Awww, this 1926 home in Hot Springs, AR is so cute and it's just been reduced $7k to only $163K. 3bds, 2ba.
No wreath needed, it's already painted on the door.
Cute living room. Very cozy.
I think that I would try to strip the paint off that fireplace and ditch the heater.
Archway open to the dining room.
Very spacious dining room. You could get a larger table and turn it sideways.
The kitchen's compact but has ample storage. I would have to get a dishwasher and an exhaust hood. Where's the fridge at? I guess there's room for one next to the stove.
Very large room. I wonder if it's supposed to be a bedroom. I ask b/c of the window on the right.
Bedroom #2. Looks like they've been using it as an Airbnb?
Bd. #3.
Always need a washer & dryer area.
Cute vintage bath #1 has pretty modern tile.
Bath #2 looks like a half bath.
The 4,791 sq. ft. lot has potential. I would fence it in, first.

Summerfest day 3 - GHOST
On the hoary street outside Aventus’ house, the children are throwing snowballs.
It’s snowed thick the last few days, only coming to a stop late this afternoon, so that the cobble of the road is entirely hidden; the younger ones, all a little older than it feels like they should be, are shin-deep in it, wading with some difficulty, clothes freezing wet and shoes probably soaked through. It’s the proper kind of snow, clean and crisp and cold to the bone. It lies smooth and flat where it hasn’t been walked through and most of the streets visible from the upstairs windows still haven’t been shovelled clear. There’s meant to be a market today, but after this weather – roads barely traversable unless people start rustling up sledges - it’s doubtful it’ll go through. It happens. This time of year you need to keep your storeroom well stocked, else you’re shit out of luck.
(Once, there were no storerooms; Torr couldn’t tuck themself away until the blustering died down. He’d wear seven worn-thin layers and stick his fingers in his mouth when they started hurting and if it got really bad he’d find somewhere with Griss and Kyrri and Katla and whoever else he could grab and he’d beat down the door of whoever was least sick of his face at the time. The Cornerclub, if he thought it was worth appealing to Ambarys’ better sensibilities; the temples dotted around the city, though some of them were never very helpful at the best of times. They waited a blizzard out on Eirmund’s kitchen floor, once. Broke into a few cellars, a few abandoned buildings, a shop. It’s lucky they weren’t arrested twice as often as they were. They think they got by mostly on luck, some days.)
It's pretty, if nothing else; there’s nobody else out on the streets yet so it’s just the gaggle of kids in their tatty coats and cloaks and the ends of their tunics wet, breath misting in the air so visible it’s practically crystallised, shrieking and ducking and hurling damp handfuls of snow at each other, loose-packed and crumbling. It hits the walls, sometimes, and sticks dripping between the stones; seeps through their gloves, through their hose, and Torr doesn’t remind them to worry about frostbite because they know and he knows they know, but he thinks about it. Their own hands are still scarred, fingertips ever-flushed, knuckles tough and pitted. It’s hard to remember that things have changed, in some ways. Harder to remember they were ever different, in others.
They’re posted up watching against the chilled stone wall, hood pulled over their head to shield them some from the cold, hands tucked up into the sleeves of their thick wool tunic. (It’s nice. Bluish-purple – Babette picked it out, they think.) The kids are all yelling their heads off, which they suppose the neighbours must have gotten used to. Ambarys is stumbling like a newborn deer through the snow; Griss is darting this way and that, her red skirt fluttering like a flag behind her; Skygna has Gellir on her shoulders, a lump of snow held high in one hand and the other holding onto her head, directing her to charge around lopsidedly. A trio of the newer kids – they’ve been appearing more often, Katla said, since the fighting started, and Torr’s still not entirely clear on which is which – are trying to pile up a crumbling snow wall. Skrauti keeps careful to the porch, mindful of his foot and realistic about the strength of his boots and the real utility of his crutches in that sort of terrain, but he ducks around corners and keeps neatly compacted snowballs piled up in his arms. He darts around the corner, throws one that dramatically misses anyone that it might have been aimed at, and lurches out of view again before anyone can try to get him back. Gellir is bellowing, his little face bright as the sun. Skygna is laughing. She always used to be so serious.
So much has changed. So much has stayed the same. Same clothes, some of them. Same people, mostly. Torr watches, leaning against the cold stone wall, and tries to find familiarity in it. Fails.
(It should be familiar. They used to play like this all the time – Windhelm’s certainly got the weather for it, coated in snow for the better part of the year and not all that much else to do about it; the kids would sneak up on him, or on each other, try to dump a damp handful down the backs of their tunics or grind it into their hair. Katla always tried to get it straight in the eyes. Torr remembers back when Skrauti was new, how he managed to smash a hard-packed snowball through one of the rare glass windows in the Grey Quarter, how he damn near cried with guilt afterwards until Torr promised they’d scrounge up the money to pay for it to be fixed. Torr remembers how Chukka down the docks tried to figure out how to lob snow at them with her tail even though it didn’t have half the dexterity for it. Torr remembers Katla shovelling snow down her throat in response to some stupid dare and then shoving Talres’ face in it when he laughed. Torr remembers, Torr remembers, Torr remembers; but it’s like that’s all he knows how to do. Like he’s slotting it away in the shelves of nostalgia as it’s happening. Like he’s not really here.)
(He isn’t. Not really. Not like he’s supposed to be. Once, they would have been the one to start it, putting snow down Katla’s dress, on Talres’ arm, in Griss’ hair; it kept them all laughing, kept them active, kept them distracted. They were the best at those games, unbeatable, though since half their opponents were half their age having the best arm and the quickest dodge probably wasn’t much to brag about. They remember it all but they’re still leaning statue-still against the wall; trying to move feels like an imitation, unreal. None of it feels real. Every time Torr comes back here they feel like they’re dressing up in their own skin, carving the blood off their palms, trying so hard not to seem like they’re pretending. He loves the kids – he does, he does, he does; he would do anything in the fucking world for them. There’s not much left that he hasn’t already done. But there’s little comfort to be found here, these days, feeling slow and stagnant and ill-fitting. They want him here, though, all the same. So he visits. And he tries not to feel like he’s lying.)
Torr is lost, as he usually is here, in thought (he can’t get away from it – he steps through Windhelm’s ancient gates and falls backwards through time, falls backwards into his own head), so he’s not expecting impact, sudden and sharp, against his right shoulder. Just under the clavicle. Their clothes are thicker-softer-better here than they ever used to be, but even so they can feel the freezing shock against the scar tissue knotted over their joint – they’re reacting before they even begin to think about it –
Their head catches up to their body before they actually put a hand on their knife, but not before they’ve flinched for it, shoulders curled in, sinking their weight low, one foot shifting agitatedly against the powder-pit of the snow; then Torr blinks, remembers himself, remembers when he is and where he is and that there is a world past the sudden snap of vigilance singing through the thundering of his blood. Blinks again. Looks, over the muddy-trodden surface of the sparkling snow, to Griss; who stands with one arm still raised and one side of a smile pinned on. It seems to be caught in place halfway through slipping away. There is snow on Torr’s jacket sleeve.
(Once, keeping her smile in place was the entire pared-down goal of his life; Torr spares a moment to hate himself, acutely and utterly. Then he moves on.)
Torr knows the steps for this game; knows what to do; knows what they would have done, though not why it used to be so easy, or why it’s so hard now. Griss looks grimacingly like she’s about to apologise for startling them, which is so horrendously not how they talk to one another that the idea stings. Torr crouches – all their muscles still coiled, chest held tight, very unhelpful – to dig a handful of snow from the ground at their feet and fling it in her vague direction. She yelps and dodges with ease, but it fixes the look on her face; she sticks her tongue out at him and ducks down to build up another arsenal, and Torr shakes his head ache-inducingly hard and tries as best he can to wrangle his attention to here and now. The snow is painfully cold against his ungloved hand, but it kind of helps. Makes him feel like he’s here.
When Griss hurls another projectile at him, he has at least the presence of mind to sidestep; she cackles delightedly, and he smiles, thin and dirty-cold as the dusting of snow on his shoulder.

summary: In the eve of 2050, Spider-Woman is New York’s vigilante trying to maintain order in a revolting society, soon to collapse. The only reason to keep going is the hope for change, as the darkest hour is just before the dawn, but an unexpected turn of events will result in more than just New York to watch over.
(Contains some elements and references I gathered off other pieces of media to inspire the universe and, vaguely, the character.)

Chapter 1
There's no rush hour in Brooklyn, I knew there used to be one, but now every hour of the day is rush hour. The smog blocks my vision just about two cars away, and the acidic rain precipitates over my head as I try to get by, it's way too dark for this early in this afternoon. My hood covers most of my face, as I get by looking down and swiftly dodging the congested mass of people. It's as if I roamed aimlessly, I don't seem to have a fixed sense of direction, I just move where the crowd takes me, knowing I will get to where I need to. My bloodshot eyes try to stay open, I have to push myself. The commotion tells me the insurrection has rised near. I try to push my senses as I look around for instigation, but I soon sense a hand of threatning proximity to my shoulder. I turn rapidly, only to look up to the figure of a police officer on the robust side, who pulls off my hood as he looks down at me with a frown. "We don't need you here. We're taking care of it alright." He hissed at me furrowing his brows.
Now why would he assume I was there to help, out of all the things? Easy, I was dressed the part..
Let's do this one last time,
For my name... there's some people who would pay a lot of money for that information, but you'll figure it out eventually.
I was bitten by a radioactive spider, and for the last two and a half years I've been the one and only Spider-Woman.
I saved a bunch of people, saved the city, saved the city, saved the city... saved the city, you know how it goes.
Some would love the phylantropist role of being a vigilante with superpowers, but I can't say I wanted this for me. However I did embrace it, eventually, and learnt to cope with the fact that we are not always faced with choices, even with who we want to be.
Her fingers typed in a code almost by muscle memory, completing the facial registry. The sound of a familiar voice greeted her as usual, her AI continuing to list her schedule for the day. The apartment was furnished with warm-colored elements that tried to give a cozy sensation, almost enough to allow it's only inhabitant to forget how grey it always was outside. And while it was very unkept, it was equiped with only the necessary to provide strictly physical comfort, being visually and aesthetically very lacking. It contrasted immensely with the constricted streets of Brooklyn, where the compact spaces everywhere had always demanded her great speed and reflexes to get around. There was almost too much space, which could only be filled with gear, cables and other gadgets spread around it in a disordered manner. The main room could only lead to two places, the kitchen or the bedroom, which had a bathroom within it. These two spaces were hardly homey, as everything else in the apartment was stocked in them without necessarily belonging to them, further contributing to the clutter. The hollowness of the living room contrasted with the desk of strange placement, situated in the middle of the room. While despite it's size not being big enough to cramp the room, it certainly contasted with the aesthetic, as it contained multiple devices of different sizes and functions. Screens, a computer, and other gadgets placed somewhat strategically over it. She sat herself as she commanded her home-AI to prepare her a meal, carefully revising what her suit's memory gear had registered of her day. Maintaining her attention on the projection on the screens, she typed without looking on the computer by her side, carrying out a registry of relevant events. It had become routinary, however the pressure of the job rised slowly but steadily, society was aiming for change.
If one were to simplify the overall societal structure almost comically, it could be compared to a pendulum, and in 2049, society had already begun to swing back, meaning it was starting to aim for change. But change can't come easily and peacefully, humanity hasn't reached that level yet, and the rise of industrialization and veneration of technology had begun to be rejected after reaching it's historical peak. The masses had grown tired of exploitation and irreversible pollution of all kinds, the streets were crowded with harmful lights from the amounts of screens and holograms that had rapidly conquered any habited environment. The average person spent more than ninety percent of their waking life staring at a screen, and the damage was such, that most left their houses wearing glasses with light-blockage lenses to mitigate the headaches these screens produced. Everyone worked to consume, and to further slave themselves away to a technology that did not benefit them, finally reaching the breaking point. The rise in riots and violent manifestations had become a regularly growing issue, and through some of these somewhat well-intentioned movements also rised dangerously powerful instigators and organizers, generating the second biggest crime wave of New York in the twenty-first century. The aim was no longer peace, it was simply keeping order, and sometimes order meant some sacrifices in the name of greater good. As much as it could be a naturally hard concept to assimilate for most common people, being Spider-Woman meant she could not afford to hold herself up to the standards of the average citizen, she had to go a step further. A responsibility she did not choose, but was hers to handle. Carrying the name of Spider-Woman meant she had to push herself, and to always reach the apex of her performance in the field, in the name of greater good. But it was certainly a lonely working field, as far as she was concerned there was no other "bitten by a radioactive spider so I saw myself forced to become a superhero" people, at least in New York. If there were to be more radioactive spider-bitten people, she could certainly see why they wouldn't choose the role she did, with the state the city was in, and with no indications of getting better anytime soon despite her efforts, most people in her situation would become reclusive or simply exploit it to gain power. Ever since she was bitten she had assumed this was the only possible outcome for Spider-Woman, a good intentioned hero guided by the motivation of making her home a better place, but as time advanced and her role only seemed to put her in situations of loss, she began to assume it as more of a facade to camouflage the potential guilt behind the idea of holding so much power to use for good and doing nothing about it. And while one could attribute her losses to collaterals of such a risky job, she felt this strengthened her character in a way, and found it motivating to continue pursuing her unconventionally good deeds.
She had been working on her suit's improvements for months now, and gearing up to be able to sustain not only the harsh environmental conditions of being outside, but also maximize her effectiveness. With time and experience she learnt that a suit that protected her from acid rain and the effects of smog on her skin was almost indispensable, as the long term exposure to them had caused her some damage back in the day. Forced to develop protective material from repellent nanoparticles strong enough to block any form of pollution from filtering in and coming in contact with her skin, and with the help of some theft from Alchemax's latest developments and testing subjects, which is a detail mostly omitted for moral reasons, she was able to somewhat acheive said goal, and diminish the effect the smog and acid rain had been having on her skin. She had also exhaustively worked many sleepless nights for her mask's 'eyes' to be able to capture high-resolution footage on command, synchronizing it with her AI to compile everything to her computer. As she sat on her desk, carefully analyzing the footage loaded and working on her ID software, she shifted her attention sporadically from screen to screen, trying to keep track of everything and everyone she saw. She quickly got to the part where the police officer stopped her and attempted to block her way. She watched how the screen reproduced the recently occurred events, and squinted as she watched herself web up from the lane on top of them, soon loosing sight of the officer and crawling on it as she looked down to the riot. She would often pause, zoom, make identification of the most active figures in the conflict, registrating language spoken and features. She cursed under her breath whenever the picture was unsteady and failed to identify subjects, which was most of the times, signaling that she needed to work on the frames per second of her video. She continued her routinary analysis of footage when a sudden anomalous figure quickly captured her attention. She typed in commands on the big screen in front of her and rapidly receded a few seconds, zooming in on a strangely not-conflictive yet captivating white silhouette. She analyzed it's movements on each frame, trying to see anything that could help her identify it under it's coat and hat. The white silhouette moved briskly, dodging the police and agitators alike. Whatever that was, it seemed like it wanted nothing to do with anyone or anything there, and walked like it was in a rush. What caught her attention the most, was that it seemed to have no face, at least the video lacked enough pixels to identify any shade caused by features of the face, adding another layer to the mystery. Soon enough, it disappeared out of the frame, and went unnoticed by her while she swung into the conflict. She audibly groaned as her eyebrows furrowed, the few frames in which the mysterious figure appeared were unable to make any identification, not because of the incompetence of her device, but rather the unusual lack of a face the figure had. The software identified people based on facial features, so even if she were to have this being right in front of her, she would probably be unable to identify it.
She rocked in her rolling chair, her sharp nails scratching the back of her neck. Exhausted and confused, she felt like she was burning braincells thinking of how to find it again. Clearly easy to spot in a crowd, but in a city of a million crowds, it's hard to coincide in the same place, at the same time, in the same crowd. It was a tough coincidence that would take a miracle to get.

WIP Wednesday
A little bit from an upcoming chapter in my long fic In the Shattering of Things. Little meet cute for my Inquisitor and "Serah Bird".
I’m agonized on her behalf as Juniper limps her way back up the hill, the rock lodged firmly into her shoe making a racket on the bridge into the keep. It’s late enough in the day that I try not to bother anyone about it in the stable, tying her off and lifting her hoof up between my knees to have a careful look. No amount of prying with my hands will get this massive rock out, even after digging away the compacted dirt with my bare fingers. This project will need more leverage. I unfasten my jack and strip it off, slinging it over the hook on the wall of the stall beside me. I pray that a hoof pick might be enough, because the thought of trying to hammer it out without Dennett around to assist is a bit daunting.Â
I gather a couple tools that might be useful from around the stable, assembling them on a nearby stool. Clutching her firmly between my knees again, I brush away as much of the silt and gravel as possible to assess the sticking points of the rock.
“Maker, Juniper, you sure have good aim,” I mutter, wiggling the hoof pick under the obvious jam. I apply some leverage to no avail on each of the tight spots but the pick merely begins to bend. Juniper shuffles on her three legs and nearly knocks me over. “Hold still, you oaf. I’m trying to help you.”Â
A cloaked man leading his horse in glances over at me in some amusement as he ties his mount up near the water trough and starts removing the heavy saddle bags. His eyes linger on me as I reach for a screwdriver on the stool that I did not position close enough and gracefully, I nearly keel over into a mound of manure in the act. I bounce on my left foot until I regain my balance, collect my dignity and try at the rock again. I really don’t need the man’s scrutiny right now, but he seems bent on applying it so I do my best to ignore him. Cranking the screwdriver carefully so I don’t poke the soft tissue of Juniper’s hoof, I use her shoe as a fulcrum. Enough force is needed that I find myself wincing, knowing that the rock might achieve some distance when it finally pops free.Â
When the cobble launches forth, accelerated to a dangerous velocity across the stable, I stumble back against Juniper’s hind quarter and watch in slow moving horror as it makes contact with the man, pegging him squarely in the shoulder. The rock hits forcefully, but it only makes a muffled clank, and I’m relieved to discover he’s wearing armor, or pauldrons at the very least under his cloak.
“Sorry,” I manage in high-pitched humiliation. He reaches a long arm to the ground for the projectile and walks toward me with it with a shockingly easy smile on his face for a man who was nearly knocked out by my blundering. He stops a few paces away and I come to grips with his size. I’m a fairly tall woman but the top of my head only meets his shoulder.
“Quite the elaborate murder plot,” he remarks in a refined accent that I can’t place between Ferelden and the Marches.
“You have no idea,” I reply with a smile. “I’ve been planning this for weeks.” He laughs, handing me the rock.
“Better luck next time.” He runs his hand through his shaggy, longish brown hair as he pushes the hood of his cloak off his head. “Bet she’s feeling better,” he says, gesturing at Juniper. I glance at the sizable stone in my hand and then up at the traveler who has a charming face hidden behind a scruffy beard. He regards me frankly with an arresting sky blue gaze.
“Almost certainly.” I set the rock down and pick up her hoof again to inspect it. I glance up at him when he lingers. “So what brings you to Skyhold?” I ask, always interested in the people who drift our way.
“Door to door knife sales. Kitchen knives, utility knives, murder knives. I even have one that can slice clean through a metal pipe!” he says with a fetching grin. I tilt my head up to raise my eyebrow at him, my amusement emerging at the corner of my mouth and then glance down at his distinctive plate armor. “Seriously though, no, I’m here for hire. Mercenary work.”
“Is that so?” I ask, curious. He reaches a giant hand out to me in greeting.
“Barnabus Bird,” he says. I set down Juniper’s hoof, wipe my hand on my breeches and shake his gloved one.
“Quite the name for a mercenary,” I tell him. “Memorable.”
“It is, isn’t it?” he says, pleased with himself. “And your name?”
“Violet,” I improvise, knowing I’m a sitting duck with no one else around.
“And what does Violet do for the Inquisition?” he says as if he knows it’s a made up name.
“Official Inquisition weathervane adjuster,” I reply, matching the ridiculousness of his initial cover.
“A lot of weathervanes in the stables, are there?”
“You’d be surprised!” I untie Juniper and lead her into her stall, aware of my vulnerability around a hulking mercenary in a quiet stable. Barnabus Bird returns to his horse and continues unloading him, glancing back at me appraisingly. I pull my jack on over my filthy shirt.Â
“That’s an interesting mark for a weathervane adjuster,” he says keenly, pointing at the faint glow in my hand and the pale streaks that climb up my arm. Shit. I’d forgotten about the Anchor. I prepare to make my escape from the perceptive gaze of this nosy interloper.
“Of course, it helps me with my adjustments. A blessing from the Maker,” I say with a smile. I head out of the stable and turn around to bid my farewell. “See you around, Serah Bird.”
"Nice to meet you, Inquisitor," he calls after me. I shake my head at my foolishness, glancing down at the cursed green glow that gave me away. I hurry quickly back into Skyhold through the kitchen, wondering if he’ll be recruited by Cullen or Leliana or some combination of the two. His sheer size could be useful to our forces. But then again perhaps this knife salesman could be a decent covert operative.

Ducted vs. Ductless Range Hood: Which One is Right for Your Kitchen?
When designing or remodeling a kitchen, one key decision involves choosing the right range hood. Range hoods are essential for ventilation, helping to remove smoke, grease, odors, and moisture produced during cooking. There are two primary types of range hoods: ducted and ductless. Each type has its advantages and drawbacks, and the choice between the two often depends on the specifics of your kitchen setup and your ventilation needs. Let’s break down the differences between ducted and ductless range hoods and explore which option may be right for your kitchen.
What is a Ducted Range Hood?
A ducted range hood, also known as a vented range hood, works by pulling air through a fan, filtering out grease, smoke, and odors, and then expelling the air outside the home through a vent or duct system. This type of range hood is typically more effective at removing cooking contaminants because it directly vents them outdoors.
How It Works:
The fan draws air into the range hood.
The air passes through a series of filters (usually grease and charcoal filters) to remove particulates.
The air is then vented outside through a duct, often installed through the roof or an exterior wall.
Advantages of Ducted Range Hoods:
Superior Ventilation: Ducted hoods are highly effective at removing smoke, grease, heat, and cooking odors from the kitchen. Since the air is expelled outdoors, the kitchen environment remains fresher.
Improved Air Quality: By venting air directly outside, ducted range hoods contribute to better indoor air quality, especially in kitchens where heavy cooking occurs (like frying or grilling).
No Recirculation: Unlike ductless hoods, ducted systems don’t recirculate air, meaning you avoid any lingering smells or trapped grease particles.
Higher Power: Ducted range hoods are typically more powerful than ductless ones, meaning they can handle higher levels of cooking heat and fumes.
Disadvantages of Ducted Range Hoods:
Installation Complexity: Installing a ducted range hood can be complex and expensive, especially if there’s no pre-existing ductwork in place. You may need to cut holes in the walls or ceiling, which can be disruptive and costly.
Space Requirements: Ducts take up space, which can be a concern in smaller kitchens or for homeowners who prefer a more streamlined, minimalist look. The ducts may also limit where the range hood can be installed.
Maintenance: Ductwork and filters require regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure the system is working efficiently. Over time, ducts can accumulate grease and dirt, which can reduce airflow.
What is a Ductless Range Hood?
A ductless range hood, also known as a recirculating range hood, works by drawing air in, filtering it, and then sending it back into the kitchen. It does not require an external vent or duct system, making it easier and less expensive to install.
How It Works:
The fan pulls air into the hood.
The air passes through one or more filters (typically charcoal or carbon filters), which capture grease, smoke, and odors.
The filtered air is then recirculated back into the kitchen, rather than vented outside.
Advantages of Ductless Range Hoods:
Easy Installation: Since ductless range hoods don’t require external venting, installation is much simpler and less expensive. This is particularly beneficial for apartments, condos, or kitchens without an external wall or a clear path for ducts.
Cost-Effective: Without the need for ducts, the overall cost of a ductless range hood is usually lower, both in terms of purchase price and installation. For renters or those with budget constraints, ductless hoods are a practical solution.
Flexibility: Ductless hoods can be installed in more places, making them a great option for kitchens with limited space or for homeowners who don’t want to deal with the complexity of installing ducts.
Sleek Design: Many ductless hoods are designed to be compact and aesthetically pleasing, providing a sleek, modern look for kitchens without the bulkiness of ducts.
Disadvantages of Ductless Range Hoods:
Less Effective Ventilation: Since the air is recirculated, ductless range hoods may not be as effective at removing heat, smoke, or odors from the kitchen. The filters, although useful, can only do so much, and the air eventually returns to the cooking area.
Frequent Filter Replacement: The charcoal filters in ductless hoods need to be replaced regularly (usually every 3 to 6 months, depending on usage). These filters are typically less durable than the metal mesh filters used in ducted models, and over time they lose their effectiveness at neutralizing odors.
Odor Retention: While the filters trap some of the odor and grease, not all contaminants can be removed entirely. Strong cooking smells may linger in the kitchen, especially after heavy cooking sessions.
Factors to Consider When Choosing Between Ducted and Ductless Range Hoods
The choice between a ducted and ductless range hood depends on several factors, including your kitchen layout, ventilation needs, budget, and personal preferences.
Kitchen Layout and Space: If your kitchen doesn’t have access to an exterior wall or roof, a ductless range hood may be your only option. Ducted hoods require a direct vent to the outside, which may not be feasible in some homes or apartments.
Cooking Style: If you frequently fry, grill, or cook with strong spices, a ducted range hood is the better choice for removing smoke and odors quickly. On the other hand, if you do lighter cooking (boiling, steaming), a ductless hood may suffice.
Budget: If you’re on a tight budget and need a cost-effective solution, a ductless range hood is likely the best option. Installation is simpler and less expensive, making it ideal for renters or those who want to avoid complex renovations.
Maintenance: Ducted range hoods require periodic cleaning of the ducts and filters, while ductless hoods require regular replacement of charcoal filters. Consider how much time and effort you’re willing to dedicate to maintenance when making your decision.
Conclusion
Both ducted and ductless range hoods have their benefits, and the best choice for your kitchen depends largely on your specific needs. A ducted range hood is ideal for those seeking powerful, long-term ventilation and superior air quality, especially in homes where outdoor venting is possible. Ductless hoods, while not as effective at removing odors and smoke, offer a simpler, more flexible installation process and are more budget-friendly. Ultimately, the right choice will depend on your kitchen’s layout, cooking habits, and maintenance preferences.

Choosing the Perfect Kitchen Appliances for Your Home
Selecting the right kitchen appliances is essential for creating a functional, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing kitchen. With countless options available, it's important to consider your cooking habits and space requirements. This guide will help you navigate your choices and ensure you select appliances that meet your needs and lifestyle. Whether you're designing a new kitchen or upgrading existing ones, we’ll explore the key factors to consider when choosing the perfect appliances for your home.
What Should You Consider Before Buying a Built-in Oven?
An oven built-in is a fantastic option for a seamless kitchen look. Before purchasing one, consider the size of your family and your cooking habits. A larger oven might be ideal if you bake frequently or host gatherings often. Think about the placement—do you prefer the oven at eye level or below the countertop? Moreover, ensure the oven has multiple cooking functions to accommodate your needs, such as convection cooking for even heat distribution.
Energy efficiency is another crucial factor. Look for models with high energy ratings to save on electricity. You’ll also want to ensure the oven fits into the allocated cabinet space. Lastly, pay attention to maintenance—easy-to-clean interiors and self-cleaning options will save you time and effort.
Why is a Built-in Cooker a Smart Investment?
A built-in cooker combines the benefits of both a stove and oven, making it a practical solution for those who need versatility in their kitchen. It seamlessly integrates into the kitchen layout, saving counter space and enhancing the overall design. When selecting a built-in cooker, consider how many burners you need. Some models offer up to six burners, which can benefit families that cook large meals regularly.
The material of the cooktop is also essential. Induction and ceramic glass cooktops are modern and easy to clean, while gas burners provide precise temperature control. Safety features, like flame failure protection and child locks, should also be on your checklist, especially if you have young children at home.
How Do Microwave Ovens Enhance Kitchen Convenience?
A microwave oven is no longer just for reheating leftovers; today’s models come with advanced features, including grilling and baking. Microwaves are ideal for busy households, offering quick solutions for cooking meals and defrosting ingredients. When choosing a microwave oven, consider the size and capacity. Compact models are perfect for smaller kitchens, while larger units can accommodate family-sized meals.
Many modern microwave ovens come with sensor cooking technology, which adjusts time and temperature based on the type of food being prepared. This feature ensures optimal results without requiring constant monitoring. You may also want to opt for a built-in model to save space on your countertop while giving your kitchen a sleek, modern look.
What Role Do Built-in Hoods Play in Kitchen Ventilation?
built in hoods are essential for keeping your kitchen fresh and odor-free. They extract smoke, grease, and fumes, ensuring a clean environment while you cook. A well-functioning hood also prevents the buildup of grease on surfaces, making maintenance easier. When choosing a built-in hood, consider the suction power; higher suction rates are recommended for kitchens with heavy cooking, particularly those that involve frying and grilling.
Noise levels are another aspect to look at, as some hoods can be quite loud. Opt for models with lower decibel ratings to maintain a peaceful kitchen environment. Additionally, many built-in hoods come with LED lighting, which can brighten your cooking space and improve visibility. Look for designs that match your kitchen's style, ensuring both functionality and aesthetics are well balanced.
Choosing the right kitchen appliances requires a blend of functionality, aesthetics, and practicality. From the sleek integration of a built-in cooker to the convenience offered by a microwave oven, each appliance uniquely enhances your kitchen’s efficiency. A built-in oven provides flexibility for your cooking needs, while built-in hoods ensure the space stays clean and fresh. By carefully considering your needs and preferences, you can create a kitchen that looks great and serves as a perfect culinary hub for your home.

Transform Your Home with a Stylish Parallel Kitchen
Parallel kitchens, or galley kitchens, are becoming increasingly popular in modern kitchen interior design in Shivamoga. Their efficient layout, characterized by two parallel countertops, creates a functional workspace that maximizes storage and enhances workflow. If you’re considering a parallel kitchen for your home, here are some innovative ideas to elevate both its style and functionality.
1. Maximize Vertical Storage
To fully utilize the potential of a parallel kitchen, prioritize vertical storage solutions. Installing floor-to-ceiling cabinets on one side can create a striking visual effect while providing ample storage. Complement this with open shelving above the countertops to keep frequently used items within easy reach. This blend of closed and open storage not only enhances accessibility but also adds a modern flair, making your kitchen feel more open and inviting.
2. Select a Cohesive Color Palette
A well-coordinated color palette can significantly enhance the perception of space in your parallel kitchen. Opt for light, airy colors like soft whites, creams, or pastel shades to create a bright and spacious atmosphere. Infuse personality into the design with colorful accents, such as vibrant dishware or decorative kitchen towels. These accessories can be easily swapped out, allowing you to refresh the kitchen’s look as trends change or your tastes evolve.
3. Incorporate Smart Appliances
Elevate your kitchen's functionality with smart appliances that blend seamlessly into your parallel design. From touch-screen refrigerators to smart ovens that can be controlled via smartphone, these modern conveniences not only save space but also simplify meal preparation. Look for energy-efficient models to create a sustainable kitchen environment while enjoying the latest technology.
4. Establish a Captivating Focal Point
Every kitchen needs a focal point that draws the eye and adds character. Consider adding a stunning backsplash made of colorful tiles, unique pendant lighting, or an elegant range hood. Positioning this focal point strategically at one end of the kitchen can create a sense of warmth and invitation, making your cooking space feel well-thought-out and beautifully designed.
5. Embrace Natural Light
Natural light can dramatically enhance the ambiance of your kitchen. If possible, design your parallel kitchen with large windows or sliding glass doors that connect to an outdoor area. This not only brightens the space but also creates a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living. Consider using sheer curtains or light-filtering shades to maintain privacy while allowing sunlight to fill the room, creating a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere.
6. Invest in Multi-Functional Furniture
In compact parallel kitchens, choosing multi-functional furniture is essential. Opt for a kitchen island that serves as both a prep area and a dining space, or a rolling cart that can provide extra storage and easily be moved as needed. This adaptability allows your kitchen to accommodate cooking, dining, or entertaining, making it a versatile hub for family and friends.
7. Maintain a Clutter-Free Environment
A tidy, clutter-free kitchen is key to both functionality and aesthetics. Utilize drawer organizers, pull-out shelves, and built-in dividers to keep utensils, spices, and cookware neatly arranged. By minimizing visible clutter, your parallel kitchen will appear more spacious and inviting, enhancing its overall charm and practicality.
Conclusion
Designing a parallel kitchen in your home offers a wealth of advantages, especially when thoughtful design elements are incorporated. By optimizing storage, choosing a cohesive color palette, integrating smart appliances, and embracing natural light, you can create a beautiful and functional space tailored to your culinary needs. At WeDezine Studio, a leading interior design company in Shivamoga, we are committed to turning your kitchen visions into reality. The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Range Hoods for Your Kitchen in 2024
A range hood is an essential component in any kitchen, responsible for ventilating and removing smoke, odors, and grease from the air while cooking. Beyond its functional role, a range hood can also be a stylish focal point, complementing your kitchen's design. With a variety of styles, sizes, and features available, selecting the right range hood can greatly enhance your cooking environment. This guide will help you navigate the key considerations when choosing the best range hood for your kitchen in 2024.
1. Types of Range Hoods
Understanding the different types of range hoods is crucial to finding the best fit for your kitchen layout and ventilation needs:
Under-Cabinet Range Hoods: Installed beneath kitchen cabinets, these hoods are compact and ideal for saving space. They connect to ductwork through the wall or ceiling.
Wall-Mount Range Hoods: Mounted on the wall above the stovetop, these hoods are a popular choice for kitchens without overhead cabinets. They can make a bold design statement.
Island Range Hoods: Designed for use above kitchen islands, these hoods are ceiling-mounted and often feature a more decorative design, as they are visible from all sides.
Downdraft Range Hoods: Installed behind the cooktop, these hoods rise up from the countertop and pull air downward. They are a good option for open or minimalist kitchen designs.
Insert Range Hoods: These are designed to be concealed within custom cabinetry or a hood shell, offering a seamless, integrated look.
2. Ventilation Options: Ducted vs. Ductless
Range hoods can be either ducted or ductless, and the choice depends on your kitchen layout and ventilation requirements:
Ducted Range Hoods: These vent air outside your home, providing the most effective removal of smoke, odors, and heat. They require ductwork installation, which can be a consideration in terms of cost and feasibility.
Ductless Range Hoods: Also known as recirculating hoods, these use filters to clean the air before recirculating it back into the kitchen. They are easier to install and more versatile in terms of placement but may be less effective at removing moisture and odors compared to ducted systems.
3. Key Features to Consider
When selecting a range hood, consider features that enhance performance and convenience:
CFM Rating: The power of a range hood is measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). The higher the CFM, the more air the hood can move. For gas stoves, a higher CFM rating is recommended to handle the heat and combustion gases.
Noise Level: Range hoods can be noisy, especially at higher settings. Look for models with a lower sones rating for quieter operation.
Filters: Metal filters are durable and can be washed, while charcoal filters (used in ductless hoods) need regular replacement to maintain efficiency.
Lighting: Integrated lighting helps illuminate your cooking area. LED lights are energy-efficient and provide bright, even illumination.
Controls: Choose from push-button, touch controls, or remote controls. Some models offer smart connectivity for remote operation and monitoring.
4. Size and Installation Considerations
The size of the range hood should match the size of your cooktop or range for optimal performance. As a general rule, the hood should be at least as wide as the cooking surface. Installation height is also important; the hood should be installed at the manufacturer-recommended height above the cooktop for effective ventilation.
5. Aesthetic and Design Choices
Range hoods come in various styles and finishes to match your kitchen decor:
Stainless Steel: A popular choice for its sleek and modern look, stainless steel is durable and easy to clean.
Glass and Metal Combinations: These hoods offer a contemporary look, often seen in island or wall-mounted designs.
Custom Wood Panels: For a more traditional or rustic look, some hoods can be integrated into wood cabinetry or finished with custom wood panels.
6. Top Brands to Consider in 2024
Several brands are renowned for producing high-quality range hoods:
Broan: Known for a wide range of models, from basic to advanced, with features like powerful blowers and quiet operation.
Zephyr: Offers stylish designs and innovative technology, including smart connectivity and energy-efficient lighting.
Viking: Known for professional-grade appliances, Viking range hoods provide powerful ventilation and durable construction.
Faber: Offers a variety of designs and features, including silent kit technology for quieter operation.
7. Budgeting and Value
Range hoods come in a wide range of prices, from budget-friendly models to high-end designs. Determine your budget and prioritize features that are most important to you, such as CFM rating, noise level, and design. Remember that investing in a quality range hood can improve air quality in your kitchen and enhance your cooking experience.
Conclusion
Choosing the best range hood for your kitchen in 2024 involves considering your ventilation needs, kitchen layout, and personal style. By understanding the different types, ventilation options, key features, and design choices, you can find a range hood that not only complements your kitchen's aesthetics but also provides effective and efficient ventilation. Whether you're looking for a powerful professional-grade model or a sleek, stylish design, the right range hood can significantly enhance your kitchen environment.

The Growing Popularity of Undermount Range Hoods in Modern Kitchens
Undermount range hoods have gained traction in contemporary kitchens, celebrated for their sleek aesthetics, functionality, and space-saving benefits. Installed discreetly beneath cabinets or counters, they offer a clean, streamlined look without compromising on efficiency. Whether you’re a passionate cook or simply appreciate a beautiful kitchen, an undermount range hood provides several advantages. Here’s a closer look at the top benefits of choosing one for your kitchen.
1. Space-Saving Design
A major benefit of undermount range hoods is their compact design. Unlike bulky wall-mounted models, these hoods are tucked away under cabinetry, making them ideal for kitchens with limited space. In smaller or galley kitchens, maximizing every inch is crucial, and an undermount hood delivers necessary ventilation while freeing up valuable space.
This design not only enhances the kitchen’s openness but also allows for a more organized look. With the hood concealed, homeowners can focus on other design aspects, such as stylish backsplashes or increased storage options, without sacrificing functionality.
2. Sleek, Modern Aesthetic
The minimalist design of undermount range hoods appeals to those aiming for a contemporary kitchen. These hoods blend seamlessly into cabinetry, creating an unobtrusive appearance. The absence of visible ducts or bulky fixtures fosters a cohesive design that suits modern, industrial, and even traditional styles.
For homeowners seeking design continuity, undermount range hoods allow a focus on other elements, such as custom cabinetry or premium countertops, all while ensuring effective ventilation.
3. Efficient Ventilation
Despite their small size, undermount range hoods are highly effective at eliminating smoke, grease, and odors. Many models feature powerful fans and advanced filtration systems that ensure excellent air circulation. Whether you’re frying, simmering, or grilling, these hoods quickly remove airborne particles that can affect air quality.
Effective ventilation is essential for preserving your kitchen’s condition, helping to prevent grease buildup on surfaces and reducing the risk of mold and mildew from moisture.
4. Easy to Clean and Maintain
Maintaining a range hood can be a hassle, but undermount models are often designed for convenience. Many have stainless steel finishes that are easy to wipe down and resist stains. Plus, most come with dishwasher-safe filters, making cleanup a breeze—just pop them in the dishwasher instead of scrubbing by hand.
Regular filter cleaning ensures your range hood operates efficiently, extending its lifespan and maintaining optimal air quality in your kitchen. This ease of maintenance is particularly beneficial for busy homeowners.
5. Quiet Operation
Noise is a common concern with many range hoods, especially larger models. However, undermount range hoods are designed to operate quietly, making them perfect for open-concept spaces. Their silent operation allows for uninterrupted conversations, TV viewing, or family gatherings, even at higher speeds.
Many models offer multiple fan speed settings, allowing you to adjust noise levels according to your cooking needs, catering to both light and heavy cooking without causing disruption.
6. Customizable Features
Undermount range hoods often come equipped with customizable features to suit various kitchen needs. Options like adjustable fan speeds, LED lighting, and different ventilation methods (recirculating or ducted) allow homeowners to tailor their choices to their cooking habits and kitchen layout.
LED lighting, in particular, provides bright, energy-efficient illumination over cooking areas, enhancing safety and convenience while contributing to lower electricity costs.
7. Versatility in Kitchen Design
These range hoods are versatile in terms of installation and compatibility with diverse kitchen styles. Whether your kitchen is modern, industrial, farmhouse, or traditional, undermount hoods can blend seamlessly. Their discreet installation under cabinets makes them suitable for both small and large kitchens and compatible with various cabinetry finishes.
This flexibility enables homeowners to play with different kitchen elements without the hood becoming a focal point, making them an appealing option for both new constructions and renovations.
8. Cost-Effective Solution
Compared to more elaborate range hood designs, undermount models are often more budget-friendly. Their straightforward design and installation generally lead to lower costs, making them an attractive option for those looking to enhance their kitchen without significant financial commitment.
Despite their lower price, many undermount hoods provide the same ventilation performance as pricier options, making them a smart investment for homeowners seeking effective kitchen ventilation without overspending.
Conclusion
Undermount range hoods offer a blend of practicality, aesthetics, and efficiency, making them a favored choice for modern kitchens. With their space-saving design, stylish appearance, effective ventilation, and easy maintenance, they enhance any kitchen’s functionality and visual appeal. Whether you’re renovating or simply upgrading, an undermount range hood provides numerous advantages that balance style and performance. With features like quiet operation and customization options, these hoods stand out as an excellent choice for today’s homeowners.
