Been seeing a lot of descrying is fake stuff on my timeline and I just think it’s so funny bc imagine faking an ability and accidentally ending up on the council. Like young Terik realizing oh shit I don’t have a talent I’ll be scorned—wait a minute. And he just comes up with a new ability on the spot. Then ppl start coming to him to sense potential and he’s just saying whatever he wants (you better hope you were nice to him in high school because if you weren’t your potential is 0). Then ppl realize his readings aren’t coming true so he covers his ass by being all like “well potential is nothing if it’s not lived up to” and everyone else is just oh yeah that makes sense. Councillor Terik you are bullshitting your way through life and honestly I love that for you

Councillor Terik is Sophie biological father. I mean it makes sense. Plus he’d have the same exact reason Councillor Oralie has for not being able to tell Sophie or anyone for that matter that she’s his child. It’s kind of…boring but it makes so much sense.

Also considering how he acted in Exlie (the book) when he just out-of-the-blue wanted to help Sophie with stuff when Alden’s mind was broken. He even said something along the lines of “I know you look toward Alden to help you with these kinds of things but I want you to know I’m here too” like uhhh suspicious much?? Also that was during the time when Sophie really considered Alden a father figure sooo 👀

Who knows! We’ll have to see! As long as her dad isn’t Elwin I’m happy!!

And I think there’s no better example than in book 3. Councillor Terik says he senses very little potential for danger in a situation in which Fintan literally calls down everblaze and burns down half of Eternalia. He should have been sensing HIGH potential for danger if that was a real ability, but noooo

Descrying and Prime Sources

Starlight would finally give a reason for descrying to be an ability someone can actually develop instead of it just being the never-ending joke that Terik could have just faked it. He probably can read the ratios of sunlight, moonlight, and starlight in a person. If true, he's the second most powerful mental ability beyond Elysian's. I wonder if she is a descryer that can turn people's potential on and off and that's how her ability works.

Give Terik the chance to learn how to turn someone's ability off. Let him freak out like Keefe and show that glorious theme that power is not always good for the user. (It's literally canon that Terik acted like Keefe when he was younger.) I would love to see Terik act like that teenager or at least cringe at something Keefe does with his ability and mention that he did the same exact thing.
