Rachel McLish: First Ms. Olympia 💪💪💪
(Image via: reddit.com)
Rachel McLish: Ms. Olympia
🏆 1980 IFBB Ms. Olympia – 1ª classificata
🥈1981 IFBB Ms. Olympia – 2ª classificata
🏆 1982 IFBB Ms. Olympia – 1ª classificata
🥈1984 IFBB Ms. Olympia – 2ª classificata
Rachel McLish bodybuilder

For Artists That Draw Muscular Women
I’d dive deeper into the well in terms of reference material. I love Natasha Aughey, Bakhar Nabieva, and Jade Cargill - but let’s look past the social media darlings for a bit.
I’m an artist, as well, and I personally stick to using bodybuilders when drawing strong women. This is mainly because bodybuilding is all about aesthetics. Making the body look pleasing to the eye. For the best of the best? Look to the winners of the prestigious Ms Olympia contest.
Are you designing action heroines with lean, nimble muscle? Rachel McLish, the first ever Ms Olympia champion, may work wonders.
How about superheroines a la Power Girl and She-Hulk? Try Cory Everson, six-time Ms Olympia champion. She’s known for having a great balance of femininity and muscularity.
Maybe more on the mutated superhuman side? Lenda Murray may help. She took Cory Everson’s symmetrical frame and added raw power to it.
Or maybe you’re throwing caution to the wind and designing brutish, hulking monstresses. Andrea Shaw’s your girl. She’s probably the biggest Ms Olympia champion to date!
Some of you may opt for CrossFit athletes or power lifters instead. That’s fine, too. Again, I just like the aesthetic, comic book proportions of bodybuilders. Your mileage may vary, though.
Either way, I’m happy to see more artists put bigger and stronger women into their work. Keep it coming folks! Cheers! ❤️

On the cover of December's Musclemag International, the popular competitive bodybuilder Bob Paris poses with a very surprised-looking Ms. Olympia, Cory Everson, as the headline bolts out: A WILD NEW YOU! And indeed it is. Inside the pages of the fitness and physique rag, we learn all about Bob's wedding — to "model extraordinaire" Rod Jackson.
Reports "official wedding photographer" Art Zeller: "The couple looked splendid in their white tuxedo jackets, with salmon bow ties and sashes. Leis had been flown in freshly from Hawaii for all members of the wedding party — a touch that not only looked wonderful, but smelled great as well...After the ceremony and formal photos, everyone drove in a caravan of cars to the reception at Shanghai Red's, a restaurant in the Marina with great food, charming decor, and large picture windows looking out at a parade of sailboats on this perfect day in July."
And they bulked up happily ever after...

Female Bodybuilding - The Early Years
Women who lift weights have been around longer than you think. As aggressive physical stress shows, female athletes have been fighting since the 1960s. Part of the early rivalries included the Miss Americana and Miss Physique challenges for female muscle heads. Unfortunately, the first rivalries rose to the challenges of magnificence. At the end of the 1970s, the time had finally come: at the American Women's Sports Championship, women's weights were considered the authentic game it was supposed to be.
Some recognized names for female weightlifting are Laura Combes, Rachel McLish, Kike Elomaa, and Carla Dunlap. On April 8, 1980, the National Physics Committee held its first national challenge for female strength athletes. While Laura saw Combes winning, this opportunity set a trend for the game.
Another rivalry between big names and big women was made possible in 19080. The Miss Olympia challenge was won by another distinctive Scottish woman named Rachel McLish. Ms. Olympia's challenge has become a well-known event. Due to the size of the Miss Olympia challenge and after Rachal McLish received the award at the National Physics Committee championship before 1980, she had the opportunity to make the Scottish younger female game more effective.
Kike Elomaa was another great place to start long periods of female bodybuilding. She dared to win the Pro Women's World Championship in 1981, showing that McLish was the dominant force in women's bodybuilding. Nevertheless, McLish recovered and again won the Pro Women's World Championship in 1982.
Even though McLish never again played in 1983, the game found another big contender for Carla Dunlap. Dunlap's amazing physical stature has raised current expectations for readiness and advancement for weightlifters. There was no doubt that Dunlap had more volume than even McLish or Elomaa. The following year, Cory Everson came on the scene when she won the NPC Nationals and won the challenge against Ms. Olympia in 1984. Everson was the backbone of the women's squad and won six consecutive rivalries against Ms. Olympia.
Laura Combes, Rachel McLish, Kike Elomaa, Carla Dunlap and Cory Everson were the first pioneers in women's weightlifting. These ladies should be proclaimed as motivation and continue to develop the game. Everyone has helped take the game to the next level. As Combes and McLish progressed, Dunlap and Everson introduced new levels of preparation and physical improvement for weightlifters.

“SHE SO TOTALLY DOMINATES… AND IS SO FAR AHEAD OF THE REST OF THE FIELD, SHE IS IN A CLASS OF HER OWN.”
PIC(S) INFO: Cover page resolution at 952×1280 -- Mega spotlight on print coverage of then-four times Ms. Olympia winner, Corinna “Cory” Everson, photo-shoot from the figure competition and/or health/fitness/bodybuilding magazine “Muscle Mag International,” published April 1988. 📸: Steve Douglas.
“The simple truth is, she has the best genetics of any competitor, is a natural super athlete and has a background in athletics no other can lay claim to. That, and as her husband Jeff says, "Cory has always had an insatiable will to triumph.” She is an always has been first and foremost a great athlete.“

Gillian Hodge Magazine Photo
This a magazine clipping of Gillian Hodge. This is a Bob Gardner photograph. She was one of the lesser known female bodybuilders of the 1980s to mid-1990s. Gillian competed from 1985 to 1995. A total of ten years is impressive and she was competing in the era of Cory Everson and Lenda Murray. The Murray era was very tough and in the 1991 Ms,Olympia she did not even place. Her best wins were the Southern States competitions and the North American Championships. Her best body parts was defiantly her legs and biceps. The upper body could have used some size, which to an extent made her lower body overpower the top. Gillian’s abdominals are well sculpted as well as the serratus anterior.

Meet An Da Jeong
After watching a very special 8 minute video of An Da Jeong flex like there’s no tomorrow, I realized this woman is something special.
It’s as if she picked up where 6-time Ms Olympia champion, Cory Everson left off. During Everson’s reign in the 80′s, the emphasis was on flow and symmetry, not bulky muscle. No disrespect to the current champion, Andrea Shaw, but she would have been a freak show back then.
Nowadays, that attention to flow and symmetry is reserved for the Figure girls. It’s sad that the girls are relegated to doing quarter turns until they’re dizzy. These ladies are beasts, and An Da Jeong may be the most beastly of them all.
Every muscle is in concert with each other, but once she starts flexing, you realize she’s on another level. Everson could only dream of being this conditioned.
She’s like a walking muscle growth sequence. She tenses her muscles, and all of a sudden you’ve got veins and striations exploding off of her. Don’t let that pretty doll face fool you - this girl’s the Hulk in disguise.
Check out her video on HerBiceps! https://www.herbiceps.com/videos/74808
