If you were playing a super sincere classic fantasy rpg about traveling the world with a party of friends having a long adventure to defeat the Demon King (or whatever) would you want the ending to keep playing it straight, or have some kind of sad/dark twist that re-contextualizes the whole adventure? (ie Undertale true end, In Stars and Time, Omori (sort of)) And how do you feel about other classic rpgs? (Old Final Fantasy, Golden Sun, Chronotrigger, Secret of Mana...)

So in this, is Janus not the Fiendlord? The demon king is mentioned, did chrono and his party face off against Magus, and then while in zeal recruit young magus?

Oh! Hello Anon! Echoes in Time is a sequel to @zeal-ascendancy in which Janus never became Magus. Instead, he grows up in Zeal until around his 15th birthday before the fall of Zeal occurs. He joins Crono and the others instead of being thrown to the Middle Ages. The Demon King mentioned repeatedly in Echoes was Ozzie. Without Magus to reign in his psychotic nature, Ozzie started his war sooner and much more brutally. I highly recommend reading the first part over on Archive of Our Own (LINK).

There's a lot of other changes thanks to this being an AU fic. I hope you've been enjoying the story.

I have always wondered what kind of man King Zeal was. I assumed him to be a kind and gentle king (which is where Schala got her kindness from). Queen Zeal seems like she’s always been firm but loving mother.

(I know that there was a fan game that brought King Zeal to life)

And as some of you know, I love redesigning outfits and looks of the Chrono Trigger cast so I decided to take some inspiration from the Russian royal family for King and Queen Zeal while I decided to blend elements of Zelda’s dress with Schala’s original robes for Schala’s new look.
