After seeing Divergent for the third time, I’ve realized that the love between Tris and Four is real - that’s what’s different about Divergent than most teen books. The girl isn’t weak, she doesn’t need to rely on him. But she does, because she loves him. He knows she is strong, he pushes her because she can do it. And Four, he shows weakness, like men are stereotypically not allowed to do. He relies on Tris. I just find it so beautiful.

Chemical vs Physical Sunscreen

Ever look at the packaging of a product that contains SPF?  Whether it’s makeup, moisturizer or sunscreen, the ingredients that are actually doing the protecting are labelled as the “Active Ingredients”.  

Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide are the two usual ingredients that compromise a physical sunscreen.  Physical sunscreens sit on top of the skin and provide almost instant protection of the suns rays.  Because these ingredients don’t absorb into your skin, these are sometimes better for people who have sensitive skin.  Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxides are minerals, so if ever you see a mineral sunscreen it is safe to assume that it is a physical sunscreen.

All other Active Ingredients for sunscreen are considered a chemical sunscreen.  Chemical sunscreen absorbs into the top layer of the skin, and usually takes 20-30 minutes to become fully effective.  The benefits of chemical sunscreens are that they’re usually clear, or not as thick and white as physical sunscreens are, and they have little to no scent.  This makes them perfect for people with darker complexions, or those of us who dislike the smell and feel of sunblock on our skin.

Most sunscreens and products containing SPF contain a blend of physical and chemical sunscreen, so that they can be as effective as possible.  Check the ingredients list on your products, and make smart decisions about what types of sunscreen are best for you!

Sunscreen needs to be reapplied every 2 hours to maintain effectiveness.  If you’re wearing makeup, this could seem like a hassle - that’s why so many companies now have SPF available in products like finishing powder and mists.  These can easily go over top of your makeup without disturbing anything underneath or taking too much time!
