The end (Is the beginning)
Tumblr media
"I'm a healer, a guider first and foremost. Not a fighter, even if I have the claws, teeth, magic, skills for it....That said." A small smile that turns sadistic, stalking toward the enemies/threats, the atmosphere feeling chillingly cold.
Gravely so.
"I'm not a fighter, no--I'm the Sacrifice, the martyr." Bloodlust, sadistic, morphing into his bat form. "Why else, is death and rebirth so ingrained into my very core?"
The flame-spines feel different. Calling upon the Sun, his own status as the Moon.
Bloodlust.
--And lands his first blow in cruel retaliation, decimating numbers fast.
"You forget, that I play by different rules." (Your place.) His form changes, goes through a white bat, to a wyvern made of smoke and ash that ignite with cracks lining it, a light, flames flicker out through, licking at the charred bones and ash-made skin. Voice a sharp, hissing, breathless rasp that chills to the very bones, the soft rumbling hum of thunder in it prelude. It falls away (It's not supposed to!), crumbles like the very ground of a desert---A phoenix with only vague traits of a bat or wyvern, unfurling its great wings and plumes in all its majesty.
But it feels different, wicked, cruel without the kindness nor serenity. The pinions real flames hot as the sun itself, that ominous sadistic grin still in-place with all those rows of sharp teeth on shameless unapologetic display, preparing to deal one, final, deciding hit.
It billows a stream of smoke through its nostrils and corners of its mouth, growing in size and warping. A dragon.
But not one of tenderness or seeking peace.
"I am the Sacrifice, I am Change, Adaptivity, I am Survival, I.am.Life, I am.the Sun, I.am.War, Desolation, Renewal, I.am...." Those unnerving, terrifying orbs bore into the puny lifeforms of the so called horrors from beyond, that rallied the Hypogeans --Berial knew his own fate, standing face to face on opposing sides with his Batman, duty-bound to join Phraesto, Reinier, Harak and all the rest.
This, is the final, last curtain call.
But the Jester harbored no sorrow, regrets or bad blood and fear of his imminent end.
Only peaceful, quiet pride.
This was the greatest, best performance he could've ever hoped and ask for, the finale a marvelous end to it, to the legend told, to the journey.
And no puny gods nor blundering celestials will ruin it. (A fiery shadow cast upon the ground.) Free(dom).
A happy end.
".....Death."
The Arrow flies down, a lightning striking down.
The dust settles, an empty battleground. No bones, no limbs, no flesh and skin, no ashes. .
....Only a lingering cold yet scorching heat.
A promise of return, and for the cycle to begin anew over and over again as it would for time immemorial.

⤷ What a phenomenal achievement! So proud to see a talented young woman like her breaking barriers in the world of F1. Wishing her all the success!
⤷ This is just a publicity stunt. She's only getting this opportunity because of her famous last name, not her talent.
⤷ This is a fantastic step forward for diversity and equality in motorsport. It's inspiring to see her following in her father's footsteps.
⤷ I highly doubt she has what it takes to compete at the highest level. F1 requires exceptional skill and experience.
⤷ Such a talented and determined driver! Can't wait to witness her skills on the track and watch history being made. The future of F1 is bright!
⤷ Women don't belong in F1. It's a male-dominated sport for a reason. This is just political correctness gone too far.
⤷ Congratulations to her on this amazing opportunity! A new generation of talent is emerging and she's leading the way. Rooting for her every step of the way!
⤷ She's going to be a liability on the track. F1 is a dangerous sport and I just don't think she can handle the pressure.
⤷ I'm not impressed. There are more deserving drivers out there who have worked hard and earned their way into F1. This feels like a token gesture.
⤷ It's so exciting to see the Senna legacy continue. She's going to bring a fresh perspective and a new wave of enthusiasm to the sport. I followed her closely in Formula Renault and I’m looking forward to her F1 debut!

guys can i be real for a second? Because as a fan of both Logan and Kimi i feel like this needs to be said:
Nobody benefits from giving Logan Kimi’s seat mid year.
No One
No not even Kimi.
If F1 is a business which it is, we’ll think about this in a business sense. Because by kicking Logan out in favor of Kimi just doesn’t make sense
Williams saw the sheer backlash to Australia. Their fans were angry at the mere idea of kicking Logan out in favor of Alex and some are still angry. They would lose a huge portion of their fan base (a fan base that is getting pretty American, may I add, thanks to their American sponsors) by kicking Logan out. No fanbase means no merch sales, no extra cash to burn that we know Williams needs
Secondly, Logan has obligations with Williams through summer break. Huge PR events like Lap of Legends which is sponsored by an American beer and stars Logan and Williams Racing ambassador Jenson Button. If you pull away Logan, the sponsors in Michelob Ultra will be furious as they funded a whole project to center around Logan. And Jenson, who has also spoken very kindly about him in the media will be angry as Logan is known as someone who has his backing/support. So Williams would lose a bit of Jenson’s trust and anger a huge sponsor? Right okay,
Of course there’s James Vowles. Who is struggling to come out from under Toto Wolff’s shadow. How will it look for James if he were to kick out one of his own juniors in favor of someone Toto Wolff is forcing upon him. Like he’s a lapdog who will roll over and do whatever Toto wants? Yeah, that exactly
There’s also the Prema of it all, which a lot of people are forgetting. Kimi is under Prema contract to be racing in F2. There is no reservist for him and there has to be to drivers in F2. Not one. Prema is not going to let one of their drivers—a driver who is getting them a lot of media attention might I add—go on to F1 when he’s only done three f2 races. That’s not how contracts work! Kimi is on contract and that contract states he had to race in f2 and compete in the championship. The whole championship. The championship Prema gets more money/funding/sponsors from the better they do. They can’t do good with only one driver. So no extra money.
Also, Prema has the power to deny Williams as Kimi is their driver and their responsibility. Kimi uses their trainers, engineers, gym, facilities etc, to take him mid season might make Williams or Mercedes or Kimi himself liable for that bill à là Oscar Piastri and Alpine as Kimi failed to fulfill terms of a contract while still benefiting from it.
I’m not saying it’ll work but I’m saying there’s a chance they could.
Now Kimi himself. He’d be entering in the F1 paddock as a pariah. Being granted an exception is sure to make him unpopular, just like Max was. The spotlight that was on Ollie Bearman in Jeddah? Yeah multiply it by a hundred and you’ll get somewhere close to the attention on Kimi. As previously established, PR-wise Williams would be in hell, who do you think they are going to take it out on? Yeah, the seventeen year old who has no control over the situation. He’ll be traipsed around as the new youngest whoever while also being hated on by a majority of people who think he doesn’t deserve that seat.
Speaking of Ollie Bearman. It’s worth noting that Ollie’s pain level after Jeddah was sky high. He was training for f2 races, not f1. Consistently racing in F1 could wreck Kimi’s body due to the sudden change and would have so many negative and lasting affects.
And when he inevitably doesn’t get points on debut because it’s a williams and it sucks ass, everyone will be screaming and crying about how Kimi is washed or how he sucks and so on and so on. What would that do to a seventeen year old’s confidence?
And when Toto wolff—the only guy presumed to benefit at all from this whole situation he allegedly cooked up gets reveals to have had a huge part in this kid’s life, way bigger than the general audience knows (seriously, he has a picture of baby Kimi in his office) everyone is going to be screaming at him for making a bad/questionable managerial decision that has deeply affected the mental health of a teen boy.
Mercedes as a team is already on the decline, this would be the Shitty PR move to end all Shitty PR moves.
Am i saying Logan is going to be on the grid next year? No. But the idea that it is a smart decision for any of the teams or drivers involved to replace Logan is insane.

I still 100% unironically wholeheartedly believe that this scuffed ass reality tv show from 2007 where CBS stranded 40 children in the middle of the NM desert a la Lord of the Flies is one of the most genuinely fascinating pieces of TV I've ever watched just because of how ABSURD it is on every level
Tumblr media
-Their society is a bizarre Communism/Democracy hybrid whose entire economy is based on the barter system
-There is a set class system everyone is sorted into against their will who each get paid more or less money depending on how high or low they are on the ladder, and at the end of each episode they must compete in competitions to decide who gets to be at the top, with the "strongest" being able to get the esteemed title of "upper class"
-Every time they would complete a challenge, at the very end they were given a choice of 2 things that could be added to the town, to which the leaders of the teams would vote on which to get (For example, in one episode they had to choose between fresh produce or 50 pizzas). One of these things was letters from the children's parents, implying that the adults on site were receiving the mail from these kid's parents and deliberately withholding it from them
-In one episode the district leaders of each of the 4 teams (the classes) go out and find a chest full of buffalo nickels (the town's currency), they bring the chest to the town and naturally, this creates unprecedented inflation near instantly, as there's now a mass amount of currency that suddenly appeared in the economy
-Their entire society existed in relative stability until the moment religion was introduced in the form of various religious texts (Bibles, the Quran, etc), after which the town immediately started to go to shit. The Jewish kids and Christian kids were at each other's throats about which religion was """better""" (because they're children who had religion forced upon them at a young age before they were able to think for themselves but that's an entire can of worms I won't open), while the 1 (one) Hindu kid was trying to keep the peace
-At one point the kids start to crave meat, as their food up to that point was mostly canned goods and various produce, so one of the """eldest""" members of the group, (I say """eldest""" because he was still only like 14 or 15) who had worked as a butchers apprentice, took one of their chickens and lead the kids into the desert to where he then taught them how to decapitate, pluck, drain, and cook a chicken.
-One of the kids later did a Reddit AMA about his experience on the show, where he then disclosed various things that happened outside of the camera such as, but not limited to: Oil burns, a kid drinking bleach, scorpions, venomous snakes, an outbreak of herpes, the lack of showers, the lack of multiple toilets (up until I believe a few weeks in they only had one outhouse), etc etc etc
-The parents of these kids allegedly had to sign a 22 page waiver that was basically CBS going "If ur kids get hurt you can't sue us", specifically noting "acts of god" in the contract of things that they weren't to be held accountable for
-At the end of every week, the 4 leaders got together to choose which person would receive that week's "gold star", a star made out of 20,000 USD of solid gold (around 30k after adjusting for inflation), an unfathomable amount of money to give to kids who likely had no concept as to how much money 20 grand was
-The town used for Bonanza City is actually a ghost town/film set located just 20 miles from Santa Fe used as a filming location for movies like A Million Ways to Die In the West (2014) and The Legend of the Lone Ranger (1981). The reason I bring this up is because it's the same film set in which 14 years later, Alec Baldwin would accidentally discharge a firearm on the set of Rust, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins
To anyone asking where to watch this, I genuinely don't know. All of the 13 episodes used to be available on YouTube by someone who re-uploaded them in 2010, but the channel was terminated last year. I've heard that there are a few Google Drive folders floating around that have the raw MP4 files and you could watch them that way but you'd probably have to go digging for it

The ring of fire expands; a titan above you, like a raptured star spitting out its final goodbye upon the world. And it burns your lungs; you are not sure if your body is in one piece, or some abstract beast of legend contracting around the heat smoldering in the ash, emboldened by the light; the sword of your knight.
Or; quick babe it’s 10PM post obscure knight au piece

As much as I adore Lilo & Stitch: The Series and Kim Possible, I don't think my brain returns to any Saturday Cartoon Adventures more than:
Aladdin: The Series - Remember the one where the cat goddess is kidnapping children and turning them into monsters? Or the one where there's a prophecy that Aladdin will die? Or the one where Genie is being hunted by the last of a race of magic-vampires? Or the one where Aladdin is being possessed by the vanquished sorcerer Mozenrath's (what a name) spirit through his magic glove? Or the one where Aladdin literally crosses over with Hercules?
Tumblr media
The Little Mermaid: The Series - I think about that episode where she gets sucked down into the trippy, surreal Wonderland trench and can't escape probably every week. Go to Disney Plus and find that episode, it's called "Charmed," it's worth it.
Tumblr media
The Legend of Tarzan - Like every episode is burned in my brain forever. The Opar episodes where he'd rather die than choose anybody but Jane, even after he thinks she's dead. The one with the Mad Elephant where Tantor thinks he's contracted the same illness. The one with DINOSAURS. The one where the new radio tower makes every animal go insane and try to kill Tarzan and Jane. The one where a different ape challenges Tarzan for leadership and WINS. The one where Jane's friends come to the jungle to rescue her. The one where Tarzan gets locked in like a prison camp with Teddy Roosevelt?! The one with a magical healing albino gorilla?! The one with Kerchak's old rival Tublat coming to try and take over the gorilla family in a series of traps? ! The one with the giant snake?! The one where Tarzan gets bit by a spider and almost DIES?! The one where Clayton's sister comes and forces Tarzan to choose between saving himself from poison or saving all of his loved ones from several death traps in time?! The one where the African tribes from the Tarzan books help Tarzan find a cure for a deadly disease in special two-part episodes?! The one with a WWII spy coming and trying to steal Jane's affections while simultaneously looking for war information he left in a music box he sent to her?! WHY IS THIS NOT ON DISNEY+?!
Tumblr media
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command - Skilled. Courageous. And ever-vigilant. Leaping into action, it's BUZZ LIGHTYEAR, of STAR! COMMAND! I'm tired of having to dig around the Internet to watch episodes like The Wirewolf where an old Space Ranger buddy gets turned into a machine-mauling cybernetic wolf monster by the light of a radioactive moon, or the one where an "energy vampire" named N0S4-A2 tries to eat Buzz's robot friend.
Tumblr media
Come on. We got The Little Mermaid: The Series. That Tarzan & Jane movie isn't enough! WHERE ARE THE REST OF THEM, DISNEY

Kameron Dax
Tumblr media
Kameron Dax's backstory is as rich and complex as the galaxy he traverses. Born into a family of skilled shipwrights (his parents were Joran and Mira Dax) on Corellia in the year 45 BBY, Dax was exposed to the art of starship construction from a young age. His childhood was filled with tales of daring smugglers and brave pilots, which ignited his passion for space travel. However, his destiny took a sharp turn when his family fell victim to a rival shipbuilding corporation's sabotage, leaving young Kameron with nothing but a burning desire for justice and adventure.
Determined to reclaim his family's honor, Dax became a skilled pilot, known for his uncanny ability to navigate through the most perilous asteroid fields. During the Separatist Crisis, he acquired the Thunderchicken, a Corellian YT-2400 freighter with as much character as its captain, which he modified to become one of the most average ships in the galaxy. Used to operating on his own, Dax acquired an R2 astromech droid to be his copilot and mechanic. In the Thunderchicken, Dax was able to make the Kessel Run in 20 parsecs (which was pretty safe and standard). With a hefty sum owed on the ownership of his ship to one of the Hutts, Dax needed to pick up odd jobs to pay his bills and the balance of his loan. Jobs for hauling freight from system to system were always available, but rarely profitable. Sometimes he had to take on…questionable cargo to earn a premium.
Tumblr media
Dax saw the decline of the Republic, the onset and conclusion of the Clone Wars, and the rise of the Galactic Empire. Whatever happened to the galaxy, he still had his debts and bills. He would take jobs from any faction, staying neutral in all conflicts. Through the years, his burning desire for justice and adventure took a backseat to day-to-day problems, cooling down to a smoldering bitterness toward his family's rivals.
Shortly after the destruction of Alderaan, Dax brought a shipment of cargo to the ecumenopolis Inner Rim world of Denon. Looking for a suitable new contract took some time and docking fees were eating into his available funds, so he enquired at the nearby branch of the Transport Merchant Guild to see if they could find him something profitable right away. The Guild presented him with three options: transporting a family to Naboo in the Mid Rim, shuttling a single individual to Cardia in the Colonies, or, if he were to return to the Guild the next day, an open-ended contract promising multiple destinations and a premium fee. His interest piqued, Dax opted for the latter.
The next day, he waited in the café in the Guild office, eating a pastry and drinking a caff, and was taken aback when a woman in a stunning red suit of high-quality bounty hunter armor walked up to his table, a mysterious dark-haired man by her side, and began discussing the details of the contract. But this story is an adventure that will be told another day.
The fall of the Empire brought a new set of challenges. With the galaxy in disarray, Dax's skills were in high demand among those who sought to fill the power vacuum. Yet, he grew weary of the constant conflict and retreated to the fringes of society, where he became a legend among the patrons of Mos Eisley's space dives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, as he sits in the dimly lit cantina, Kameron Dax contemplates his next move. The once-youthful pilot now bears the weight of experience, etched into the lines on his face. The galaxy may have changed, but the call to adventure is eternal. With the Thunderchicken at his side and the stars as his guide, who knows what tales of bravery and intrigue await the legendary captain?

other stuff i watched this year: lmao i actually have a lot of half baked reviews in my drafts but i never posted them because i’m almost always at my queue limit so here’s my chance to do a rapid fire round of reviews (based entirely on whether i enjoyed them)
how to marry a millionaire (1953) 👍 too many people forget what a comedic genius marilyn monroe was
Love Sarah (2020) 👍 🥲 a bakery, romance, grief and healing, intergenerational bonding, what more could you want
My man Godfrey (1936) 👎 boring
bringing up baby (1938) 👎 it has its moments, blueprint for disney channel show shenanigans
memories of the sword (2015) 👍 sooooo melodramatic

The French dispatch (2021) 🤷🏻‍♀️ tried watching this multiple times, fell asleep each time but the fact that i tried multiple times means it goes on this list
most of the movies in the DCAMU (2013-2020) 👍 i saw a gif from Teen Titans: the Judas contract (2017) which led me to watch 11 of these 16 movies lmao curse you tumblr

currently reading: bel canto, but mainly just a lot of medical articles
currently working on: finding a new job because hellooooo 2 year itch
current obsession: ok so if you look at english language sources, most say that pregnant onions are toxic and therefore not edible. however, the medicinal value of pregnant onions is apparently not uncommon knowledge in other cultures (fuck yeah china and south africa). so a family friend gave us a few mature plants that make into soup and i picked off the little seedlings and have been tending to them. that led to spending more time tending to my other plants (i have a lot more loquat trees than i remember) and now i’m trying to air layer some stuff. TLDR; gardening

so the oc... I made two of them actually
one is based on the phoenix, the other is based on a local myth/legend
this is more like an analysis of their kinds, I'll send more detailed character stories later!
the ruler of the land, her name is saena farrah. a fair, benevolent lady that is rumoured to have eaten the fruit of immortality. her home and palace stands in the middle of the ocean, having legendary sea creatures as the palace guards (the other oc's kind, the darayava's). her kind, siminans, are only women, they have birdlike features, notably large, colourful wings that can span eight meters long, and they don't make offsprings but when their life is over (lifespan ranging from 1500 to 2000) they plunge into the sky, up to the sun and they burn, and when they burn they get reincarnated, falling down like shooting stars back into the water, where the darayava's collect what is now a burnt shell, returning it to the land where it's stored in cold chambers until the heat dies down and the woman has finally achieved her rebirth.
dario is the eldest guard, no one remember's when he joined, he's rumored to be as old as the planet. darayava's are immortal, and they have very little population, as they don't reproduce and a spare number of them just appear every few centuries. even if you were to kill a darayava, if their body hits any type of water, they'll come alive again. they once were an enemy of the rest of the planet, making the waters unsafe and threatening the life of the mortals that live there. when the first siminan queen started her rule, she made contract with dario so his kind was to serve and protect her people, mortal and immortal alike, he never disclosed the details to the vows and contract, neither is any information on it kept in the imperial documents.

this is so insanely good, hoyo shoul hire you I'm so serious 😭

UNWELCOME - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: Well Go USA Entertainment
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS:  “A couple escapes their urban nightmare to the tranquility of rural Ireland only to hear stories of mysterious beings who live in the gnarled, ancient wood at the foot of their new garden. As warned by their new neighbors, in Irish lore the Redcaps will come when called to help souls in dire need of rescue, but it’s crucial to remember that there is always a dear price to pay for their aid.”
REVIEW: I am a big fan of Irish filmmaker John Wright. If you’ve never seen his films “Robot Overlords” or “Grabbers” I highly recommend them. In fact, his 2012 film “Grabbers” would make an excellent aspiring for a double feature with UNWELCOME. Wright takes a bit of Irish folklore and adds some excellent visual effects that look like some old-school Wētā FX.
At its core, UNWELCOME is an old Irish folklore tale about the little people, here they are the red-caps. Maya, pregnant with their first child, and Jamie are still dealing with the trauma of being attacked in their London flat when Jamie’s aunt passes and leaves them her house in Ireland. As they are settling in, one of the owners of the local pub springs the legend of the red caps on her and asks her to take up the promise of leaving them a nightly tribute. Of course the city folks are taking it with a grain of salt and you can’t help but feel Maya is going to drop the ball. The title comes from the conflict between the Londoners and a local family contracted to work on the aunt’s house. Clearly the father, Whelan, is a loving abusive parent whose children are prejudiced against the British who came to their land, oppressed them and pillaged their land. It adds a nice socio-political edge to the tale. Of course go awry and Maya reaches out to the red-caps for help. Of course their help comes with a price. The red-caps feel spawned from the screenwriter’s imagination and have more in common with the creatures of films like “Don't Be Afraid of the Dark” (both the tv movie and feature film) and “The Trilogy of Terror” Zuni doll. It is a slow burn that builds to the climax where the little fellows go on a rampage. The nice thing is that while they are deadly wee folk, they are not invulnerable. It’s a bit more intense than “Grabbers” and is an excellent story.
The film quickly goes from the London apartment to the Irish countryside. The cinematography explodes with the colors and textures of the countryside, in contrast there are the shadows and hues that exist beyond the gate where the red-cap live. There are a variety of excellent locations and as the film moves into the land of the red-caps some excellent set pieces. The creatures are an excellent blend of live action and puppets, very impressive and almost on par with anything from the Peter Jackson Tolkien movies. There are some graphic moments, along with a few “oos” and “ahs,” and those are back loaded onto the climax and end of the film. The production designs are fabulous. I loved the red-cap home. I adored Christian Henson’s score. You would assume it would feature many traditional Irish instruments. However, they’re subtle and sparse, creating more of an engrossing dark fairy tale feel.
Wright has assembled a great cast. You’ll clearly recognize Colm Meaney, from his numerous credits including “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," and Kristian Nairn, who played Hodor on “Game of Thrones.” The film features Hannah John-Kamen as Maya, who has appeared in the MCU and “Star Wars” films and Jamie is played by Douglas Booth, who we’ve seen in films like “Jupiter Ascending” and “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” It’s a very natural and organic cast that doesn't rely on stereotypes. I especially enjoyed Douglas Booth’s performance. He creates a sympathetic character who you feel for and are routing to overcome his trauma. I equally enjoyed the actors bringing the town folk to life.
UNWELCOME is a complex tale that uses Celtic myths, as well as Brothers Grimm fairytale themes, to explore themes of violence and how someone might respond is pushed to their limits. The red-cap became the embodiment of that extreme and is an interesting spin on a creature feature/horror film because they are not supernatural creatures, they can be killed, and feel like a force of nature. The film also addresses the concept of consequences for choices, be careful what you wish for. I like Warwick Davis and his work, but if you are a genre fan looking for a film to mark St. Patrick’s Day you couldn’t do better than Jon Wright’s “Grabbers” or certainly UNWELCOME.

Do you feel like Arcane has made an Odyssey or Star Guardians animated show more or less likely?
Cause on one hand, Arcane showed that there is money in an animated show
On the other, Marketting might be iffy about having a second, unconnected, show also starring a character named Jinx
(Plus Star Guardian and Odyssey are less likely to get players into LOL, not that anyone who liked Arcane should get into LOL)
I think overall it's made it more likely - Arcane has proven that a League of Legends animated show is possible and can be a source of prestige and success for the company IP.
But the usual way you produce something like that is by licensing the IP or outsourcing to third party companies, and I think the lesson Riot is going to take from Arcane is "this only works if we are in COMPLETE CONTROL and own as much of the production process as humanly possible!"
The reason I think that is first because that's pretty much always the conclusion Riot comes to about almost everything it gets involved with, and because Riot has been burned before by licensing and contracting with third parties - their ill-fated and short-lived collaboration with Marvel Comics comes to mind here.
So yeah, I think it's certainly more likely that a Star Guardian show (I doubt Odyssey, that skin-line isn't popular enough) could happen, but it'll happen under Riot's complete control, and subject to all the intra-company jockeying and stakeholder-wanking that everything Riot does suffers from.
This is my fear about Arcane... maybe not in season 2, but whatever season 3 ends up being. Season 1 was a miracle that happened due to hyper-passionate people with standing in the company absolutely burning themselves to make it happen. Season 2 is probably safe because it got greenlit and started before S1 blew up so massively, but Season 3 will be a prestige project that every motherfucker with a suit and title will want to get in on, and to claim creative credit for, and you would not believe how fast and how hard that can fuck a show up.

September 15th 2007 saw the tragic death of Scottish  world rally champion, his son Johnny, the boy’s friend Ben Porcelli and Graeme Duncan, when his helicopter came down near McRae’s home in Lanark.
Born on 5th August 1968 in Lanark, McRae was part of a racing family from the start alongside future rally driving brother Alastair McRae. As the son of rally legend Jimmy McRae, Colin got involved in autotesting from the age of 16 and quickly excelled on rough surfaces.
1986 saw the young star behind the wheel of a Talbot Sunbeam in the Scottish Rally Championship, and two years later he claimed the championship title after beating off competition in his rally-prepared Vauxhall Nova. After upgrading to a Ford Sierra XR 4x4i and latterly a Sierra Cosworth, McRae stunned crowds at the 1987 Rally New Zealand by finishing 5th in the heavy, rear-wheel drive coupe in a field dominated by grippier four-wheel-drive machines.
Only four years later, McRae turned professional and started a world-famous association with the Prodrive rally team and their blue-and-gold Subaru Impreza WRC cars. As a curious aside in 1992, McRae also competed for Prodrive in a BMW 3-series coupe at the Knockhill round of the British Touring Car Championship, where he was disqualified for causing an avoidable collision with fellow racer Matt Neal.”
The Scot’s first professional World Rally Championship win came in 1993 at Rally New Zealand where he had shocked crowds in the Ford before. McRae by this point was reaching the peak of his career, with an out-an-out duel with world champion teammate Carlos Sainz seeing McRae crowned as World Rally Champion for 1995.
Subsequent seasons saw him fail to better his second place, and he completed a move to rivals Ford in 1999.
At Ford, McRae’s rapid pace and flamboyant driving style remained while the American company paid him approximately six million pounds over two years; making him the highest-paid rally driver in history at the time. Reliability issues with the Ford Focus WRC - and McRae’s penchant for rally-ending flips and crashes - meant that he would again finish fourth in 2000 and second in 2001, behind Finn Tommi Makkinen and fellow Brit Richard Burns.
Eventually, McRae’s contract with Ford expired at the end of 2002 and the Scot made the move to up-and-coming hopefuls Citroen. Alongside former teammate Carlos Sainz and then-rookie Sebastian Loeb, McRae secured a second-place finish on that year’s Monte Carlo rally, which was to be his highest rally finish for the remainder of that season where he finished seventh in the championship rankings.
After being let go by the French outfit due to 2004 rule changes that reduced the number of championship drivers in a team from 3 to 2, McRae was left without a drive for the new season. It was in this year that he decided to try out different forms of motorsport, with an entry into the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race with a Prodrive-entered Ferrari 550-GTS Maranello rewarding him with a third place podium spot in his class and ninth place finish overall. McRae would also enter the Dakar Rally event in latter years and even make a surprise return to the WRC in a semi-works team Citroen Xsara in 2006 after Loeb had broken his hand.
McRae’s unexpected death in September 2007 came not behind the wheel of a car but in a helicopter accident which also took the lives of his son and family friends. Reacting to the news of his death, close friend and then F1 racer David Coulthard said: “He was fearless, flamboyant, [and] blindingly quick in the car. He had all the good Scottish traits.”
Coulthard then opted to race the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix with a commemorative helmet design to honour the Lanark icon, as seen in the pics.
Since the death of Colin McRae, the Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally has been run in Perth since 2008 and attracted big-name rally stars such as Ari Vatanen, Stig Blomqvist, Travis Pastrana and Colin’s father, Jimmy McRae. McRae is frequently cited as one of the most exciting and talented drivers by spectators, thanks to his fluid driving style which often saw the car pitched sideways through corners.

deep in my lis sobeck blorbo feelings atm!
i have made full time senior research faculty at one of the top-ranked universities in the entire world at the age of 29, 3 years into my career. it is a position i was personally headhunted for, essentially offered to me specifically on the basis of the professional and personal reputation i had built after working in government for a single year
damn near every single person here is a phd or an md. i have zero graduate school whatsoever, and while i do have a degree, it's in a field only tangentially related, and all of what i actually do and every skill i need i taught myself completely on my own. i'm a scrappy self-taught little thing, and even more than that, i am a good decade younger than anyone else working here, and what's even worse, i look it
(i recognize lis actually went and got the damn phd, but the youth and inexperience...blorbo feelings anyway)
this morning, part of what we went over is that the work i do is so critical and sensitive that certain mistakes on my part could result in a national news scandal, and the university losing the entire contract permanently. the thing is, if that were to happen, even from an innocent mistake, it would be right to do so, because what i have access to personally is so sensitive that it could have severe negative impacts on the lives of close to a million children. i can do this, i will do this, and i will be VERY fucking careful, but it's scary! i can do a hell of a lot of good for a lot of people here, but that's the other side of the coin
they are also setting up a meeting for me specifically with the director of the entire research center, who is a giant in the field. not just the guy who runs my division, but the whole damn thing. they told me they want his eyes on me, specifically, they want him to be watching what i do personally because they think i will transform their entire department and help launch them into the future. they have told me over and over that they think that i will be able to revolutionize their processes and research
and i am good at what i do, have been at the top of my class and beyond and able to learn anything i ever needed my entire life, but honestly, i am also terrified of living up to my own legend. it is intimidating to be put in the position of the brilliant star that will make big waves, and to know that while i am very very smart i am also desperately trying to figure out what i'm doing, and to know that because i come off as that smart people never believe me when i have doubts--always the reassurance that you're a genius, you can do this, when i'm like oh my god i know i can but will someone please make sure i'm not doing it alone. i know that i will be able to do my job, but i am afraid i will not be able to live up to the HUGE expectations they have of me. what if i'm only good, instead of great?
despite my fear, i have so much ambition, so much it burns. it's such a catch-22 where if my job is too easy i start going crazy because i have too much restless energy and unspent potential, but then i tend to jump into the deep end on something and become a workaholic and burn myself out. i have not yet learned how to harness that fire and keep it burning steadily instead of alternating between fireworks and smoldering ashes. i am hoping i DO learn it at this job, though
people have been expecting great things of me since i started talking, honestly. parents, teachers, friends, professors, lovers, everyone talking about the big things i'm going to do. i have expected great things of myself as well, knowing that i'm capable of them, and truthfully, i've succeeded. this job definitely qualifies. but i'm so scared i've gotten to this cliff, trying to fly, and am about to discover i'm actually falling instead
anyone who made it through all this and is familiar with horizon is now like oh dude, yeah, you're projecting hardcore on lis huh. and i gotta say, as a brilliant, breaking-in-young, somewhat emotionally stunted and closed off, ambitious, workaholic, dedicated to public good work, confident in my core competence but with deep insecurities programmer/scientist, YEAH I SURE AM

The Oscar Effect on Careers By Susan King
Does winning an acting Oscar change the career of the recipient? The answer is yes and also no. Take Brad Pitt, who won Best Supporting Actor last year for ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD (2019). He’s a veteran superstar with over three decades in Hollywood. So, the award is more icing on the cake for his career. But that wasn’t the case when he earned his first nomination for Terry Gilliam’s 12 MONKEYS (‘95). Pitt was on a hot streak since gaining attention for his roles in THELMA & LOUISE (‘91), A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT (‘92), INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (‘94) and LEGENDS OF THE FALL (‘94), and his first Oscar nominations gave his career an even bigger boost.
Similar to Pitt, many young actors discovered their stock in Hollywood with Oscar gold, but nominations and wins have effected various stars’ careers in different ways. Here’s a look at various Oscar winners and how the award affected their careers.
Martin Landau
Tumblr media
The Oscar has changed the career trajectory of many veteran actors. Martin Landau was making such TV movies The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island (’81) that just squandered his talents. But that all changed when he earned his first Oscar nomination for Francis Ford Coppola’s TUCKER: THE MAN AND HIS DREAM (’88), followed by a second for Woody Allen’s CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS (’89), eventually winning for his poignant performance as Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton’s ED WOOD (’94).
Ironically, Landau told me in a 2010 L.A. Times interview he didn’t think he could play the Dracula star. “It’s a Hungarian morphine addict, alcoholic who has mood swings,” he remembered telling Burton. “That would be hard enough, but it has to be Bela Lugosi! I said I don’t know if I can do this, but let’s do some tests.”
Makeup artist Rick Baker transformed Landau into the elderly frail actor. Burton, he recalled, looked at the tests and thought he was 50% Lugosi. Landau believed he captured the icon in fleeting moments. “I said if I can do it 10% of the time, I can do it 100% of the time. They have to accept me as Lugosi in the first five minutes or we don’t have a film. It was not an impersonation for me. He had to be a human being.”
Melvyn Douglas
Tumblr media
Similarly, Melvyn Douglas, who was best known for his comedic roles in the 1930s and ‘40s in such films as NINOTCHKA (’39), had seen his career slow in the 1950s because of his liberal political leanings. But he came back to the forefront in 1960 after winning a Tony Award for Gore Vidal’s THE BEST MAN, and then receiving his first of two supporting actor Oscars for his turn as Paul Newman’s hard-working Texas rancher father in Martin Ritt’s HUD (’63). Seven years later, he received a Best Actor nomination as Gene Hackman’s father in I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER (’70), ultimately winning his second Oscar as the president of the United States in Hal Ashby’s BEING THERE (’79).
Luise Rainer
Tumblr media
The German stage actress was signed to an MGM contract in the mid-30s. But the free-spirited Rainer, who considered herself an actress and not a movie star, was always at logger heads with studio head Louis B. Mayer. She told me in a 2011 L.A. Times interview, Mayer “couldn’t make me out. You know it was a little bit difficult for him. I wasn’t the type that he was used to. So, the poor man didn’t know what to do with me. For my first film, ESCAPADE [‘35], William Powell said [to him] you got to star that girl…My first film made me a star.”
Rainer won Best Actress as famed performer Anna Held in THE GREAT ZIEGFELD (’36) and as a Chinese peasant in THE GOOD EARTH (’37). All but one of her subsequent films didn’t do well at the box office and she left Hollywood. She made one film, HOSTAGES (’43), guest starred on some TV series including a voyage on The Love Boat and had a small part in indie film THE GAMBLER (’97).
Art Carney
Tumblr media
One of the greatest comedic actors, Carney came to fame in the Honeymooners sketches on The Jackie Gleason Show and The Honeymooners series as Ralph Kramden’s (Gleason) best pal, the clueless sewer worker Ed Norton. He won five Emmys for his work with Gleason. Carney also originated the role of neatnik Felix Ungar opposite Walter Matthau’s Oscar Madison in the 1965 Broadway production of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple.
Well-known that he had a drinking problem, Carney wasn’t working that much in film or TV in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In fact, he tried to convince Paul Mazursky he wasn’t right for the filmmaker’s heartfelt dramedy HARRY & TONTO (’74) about a curmudgeonly old New Yorker who travels with his cat across country after he loses his apartment. Mazursky told me in a 2011 L.A. Times interview that no one wanted the part. James Cagney, Laurence Olivier, Cary Grant and even Danny Kaye were among those who turned him down.
He had seen Carney on Broadway in 1957 in a dramatic role in The Rope Dancers.  “Of course, I had seen him in The Honeymooners. He didn’t want to do it,” noted Mazursky. “He said ‘I’m 59 years old and you want this guy to be in his 70s.’ I said, ‘Art, this is the first time I met you and you look like you are in your 70s – you’re balding, you wear a hearing aid and you have a bum leg.’ He told me, ‘You don’t want me, I’m an alcoholic.’ He had one bad night then nothing else. He had been out on a binge and he showed up on location in Chicago in a taxi in the morning loaded. I took him up to his room, put him in the shower and made him a pot of coffee. He was easy to direct.”
Carney won both the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for his turn, beating out the likes of Jack Nicholson for CHINATOWN and Al Pacino for THE GODFATHER PART II. And he did some of his best work post-Harry including as an aging Los Angeles private detective in the charming THE LATE SHOW (’77) and as a senior who teams up with his buddies (George Burns and Lee Strasberg) to rob a bank in GOING IN STYLE (’79). He earned his sixth Emmy for the TV movie Terrible Joe Moran (’84), which was James Cagney’s last film.  Carney’s final film was the 1993 Arnold Schwarzenegger disaster LAST ACTION HERO. “I’m outta here” was the last line Carney ever uttered on film.

He feels each minute of his day reaching for the sound of Lamb’s phone call. He lays in the twisted silk of his bedding thinking of nothing but of his phone on its receiver, ringing. He sits in meeting after meeting with Fiona and his father and thinks of the phone. He imagines its ringing like an explosive klaxon that will blow through the Underworld, leaving Lamb and Baz alone, a klaxon like the sound of salt and silver, that will burn all of Hollywood, even his aunt and father to flesh-melting, viscera-squirming, painful, hissing ruin while he drinks Lamb’s blood straight from the jugular, right on the death of it all.
Offerings chapter 1 by @unseelieseelie
summary: In the Underworld, movie monsters don’t just prowl the screen. Simon is a demon, plucked from obscurity by the Mage, an ambitious director, and sealed into a contract he quickly learns is more binding than pen and paper. Baz Pitch, heir of a blue-blood line of vampiric acting legends, finds himself in hot water when he violates a demonic contract, and is forced to take a role opposite Simon Snow, a rising star with murky origins.
