I will not rest until the rest of MASHblr is as insane about the 80’s office AU ads as I am

So I wanted to compile the ads so I could just post one video and not like a whole YouTube playlist, but I quickly found out that there are SO MANY MASH IBM ads! So I decided to leave out ones that weren’t office related and were more ‘Alan Alda puts on a bunch of different hats’ and ‘Jamie Farr repeatedly tries and fails to enter a building’ and I actually had to cut one ad of Alan and some kids in a classroom that I wanted to put in cuz I think it’s cute.

But anyway, I am always gnawing at the bars of my enclosure thinking of the universe these ads take place in. Like, who flooded the office? Did Trapper ever get to go to Hawaii? Where’s BJ? (JK he’s at a gay picnic)

I feel like there’s a rich vein here and us weirdos, sickos, and perverts need to buckle down and really dig into the potential for office shenanigans.

The American Woman's Association Clubhouse between West 57th and West 58th Streets, December 29, 1931. It was established as a place where professional women could network their way to success in the business world. At that time the group estimated that 700,000 women held salaried jobs in the city, with 50,000 of those in managerial or executive positions. Their architect was Benjamin Wistar Morris, who had close ties to the Morgan family. 

Most of the credit for the clubhouse goes to Anne Morgan, daughter of J.P. Morgan, who used her huge inheritance to advance causes of social justice. In 1903 she had been among the founders of the Colony Club, the pre-eminent women's club in New York, and in 1909 she brought striking women garment workers to be heard by the membership.

Morgan called the AWA ''a training school for leadership, a mental exchange'' where women ''can hear what other women are doing.'' The organization had 61 doctors, 16 lawyers, 939 teachers, a bacteriologist, a tug dispatcher and workers in many other fields. But Miss Morgan said that not everyone was eligible, only the woman ''with ambition, pluck and energy, which will push her up and up in her profession.''

The clubhouse had 1,250 rooms, along with a swimming pool, gym, meeting rooms, a restaurant, music rooms and wide terraces on the upper setbacks. Although the sleeping rooms had 128 color combinations, the exterior was bare and boxy, rising up among the aging brownstones of West 57th Street like a grain elevator in the Nebraska prairie grasses.

The club lasted until 1941, when bankruptcy proceedings forced the AWA to sell it, and it became the Henry Hudson Hotel.

If Maddie being kidnapped in the promo is a misdirect for Buck actually being the one being kidnapped, I think this is what all the NDE's allusions have been to.

Because, despite the throw away ones in the background, most of all of the NDE allusions have been Buck and Eddie centric. And I made a connection that I think could be huge in terms of this scenario.

I said in a previous post that I think the car accident in episode 5 was alluding to Shannon's car accident, and I think that interpretation is crucial to this theory.

All of the NDE's have had some connection to Chris. That cannot be a coincidence.

The car accident, his mother died.

The well, his father almost dies.

The lightning strike, a permanent figure, a father figure in his life almost dies.

The tsunami, he almost dies

And what about the other time that Buck and Eddie were kidnapped? His life was threatened by their captors.

Not to mention that during that kidnapping, Buck and Eddie spent the entire episode protecting each other, and Buck for a split second thought that Eddie had died. Therefore, becoming another possible NDE.

All of those instances are either connected directly to Chris, or show how he is affected by it. Some of them are also part of the motivations for Eddie leaving the 118 in season 5, something that he is repeating again.

I think that these allusions are not only foreshadowing something that is happening in 8b, but also bringing up important moment that are huge motivators for the characters in the past.

The Heritage Foundation and most of the people who appear in the videos cited in this story did not respond to ProPublica’s repeated requests for comment. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, said, “As our campaign leadership and President Trump have repeatedly stated, Agenda 47 is the only official policy agenda from our campaign.”
