Cloudwater Distant Shimmer Pale Ale (Picked up at a Whole Foods in London, UK). A 3 of 4. Solid tropical fruit in the nose and a touch of pine/resin in the body hop-wise, and a light body that has a bit more heft to it than I was expecting. Refreshing and bright.

“Therefore, let my child be aware that the first matter of everything in the world has been Mercury; since water existed before there was even time, and the Spirit of the Lord rested on it. But what kind of water was it? Was it cloudwater? Or another kind that one could pour? No, but it was a dry, slimy water into which God set His earth, which was His Sulphur, so that the earth coagulated the water, and there arose from it the four Elements which had been locked in these two by command of God and His supreme Will. Mercury dissolves the Sulphur, and Sulphur coagulates Mercury, and these two cannot be one without the other. Mercury is never without the Sulphur because it is transformed into it. The nature proper of Mercury is that it dissolves its Sulphur and makes it white, and the nature of the dry Sulphur purges and congeals its Mercury. As these two cannot be one without the other, they also cannot be without Salt. The latter is the principal means whereby Nature accomplishes her generation of all things in the whole world, in vegetables, minerals, as well as in animals, which teaching of mine you should well understand.

For if Nature did not have Mercury in her generation straight at the beginning of the original composition of every created thing, the latter could not keep together in its natural moisture, which is one of the most necessary ingredients for keeping a thing in its essence. And if she did not have the Sulphur, the moist parts would not be congealed. Likewise if she did not have the Salt (which is the means whereby she connects both and causes one to enter the other), it would neither mingle with anything in the world nor unite with it, because there would be no sharpness for entering, and it could not unite with anything. Consequently, these three, namely Mercury, Sulphur, and Salt, are none without the other; where you find one of them, you find them all three, and there is no created thing in the world wherein you do not find them. From these three everything has arisen that is in the world.”

I find cloudwater brew inspirational as they have found a unique way to market their beers unexpectedly and in a very contemporary manner. for example they sell mini casks, glassware and beer in wine shaped bottles.

their logo and name is ineteresting beause they depict rain water which connotes fresh, clean and helthy which is opposite to what beer is. it suggests this beer might be healthier and cleaner for your body which ties into the aspect of my research which found people are looking for healthier ways to enjoy alcohol.

I find the design of the bottles inspirational because they feel clean and conside yet energetic and exciting though the use of the sans serif typeface and bright colours. this packaging has inspired the labels i designed, because they have made the designs feel contemporary.

You could call the city of Carturesti a cavern, but it just wouldn't do it justice. True, it is technically a gaping space in the heart of Bucharest, but it carries nothing of the damp darkness which we learned to associate with caverns. Shining white as the provoking pages of a virgin manuscript, the climbing passages across its walls take you along stacks and stacks of books, mottled receptacles of fantasies tiled by the inhabitants to signal each other the mood of the day, a prayer for the ancestors, their hidden love for a personal angel... Every shelf has its colorful code, impossible to decipher for an outsider. You will meet your likes on the winding paths of Carturesti: simple travelers, wide eyed children feeling their way on the brink of trespassing into the world of somebody else's dream, yet kept in this world by mundane plans and petty reasonings. At this hour the elusive locals are reading in the shadows of their secluded dwellings, entrances sealed behind fascinating book shelves, windows covered in colorful artwork because daylight attacks the support paper and then stories would begin to fade - the greatest sacrilege in the city of books. Only at night the stairs start creaking in another language, winds shuffling page after page in enlightened minds, the hearts of the people of Carturesti thumping in the rhythms of their encounters with the worlds of each other. But long after the city gates closed for the night, a lingering pine aroma with hints of grapefruit from your West Coast IPA will remind them of your passing and maybe tomorrow, some book stack will carry a new cover, sunny and rosy and offering the bookshelf inhabitants a fresh cue that our world still has something valuable to offer.

Another archive post for you. Remember bottled hype beers? Well here was an OG UK Whale. Beer of the day 105. @cloudwaterbrew DIPA v2, 9.6%. A great nose of mango and pineapple with hints of pine and yeasty esters pulls you into this deceptively strong beer. The first thing you get when you taste is a big hit of malts that turn your tongue into a punching bag ready for the right fist of fruity hops, more pineapple and some papaya, followed the left hook of yeasty flavours, there to tie the beer together before you're floored by an uppercut of a finish, a little boozy then dry then fruity then dry again for a long lasting finish. Basqueland Brewing + Cloudwater Brew Co. Finest Hour DDH IPA on tap at Craft Beer Co. in London. A 4 of 4. One of the best IPAs I've had this year -- bursting with complex tropical fruit and citrus, and a creamy, fruity body that carries it so well. Well-balanced with some firm bitterness towards the finish, but there's a fruity stickiness that lingers, too.
