Christmas eve, glass beads and a secret for Dwayne Pride, please! ^_^
Tagging: @kmc1989 @mandy426 @keyweegirlie @luckyladycreator2 @buckysteveloki-me
Companion piece to:
Ro - Dwayne starts to see you in a different light.
Haunted House - A trip to a haunted house leads to Dwayne confronting his feelings for you.
Dwayne doesn’t learn your secret, not until Christmas Eve. You’ve been working with his team for almost six months at that point and he’s always wondered about the neck scarves. You have one for every outfit, each colour coordinating your clothing.
He thought it was a Georgia thing but now, as he reviews the scarring on your throat, he understands it’s a you thing.
“You don’t have to hide it.” He tells you as you avert your gaze, busying yourself by folding your mud covered clothes and tucking them into a paperbag.
You’d been chasing a perp through some swampland when you’d taken a tumble in the dirt, you’d come back completely covered in it. Gregario had taken pity on you, given you the clothes from her go bag. The problem is, Tammy is a fan of v-necks and she doesn’t wear neck scarves.
“It raises a lot of questions.” You tell him, your hand rubbing over the mark unconsciously. “Questions that I don’t really want to answer. I prefer people to think I’m a little eccentric.”
“Is that why you’re hiding out in here?” He asks you as he leans back against the conference room table. “You don’t want them to see?”
You don’t respond to his question, instead you hug the paperbag closer to your chest and Dwayne understands what you’re not saying. You’re still trying to come to terms with what happened to you, you’re not ready to tell anyone else that story just yet.
“Wait here.” He says before he disappears from the conference room. He returns a few minutes later with a necklace in his hand, a choker made of midnight blue glass beads. It’s a stunning piece of jewellery, a statement piece, you think.
“It’s my mother’s.” He tells you as he unfastens the clasp. “I’m moving her to a facility closer to home and I haven’t had time to shift the rest of her things just yet. She won’t mind if you borrow it for a day.”
You stand still as he drapes it over your neck, watching in the reflection of the window as he pulls it taut against your throat. Her breath catches because the last time you were in this position…
Well, the result is etched into your skin.
“Almost done.” He murmurs, fumbling the clasp and the sound of his voice, it soothes something deep inside you. His hands come to rest on your shoulders, squeezing lightly as before he steps away. “Perfect fit.”
And it is, it hides that scar entirely, shielding it away from prying eyes.
“Thank you.” You say as your fingertips run over the pretty beads. “I know it’s silly…”
“No.” Dwayne says, his voice full of understanding. “It’s not silly at all.”

I looooooooove the chris x wife! reader fic that you wrote!! It got me kicking my feet and blushing 😊 By any chance, could you write a chris x wife! reader going on their honeymoon?
Awww this is such a cute idea, thank you so much, I’m so happy to hear that you loved the last one! ⋆˙⟡♡ I had to get something out on the man’s birthday as soon as I could and this request was the one I was fixated on finishing the most, so do enjoy reading and McLean’s bday ~💗!
CHRIS MCLEAN X WIFE! READER ON HONEYMOON HEADCANONS
Most newly wed couples go to just one location for their honeymoon.
Yet it was very poor of you to think that standard would apply to Chris.
You didn’t realise until he informed you that you were gonna go to two countries per continent(apart from Antartica, cuz what the hell): Barbados and Costa Rica for North America, Brazil and Colombia for South America, France and Italy for Europe, Thailand and (The) Philippines for Asia, Morocco and Tunisia for Africa, French Polynesia and Australia for Oceania.
The only reason why Chris cut it to two instead of four was because he suspected you would get sick of travelling, and didn’t want you to be complaining on holiday.
“Chriiis, we don’t need to, you know!” you’re verbal about your humble take on the honeymoon as Chris made his long list based on the notes he wrote from his and your opinions,“This is all so costly! We could really go to two continents instead!”
“Huh?” he looks at you, confusion scratching into the space between his eyebrows,“(Y/N), this is literally nothing. You seriously wanna spend our whole two months of celebrating marriage in one place like working class people?”
Harsh, but it’s fine because it’s Chris.
Before you left, he took you on a massive shopping spree where it had not even been the beginning of him pampering you with all the jewellery, the swimsuits and the candies.
This guy doesn’t need to book reservations: the best hotels, air BNBs, holiday homes, you name the one you want to stay at the country and baam. Availability opens a door and charm hands over the keys.
He also hired a chaperone for each country, but most of the time, only for the arrival and departure; he wanted more alone time with you.
At this rate, you wondered if he needed to pay to enter the countries asides from paying the fuel and landing runway.
That’s right. You were getting there by his jet -he ended up upgrading- to each location.
Since it wasn’t meant to carry fifteen contestants this time, Chris abolished the loser and first class section in the new version of his plane to be furnished completely into his headquarters.
During each jet ride, you and Chris would review helpful phrases and attractions that would enhance the experience.
“So in France, we will have to remember to say “bonsoir” from 6 PM onwards.” you reiterate.
“That’s doable.” Chris comments, leaning back in his chair.
“And they don’t like smiling a lot.” you add, doing it yourself.
His relaxation ended,“Bummer. D’you think they can make an exception for me? My resting face is a smile.”
They did- in every place.
The honeymoon was an epoch for Chris to meet his fans from all over the world. If you had a dollar for every autograph he signed the entire getaway, you would have enough money to have your own jet.
Weirdly enough, Chris lost genuine pleasure to greet his global admirers and increasingly rushed the interactions.
“It’s okay to be more attentive to your fans, Chris.” you insist, with your head on his bare body, laying around somewhere on the warm Tunisian beach.
“Nah.” he differs with his hand scrubbing sand on your back,“I came on holiday with you, not them. I couldn’t leave you by yourself.”
Aw. You love your husband,“You’re right. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
He bought you anything that caught your eye. Clothes, hats, rings, ice cream, souvenirs.
Chris had also bought five cameras. He wasn’t letting a single moment of a scenery or pose go to waste.
Be prepared for the day when he eventually gets them all printed out and stuck in fresh albums and wants to reminisce with you.
He took you to the best restaurants, never settling for one less than five stars (maybe four if you persuaded him enough).
“To another exceptional night of our honeymoon!” he raises his glass of happiness.
You copy, both clinking and declaring cheers.
Going back to your accommodation, Chris would have you carried until the first descent onto the fine duvets.
Let’s just say that, by the time you do get back to Canada, both husband and wife’s necks have never been more wine red.

BIOGRAPHY
Always "Val," and never "Valerio Dizon"—unless it was his mother scolding him for staying out too late. Val was the kind of guy who made people feel at ease. Popular, good-natured, the one who’d help walk an old lady across the street without a second thought or share his lunch with a classmate who’d forgotten theirs. Up until high school, he never aspired to be anything more than what he was, a regular kid with a decent life in New Jakarta’s Marwar District.
Born to a single mother who ran the family bakery, Valerio’s Bake Shop, Val’s life followed a comfortable, if predictable, routine. The bakery was a local favorite, known for its warm, flaky pastries and the kind smile his mother greeted everyone with. For Val, the future seemed simple: he’d take over the bakery, maybe work part-time during college, and continue the family tradition. Ambition wasn’t something that had crossed his mind. Why would it? Life was normal. It was fine.
But even in his laid-back existence, he held an unwavering belief in justice. Though he was one of the popular kids, Val always made sure everyone was included, that no one felt left out. He’d step in when the neighborhood kids got too rough, making them apologize if they bumped into someone. Laws and order kept life safe, and that’s how Val liked it. Stable. Secure.
Until it wasn’t.
The robbery was a shock. A bakery of all places. The desperation in New Jakarta was growing, people were hungry—not just for food, but for survival. Val remembers running home, heart pounding, fearing the worst. The storefront window was shattered, glass littering the sidewalk, but his mother, though shaken, was unharmed. Relief washed over him, but reality punched him straight in the face—their safety had been an illusion, a fragile thing easily broken as the bakery’s window.
At the scene, Val’s eyes were drawn to an Overseer, an imposing figure clad in sleek armor, weapons glowing with the eerie light of Hextech crystals. The Overseer moved with authority, surveying the damage with a calm, focused demeanor. Val had never seen anything like it. The man approached him, asked if he was the owner’s son. When Val nodded, the Overseer placed a heavy, gloved hand on his shoulder. “Be strong,” he said, his voice steady. “Protect your mother. We won’t always be here.”
Those words struck something deep within Val. The Overseer’s presence, the power he wielded, and the responsibility he bore—it all crystallized in Val’s mind. He wanted to be strong enough to protect those he loved, to uphold the laws that kept people safe. For the first time, Val felt a drive, a purpose that went beyond the bakery and the simple life he’d always imagined.
From that day on, Val’s path shifted. With less than a year before his high school graduation, he poured himself into his studies, especially anything that would help him understand the law, justice, and the workings of the city. He trained his body, pushing himself to physical limits he’d never considered before. His mother supported him, proud of his newfound determination, even if it meant a different, bigger, future than she’d envisioned.
Val joined the Overseers as soon as he was able, climbing the ranks with a mix of hard work, innate talent, and that fierce belief in justice that had always been a part of him. He specialized in Hextech weaponry, just like the man he admired all those years ago. His titanium white gauntlets becoming his signature, earning him the nickname “The Marble Hand.”
Despite his rise, Val never lost that good-natured, approachable side. He was known for his fairness, his refusal to bend the rules, but also for his empathy. He argued for mercy when he believed people were victims of circumstance, remembering his own past and the desperation he had seen in the eyes of those who had turned to crime.
Now, as the Force Leader of the Overseers, Val is in a position of power he never sought but fully embraced. He sees himself in the new recruits, those young, eager faces that remind him of the boy he once was—the one who had no real ambition until the day his world was shaken. Val takes it upon himself to mentor them, to instill in them the same belief in justice that drives him. He’s seen the darkness in the city, but he’s also seen the light, and he’s determined to guide the next generation of law enforcers, and anyone else he can bring along, towards that light.
RELATIONSHIPS AND CONNECTIONS (More TBA)
Mother - Marigold Santos Dizon
Val had always admired his mom. Growing up, he was a bit of a brat—he can admit that now—but looking back, he feels a little sorry for the way he acted. It wasn’t until he got older that he realized the situation they were in: a single mom running a bakery by herself, keeping everything together with sheer willpower and ungodly early mornings. Val remembers how she would wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning to get the day’s stock of baked goods going, a routine that seemed as natural to her as breathing.
By the time Val was in high school, he couldn’t just watch her do it all alone. He started getting up early too, helping her out before heading off to practice. It wasn’t much, but he wanted to do his part. Those early mornings taught him perseverance, a trait he knows he inherited from her.
Now, as he climbs the ranks in the Overseers and dreams of a better future for both himself and the city, he wishes he could do more for her. Val hopes to see her retire soon, but he wonders if she could really let go of the bakery. It’s been her life’s work, her pride. Would she find fulfillment in retirement, or would she miss the routine, the sense of purpose it gave her?
One thing Val does know, however, is that she keeps asking when he’s going to get married. She says it doesn’t matter who, as long as he’s happy. Val finds her persistence amusing and endearing, a reminder that no matter how much his life changes, some things—like his mom’s unconditional love and prized pandesal recipe—will always stay the same.
Boyfriend - Santi Amarin-Zhao
The words were already spilling out of his mouth before he could think. He had just finished a routine line of questioning, and before Val knew it, his next question had him asking out New Jakarta’s most eligible bachelor and X Academy’s CEO on a date. Val’s heart nearly stopped as he realized what he’d done—he’d never fumbled like that before when asking someone out. He was about to apologize, to take it back, but then Santi said, “Sure.” Just like that.
They’ve gone on quite a few dates since then, and Val likes to think they’re going steady, exclusive even. But he can’t help noticing the walls Santi has put up. Their relationship isn’t public, Santi avoids any kind of PDA, and sometimes he feels just out of reach, even during late nights when it’s just the two of them in bed. It’s like Santi’s there, but not fully there.
Still, it doesn’t shake Val’s faith in him. He trusts Santi. They both want the same thing, right? For this city to be better, safer. Val tells himself that’s enough, even if getting closer to Santi feels like trying to touch something through glass.

Bangtan Sonyeondan: 2 Cool 4 Skool
Release date: June 12th 2013
Lead singles: No More Dream & We Are Bulletproof, pt. 2
This solidified the Hip-Hop status of the group. It was an album Grace didn’t expect to have many lines on and baby ARMY’s often question whether she was actually on it but you can hear her background vocals on all songs and she was featured in We Are Bulletproof, part two with her taking the last chorus after Jimin. This caught people’s attention as it wasn’t expected that she would rap, though it was clear she had some skills. With the vocal line, she harmonised.
For the clothes, there was a lot of black and printed clothing, lots of gold jewellery that were over the top. While it wasn’t her style, she stuck with gold rings and large hooped earrings that became her statement. Make-up was minimal but the eyes were dark with even darker eyeshadow. The actual clothes themselves seemed to swallow her figure and hide it from view, which would lead later down the line for Hobi and Taehyung to become her fashionistas.
There wasn’t a chance for a lot of screen time for her and there weren’t many chances for her to show off what dancing skills apart from her chorus part in Bulletproof Part Two where she had her chance to shine - and she played the part perfectly: cocky, ready to fight, ready to take on the world. This is what began to catch the attention of locals and fans - a woman, in front of seven boys, ready to fight to prove the band their worth.
The album had her feeling part of the group yet an outsider - seen for background vocals, sub-rapping and sub-singing. Never full a part of the song but always there. ‘Like’ was a perfect example - her vocals were always clearly heard but in the background. ‘Bulletproof Part Two’ was her full chorus time and it was a song she still loved, even to present time - whenever there was a chance to perform it, she was the first one to sign up for it.
Her relationship with the boys at this point was still awkward - especially with Jungkook. It was taking awhile for all of them to warm up to each other especially since she was in a completely different dorm to them down the corridor. But she was there every morning to wake them up or to make breakfast, make sure they were ready for the day. She’d be the last person to leave their dorm and the first person to arrive and this is where the ‘mother’ role came out to play.
There was a bit of hate in the beginning for being the only female among seven men and it was what she expected and readied herself for. The group got a lot of mixed reactions and reviews, coming from a small company and being so vocal against the norms of society. There was a small group of fans that actually preferred Grace to be a soloist, to shine on her own rather than having to share her and there was another group who preferred her not to be part of the group at all. Grace rolled with it all.
Facts:
Her British accent came through numerous times in interviews, causing her accent to trend on Twitter briefly.
Her hair was normally down, though she began to put it into ponytails which would later become one of her signature hairstyles
Very awkward around the guys in the BANGTAN BOMB videos and she rarely appears, unless with Namjoon or their manager
The shipping began between her and Seokjin
Didn’t like wearing makeup, would be the first one to remove it the moment the performance was over with. And would remove her false nails as soon as possible
Nervous bathroom breaks became a thing with her and Namjoon

TERESA MARGOLLES
Teresa Margolles’ exhibition, Muerte sin fin (2004) at Museum Für Moderne Kunst, uses the water used to wash human bodies in mortuaries in Mexico City as a material for her artworks. In a strange way like a necromancer, she takes this medium of anonymous fluid into forms that transcend the mortal plain. The bodies are of those who have died due to violence, drug use, unidentified bodies and traffic casualties, and their remains are part of a wider bureaucratic system that makes these people disappear from public consciousness.
The exhibition includes an installation of Margolles’ En el aire (2003) which features a main hall filled with bubbles made from this water mixed with soap. Referencing the Vanitas theme “homo bulla”, she commits the dead to flight, popping in the air as if they had never existed. Yet to pop on the audience’s clothes or skin is to make post life contact, being reconjured as glittering translucent spirits.
Another of her installation works is Aire (2003), similar to En el aire (2003) but where the water is put through a humidifier to fill the space with the particles of the deceased. Anyone entering the space is forced to become a part of the journey of these remains, breathing in the vapour of the anonymous dead, the living become the corporeal host and the remains become a body within a body.
In Margolles’ work, there is a constant questioning of the relationships between the living and the dead, memento mori and memento vivere. Viewers are reminded throughout that we are alive, and that death still touches us, that there is a post life but also a post death. The exhibition space becomes a place of mourning and grief for people otherwise unknown, a space of discomfort and unease, a place that is haunted by physical matter. I am interested in Margolles' work in regards to this working within the liminal states of physical death to relate to my ideas in my work and to feature in my Literary Review. These states of being where the individual themselves is deceased yet their remains linger in new forms of existence and purpose, essentially being placed within a physical state of flux, is a direct example of the liminality of death and death object. This relates to mourning jewellery, an object where their remains become an object that outlives their death and continues in the world of the living, and the works of Margolles follow the same state of liminality.

'By his own admission, awards season has been bittersweet for Andrew Scott.
Currently basking in a flurry of positive reviews for his starring role in a new Netflix adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr. Ripley, Scott recently collected the Critics’ Circle Theatre award for his remarkable performance in a contemporary rendering of Chekhov masterpiece Vanya.
But the occasion was tinged with sadness for the Irish star, 47, whose devoted mother Nora passed away with a 'sudden illness' in March - shortly before Mother's Day.
And Scott - who dedicated the award to her memory by telling audience members “she was the source of practically every joyful thing in my life” - admits he felt compelled to immerse himself in work following her recent passing.
'Well, you know, you have to — life goes on, you manage it day by day,' he told the Sunday Times.
'It’s very recent, but I certainly can say that so much of it is surprising and unique, and there is so much that I will be able to speak about at some point.'
A devoted follower of fashion away from screen and stage, Scott admits his love of clothes came from his mother and her passion for the arts.
'My mother was an art teacher, she was obsessed with all sorts of design,' he recalled. 'She loved jewellery and jewellery design.
'Anything that is visual, tactile, painting, drawing, is a big passion of mine, so I have tremendous respect for the creativity of designers.'
Despite the tragedy, Scott has attempted to maintain a positive attitude towards both his personal and professional life.
'I feel like, as a person, I am quite near my emotions,' he said. 'I cry easily and I laugh easily, and there is nothing more pleasurable to me than laughing.'
Nora's death was confirmed in a statement on March 9, with family members adding that she passed away on Thursday March 7 surrounded by her family at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin.
An obituary read: 'It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Nora Scott (née Boyle), beloved wife of Jim, mother of Sarah, Andrew and Hannah.
'Scott, Sandymount, Dublin, formerly Omagh Co. Tyrone, March 7th 2024 peacefully surrounded by her loving family and best friend Anne, in St Vincent's Hospital following a sudden illness.
'Nora will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Jim, her loving children Sarah, Andrew and Hannah.'
In 2018, Nora revealed Anthony Hopkins sent her 'more than three dozen red roses,' after finding out she was ill when speaking to Scott on the set of King Lear.
Hopkins, 86, starred in the BBC's Shakespeare adaptation as an ‘English Stalin’ with Scott playing Edgar - who becomes Lear’s secret protector.
She told RTE’s Ryan Tubridy at the time: 'There was probably more than three dozen red roses and attached to them was a little card from Anthony saying "Be well, sending hugs", and all sorts of things.'
'I was thrilled to get such a gift and for the kind thought that promoted it.
'Now I have recovered, I can enjoy these exquisite roses that grace our hall. It was such a beautiful gift.'
In January, Scott and his co-star Paul Mescal admitted they weren't too keen on their family members watching their new film, gay drama All Of Us Strangers.
The movie stars Scott as a screenwriter drawn back to his childhood home who enters into a relationship with a mysterious neighbour, played by Mescal, 27.
The film features several intimate scenes between the actors which the pair discussed during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
Asked if their families had seen the flick yet, Mescal said: 'With the Irish premiere, trying to allocate tickets to all the aunties and uncles is a tricky business.
'They have seen my bum before but there is a little more going on in this movie I would say!'
Scott added: 'I don't want to be there when my parents watch it!''

Melanie Hall Murder
A Cold Case from Bath UK
This is a case that my team are currently reviewing in hope that we can put out a documentary about it. This murder seems to have been committed in 1996 but the victim’s remains were not found until 2009. This murder has to date never been solved.
This is one case that we as a team believe can be solved and in fact, should have been solved a long time ago.
Melanie Hall was born on August 20th 1970 and disappeared on June 9th 1996 after a night out at the Cadillacs Nightclub in Bath, UK.
Melanie had graduated from from the University of Bath in in 1995 having achieved a degree in nursing. She went on to get work as a clerical officer at The Royal university Hospital in Bath.
On 8th June 1996 Melanie had made arrangements for an evening out with her boyfriend Philip Karlbaum and then spent the night at his home afterwards. Her mother dropped her off at Philip’s home amd it was from there that they set out with another couple to Cadillacs nightclub in Bath city centre.
During the course of the evening Philip apparently saw 25-year-old Melanie dancing with another male and as a result an argument ensued. He left the club upset and headed home. She was last seen sitting on a barstool at 1.10 am in the early hours of June 9th 1996.
There was an unconfirmed sighting of a woman arguing with a man between 1.45am and 2am on Old Orchard just around the corner from the nightclub. Whilst police say that they cannot rule out that the woman was Melanie but at the same time there is no way to confirm that it was her.
There is also a report of a male seen talking to a woman matching Melanie Hall’s inside the nightclub. He was described as white, around 27 years old, 5ft 10ins tall, medium build, dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, bushy eyebrows and clean shaven.
His clothes were described as black trousers, black shoes with a brown silk shirt. The person who gave the description could not be certain but it seems quite possible the male had a gold hooped earring in his right ear and a flashy gold watch on his wrist.
Despite a massive police operation Melanie was not found and she was declared legally dead by a court on November 17th 2004 but without her body being found
Now before we go any further it is right to day that it has been suggested that a serial sex offender who preyed on women in the Bath area between 1991 and 2000 could potentially have been responsible for Melanie’s disappearance and death but thus far this has never been confirmed.
Officers from Avon & Somerset Police have said that they cannot rule out that the ‘Batman rapist’ was responsible for Melanie’s murder. The rapist is known to have attempted to carjack a woman at knifepoint in the same area of Bath as the club where Melanie was last seen just a few hours before Melanie is believed to have been abducted.
The victim of the attempted carjacking was left wouded when she fought her attacker but managed to escape.
Coming back to Melanie Hall’s murder the night of her disappearance is a night that may stick in some people’s memory as it was the evening of the opening game of the Euro 96 football championships, England played Switzerland and drew 1–1.
Melanie was wearing quite distinctive clothes and shoes on the night that she disappeared namely a pale blue silk dress with a round neck, black suede mule shoes with straps across the front and an open toe, size 5 or 6, a cream single-breasted, long-sleeved jacket and a black satchel-type handbag. Her jewellery consisted of a Next watch with expanding bracelet and silver drop earrings.
She was also known to have had her Midland bank cheque book and cheque guarantee card with were in her handbag and have never been recovered.
Maybe you were in the club that night? Did you speak to or recognise Malanie Hall? She was a very pretty young lady with very distinctive blonde hair. Were you a can driver in Bath in 1996? Did you take Melanie and a male somewhere in the early hours of June 9th 1996?
Were you offered the items of jewellery to purchase? or even the high quality handbag?
If you know anything at all that could lead police to solve this heinous crime, please contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
If you are willing to discuss the case were a friend or colleague of Melanie and would be willing to speak to one of my research team then please get in touch.

Life update (15/01/23) with a few thoughts:
After we arrived back in the UK I headed back to uni for a week to have an intense study week with a couple of friends, finishing up a piece of coursework. Was a lot of work but also a lot of fun, as we spent a lot of evenings chatting together.
Back home and straight away had my (upper) wisdom teeth removed - thankfully only a local anaesthetic was needed and the whole thing was straightforward but it does mean I’ve spent the past few days on the painkillers and a bit out of it.
I now have a week until next term starts again (which will be my final term of education ever!). So I’m planning to spend time in the mornings prepping for our final big project, going over notes in one module that we’re examined on in March, and doing the never ending job applications (which involves chasing up an interview invite with a changed date). Also I wrote something that my lecturers want to publish in a uni journal so I must clean that up!
A few ideas have been bouncing in my mind. I want to create my “journal review” of 2022. I do one every year where I highlight achievements, awards, places I’ve been and activities I did. Always nice to reflect on how much has actually happened in the past 12 months. I also want to create a sort of physical booklet containing my favourite poems, but I’m not sure how (I have a commonplace book, but I want this to be more like printed out poems and then personal underlining and notes etc). A binder? Maybe actually creating my own booklet and using that? I want to make sure I can easily add on to it.
I also want to revamp my clothing style a bit. I do love the look I currently have, but I do want to jazz it up a bit. I have maybe a few too many turtlenecks. Add a bit of fun in there - a few different styles of tops, jewellery (especially rings!). Also a bit of a revamp with my hair, it’s currently very long (waist length) and whilst I do love the length and don’t see myself cutting it much, maybe a bit of change is needed. I also must make time to put it up in the mornings and find more fun hairstyles, it’s something I enjoy and am pretty decent at but have just been not doing. Maybe it does need a bit of a trim though. (I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest recently)
Final thought of the evening, re sport. Really missing my dance lessons, and finding it a struggle to get the energy to move without routine. I did go on a long walk with my mum through the hills and thoroughly enjoyed it, so might lean into that for the one week I have left until I can enjoy my dance classes again. Must stretch before then though because otherwise the first week back will be tough 😅
Anyway a happy new year to all of you out there, I’m wishing you all these very best 💫

Review of Jerffers' Medea Adaptation.
Disclamer: I am a student of the University of Hull blogging as part of my assessment for the module Drama, Conflict, and Identity. All views expressed here are my own and do not represent the university
A review of Jeffers' adaptation of Medea: This was televised in 1959. This production can be found easily on youtube - MEDEA (1959) JUDITH ANDERSON. This is an adaptation of the originally written Medea by Euripides from the 5th-century Ancient Greek Theatre. At the time this play was considered unorthodox and groundbreaking - to create catharsis for audiences to release their emotions of frustration through a play. This gives us the necessary context for a fuller understanding of the play we are reviewing - Jeffers’ Adaptation of Medea.
Jeffers’ adaptation of Medea uses technical differences from the original playwright of Medea to cater to its television audience. One example of this is the use of elevated stairs with several levels in this play adaptation. This aids with depth perception in the production as characters - specifically Medea herself interacts with characters from different steps and heights. This allows the characters to travel to and from each other creating a more open performance that seems more realistic to a viewer who would be watching the filming of the play rather than being in the audience. Furthermore, throughout the play the more powerful characters stand higher up on the set - especially at the end of the performance as Medea stands over a sobbing Jason - this depicts how this adaptation used these stairs to depict the more powerful characters. Moreover, this feeling of the audience walking closer and further away from the camera greatly helps to mirror the conventional use of ancient Greek theatres of the parodoi - a lengthy walkway that actors could use to move towards and from the audience. This adds depth and a more inclusive feeling to this television adaptation of Medea by mirroring ancient Greek theatre layouts with a camera and set work. This idea is further reinforced by Jeffers’ use of a door in the center of the set - mirroring the use of skene in ancient Greek cinema. This central door would have been used to hide characters offstage to increase the gory images and possibilities created by the imagination of the audience. This was achieved as they only heard the screams and horrors of Medea in the first act, rather than also seeing her character. This adds an almost psychological horror to the performance as the imagination of the viewer runs wild. This not only adds depth to this high-level performance of Medea but also showcases the actress's wide range of dramatic acting abilities through a wider mode of dramatic performance.
Moving onto how the actors are dressed in this performance of Medea; The costumes in this performance attempt to portray the conventional dresses of the ancient Greeks at the time of Medea’s setting. This is seen through long robes for both the male and female actors as well as what is presumably jewellery for those of higher social status - the type of precious metal however is difficult to determine due to the black and white recording of this adaptation of medea. Through the use of conventional ancient greek theatre clothing this adaptation of Medea doesn’t necessarily need to utilise the authentic greek masks of theatre. In the original showings of Medea - a Greek tragedy, there would only be 3 or 4 actors on stage at any time utilising masks to portray identity. The lack of mask use and more than four actors in Jeffers’ adaptation moves away from the conventional Greek theatre norm. This however calls for some interesting character interaction with more gon g on stage between Medea and other characters as well as a larger chorus on stage. This therefore allows for more in depth character interaction - allowing for an after paced performance and a more in depth exploration of medea’s character as she interacts with more characters at once.
I'd like to further discuss the ideas surrounding conflict and identity that are portrayed in this adaptation of Medea. Upon watching the 4th act of this adaptation we see an interaction between Medea, Jason and their two sons - all of which are on stage at the same time during this scene. This scene sets up perfectly to release catharsis for one of the ending scenes of its production at around 1:34:00. In this heart wrenching scene we see Medea give a soliloquy of her outrage and hatred for Jason, followed by the revealing of her dead sons. This production carefully crafted an intense reveal for the death of the sons with the use of a large door in the middle of the scene - very similar to a skeen in the original playwright of medea. The large doors centre to the camera open to reveal the dead bodies of both sons as Jason writhes in pain.
This scene explores issues of identity and conflict as the atypical mother identity of Medea is portrayed. This can be inferred by what can only be described as a direct juxtaposition to a nurturing and loving mother as she strikes down her own children in her youth. Thai not only allows for the audience to release catharsis but makes the audience question their own identity as they consider just how easy it was for, what was previously a loving mother, to commit such a heinous act. This therefore creates a conflicting identity among the character of Medea - therefore opening up connotations of nature vs nurture, making the audience wonder whether evil is inherited or nurtured into them This scene overall provided great insight and questioning into how identity is created and by asking - why is Medea seemingly so evil?
The ideas surrounding conflict are also prevalent in this scene, as we see Medea and Jason arguing throughout. Conflict is presented throughout this production through these characters arguing over faithfulness and love - with this scene providing a climax, ultimately ending with Jason begging for mercy to see his dead sons. Contetxally as an ancient Greek tragedy, this idea would be highly atypical, completely changing the gender roles and narratives surrounding power in a relationship with the man begging for mercy at the hands of his wife. This changes the narrative of gender roles whilst also providing meaningful insight into what conflict is - suggesting it's both an emotional and physical battle rather than just a physical one. Applying this production, the idea surrounding gender roles are much more accepted as women and men being equal – however, the idea surrounding conflict being a battle of mentality is still very prevalent and may give the audience an insight into what conflict really is and an insight into true hardship.
Overall both themes of identity and conflict are shown in this production as a whole and, specifically in the closing scenes of this production. This adaptation mold well to the new technology of television (which is how it was shown to audiences) whilst also staying true to the strength surrounding Euripedea’s original production o Fmedea - such as the use of a skene and the cultural questions surrounding the power of gender conflict and identity. This production is overall a great watch and really provides insight and entertainment at the same time, furthermore, this may serve as a useful resource when studying Mdea as the play is easier to visualize when being watched rather than read.
