeavor but stay tuned for more hybrid, skz, and kpop stories in the meantime! also keep in mind that ive never owned any pets so the animal behavior is based on memory of things ive seen online, dont come for me pls>< anyways, i hope this one lives up to the hype of the first part, enjoy!!! (also i apologize for not posting sooner><)
+ stylized lowercase, missing punctuation (not done on purpose), and minimal revisions
a few days in and the days seemed to get harder and harder for you. not because minho was causing you any trouble, but because the fluttery feeling in your stomach kept growing the more you spent time with him. it was scary how perfect he was in every way.
you were sitting on your couch enjoying a nice hot drink, when the familiar sound of thumping on the wood floor caught your attention. you looked down to find a playful bunny minho. he was scurrying around your feet, even moving his paws to your legs.
"what's wrong?" you set your drink down on the table in front of you.
minho kept on pawing at your legs. you reached down to pick him up, placing him in your lap.
"i can't understand you when you're in the form, you know?"
he looked up at you with a nonchalant expression, you expected nothing out of him. before you knew it, you had a hybrid minho sitting in your lap bridal style, hands wrapped around your neck. the weight and size change startled you, but he loved to tease you and transform whenever he pleased.
"can i please go outside for a bit?" he was really bouncy and sounded out of breath. you had to remind yourself that he was a wild animal. although you took him in to stay in your house, his animal instincts couldn't be suppressed.
"okay, but only for a little-" he cut your sentence off by changing back into a bunny, still knocking you off guard.
he scurried off your lap and towards the back hallway, scratching at the door for you to open it. he looked back at you with those big dark eyes. they always sparkled perfectly in the right lighting. seeing him being all hyper as an animal was truly so endearing. you've always wanted someone like him in your life. the universe definitely planned out your lives to be intertwined.
you rolled your eyes from his fast movements and got up. the second you opened the door wide enough for him to fit, he dashed out onto the grass. it has still been snowy for the past couple of days, but today the grass held a light layer of snow from earlier that day.
he was hopping around the entire yard, sniffing around bushes, chewing on some of the obtainable food he could get his mouth on. you could see the footprints and tracks beginning to circle around the snow. the whole surface of your yard was being fully inspected by him.
you couldn't help but sit down by the steps of your back porch. hugging your knees in admiration, you followed minho's path all throughout the whole time you were out there. you couldn't help but get flustered about the racing thoughts in your mind. something as simple as watching him be comfortable in his environment made you feel at ease.
what you didn't know was minho found himself wanting to be human more for the both of you. it was exhausting for him at times, but he couldn't help but laugh with you, smile with you, feel with you. he never got to experience these moments with anyone before. he wanted each adventure with you to last for hours.
he looked up to find you staring at him, which made his heart race faster than it normally should. draining energy fast, he flopped on his back, waving his paws and feet in the air. getting a chuckle out of you from the distance, he felt satisfied. the sudden urge to dig overwhelmed his thoughts, getting back to his feet and digging straight down from where he was standing.
luckily, you had your mind to distract you from his actions. he started to go feral, getting the dirt and snow all over his face.
drifting away from your daydream, you found your white fluffy bunny turning brown from the dirt and snow.
"minho, no!" you quickly ran over to him, making him realize he was likely in big trouble. thinking two steps ahead, he dove out of your attempt to grab him. shocked and stunned, you still chased after him. he was running steadily back towards the house. the universe was on your side though, as the back door was closed and all minho could do was try to reach up and grab the handle. however, being in his small form, he failed miserably.
"cmon silly," you bent down to grab the squirming animal in your arms, the warmth from your body making him docile and shut down.
once you got to the bathroom upstairs, you gently set minho on the floor. his eyes were slowly closing and he tried his best to keep them open again. before he could fall asleep, he jolted himself awake, which unfortunately turned him into his hybrid form.
"do you want me to take my clothes off so you can bathe me?"
his question made you whip your head around in shock, stuttering nonsense to try and distract yourself from the image of himself being naked in front of you.
"dont be difficult... turn into a bunny so i can wash you quickly."
he let out a small whine, almost like it was his plan all along to get dirty and have this scenario go his way.
you crossed your arms and gave him a dissatisfied look. you weren't really mad at him, you just wanted the day to end quicker so you two could snuggle in bed together.
one big movement turned him small again, he hopped onto your legs, as you had knelt down to get comfortable. you turned on the water in your bathtub and ran some warm water about two or three inches from the bottom. placing him inside the tub, you grabbed a cup to scoop up the water onto his body. the first rinse was quick, he even shook some water off himself like a dog which made you smile.
the scrubbing process also went by fast, working your fingers gently through his coat, the dirt coming off completely. you picked up the cup again, filling it with water. washing the soap away, he shook his body again, trying to dry up as fast as he could.
"calm down minho! ill dry you off in a second."
the water beginning to flow down the drain, you picked up a sopping wet minho from the tub and placed him on the rug next to you. the towel to dry him was hanging on the side of the tub. you laid it flat against your lap, picking him up again and placing him on top of the towel.
you wrapped him up in the towel, trying your best not to cover up his face. you patted and rubbed the cloth into his body, making sure to cover all the spots. his ears, his tail, and his paws all becoming dry and fluffy again.
he hopped off of your lap, turning to his hybrid form. this time you expected something from that big of a leap. you were starting to learn and master his behaviors. he was sat on the floor facing you. for some reason, his hair and ears were still wet in this form. he held one of his ears out, squeezing it to wring out the remaining water off himself. you got to your knees and threw the towel over his head. going a little harder this time, you scrubbed his hair dry to the best of your ability. you noticed him closing his eyes in comfort, especially when you got to his ears.
he looked up at you through his messy hair. he hummed softly, he was so happy you were taking such good care of him. not noticing at all, when you removed the towel his bunny ears went away. he was noticeably more dry and your job was done. you turned around slightly to drape the towel on the tub again.
he let out a cute yawn, so ready to flop into bed and get some sleep. when you turned back around you couldn't help but notice some brown specks on his face. did he have freckles this whole time and you were just too star struck to notice? you reached out to rub his face, making him freeze and have his full semi-conscious attention to your actions. the specks turned to brown streaks against his skin.
"youve been digging so much in the dirt, come here."
he scooted over to you, patiently waiting for anything to happen next. you realized now his nose and cheeks were lightly covered in dirt. you reached over for a new towel and quickly turned the faucet on to run some water on it. swiping the warm cloth on his cheeks, his face became very pink. you didn't know if it was because of the pressure you applied to his face, or if he was actually having some emotional reaction to this.
his gaze was so sensual, almost like his mind had gone to mush and he could only display emotions of pure submission. his thoughts became chaotic, trying to resist the urge to tackle you and have you all to himself.
after a while you could feel your face burning up, scared about any of his next moves or words.
"why are you looking at me like that?" the dirt was almost gone. you moved closer to his face, only inches away in order to get the last bits off.
minho didn't answer you, instead he stared more intensely at you, patiently waiting for you to finish. putting the towel down, you gently rubbed the wetness off his face. even more skin to skin contact was making him lose control. the hue of pink showing from his face becoming almost cartoon like.
"mm tired," his eyes began to droop again. he wanted his last conscious thought to be that he was secure next to you. as dramatic as ever, he laid out his body in your lap, slowly beginning to drift off and finally recharge.
this feeling was starting to become a natural occurrence in your daily lives. whether he was a small bunny, a cute hybrid, or a human who could actually sweep you off your feet, you had him. he felt safe around you and wanted to be near you. using one hand to meet his hand, rubbing it gently to soothe him, you used your other hand to play with his hair. even as a human, he was still soft and cuddly. you bent down to place a small kiss on his head, making him nuzzle himself deeper into you.
Ghost:
“Hey,” You said softly, opening the door to your porch.
Simon doesn’t bat an eye, continuing to sit on your couch and stare at the pine trees in front of you. “Hi, love.”
“What are you doing?” You ask, coming to take a seat next to him. The hot chocolate is warm in your hands, and you take a small sip. Your eyes remain trained on your husband, his cup in hand, as he watches the glittering snowflakes.
“Just watching,” He hums.
You set your cup on the table, leaning your head on his shoulder as he wraps an arm around you. You’re not sure how long he’s been sitting outside, but it’s impossible to tell because he’s as warm as ever. You can feel the heat on him through your puffer jacket as you turn to watch the snowfall. Already, a few inches have covered the grass and your driveway. The snow comes down in big plumps, twirling in the wind as they make landfall.
His hand squeezes your shoulder, rubbing soothing circles as he sips at his drink. “Think we should get married in the winter.”
“Yeah?” You said, glancing at the ring on your finger. You hold up for both of you to admire against the snowy backdrop.
Simon smiles at it, the diamond glinting in the snow. “Yeah. A couple of pine trees, string lights, and plush snow.”
“Sounds cold.”
Your fiancee wraps your hand in his, pressing a kiss to the back. “Sounds bloody perfect,” he corrects. “A nice cabin trip for our honeymoon. Far off in the mountains, away from everyone.”
You can’t deny the temptation of that. Your mind wanders to the idea of you in a white dress, in an even whiter background—bridesmaids in a dark green dress and pinecones as decor.
“As long as there’s a hot tub,” You said.
“I’d make one for you.” A piece of snow lands on your nose, and Simon’s hand comes up to brush it away. His touch was gentle as always like you were made of porcelain. He cups your cheek, pressing a tender kiss to your nose. “I love you.”
The snow falls harder, the wind picking up and blowing it in your direction. But you feel warm inside at his words. “I love you too.”
Gaz:
Your cheeks sting from the cold, little needles pressing their way into the fragile parts of your face. It doesn’t matter though, your determination keeps you hot. You cup your hands tightly, pressing the snow together as you scan your backyard for your opponent.
A plight of snow hits you in the back, making you spin around. You chuck your snowball at your boyfriend, who laughs as he ducks.
Kyle is already scooping up more snow as you huff and waddle through the snow towards him. You scoop up another ball on your way, hiking your feet in and out of the 2 feet of snow.
“Get back here!” You shout at him, tossing the ball at his arm. It explodes in a flurry of white, and he chucks one back at you.
You drop to the snow, already forming more artillery. Meanwhile, Kyle is scooping up huge amounts of snow with his hands and making a wall. You keep scooping up more snow, trudging towards him. You can see his blue puffer in the waves of white, slightly peeking over the fortress he’s built for himself.
Another snowball is hurled at you, leaving flecks of snow in your eyelashes. “Kyle!”
He laughs, hearing the sharp pitching of your voice. “What, babe?”
You push yourself faster through the snow, gripping your snowball until you get the perfect angle and nail him in the back of his head. He gasps, rubbing the ice off of him and spinning to face you.
You give him a friendly wave, holding another snowball in your hand.
“We can talk about this,” He said, holding up both of his hands.
“Really? Should’ve thought about that an hour ago.”
Kyle tilts his head. “Yeah, probably. But—”
He rushes at you through the snow, tackling you into it with a soft “poof” as you sink into it.
You shriek, snow falling into your face as Kyle wraps his hands around your waist. He smiles down at you, lips widening at the scowl on your face. Before you can scorn him again, his lips find yours. They’re ice against yours, but you can’t deny the way you melt into it anyway.
“I’ll make it up to you, babe,” he said, standing up and offering you a hand. He pulls you into his chest, hands flying to your waist. “How does a warm bath sound?”
You shake your head. “It sounds like a good start to an apology.”
Soap:
You watch your boyfriend dart around the yard, shoveling more snow into his ever-growing dome-shaped monstrosity. Johnny’s cheeks are tinted red from the cold, frost nipping at his nose, but he doesn’t care. He’s smoothing out the edges of his soon-to-be igloo, piling more snow on and pressing in.
You’re carrying over the pre-made snow bricks like some animal crossing task as he stacks them on one another. As soon as you’d woken up, Johnny was shoving himself into a snowsuit and rushing for the door. You had gotten a good foot of snow, and he was determined to make a creation.
You suggested a simple snowman, but he denied it.
He pats them down, using nimble fingers to carve out the caking between each brick.
“’s gonna be a real beauty,” He said, standing back to admire his work. “Gonna have tea parties in here, aye?”
You tilt your head. “I don’t know about that. Think it’ll freeze.”
Johnny’s nods. “You’re right. Well, then we can have… a snow cone party.”
You snort, handing him another brick. “What flavor?”
Your boyfriend gives you a devilish grin, once you’ve gotten used to that translates to no good. “Yellow, my favorite.”
“You’re gross,” You scoff, coming to stand next to him as he carves more patterns into your backyard igloo.
Johnny tosses an arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer to let you rest on him. “That’s not what you said last night when I—”
“Okay!” You said loudly, glaring at him. “That’s different.”
“I suppose.” He reaches a hand forward to tweak one of the snow bricks. “Think we should live in the Arctic.”
“Think you’re fucking crazy,” You quip back. “You’re almost frozen solid, babe.” You place a hand on his cheek, rubbing it to try and warm him up. Despite the snow gloves, you could feel the biting sting of the cold on him. Johnny was invincible, as ever, and didn’t seem to notice. Or care.
“This igloo won’t build itself.”
You cup his face, making him face you. “It won’t be built period, if you die of hypothermia.”
“May I remind you, lassie, I’ve been swimming in the Arctic before?”
You roll your eyes. “The igloo will still be here tomorrow. Besides.” You drop your hands to his arms, tracing them up and down. “Got a few ways we could warm up.”
Johnny’s eyes light up. Within seconds, he hauls you over his shoulder, trudging back to the house. “Forget the igloo. I like the sounds of that much more.”
Price:
“Are you sure you don’t want any help?” You ask as your husband clears another line of snow out of your driveway.
John grunts in response, stopping to rest on the handle of his shovel. “Honey, you shouldn’t even be out here in the first place.”
You pout. “But I feel horrible leaving out to shovel our whole driveway.”
John sighs, picking up his shovel and scooping another line. “Don’t. It’s the least I can do after everything you do for me.”
“But it’s cold,” You continue to protest. “And I can help. Then it would get done faster and—”
Your husband gives you a stern look. “No. Call me traditional, but I’d rather you stay warm inside cooking a nice meal than freezing your ass off and the little one.”
Your hand comes to rest at the bulge of your stomach. “I already have cookies in the oven, and we’re fine.”
He gives you that smile with his lips pressed together. “Then I don’t need anything else.”
The snow begins to pick up again, flurries dancing and twirling in the air in huge fluffs. You watch as they stick to the driveway, and make a home in your husband's beard. Your mind drifts to next winter when you’ll have a little girl wrapped in bundles of jackets, marching through the snow.
Your heart clenches at the thought of your husband helping her make snow angels rather than shoveling the driveway. The snow begins to pick up, and you step further into the garage, feeling the familiar twinge of frost on your nose.
You frown as your husband continues to shovel. “My love?” You call out to him.
He stops, turning to face you. Plumes of snowfall in front of your face as you look out to him, lip jutted outward and hand rubbing your growing belly. Well, fuck him. He grabs his shovel, dragging it back to the garage as you smile and press a kiss to his cheek.
“Thank you.”
“I’m going back out there in the morning.” John’s hand falls to your back, a warmth you’ve come to know carrying his kid as he leads you inside.
“And leave me and the bugger all alone in bed?”
John huffs a laugh, closing the door behind the two of you. He wraps both his arms around you, resting them on your stomach and placing his chin on your shoulder. He receives a little kick in response and sighs. “The snow can wait, I suppose.”
Keegan:
Keegan tugs on his mask, tilting his head from side to side. He leaves his snow gloves attached to his hip. “Need any help, baby?”
You huff, fumbling to turn and face him. His eyes crinkle at the sight of you all bundled up in layers of warmth. “I can’t get the zipper.”
He strides forward, tugging the zipper up to its proper place just below your chin. He leans forward to press a chaste kiss through his mask on your lips. He pulls back and grabs your hand, leading you out the door and fastening his gloves on. He yanks the string of your sled, dragging it behind him. A few kids run towards the hill at the edge of your neighborhood, sleds, toboggans, and snowboards with them. They shout excitedly to their friends, waving hands frantically.
“What if we take out a kid?” You asked, feet crunching in the snow.
Keegan shrugs. “They should’ve kept an eye out.”
You swat him on the arm, but neither of you feels a thing beneath all the layers.
He just laughs as you approach the hill. “C’mon. You doubt my steering skills?”
“I doubt your driving skills, in general,” You reply as he secures the sled in place, using a foot to keep it in place.
“In you go.” He holds out a hand, letting you grab it as you sit down in the sled. You place both your feet outside it to let Keegan slide into the space in front of you. He grabs the string, making a slapping motion like he’s Santa with the reindeer, and you roll your eyes. You slip your arms around his middle, leaning your head on his back as you push off the hill.
He cheers like a little kid as you both go flying down the hill, snow caressing your cheeks and splaying everywhere.
“Hold on!” He shouts, suddenly pulling right.
“What?” You shriek.
You jerk to the right suddenly, and the sled topples over, and you both land in the plush snow. The cold envelops you for a second, nudging part of your epidermis and deep into your veins before you push yourself into a sitting position.
Keegan is sitting in front of you, brushing snow off his jacket, and you can see the faint outline of a cheeky grin under his mask. “Whoops. You okay?”
“I’m fine,” you assure him as he helps you up and grabs the sled. He turns to face you, raising his gloved thumb to brush some snow from your face.
“Wanna go again?”
You sigh, lips quirking upward, unable to deny your boyfriend. “Always.”
SEVEN MONTHS | r. itoshi
synopsis: a seven month relationship has it's turbulent moments... author's note: hello! this will be part of a three part series. first part will be rin, second nagi and third Isagi. I'm gonna try and tie them all together like a little bow. anyways enjoy this first part! this was lots of fun to write and ended up a bit longer than I intended but ya know. wc: 5.2k cw: fluff, use of y/n, not proofread, fem reader, angst click here for my masterlist!
-----------------------------------------
In high school you dated this boy. It lasted seven months. Being young makes everything feel so heightened, so… pressing. The love you felt and the hurt towards the end was nothing you’d ever felt before. Like something from the books you’d read or the movies on screen. It felt that important. That serious. Seven months turned you cynical. Because the heart you handed out was taken and never returned. And what’s a body without a heart?
When you graduated high school you went into the world like that. Closed off and careful. You’d been burned once with no way to properly heal. You wouldn’t make that mistake again with someone new.
Rin Itoshi had already ruined that for you.
And when a couple months passed after graduation and snow had started to fall that last thing you expected was Rin on your doorstep. Black hair dusted with snowflakes. It was obvious he’d walked to your house. His cheeks red from the cold, shoes and the cuffs of his pants wet and partially frozen. You had months to sit and stew with your feelings. With the hurt he’d left you. With the good memories that liked to cloud the bad ones. When you met him he was a completely different person from the one you fell in love with to the one you barely knew as he stood on your porch.
“May I please come in?” He asked politely, a slight tremor in his voice. It was obvious he was cold.
“You should’ve called.” You answered coldly. He shivered, from the cold or your tone you weren’t sure.
“Would you have answered?” He asked, a sickeningly hopeful look on his face. But behind that, resignation as you answered the way he expected.
“No.” It was a resolute answer. But you surprised him as you moved to the side, an unspoken invitation to come inside. Your Mom was out for the weekend, she’d be back Monday to see you off to the airport and off to college you’d go.
You pushed the door shut behind him, clipping off the cold air. Rin’s back was to you, broad shoulders fitted with a black suede jacket, snow sprinkling across it. The walk from his house to yours could’ve easily been an hour. And although this was someone you felt strong negative emotions for he was also someone you would’ve given your own jacket to months before. Letting yourself face that cold alone just so he wouldn’t know what it felt like. But this was also someone who just… wouldn’t do the same for you. He might’ve cared in his own way but… you were always going to be second in his mind.
“Go sit by the fireplace, I’ll make some tea.” You said, brushing past him towards the kitchen, not looking back. You fell into a routine as your mind drifted. Traitorous thoughts pouring in because this exact moment had happened before but the circumstances were different.
~
You used to study at a park near your house. Had been going to it for a little bit, at least two or three months since you moved back here with your mom. Your mom worked as a saleswoman so throughout most of the day she was arguing with people over the phone and since your apartment has thin walls you could barely focus. The park was usually very quiet. The occasional few kids playing at the jungle gym or jogger passing by, the gentle pat of their shoes on the pavement. The only thing as punctual as you was the determined boy practicing soccer across the field. He went to school with you but was a grade above you so you didn’t have any classes with him. You’d only see him in passing periods and occasionally out in the courtyard during lunch. But now almost everyday at the park around 5:30. The boy was wildly punctual. You’d be engrossed in your studies and suddenly hear the sound of a cleat smashing a ball into the goal. That’s how you’d know you had about thirty minutes left to study. You didn’t like being out when it got dark so you usually left by 6.
This particular day you were reading homework chapters from a book. You heard the usual cleat smashing the ball and flipped your page. Thirty minutes left. The wind picked up as your papers on the picnic table were carried from the table. You jumped to your feet, grabbing them as they hit the grass. You straightened, your eyes naturally falling across the field. You spotted the boy sat in the grass, wrapping something around his ankle, his face twisted in silent discomfort. You sucked in a breath, placing your papers back on the table sliding your book atop them so they didn’t fly away again. You watched as the boy pushed himself to his feet, he wobbled for a moment then took a step. You could hear the curse fall from his lips across the field as he fell to his knees in pain. You gasped slightly, swallowing nerves as you jogged across the field towards him.
“Hey! Hey are you okay?” You called out to him as you approached from behind. It was a silly question since you’d seen him fall to his knees in pain. The boy with the black hair waved his hand dismissively.
“I’m fine.” His voice was clipped, you didn’t have to be a master in body language to know he was not fine at all. You walked around towards the front of him and met his eyes.
“I don’t think so. Did you hurt your ankle?” You asked, searching his face. You’d never been this close to him, never looked at his face this long. His eyes were sharp, like a cat’s, sharp and blue with long lashes and a downturned mouth. Must’ve been used to frowning.
“No.” He answered shortly, his hand lingered by the wrap on his ankle. For a moment you just stared at him, surprised by his attitude. He was sort of an asshole. Slowly you nodded your head in understanding, you knew when your presence wasn’t wanted.
“Ah, must’ve just imagined you falling to your knees in pain, my mistake.” You answered back just as shortly, walking on past him back towards your picnic table. You got about ten steps away before…
“Wait.” His voice just barely carried over the wind. You turned, his eyes drilled into the grass, not meeting yours. “Could you help me to my car?” He asked but his voice was still a bit sharp, as though it physically pained him to ask for help. You grew up with manners, you knew how to say please and thank you, there was no shame in asking for help. But there was shame in being a dick about it.
“Please.” You said and his eyes cut to yours, the wind blowing his hair slightly, his dark brows furrowed softly.
“What?”
“Ask nicely.” You said evenly. You watched his lips part in surprise. He clearly wasn’t used to someone sticking up to him. You could see it in his face, the annoyance he felt over your two words. You raised your brows expectantly and turned to remind him you could just leave. He raised a hand to you, an outstretched hand.
“Wait,” he said again, swallowing dryly. He sighed, letting his hand fall to the grass. “Could you help me to my car… please?” He pouted. Actually pouted.
“That sounded more painful than your hurt ankle.” You regaled, walking towards him. He raised his hand again and your freezing fingers slid into his warm palm. You gripped him tightly, pulling him with all your might to his feet. The man was a giant, at least two heads taller than you. He leaned heavily against you, his right arm sliding over your shoulders as you wrapped your left arm around his hip, your right hand reaching up and holding his hand by your shoulder. You helped him towards the parking lot, listening to his try to hide the pain he felt. He’d suck in a quiet breath or you’d feel his hand tense.
“You gonna make it?” You asked, turning and craning your neck to meet his eyes. He stared straight.
“Of course.” He said through gritted teeth. It almost made you laugh. This boy was a stubborn creature.
“Lean more on me. I’m here for a reason aren’t I?” You asked, hearing the boy swallow dryly.
“I’ve seen you… before.” Changing the subject? He wasn’t sly.
“I come here to study.” You answered, tightening your hold on his hip.
“Not here. School.” He amended.
“Yeah… yeah I’ve seen you too.” You answer nonchalantly. “You hurt that one girl's feelings the other day.” You felt him stiffen.
There were a few whispers about the boys in your school, you were never one for gossip but you had ears and sometimes that’s all the girls in your grade wanted to talk about. The soccer prodigies, Rin, Isagi and Nagi. There was a girl in your grade that decided she wanted to be different from the other girls that had asked Rin out. She got him flowers and chocolates, and made a big embarrassing show of it. You didn’t know Rin that well but you had a feeling it wouldn’t go well. The girl did it during a passing period so a lot of kids were passing by. Your locker just happened to be in view of the whole thing. You didn’t want to watch but most kinds were blocking your path. You missed the first bit of her speech but caught the obvious question. Will you go out with me? You peered behind a couple students, just barely catching Rin’s response as well as the completely uninterested look he gave her. Who’re you? He had asked. The hall was silent. Forty, no fifty kids all surprised and embarrassed into silence. The tears came first and then the girl was pushing through the laughing crowd. The girl was in your next two periods but she didn’t show up. Rin had completely embarrassed the girl. She didn’t show up the rest of the week.
“What… was I supposed to say?” He asked. You furrowed your brow.
“If you weren’t interested you could’ve been polite about it.”
“I wasn’t interested. And I didn’t know her.” He says as though that gave him reason to embarrass the poor girl. You sighed. This was none of your business, you’d talked to the girl maybe once or twice in passing. You just simply shook your head. Who were you, a girl he didn’t know, to lecture him on turning down another girl he apparently didn’t know.
“She was just hurt, that’s all.” You said dismissively as you crossed over from the grass towards the parking lot, you two paused as you gathered up your book bag and papers, shoving them into your bag. You pulled him towards your car as he slowed, showing some resistance.
“My car’s that way.” He pointed.
“I’m aware.” You continued walking. “But you hurt the foot that you drive with so I’ll give you a ride.”
“I live across town.” He said as though it was too far.
“Then give me gas money.” You groaned, fishing out your keys from your pocket.
“I… I can’t.” He stuttered. He sounded… nervous?
“I’m joking, it’s fine. I have gas.” You informed him as he pulled you both to a stop.
“I can’t go home just yet.” He said quietly. You looked up at him.
“What?”
“I can’t go home just-”
“I know what you said.” You sighed. “What do you mean you can’t go home?”
“I practice until ten, every night. I can’t go home. Or he-” Releasing he might’ve been revealing something too personal Rin stopped talking. You stared up at him, brows curved in confusion.
“You’re hurt, you can’t practice.”
“Please.” His eyes met yours imploringly and for a split second you saw what that girl who made a big show of asking him out saw. A handsome boy, whose eyes weren’t as sharp as you initially thought. You blushed and looked away towards your car.
“Okay…” You trailed off. “Do you have any friends you could go to?” You looked back up at him, his silence was an answer in itself. “My mom usually makes dinner around this time… I guess you could come with me?” You felt like that girl in the hallway suddenly more than ever. You forced yourself to keep your eyes on him, if he showed the slightest bit of discomfort you’d think of something else. But instead… he blushed, looking out towards your car.
“Okay.” He said simply, voice soft and low.
“Okay?” You questioned.
“Okay… please take me home-… with you.” You both blushed this time.
Your mom wasn’t home, you were actually pretty thankful. The last boy you had brought home to her had left your house in tears and stopped speaking to you at school. You were mad at first but later found out he was texting multiple girls while seeing you. You asked your mom then if she had any idea and the older woman had just shrugged her shoulders and claimed, ‘he just seemed weak and not fit for my little girl’. She’d probably saved you from a lot of heartbreak.
You pulled Rin in through the front door and kicked it closed behind you, helping him towards the living room. You helped him to the couch and sighed an exhausted breath when you lost his added weight.
“Here,” You said as you helped him prop his ankle on the coffee table, placing a pillow underneath it so it was elevated. “I’ll get some ice.” You said, pushing to your feet.
“Wait, Y/n?”
“Hm?” You hummed, pausing in the doorway towards the kitchen.
“Uh… thank you… for your help.” He said and once again you watched the poor boy blush. You gave him a soft smile, nodding your head as you disappeared into the kitchen. Moments later you were back by his side, doting on him for reasons you did not want to understand. You help the ice pack on his ankle and bite back a laugh at his red face. What was he so nervous about? He spied that reaction.
“What’s funny?” He asked as you met his eyes, shrugging.
“Nothing.” You answered simply. “Want something to eat?”
“I’m okay.”
“Drink?”
“N-no thank you.”
“I could fetch a blanket, or maybe turn on a movie.”
“Just your company is fine.” He answered before his brain could stop him. You raised a brow at him and watched that pretty face turn even more red.
“Just my company is fine?” You teased.
“Please stop talking.” He sighed, hand over face.
“Since you asked so nicely.” You obliged, leaning back on the couch beside him, balancing the ice pack on his ankle. It was quiet for a moment but surprisingly it wasn’t uncomfortable. “...Why didn’t you wanna go home?” You cautioned, he could very easily shut your question down but… he didn’t.
“My brother’s back from college for a bit.” He answered. You knew his brother, a big shot soccer guy, played for japan.
“Oh?”
“He’s… good at what he does. Too good. He used to practice everyday. From 5:30 to 10 pm.”
“Just like you.” You smiled, rolling your head to face him as he spoke. You thought he was reminiscing but he looked… sad.
“Sae never got hurt. He could practice for hours and not work up a sweat.”
“Yeah… he’s good. I watched a few of his matches with my cousins. They’re big fans.” You said, Rin turned, insistent eyes meeting yours. “What?”
“What do you think?” He asked, his eyes searching your face. You raised your brows.
“About what?”
“Sae.” He said, there was sadness in his eyes. A deepness to his words that you didn’t understand. You pouted slightly in thought.
“Hm… I… I think he’s good? I honestly don’t know too much about him.” You responded. His eyes were expectant of something you were unsure of. “The girls in school like him.”
“Oh.. And you?” He asked a little too quickly to sound natural. Something clicked then. He was… jealous? No… no that couldn’t be it.
“Honestly?” You asked as Rin immediately nodded his head, he really needed to know your answer. “Not a fan of red heads.” You shrugged, not exactly true, you had nothing against them but you couldn’t exactly say that Sae seemed like a stuck up prick. Or maybe you could because the genuine, albeit, small smile that spread across Rin’s face was surprising. He chuckled, it was a warm sound that filled your chest.
“Is that so?” He murmured as you smiled, giggling. “What is your type then?”
“Hm…” You trailed off, pretending to think. “Blondes.” You teased and laughed when Rin’s smile turned into a small pout. “I’m joking… I don’t really have a- mhm!” His lips cut off your sentence, you hadn’t noticed how close you two had drifted as you spoke. You hadn’t thought about what the boy's lips felt like until this very moment as his lips pressed against yours, his hand sliding desperately on your face, thumb stroking your cheek as his hand rested on your jaw. At this very moment there wasn’t much going through your mind. It was confusing but warm, shocking but your insides were twisting and fluttering as the kiss deepened and his hand slid past your face into your hair. Your hand feebly gripping the front of his shirt as the front door cracked open. You jolted back away from Rin, wide eyed and blushing, the same expression reflected on Rin’s face.
“Honey, you home?” Your mom called out from the front entrance.
“Yeah!” You called out shakily, forcing some room between you and Rin. “I’m in the living room… my-- my friend was hurt at the park so he’s here too.”
“He?” Your mom echoed as your heart felt right into your stomach. You pushed to your feet, rushing towards your mom. She gave you a strict look. “You have a boy over? Alone?”
“It’s not… like that. He-- Mom he sprained his ankle.” You explained as your mom raised her brow as if to say ‘so what?’.”Please… please don’t embarrass me. Nothing was happening.” You whispered back imploringly. Your Mom squinted her eyes as she pushed past you to the living room.Sure enough Rin sat there, the blush on his cheeks still apparent. You hoped she wouldn’t notice.
“Sorry, Miss… my brother’s on his way to pick me up. I’ll be out of your hair.” Rin answered. You lips parted in silent protest as your Mom huffed.
“It’s fine. You sure you're okay?” She asked as you breathed out a sigh of relief. Rin nodded his head.
When Sae showed up you helped Rin to the front door, you reached for the handle but Rin barely grabbed your hand, making you give pause.
“I shouldn’t have kissed you… like that. I’m sorry.” He said, eyes on the floor. You pursed your lips, brows furrowing.
“Like that? So you had another way planned?” You asked as his cheeks pinkened in an instant, even his ears turned red.
“What? N-no.” He stuttered. Where was the cool, suave boy that hurt that girl in the hallway over a week ago? He was a blushing stuttering mess around you and had been like that since the parking lot.
“I’m just teasing.” You smiled, but he hadn’t let go of your hand and your mom had gone upstairs for bed and the way he was looking at you right now was the same way he looked at you earlier before planting one on you. You felt your heart speed and wondered if your face was gradually matching the same blush ratio as his. He looked away.
“There’s… a park closer to my house.” He stated.
“Hm?”
“God… this is embarrassing.” He sighed, swallowing and gently biting his bottom lip. “There’s a park closer to my house but I… like the park you go to better.”
“That’s… nice, Rin.” You said confusedly, not following this one bit. Rin sighed frustratedly.
“I like it better because… because I get to see you. Only if it’s for half an hour.” You sucked in a breath.
Oh.
Oh.
He liked seeing you. If only for half an hour. He turned that girl down in the hallway because he liked seeing you. He caught your eyes in the hallway because you caught him staring without even realizing it. He kissed you. This entire time… Rin Itoshi had a fat… major crush on you and you were none the wiser. The poor boy probably wasn’t trying to be an asshole when you offered him help earlier he was probably embarrassed out of his mind, Then when you offered to take him home with you and he blushed like a schoolgirl. And just your company was fine? Yeah… it sure was fine. Probably more than fine.
“Do you understand what I’m saying?” Rin asked and you felt bad because you had let him stew for a few probably long seconds as everything dawned on you.
“You have a crush?”
“I… I--,” He stuttered, obviously embarrassed. “Yeah…” He sighed, resigned to his fate. “I do.”
“Wow. That’s… cute.” You laughed. His eyes snapped to yours, defensiveness in his posture.
“It is?” He questioned.
“Yeah. It’s cute. I mean we… barely know each other. Today was probably the most we’ve spoken in the last three months.”
“I know…” He said, a sickeningly sad look on his handsome face. “I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have kissed you… I shouldn’t have-”
“Hush.” You chirped. “I didn’t say I didn’t like it.” That shut him right up. “I’m just saying… we don’t know each other that well… but I didn’t say it couldn’t change, did I?” You looked up at him and he nodded at your words.
“Practice with me.” He said suddenly.
“What?”
“When my ankle heals, I could teach you some soccer.”
“That’s how you're going to ask me out?” You asked, eyebrows raised in amusement.
“I think you’d be good at it.” He recovers slightly. “If you beat me in a game I’ll take you out.”
“You’ve got to be joking.” You laughed at his audacity. He’s the one who was crushing on you! And he wanted you to play for his affection?
“I am.” He smirked and Christ did that little action make your heart skip a beat.
~
You’d forgotten what it felt like to feel your heart in your throat, to feel it skip a beat. To feel butterflies in your stomach.
“Here,” You handed Rin his tea as he warmed by the fire.
In hindsight seven months wasn’t the longest but he was your first relationship. Your first love. You knew after four months. Knew after he let you beat him in a practice match when you scored the final goal and he rushed to you, sweeping you off your feet and spinning you around until you were dizzy and giggling only sitting you back down to press and even more dizzying kisses to your lips. But after six months his practices were getting longer. Some nights he’d be out there until midnight. You had once found him passed out on the field after his mom had called you and asked you where he was. It scared the shit out of you. That was your first fight. He was consumed, not with soccer, but with being better than his brother. He’d lost sight of the game he loved and had twisted into a game of jealousy. He didn’t like hearing that from you. Didn’t like that you saw right through him. You drove him home that night and he didn’t speak to you for almost an entire day. A rock in the road that seemed insistent. You tried to move past it, you loved him. But when he missed your birthday dinner, where he was supposed to meet your entire family, you decided it was better to let him be. Let him do what he said he really loved to do. But really he was just running himself ragged in the pursuit of bettering himself to challenge his brother. You weren’t really the type to settle for second best and you wouldn’t let something like this grow out of control. You wouldn’t let yourself fall any deeper because then you’d just be lost. A lost fool chasing after another lost fool.
“Thank you.” Rin replied softly, his cold hands crushed yours as you passed the cup to him. He looked… different. Bigger, like he’d somehow grown another inch or so. His hair was a bit longer, his eyes tired as they stared into the fire. You almost reached out to him, almost ran your hand through his hair. It always calmed him before. But that wasn’t your thing anymore. He wasn’t yours to care about. “You leave monday?” He asked as you swallowed, taking a seat a foot or so away from him.
“Yeah. Mom’s dropping me off.”
“That’ll be a mess.” He remarked. You almost laughed. He knew your mom, he knew she’d be a mess the entire drive to the airport. Just like she’d been for the past few months after you graduated. She was proud to say the least.
“Rin,” You sighed. “Why’re you here?”
“I didn’t come to mess things up further, if that’s what you're thinking.” He sipped his tea before setting it down.
“It’s too late for an apology.”
“It’s never too late.” He rejoined but you shook your head.
“In this case it is.” You sighed tiredly. “You can say what you want but… don’t expect anything.”
“I didn’t come here to make myself feel better. I came here for you.” He implored, his tone switching from tired and defeated to beseeching. “I… should’ve never gotten involved with you.”
“That is a horrible fucking apology.”
“Let me finish, Y/n.” He sighed, running a stressed hand through his hair. “I... I knew how insanely driven I was. I knew and I still chased after you. I shouldn’t have dragged you into my mess. I should’ve let you be but instead I was… I was selfish. I always have been when I came to things I wanted. And god… Y/n… I wanted you more than anything else.”
“Rin, come on. Let’s be truthful. You may have wanted me but not more than anything else. Not more than being better than Sae.” You cut in as Rin’s eyes darted away from yours. You thought about the few times you got into it with Rin’s older brother after Sae carelessly put him down. What a wasted effort.
“I entered this competition, called Blue Lock.” Rin said suddenly. You sighed.
“I know. I heard. You mom still texts me.”
“I was top in the competition. I was picked to play against my brother. The games tomorrow.”
“You better not be asking me to come.”
“I dropped out.” You sucked in a breath, your brows immediately going up, your lips parted in surprise.
“You…what? You dropped out?”
“Uh huh.” He confirmed. “I joined Blue Lock to prove I was better than my brother but over time I found myself not really even thinking of him but… of you. I worked harder and harder to punish myself for losing you. I thought if I could make it to the end… be the best striker, win the trophy, that losing you wouldn’t have been for nothing. But I was only at my best when I had you. And I don’t mean my best on the field, I mean my best as a person.” Rin turns to you, he reaches for your hands and you let him take them. “I loved soccer once but I lost it. I never stopped loving you, not even for a second. You were never second, I was just an idiot. I’m not expecting you to forgive me because I don’t deserve it… but I just had to let you know.”
“You just had to let me know.” You echo, sighing into your cup. “Seriously Rin, I despise you.” Rin’s eyes cut to you as you place your cup on the floor. He watches you closely, your words hurt him clearly.
“I know… I’m sorry-”
“Hush.” You say, grabbing the front of his shirt and yanking him against your lips. He gasped against your lips, surprised but soon second hand nature set in and his hands were sliding over your hips and drawing you closer to him. He didn’t need an explanation, he'd settle for anything little scraps you’d give him. “I’m gonna need much more groveling by the way. You broke my heart.”
“I beg on my hands and knees for your forgiveness.” He breathed out against your lips sending shivers down your spine.
“Go on then.” You encouraged and although he hated the idea of unlatching from your kiss he moved to his knees in front of you, gently taking your hand. He pressed a kiss to your knuckles.
“Please… please forgive me for being a massive fucking idiot.” He begged, voice soft like the fire glow that caressed his face. Your stomach twisted, it was a feeling you thought you’d never feel again.
“If you hurt me again that’ll be the last time, Rin.” You caution as Rin swallows, nodding his head. He understood, but there wouldn’t be another time, he wouldn’t squander this chance. “It wouldn’t even be me that you’d have to worry about it’d be-”
“Your mom.” Rin shivers at the thought. You laugh at that and Rin almost sobs, he didn’t think he’d hear that ever again, let alone see that soft loving smile on your face. You stood suddenly, stretching.
“Alright, let’s go.” You said as Rin blinked up at you in surprise.
“What?”
“What? You think I’m just gonna let you throw away all your hard work? Fuck that.” You said, brushing past him as he pushes to his feet.
“Y/n… What’re you-”
“The game. I’m not letting you drop out, Rin.” You said over your shoulder as you marched towards your room to get changed. You had a long drive ahead of you if you were going to get Rin to the stadium before tomorrow. Rin’s spending fingers wrapped around your wrist, stopping you.
“I dropped out, baby, I can’t play.”
“Your team needs you. You can’t let them down.” You said as Rin’s face softened. “Plus,” You pulled him to you. “I wanna see you play.”
“You do?”
“Uh huh.”
“And what if I’m shit? What if we lose?”
“It won’t change a thing, Rin.” You say, bringing him down to meet your lips.
“I love you.” He whispered against your lips as you smiled into the kiss.
“I know. Now get in the damn car."
its the most wonderful time of the year
decorating home/sickfic/civilian!reader || LSS gift for @delphi-shield
Summary: deck the home with warmth and laughter, falalalalalalalala
"Really, Claire. It's fine." You wrap the garland around the porch. "He's busy. I get it."
"Yeah, but it's not really an excuse for it." She mumbles. "I'm sorry, I really did try and convince them."
"It's alright." You sniffle. "I'll just rest up at home. Even if he comes late, it's fine."
"And you're working up a cold! Ugh. Where's the man of the house when he's supposed to be helping you?" She mumbles. "I'd drop by, but Chris is kind of..."
"It's fine." You laugh. "I'm not dying."
"Are you sure? It's so snowy in the neighborhoods. Isn't the snow stacked up already where you are? And you're out on the porch? Ugh, wish there was an HOA service for shoveling snow off the driveways. They only do the streets." She sighs. "Oh, Chris is calling. Call me if you need anything! Happy Holidays!"
"Happy Holidays." You laugh. "See you around."
You sneeze as soon as the call ends, and you glance at the finished porch.
Really, it's a shame Leon isn't coming home until a little bit later. It's cold and lonely alone, but you suppose you knew it was coming when you first got married to him.
The ring makes your ring finger feel extra cold. Stupid metal.
You kick the plastic box back inside and shut the door, glancing one last time at the wall of snow that's built up around your porch. Even if Leon wanted to come home, he'd probably have to stay out. No way he would be able to get through all that snow.
You reach for the mistletoe and get the hook ready, humming slowly to yourself as you twist the hook into the hole as you peel back the tape. A fun little tradition. Most couples walked in together anyway, and on occasion there would be two unfortunate souls. It's not like you were really enforcing it as a rule anyway. You bring a folded chair over to get the final bit of the screw into the door.
The mistletoe glimmers under the houselights, and you step down from the chair after hooking it on.
The front door jingles with the sound of keys, and you spin around with the chair in hand to a sight of a very sweaty Leon and a hole in the snow.
"What— oh, oh my god? What? HELLO? HI?!" You gasp, tossing the chair as your arms find themselves around Leon's neck, and he laughs, squeezing you back. "How did you get here? You're supposed to be back tomorrow? What?!"
Leon's laugh rumbles through his chest to yours, and he rests his cheek in the crook of your shoulder. "Hi sweetheart."
"Oh my god!" You pinch at his cheek, eyes sparkling as he hums. "Did you dig through the snow? Honey, we're snowed in!"
He glances up at the mistletoe and presses a quick kiss to your cheek.
"You were snowed in. Nothing stops a man from getting to his spouse." He hums, raising a brow at the color on your nose. "Have you been sniffling?"
"A little. Just winter chills."
"Oh, sweetheart." He mumbles, hauling you up into his arms as you yell.
"Wait, wait, Leon the chair."
"No. I was about to start on the tree since I finished the porch."
"I'll deal with that later." He hums. "I'll shovel out the driveway too. Did you run up a fever?"
"No, just chills. I'm just congested and sniffly." You hum, and he presses his forehead to yours.
"You're fine. At least you're not burning up. Did you make yourself a cup of tea?"
"Leon, I'll be fine. I just need—"
"I'll get you a cup of tea, light the fireplace, and then you can tell me which ornaments go on the tree." He hums. "I know where the box is. I'm horrible at driving, not cooking."
"I'm shocked you didn't crash the car in the snow."
"Almost did."
"What."
"I couldn't possibly die before I get to see you for Christmas again." He hums.
"And if I get you sick?"
"Then hot tea on the couch for us both with the fireplace and TV on."
"Sounds fun." You sniffle. "Not the part where you get sick, though. I think I'll be fine."
"You want me to get you some ginger?"
You grimace. "...sure."
Leon hands you a glass of tea and bundles you up as he sits on the ground, pulling out ornaments from the box.
"Which ones are you feeling?"
"Shouldn't you shower first?"
"I'm clean, sweetheart. I swear." He hums. "It wasn't a mission this time. Showered at the gym before I came."
You sigh, humming as you press the tea to your lips. "I want the white ornaments."
"A boring white christmas?"
"The house is set up with white and blue this year for some reason. Maybe that's what I'm leaning towards."
"Thoughts on gold?"
"Yes."
"Thoughts on green."
"Too many colors." You hum. "Gold white and blue."
"Sounds good. No silver?"
"No. Need something warm." You hum. "The gold is a nice pop."
"Whatever you say, sweetheart." He hums. "You got a placement you want?"
"Nah. Put em where you think they look good."
Leon hangs the ornaments up, the crystal ones he got for each year on display next to them, and the crystal droplets he had made a while back when he had been bored at home over break. Leon does a lot around the house, and it seems he found joy in making things for fun.
The mug in your hand warms your heart as you watch Leon hang everything up and look back at you for nods of encouragement and hums of approval.
"Look good?"
"Looks wonderful." You hum quietly to yourself. "Nicely done, Leon."
He walks around the couch with the box, not forgetting to lean down and catch a quick kiss before he puts everything back into storage.
"Thank you, sweetheart. Do you want anything for dinner? Did you eat already?"
"I had dinner already." You hum. "Leftovers are in the fridge."
"Alright."
You huddle on the couch and turn the TV on, catching up on a show you had missed out on while decoration, humming as Leon heats the food in the back.
"Food on the couch?"
"As long as you don't stain." You hum, throwing the blanket over his legs as you lean on him. "Anything fun happen at work?"
"Nah. Just the usual. I'm offended the president made me stay behind just to toast me in private."
"It's an honor, honey."
"Yes, but it's the handful of days before Christmas." Leon mumbles. "I'd like to spend time with you for as long as possible before they send me back to the middle of nowhere."
"Fair." You hum.
"Did you open today's advent calendar?"
You blink at him, and he raises a brow back at you.
"Day... twenty five?"
"Merry Christmas, baby." He laughs, kicking off the blanket and putting his plate of food down.
He hands you a box, and you raise a brow. "gold bars."
"Guess again."
"Plane tickets."
"God, how the hell do you even guess shit like that?!"
"Plane tickets?!" You gasp, tearing the envelope open as you scream. "Where the hell are you flying us?"
"To your retirement home. It's bingo time for you, sweetheart."
"Leon Scott Kennedy, if anything, you're the one who'll be stuck in a retirement home." You huff. "You and your broken joints."
"It's a box, sweetheart."
"Is it a plush." You hum, opening the box as you gasp. A weighted pokemon?!"
Leon nods. "Saw you looking at them."
"Did you stalk down my amazon wishlist?"
He averts his eyes, and you laugh.
"I have a gift for you too, honey."
"Is it a new watch?"
"You might want to check the garage." You kick at the blanket and take your mug with you. Leon stops to wrap the blanket around you before tugging you along with him.
"You got me something to crash again?"
"Maybe." You hum. "You'll live. Your health insurance covers everything."
"Aren't you happy one of us risks our life in our day to day to pay little to nothing for insurance?"
"Fuck, yeah." You hit the lights to the garage as Leon opens the door, and he blinks.
"My bike?"
"Not yours, but the same model and everything. I found it while I was—"
Leon wraps his arms around you, forcing the arm with the hot tea to the side as he takes it from you, letting you wrap your arms back around him.
"You like it?"
"I love it, baby." He mumbles. "You wonderful thing. Love you so much."
"Love you too." You hum. "I bought full coverage insurance, so they'll replace it if you crash it again."
"God, I think I must've done something better than save Ashley in a past life or something." He mumbles into your skin as you laugh.
"Maybe you were a survivor of war or something." You hum, running your hand through his hair. "You like it?"
"I love it, sweetheart. Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas, Leon."
Quite Miss Home
Had an idea. Wrote 2.3k words in a couple of hours. Pure fluff based on the James Arthur song. ❤️
“Helloooooo, Chicago!” Eddie yells into the mic, reveling in the roar he gets back from the audience.
It’s been ten years since it all; since the end of the world as he knew it and the beginning of something so much better. Corroded Coffin had taken off quickly, after the “earthquakes;” something about rising from the ashes like a phoenix, if Eddie had to guess, but he’s not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, just enjoy what he’s given, and damn is he enjoying it.
“How are you?” He asks, grinning when the audience cheers again. “Alright, alright. Man, I’ll tell you, it’s fuckin’ awesome being here. But can I tell you a secret?” The audience roars again, and he grins as he takes his guitar off, hoisting it up. “Who’s this?”
“Sweetheart!” The crowd yells back.
“That’s right!” He quietly thanks the stagehand who darts up to grab it from him. “But it’s not my only sweetheart. In fact, my real sweetheart is at home. And this tour is so awesome, but I’m kinda starting to miss my sweetheart.”
“Aww,” the crowd says, and he grins softly at them.
“I know,” he says. “This next song is for my sweetheart. They’re at home because they get migraines, and tours aren’t very conducive to not getting migraines, so we both decided it would be better if they stayed home. So this next song isn’t Corroded Coffin’s normal sound. In fact-” he gestures at the stage behind him- “if you’ll notice, the rest of the boys aren’t up here anymore. This is an Eddie Munson original, and I want to thank them, from the bottom of my heart, for letting me be the dramatic sap I am, and letting me sing this song, on national television, for my sweetheart.” The stagehand comes up again, this time with an acoustic, and again Eddie thanks him. “So, sweetheart,” he says, facing the cameras, “this one’s for you.”
“I'm in the kitchen while you smoke outside. You're careful not to let the smoke inside. I always tell you it's poison, but I know it helps you take the edge off the day.”
Eddie knows exactly where Steve’s gonna be when he gets home from where he works part-time as a bartender. In through the front door, dropping his keys on the kitchen counter, straight through to the porch where Steve’s smoking.
“Y’know those things are poison,” he jokes, stealing it straight from Steve’s mouth and taking a drag before giving it back to him.
“I never want kids,” Steve says in answer. He’s a kindergarten teacher, so he comes home in one of two moods: he has the worst baby fever, or he never wants to see another child again.
“Yeah? What happened today?” Eddie asks, settling in close. He’s hungry, and was vaguely considering a stir fry, but instead he tucks in close as Steve takes another drag, preparing himself.
“Okay, so get this.”
“We get a drink before it's closing time, the one on High Street with the blinking sign. All these memories feel poignant. I won't be there to see the snow melt away.”
“Hey,” Eddie says, seeing someone settle at the bar in his periphery. “What can I get you?”
Then he actually turns to face the person, and-
Oh.
“Whiskey on the rocks,” Steve grins, leaning over the counter. “And maybe… something else? A little later?”
A thrill of heat rushes through Eddie, but he rolls his eyes with a grin and pushes Steve back by a palm to his forehead. “Keep it in your pants,” he admonishes, “I’m on the clock for the next four hours. Someone didn’t tell me they were gonna drop in, and I took my break twenty minutes ago.”
Steve hums. “Y’know, a dull knife could be very dangerous,” he says. “I certainly hope the one you’re using to cut limes is sharp.”
Oh.
Eddie grins, always on board, and leans over the counter. “Steve Harrington,” he purrs, delighting in the flush racing up his cheeks and down his neck. “What exactly are you insinuating?”
Steve sits there for a beat, drains his whiskey, and hops off the stool with a dangerous smirk. “Careful on your way out. It started snowing.”
“Oh, yeah, I been gone on business. I gotta make some money. I really feel the distance.”
“I’m gonna miss you,” Steve murmurs, clinging to Eddie like a koala. They’re still in bed, and Eddie doesn’t have to leave for another five hours. He’s gonna spend all the time he can in bed with Steve.
“I know, baby,” Eddie whispers back. “Tours are so long.”
“A month,” Steve agrees. “And then another three, after Indy.”
“But just think,” Eddie murmurs. “You’re still working, right? And those kids love you, and no matter what you say, I know you love them. And this tour is gonna be really good for us. We could get Wayne into a house, and help Hop with his payments-”
“He won’t accept the help.”
“No, but Joyce will,” Eddie grins. Steve laughs softly into his chest, then sighs and kisses a tattoo.
“I just wish I could be with you. I wish my head worked right.”
“Baby,” Eddie says firmly, “I love you. Regardless of if you can or can’t come with me. If you’re gonna be miserable the entire time—and we both know you would be, don’t even try to deny it—I’d be miserable, too.”
“I know,” Steve sighs.
“But hey. We’ve got time right now. And I’m not letting you move from this very spot until I’m gonna be late.”
Steve chuckles. “I’ll drag you out myself, Eds, much as I don’t want it I know you need to go.”
“I know,” Eddie says softly, turning so they’re both on their sides, facing each other. “But I don’t have to go right now. And I’m gonna spend as much time as I can right now with you.”
“I know.”
“No, baby,” Eddie says, eyes wide, “you don’t get it. I won’t even let you pee alone today.”
“So just like normal, then,” Steve grins.
Eddie squawks.
“And I quite miss home. And I miss you telling me to leave my shoes at the door 'cause you just swept the floor, and the dirt drives you crazy. Yeah, I quite miss home, 'cause it feels like poetry. When the rain falls down on the window while you're in my arms, and we're watching the TV. Yeah, I quite miss home. Yeah, I quite miss home.”
“Hey, Eds,” Steve calls as soon as Eddie steps foot inside. “Shoes off at the door, I just swept and I swear to God, if you track dirt into the house-”
Eddie chuckles, toeing his shoes off before walking further into the house. “I know, baby, it wreaks havoc on your bare feet to feel it. I get a free pass from that ‘cause I wear socks like a normal person.”
“Literally when have you ever been normal,” Steve says, “that’s not normal, you and your fuckin’ ice cube toes in the middle of the goddamn night on my calves-”
Eddie snickers. “‘S not my fault you’re a furnace, babe.”
“I will maintain that it is your fault until we can prove otherwise, actually.”
Eddie is in love with this man. “What the fuck does that mean?” He asks, laughing, wandering down the hallway and into their room, where Steve’s folding laundry. “Fuck, I love you.”
Steve grins and accepts a kiss. “I love you too.”
“I smell you cooking from the living room, and then I tell you that I love your food. I know it doesn't come easy, but you know it reminds me where I'm from.”
“Baby,” Eddie groans when he walks in. “Are you making the pork?”
“I’m trying,” Steve grumbles, frowning at the pan. “‘S not working. It’s not getting crispy like it should.”
Eddie walks closer, wrapping his arms around Steve’s waist and nuzzling the side of his head. “Looks amazing,” he murmurs. “And smells even better.”
Steve sighs. “I just wish it was easier for me.”
“You don’t have to do this, baby.”
“But I know you love it.”
“I mean, yeah. But I love anything you cook, Steve. Or anything you call in. It’s the effort, y’know? Even when you don’t have the energy for anything but calling in pizza.”
Steve smiles. “You’re a sap, y’know that?”
Eddie chuckles, kissing Steve’s neck. “Yeah, I know. I’ve been down bad for you for a while, baby.”
“Yeah?” Steve tilts his head to allow Eddie better access. “How long?”
Eddie hums, moving down Steve’s neck, worrying his collarbone. “Probably since the demobat, Big Boy.”
Steve moans as Eddie sucks a mark high on his neck, just beneath his ear. “Yeah?” He asks, high and breathy.
Eddie turns the heat off. “Yeah.” A little bite to Steve’s earlobe as his hand creeps around to the front of Steve’s jeans. “Lemme show you?”
Steve pants. “Dinner-”
“Can wait,” Eddie growls. “I want you tonight, baby.”
“Whoa, I'm in another city. I got nobody with me. And it just really hit me.”
“Hey, baby,” someone croons. Eddie thinks he recognizes her from the last stop on the tour.
“Um… hi?”
She giggles. “So coy. You don’t have to play like that with me, baby.”
Eddie narrows his eyes. “I’m not your baby.”
“Well, no,” she admits. “But you could be. Or I could be yours, if you’re more into being a Daddy.” She runs teasing fingers up Eddie’s arm.
He jerks his arm away. “Look, I’m sure you’re nice and all, but I’m really not looking-”
“Not yet you’re not,” she says.
“I don’t even know what that means- look, lady, I don’t want anything, okay?”
“Oh, come on, now-”
“I said no,” he says, harsher than he maybe should have, for the way she steps backs in shock. “Please leave,” he continues, gentler. “Or I’ll call security. And I don’t want to have to do that.”
She narrows her eyes at him. “You could’ve had a great lay.”
“I have a great lay,” he shoots back. “And I’m not willing to sacrifice it for a meaningless one-night-stand.” He sighs, runs a hand through his hair. “I’m sure you’re a great lady. But I’ve got my other half at home.”
“Your other half?” Steve interrupts over the phone, delight evident in his voice. “Christ, Eds, you’re a sap, I miss you so fuckin’ much.”
“I know, baby, I miss you too, now I was in the middle of a story.”
“That I quite miss home, and I miss you telling me to leave my shoes at the door 'cause you just swept the floor, and the dirt drives you crazy. Yeah, I quite miss home, 'cause it feels like poetry when the rain falls down on the window, while you're in my arms, and we're watching the TV.”
“Baby,” Eddie yells inside, “It’s raining lynxes and wolves!”
Steve laughs from the laundry room. “Why can’t you just say cats and dogs?”
“Because,” he stresses, “it’s not. It’s raining so hard, babe, it’s perfect couch-cuddling weather, can we watch a movie? Please?”
Steve smiles. “Dinner’s in the oven keeping warm. Labyrinth is in the player already.”
Eddie stills, staring at Steve, for a solid thirty seconds. “Fuck, I love you,” he murmurs. Steve grins and steals a kiss.
“Go get the food,” he says. “I’ll be there in just a minute, just gotta finishing moving this stuff from the washer to the dryer.”
He does, and Steve does, and soon the dirty dishes are abandoned on the coffee table and their feet are tucked up on the couch. Steve’s leaning on Eddie and Eddie’s hand is under his shirt, not for anything suggestive, simply just to feel.
He kisses Steve’s head with a content sigh, and Steve tilts his head back to look at him. “What’s up?”
“Y’know this is one of the things I miss the most when I’m touring?”
Steve smiles. “Just sitting watching a movie?”
“Well, anything with you, actually. But yeah. No expectations, just the movie, and the rain, and just. Us.”
Steve smiles and kisses his jaw. “This is one of the things I miss most when you’re on tour, too.”
“Yeah, I quite miss home. Yeah, I quite miss home. And I quite miss home. Yeah, I miss you telling me to leave my shoes at the door 'cause you just swept the floor and the dirt drives you crazy. Oh, I just miss home, no, no, 'cause it feels like poetry, as the rain falls down on the window while you're in my arms and we're watching the TV. Oh, I miss home, yeah, I quite miss home, no. Oh, I quite miss home. Yeah, yeah, I quite miss home.”
The last strum reverberates through the silent auditorium. Then, an anguished groan. “What the fuck, why are you perfect?”
Eddie laughs along with the rest of the crowd. “That’s quite the compliment, but no, my sweetheart will be the first to tell you I’m anything but perfect.”
Three and a half weeks later, Steve slams into him as he’s walking into the house. “Oh,” he says, delighted. “Hi, baby.”
“Fuck you,” Steve says, “fuck you and your song, I swear to God, Eds-” he tugs on Eddie’s shirt, pulling him away from the door, and Eddie chuckles.
“Baby, my shoes, the floors-”
“Fuck your shoes,” Steve growls. “Fuck the floors. If I’m not naked in bed in the next thirty seconds-”
Eddie grins and picks him up. “Say no more,” he murmurs into Steve’s ear, taking purposeful strides toward the bedroom.
As he kicks the door shut, he has one thought: This is my favorite part of coming home.
Part 2 here
Joel felt his shoulders slump. He wasn’t quite sure why. Maybe it was the alcohol fueling his emotions, but he really wanted to punch the douchebag that was hanging off your face. It was embarrassing to watch, the man was so drunk that he basically just licked your lips. But just as you do, you elegantly gave a small chuckle, reached your hand up to his cheek and rested your forehead in the crook of his nose. Your smile melted into his lips. At the same time across the room, your smile almost took Joel out.
If there wasn’t live music playing and people circling him on the dance floor, you could have heard Joel Miller’s fragile heart crack.
He couldn’t believe you were with such a douchebag. Why should he care? Why should he care?
He shouldn’t. It was a stupid crush. That’s all.
He wasn’t a jealous man.
“You alright?” Tommy asked, his energy taking Joel out of his trance. Joel grunted in response. “You seem like you ‘bout to kill Bradley over there. Blowin’ him up in your mind ‘n stuff.” Tommy chuckled. Joel didn’t say anything in response. “Is it because he’s sucking on Y/N’s face?” Tommy whispered in his ear, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Why don’t you back the fuck up,” Joel spit at him.
Tommy walked backwards holding his hands defensively in the air with a smirk on his face. “Quit bein’ so obvious, big brother. Do something before you loose something.”
Joel turned back to look at you, but the two barstools were now empty. He hated imagining what was currently happening between the two of you. It made him cringe even thinking about it. His face scrunched as he began to feel overwhelmed by the bar scene of the night. He slipped out the front door and on to the porch of the bar.
Fresh snow fell and left a thin sheet of snow on the streets. He wasn’t sure if a storm was coming in, but he could definitely see himself early the next morning helping shoveling the streets.
He grunted as he sat back in one of the old rocking chairs. Cold calloused hands rubbed the sides of his jeans. The light from the windows peered outside, giving small reflections of the windows on the ground. The shadows of couples dancing displaying in front of his eyes made Joel long for something he hadn’t had in over a decade.
His thoughts dissolved him as he finished his drink dreaming of what could have been. He continued to mindlessly watch the reflections of the happy couples dancing.
The dancing seemed to slow suddenly, more violent and quick movements started to show in the reflection. Joel turned and peered in the window to see what was happening.
A large brawl of people seemed to be holding someone back. Mostly the most intimidating looking men and women who were scattered thorough out the bar had come together to hold back a person he couldn’t see. He turned his head and then saw you; Your hand was sprawled over your chest trying to cover the bit of shirt you had left. Tears had stained your cheeks as you watched the scene unfolding. Dina and Maria were at your side trying to keep you modest next to the bar. Joel caught a glimpse of your purple bra just as his attention was thrown back to the middle of the dance floor.
Bradley had let loose from the people holding him back. Joel darted quickly into the bar, almost as fast as Bradley’s hands went for your throat. It wasn’t even a second thought.
Dina let out a loud gasp as Joel’s fist plummeted into Bradley’s face. He brought up his arm for another punch but Bradley had already fallen on the ground from the first one. Joel shook out his fist. He hadn’t punched anyone in a while, Jackson was making him soft.
Joel smirked as he looked down at the pathetic man on the ground. “Better get out of here before I raise hell on ‘ya,” Joel said slowly, kicking him in the side as the man whimpered. “Go on,” he yelled, pointing towards the back door. Bradley scuffled on his bottom, looking up with pure terror in his eyes. Joel would be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy this.
Joel turned his back on Bradley and met eyes with you.
He took off his jacket without a second thought and handed it to you. He gave you an honest smile, trying to make you feel a bit better.
“You alright?” he asked. The rest of the bar was now trying to break the defining silence and go back to the flow of the night, but now the scene was just so awkward. Joel needed to get you out.
“Mhm,” you sniffled, shaking your head. “You wanna get out of here?” he whispered in your ear, helping you zip up his jacket on yourself.
“Mhm,” you repeated yourself, wiping a tear falling from your eye.
“You got it from here Joel?” Dina asked him. “I got her,” Joel said, wrapping his arm loosely around your waist. Dina trusted Joel with you, she knew there’s no way he could ever hurt you.
“You still living on fourth street?” Joel asked, shielding you from the cold. “Yeah but…” you sighed. “I-I don’t want him coming after me. Later tonight, I just know when he sobers up he’s gonna be looking for me.”
Your voice began to shake and Joel could tell you were genuinely scared. “You could stay at my place tonight. I doubt he would be comin’ around there any time soon,”
Your eyes met his as you looked up at him. “Really?” you asked, holding on to his bare arm. “Anything for you, darlin’.”
The snow had began to pick up as he opened his creaky front door.
“Come with me,” Joel said leading you upstairs. You looked at the pictures hanging on his walls going upstairs. You didn’t take Joel for an art guy. Apart from one picture with a much younger version of himself and a young blonde girl in it, it was just old art on his wall that was in desperate need of restoration.
“These yours?” you asked him. “Nah. Was in the house when I got it. Nice to look at sometimes though,”
“And the girl?” you asked.
Joel stopped half way up the stairs.
“Old friend,” he spit out. He took a deep breathe and turned around and extended his hand to you. Gracefully, you took it.
His room was most definitely a mans room. He scrambled over to the bed and pulled up his sheets quickly in an attempt to tidy up. “I-I wasn’t expecting guests,”
You stood and looked around his room as he rummaged through his closet. A pile of unwashed clothes sat in one corner. A few rifles and a bow sat on his dresser. He carefully placed his revolver from his belt next to them.
“Here, which one?” he asked you. He held up a red flannel or a blue tee shirt. “Hmm,” you questioned. “Can I borrow the flannel? S’pose to get cold.” you asked. “Have it if you want. I barely wear it anymore.”
That was a lie. It was his favorite flannel.
“I’ll bring it back, I promise.” you smiled, zipping off his coat. You almost forgot your shirt was torn into basically two strips of fabric lying on your shoulders.
Joel’s eyes shot up to the ceiling as you peeled off what was left of your shirt. “You got a trash bin in here?” you asked, holding the straps of fabric in your hand. “Uh, in the bathroom yeah.” Joel grunted, head still glued to the ceiling as he pointed in the direction of the closed bathroom door.
“Damn shame, I really liked this shirt.” you sighed from the bathroom. His gaze fell to his mirror reflection he could see from the bedroom.
Joel kept telling himself no but he couldn’t resist. Your skin had a few scars like his. It suddenly made his insecurities about those loosen up a bit. You had a tiny blood stain under your lip he didn’t notice until now. His eyes kept moving from your face to your body to the floor, trying to keep his perversions on the low.
“You sure it’s okay if I stay here?” you ask, emerging from the bathroom in his flannel. Something about seeing you in his clothes drove him crazy. This had to be a dream, there was no way this was happening. Y/N L/N standing in front of him in his clothes, tying her hair up asking permission if it’s okay for her to stay the night. Joel had to resist the urge to pinch himself.
“Uh, yeah. Make yourself comfortable. If you need anything, I’ll be downstairs.” he said nervously, dragging himself back in to reality. He was half way down the hallway when your head poked out of the door.
“Whatcha doin’ downstairs tonight?” you curiously asked.
“Sleeping?” Joel asked confused, a slight smirk appearing on his face.
“Oh no please. Take the bed, I-I can’t do that.” you insisted. Joel sighed.
“Well I’m not letting you sleep on my couch.” he bantered, placing his hands on his hips.
“I’ll sleep on the floor. How does that sound? I used to do it all the time as a kid and I-”
“Don’t be ridiculous Y/N. C’mon.” Joel sighed, re entering his room.
He folded back his sheets once again. He prayed there wasn’t any dirty socks or crumbs left in there from late night crackers. (JOEL EATS CRACKERS IN BED???)
The thought of sleeping on the floor left your mind when you saw how comfortable his bed looked. And it was.
Your face plummeted into a pillow, the alcohol in your system making itself present. “It smells like you,” you muttered into the pillow. Joel pretended not to hear that as he pulled the sheets over you.
He grabbed the other pillow and plopped it on the floor.
“Everything smells like you. The shirt, the bed. Smells like man.” you giggled.
His heart was beating so fast in his chest.
“You comfy down there?” you asked, your eyes appearing over the bed’s edge along with two hands adjacent to your head.
“Yup,” Joel sighed, placing his hands behind his head.
“Why don’t you come up here with me? I can’t let you sleep on the floor. I mean, I gotta respect my elders.”
Joel opened one eye at you and scowled. “Joke, joke! I’m only joking. I tell bad jokes when I’m tipsy.”
“Oh your tipsy alright.” he muttered.
“Please?” you whined.
Even as much as Joel wanted to he knew he couldn’t. You were very obviously drunk and was in no way able to give consent to anything. He was a true gentleman, what could he say? Even if it was as innocent as cuddling, he didn’t want sober you to regret anything.
“Not tonight Y/N. Come back sober and we’ll talk.”
“Promise?” you asked, rolling back over in bed. He heard his old frame creek as you did.
“I promise. Get some sleep, pretty girl.”
“He called me pretty girl!” you whispered to yourself a little too loudly.
As Joel drifted off to the sounds of your soft snoring, he thought to himself.
Was Tommy right all along? Did you really have some sort of feeling towards him or were you just acting this way because he brought you home and gave you a place to stay.
I mean, how often did he really interact with you. If it wasn’t a passing Hello when you were with Ellie or you switching off on patrol and asking how his went, there wasn’t much there.
He tried not to let his intrusive thoughts linger.
The one thought that did linger though was that Y/N L/N was asleep in his bed.
~ SWTD: Still Here AU Part 20: ~
Some Odd New Followers:
This is by far the funniest chapter I've written, which says a lot about my humour.
Part 21:
O'Connor stepped outside, coffee in hand, and nearly dropped it at the sight of Simon.
After their reunion, Trots and Simon quickly got back to work in shovelling the snow off the drive. O'Connor's face lit up. It was about time he saw someone from home. What was just a couple of months, felt like years since he saw the man with a lion's mane for hair. 'Simon?'
Simon popped his head up and followed the voice. His face also lit up at the sight of the elderly Irish man. 'O'Connor!' The pair met and hugged at the base of the porch steps, O'Connor balancing his coffee.
'How long have you been here?'
'Only just got 'ere. You're still looking fabulous.'
'Of course.' He made a motion as if he was flicking long hair back. 'Have you seen Gibbo?'
'Gibbo's here?'
'He's in the barn.' O'Connor called over to Trots, who was still hard at work. 'Trots, I'm stealing your man for a bit.' Of course, O'Connor and Gibbo knew Trots was gay. It just wasn't something he wore on his sleeve like Simon.
Trots didn't look up from his work and gave a quick thumbs up over his shoulder. 'Make sure he doesn't get lost.' An inside joke from when Simon, the bus driver, got lost when he had to take an alternative route when the usual roads were closed for matienance. He didn't pay attention to them leaving, but he did overhear O'Connor warning Simon that Gibbo was infected, along with the others.
Being the work horse he was, or slug in this case, Trots didn't know how much time passed. When he focused on his work, nothing else mattered. You had to call for him to snap out of his trance. However, this time, he managed to finish his task. Good timing, too, as Logan opened the garage connected to the house, revealing three cars, with two rumbling to life. Bonnie and Grace were packing their small suitcases with the help of Lily and Moira. Angus and Harris were busy warming up the engines before Angus left to the drivers seat and joined the second car. Trots watched, then turned when he heard Muir and Fiona approach from the other side.
'Are you sure they know what they're doing?' Fiona asked Muir, her eyes quickly glancing to the barn. Or what she could make out of it. Only in broad daylight did she see how big her son was.
'They're no stranger to heavy liftin' ma. We'll be fine. I'll show 'em the ropes.'
'Alright then. We'll all be back after New Years. There's beers and wine in the fridge, but don't go crazy with children around. The car has petrol, but only use for emergencies. Keep out of mine and your pa's room, and the cows have gotten out again. Mind getting them back in before their hooves freeze off?'
'Nae bother ma. We'll be fine. And, we will.' If Muir could salute, he would. He opted to give his mum a light hug with a tendril around her upper back. 'What are ye gonna tell them?'
'Just that you didn't feel like coming.'
'Alright. Drive safe.'
The car with Logan, Bonnie, and Grace inside honked for Fiona. With one final wave, she hopped into the passenger seat. Bonnie and Grace kept waving until the cars turned into the blind spot of the drive. Of course, they wanted to stay with Monster Muir, as they now called him, but this trip had been planned for months, and there was no getting out of it.
Innes stood beside Muir, holding his coat close to his chest as the zip was broken. 'Going to see family?'
'Yeah. We have them in Aberdeenshire. If they don't come here for Christmas, then we go to them for New Years.' Muir clapped two tendrils together. 'Right. Ma and Pa have left us with maintenance duties, Innes, and I know what to give everyone.' Going by the tone of voice and grin, Innes didn't know if he should be worried.
'...And this is Brodie,' O'Connor finished, which was accompanied by a wave from the diver.
'A pleasure to meet you,' Simon said as he stepped closed and offered a hand to shake, that Brodie accepted. 'Must be scary to swim under a rig?'
'Aye, but you get used to it. All depends on the weather, and winter isn't the kindest to us.'
'Well, you're a lot braver than I'll ever be-'
'Okay, everyone!' Muir called out with Innes, grabbing their attention. The infected left the barn, Roy, Trots and Caz left the house, and Brodie and Raffs leaned against the barn door. 'Ma and Pa have left us a list of things to do whilst they're away.' It was easy to forget Muir was a member of the safety protocol, but everyone listened. His tone had become formal, and Rennick remembered why he chose him over Innes. At least he didn't smoke over dangerous equipment or use it as a chair. 'If we get these done now, then we can spend more time with our loved ones when they get here.' That put the crew into high spirits.
'Alright. Caz, Pa said the attic light had a fault if you could start there. Trots and Brodie, I'll show you how to seal the hay correctly. Gibbo and Innes can clean the chicken coups. Addair and Raffs can see to the fencing around the entire farm, and finally, Rennick, can you make sure the cows are rounded up with Roy and O'Connor, please? Buggers made a prison escape this morning.'
'You don't have dogs for that?'
'We don't, and they're for sheep.'
'But you have sheep.'
'We hire for a shepherd for them'
'They still exist?' Rennick was genuinely surprised by that, completely exposing himself as a man who never left Edinburgh unless it involved the rig.
'...Yes.'
'Well,' that was embarrassing. Rennick glanced to Roy and O'Connor. 'Three of us. How hard can it be?'
O'Connor stood at the fencing and watched the duality of man.
Roy lead two cows back to their barn with hay and dead grass he dug up from the inches of snow. Rennick, meanwhile, was chasing after them, hoping they'd listen to him. They obviously thought he was a predator. Why wasn't O'Connor helping? He knew he didn't need to do anything. He was just enjoying this. Plus, the field was massive, and Rennick was becoming more of a little blip with each second. When he was far enough out of ear shot, O'Connor just burst out laughing.
'No. No. No.' Rennick's voice went from desperation to annoyance quickly. He, at first, didn't notice how far he had gone, until the cows made it into another field and began to make their way towards a small country road through a hole in the fence and hedge Addair and Raffs hadn't reached yet. 'Oh. Fine then. Get run over, see if I care!' With a huff, he came to a halt. The cows came to a stop and began to wander onto the road. 'Pricks...'
Rennick turned to walk away, but his attention turned to a robin nestling on the hedge. He paused and locked eyes with it. It didn't fly away. The bird was completely unphased by his appearance and frustration. 'What?' It, or she, didn't reply and continued to stare. 'What's the problem? They'll be turned into mince for Tescos in a year. I'm just giving them a headstart.' The robin opened her wings and flew. But instead of flying away, she landed on the tip of Rennick's nose, making him cross-eyed. She chirped and tilted her head in curiosity. Rennick's body began to relax. Animals had that effect on him. He's always loved them because they were easy to talk to. Never judgemental.
When Roy gave him his food on the rig, if he couldn't stomach it, Rennick would often feed it to the passing seaguls. He missed them. Still, he never expected a robin or any bird to be so comfortable around a giant head attached to a fleshy mass. Must have always nested here all her life. A small chuckle escaped him.
The noise of tires against wet tarmac brought Rennick to his senses. His body tensed, and he, without thinking, because he'd never do this, shot out a flurry of tendrils. They wrapped around the cows, and he quickly pulled all eight of them back. They didn't weigh anything to him. Thankfully, it was only a tractor going no faster than 10 miles per hour. Rennick didn't wait to see if the driver saw him. He marched back with the cows hovering above him. The robin followed and nestled on the crown of his head. He didn't notice a barn cat had been by his side the entire time until he was halfway across the field. The King had found some odd new followers. 'I cannae wait to eat you lot.'
This was a dairy farm.
With a metal screech, Roy closed the pair of cows he caught back into the barn. He hadn't been paying attention, even with O'Connor nearly laughing himself into an early grave, so, he was surprised to see Rennick walking towards the barn, talking to the cows like they were his delinquent teenager children.
'See? If you had just listened to me, then we could have avoided this. Honestly...'
O'Connor couldn't laugh anymore, but the grin on his face showed how easily amused he was by this. He leaned against the fence and snickered into his gloved hands.
'Have fun, Rennick?'
'Shut the fuck up, O'Connor.'
Early Hours In The Morn’
CW: Day 4 of Fluff…vember? ☃️🤝 ITS TIIIIIME lazy, lazy Monday morning with your favourite big boy, pure fluff, basically just König cockwarming you before falling back asleep, sleepy boy… NSFW
Your stir in your sleep, a blazing warmth surrounds you whole. You’re feeling content, you feel safe, could even go as far as to say you were literally anchored. To what, one might ask. If you glanced down to the hairy pythons your partner called arms wrapped tight around your stomach, you might get an idea.
It’s only the fourth of November and König’s already put up Christmas lights on the front porch, the rooftops where he totally didn’t sneak you up for a couple beers, very irresponsible and some places around the house. You couldn’t deny it brought some form of coziness to the house, a pop of colour, even if you missed Halloween already.
The lights outside flashed every now and again, casting a variety of colours onto fresh, glittery snow. You shift under the covers, lidded eyes trail up the plum coloured curtains to the colourful lights outside your window. The sun’s barely peeking through, casting a soft blue hue to the environment. König unfurls his arms around your waist for a moment as you stretched past your head, only to wrap them around again, pulling you flush against his chest. He kisses the nape of your neck, you shiver as you feel unshaven stubble brush against your sensitive skin, his breath hot and unsteady. “Schatzi… need you…” he says, grinding against your backside ever so gently.
He begins bribing coaxing you into slipping your pyjama bottoms off, peppering slow, open-mouthed kisses under your ear, making his way down your body. Another shiver, a deep rumble emits from his chest, his laugh coated with lingering sleep. You could feel him inhale against your neck, he stirs. “Hier dachte ich, du schläfst.”
You grumble something, scooting away. At least, you tried to. He pulls you back in, his laugh hot and breathy. “Mein liebling, don’t go away from me. I need you…” he kisses your skin, each one filled with as much devotion as a prayer. “Bitte… ich brauche dich, mein Herz.” König pulls his cock free, nestling himself between your plush thighs, already at half mast. He palms your asscheek, giving it a good squeeze before sliding his way down your thigh, lifting your leg up for better access. He doesn’t wait for your reply, taking your pliant cooperation as compliance. Just to double check, he props himself on one elbow before gazing down at your seemingly sleeping figure. “You’re not actually asleep, are you?” He asks, a hint of worry etched on his face.
“I’m trying to…” you mumble, rubbing an eye. “Might sleep better with something warm inside.” He chuckles like a giddy kid on Christmas, giving your cheek a little kiss before sliding his cock inside you, your previous exploits from last night helping with the stretch. He groans into your ear, thrusting shallow inside you. You let your head fall back in bliss, mouth slightly parted as he fills you completely. “Mein liebling… du fühlst sehr gut,” he strains, trying not to rock his hips anymore than he has to. You muffle a mewl into your pillow, feeling the tip of his leaky dick nudge against the spongy walls of your pussy. His calloused fingers flex, resisting the urge to squeeze at the pudge of your hips to an uncomfortable degree, so he settles on biting down on your neck. You yelp, he silences you by lapping at the bite mark, muttering soft praise and mixing degrading things in his mother tongue, “Ich werde diese Muschi füllen, meine kleiner schlampe. So oft... wie nötig.”
You couldn’t understand a word even if you tried, your mind reduced to mush, thoughts too blurry to concentrate on anything else but your partner’s warmth. You feel full, content, happy. He knows this, he knows you, König leans down to press a kiss on the corner of your mouth and you grin. Azure eyes meet your hazy gaze, “I love you.” He brushes a strand of hair out of the way, kissing you proper this time. “Und ich liebe dich, meine Seele. Now,” he swallows a lump in his throat, shifting slightly whilst still inside. The bed creaks under the weight, bedsheets rustle as he pulls you down on him. “Schlaf, meine Liebe, schlaf.” You let his incoherent mumbles lull you into a fitful sleep.
With a leg swung lazily over you, and his cock nestled in the warmth of your pussy, König soon falls into a deep sleep that morning. Steady breaths fan over your neck, he always drooled a little whenever he slept so soundly in your presence. You couldn’t fault him, however, you were just glad this battered soldier finally had a sense of peace in your embrace.
~ the care and keeping of plants ~
premise; The N109 Zone has no plants. Except for the ones you brought for Sylus.
warnings; might be OOC, but other than that none this is tooth-rotting fluff.
a/n; been watching a lot of sylus' memories online lately and the part in captivating moment where he talks about the plants in the N109 Zone got to me. have this. promise i will make more not-sylus things eventually, he has me in a fucking chokehold rn and I WANT OUT.
It’s a well-known fact that there are no plants in the N109 Zone. The lack of sunlight makes it impossible for any growth whatsoever. Rain is rare and dirt settles in a thin film over all the fake plants. Most people in the N109 Zone don’t care, the fake plants are enough for them, but not for Sylus.
He has grown used to it, or he pretends he has. The flowers in his sconces wilt in the hallway and a lone dead cactus sits on his desk. Every time he visits you in Linkon, you make sure the two of you walk through the park together. Whether you’re looking at the spring blossoms or resting under a shady maple tree during the summer, pressing fallen leaves into books in the fall or making snow angels in the winter, Sylus always looks happier after he sees you.
It starts small, like most things do. You decide it would be nice if you kept more plants around your apartment for when he comes over. So you buy a couple hanging plants for your porch, then some ivy that creeps up your wall. He spends a few minutes admiring them every time. Once, you “forget” to water them and then you’re watching Sylus, leader of Onychinus and most feared resident of the N109 Zone, tenderly watering the plants in your apartment.
Naturally, you go further. You spend time researching grow lights and plants. Next time you’re at his base, you replace the cactus with a potted pothos plant. You leave a little grow light on a timer next to it. When the pothos doesn’t die, you take it a step further.
While Sylus is sleeping, you enlist the Trouble Twins to help you replace all the dying, wilted flowers in the hallway sconces with cherry caramel phlox. You plant the flowers, the twins position grow lights above the sconces.
Sylus knows, of course, that it’s you doing this for him. He pretends to be none the wiser because it makes you happy. He has scheduled an hour for the care and keeping of his plants. His base has become the most vegetated area in the N109 Zone.
Your magnum opus comes in the form of a commandeered corner of his base for an artificial sunroom. The twins help you set it up. The room is crowded with plants, a small pathway through the jungle snaking into the back corner. It’s brightly lit from all the grow lights hanging from the ceiling. Gentle trickling from the waterfall in the fish tank blankets the space. It’s comfortably warm. A desk sits pushed against the wall under a small potted mango tree, the potted pothos that started it all resting on top. You wanted a sanctuary for him. And you. But mostly him.
(Coincidentally, he gave you a credit card when you first started planning the project. He directed you to use it for “any big purchases.” You think he knows, but you’ve decided not to think about it too hard.)
When you finally show it to him, he’s extremely pleased. He doesn’t say this, but you can tell from the way he moves around the space. The stressed lines of his shoulders seem to soften into smooth curves. His typical threatening aura melts into something more gentle. He takes your hand and pulls you under the mango tree, laying in the dappled artificial sunlight with you on his chest.
“Thank you, sweetheart. It’s perfect.”
SNOWMAN
My works are 14+ ONLY. If you’re under 14 DO NOT interact with me or any of my works
Pairing: Snowman-turned-human!Yunho x fem reader
Word count: 3,640
Note: Bringing you another imagine from Wattpad! I’m gonna be honest, this one is probably my most favorite Christmas imagine T^T I adore the plot and I had so much fun seeing everyone’s reactions when it first came out. For those who haven’t read it, buckle up! You’re in in for a ride!Reminder: This imagine is from Wattpad so there will be no continuations or extra parts
A long, drawn-out sigh left your lips as you stared out the window watching the snow fall to the ground below. You would train your eyes on one snowflake, watching the way it floated downwards, joining the rest of the crystals on the solid, white blanket coating your yard.
Unlike other Christmases, your heart felt very empty this year. You felt something was missing—more like someone.
You work in an art museum and you've always been very involved in your job. You've never been one to worry or stress about settling down or finding someone, as your job keeps you happy. Sure, you've had moments where you feel a little lonely and maybe wish you had someone to spend time with, but you've always been able to brush it off. However, now something is different.
You tried to make plans with some of your coworkers, but they were all busy with their significant others. Your parents had taken a trip, so seeing them was out of the question, and your friends were busy as well with their boyfriends and girlfriends. Again, you've never been one to concern yourself with relationships, but it seems that everywhere you look there are couples. It's almost like the universe is rubbing it in your face.
In an attempt to try and brighten your Christmas, you decided to go outside and indulge in the snowy weather, perhaps even make a snowman. You bundled up tightly in your warmest clothes and stepped outside into the frigid air which immediately began to nip at your nose.
Tugging your scarf up a bit closer to your face, you stepped off your porch and into the thick, white powder coating the ground. Your feet sunk into the snow as you trudged out into the yard, trying to find a place to start building your snowman. Your gaze came to halt just underneath a tree. It was dead, but some of the branches would provide at least a little shade for your snowman.
You began shoveling up snow, pushing it into a round sphere before shaping it and smoothing out the rough and lumpy edges. Once you got a good base going, you began scooping up snow with your hands, adding to that base, building it up higher and higher.
You continued to work on your snowman for an unspecified amount of time. You were so focused on perfecting the snowman, you didn't even keep track of how long you were outside. At some point, you took a moment to step back and see what you had created.
Your brows pulled together as you glanced at the snowman you had sculpted, chuckling bitterly as you realized you had unintentionally made a literal snow man. The icy white snow had been shaped into the silhouette of a man. You had even given him facial features like a nose and the vague shape of lips.
"Wow. I must be really lonely." You remarked.
As if things couldn't get any more miserable, you realized you built your snowman underneath a mistletoe tree. Though, you could've sworn it was just a regular, dead tree, especially since you don't have any mistletoe trees in your yard.
"The universe is just mocking me at this point." You muttered, glancing up at the cluster of mistletoe in the branches above.
Fixing your gaze on the literal snow man in front of you, you let out a scoff.
"'Tis the season." You muttered before leaning in, pressing your lips against the ice cold snow.
When you pulled away, you couldn't help but chuckle dryly, shaking your head at how pitiful you were.
"I really am lonely."
You stepped away from your creation and headed inside to warm your numb hands and feet. You cozied up by the fireplace with a blanket and a cup of hot cocoa. You had even turned on some holiday music to try and get into the Christmas spirit. The tingling in your fingertips subsided as your hands warmed up and you regained feeling in them.
Being near the toasty fire had made you a little drowsy, so you migrated to the couch where you curled up and unknowingly dozed off.
It was early in the morning, your snowman sat in its spot under the tree which previously had clusters of mistletoe on it. Now, those clusters of festive greenery were nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly, a quiet, icy crackling sound could be heard as your snowman began to move. Of course, you were inside snoozing away, so you had no idea.
The once stiff, snowy limbs of the snowman began to move as it unstuck its feet from the white blanket beneath. It stretched its back just slightly before shaking its body, the snow falling off and dropping into a pile on the ground.
You rolled over, letting out a small groan as you came to. You found that you were still on the couch, nearly forgetting that you fell asleep there the previous day.
You pushed yourself into a sitting position, your muscles aching slightly from sleeping on the couch. After allowing yourself to wake up a little, you stood up and shuffled to the kitchen to make yourself a coffee. You blinked lazy as you hovered your finger over the broad selection of Keurig K-cups, deciding which flavor you were in the mood for. After making your selection, you put the little pod into your coffee maker and waited for it to brew.
The delicious smell of coffee quickly filled your kitchen, waking you up a bit. Once your hot beverage was finished, you took your mug full of caffeine and walked to your living room window.
You admired the view of the snowbank outside, watching as a flurry of snow came down, accumulating on the ground. Your eyes drifted over to the tree that sat in your yard, your whole body freezing when you noticed that your snowman was gone. All that was left was a small pile of snow.
Abandoning your coffee, you slipped on some shoes and hurried outside to inspect. In the middle of the shallow pile of snow was what appeared to be footprints, as if someone had been standing in the same spot as your snowman. You then noticed shoe prints in the snow leading away from the spot where your snowman previously stood. They looked fairly fresh so you hoped the culprit was nearby.
As soon as you turned around, you spotted someone standing a few feet away. He was tall with boyish features and stared at you with wide, innocent eyes. He wore a large white sweater, a red scarf, and had small chunks of snow sitting on his shoulders and his head.
"Hi!" He beamed brightly, waving at you.
"You! Did you destroy my snowman?" You asked, pointing to the man.
"No." He shook his head, vigorously. "Don't you recognize me?"
"No."
"You don't know who I am?" He asked, seeming hurt.
You shook your head. "I've never met you in my life."
"I'm Yunho, your snowman."
"My—my what?" You questioned.
"Your snowman. You built me right over there." He pointed.
"Ah. I see what's going on here. You were spying on me. You saw everything that was going on and then you decided to come over and destroy my snowman."
"No, that's not it at all." He shook his head. "I just woke up and the snow was so cold so I shook it off and started walking around looking for you."
Your brows furrowed in bewilderment. His story was so bizarre and nonsensical, and because of it, you were unable to comprehend anything that was happening. You looked over at "Yunho" giving him a once-over. He did kind of favor the snowman you made. The nose and hair was almost a perfect match, and if he really did wake up covered in snow, then that would explain why it's on top of his head and on his shoulders, but there's no way he came to life. Snowmen don't come to life. This isn't some Christmas special, this is real life.
"You put your mouth on me. Right here!" He pointed to his lips. "It felt funny."
Your eyes widened as your cheeks were set aflame.
"I—" You started.
"You're lonely. You said so yourself."
You knew right then that he was telling the truth. You had said that so quietly, there's no way someone spying on you would have heard it.
"You—you're really..." You trailed off. "You're my snowman?"
He nodded with an excited grin.
"I don't understand." You murmured in shock and disbelief.
"It's Christmas magic!" He smiled, throwing his arms up, the snow on his shoulders falling to the ground.
You stared off in the distance trying to grasp the fact that the impossible just happened.
"Can we go inside? It's cold out here." Yunho shivered.
"Yeah." You answered, walking blindly to your house.
"What's your name?" Yunho asked as the two of you went inside.
"Y/n."
"That's a wonderful name." He smiled.
Still in a daze, you grabbed Yunho's face, squishing and pulling on his cheeks to make sure he was real.
"That feels funny." He giggled, his words being distorted as you continued to poke around at his face.
"You're real." You murmured, staring off at nothing in particular.
"Yes, I'm real." Yunho told you. "Can you not see me and hear me?"
You didn't answer.
"Are you alright? You seem to be acting a little weird."
"I just can't believe this is real. I don't—I don't understand."
"I already told you, it's Christmas magic."
"Christmas magic." You scoffed. "Christmas magic."
You paused suddenly, a strange occurrence popping into your mind. Hurrying to the window, you looked outside where the tree you built your snowman under stood. The limbs were barren, bearing no clusters of mistletoe at all. You knew you had no mistletoe trees in your yard and the fact that you clearly saw a bundle of the plant appear on the tree the day before was incomprehensible. You blinked to make sure you were seeing the bare limbs correctly, making sure you weren't delirious.
The only explanation was just as Yunho said—Christmas magic. You had trouble believing it yourself, but it made sense. Come to think of it, you had been feeling lonely and wanted someone to spend the holidays with, and that's exactly what you got.
"What's this?" Yunho's voice broke through your messy thoughts.
You turned to see him looming over your cup of coffee.
"It smells really good." He commented.
"It's coffee." You said, walking over to him.
"Oh. Can I try some?"
"Sure. I'll make another one."
Yunho followed you into the kitchen, trailing behind you like a puppy. He watched your every move as you made coffee, fascinated by the process. The hot beverage was finished in no time, which Yunho was excited about. You handed the mug to him, watching cautiously as he took a sip.
His face twisted in distaste, then switched to an expression of surprise.
"I like that." He grinned. "I wasn't sure at first because it was sweet and a little bitter, but it's really good."
"I'm glad you like it." You told him, taking a sip of your own coffee, which was just barely warm.
You weren't sure what to do with your new houseguest. He had just come to life less than half an hour ago and didn't seem to know too much. I mean, he is... was a snowman, after all, so you didn't expect him to know everything.
"Y/n?" Yunho spoke up.
"Yes?"
"Why are you lonely? Don't you have friends to spend Christmas with?"
"They're all busy with their boyfriends and girlfriends." You answered.
"Oh. I bet you don't have one of those. That's why you're lonely."
"How'd you guess?" You asked sarcastically, your tone emotionless.
"It was easy." He smiled. "But there's no need to feel lonely anymore, though. I can be your boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?" You parroted. "That's not necessary. Plus, we don't really know each other that well."
"I'm a boy and I'm your friend. That should be enough, right?"
"Not exactly. You see, boy friend is a boy who's your friend, exactly as you said. Boyfriend is when you're dating someone. You hold hands, cuddle, kiss, and go on dates." You attempted to explain.
"You kissed me. So that means I'm your boyfriend." He smiled.
"You were just made of snow, I didn't think anything of it."
"But I'm not now." He grinned, cutely.
"Let's just take it one step at a time, okay? Friends first."
"Ah. Okay. Friends first." He nodded.
By some miracle, the universe had sent you someone to keep you company. The circumstances, albeit odd, seemed to produce a great result, one that you would surely take advantage of. So, for now, you decided to teach Yunho about different things and let him have some fun and some new experiences.
A few weeks passed and you found that Yunho enjoyed learning about new things and was eager to try out new stuff. He was very excitable about nearly everything and you found it absolutely endearing. It was strange, and you might sound crazy, but you were actually falling for Yunho. You tried not to think about it too much, or else you'd convince yourself you were crazy.
The two of you were currently sitting on the couch, bundled in a blanket, watching a Christmas movie, per Yunho's request. You made hot cocoa for you both to sip on while you watched the film, along with a bowl of popcorn which was slowly emptying.
Yunho's eyes stayed glued to the screen as the two main characters stood in front of each other. The girl had just realized her feelings for the guy, unbeknownst to her, he was about to confess first.
You watched the scene unfold. The man confessed, the woman accepted his feelings, and, like all romance movies with a happy ending, they kissed. You could see the ending from a mile away, so you weren't too shocked.
Yunho's mouth dropped open when he saw the way the characters kissed.
"Is that how you kiss?" He asked.
"Sometimes." You answered.
"I wanna try that."
Your eyes widened. "What?"
"I wanna try kissing like that."
Your cheeks were set aflame by his request. They became even hotter when he turned towards you, his large puppy-like eyes glimmering with anticipation.
"Can we try it?" He inquired.
"I suppose we can." You answered, hesitantly.
You weren't sure why you were so tentative, it was a win-win situation; Yunho got to experience a real kiss and you got to kiss Yunho, so why did it feel inappropriate?
The dark-haired male leaned forward, his innocent eyes staring straight into yours.
"You have to close you eyes when our lips touch, okay?"
He nodded, hanging on every word.
He then eagerly closed the space between your mouths, his lips crashing onto yours. Your eyelids fluttered shut as you unconsciously leaned into him, the kiss warming you from the inside out.
Yunho was pleasantly surprised by the kiss. It felt a lot different than when you had first kissed him. That first one was strange, and a little tingly. He also couldn't really feel it. This kiss, however, was completely different. He could feel everything. Your lips on his, your hands resting on his shoulders. It was warm and made his stomach do flips. Yunho decided right there that he loved kissing.
When the two of you parted ways you were quiet, feeling a little bit sheepish. Yunho, on the other hand, was smiling like a child on Christmas morning. His face was practically glowing with joy and his already shimmery eyes were brighter than ever.
"Alright. Well, that's that." You murmured.
"I liked that." He grinned.
You weren't sure what to say to that. The situation was awkward—for you anyway.
"Can we do it again?" Yunho asked.
"Maybe some other time." You answered, quietly, not being able to tell him no.
The days until Christmas dwindled down to single digits. Yunho could feel it. He didn't know how, but he knew his time with you was coming to an end. He knew from the day he met you that he would only be able to stay with you until Christmas. At first, he was happy. He thought he would keep you company and help you enjoy the holidays, then disappear. He was okay with that, until recently. He never expected to fall in love with you.
Christmas approached rapidly, sneaking up on you, much like your feelings for Yunho. Every day he seemed to do something that had you absolutely head over heels for him.
You had been debating it for a few days now, and you'd finally come to decision... you were going to tell him how you felt. No backing down, no chickening out. You were going to go through with it.
You had put it off all day. You were going to confess after breakfast, then Yunho wanted to watch a Christmas special on tv. You were going to do it after the movie ended, but Yunho wanted to bake cookies, so you did.
It was now nearing midnight. You stood in your bedroom, taking in a deep breath. Your heart was pounding so fast and so hard that you felt like it was about to burst out of your chest.
"Okay, Y/n. No chickening out."
You stepped into the living room, spotting Yunho standing by the tree. His fingers ghosted over the needles on the artificial evergreen and traced over the glittery ornaments hanging from the branches. He seemed to be distracted by something, but there was no time to worry about that.
"Yunho." You spoke up.
He turned towards you, his face lacking it's usual brilliance.
"I have to tell you something." You approached him in a hurried manner, grasping both his hands.
Yunho locked eyes with yours, waiting to listen to anything you had to say. You opened your mouth to speak, but a slight chilly breeze brushing past your ankles catches your attention, causing you to clamp your mouth shut. You glanced down, a gasp leaving your mouth at the unusual and alarming sight. Yunho's feet were disappearing, turning into little snow flurries that flew around him in a cyclone-like manner.
"What's happening?" You asked, panic rising in your voice.
He gave you a somber smile. "I have to go."
"What do you mean you have to go?"
"You wanted someone to spend the holidays with. You got what you wanted. Now it's time for me to leave."
"But I don't want you to go." You whimpered, tears pricking your eyes.
"I don't want to go either." He spoke shakily, icy crystals falling down his cheeks.
"Yunho, no." You shook your head.
Your brain was a jumbled mess. You had this whole confession thing planned. You knew what you wanted to say, but you couldn't even say it because of how panicked you were. The only thing you could manage was:
"I love you."
Yunho swallowed, more tears welling up in his eyes. The flurries were swirling around his abdomen which was slowly disappearing and turning into snowflakes. As if things couldn't get worse, you no longer felt his hands in yours. When you looked down, his fingers were beginning to vanish in a flurry of white along with his hands. He would be gone soon.
Without thinking, you grabbed his face, pulling him down to your lips.
If Yunho was going to disappear, you wanted to give him one, last kiss—a real kiss that meant something and had true emotions behind it. You clutched the sides of Yunho's face, afraid that if you let go he would disappear. You kept your lips pressed firmly against his in a long, passionate kiss.
You pulled away, your vision blurred by the tears that welled in your eyes. You waited for what seemed like forever for Yunho to turn to snow flurries and disappear forever—but he didn't.
Yunho looked down at his hands and feet which were now back to normal. He held his palms out in front of him, flipping his hands over and clenching them into fists to make sure he was real. A joyous smile broke out onto his features and bubbly giggles escaped him.
"I get to stay."
"You—you get to stay?" You sniffled, quietly.
"Yes!" He nodded.
"How do you know?"
"It must have been the kiss. You confessed and then you kissed me. It was like a seal."
"Sealed with a kiss." You murmured.
"Yes! Exactly."
You collapsed into Yunho's arms, sobbing hysterically, clutching onto him like your life depended on it.
"Hey. It's okay." He cooed, wrapping his arms around you. "Everything is okay."
You lifted your face to look up at him.
"I almost lost you. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me and I nearly lost you."
"But you didn't. You saved me and now I'm here to stay."
You nodded, attempting to pull yourself together. Yunho carefully wiped away your tears, cupping your cheeks in his large hands.
"Now that all that's over, I believe you said you loved me." He grinned cheekily.
"I do."
"I love you too." He smiled softly.
You had to stop yourself from crying again. You were so happy, words couldn't even describe it. Never in a million years would you have thought that the events leading up to right then would have ever occurred, as you always thought it was impossible. But if there's one thing that you've learned, it's that no matter how nonsensical or utterly impossible it may sound, Christmas magic is indeed real.
Alastor x Fem! Reader {soulmates} Part 8
Synopsis: soulmate AU where you have the same mark on your body as your soulmate, and if your soulmate dies, you die too. Alastor needs to make sure that his soulmate is safe so he can continue his reign - whatever that takes. Though it looks like we have a couple secrets of our own.
Previous Part
Part 8: ignited flame
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Weeks went by and winter came.
Husker had noticed my abrupt silence and depressing mood. He tried to make me talk about the fight with Alastor but I didn't want to talk about anything at all.
My meetings with Rosie were just as depressing. They yielded less and less, though she claims it's helping me use more and more of my magic. I noticed the things that took a lot of effort before now took minimal effort. Such as my appearance.
I sat outside on the porch in the rocking chair. I wrapped myself in a heavy blanket and hid my Demon side away. I could see my breath come in clouds. The field was covered in a beautiful, clean white sheet. The trees were bare but the inches of snow on their branches made them look like a winter wonderland.
Husker joined me on the porch. He didn't bring a blanket but I guessed he was using magic to keep himself warm. In fact, I knew he was because I could see a faint glow of red around him. I noticed this glow whenever he used magic.
"It looks nice," he broke the silence.
"Very."
"Have you seen snow much?"
"Not until I was free," I answered. I could remember how confused and amazed I was when I saw my first snow. I was running around trying to catch snowflakes in my palms. I loved watching children run around and make snowmen in the thick snow.
"Alastor hates snow with a burning passion." Husker chuckled when I stared at him wide eyed. "Most Demons do since, you know, we come from hell and it's pretty fucking hot down there."
"Makes sense." I nodded. "It doesn't bother me."
"Do you want to know how to stay warm on your own?"
"No thanks," I declined. "I like it this way."
Silence fell between us for a long while. I eventually grew tired of playing the same bad memories in my head over and over again.
"Where is he now?" I asked.
"In his study. Doing another broadcast."
I unwrapped myself from my blanket and sat on the steps. I put my hand in the snow and left my mark in the white powder. I looked over my shoulder at him. "Maybe...you will teach me?"
He sat beside me and told me how. I tried a few times before I got the hang of it. My body's temperature rose and stayed at the right spot. My hand no longer felt cold but I could still feel the snow.
I grabbed a handful of snow and shoved it in his face. He mewled like an angry cat and crawled away from me, fur sticking up all over his back. I laughed and apologized. Instead of accepting it, he jumped on my back and shoved my face into the snow.
I sent wind behind him and rolled him off. I let my Demon side out as I pounced on him. We wrestled in the cold snow for awhile, unbothered by the frigid temperature thanks to our magic.
I shoved him off with my legs, like he had done to me one time, and threw a snowball at him. He hissed and ran at me on all fours. I followed his lead and started running away on all four. It was surprisingly easier and faster.
He chased me around the house several times before he landed hard on my tail. The cat and mouse switched roles as I chased him in circles. Finally I jumped on his back and we rolled to a stop on our backs. Snow had started to fall and it gently melted on our sweat soaked faces.
My cheeks started to hurt from smiling. I looked over at Husker who was taking deep breaths with his eyes closed.
"Thank you," I said. His eyes popped open and he turned his head towards me.
"What for?"
"For being fun." I turned back to the gray sky. I put my hand up to catch one of the flakes. "I never...I never really knew how to have fun." I brought my claws back in so my hand looked like normal. "I always watched other people having fun and laughing. It always looked so easy. But I...I never really knew how to do that."
"It must've been awful in those rings." Husker's ears flatted sideways a bit. "I never...realized that they raised fighters from when they were just children."
"If you did, would you have stopped them?"
He was quiet for a long while. "Now, of course. But...back then? I don't know. I was so desperate for money that I was willing to do anything. Even...making a deal with another Demon."
"Alastor, right?"
A moment of silence. "Yeah." He pulled himself up to a sitting position. "I don't want you to be afraid to confide in me. I want you to feel like you can say anything. Even if all you do is complain about how shitty Alastor is being." I sat up as well, watching his face intently. "I know he said not to talk about leaving with me, but you can. I won't tell him."
"What was the deal, if I may ask," I prompted gently.
He casted a sideways glance at me, then looked down at his claws. He was quiet for awhile and I didn't push. He was probably dying to tell someone about his unfortunate fate.
"I...I used to be an overlord in Hell. I gambled with souls for awhile then started gambling up here. But...I lost a few hands. And a few more after that. Until I was on my last one. I didn't want to lose my power, my magic, so I gambled against him for more souls. And I lost my soul to him over a bad game."
There was a long moment of silence again. I searched my brain for something to say and came up with, "I'll bet he cheated."
It made Husker chuckle and made me sigh with relief. He stood up and examined his snow-soaked pants. He held out a hand and helped me to my feet. "You're probably right." He smiled. I returned it. "Well, let's go inside and get dry."
"Sounds good." As we walked up to the house, I noticed Alastor watching from the second story window.
****
The house had finally been fully renovated and back to its former glory. We had running water, working electricity, and restored floorboards and walls. Keeping it clean, though, was proving to be a problem. Bugs still found their way into the old home and dust was still an ever present threat to my sinuses. It didn't help that we couldn't open the windows to air out the stuffy house without losing all the heat from the fireplaces.
Speaking of which, something loud tumbled down the fireplace and landed firmly on the hot coals. I barely stepped into the room when Alastor appeared from the shadows and lifted the soot-covered creature. A big, singular red eye snapped open and made direct contact with my two. My hair stood up.
Alastor let go of it and the soot disappeared in a puff of black clouds. Standing up was a small child dressed in pink and white. "Darling," he looked at me, "meet Niffty. A devilish little thing, she is."
"Whoooah, what are you?" The little girl sped over and disappeared behind my back. She touched my tail then clambered onto my back to touch my wings and horns. She was like a bug as she jumped all over me.
"Niffty?" Husker came into the room. She immediately jumped off me and started her assault on him.
"Hey kitty kitty~" She poked her head out from under his hat. He lifted his hat and pulled her off. She landed on her face on the floor and I worried she might start crying. Instead, she yelled, "Yay, pain!" She suddenly started crawling around on all floors and appeared on chairs and shelves. "This place is awfully dirty."
I side-eyed Husker who took a sip of his alcohol with a growl. Alastor put a hand on my shoulder, making me jump. My hair on my neck and arms stood up even more. He said, "I noticed your trouble keeping the house clean. You did all the hard work restoring it so I employed our little darling, Niffty here, to help." I stepped to the side so his hand fell from my shoulder and so I could face him.
"How many people exactly do you have under your service?" I questioned.
"Oh I lost count." He scratched at something on his cane.
"Knife knife, I need a knife, these little roaches aren't going nowhere," Niffty mumbled. I looked at Husker again but he just growled and disappeared back into the kitchen for another drink.
"She's harmless, trust me," Alastor said.
"I don't," I mumbled. I went back to the fireplace and fixed up the hot logs. I didn't need a stoker as I used my magic to protect my hand and move the logs back to their original position.
"Say, darling." Alastor moved to stand behind me. I quickly stood up and faced him with crossed arms. "Why don't you join me in the library? There's some information I'd like to share with you that I think you'd find rather useful."
"What kind of information?"
"Why so skeptical, dear? I'm providing you with information. Surely you're curious." He didn't wait for an answer and crossed the threshold between the sitting room and the library. I noted that he had to duck to avoid hitting the doorframe.
I let out a strained sigh and followed him. The fire in this room was contained in a small cage in the fireplace. It left the room much colder than the others. Most of the warmth came from the open windows that allowed the sun to shine through when it came out from behind the winter clouds.
"Please, get comfortable," he said as he perched himself near the fireplace. I leaned against the large desk adjacent to him, careful not to let my wings knock anything over. He cocked his head a little but said nothing about it. "How much do you know of magic?"
"Obviously not as much as I thought." I wanted to be smart but my words kept coming out soft. I couldn't rid my mind of his terrifying form the night I fought him. My mind told me it was a nightmare but my body remembered it as real as it was when it happened. I didn't like standing this close to him.
"Before you came here, how much did you know?" The sun finally shone through the windows, illuminating the usually dark room. He slithered to the window and sat down in the sun, his hands elegantly settling on his knees. His smile was wide.
"Nothing, really. Only how to use it." I dropped my crossed arms to my lap.
"So you know nothing of the types of magic?"
"I know they exist but I don't know what they are."
He raised his palm as if expecting someone to hand him something. Something did when I saw a book being pulled off the shelf by itself. It floated past me and landed in his claws. He opened it with one hand and the pages flipped on their own. "There are several and they all have their own levels in them as well. Take a look."
He casted the book towards me, letting it plop in my hands and making me almost drop it. I looked down at the open page to see a series of circles and words. There were three groups: elementary magic, existence magic, and advanced magic. They all had little circles underneath them with different symbols.
In Elementary, it had all four elements. In existence, there was Holy, Hell, Cosmo, and Chrono magic. Advanced had a number of different ones form electricity to poison. "What's Cosmo and Chrono?" I asked.
"Cosmo is dealing with space, like the space between Heaven, Hell, and here," he answered, "Chrono is time." He casted the book back to the shelf it had come from. "Those with Slight magic are only able to use Elementary. Demons can use any and all of them, though some like to specialize in certain ones."
"What do you specialize in?"
He laughed, standing up and bouncing his cane off my his claws. "All of them dear. I'm a master of all the magic there is."
"Even Holy magic?"
Static caught his throat. "Only angels use Holy magic. I wouldn't bother twiddling with such a useless form of magic." He spun his cane and jutted it into the ground. "I believe you will be able to master of all them, too."
"Why would you want me to?" I dared.
"Mastering them will be up to you. I'm going to teach you how to control them properly. Last thing I need is for the house to fall apart because you don't know how to manage them." It was more of a demeaning comment than anything. "And we'll start now." The curtains jerked closed and the doors to both the kitchen and sitting room were slammed shut. I was abruptly thrown into pitch blackness save for Alastor's red eyes and yellow teeth. "Conjure light."
I backed into a chair and fell over it. I couldn't see anything except him. Then I couldn't. All the lights went out and I was left alone in the darkness. "I--I don't--I don't know how!"
"You lack imagination." I turned over to see his red eyes again. I jumped to my feet and backed into a table of some kind. What did this library look like? What was I running into? Why couldn't I remember? "You're limited by your own self." His eyes disappeared again.
I looked down at my hands, though I couldn't see them, and conjured fire in my palm. Something hard smacked my wrist and I clasped it to my chest, snuffing out the flame. I couldn't move my fingers.
"I said light. Not fire."
"Fire is a type of light," I hissed into the darkness.
"Conjure pure light. You want to see, don't you?"
I rubbed my sore wrist and opened my other hand. I tried to picture my own hand holding a ball of light. Yet nothing came of it. Why wasn't it working? Why did it never work for me on the first try?
"Your own mind is holding you back." His voice passed behind me. He was circling me. I could hear his boots hitting the floor. I put my tail out behind me and moved around the objects in the room until I was in a corner. I tried to conjure another ball of light, still nothing. "It's simple, really." He appeared in front of me holding a small circle of light, smiling at me. Then he disappeared into the darkness again.
"Simple for you. I'm the one with a curse."
Something shoved me from behind and I landed on my knees. I threw my tail and wings out to keep him away. I heard him walking in circles again.
"A curse is a trick of the mind. You're not actually cursed. Your mind thinks you are." The distortion and radio static of his voice was making me sick to my stomach.
"The fu--the he--what does that even mean?"
Something hard hit the tip of tail. I yelped and drew my tail in. The same thing happened to my wings and I curled in on myself.
"It means you're chaining yourself to the ground and still expecting to fly." He grabbed hold of my wrist and lifted it painfully high until I was on my toes. "Now, conjure light." His claws dug into my skin but I couldn't break free of his hold. I saw a faint glow of green that outlined his hand, arm and the rest of him. I was too busy staring at him to notice the faint glow of light from my palm.
He noticed my stare, somehow, and threw my hand over my head, making me fall backwards on my tailbone. His red eyes and sharp teeth ignited again. I scrambled back as they came closer and closer. My back hit the wall and I threw my hand up in between us. I squeezed my eyes shut and pictured light illuminating him.
When I didn't feel him touch me, I slowly opened my eyes. Alastor was standing with his arms and cane behind his back. He was smiling down at me. The light was coming from my hand, not from him. I had done it. I had conjured light.
"See, darling? It has everything to do with your mind." He pulled me up by my hand as the curtains and doors opened. Husker and Niffty were waiting in the kitchen, Husker with a look of worry on his face. "But perhaps you ought to read more," his hand tightened around mine, "to expand your imagination."
