☄️Funtober Day 23: Beloved OC💠
Not drawing my purple dude this time. Because it's been a loong while since I drew those two blorbos. I present to you.. Fancu Hart (the most loser wannabe glowstick) and his emotional support advisor, Megemomo.
I was still finding my comic art style when I drew that chapter of the comic so they looked extra goofy. I think I should post the old comic on tumblr sometime.

Fancu is a Comet, one of alien sophont species in my worldbuilding thingy, Axolotl Afterparty, here's more about them:
here’s the link to the challenge:

On this day:
SHIPWRECKED!
On October 19, 1829, the schooner Mermaid sailed away from Australia and into the annals of shipwreck history. Four days after its departure, the barometer dropped, and a raging squall battered the vessel as it entered the narrow Torres Straits. Lifted by a vicious wave, the Mermaid was slammed down upon a reef. It was smashed, and the crew was dashed into the boiling waters. All twenty-two people swam toward a jagged rock some distance away. For three days they clung, cold and wet, to the peak, until the barque Swiftsure journeyed into the straits and rescued them.
Five days later, the Swiftsure was caught in an unexpected current and bashed upon the barren rocks. Forced to swim once more, everyone headed for a sandy beach, and everyone made it. Signals were set, and a brief eight hours later the Governor Ready picked everyone up. Three hours after that, the combined crew and passengers of all three boats were forced overboard as fire blazed through the cargo ship. The few lifeboats were crammed full and floated desolately in the vast waters, away from regular shipping lanes.
Luck held. The Comet, a cutter, came by and took everyone aboard, though the crew complained of a jinx. Seven days later, a nasty storm snapped the cutter's mast, tattered the sails, ripped the rails, and wrecked the rudder. The Comet's crew grabbed the only seaworthy longboat and left their unwelcome guests aboard the sinking vessel, in shark infested waters. The next day, the packet Jupiter came over the horizon to the rescue. Not one life had been lost in the series of shipwrecks. And amazingly, one of Jupiter's passengers was an elderly woman heading for Australia to search for her missing son—who was one of the original crewmen on the Mermaid.

Day 13: Comet Moth/ The Dreamlands
Actually relistened to John’s initial description when Arthur materializes in the Dreamlands. I didn’t quite capture the energy of it to me, but the colors are pleasing! (To be fair, I *love* the Dreamlands arc and would probably not have been satisfied no matter how it turned out.)

If the conditions are right, comets can leave debris trails that cause meteor showers if Earth’s orbit encounters their path, such as the October Orionids, which are particles from the famous Halley’s comet.
The next meteor shower, the Southern Taurids, is expected to peak on the night of November 4 into the early morning of November 5 and also has a comet for a parent body called Comet Encke.
"However, any debris from C/2023 Tsuchinshan–ATLAS or C/2024 S1 will not pass near enough to Earth to produce a meteor shower," Cooke said.
"How often comets are visible in our skies is variable, with some years offering up a handful of the icy bodies that sky-gazers can spot and others not so fruitful," Battams said.
“Historically, comets have always been a source of fascination to people, in part due to the fact that they are such infrequent occurrences,” he added.
“I’m sure back in pre-industrial times when light pollution was no concern, some of the comets that people saw must have been equally awe-inspiring and terrifying!”
