You know what? Even leaving aside the issue of whether she was cursed by Athena or whether she was just Like That (answer: both! Mythology is weird and sometimes one character can have multiple conflicting origin stories), Medusa did nothing wrong.
Like, if you travel miles and miles to an isolated cave away from anywhere and everybody, generally known to be home to That Lady Where If You Look At Her You Turn To Stone, surrounded by the terrified looking statues of People Who Looked At Her And Turned To Stone, and you make the decision to stroll inside, Look At Her, and Get Turned To Stone as a result— then how in the fucking fuck is that her fault?
What further steps, exactly, should Medusa have taken to avoid this?
#medusa#mythology#given tumblr's history with these kinds of things#i feel like i should clarify that this is my own headcanon#based on versions of the myth i have read#and NOT#a 'new original version that tells the *real* story!'#also if you want a story that is *like* medusa but sympathetic#then consider checking out#The Big Ugly Monster And The Little Stone Rabbit#by Christopher Wormell#by far the *weirdest* kids picture book my parents ever read to me
