From Shoreditch's heart to Wimbledon’s green,

The intrepid fox ventures, unseen.

Through leafy paths where quiet whispers flow,

Beside the old seaplane's resting place,

With a partner, moves with silent grace.

Skunks, Part 1: Wildlife is all around us, even in a large city like Hamilton. Most of us don't encounter Skunks very often except as roadkill because they're most active at night. A program by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is currently underway in the City of Hamilton to vaccinate Skunks and Raccoons, and to do so they're live-trapping these nocturnal animals in people's yards. It can be a great help to prevent the spread of Rabies through wild populations and to domestic animals. Just below a lively restaurant sits a system of equally active tunnels. Before even entering, I came across a possum and a few cats. It was the cats who led me to the entrances. One was flooded so I couldn’t get inside. The other was home to a colony of cats. It was one of the few disgusting tunnels because of the cat feces. Most I enter are pretty clean. If you look in one of the pics of the tunnels you’ll see the glowing eyes of the cat that brought me there. There were at least 30 that I could see, most of them hanging around outside. This system also connects to an earlier one I shared that I explored with my son. That means these systems- which stretch pretty far- are home to raccoons as well.
