just read the plot summary for Wrath of the Triple Goddess and. wow this is. painful this just sounds painful to read.

Why is Grover the incompetent inciting incident character? That is not his narrative role ever, really. That's like, the fanon conceptualization of his character where he's reduced down to comedic relief and nothing more. He's mostly exposition and support. Why not have the inciting incident be something about Annabeth's hubris - something that has gotten the gang into situations tons of times before in a way that doesn't put down any of the characters? Heck you could have even tied it into some Sea of Monsters stuff, like Circe having told Annabeth that she'd make a good sorceress. That'd be perfect for how this book literally just exists to be advertising for s2 of PJOTV. Or maybe call-back to Percy's introduction, where he talks about how he doesn't try to cause problems but problems tend to find him. Or use the established personalities of Hecate's animal companions from HoO, since we know they have attitudes. Just what are you even doing here????

Sylus did not know how it came to be, but he wasn't someone to be stumped by the unexpected things of life. No, he would handle this situation like he would any other, with calculated strategy and a solid plan.

The unexpected thing was the chubbiest set of cheeks he has ever seen and the constant poking of his chest while hearing his name being butchered by what looked like a child no older than a year.

How was it possible for his name to have so many renditions? He wasn't annoyed but it left him a bit perplexed finding out that he was a fictional character for a mobile game.

It would seem that his newfound awareness was the result of his Evol, having sensed multiple energies that were so different, popping up at random times, especially at the witching hours.

Just one thought is all it took for his consciousness to be awakened. One voice that captivated his attention.

"Come on hun. Mama, thanks you for her phone."

There was that voice again. A stream of giggles followed "ma-ma. I-yus."

"Yes, baba, that's Sylus, and I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate you poking him so much.

He felt himself being moved, and seconds later, he was greeted by a face that left him speechless. Not many things could catch him off guard. This, however, was an exception.

The person in front of him looked exactly like Lyssa, except lavender eyes were replaced with brown. Her hair was in a style of long braids and face round from motherhood.

Even their voices were similar. "Sorry Sylus, I don't know how she got my phone but I'm sure the constant poking would be annoying."

He observed as she held the hyper toddler in her arms, who just kept laughing. "Sy-Sy!"

"Well, that's a new one. Come on, Mama wants to play her game. How about some Bluey?"

That got the toddler more excited.

A catchy theme song filled the air and she returned.

"Finally. I have half an hour to relax before she comes to get me."

Those bright, round eyes made contact with his. A small smile, formed on her lips.

"Morning, Sylus."

He felt his heartbeat speed up just from two simple words.

There was no way he was going to be stuck in a game, not when there was the existence of a world entirely different from his own.

Not when the woman in front of him made something within him stir. There was a connection between them.

No. He needed to research and find answers. This was far from over. For now, he would learn as much as he can about her.

Tower steam engines

Their liveries indicate the colony they belong to.

Prior to steam locomotion, the underlying concept of rail transport was first utilized by individual towers, then by collaborations.

Individuals set up rails around their colonies for easy transport of material from nearby resources to their hubs. Collaborations establish rail connections between their lands to share goods and communicate. The rail cars are pulled by beasts of burden similar in behavior to homing pigeons. These animals may be delivered to neighboring towers to be riderlessly sent back with goods, as they did pre-rail.

Steam locomotion is a major innovation for towers, occurring centuries post-contact and requiring the collaborative effort of many engineers whose progress needed to be mailed between collaborators.

The hardy locomotives are designed to endure driverlessness, or a specially bred working animal serving as a temporary engineer, and become a beloved symbol of delivering the mail no matter the weather.

These drawings depict them in the BOA setting, where they are anomalously sentient.

Sonic in The Wizard of Oz - (Phantom) Ruby Sneakers

Inspired by @alfairy and @opossum-cult's AU, I give you those Totally-Not-A-Trap shoes that will keep Sonic running for a while.

Why do they have Sonic's palette if they were the Wicked Witch of the East's originally? The Wizard flicking between fifteen different faces, including one that doesn't belong in the time and space since 2006, says don't worry about it. :)

Ooh, I’ve actually been thinking about this for a hot minute, mostly for Kintsugi AU stuff. See, the way I write the Mirror World - as a deeply-imperfect reflection of Popstar and its surrounding universe - events in one dimension don’t always play out exactly the same in the other. Sometimes, they don’t play out at all due to timeline divergences. In the KAU specifically, both Squeak Squad and Mass Attack (as well as a few others games in the series) fall into the latter category, meaning we sadly won’t be seeing Mirror Daroach and his crew committing crimes and stealing treasure chests among the Mirror populous (nor will he get to hear all the juicy gossip about his counterpart and a certain scarred knight).

Not to say they aren’t still out there, though, causing trouble elsewhere in the cosmos.

I imagine the Mirror Squeak Squad still live that criminal life, but - rather than a motley crew of “honorable” thieves - they operate more like an interstellar mafia, with M!Daroach as the Don, M!Spinni, M!Storo, and M!Doc as his consiglieres, and the M!Squeakers as the low-level grunts. Unlike their Popstar counterparts, there is not an ounce of honor in their creed. They take what they want whenever they want with no qualms about morality or fairness, seeking power and control alongside endless riches.

M!Daroach himself has much of the same cool and charismatic demeanor as his counterpart, but a bleaker upbringing seems to have left him colder, crueler, not above using intimidation or even causing harm in pursuit of his goals. Socially, he is well-spoken, charming, and very persuasive. He has his vices and indulges in them liberally, but he keeps his connections strictly business, with the closest ones held at arm’s length, ready to sever at a moment’s notice. He is deeply protective of those he brings into his “family” … so long as they remain loyal to him. Though he keeps his claws clean, he's not afraid to demonstrate just how sharp they are.

In the unlikely event that he did encounter Dark Meta Knight, I imagine he’d view him… neutrally, a right-hand blade to a man in power (not unlike his own boys), with the potential to be either an enemy or an ally. Seeing the knight in battle might have him considering the latter, intrigued by a show of ruthless yet well-directed strength, wondering if there is worth in swaying his loyalty. That said, it would only take a single interaction with Shadow Dedede to dissuade him. He’s toppled many a rival organization in his day, but he’s also smart enough to know when not to make an enemy of someone (especially when they wield power like a starsdamn sledgehammer).

In the even more unlikely event that he learns of Dark’s… situationship with his counterpart… well, first off, he’d have a lot of questions. He'd be way more fascinated by the idea of having a counterpart - something most Mirror denizens of the modern day aren't normally aware of - rather than what he does in his spare time (though he would find it amusing that Daroach's tastes are just as abysmal as his own). Beyond that, though, it's doubtful that he'd get involved any further, the notion of mirror clones and alternate dimensions being a little outside his wheelhouse. He'd much rather be off smuggling goods off-world or threatening small-business owners who can't make their loan payments.

One thing that fascinates me about Boston is that he clearly, oh so clearly, has a lot of pent up resentment towards Mew to the point where he will actively snark about him to their acquaintances (and also in the interview sections) with barely concealed malice and even go so far as to attempt to sabotage his relationship with Top without a second thought....

BUT

When he runs the risk of being discovered by Mew this is his reaction:

The man is terrified, he's more scared than Top, that is genuinely panic and fear in his eyes and it's also the most genuine emotion we as an audience have seen him display in the course of 2 episodes.

Why so scared Boston? What is it about Mew that has you so full of resentment yet so scared to break the bond you have with him?

@respectthepetty did an excellent character analysis of Boston here and very correctly pointed out that Boston sees Mew as both Top and Ray's weaknesses. Judging from this scene though, Mew just might be Boston's weakness too, perhaps for the very reasons he resents him.
