no but genuinely I lose a little more patience for people who won't wear wool, leather, silk, or fur every day that I live in a world where plastic is increasingly the only damn kind of clothing you can find (or the only kind of fabric for sewing, even)
obviously, animal cruelty is horrible. I believe that even industries that rely on the deaths of animals should make their lives as good and their ends as humane as possible. and many of these industries need tighter environmental regulations on their production practices- some of the chemicals involved are highly toxic and ill-controlled at times
but at some point, you have to wake up to the fact that the only alternative we've found to date is destroying our planet
it's all plastic. and plastic is horrible for the world- the environment, humans, and especially animals. how cruelty-free is it to cause mass habitat loss? or climate change that disrupts food sources for those animals on a vast scale? how is that better than the deaths of a relatively small proportion of animals comparatively?
(and don't even start with "but pineapple leather! but cactus leather!" when those are still basically plastic due to heavy plastics use in their production processes. there is currently no non-plastic alternative to most animal-based textile products)
I've always tried to keep in mind that we all have to decide where our line is, that we all consume and there's no way of living in this world that doesn't take something from it. that for me, plastic clothing is to be avoided as much as possible, and for others, animal clothing products are to be avoided as much as possible. that the choice is equally valid
but I'm having a hard time seeing it as valid anymore when it just feels like trying to push the unpleasant part away from yourself so you can pretend your choice has no negative impacts. you're not wearing animal skin (or wool that an animal didn't even die to produce), so surely your way of doing things is better! no animals were harmed in the making of your outfit!
except. they were.
they and all the rest of us.
#fuck plastic#except for medical purposes#textiles#capitalist hellscape#(because companies use 'going cruelty-free' as an excuse to make their entire lineup a cavalcade of plastic)#textile waste#plastic waste#'just wear cotton or linen or hemp!' I mean I do but also#I live in New England#good luck with that when winter comes around#just bought a wool mantle with a fur-trimmed collar (yes it's vintage fur) from a friend and I fully expect to get use out of it soon#I just want to be able to buy Real Clothing (ie Not Plastic)#I can for now but. how much longer will I be able to?

something about logan falling for wade in the most simple, unexpected moments. something about logan falling for wade softly.
they're having lunch in a diner. logan's plate is already empty while wade's still half-full because he can't stop rambling about the superheroes in his world, telling logan about each one of their lores and then he'd stop briefly to swallow or to drink. logan thinks it's adorable, so he keeps listening.
they're grocery shopping. logan pushes the cart, wade's the one putting stuff in it, and he'd point to every neighbor they meet and tell logan the latest gossips about them. logan makes sure to match his pace with wade's.
logan watches as wade and al argue heatedly. but even in the middle of it, wade still walks over and stomps down the warped floorboards in front of the kitchen to make sure al doesn't trip. logan finds himself not minding the thought of kissing wade.
#we've talked about how logan would fall hard and head first for wade#i take that and raise you; logan's falling in the softest way#he's falling through a pool of feathers and cottons blending into the softest wool it feels like he's sinking into the heart of a cloud#deadpool and wolverine#poolverine#wolverine#deadpool

something wool evangelists (of whom i am one) don't talk about is what do folks who are sensitive/allergic to wool do? like, i love wool, in theory, but in practice, it is basically an unwearable fiber and that bums me out :<
like i'm wanting to crochet or sew winter garments with it because it's wool properties are a good fit for my local climate
i'd love to try non-wool fibers like alpaca or angora however they are a lot more expensive usually and i'm not even sure if trying them would solve the itchy skin problem i am having :B
#vasira rambles#i know cotton is a natural fiber but like#does it do like the wool do tho???#idk#i haven't had the resources to experiment yet myself#in terms of making a winter garment using cotton yarn#sighhh#is cotton my only natural fiber choice??? will my sensitivities mean i end up using acrylic yarn???? who's to say

I found a pair of socks I'd never posted! Top sock is the right way in, bottom is the inside. It's a simple slip-stitch pattern - knit a row; knit 3, slip 1, knit 3, slip one etc around; knit two rows. The sole is knit plain. This yarn was a gift from a friend, and it was beautiful to work with. (I'm making something else with it atm, although the colour pooling is. causing some Problems for that shall we say.)
Close-ups of the stitch pattern and the wedge heel/sole:

And here is a picture showing what the pre-emptive darning I looks like on the inside!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/65efec88f53faed8d1f8edc1fc48bb57/d13ba1eec6400516-85/s540x810/22a3c74d14fc7654ae64d639348785c98eab7c60.jpg)
This isn't as thorough of a job as on the slipper socks, because I don't wear ordinary socks around the house so they see the inside of my boots and that's about it. And the inside of my boots will break them, sooner or later; I can't fight it much more than this or they'll become too thick.
...I should make before and after posts of the socks when they've just been knit versus after I've been wearing them for some time. This will also mean exposing my biggest regret, that I used a beautiful skein of unmarked sock yarn alongside a random ball of superwash merino (both charity shop) and they did Not wear the same and the socks look terrible now and I don't think I can reclaim the good stuff if I unravel them bc it wasn't superwash.
#the insides of my boots break everything#commercial cotton or bamboo socks stand up to it more but i like wool lmao#knitblr#knitting#socks#fibre crafts
