No cuz I feel like the fact that yaz can fly the tardis by herself is something thats just breezed past! she spent 10 months properly studying a different (presumbaly newer and less Fucked tardis) and then next time we see her in the holloween apocalypse, shes co-piloting with a clear understanding of what to do. Plus, even offering the solution when the doctor stands and looks confused. And of course, in Potd, shes doing a ton of planet and time hoping all by herself with a great amount of precision.

Why don't you consider 13 cannon :o Is it chibnall's writing? I've heard a lot of people disagree with it

Thank you for asking so politely, firstly! I actually expected to receive fire from anyone who cared about my previous answer. (Hi, if you're the same Anon!) I will probably receive fire after this one from someone, and I'm strapping on the turnout gear now, would you please hand me my boots-

Yes, it's definitely a huge factor, Chibnall's writing. I'm one of those people! I hate his writing. I always have. Every episode he ever wrote for the show, I disliked, and wrinkled my nose at, and thought it was low quality and bad writing even before I was sure who wrote them, or realized it was the same person each time. My reaction to his work does not mean he's objectively a bad writer, it just means I think he's a bad writer. He does not, in my opinion, know how to show and not tell (I actually struggle so hard with that myself but no one is entrusting a 60-year-old legendary television show unto me, thank the Lord) and his characterization is - nonexistent. Yaz and co. do not have personalities and are just a bunch of mouths...moving. Sad! And Thirteen is not the Doctor. She doesn't feel like the Doctor to me; she's morally shallow, poorly characterized, and badly written. She's inconsistent and sloppy! (Not the actress's fault.) I don't look at her and see the Doctor, I look at her and cringe. She makes me unhappy whenever I see her. Her tenure and Chibnall's piloting almost caused the unsalvageable crash of the entire show. But those are only two of three factors in my dislike! If you care to hear the third, and please pass me my helmet- I also don't believe males can or should attempt to change into females, and I believe that the decision to cast the first female Doctor Who was based solely on the agenda of communicating that males can and should attempt to change into females. I know the Doctor is an alien; I'm not talking about specifically the decision to change the Doctor, I'm talking about the decision to change the gender of the main character, regardless of their species. I don't think they were trying to say aliens can be whatever they want. I think they were trying to say people can and should change their gender at will and it should be celebrated. Does that make sense? I personally believe the casting was based on the aforementioned agenda(s) and not on who might be best for the part, with really bad results. I do not think the character of the Doctor should have been changed from male to female, and I do not think that when the character was changed from male to female, it was for a good reason or executed properly. They did not convince me of anything other than that it was a really bad idea and they shouldn't have done it. That's not a critique of anyone's acting abilities, or on the work ethic of the cast and crew. It's a critique of the storytelling process and the way the story was told, and why.

1st February - Umbrella, I’m Still Standing

Prompt: Umbrella, Baked Alaska, I’m still standing

I am taking part in the February choices challenges.

I won’t do all 3 prompts but it will be maximum of 1 or 1

The Doctor has a walk & reflects on her hardships & knows she is still standing.

The Doctor walked through the streets of London. It was raining so she had a her umbrella to cover her from downpour of rain.

She was drowning her sorrows of the recent revelations by walking. She had to deal with the heavy burden from knowing what she knew was a lie and being imprisoned by the Judoon She regretted leaving it too late with Ryan and Graham but she knew she got them safe as she promised.

Moving to Trafalgar Sqaure but holding on to her umbrella, the Doctor changed her thoughts for a few minutes. Even if she thought things were tough, she thought of the lyrics by Elton John..

“I’m still standing better than I ever did,

Like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid.

I’m still standing after all this time.”

As she sang and remembered the lyrics, it clicked at the precise moment for the Doctor. She was a survivor and she was still standing.

She wasn’t letting her past or the Master get to her. She was focusing on the present day and her friend Yaz. She did feel that she had some tough decisions. Should she tell Yaz about her past or kept it a secret.

She returns to the TARDIS to see Yasmin Khan greet her. Yaz has always been there for her since she had first met. She knew they were so close. She gave her smile to her best friend who cleared the path to let her in and put down her umbrella,

The Doctor and Yaz began to co-pilot the TARDIS to a new destination. She didn’t know what would be next. Although, she kept those important lyrics, “I’m Still Standing” in her head as she headed on with her adventures.

Not sure if anyone has posted about this but I was thinking… You know how Yaz has those Y and Z initial necklaces?

What if in the centenary special Yaz gives them to Thirteen, It could be both necklaces or just the Y. Or maybe Thirteen ends up with them somehow and after Thirteen regenerates Fourteen decides to wear them.

One of those things they started doing at some point (I think during Flux?) was having the Doctor and Yaz super in sync whilst they’re piloting, saying the same stuff, swapping off lines of what to do next with the controls etc. It’s such a nice way of showing their relationship has grown closer without spelling it out. Don’t get me wrong, they do that *too*, but ‘telling’ only really works if there’s some ‘showing’ to back it up. And they’ve been consistently doing this for a while now so much that it would now seem weird if Yaz *didn’t* join in.

sometimes i think about how yaz didn't get the ending she deserved and i want to scream. she sacrificed her whole life—her family, her friends, her job, her ambitions—for thirteen and she put her heart and soul into travelling in the tardis. she learned how to be with the doctor, even how to be the doctor, but all she has to show for it is a brave face and a broken heart. sometimes i think about how yaz lost her co-pilot along with all her hopes and dreams of getting more from the world, and i just want to scream.

okay i Will get a life bc if a pretty woman on the internet tells me to get a life (and make zines), i will get a life (and make zines), but seeing as i dont have one yet, here are my top 3 "damn i wish someone read that one" fics:

wondering about the perspective of the person who confuses interbellum with no man’s land (thasmin smut but make it a 2000 word long poem. only thing ive written of which the title was exactly as good as the fic i think)

playing doctor (vault arc but make it 13/yaz/missy, has great chapter titles, and my mother liked it, even the octopussy parts) it's very pretty printed too:

sunset provision (14/yaz shared theological/ontological crisis. i call the doctor a psychologically disturbed rhesus monkey and co-piloting a religiously charged cockfight. And theres footnotes <3)

watching a video on youtube abt making zines and shes like "i have a full exciting life that i create for myself every single day that has nothing to do with zines. and i think that when you have more things going on in your life youre less likely to become hyperfocused on the reaction you get to your work" and im like damn outgecalled, no wonder we get neurotic abt it here on the hyperfocus no life website

the more i think about series 13, the more i feel like the entire flux storyline was a subtle way to build up the doctor's feelings for yaz.

we've seen how much being separated from the doctor hurts yaz, and they show us that again, i suppose to show that yaz's feelings for the doctor are only getting stronger & aren't going to go away, but there had been little focus on the doctor's feelings up until this point.

at the beginning, we see the doctor's pride at yaz's growth, in the awe filled glance while they co-pilot the tardis (the fact she taught her to fly the tardis is another thing!). we see how much her trust has grown, when she lets yaz go off on her own in a way she hesitated to do in series 12. so much of the series is about yaz being taken from the doctor and the doctor trying to get her back. in crimea, in the temple of atropos, in front of the weeping angels. the fear in the doctor's voice when she says things like "i have to find yaz" and "you could be lost, and i won't be able to find you"

and then the hologram. the way her face falls when she says "i'm probably worried for you if you're hearing this, and i'm sure i miss you". she hasn't even lost her at that point, but just the thought of it is terrifying. all of a sudden, she's realised that she can't bare to be away from her. that's why she stops everything she's doing when they're reunited just to hug her, because even though the universe is ending, that is her first priority, making sure yaz is safe, that yaz is back with her. there's the parallels to bel and vinder too, two people fighting their way through a broken universe because they love eachother so much.

it's subtle, but it's there. and i still love it. the fact that it was being separated that made both of them realise their love for each other.

im watching legend of the sea devil again and like! yaz is co-piloting the tardis here! I knew she flies it in PoTD but I didnt know it ever happened sooner!

people saying that thasmin came out of nowhere as if we didn’t have ‘it felt cruel, to be shown something i couldn’t have anymore’ or ‘you’re the best person i’ve ever met’ or ‘i’m not ready to let you go yet’ or yaz throwing herself into harms way for the doctor on gallifrey or ‘i missed you’ ‘i missed you too’ or ‘co-pilot?’ or moments upon tender nuanced moments of each of them falling for one another, and yes, especially yaz

it was subtle to us because it reflected narratively the internal mode of the characters. yaz couldn’t admit it to herself, not really, so the small moments we got to see are the moments that she allowed herself to have, that she felt didn’t cross that line. and as for the doctor, who has been proven to be good at pretending, to ignore things that are too hard to cope with until she has to; of course the confirmation of her own longing came after dan spoke the unspeakable! because she knows better than anyone that words are powerful. and words make things real. she can’t ignore it anymore, and as the viewers, neither can we.
