I’m currently rewatching season 4…I just finished episode 4 and oh man, it HITS DIFFERENT. Especially the end with Gabriel watching as Carlos is revived and then later TK telling Gabriel Carlos is lucky to have him 😭😭😭
#911 lone star#as if this episode wasn’t intense enough already!#episode 14 is going to be similarly upsetting now with all the consuegros stuff#lone star rewatch

#there have been so many moments this season where i'm like. overwhelmed by the little cultural nuances that don't feel accidental#this episode it was consuegros and the whole 'it's like in-laws but closer' thing#like..... yeah. i know and associate my family with the telugu words not the english and it does make me feel closer to them#the whole blend of spanish and english by the reyes family really gets me tbh that is exactly what my family is like#it's happened quite a few times this season to the point where i'm wondering if they had that insight when writing#either if the writers also had those experiences or they brought someone in bc iirc they've done that before#idk. just a lil emotional over how seen this show makes me feel lol#there's representation and then there's things like this that are so small but mean so much when they're played out on screen

What Beth said! 😘 Consuegros is the perfect way to illustrate, with one word, the bond created between parents whose children have married. It’s both a very specific kind of family tie and a beautiful way of tying two families together.
Can you explain what the significance of consuegro is? Gabriel says the English doesn't do it justice, but I've never been quite sure what that means, whether it's to do with the precise translation or something else
I am not a Spanish speaker so no I can't explain it accurately but calling out to some people who probably can - @never-blooms @freneticfloetry @actual-sleeping-beauty
#this ask is the universe shaming me into finishing esta noche#i so wish los consuegros had had a chance on the show#owen and gabriel had such a great dynamic#but i hope we get more of owen and andrea#911 lone star

TK pronouncing consuegros is actually so good?!! Even though he didn’t know what it meant, the way he says it is actually pretty good! Way better than Owen lol. Carlos been teaching him I just know it

stuck on “consuegros?” “its like in-laws” “only better” and how these families have already come together more than one can imagine in the couple of years they’ve known each other and how they don’t need the boys to be married (even though they’re all counting down the days) to see each other as family and how carlos is seeing the future he barely let himself dream of come to life in front of eyes and how tk not only gets to have his dad live to see him get married but he’s doing it with the right guy—his person—and the right person and there’s always going to be something just extra special about the bond they all share. family on paper, but better. because they make a pretty good team.
#the same with the 126 like….the way this show has melded them together into this family unit#that bickers and teases and celebrates and loves….i’m so obsessed#tarlos#owen strand#gabriel reyes#911ls#911 lone star#lone star spoilers

I think it’s so telling how it was Owen that stopped Carlos. That Owen was the one Gabriel explained consuegros to. It’s more than in-laws. Carlos is Owen’s son now too. Not son-in-law, his son.

Now I’m thinking how much they pressed consuegros earlier. And it was definitely foreshadowing. I hate it here.

I'm just laughing here with the whole "consuegro" conversation. When Gabriel says it means in-law, but the English doesn't do it justice. It's because he is saying yes, we'll be related, but thank God we are not. Then again, everything in spanish sounds better.

reference question
Y'all in my network who speak colloquial Spanish - if Andrea was referring to TK as her son-in-law, what would she call him?
Google translate suggests mi hijo-consuegro, but I don't know if that's just a direct translation, or something that people would actually say.
please & thanks for the help.

I'm weirdly fascinated by how Carlos keeps his eyes on Gabriel when he explains the meaning of consuegros to TK. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems like a really interesting choice by Rafa. Almost like Carlos is reading a lot into Gabriel seeing Owen as family.
Oh I’m positive that was intentional. Carlos spent so long resigning himself to all these things he wanted but was sure he’d never have, I’m sure it means everything to him that his father is so on board with his upcoming marriage that he’s welcoming Owen into their family.

I know what you're trying to do. Don't bother. I'm not here as your consuegro. I'm here purely on business.

I'm like Owen, I didn't know consuegro but understood what Carlos said hehe.
Haha, that’s interesting! I would think singular words are easier to remember but then again “siempre te quiero” I guess that’s actually easier to interpret since you can fill in the blanks, based on the familiar words?
I mean I’m fluent in Spanish so I’m giving him a bad time for it 😂
