My take on @meepdrawartgood 's CopeSwap! Where Reagan takes on Brett's coping mechanism and vice versa, shifting the dynamic into Brett becoming the force that drives the team and Reagan being the social glue.

Copeswap question

Hey guys- So I’m trying my hand at writing a Copeswap fic inspired by some of the great art on here and wanted to see if yall thought my initial reasoning behind the characters would work?

For Reagan I still want her to be the one in Cognito first, but instead of basically following her fathers footsteps she decided she had to prove everyone she was the opposite. She’s still a genius, and is awkward now at conflict due to trying to gain friends, this has caused issues though with the team walking over her in some missions even if they like her more in this au. She also kept Bearo around as more a bodyguard then anything, but some people do notice she still avoids the hugs with a smile more.

Brett on the other hand, took his parents yearly listing as a bitter challenge and saw one thing they sorely lacked. The cleanup crew. He spent his time growing up basically making connections to make sure none of his family screwed up, then in college he followed this behavior when he joined his frats. Becoming CFO in most of them, he usually runs himself ragged to keep people and groups running smoothly even if there’s a small hint of intimidation to do it.

Thats kinda my vibe for them but does that seem ok or am I off?

Reagan is still just as computer smart, but she has trouble with leniency, and no work is getting done because she lets the gang take paid breaks to go do whatever they want, etc. So Brett is brought on to get the team to actually be productive, with his strict and no nonsense mindset.

Reagan's whole crisis with him in the first episode is trying to befriend him to no avail, until the end where they have to work together and she figures out how to actually get on his good side, and he slowly learns that she's not just an annoying, clingy co-leader like he originally thought.

Also Reagan is the one who fills the original Brett's role in The Brettfast Club, trying to keep the gang there and getting the Nostalgia overdose at the end. At the beginning she's in the holo chamber having a nice conversation with a holographic Rand, remembering old times, which Brett later finds out was taken line for line from a scene in The Growing Years.

Hello. Saw the inside job au. May I request some details. As im curious to how the swapping would affect their lives as would Regan be more socialable or is Brett still a door mat to his family?

sort of on both! reagan is definitely more social, but struggles to pick up on a lot of social cues, while brett is still somewhat of a doormat on the inside, but disguises it as "i dont care what youre saying so ill agree" rather than what it actually is: "haha absolutely no way am i saying no to them"

So what changes in cope swap, other than the swap?

everything outside of reagan and brett's roles are the same! they still have the same families, and their personalities arent entirely swapped, but how their coping mechanisms as children shaped them into adults changes how they respond to things and what their coworkers think of them
