Types of Timber Flooring
Solid hardwood flooring is renowned for its exceptional durability, making it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas in homes or offices. Its timeless aesthetic adds a touch of elegance to any space, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. With proper maintenance, solid hardwood flooring can last for decades, making it a long-term investment in the property.
Engineered timber flooring offers a versatile solution that is well-suited for various environments. It is constructed with multiple layers of wood to enhance its stability and resistance to moisture. This type of flooring provides the beauty of natural wood along with enhanced durability, making it a practical choice for modern spaces.
Popular Timber Species
Spotted Gum is highly sought after for its remarkable strength and unique grain patterns, adding character and charm to any room. Its natural appeal and robust nature make it an excellent option for both residential and commercial settings, providing enduring beauty and reliability.
Blackbutt timber boasts a lighter tone that brightens up interiors while offering exceptional durability. Its resistance to wear and tear makes it particularly suitable for areas with high foot traffic, ensuring longevity without compromising on aesthetics.
Advantages of Timber Flooring
Aesthetic Appeal
Timber flooring offers an unparalleled aesthetic appeal, bringing natural beauty and warmth to any space. The rich textures and earthy tones of timber create a welcoming atmosphere, adding character and charm to both residential and commercial environments. Whether it's the classic elegance of solid hardwood or the versatile allure of engineered timber, the aesthetic versatility of timber flooring makes it a top choice for discerning property owners.
Durability and Longevity
One of the key advantages of timber flooring is its exceptional durability and longevity. When properly maintained, timber flooring can last for generations, making it a long-term investment in the property. It is designed to withstand heavy foot traffic without succumbing to wear and tear, ensuring that it maintains its visual appeal and structural integrity over time.

Installation and Maintenance Tips
Installation Considerations
When it comes to installing timber flooring, professional expertise is essential for ensuring a seamless and long-lasting outcome. Professional installation not only guarantees the proper fitting of the flooring but also contributes to its longevity. Moreover, it is crucial to consider subfloor preparation as an integral part of the installation process. Adequate subfloor preparation ensures that the timber flooring is laid on a stable and even surface, preventing issues such as unevenness or creaking over time.
Maintenance Best Practices
Maintaining the beauty and integrity of timber flooring involves adhering to best practices for cleaning and upkeep. Regular cleaning routines play a vital role in preserving the natural allure of the flooring while safeguarding its structural integrity. Additionally, it is important to avoid excessive moisture contact with the timber flooring, as prolonged exposure can lead to warping or damage. Using protective pads on furniture is also recommended to prevent scratches and dents, prolonging the lifespan of the timber flooring.
By following these installation considerations and maintenance best practices, property owners can ensure that their timber flooring remains visually appealing and structurally sound for years to come.
Office Flooring Solutions
When it comes to office Floor Sanding Solutions, timber flooring offers a professional and sophisticated look that elevates the aesthetic appeal of commercial spaces. The natural warmth and charm of timber create a welcoming environment for employees and clients, contributing to a positive and productive atmosphere within the office.
In addition to its visual appeal, timber flooring also brings notable health and safety benefits to office settings. It contributes to better indoor air quality by minimizing the accumulation of allergens and dust, creating a healthier environment for everyone in the workplace. Furthermore, timber flooring is easy to clean, making maintenance hassle-free and ensuring that the office space remains hygienic at all times.
The installation of timber flooring as a commercial flooring option not only enhances the overall appearance of the business premises but also prioritizes the well-being and comfort of those who frequent the office. With its seamless blend of professional appeal and health-conscious features, timber flooring stands out as an ideal choice for creating an inviting and conducive workspace for any business.

Soundproofing Your Home
Soundproofing your home is a topic that is becoming more popular.
As homes are built closer together, most new homes have lighter building materials like stud walls with gypsum board.
Noise levels can get loud.
People want to enjoy their homes without causing friction with neighbours due to noise complaints.
Noisy neighbours are the number one reason why people considering soundproofing.
Reasons Why People Need To Have Soundproofing
    Theatre rooms
    Home office
    bedrooms of young children
    Traffic noise or train track
    Under an aircraft flight path
    Shift workers
    Musicians
A well-soundproofed home will provide a more harmonious lifestyle and increase your home’s value when you want to sell it.
It will also be more energy-efficient to heat and cool.
What Soundproofing Does:
Enjoy your music or movies at any time without disturbing others.
You can work from home without disturbing the family or having general household noise interfering with your work on a conference call or webinar.
Get It Done During The Home Build
The simplest and cost-effective way to soundproof a room is to do it during the construction of your home or extension.
When you build your home or have a renovation done – Make sure you have better soundproofing methods and materials used.
The most common are acoustic plaster, soundproofing and mass elastic vinyl.
Suppose you need a soundproofed area, such as a recording studio. In that case, this will require additional planning as it is the equivalent of building a room within a room.
What is noise?
You need to understand that noise is generated by sound waves, which can be described as energy waves. That sound can be divided into two noise categories:
 Airborne Or Impact Sound.
Airborne sound is just that: sound that is transmitted through the air.
Examples include people talking, television noise, traffic noise, appliances, music or dogs barking.
Impact sound is caused by objects hitting a surface in the home.
Closing doors, furniture being moved, and footsteps cause this on hard floors.
To stop or reduce sound transmission, we need to control the sound waves or try to minimise the energy/power of the waves.
The Basic Overview Of Soundproofing
First, inspect the walls for gaps or weak spots and use an acoustic sealant to seal any cracks. Treat soundproofing like waterproofing, it is only as good as the weakest point.
The example we like to give is when you roll down your car window and hear a loud noise.
If you roll it back up and leave a small gap, the noise is still loud, but if you roll it up, it disappears).
Improve the mass of the wall by adding high mass/density products.
Improve the wall’s ability to absorb sound energy and vibration. Without this improvement, the added mass will have little effect.
Add acoustical insulation between wood battens to eliminate sound reverberation.
Use A Variety Of High Mass Materials.
Different materials are better suited for different sound frequencies, so a combination of high mass materials will perform better than using multiple materials of the same type.
Blocking: Try to prevent sound waves from entering an area. This can be done by double glazing windows, sealing cracks and holes in walls, and using door sweeps to prevent sound from penetrating under a door and around window frames.
Absorbing and Damping – These two terms are very similar. Absorb means it “soaks up” the sound vibrations – carpet, cork flooring, acoustic foam or ceiling insulation.
Dampening stops the energy wave by not vibrating and allowing it to go further. A solid wood door will work better than a particleboard door.
Decoupling: Separating the two sides of a structure so that they do not touch and the vibrations do not pass through to each other. It is very effective to isolate sound on one side of a wall and prevent sound from passing through to the other side.
What rooms need to be soundproofed?
Any room in your home that you think will benefit from it.
If you are building or renovating, you should have the foresight to install additional soundproofing products. It brings more comfort to any home when outside noise is blocked and the house has been acoustically treated.
Soundproofing A Recording Studio
If you want to build a professional recording studio or sound booth, you will build a “room within a room.”
The interior room has no physical connection to the external, and that’s what decoupling refers to. It prevents sound vibrations from passing through the walls and creating a sound interruption.
Both rooms use dense materials such as acoustic plasterboard, have acoustic insulation or foam between the walls. The room is sealed with acoustic sealant to ensure there are no gaps around the door frame to stop all unwanted noise and outside sounds.
Soundproofing a home theatre room
Soundproofing a home theatre room effectively can be done with acoustic gypsum board and noise resilient mounting clips.
This will create a sound barrier between the gypsum board and the stud framing.
Add extra sound absorption with suitable, high-quality carpets and upholstered furniture to reduce echos.
  Soundproofing A Home Office:
When working from home, the last thing you need is unnecessary noise distracting you.
Loud neighbours, noisy kids, people mowing their lawns, or a barking dog can be a significant distraction and negatively impact your productivity.
For a home office, you can follow the same steps as for a home theatre above.
Soundproofing  Bedrooms
A bedroom is a space where minimal noise is a must.
Minimal noise or disturbances are crucial to a good night’s sleep, and minimising outside noise will improve your sleep.
To soundproof bedrooms, you typically only need a medium-density acoustic insulation mat in the interior walls and a higher-density acoustic insulation mat in the exterior walls.
Use a draft stopper or door sweep on the bedroom door.
What about an existing room?
Typical gypsum board walls are not suitable for sound reduction because they are thin. The area between the boards and the wall cavity creates an echo chamber, allowing sound waves to bounce in the gap and pass through the wall studs and walls.
Depending on the level of soundproofing desired and the budget available, we recommend the following steps.
Option 1
To reduce sound in a room or area, – Think open plan. Use soft furnishings such as upholstered furniture, rugs, carpets and blackout curtains or drapes. All of this will help reduce the transmission of sound waves.
Floor coverings absorb sound, and curtains help block sound coming through windows.
Option 2
If this is not sufficient, you can add sound-absorbing ceiling tiles and exterior sound-absorbing acoustic tiles to the walls.
If you are considering carpeting, you can also place an acoustic underlayment on the floor. The extra step with the carpets will help if you live in an apartment with neighbours below you.
Option 3
If the noise comes from outside, such as living near a busy street or near noisy neighbours.
You’ll need to opt for a change in your walls and doors.
Add a layer of acoustic plasterboard over an existing wall and replace hollow doors with a solid-core door.
You should also add a draft stopper to prevent noise from passing under the door.
Option 4
The next step is to remove the current gypsum board, fill the wall cavity with acoustic wall insulation, and then re-plaster it with an acoustic gypsum board.
Option 5
Finally, suppose the highest level is needed. In that case, you will need to build an acoustic wall as described in Building a Recording Studio.
You will need a contractor to build a new wall frame that detached from the existing walls.
The wall cavities will be filled with the proper insulation and then covered with an acoustic gypsum board.
Mass elastic vinyl can also be used.
Remember that you will also need to line the floors with good quality carpeting and an acoustic underlayment.

Step Lightly: How Cork Flooring Enhances Your Home's Sustainability
In recent years, there has been a significant surge in the interest and demand for sustainable home design. Homeowners and businesses alike are increasingly seeking environmentally friendly options to reduce their carbon footprint and create a healthier living and working environment.
As a result, sustainable building materials, energy-efficient appliances, and eco-friendly design elements have become a top priority for those looking to renovate or build new spaces. In this blog post, we will explore the eco-friendly and sustainable benefits of Cork Flooring in Brisbane, shedding light on its unique qualities and its contribution to a greener and healthier living space.
Section 1: Understanding Cork Flooring
Cork flooring is a natural and sustainable flooring option that is derived from the bark of cork oak trees. The bark is carefully harvested without harming the tree, making cork a renewable and eco-friendly material. Its composition includes millions of tiny air cells, which not only give it a unique and attractive appearance but also provide remarkable insulation properties. This makes cork flooring an excellent choice for maintaining a comfortable indoor environment while reducing energy consumption.
One of the key benefits of cork flooring is its positive impact on indoor air quality. It is naturally resistant to mold, mildew, and pests, making it an ideal choice for those with allergies or respiratory sensitivities. Additionally, cork is a low-emission material, meaning it does not release harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air, contributing to a healthier living space and a reduced environmental impact.
Section 2: Advantages for Homeowners
The durability and longevity of cork flooring are remarkable, often outlasting many traditional flooring options. Its natural resilience to pressure and impact makes it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas in homes and commercial spaces. Furthermore, cork's unique cellular structure provides excellent insulation, helping to maintain a comfortable temperature indoors and reducing the need for excessive heating or cooling.
In terms of maintenance, cork flooring is relatively easy to care for. Regular sweeping and occasional damp mopping are usually sufficient to keep it clean and well-maintained. Additionally, the natural elasticity of the cork allows it to recover from minor dents and divots, preserving its pristine appearance for years to come.
Tumblr media
Section 3: Design and Style Options
Cork flooring offers a wide range of design options, including various colors, textures, and patterns to suit different aesthetic preferences. Whether you prefer a modern, minimalistic look or a more classic and timeless style, there is a Timber Flooring in Brisbane option to complement every interior design scheme. Its versatility makes it a popular choice for living spaces, kitchens, bedrooms, and even commercial settings.
For homeowners looking to incorporate cork flooring into their design, it's essential to consider the compatibility with different rooms and the overall design theme. With the right guidance and inspiration, cork flooring can become a standout feature that enhances the visual appeal and sustainability of any space.
Section 4: Installation and Cost Considerations
When considering cork flooring, homeowners have the option of professional installation or a DIY approach, depending on their level of expertise and preference. Professional installation ensures a precise and efficient setup, while a DIY approach can be a rewarding project for those with the necessary skills and tools.
In terms of cost, cork flooring may have a higher initial investment compared to some traditional flooring materials. However, its long-term value, durability, and sustainability make it a cost-effective choice in the grand scheme of things. By reducing energy consumption, providing long-lasting performance, and contributing to a healthier living environment, cork flooring offers substantial benefits that outweigh the initial investment.
It's important to note that while cork flooring is suitable for most indoor environments, there may be limitations or challenges for specific areas, such as spaces prone to excessive moisture or humidity. Understanding these considerations can help homeowners make informed decisions when choosing the right flooring option for their needs.
Conclusion
In conclusion, cork flooring stands out as an eco-friendly, sustainable, and stylish choice for homeowners and businesses alike. Its positive impact on indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and overall environmental sustainability makes it a compelling option for those looking to create a greener and healthier living space.
With its versatility in design, durability, and long-term value, cork flooring Brisbane offers a winning combination of practicality and sustainability. As you embark on your home renovation or construction projects, we encourage you to consider the many benefits of cork flooring and explore this eco-friendly option for a more sustainable future.

Tumblr media

Tumblr media

Tumblr media

Steel Structures of All Shapes and Sizes
Steel is the world’s most important engineering and construction material; it is an alloy of iron and carbon (2%), also containing manganese (1%) and small amounts of silicon, phosphorus, oxygen, and sulphur. It is low cost and has a high tensile strength which makes it the best choice for building infrastructure, erecting buildings, and manufacturing tools, ships, trains, cars, weapons, and electrical appliances. Australia is currently a major steel producer, with many manufacturers and steel rigging companies setting up shop all over the country.
Why Steel Is the Material of Choice for Many Applications
Steel is part of our everyday life and our surroundings would look completely different without it. It is one of the staple inventions that have shaped the world we live in and played a major role in the second Industrial Revolution when an improvement was made in the production of steel, making it lighter, cheaper, and stronger than iron. But what makes steel the best choice for such a variety of purposes? Here is what you need to know about this amazing alloy:
Steel has different “buildability” degrees
The successful construction of steel structures depends on decisions made during the design process of the alloy. Buildability is influenced by four major design factors: repetition and standardisation of structural components, achievable tolerances, frame type (brace frames vs. continuous frames), and floor systems.
Planning for construction starts early
Planning for construction should be considered at the very beginning of the design process, as there are three planning factors that affect the buildability of steel structures: practical erection sequences (the location of both temporary and permanent bracing systems), simplicity of assembly, and logical trade sequences. Paying attention to design and planning minimises the need for costly and potentially dangerous onsite remedial work.
Automation is used on a wide scale in steel manufacturing these days
Automation is used everywhere in the world and in the steel industry in general. Incorporated by steel erection Brisbane manufacturers and also by rigging services in Brisbane as it significantly improves and simplifies the process of cutting and bending mental. Automation makes production operations more efficient and keeps errors at a minimum. Steel rigging Brisbane as it is today, has been made possible with a lower cost of human resources, owing to automation in sheet metal fabrication and rigging industries.
3D printing can be used for the steel fabrication process
The method is very different from the traditional steel fabrication process, and a printer produces a metal prototype as opposed to stamping and bending in order to produce a required design.
Steel can be recycled
Steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world, with a recycling rate of more than 60% globally. However, the amount of recycled steel is about 40% of the total steel produced, as more steel is produced than is scrapped.
There are multiple types of steel
Modern steel is manufactured through varied combinations of alloy metals, in order to fulfil a variety of purposes:
- Carbon steel – made of iron and carbon and accounting for 90% of steel production;
- Low alloy steel – has an improved hardenability of its thick sections through the addition of other elements, such as molybdenum, manganese, chromium, and nickel;
- High strength low alloy steel – is added other elements, such as manganese, to provide additional strength to the material without raising its price too much.
- Stainless steel – contains approximately 11% chromium, which prevents the iron from rusting and ensures heat-resistant properties.
Steel offers major advantages compared to other engineering and construction materials
Steel is reusable, endlessly recyclable and is flexible in combination with other materials. It provides more usable open space because it is light and strong and requires fewer beams. Less material also has a positive impact on the environment and helps with saving resources. Moreover, steel is very durable, allowing for fast on-site build for prefabricated buildings, and is earthquake resistant due to its ductility.
What is steel used for?
Factories
There are countless possibilities for using steel in factory buildings; these edifices need to be durable and resilient but also cost-effective. Steel provides a strong, stiff frame for manufacturing buildings and is commonly used to reinforce concrete and add tensile strength to it. Steel is also found in non-structural applications in buildings, such as heating and cooling equipment, and internal fixtures and fittings like rails, shelving, and stairs are also made of steel.
Infrastructure
Steel is commonly used in transport networks to build rail track, bridges, tunnels, and transportation buildings like airports, train stations, and fuelling stations. Underground pipelines distributing water and gas are also made of steel. The increasing need for building and infrastructure worldwide could not be met without the use of steel, which is crucial for future sustainability.
Roller coasters
Steel is deeply involved in the history or roller coasters, an exhilarating thrill that we can enjoy due to this versatile and affordable material. It all started in the 1870s, when a mining company in Pennsylvania, USA, adapted its railroad to provide amusement rides to thrill-seekers. Roller coasters became very popular in the 20th century, with a drop in popularity after world wars 1 and 2. However, the use of steel tube rails which enabled the construction of taller, faster, and safer roller coasters, led to a comeback of this beloved amusement park attraction. Today, 96% of the world’s roller coasters are made of steel.
Shopping centres
The use of steelwork, including external applications, made it possible to achieve all kinds of architectural solutions and creations, and steel can be found in various places within any retail building. For example - steel piling systems, steel cores for stability, secondary steelwork for side rails for the walls and purlins for the roof, etc. Steel has a series of attributes that make it ideal for retail construction: speed of construction, structure cost economy, obtaining lightweight constructions, sustainability, long spans for flexible use of space, and reliable and robust structural performance.
Kids playgrounds
Most playgrounds are made either from steel or timber, and the former has some major advantages compared to the latter: easier to customise through the use of virtually any colour, longevity (15-20 years if properly maintained), low maintenance, and durability.

New Post has been published on https://travelonlinetips.com/here-are-10-of-the-best-bars-in-brisbane-3/
Here are 10 of the best bars in Brisbane
Brisbane‘s bar scene has come of age in recent years; the city’s erstwhile love for ginormous drinking barns replaced by intimate and highly specialised venues, many of which have won awards on the national stage.
Whether you’re hovering around the north or the south of the river, there’s a breezy courtyard to start the night and a low-lit den in which to finish it. Here are some of Brisbane’s very best bars.
Maker | Fish Lane, South Bank
Intimate to a fault, this tiny Fish Lane bolthole barely has room for 20 people. It means a seat at the venue’s weathered brass bar on a Saturday night is a rare and precious thing.
Once there, though, you’re treated to first-class service and an imaginative, molecular cocktail list designed by award-winning bartender Edward Quatermass. Tie it in with a show at nearby QPAC or dinner at one of the swish eateries dotted along the lane.
Tip: While in the area, try Julius for authentic Italian, Hello Please for Vietnamese food or Ol’ School for some of the best fish and chips in town.
Eleven | Fortitude Valley
Eleven might boast a cocktail list up there with the best in the city, but it’s the spectacular views you’re really here for.
Looking uphill towards the city you get an oddly narrow perspective of the CBD, Brisbane’s offices and apartment towers clustering together to look like a shimmering citadel.
Saturday nights mean an overflow of beautiful people (and a dress code, so you’re aware). Instead, maybe hit their list earlier in the day for an afternoon Petite Pablo (aka honeycomb margarita) or pre-dinner Apple Pie Martini.
Tip: Eleven’s is one of the best spots in town for a Sunday sesh, so why not end the week on a high note (literally) with sweet tunes, seafood, and Pour Les Amour Rosé.
Super Whatnot | CBD
Super Whatnot is all things to all comers, a laneway favourite where lawyers and accountants loosen their ties to mix it with transient hipsters and well-heeled foreign students.
It gives this CBD laneway joint a welcoming, inclusive feel, its award-winning interleaved design meaning the intimacy keeps up even when things get a little gnarly.
Try hitting it on a Friday night after dinner, when the in-house DJ turns up the soul music and hip-hop and the crowd starts to get its groove on in front of the bar.
Tip: If you like good music with your cocktail, this is the bar for you.
The Cloakroom Bar | CBD
The Cloakroom Bar shifted the goalposts for Brisbane drinking culture when it opened in 2017. A totally bespoke experience, the cocktail waiter will ask what you usually drink and then assign the bartender to make something fine-tuned to your tastes.
It’s a joyous little novelty but also cleverly shifts the focus of the bar to its service, something the staff double down on with the way they walk you through the experience (or, say, offer a hot or cold towel on arrival).
The dapper open-air digs account for the rest of the charm. All that remains is to find it: look for the posters in the alleyway near the intersection of Elizabeth and Edward streets.
Tip: Go here when you know what you like but don’t know what to drink.
Bar Alto | New Farm
Brisbane tends to dedicate its riverside to restaurants rather than bars, so you have to know where to look to find decent watering holes with water views. One of the best is Bar Alto, downstream from the city.
This is all about location: looking out from the first-floor deck at the Brisbane Powerhouse arts centre towards well-heeled Hawthorne, it’s the perfect spot for a breezy afternoon of exceptional wines and beer, and maybe a bar snack or two.
If you like the drinks, stay for dinner — Bar Alto’s restaurant is a quiet contender for the best Italian in town.
Tip: Take a stroll through the adjacent New Farm Park — a favourite greenway among Brisbane locals.
Savile Row | Fortitude Valley
Hidden behind an unassuming orange door in Fortitude Valley you’ll find one of Brisbane’s best cocktail bars.
Savile Row is a pocket wonder of a place, five different levels twisting themselves around a moodily lit central bar of darkened wood and brass. An enormous chandelier takes pride of place, illuminating a back bar stacked with more than 750 different exotic spirits.
If your dinner plans are taking you to West End, try Savile Row’s sister venue, Cobbler; hidden behind a velvet curtain on Browning Street, its back bar boasts more than 400 whiskies.
Tip: While in the area, try The Bowery, just across Ann Street; or duck around the corner to Barbara, a small bar with a very big sound system.
La Lune Wine Co | Fish Lane, South Bank
Inspired by star chef Paul McGivern’s frequent visits to Burgandy, this slick Fish Lane hideaway boasts more than 120 wines, most imported from Europe or local drops made in an old-world style.
There’s even a rotating list of wines available by Coravin, which allows staff to pour from their more expensive bottles without removing the cork.
Where to sit? At the bar is best, so you can order plates of ginger glazed octopus and kangaroo tartare, and chat to the barkeep about what you might drink next.
Tip: While you’re in the ‘hood, grab a cleansing ale at Saccharomyces Beer Cafe or some creamy goodness at Gelato Messina.
The End | West End
Walking through the door at The End is to be walloped in the face by West End’s counter-culture credentials. It would almost be intimidating, except you quickly realise this is less a cool-kid destination and more a hopping local for the many share houses in the surrounding area.
Formerly Trash Video, a much-loved VHS store, The End wears its history on its sleeve with murals of tapes painted around the bar and a few of the real thing lying around. A rotating beer offering and the unfussy cocktail list keeping the good times rolling well into the night.
Tip: Flying solo? This is the place to be when you’re in town on your own, so nab yourself a spot at the bar with the natives and get mingling.
Gerard’s Bar | Fortitude Valley
Located just a stone’s throw from Brisbane’s highfalutin James Street precinct, Gerard’s Bar splits the difference between the area’s excellent restaurants and the rambunctious Valley entertainment precinct beyond.
Stop here for cocktails and a deceptively fine wine list served al fresco to tables of Brisbane’s bright young things.
Tip: Gerard’s backs up its drinks offering with a surprisingly fine food menu (or perhaps not so surprising, given its neighbouring sister venue, Gerard’s Bistro, is one of the best restaurants around), including a wagyu cheese burger that might just be the best in town.
Canvas | Woolloongabba
Other star venues come and go on Brisbane’s busy cocktail scene, but for six years now the award-winning Canvas has consistently excelled with fabulous drinks lists served in a warm, homely space.
If nothing else, it’s an excuse to visit Woolloongabba’s famous antiques precinct. The shops full of violins and dusty chesterfields may have moved on, but this is one of the few places in Brisbane where a huge block of heritage buildings remains largely untouched, the old shopfronts now occupied by a line of excellent restaurants and bars.
Rodriguez and Schofield also own the elusive whisky bar, Jack Rabbits, across the road — it requires a little sleuthing to find the entrance but is well worth it once you do.
Tip: Hit up 1889 Enoteca for authentic provincial Italian, or Detour for chef Damon Amos’s exotic gastronomy.

Pictures as promised! Nora the pug and Luna the french bulldog. Cats are much harder to get good pictures of, they're elusive and uncooperative but I’ll keep trying. It's hard work looking after the animals, dogs are hard work! These two are very needy, Nora especially has grown incredibly attached to me, she's like my shadow, I can't go anywhere without her, I’ve even locked myself in the bedroom just for a little bit of peace. They're also pooping all over the place which is apparently them acting out because their parents are away, and they fight and chase their feline sisters. So it can be quite exhausting, as cute and lovely as they are, and as good as they are to chat to, I think I remain, firmly, a cat person.
At the moment, the van is completely empty, and we're starting on the insulation. We got lucky as when we were in Brisbane on Tuesday, before we came to the house, we came across a couple of wooden pallets for the taking, that a hardware store was chucking out. And this morning, as I returned from dropping Daniel in Tamborine for a day of work, I noticed the neighbours had left a pile of junk on the kerb outside their house, free to whoever wanted it, and the junk included 5 pallets and some other bits of wood. Ideally, I want all the wood we use in the van, for the floor, side panels, ceiling, bed frame, and drawers, to be recycled. Not only would it keep costs down but it's more environmentally friendly, and I like the idea that we can be creative and use somebody else's junk to make our little home on wheels. Obviously being able to do this depends on whether or not we can source enough wood, but so far, so good! Driving the empty van is quite weird, I’ve gotten so used to driving this big, heavy thing. The metal frame and heavy cork boards that made up the bed added a lot of weight, and we’ve thrown out a lot of junk that also contributed, so we have a lot of leeway with our building, and aren’t worried about adding too much weight to it.
It’s all very exciting at the moment and I’m keen to work hard over the next couple of weeks to make it just how we want it, it’ll be challenging and neither of us have done anything like this before, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all turns out!

Enhancing Durability: Exploring Five Benefits of Wood Flooring
Wood flooring has long been revered for its timeless elegance and natural charm, but its durability often goes overlooked. While many flooring options are available on the market today, Wood flooring in Brisbane and beyond stands out for its exceptional resilience and longevity.
Whether you're renovating your home or building from scratch, considering wood flooring can be a wise investment. Let's delve into five key benefits that highlight its durability.
Strength and Resilience
One of the foremost advantages of wood flooring is its inherent strength. Hardwood species such as oak, maple, and hickory are renowned for their durability. These woods can withstand heavy foot traffic, furniture movement, and everyday wear and tear with ease.
Unlike other flooring materials that may dent or scratch easily, wood flooring maintains its integrity for decades, making it a sturdy and reliable option for any space.
Longevity
Wood flooring is synonymous with longevity. When properly installed and maintained, hardwood floors can last for generations. Unlike carpets that may need replacing every few years or vinyl that can wear down over time, wood flooring ages gracefully, acquiring a rich patina that adds character to your home.
With regular care and occasional refinishing, your wood floors can retain their beauty and durability for years to come, making them a sustainable and cost-effective choice in the long run.

Easy Maintenance
Another advantage of wood flooring is its minimal maintenance requirements. Unlike carpets that trap dust, allergens, and stains, wood floors can be easily cleaned with a broom, vacuum, or damp mop.
Spills and stains are less likely to permeate the surface, allowing for quick and hassle-free clean-up. Additionally, periodic refinishing can rejuvenate the wood's appearance, eliminating minor scratches and restoring its lustre. With proper care, Floor Sanding in Brisbane -wide can maintain its durability and beauty for decades, requiring minimal effort on your part.
Versatility
Wood flooring offers unmatched versatility, suiting a wide range of interior styles and design preferences. Whether your home boasts a traditional, rustic, or contemporary aesthetic, there's a wood flooring option to complement your décor.
From light-coloured oak for a Scandinavian-inspired look to rich walnut for a classic feel, the variety of wood species, finishes, and plank sizes allows for endless customisation possibilities. Regardless of your design choices, wood flooring provides a durable foundation that enhances the beauty and functionality of any space.
Value Enhancement
Investing in wood flooring can significantly increase the value of your home. Potential buyers often view hardwood floors as a desirable feature due to their durability, aesthetic appeal, and long-term cost savings.
Homes with wood flooring typically command higher resale values and attract more discerning buyers. By choosing wood flooring, you're not only enhancing the durability of your home but also its marketability and overall value, making it a sound investment for the future.
Final Words
Wood flooring offers a plethora of benefits for durability that set it apart from other flooring options. Its strength, longevity, easy maintenance, versatility, and value enhancement make it a top choice for homeowners seeking a reliable and enduring flooring solution.
Whether you're looking to renovate your current space or embark on a new construction project, consider the timeless appeal and lasting durability of wood flooring Brisbane residents rely upon for a home that stands the test of time.
