Cinderella at command part 1

Meanwhile in space Commander Cinderella has issued a red alert as the ship has been attacked by the Brainiac. Commander Cinderella: lieutenant Commander Ariel what is going on who's attacking us and why. Lt Commander Ariel: I don't know commander our scans are reading something weird in that ship. we've lost communication with the landing party.

Ariel: "The ship looks like a huge brain with tentacles but the strangeness is the readings. According to our readings that ship has life from all of the zeta quadrant but it's as if they have been shrunken."

Commander Cinderella: "What? That doesn't make sense. How can an entire species have been shrunken? And what do you mean 'all of the zeta quadrant'?' That sector covers countless species and planets. How is it possible that Brainiac has them all on one ship?"

Ariel: I'm not sure commander. I dont understand it myself. I mean thats it seems that our enemy has been collecting parts from all over the zeta quadrant and we need to stop it. I'm not sure I'll keep investigating.

Commander Cinderella: "Interesting. Do we know who or what is controlling the ship? Could it be a new species that we have encountered? Or a new piece of technology that we've never seen before? Either way, it's important that we take care of this threat, as it could prove to be a danger to not only the USS Fairytale, but the entire Alpha Quadrant."

Ariel: "Why the Alpha Quadrant? We are in the Zeta Quadrant, the new one we just discovered two months ago."

Commander Cinderella: "You're right, I misspoke. I meant to say the Zeta Quadrant, thank you for your correction. It's important to remember that we are in the new Zeta Quadrant and that we still don't know much about the civilizations and species that inhabit it. The ship could be controlled by a new species or technology that we have never encountered before, so we must be careful in our approach."

Ariel: "I have a theory about that, Commander Cinderella. I believe that the ship is just shrinking the main city of each planet in the Zeta Sector and possibly destroying the rest of the planet."

Commander Cinderella: "Intriguing. Why do you think this is the case, Lieutenant Commander Ariel? And how can we be sure that they are not shrinking entire planets and civilizations?"

Lt Commander Ariel: "I believe that because we lost communication with the captain the moment that ship showed up. What if she was in one of Krypton's cities and it's no longer there? Plus, if you take a look at the planet, it looks like there is a huge crater where the city used to be."

Commander Cinderella: "Hmmm. That is concerning. If the ship was able to shrink an entire city within seconds, it's possible that it could do the same thing to an entire planet as well. We need to figure out a way to stop them."

Ariel: it's possible but it doesn't look like it wants the entire planet just one city am not sure why it would abduct one city. Commander Cinderella.

The ships weapon fire.

Commander Cinderella: Lieutenant Aurora why did you fire at the moon?

Aurora: "I didn't fire at the moon. I lost control and the ship is not responding to my command."

A symbol appears on the ship: a triangle with one circle on top and two on the bottom, connected to the triangle.

Aurora: "I… I don't know what's happening. There's a symbol on the ship. A triangle with one circle on top and two on the bottoms, connected to the triangle."

Commander Cinderella: "Okay, we need to investigate this. Ariel, can you analyze that symbol on the ship and see if you can find out what it means?"

Ariel: "Commander that's a negative."

Cinderella: "WHAT? WHY?"

Ariel: "The Fairytale is not responding to anything! I can't even get the doors of the turbo lift open! No wonder why it's not responding to my commands."

Commander Cinderella: "We need to investigate this further. Lieutenant Aurora, is there anything you can do to try to get the ship under control and restore communications?"

Aurora: "It's as if the Fairytale has a mind of its own. The only thing I can think of would probably get us all killed."

Commander Cinderella: "Well, what is it?"

Aurora: "We have to shut everything down."

Ariel: "ARE YOU INSANE!?"

Commander Cinderella: "What do you mean 'shut everything down'? Can you elaborate on that?"

I ran a show called Roma Extravaganza when I played my Romani wise woman character. We would tell fairy tales and make people act them out on our stage. My job was to tell the story as it was written, and either Peter or Shannon would interrupt, tell me I’m wrong, and then make “corrections”.

Thats how we got Beauty and the Beast Who Wears Assless Chaps. It was hilarious. I never know what they would throw at me.

We had a box of props with random crap that we’d use. Yellow fishnet for blonde hair, wooden clogs for Cinderellas shoe, etc.

One prop was an old Chinese food menu. It’s a rollable scroll thing and one side is plain white so it works great as something to pretend to read for the audience.

But the other side still had the Chinese food options. It always made me laugh.

that pic of johnny that chip anon said made him look like he dual wields swords (which i totally see by the way). to me its giving regal vibes. like i want to say prince charming (i wrote that and all i could think of was shrek, but like thats so not the prince charming vibes i was thinking), but at the same time also kinda cinderella. which i dont understand and last time i checked she didnt have a sword.

anyways, johnny being like the son of the monarch, i want to say heir to the throne but maybe not as i feel like hed also suit being a knight and i feel like thats a bad career path if he were. due to his parent being the monarch, he obviously would have had the best education in every field. his area of expertise however is fencing. hed totally be the kingdoms best swordsman, a fact that makes him quite the catch if i do say so myself.

hed also be so well loved by the entire kingdom. the elders love how well mannered and respectful he is. and with that face and how much of a flirt he is (bringing it back to himbo johnny vibes) its no surprise his peers love him. do they wanna be him, or be with him 🤷‍♀️ we may never know. the children would adore him too, it wouldnt matter if they were noble or commoners hed treat them all equally. im picturing him holding little sword fighting lessons every weekend to teach the children how to properly use a sword (free of charge, ofcourse). hed also be kind of like the cool big brother figure to them, definitely would let them call him johnny instead of prince or sir (or whatever the correct title would be).

drama if his sibling, the heir to the throne, wasnt exactly the most kind hearted (or competent), and the people would prefer the next ruler to be johnny instead. -🪃

See i just saw someone say cinderella originated in Egypt only to be corrected that its from China-i wasnt aware the other one is a greek story that takes place in egpyt thats really interesting! I just learned about all of this yesterday after seeing a Persian person comment on the Indian fancast for repunzel noting where the story actually came from-it makes alot of the worldbuilding in EAH specificly brothers grimm more ironic

Nothings funnier to me then learning that most of the fairytales credited to brothers grimm dont even belong to them-and many of them actually came from different non eroupean cultures

been thinking about cinder a lot recently, after rewatching v8 for the first time (following watching the entire series with two new sets of eyes.)

cinder to me is a character who has time after time, a chance to run away, to get out and never look back and live an actual fulfilling life. despite it, she gets locked into this path of hatred and power, because thats what set her on in the first place. as a corruption of the cinderella story, she’s really interesting. she sort of feels like her prince charming isn’t so much a person, but instead the maiden abilities. they give her a purpose, a physical manifestation of the power she craves, much like how getting with prince charming gives cinderella a place as royalty, above the stepsisters who abused her.

even when the huntsman trains her, we need to look at the fact of how he could’ve come into cinder. he’s seen as a noble, heroic figure but he still goes through the effort to take residence in a Racist Hotel. so even in his case, he’s not even a person who could probably have been trusted yet either. you could also bring up his hesitance for cinder to get away from an abusive place of living and his insistence on following rules which eventually lead her to murder through self-defense is a show of his moral code being too strict and almost uncaring for cinder. after all, murder through self defense was already shown to be a correct thing for blake and yang to do to adam, and in his cases his physical attacks on blake was when she was able to defend herself, leaving cinder in an even more deserving position.

however, the huntsman decided he wouldn’t try to reconcile with cinder, deciding she was already corrupt. his death by her hands taught her that you can’t trust anyone unless you have power. the idea that “no one ever loved you” hits harder the more you think about her, especially when you remember her relationship with emerald. she used to devote herself endlessly to cinder, putting her life and self on the line to protect her constantly. and when she realized that cinder wouldn’t be working alongside her, and that salem was a lost cause, she did what cinder never got to do.

Ok but imagine Cinderella... with a twist. Where oc is in love with the prince (who is 100% Joon in my eyes) and has been for a long time. Like they were kid friends bc their parents were friends and neighboring kingdoms. And she grows up thinking her and the prince will get married bc he’s not interested in anyone...so she's the obvious choice... right? And even though she’s never told him her feelings and has no idea if he even feels the same, she's secure in her feelings and their long term friendship.

And when his ball is announced oc is excited but also very nervous bc what if he didn’t choose her. But she was so sure he would. He’s even joked (multiple times through the years) how if he never finds himself a wife, he'll steal her away so that at least they’d always have each other. And...! Its off to a great start. He wont look at any of the women. He sticks only to oc. Makes stupid jokes about the stupid ball. Except he dances with ppl bc thats the polite thing to do. But still. He sticks to her. And then.... and then Cinderella shows up.

Oc can do nothing but stand by as she watches her prince fall in love with a stranger. Then the girl runs away. bc cinderella dUH. and he asks oc to help him find her bc she’s his best friend. duUH. 

And cinderella is so kind and so beautiful and oc can't even bring herself to hate cinderella especially after hearing about all the abuse she’s endured living with her stepmother. Anyway. Oc never marries bc if it's not him she doesn't want it. And he always worries over her, even well into old age, and she hates it but she loves it too. Could never tell him no. And it’s just not a happy ending for her. But at least her prince is happy with his Cinderella ;w;

Correction: bc happiness is not measured by whether ur love is reciprocated or not lol. She does live a happy and fulfilled life. It’s just not shared with joon :c not in the way she’s always wanted :c

dad!dean and baby jack hcs

alright everybody strap in this is gonna be a long post

- okay so FIRST OF ALL, jack decides his own last name once he’s old enough, because cas and dean didn’t want to force him into one. this is jack’s trans arc: choosing his last name. just a fun joke for yall. anyways he cannot decide so he ends up hyphenating. hyphenating EVERY LAST NAME of every person he loves

- jack kline-leahy-novak-singer-winchester walks up to 1st grade with his little monogrammed backpack and Every Other Parent just has to take a pause

- (on official documents, he’s jack novak-winchester. he cant fit all the letters :( makes him sad)

- when he gets a little older, he decides he’s going to combine all the last names into one. this takes him Weeks because he has very specific thoughts on the personality of each letter. dean is Confused but cas gets it (”a’s a very tricky letter to wrangle”)

- okay i have personalities in my head for numbers so i think jack has that w letters and so he’s like “i’m gonna take CH from winchester because if not then WI will be jealous and-” dean voice son what the fuck does that mean

- dean is So Nervous about being a dad because he doesn’t want to continue the cycle his dad started, so he’s hypervigilant about everything he says and does with jack

- the first time he hold him, dean refuses to move an INCH because he’s so worried about screwing it up

- when jack takes his first steps, they’re towards dean. and when he starts to fall, dean is there to catch him

- jack’s first word is “daddy?” quickly followed by “papa!” dean smiles so wide his face hurts

- (dean is dad/daddy, cas is papa. these are the vibes in my Heart so they are correct)

- (sam is upset because he was trying to manipulate jack into having “sammy” as his first word. “no ice cream for you now, jack. no, don’t pout, i TOLD you that-”)

- for jack’s fifth birthday, they go to disneyland and dean tells him and cas that they have to carry their own bags the whole time because he’s not gonna carry everything for them-

- approximately an hour later, the trio’s in line for the dumbo ride and dean is carrying his child’s backpack, his fanny pack, and cas’s backpack too. he complains but secretly enjoys it because it makes him feel loved (acts of service is his love language)

- jack wants to wear a princess dress to school and dean is Conflicted because on one hand, he’s still trying to learn from and overcome his own issues with masculinity and the voice of j*hn in his head is like “this is a BOY he cannot wear that” but on the OTHER hand, that’s his kid, thats his baby, jack can do whatever he wants dean loves him oh so much,,,,,

- in the end, jack wears the dress to school and dean has the revelation that he can do that too which leads to him and jack in matching cinderella dresses at the 7-11

- alright thats all i have for now i may add to this someday though because <3 dean winchester Deserves children and jack is the cutest child ever

The nickname is bc once every week he brings Rose a big colorful lollipop, which she loves bc she never got one before

He goes to the store every time saying "hes buying something for his daughter", and when the shopkeeper tries to convince him to buy smth else he refuses bc he knows she likes this one lollipop

She has the important part in her day where she listens to music, and when she has her lollipop she does it while eating it

She listens to one song (which I always hc as Two Time by Jack Stauber), and its a song about cheating and heartbreak and even though Lena loves seeing Rose happy she cries a bit bc it reminds her of how P*ter dumped her

Rose actually tried giving her Mama her lollipop to help but Lena refused it

Rosie also has very good memory, so Martins in for a time xd

Just imagine reading to her and she always corrects him xd

And also she knows very much about polish mythological creatures and folk tales!

DCOM Rankings #84: Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure

So when going into this movie, I figured it would be a cutesy, little girl-type movie, direct-to-video sequel that’s just something for the kiddies to watch, and just not very good quality. You know the type I’m talking about (Cinderella 2 I’m looking at you, basically most of the Disney direct to video sequels, but also direct to video kids movies in general)

Long story short, my hunch about this movie was totally correct....but objectively it was a good movie anyway.

It took me awhile to finish it because the story doesn’t really grab me personally, but I cannot deny that the movie had excellent pacing, great characters, one of the most popular Disney channel characters of all time as the lead, and the logic all pretty much makes sense, except for a few understandable things.

So let’s get into it!

First the flaws:

- because this is a direct-to-video sequel type movie, I’m gonna be a little bit nicer to it because I had different expectations going in. Though I thought the idea of having the dogs audition for the role in the show instead of the owners was a little weird. And having them fall in love was kind of a useless plot line. They didnt have to do that in my opinion. I feel like that is such a tropey thing.

- and this is just my personal opinion and not so much a flaw, the entire premise of the movie could have been at least little more mature. I felt that this was all dumbed down for the little kiddies. Like, the HSM series I feel like really spoke to pre-teens and teenagers and was slightly more mature. This movie feels like an episode of my little pony (but an episode of the good series, I will say). But yeah I had more enjoyment watching HSM 1 and 2 than this movie.

-Just a quick comment on the logic. I guess with her money she could afford anything in NYC but the film student?? Those apartments look huge still, even if they’re studios with the bathtub literally in the kitchen.

-and that’s another thing, the film student may be hot, but I felt like the movie had a missed opportunity to focus more on him as a character and their relationship. I don’t even remember his name! But it seems like all he does is admire her and want to follow her around and tell her how great she is while being a genuinely nice guy. Like, sharpay, are you gonna ask about him at any point? Relationships are a two way street, and I feel like the film student is being taken advantage of. But whatever, if he doesn’t mind not being the center of things and she loves it, maybe they’re great together.

-Lastly, the villain was just a little ridiculous at the end, like they really had to spell it out that she was the bad guy right before they revealed her to everyone. Idk, I guess it bugs me when villains start out subtle and then by the end they are so theatrically evil that it’s hard to believe them. And I’m mostly saying this for live action movies where the villains are just regular people and not like “super villains”, those are where I love to watch them be theatrical. But I guess this is a movie about Broadway so I’ll give it a tiny pass.

Okay done with the flaws, let’s go to the good stuff!

- yes while the premise of the movie is not exactly my cup of tea, this movie is really well executed and was still a relatively easy watch! The logic was mostly really sound, and the pacing was near excellent! Everything seemed to flow into the next thing and character choices and motivations are really logical. I was honestly pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. For a girly cheap direct-to-video sequel, this is some of the best you’re gonna get.

-Sharpay really did deserve her own movie and I’m so glad she had the spotlight for once, and it was really cool to see her character grow when she gets a taste of her own medicine while also getting a new backbone. It’s so satisfying! She’s not like other Disney channel antagonists, she’s really enjoyable to watch and there’s a lot more to her than just being a mustache twisting villain. She just wants to be a Broadway star and you kinda need to have a backbone if you want to compete in that world. She’s driven, full of confidence, and turns heads whenever she walks in a room. But she’s not evil.

- the guy main character is so hot...I wish I remembered his name....but he was the cinnamon roll none of us deserved. But I did think that he and sharpay had a decent amount of chemistry. More than many of the DCOM’s I watched recently thats for sure.

-I didn’t really mind that this movie wasn’t a full musical because I think it would have been overkill. I did like the songs that were in the movie, except maybe for the beginning song, it just needed more omph!

This review isn’t going to be super long. But I was sure I would hate this movie and I ended up really liking the execution of it. People knew what they were doing when they made this movie, they’re like “don’t fuck this character up” and they literally did the opposite. I love sharpay even more because of this movie. Her eventual breakdown is understandable AND necessary for her to grow and it’s just beautiful to watch. Like I said, it’s told in the context of a little girl movie, and the script and direction probably had something to do with that, which was a turn-off for me. But honestly I would recommend this to any fan of the HSM series if they haven’t seen it yet. If nothing else, its a really cute movie with cute dogs in it. And a hot boy. Need I say more?

I’m gonna give this an A- NOT BECAUSE I HATE IT, but personally I don’t see myself watching this again, yet I can’t deny how objectively good it is. It’s going to the top of my A- list for sure. I think an A- is still a really good grade considering I was so ready to give this a B or C. Don’t let my dislike for certain parts of the movie keep you from wanting to see it.

Okay, the next movie is our 3rd? Animated DCOM! I can’t wait for this one because I know I’m pretty much already gonna love it. This is definitely the last one I’ve seen all the way through, so it will be a bittersweet review. See you then!

so kat and i got lit to cinderella 2015 as is our tradition, This Time With Social Isolation, and i ranted at her about something i want to try to talk a little bit about

first of all, that the movie implicitly and the novel explicitly make it clear that like. ella reads plato and shakespeare and that’s Good. the tremaines dont and that’s Bad. there’s this particular value system embedded in how they’re depicted and contrasted against each other thats basically all about how unintellectual and stupidly evil the tremaines are because they don’t value what ella values, and that’s... wrong. im saying this as a person with an english degree, i have plenty of friends who don’t read or care about shakespeare, and i find them to be lovely people who enrich my life. this value system is not correct.

there’s also this value system at play when it comes to how the characters communicate. the tremaines, especially margarethe, play by social rules and that’s Bad. ella doesn’t play by social rules and that’s Good. ella cuts through the bs and tells it like it is (politely) and that she has the clear-headedness to do that is great, but it doesn’t actually make the tremaines inherently fake or worse people because they don’t do that. playing by the rules is a way of keeping yourself alive, especially for women. that margarethe is socially adept and manipulative is a survival technique for living under patriarchy, and her passing that on to her daughters is her trying to ensure that they will live well.

to that point. ive talked a lot over the years about how margarethe socializes. that she is manipulative and cunning, and extremely gifted in either breaking social rules when she chooses, or in speaking deftly in social codes in order to communicate her meaning without breaking rules. ultimately, that’s how she expresses herself. and, a bit like the social contract idea i described before, when she uses a social code she is in a sense throwing a line to the other person in the expectation that they will catch it. she is trying to speak to them, in her own, particular language. if they don’t grab the line, they are rejecting her attempt to communicate, a bit like if you put your hand out to someone to shake and they didn’t take it.

the moment when she comes to the house for the first time and tells ella’s father, “you did not say your daughter was so beautiful,” this is her speaking in a social code. it is not a deeply personally meaningful statement. she’s saying something as a way of expressing to ella’s dad, i’m here, i’m looking at the world you live in, i’m stepping into it now. and his reminder of ella’s mother is as though he took the line she cast and dropped it--he is not responding in kind, he is not answering her in code, he is not speaking to her in her own language. or if he is, he’s saying, yes, you’re here now, but this world isn’t yours. that’s why her eyes shut down so spectacularly in that scene, like a wall’s just gone up between them. she tried, and whether he really meant to do it or not, he didn’t.

margarethe is not being spoken to in her own language. and she tries, at the beginning, to speak her language with ella and ella’s dad, even if they don’t recognize or choose to not understand what she’s trying to do. and there is absolutely nothing inherently wrong in this difference in communicative values, except that the story tries to frame one as innately bad, or on some level devoid of any value at all, and the other as innately good.

Julia’s Answer: The Agincourt Bride, The Tudor Bride, First of The Tudors, Red Rose White Rose, and The Tudor Crown, historical fiction books all by Joanna Hickson that I highly recommend. The Imperial Harem and Empress of The East. Biographies by Leslie Peirce that are great if you’re interested in the Ottoman Empire in the 16th and 17th century. Devdas by Sarah Chandra Chattopadhyay is also an option. I feel it gives an insightful look into India at the turn of the century. Katherine by Anya Seton is fantastic! In the Anne Boleyn area, (which I like to say I specialize in lol) ,The Boleyn King Trilogy by Laura Andersen, and it’s spin-off series The Tudor Legacy trilogy. The Creation of Anne Boleyn by Susan Bordo is a wonderful non fiction book and a must read, imo. Had The Queen Lived Duology by Raven A. Nichols is a non fiction book written like a biography. The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn by Eric Ives, a groundbreaking book is a must!Gabrielle’s Answer: Historic fiction wise: Picnic at Hanging Rock, Gone with the Wind, The Kitchen God’s Wife (beware this follows a story that is absolutely life changing and so eloquent but there is TW material in it; it ends happy but you gotta go through a lot to get there), The Prince by Machiavelli, JANE EYRE,  A Room with a View  

I’m also a fan of ‘beach’ romances, some of which are ‘bodice-rippers’ which means definitely not PG and also not very “politically correct” so TW beware (I will try to right TW because not all of them are like that but this is based off of my very human memory):  Secret Fire by Johanna Lindsey (TW), My Lord Conqueror, the Black Lyon (not 100% sure but TW), Lord of War: Black Angel, Ondine by Heather Graham, The Prize by Julie Garwood ~ actually anything by Julie Garwood TBH and i’m pretty sure while there may be one or two nsfw scenes thats in the context of a llong novel and they’re all tasteful and romantic from what I know ; definitely for the fan of a classic romance novel, it doesnt come across cheesy or anythingHistoric Non-fiction - this is gonna have a lot of war related material just because im looking to specailize in war crimes as part of human rights law: On Grand Strategy, Meditations (by Marcus Aurelius the roman emperor), The Art of War by Sun Tzu (another book written in the B.C. eras)

The Laws of War, The Laws of Power, The Laws of Human Nature - anything by Robert Greene (he does a lot of subjects like that, seduction, etc. ) is both insightful and rich with historic context and examples, and then interrpertations of said historical events, its really good and goes across all eras and places in the world

Fascism by Madeleine Albright (half-memoirs/bibliography), Not All Dead White Men: Classics and Misogyny in the Digital Age, We Were the Lucky Ones (a biography set in WWII), Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter, Chinese Cinderella: The True Story of an Unwanted Daughter (both are memoirs that are eloquent and moving)

This is so true though. One of the most insulting things my sperm donor ever said to me was, 

“We had a great relationship until you had some behavior disturbance at 5 years old”

...so, my entire personality and independent thought is just a “behaviour disturbance” to you? You think my judgement hasnt improve one bit in the last 20 years? you think the truest most discerning version of me is like, a baby, and not a full grown adult who understands statiatics and politics and science?

I literally dont recall any time when I had positive feelings toward him. One of my earliest memories is thinking to myself at like 2 years old “OMG, im just going to be like Cinderella.” my mom told me to be nice to him and let him touch me so i kinda did when I was very young, but thats only cause wasnt worth the trouble of telling him to fuck off. id get in trouble if i did. 

I always remember being relieved when he was away working and stressed when he came home. Always. other kids get all happy and excited when “Daddy’s home”, I scurried out of sight. 

He started beating and terrorizing me alot more once I started school tho,  so if there was any change at that age it would be due to his own damn abuse.

I’m so glad that my memory goes relatively far back so I remember actually enjoying my existence. 

I always believed that he basically got this alternate imaginary stepfordt daughter in his head, but he couldnt have given me more explicit confirmation...
