Would it be fucked up to write about Chronic Wasting Disease(on deers) but make it Yandere! Alastor. Highkey inspired by Lovesick! Wally Darling.
TW: It's YANDERE and maybe horror like?
The more the disease develops the more boney and ill-looking Alastor gets. Wasting away in his room as he tries to find a cure for this disease, unwilling to show his face to the hotel members with how messed up he looks right now, drooling and skinnier than he has ever been, ears drooping low on his head, he doesn't have enough energy to perk them back up.
Even all through what has been happening to him, the smile on his face never falters, granted, he could never stop even if he wants to. The disease will never let him drop the grin on his face.
Enter you, a trusted member of the Hazbin Hotel, and a good friend to the Radio Demon before his isolation. The princess of hell has been concerned after a month of no contact from Alastor, she has been trying to get him out of his room but all she gets in return are incoherent mumbles and even growling. So, she assigned you to take care of Alastor during that whole month, her being too busy to focus on him.
You've been leaving him food outside his room, he never ate them so you resorted to asking Rosie to bring you demon meat or venison, he ate them but not alot. However when you left the food in it's raw state, as suggested by miss Rosie, he didn't leave any leftovers after that.
For the past month that's the routine that you fell into, wake up, eat breakfast, bring Alastor his food, try to talk to him while he's eating-- you never get any responses, then leave. One time though, you were a bit late in bringing him his food, and as you bent down to leave the meat, the door burst open and you screamed in surprise, dropping the food and crawling backwards against the wall. The hand that snatched the meat was too fast, too boney, and too sharp.
The door didn't close though and through the gap you can see a single red eye peering through it. It looked frantic, pupils dilated, shaky. Why are the pupils shaped like a heart...?
"I...scared you...? I'm sorry, I'm sorry...Imsorryimsorryimsorryimsorry--," Alastor's demonic voice mumbles as the door creeps open. You ran away before he could fully open it.
That was a week ago, ever since then you tried to be on time. Today though, things went differently, not only did he grabbed the meat, he also grabbed you. Now you're laying on the ground shivering in fear as the deer demon lays on top of you, nuzzling onto your neck, the drool soaking your shirt.
"You're here...Yes... It doesn't hurt anymore, oh my darling... I was so sick for so long... I was trying to find the cure to heal me... but oh...," he sighs, gripping you tighter, "You were the cure all along! It was so close to me and I didn't even know it! It has always been you...!"
"Every time I thought about you, it hurt less, and every time you were outside my door bringing me food like a good mate. The pain was gone...! But why would you leave every time? Don't you know you have to stay with your mate? Your husband?"
"Hmmm... Maybe if you keep taking care of me, I'll be healthy enough to go outside our room! And we can go on dates! Yes... That would be lovely..." He croons, pulling away from your neck and looking down at you, his heart shaped eyes glowing in the dark.
What the hell happened to Alastor?

Leafstar X Sandstorm X Echosong
My favorite rarepair for Sandstorm- and possible AU where she joins SkyClan as their deputy instead of returning to ThunderClan.
Manga Echosong seemed like she had a crush on Leafstar and there is a page where Echosong comforts her after a disagreement with Billystorm and they're climbing up a tree together and Leafstar is literally like 'just for a moment Echosong made me forget all about Billystorm...' GAY
Sandstorm literally named one of her daughters after Leafstar- and personally like the idea that Squirrelflight is named after her nickname for Echosong because they both have a squirrely tail.
And Sharpclaw sucks as a deputy so I think Sandstorm would simply do a better job and give us the sapphic polyamorus power triad we deserve.
A bookmark from a zine I joined a few years ago that fell through on production- realized I never posted the art. Designwise I thought it would be cute if all three characters were based off different animals so we have Leaf = Deer, Sand = Lion, and Echo = Squirrel.
Anyway, I've been meaning to reread Firestar's Quest and the other SkyClan books set in the original gorge to develop this idea further but still haven't gotten to it- still with all the rarepair doodles I've been doing thought I'd jot some thoughts down somewhere.
Misc HC -
Sandstorm - trans woman, bisexual - has the same red tail as her dad Redtail. Runningwind is also her dad.
Echosong - trans woman, lesbian - has chronic pain as a munchkin cat with scottish fold ears; its given her greater empathy for her patients but also an understanding of her limitations.
Leafstar - nonbinary, lesbian or bisexual? - In the design process I thought she might have a bit of savannah cat blood, but very distant.

Lyric as a character
With everyone interested in Vox and Al having a kid, I have taken it upon myself to officially make a small sheet for Lyric. Might draw her later. Never know
Lyric ranks above Hellborn but ranks just below overlords as the daughter of Vox and Alastor.
Lyric is the only child of any of the sins and is considered royalty like Vox is
Her title is Princess Lyric, and Vox is Prince Vox, or they're both just your majesty
Lyric can sing and loves to sing! She can control radio waves like Alastor and attention fuels her powers as well
Lyric has deer ears and antennas. She also has vitilgo, and she inherited Vox's heterochromia, so she has one red eye and one cyan eye. She also has sharp teeth and a shark tail. It was discovered that Vox could create a whole new species of electric hellborn sharks
She did not inherite her father's mind control abilities
Velvette, Niffty, and Emily are more like her aunts than her sisters
Papermint is her favourite uncle
Lyric is infertile despite being hellborn, but not because of a curse or punishment. She was just born that way
Lyric is not as powerful as Vox and Alastor. People were expecting an all-powerful baby, but she's surprisingly weak
The assumption is she's weak from Vox's complicated pregnancy
Lyric has silent seizures (basically gaps out and if she's standing she will fall to the ground)
Vox's pregnancy was extremely rough on him physically from the chronic pain and Mammon draining his energy constantly and from his own mental fears
Lyric worries about Vox constantly because he became very weak and sickly after having her. He's slowly regaining his strength, but being the power source to all the rings in Hell and having a baby was hard
Lyric grew extremely fast, by the time she hit the age of seven years old she was already fourteen mentally and physically
No one knows why she grows twice as fast
Lyric is extremely chaotic and loves to cause problems. Usually Alastor has to rein her in
Lyric loves Vox and Alastor equally and would cry if she had to pick between them
Lyric is a cannibal
Lyric has begged her parents for a baby sibling for years, Vox and Alastor don't know if they want to risk Vox's health again for another baby
Lucifer said that if they decide for another kid, he would personally make sure all the sins used no electricity for their projects and went back to the old days of running things (aka Lucifer is on team Lyric and wants them to have another child)
Charlie loves Lyric and adores taking her out on outings
Husk and Niffty are technically Lyric's thralls too
Angel doesn't mind Lyric, but she reminds him a lot of his sister and it makes him sad
Vaggie didn't like her when she was a kid or baby, but once she hit her teenage years, Vaggie adored her
Lyric has extremely good eye sight and hearing, but she has no sense of smell
Alastor and Vox having another kid is all up to you guys! Someone suggested the name Harmony for another daughter (which I loved)

What is Hypnosis and How Can It Help You?
Hypnosis often conjures images of swinging pocket watches and people clucking like chickens, but in reality, it is a powerful therapeutic tool with a wide range of applications. In places like Red Deer, hypnosis therapy has gained popularity for its effectiveness in addressing various issues. If you're curious about how Red Deer Hypnosis can help you, read on to discover what hypnosis is and how it can benefit your life.
Tumblr media
Understanding Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility. It is not mind control or magic but a therapeutic technique used to access the subconscious mind. During hypnosis, a trained hypnotherapist guides you into a relaxed state where your mind becomes more open to positive suggestions. This state can help you overcome various challenges and make lasting changes in your behavior and thought patterns.
How Does Hypnosis Work?
The human mind is divided into the conscious and subconscious. The conscious mind is responsible for rational thinking and decision-making, while the subconscious mind stores habits, emotions, and memories. Hypnosis works by bypassing the conscious mind and communicating directly with the subconscious. This allows for the reprogramming of negative patterns and the reinforcement of positive behaviors.
The Hypnosis Process
Induction: The hypnotherapist uses techniques such as deep breathing or visualization to induce a state of relaxation.
Deepening: Further relaxation techniques deepen the trance state, making the mind more receptive to suggestions.
Suggestion: Positive suggestions tailored to your specific goals are introduced.
Awakening: The hypnotherapist gently guides you back to full awareness, feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Tumblr media

The chronical of Daniel Lumiere: Prolouge
Tumblr media
.. I'm going to tell you a story.
A story about love, pure love. Passionate love. Obsessive and toxic love. Selfless love
A story about hatred. For others, for yourself, for society.
And pain… so much pain.
My name in case you were wondering, is Daniel Lumiere. And this is my story about how one - stupid - choice saved my entire life.
May 15th. 2010
d̶e̶a̶r̶ d̶i̶a̶r̶y̶
Dear future Daniel.
I’m spending this weekend with mom and dad at Grandmas. I actually like it out here compared to the city. It's quiet and peaceful. I didn’t really sleep last night. I heard mom and dad arguing again. I don’t know how Elizebeth can sleep through it. I kinda wish she was here, but she didn’t come. She went on a weekend trip away with her friends. I wish I could do that sorta thing. I wish I had some friends. Hopefully this weekend won't be too bad. I don’t wanna hear them yelling again. I hate hearing it. At least I’ll get to be away from the city for the weekend. I wonder if I'll see a deer. That would be cool. They always run when I get close though. It be cool if I could pet one. Well…I don’t have anything else to say. Bye.
With a sigh, the black cover of the leather notebook is closed. The pen being used to write it is tucked back into the bag. Bright green eyes stare down at it with a frown. A young red-haired boy sits in the backseat of the blue van. He’s pale with freckles adorning his round cheeks. He peers out the window as the woods fly by them.
“There’s hardly any service out here.” Comes the low gravelly voice from the front passenger seat. “How am I going to get any work done?”
There’s a sigh from the driver's seat. “Honey, this is supposed to be a family weekend.” Comes a soft and soothing voice in comparison.
“That doesn’t change that I have to get these reports in by Monday.” The rough voice complains.
“I’m sure you’ll have plenty of time.” The soft voice replies optimistically
“Like hell I will.”
“Honey, watch your language infront of Daniel-”
“He’s old enough.”
“He’s only ten.”
“I heard plenty of curse words when I was ten-”
“Can we not do this infront of him?
The boy's shoulders tense, he looks down at his notebook. Trying to focus on something else. He drowns out the adults' conversations in front of him as he runs his thumbs over the leather cover. There’s a small floral pattern engraved into the bottom corners. He remembers receiving this notebook from his mother two years ago. During the time when he was enduring severe bullying in middle school. And as a result was taken out a month later to be permanently home-schooled. He squeezes the notebook a bit.
‘Stand up for yourself. Come on, be a man.’ His father had said.
‘Don’t worry honey, mommy won’t let those bullies hurt you anymore.’ His mother had said.
It had resulted in yet another argument between his parents. A long and drawn out one regarding whether or not he would be kept in public schools or not. In the end his mother had won the argument and he had been home-schooled ever since. He didn’t really go outside or interact with people aside from his family. Occasionally he would go out but only with his mother or sister.
His lips press together, brows lowering as he brushes his hand across the cover. He remembered his mother gave him the notebook briefly after his homeschooling began.
“It’ll help you get to know yourself better.” She told him.
His father didn’t approve. “Dairies are for girls.” He lectured him.
Ultimately he was allowed to keep it. His mother’s comment made him think, what kind of person would he be when he was older? He wasn’t sure. Whether it was some joke or just a strange sense of wanting to look into his past years later, he began every entry as if it were a letter to his future self. He hoped he would be someone cool in his future. Someone who was awesome, someone people liked.
“Okay kiddo, we're here.” Daniel looks up as his mother calls. The van comes to a stop in front of a wooden home surrounded by thick forestry. There was a dirt path leading up and back to the road behind them. Daniel opens the car door and slides out, grabbing his duffle bag and slinging it over his shoulder as he glances at his grandparents house.
It was a two story wooden house made of logs with stone gable roof. Two large bay windows sat at the front of the house, the front door between them. There was a balcony above it on the second floor with windows adorning the front. A large wooden porch was built around the house. A fence going around the perimeter. And a set of wooden steps lead down the small incline the house sat on.
From what his mom told him, his grandparents had built this house years ago. Before he or his sister were born. And that she lived here in her childhood. It was becoming a bit harder to manage in their older age though, and they were looking to sell the home to someone within the next few years.
Two people stood on the porch, waving at their arrival. The woman resembled his mom, who like his grandma was a white woman with blonde hair and green eyes. His grandpa on the other hand was a mixed man, tanned skin and a brunette with brown eyes. “Hey Carol!” His grandma calls his mother.
“Hey mom!” She calls back.
“Hurry on up, we were just about to start dinner.”
Daniel follows his parents, still exchanging heated whispers between themselves. Their faces turn to all smiles as they reach the porch. Daniel doesn’t miss the way his grandpa gives his father a look. But he doesn’t say anything. His grandparents swarm him - as they always do - his grandma pinching his cheeks. Telling him how cute he is, and how big he’s gotten. HIs grandpa pats his head and laughs as he tells him what a ladies man he’ll be when he’s older. They turn their attention to his parents. It's then that he tunes out the adults' conversations as he looks out into the woods, it gets thicker from the spot there in. The trees combing together and a dirt trail leading off into the forestry.
“Come on, you can help cook.” He hears his grandma say to his mom. He looks over to find his mother and grandma heading inside. His grandpa and father seem to be having a staredown.
Daniel glances to the forest once again, his body is tense. He doesn’t wanna be here for whatever they're going to talk about. He turns to his grandpa and father, but before he can utter a word his grandpa looks at him. Gives him a warm and friendly smile and says, “hey Danny, how about you go and explore for a bit, okay? We’ll call you when dinner is ready.”
He didn’t really like that nickname.
“Yeah, go explore.” His father affirms more harshly.
His grandpa gives his father a side-eye. His father turns away, crossing his arms.
Daniel nods, “okay.” He says with a grin. Then turns and rushes down the stairs, not fast enough in his opinion. He walks quickly into the forest, following the path at first.
The forestry thickens around him as he descends deeper, away from the house. The ground is rough and uneven, paved with bumps, stones and different vegetation. He steps over a fallen tree, stopping only to kneel down and peer into the rotting bark. He can see millions of little insects crawling around in it. Curiously he pokes one, a worm. It wiggles under his soft touch and quickly scurries away. He chuckles to himself, standing up and brushing the bit of dirt off his hands and shorts.
He continues to walk.
Coming to a shallow stream that he can just walk through. But Daniel hops onto the little stones that peak out of the water instead, crossing onto the other side. He glances down into the shallow waters of the stream. It's rushing in a slow relaxed drawl around the mossy rocks. He can see tiny little bugs in the water. They skip across its service and down the stream as he gets closer. There’s also a few tiny fish. He takes in a deep breath, the air feels lighter here. It always has to him.
The birds chirp above his head, and he listens to the soft hum of the water as it makes its way down the stream. He continues on.
He makes his way past the stream, past the large trees that stretch hundreds of miles into the air. He wonders what lives at the top. What kind of birds? What does he look like to them?
Then another thought comes to him as he climbs over a fallen rotting log. Bits of damp dead bark clinging onto his fingers as he grips it.
Is there someone…something out there that looks down at him like he looks at ants? Does he look like an ant to something out there?
It's a peculiar thought for a ten year old.
But it's one that often crosses his young mind.
Twigs and leaves crunch under his shoes as he climbs up a small hill. It's a bit steep and it's one he’s never gone up before. He’s traveled through these woods a few different times. Each time he’s come out here to visit his grandparents. Back when his sister wasn’t a busy 17 year old getting ready for her senior year and looking at possible colleges. Back when she was just as young and silly as him.
They’d both traversed through these woods. Off exploring and seeing what they could find. Out here for hours, usually making sure to stay close to the path. Somehow they never got lost, even when they did explore off the path. They’d always find their way back and just in time for dinner.
Daniel pauses, halfway up the steep incline. His hand grasping a tree for leverage. His smile dips. He suddenly feels very lonely out here, exploring on his own. He wonders, would it be more fun with his sister here? Or would she be lazily trailing behind him, nose in her phone while he enthusiastically pointed out things to her only to get a ‘uh huh’ in return.
He shakes the thought away and pulls himself up. He gets to the top of the hill. It wasn’t a hard climb, probably easy for an adult. But he’s proud of himself anyway.
He looks over the small view he’s been granted for his trial.
And then he pauses. Transfixed and perturbed.
There’s a small meadow ahead, surrounded by the dense trees. But in the center, stands a tree that doesn’t seem to belong here.
The base of the tree is noticeably thicker than the others. The branches curve out, twisting and winding opposed to the way the other trees seem to grow. With the base growing straight up and the branches following suit. The leaves that cover those twisting and curving branches are green. But they’ve grown in a way that almost makes it look like rainfall. And as he blinks and stares, he swears the leaves almost have a blue tint to them. It also seems as if the sunlight favors this tree the most. The light peeks through the forest granting bits of the sunlight to grace the forest floor. But this tree? It looks practically bathed in the light. As if Heaven itself is shining down upon it.
Daniel feels…strange. Like, like something is tugging on him. Beckoning him.
Curious and fascinated he’s found something new despite exploring these woods for years. He quickly slides down the hill, catching himself before he can fall at the bottom. He stands, hesitating.
Leaves russell and Daniel jumps a bit as he looks down; finding a squirrel running past him. Eagerly running up to the aforementioned tree. He pauses a few feet from the base and turns to him, its head cocking to the side as it blinks in two quick motions. Almost as if asking, ‘what are you waiting for?’
Daniel watches the squirrel run up the base of the tree and into its waiting leaves.
He walks closer, the air feels warmer here. And as he draws closer to the tree he realizes just how big it is compared to him. Compared to the other trees. It must be ancient, given its size. He appears like a mouse next to its gargantuan trunk. He observes through the wood that the trunk has grown weirdly. It's curved and wavy, like a spiral. And there’s small engravings in every inch of the tree. But he doesn’t understand or recognize it.
Still, he inches closer. The air brushes past him and it's warm, tickling his face. He chuckles and rubs his face. Glances at the base of the tree and hesitantly raises a hand.
Then he rests his hand against the base of the tree.
Something jolts in him. And a barrage of flashing images all cascade behind his open eyes. All in blurred motion. All quick.
Red.
Black.
A dark hand.
His hand.
Green Cape.
Boy.
Laughter.
Fire.
Darkness.
Daniel gasps and quickly yanks his hand back as if he’d been electrocuted. Stumbling and falling into the leaves below him. He breathes quickly, feeling his pulse racing. He gawks at the tree with wide eyes.
What was that?
He swallows, standing on shaking knees. He finds himself staring at the tree and his body instinctively takes several steps back. His eyes never leave the tree.
D   a n  i  e  l
The boy stops in his tracks.
His heart plunges into his throat and a cold dread falls over him like ice water. He’s frozen in place. Looking around at the trees.
Did…someone just call him?
Daniel peers around, he searches the trees around him. Desperately looking for the tiniest of movements.
But there’s nothing here. Just the trees, just the air and the birds.
Who have stopped chirping.
And the wind…it's gone dead.
Daniel's blood runs cold, his palms clammy. He feels…watched.
Something russells in a bush.
He’s frozen as a statue.
Suddenly it darts out.
He yelps loudly, stumbling back and tripping over his ankles. He hits the ground and is frozen as he stares down-
A….squirrel?
A squirrel
It glances at the petrified pale faced boy curiously before darting quickly to the parallel tree and running up into it.
The young boy heaves a long sigh. His heart rate gradually climbs down. “Just a squirrel.” He laughs to himself. “I’m okay. Nothing to be scared of.” He assures himself.
Daniel takes a moment, on the ground sitting with his legs to his chest. To compose himself and gain his breathing back. The birds are back, and the wind is howling softly in his ear again. But he’s okay, he’s fine. He’s safe.  It takes about ten minutes before he gets to his feet and decides he’s ready to start heading back.
He turns to the trail.
But it's not there.
It's…it's not there.
And neither is the tree when he turns back to it.
Instead what is in front and behind him, - as well as where the tree should be - is a grassy clearing with tall grass that reaches to his midsection. And not far ahead, only a few feet is the entrance to a small cave. The edges are coated with moss. He thinks it's moss. Because…wasn’t moss supposed to be green? Not blue?
He can’t see into the cave. It's as if a veil of darkness hangs over the front of it. Preventing him from seeing beyond it.
He takes a step back, intent on leaving. He isn’t sure where he is but he wants to go home.
And yet…as he stares at the entrance of the cave…
He feels…
Drawn to it.
He…
Wants to go in it.
So he does.
His mind argues that this is a bad idea, human fear screaming he should find his way back home. Cry and scream for his mom to find him.
But his body tells him another story.
There is nothing to fear here.
So with some nervousness, he listens to his body's instincts and pursues his curiosity as he walks to the entrance of the cave. He holds a hand up to it, it shakes a little.
He presses his hand through the entrance and there’s a cold feeling that washes over his hand. Like a cold waterfall. He gasps and rips his hand away.
“What-!” Daniel gapes his eyes wide again.
D    a   n    i    e  l
Daniel yelps as he whirls around.
Something just whispered in my ear.
His heart is racing and he looks around searching for the voice. The voice that he realizes doesn’t sound like a man's voice, or a female's voice for that matter. His fingers tremble as he looks around the expanse of the forest, and he hears nothing again. But there’s that unmistakable feeling of being watched once more.
Suddenly he thinks the cave is a better place than whatever lingers out here.
And he turns on his heel running quickly through the entrance of the cave. A loud gasp echoes off the walls of the cave as he rushes in. It's like passing through an ice cold waterfall. He shivers, and the cold lingers but only for a moment. Before his breathing settles again.
He looks behind him, and finds the entrance is still there. But he can no longer see the outside. It's blocked by that same invisible wall of darkness. Yet knowing something is out there, he doesn’t want to go back out.
So he goes deeper.
The cave feels…strange, the air’s damp. Moist. But as he touches the walls they are cold and hard. His steps echo softly as he walks, and he can hear a trickle of water somewhere. As he continues deeper into the cave, it strikes him as odd. A thought comes to him.
How is he able to see in the dark?
Daniel pauses, and peers around, everything is dark. But he can still make out every detail of the cave clearly. He can see there's moss along the roof of the cave, and the walls themselves dont look like that gray rock color. But they look almost like blue. A dark gray blue. When he reaches his hand against the wall again he feels a weird sensation under his fingertips. It's electrifying. Prickling under his hands and it sends jolts through his body.
He pulls his hand back quickly.
It feels almost similar to that sensation he got from that strange tree.
Daniel steadies his breathing and goes on.
He continues to marvel at the cave as he walks. He’s never…seen anything like it. He searches through his memories of all the times he and his sister explored these woods when they were growing up. Sure he was only ten. But they used to come out here just about every summer for a few weeks. When his sister grew older they would go further. But he didn’t come out here much anymore since she had started highschool.
Still, he knew he had never seen this cave before. Or that tree. Or even the meadow this cave resigned in.
He should be scared.
And yet…
He finds himself crouching down and smiling in wonder at the clump of red jewels gathered on one of the cave walls. It looks like it's growing out of the wall.
How could he be scared of something so…magical.
This place, this cave, it doesn’t feel…like a bad place. It doesn’t exactly feel like a good place either. But somewhere in his chest, in his gut…in his soul, he felt that he was allowed to be here right now.
It was a strange feeling.
And maybe one his human mind was simply conjuring to rationalize the absurdity of this situation.
Daniel stands and moves on.
He walks for a while, he doesn’t really know how long. But he continues to see more clusters of these strange red crystals. They cover the walls, and then almost every wall as he descends deeper. They glow softly and bathe the once dark cave in a dim red glow. The walls themselves begin to look strange, what once was his difficult guess on whether they were still gray or if they were blue. Is now certainly that they are a purple color. With a crystal-like texture. Shimmering and reflecting his reflection back at him in a warped way.
Daniel stops to look at one of his reflections, a sharp gasp leaves him. Because his reflection is staring back at him with not his green eyes. But molten gold and orange hues that give him that same startled look he looks at his reflection with. He touches his face in alarm, wondering if that’s truly how he looks. Or if it's the trick of the cave. His eyes flicker in his reflection to his ears. He doesn’t even notice the length of his reflection’s hair is slightly longer. No instead his panic and wonder grow as he finds that his ears are pointed. Much like an elfs. He can feel his heart racing as he quickly touches his ears. A beat of relief flooding him as his fingers find the round shell of his ear and not the pointed tip his mirrored image shows.
It's just an illusion…right?
He half expects his reflection to leap out from the wall and attack him. But it does no such thing. It behaves as a reflection should. Mirroring his every action. But it holds things that he does not. Something sticks out among his mirrored self, something that's not a part of his features. His reflection holds a pretty red jewel around its neck, where he knows he does not.
Something dark, cold and decidedly uncomfortable twists in his chest. In his mind.
He quickly steps back only now aware of how hard his heart is hammering.
The crystals that surround him seem to glow, almost…brighter? The light they give off feels warm. But…wrong. Unnatural.
The urge to leave this cave of wonders is sudden. But something in his mind whispers he’s seen something he shouldn’t have. A part of his mind that ties in with every instinctive section of a human mind. That part that knows how far they can look into the beyond before their mind begins to tear and dare to travel into the depths of insanity.
So he steps back, intent on heading back from where he came. Run back out, run back to his mom and run back to the normal - safe - mundanity of his life.
He turns.
He half expected there to be a wall, a cruel joke to him. To block where he came. To seal him away.
But the way back is still there. Open and willing to take him home.
Daniel stands, facing it and he stares for a moment. As he takes a step forward he pauses…A thought filtering into his mind.
Go back to what? To being someone who always runs away from everything? That fears everything?  It's a strange thought, one that somehow sounds like him. His voice. But it also feels…way too sophisticated for someone his age to even have such a thought. If you go back now, you’ll regret it. Trust me. His own voice tells him. It does sound like him, and yet…it doesn’t.
But it is his voice.
He knows it, somewhere in his gut.
The voice holds no malice, no anger. He feels it. He knows, its words are true.
And he knows it's right.
He swallows, and with some trepidation, Daniel turns around. Away from the exit, away from his route back to the safety of ignorance that mankind holds as a whole.
And he continues on.
The strange red crystals do thicken, to the point of almost blocking the way forward. But something urges him on even when they do begin to block his path. Even when he has to climb over them, avoiding nearly being cut by their pointed edges.
He crosses one more final cluster, blocking the entirety of the path and there is only a small entrance at the center. How lucky that given his size, he is the perfect fit to get through it. The crystal does tear a bit at his shirt and pants. Leaving small rips but nothing that hurts him.
He emerges on the other side.
The air has changed.
It's cooler.
Clearer.
Like the tree.
Something filters in the air, that same electrical feeling that the walls have.
But now he can feel it all over his body.
The crystals completely cover the walls now but his eyes are on something else for once.
There’s a stone pedestal in the center of the cave. And an entrance behind it leading deeper into the cave towards some strange light source. He thinks about continuing, seeing what may be on the other side of that light. But what draws his immediate attention is what's on the pedestal.
He walks forward.
It's a crystal.
Just like the ones on the wall.
But this one is attached to a black rope of some kind. At least he thinks it's a rope? It's strangely thin. Like a fishing line. He doesn’t think it would break easily. If he tried to snap it.
His hand hovers near the crystal and rope.
It looks like a necklace, but whose? Did this belong to someone?
He stares at the crystal, all of this feels too surreal. Like something he would find out of a storybook. He briefly wonders if he’s dreaming. He probably is. That would explain all this weirdness. But…if it is a dream, then why not plunge further into this adventure? Because when he wakes, all that will await him is the boring normality of his life.
   His life.
He frowns.
Daniel thinks about his mother and father, waiting for him back at the house. Something twists in his chest. An unspoken acknowledgement even he knows despite his young age. One that his parents try to hide behind fake smiles and reassurance. His mother more than his father.
He swallows. Suddenly not wanting to go back. Not wanting to wake up. For as strange as the cave is.. It feels warm. Inviting almost. Almost.
Daniels lip quivers, he steps back from the stone pedestal and the reality of everything hits him all at once. His knees buckle and he falls onto the cave floor. Pressing his hands to his eyes. Swallowing the painful knot in his throat.
“Don't..don't…” he whispers to himself. His lips tremble and he sucks in a breath. “I don't wanna go back.” His voice cracks. It echoes back to him from the cave walls, hollow and shaking.
Why should he go back? Why…for what? To a sister who barely interacts with him? To his parents who talk as if he’s not even there? To a home colder than this cave? Why? Why should he go back?
He presses his palms so hard into his eyes that dots dance in the darkness of his vision. He takes slow deep breaths as he's learned to. To keep it in. His body begins to shake.
I’m just a nobody.
Something warm touches his shoulder. Something solid.
“You're going to be okay Daniel. I promise.” A voice whispers in his ear. A male’s voice.
He looks up immediately and turns to peer over his shoulder.
But nobody is there.
And the strange warmth that held his shoulder, is gone.
Daniel blinks, feeling moisture on his eyelashes. Unaware of when they’d even gotten there.
He looks behind him, his eyes searching the cavern walls for something. Anything. But no, he’s alone. Safe for his reflections.
Daniel takes a breath, wipes his eyes and stands.
It's a dream. And it has to end eventually. But…at least he can still enjoy it while it lasts.
So Daniel walks back up to the crystal, resting on the stone pedestal. It's only then that he realizes while it is red, it doesn’t glow like the other crystals. He doesn’t stop to think about it.
He stands on his toes, needing to in order to reach the pedestal properly. His chin just barely reaches above the top. And his fingers barely brush against the rope. He pulls at it and tugs it towards the edge.
He catches the necklace between his fingers. And stumbles back away from the stone pedestal. The jewel swings around and he holds it up to examine it.
It's shaped like a diamond. But not the ore, rather the shape itself that he remembers seeing in his math books. It's pointed on all four sides and it's red like a ruby. He’s never seen anything like it. He lifts his hand to the crystal gently lowering it to rest in his palm. It's just the exact size of his palm.
There’s an electricity flowing through it, that teams with life under his skin. It feels a little heavier than he thought it would. Like he’s holding someone’s hand, and not a jewel. It's warm too.
He feels the urge to keep it. To put it on.
So he does.
He slides the rope over his head and it strangely fits perfectly around his collarbone. The crystal rests in place against his chest and he feels a strange emotion wash over him.
Peace.
But…it follows with something else.
A heavy weighing darkness, and it pushes into him.
It's like it's taking up his body, every space of him. Trying to share it with him and he gasps suddenly, unable to breathe. He stumbles back, trying to reach to take the necklace off. But his hand stops, he doesn’t know why. But he chooses not to take it over. Despite his vision rapidly falling into the shadows, his airways deplete more and more.
His brain is panicked and frantically yelling. Screaming for air. He can’t breathe.
But…he isn’t afraid. Even as he slips into the darkness, only wishing he could just breathe.
“Daniel!”
He gasps for a breath of air.
And it comes, thank god the air comes.
Daniel blinks and looks around him. He’s lying against a tree. And as he looks around him he can see the stream just up ahead. As he turns back he finds his grandparents cabin in the distance.
“Daniel dinnertime!” He hears his mother call.
Oh…so it was a dream?
He thinks, a little disappointed. He sighs, it was…a weird and scary dream. But it was a fun one. All things considered. It's strange though, that he finds he remembers every detail of it. But perhaps it will simply fade away as all dreams do after waking up.
“Coming!” He calls back.
He stands, pushing off the tree he had fallen asleep against. He rubs his eyes and stretches his arms out. But as he moves, he feels something, a weight, against his chest.
Daniel freezes, and he looks down. Only now registering…
The red jewel hanging around his neck.
