This is my brain trying to make sense of the new Eddie/Shannon/Chris timeline
With Shannon’s birth year now canonically being 1992 I thought I’d throw together a rough timeline for her and Eddie’s relationship since it seems to be confusing some people. (Although it doesn’t really matter what year these characters were born and we shouldn’t put too much thought into this bc the show retcons backstories all the time)
It’s canon that Shannon was born Oct 1992 and that Buck was born June 1992 and so logically Eddie was probably born either Sept 1990/91/92 (Edit: Its canon everyone! Eddie is a 1992 baby!). I like thinking that he’s a little older than Buck and so I’m going to stick with Eddie being born 1991. I have edited this to reflect his canon age.
I'm going to break this down by year and bold the stuff that is confirmed canon the other stuff is was I could piece together to make it make sense.
And yes I know their ages might fluctuate depending on when birthdays fall I was just making it easier on myself.
2010:
August: Shannon and Eddie have known each other since they were 14. They start dating in their senior year of high school. Shannon finds out she's pregnant, her and Eddie get married, Eddie enlists in the army (Shannon: 18, Eddie: 18)
Basic training is about 10 weeks plus 16 weeks of medic training so Eddie is away at basic for 26 weeks total (Sept 2010 - Jan 2011)
2011:
Eddie finishes basic in Jan 2011 and goes on his first tour in Feb 2011
Tours are anywhere between 7 and 15 months - lets say Eddie's first tour was 9 months
Eddie gets leave from his tour to be there for Chris' birth but has to return soon after (Shannon: 19, Eddie: 19).
2011-2013:
Eddie is in the army on tours and periodically home
Eddie misses Chris' diagnosis
2013:
Eddie re-enlists without telling Shannon (Shannon: 21, Eddie: 21, Chris: 2)
From my research enlistments are usually 4 years in active duty and two years inactive. However, after you've completed active duty you can extend or re-enlist for another four of active duty. This would align with Eddie's timeline as 2010-2014 would be his first contract and he re-enlisted in 2013 to start his second contract as soon as his first is done.
2015:
Eddie's helicopter gets shot down and Eddie is discharged early from the army (Shannon: 23, Eddie: 23, Chris: 4)
Eddie is a Staff Sergeant at this point which is possible for his age just not common
Shannon leaves to take care of her dying mother
2017:
Helena and Ramon try to take Chris from Eddie
Eddie and Chris leave El Paso for LA
Eddie starts at the Fire Academy (Shannon: 25, Eddie: 25, Chris: 6)
2018:
Eddie joins the 118
Shannon returns and dies
(Shannon: 26, Eddie: 26, Chris: 7, Buck: 26)
Do with this as you will :)
#does it all line up with what is said on the show? no but i did the best i could with what weve been given lol#especially since in eddie begins they say chris is born in 2011 and then later in 2015 eddie says chris is 6 when hes actually 4#but yknow continuity#eddie/shannon/chris are very dear to me and so i wanted to piece them together more#I didn't go into detail about how shannon and eddie met and their relationship before she got pregnant because we really dont know anything#but i'm partial to them being high school sweethearts#i apologise if anything regarding the us military is incorrect im canadian and all my info came from research i did on google#eddie diaz#shannon diaz#christopher diaz#evan buckley#evan buck buckley#911 on fox#911 fox

It's a somber mood in the car as Buck drives home with his boyfriend. They'd been in high spirits too, helping Eddie set up the decorations and encouraging him when he was feeling a little uncertain about the surprise.
Now Buck wishes he hadn't been there to see the way Chris blew off his dad. The pain in Eddie's entire being was broadcast loudly, even if Eddie merely shut the video call down and then grabbed himself a beer afterwards. Tommy went after Eddie and Buck saw them talking in low voices for a bit, and he hopes that Tommy helped, because Buck was - still is - at a loss of words.
It's hard not to feel protective of Eddie, but it's also difficult because it's Christopher inflicting this hurt, and Buck isn't sure how to feel.
"Hey. We tried. Eddie tried. It just wasn't time yet," Tommy ventures, reaching across the console to pat Buck's knee.
Buck sighs. "It's just... It's Chris. Ball of sunshine, always positive, a complete sweetheart Christopher Diaz. I think about that kid and I think about the boy on the screen just now and. They're not the same person."
"Or maybe," Tommy says gently, his big hand still on Buck's thigh, "he's a teenager who is going through a very difficult emotional time and also some challenging physical changes."
"That what you told Eddie?"
"No, I told him that even if Chris isn't receptive now, he'll remember that Eddie tried, and when Chris is feeling less resentful and more forgiving, this will be an important moment." Tommy exhales slowly. "I mean, what I would have given if my father tried half as much as Eddie does to be a good dad."
Buck keeps his eyes on the road. Tommy's wistful tone reminds him that, of the three of them, Tommy is the only one who goes no-contact with his father. Buck hasn't pried. He wants Tommy to share of his own volition.
"I'm glad you were there for Eddie just now," he says instead, because it's true.
Tommy squeezes Buck's thigh gently. "He's my friend too. You know, he can have more than one friend."
"Yeah, some dork with terrible fake mouth static told me that once."
"Medal-worthy fake mouth static, thank you very much."
Buck has to chuckle at that. At the next red light, he picks up Tommy's hand and kisses the knuckles, before looking at his boyfriend straight in the eyes. "You're the best boyfriend."
"Baby, I'm your first boyfriend," Tommy says, eyes crinkling in the corners. "No competition."
Buck is going to retort when the car behind them blasts their horn. With a snort, Buck gets back to driving. "What, you want there to be competition? Not happy to be the first?"
Tommy is silent, but there's a quirk to his lips when Buck steals a glance at him.
"What?" Buck presses.
"Well, I was gonna say something like, no, I want to be the first and the last, but that might be too much." He sounds a little nervous.
There's a little flip in Buck's belly that tells him that, even if it is too much, he kinda likes it. He smiles and takes Tommy's hand, squeezes. "A bit much right now, yeah. But I'm... not opposed to the idea."
Tommy turns his hand over and intertwines their fingers. "Good. That's good."

Eddie Diaz Masterlist
Part 2
Summary: (Y/n) has moved on from her abusive ex. She's happily married with a family. Until her ex sees her and attacks her in the street.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eddie ran his fingers through his hair and gave his head a light shake as he wandered out the bathroom and made his way towards the bedroom.
He could feel a headache forming.
He had tried to take a nap this afternoon before Chris got home from school so he would be prepared for his double shift that started tonight. Eddie didn't sleep at the station unless he was doing a stint of shifts in a row. And he was going on shift tonight and wouldn't be home until late tomorrow night. He couldn't very well turn up for a night shift and try to catch a few hours of sleep not long after he arrived, and he wanted to be rearing and ready to go when he got there.
"Okay baby, I gotta go." His eyes focused on the hem of his shirt which he tucked into his trousers but when Eddie lifted his head, all the blood drained down to his feet. His lips suddenly went very dry and his jaw hung open but he couldn't find anything else to say when he walked in the bedroom.
Oh, that wasn't fair.
How was Eddie supposed to leave for a double shift when (Y/n) looked like that?
Her image burned into his eyes and left it cemented into his brain. How could he go out on a call and try to focus when his wife was at home looking that good? How was he supposed to head to work and not stay here when she looked that appealing to him?
The sight of her stood there like that was enough to make Eddie growl and rethink going into work tonight.
It was clear that (Y/n) hadn't long got out the shower. She was wearing one of Eddie's plain cotton shirts and a pair of his boxers that were glued rather shapely around her bum. And his shirt hung off her left shoulder as if giving him a sneak preview of what he was missing out on. But it was the way his shirt was bunched up over her hip and partly tucked into the boxers that made it hard to stay in control. He wanted to go over there and rip it over her head and drag the boxers down to her ankles.
He swallowed harshly as he watched (Y/n) drag her fingers through her damp hair and it made her shirt rise up and expose her hip and stomach to his prying eyes.
"Really?" His voice came out a lot deeper than he intended and he saw the confusion pool in (Y/n)'s eyes as she turned to face him.
"What?"
A shiver rolled down (Y/n)'s spine when his arms coiled around her waist and he dragged her closer until her chest bumped into his. His chin brushed against her shoulder and his lips attached to her neck as he absentmindedly leaned up and lifted her high enough that she had to push up on her tiptoes to balance against him.
The feeling of him breathing harshly and sucking at her neck had her knees going weak but when she looked at the watch strapped on his wrist, she knew he was going to be late if he stayed. And Christopher was still awake, they couldn't exactly do anything without him hearing or noticing. He was an observant kid.
"Sweetheart you'll be late," She turned her head to look at him but he caught her lips in a kiss instead and she could feel his hands slip beneath her shirt. His palms pressed flat against the dip in her lower back before she felt his fingertips trace lower and dip past the waistband of his boxers she was wearing.
His shift was going to feel like a week instead of a day with (Y/n)'s image burned into his mind like this.
"Then you shouldn't entice me to stay." He growled and he felt (Y/n) suck in a deep breath when he took her bottom lip between his teeth. He was all prepared to leave until he saw her looking like this.
"Sorry," Sincerity flooded her voice while she cupped Eddie's face in her hands and pecked his lips again before she tried to wriggle out of his arms.
It didn't work. His hands slipped lower into the boxers she wore until both hands had a grip on her bum and he stepped closer, pressing every ridge of his body against hers. When he dug his fingers into her flesh, (Y/n) rolled her lips together and pressed her nose against his cheek.
Maybe she should walk him to the door to make sure he actually left. It wouldn't do him any favours to be late to work when he had a clean track record so far.
Her lips parted into a gasp when she felt Eddie try his luck to walk her backwards towards the bed.
"Don't you wake her." (Y/n) scolded, talking in hushed tones against his cheek before she dipped her head towards the bed.
Evie was finally asleep. The eight-month-old had been rather fussy all day but (Y/n) had given her a bottle and managed to settle her down to sleep. She was curled up asleep in the crib attached to the side of the bed. And (Y/n) wasn't going to let Eddie wake her accidentally and cause (Y/n) another hour of pacing the house and rocking to try and settle her again.
She cupped Eddie's face in her hands when he pulled away from her neck so he could look across at the bed. A fond smile pulled at his lips and his eyes softened when he looked at his baby girl.
"I won't." He murmured against her lips before he leaned forward and stole another kiss. His tongue pushed past her lips and he leaned into the kiss until (Y/n) was tilting back at an angle.
"Don't think I can leave you when you look like that. It's teasing."
He had to get his head in gear and rush into uncertain situations with this image of (Y/n) at the forefront of his mind. He had to save people and clean the trucks and tend to wounds and injuries and run into burning buildings, all while (Y/n) danced across his mind, looking like this.
"I wasn't trying to tease you baby… you're back tomorrow night, I'll be all your tomorrow."
"Hm, but I want you now."
"And I want you to stay, but you can't. I don't like being alone at night." (Y/n) curved her arms tighter around Eddie's neck and pushed forward so she could tuck her face against his skin.
She felt his hands give her a squeeze and he pulled her closer and attached his lips to the side of her head. He began to hum softly against her head and started to sway from side to side which made (Y/n) grin into his neck.
"I know mi amor. It's just tonight… you gonna be alright going to your appointment tomorrow?" Eddie didn't like working nights. Not only did it screw with his body clock and mess with his sleep, it made (Y/n) nervous.
He knew she hated to be home alone. (Y/n) was naturally anxious and being home alone spiked that worry, she didn't feel safe unless someone was with her. And Eddie hated working nights because he knew (Y/n) suffered with nightmares, although they had diminished significantly during the last year. Having Evie really helped because (Y/n) had to wake up during the night to feed her and that warded off the nightmares. And being pregnant had made her overly tired and stopped a lot of the bad dreams.
"Yeah, mum's taking Evie out for a while." (Y/n)'s plan was to drop Chris at school, take Evie to her mums house for the morning and then go to her doctor's appointment. It meant she could actually have her appointment and not have a crying baby in her arms stealing her attention.
Going out on her own wasn't something (Y/n) liked to do either. Eddie usually took her to her appointments, even if he just sat patiently in the waiting room for her, it made (Y/n) feel safe and Eddie would do anything to make her safe and comfortable.
Especially after the trauma (Y/n) had gone through with her ex.
And (Y/n) had become close friends with Eddie's team, she was close with Hen and Karen and especially Maddie. So if ever (Y/n) didn't feel able to go out to the shops or to an appointment or even just out of the house, the girls helped her and went with her.
"Good, if you need me just call, I should be able to answer." He couldn't always answer the phone, but he tried his best. He would rather (Y/n) call him if something was wrong or she didn't feel great, then if Eddie didn't answer he knew to ring her as soon as he could.
"Hm. You'd better go, sweetheart."
(Y/n) tried to pull back and untangle herself from him because she knew he needed to leave so he wouldn't be late to the station. She thought for a second that Eddie was agreeing with her when his hands finally slid up from her underwear.
But a gasp tumbled past (Y/n)'s lips when Eddie's hand reached up for the collar of her shirt that was halfway down her shoulder. With it being Eddie's shirt and two sizes too big for her, the collar was looser and easier to move. It let Eddie hook a finger into the collar and drag it further down her arm, exposing her bare chest to his prying eyes.
(Y/n) tilted her chest back just as Eddie's lips attached to her cleavage. Both her hands moved to his shoulders and she gave him a strong push until he had to reel back up and disconnect from her chest. She dragged the shirt back up her shoulder, hiding the view he had given himself which made him groan.
"Go to work before you wake the baby."
She gave him a gentle nudge until he was walking backwards out the room, his arms back around her waist with his elbows digging into her hips. Her hands reached up to rub across his chest and she continued to nudge him backwards while he stole kiss after kiss from her lips like it was the last time he was going to see her and he was getting his money's worth.
Eddie moved one arm behind him to unlock the front door and grab his keys from the lock. When the door opened, he begrudgingly let (Y/n) push him back until he was over the threshold like a lovesick puppy waiting outside for her. But the moment she was out of his arms, Eddie planted one hand on the doorframe and the other on the door. Preventing her from closing the door on him.
He waited until (Y/n) cupped his face in her hands and tugged him down to press a feverish kiss to his lips. She let him swipe his tongue across her lower lip, begging for entrance before she pulled back, mumbling a quiet 'I love you' and 'goodbye' against his lips before giving him a final nudge out the door.
He had only just left and (Y/n) was begging for him to come back.
***
(Y/n) dragged her fingers through her hair and hitched her bag higher on her shoulder.
It didn't feel right walking down the street without either of the kids alongside her. She was so used to walking and holding Chris's hand or more recently, walking and having the pram in front of her.
She didn't like being out alone. Even when she was pushing Evie, just knowing she had her baby with her made (Y/n) feel better, more secure. But it was times like this when she wished Eddie was with her. (Y/n) hated going anywhere alone, even if it was just a short walk to the doctors and back home like this.
Eddie knew exactly why (Y/n) didn't like being alone whenever she went out. He knew she was too used to being shouted at and threatened in public by her ex. When she was with him, she was permanently afraid of doing anything to upset him and having him hurt her.
When she left him, (Y/n) didn't go out alone in case she ran into him. It had happened far too many times for (Y/n) to feel safe going out alone anymore. Eddie was more than happy to take her wherever she needed to go and it was a big milestone when (Y/n) started taking Chris to school and to the park or just out for walks on their own.
(Y/n) stopped dead in her tracks when her eyes cast ahead down the street. She could feel a cold sweat glistening on her skin and her heartbeat started to pulse through her entire body like she was vibrating.
Oh God.
No. No. Not again. Not when she was alone; not when she was out without Eddie.
It was her ex.
(Y/n) couldn't run ahead. She couldn't carry on towards her home, her safe haven, when her ex was right in the middle of her path.
She couldn't make it to her home without him catching her and (Y/n) didn't want to lead him straight to her house and have him know where she lived. She had a restraining order against him but that didn't stop him. If he knew where she lived he would terrorise her and her children. He would antagonise Eddie until Eddie attacked him again.
And if (Y/n) crossed the street he would only follow her. She couldn't think where to go or which route to take that would allow her to lose him or get rid of him.
She turned around. If she headed back in the other direction, she could find someone. There would be someone nearby, someone near the doctor's surgery or the corner shop or at the park around the next corner.
She ran. She ran as fast as her legs would take her without caring what people would think or the fact that her ex would definitely know it was her now, if he wasn't sure before.
Panic burned in her chest and caused tears to blur her eyes and trickle down her face. The wind stung her eyes and blistered her tears down her cheeks as she pelted down the street as fast as her legs would carry her. It felt like her knees were going to give way, they felt like they had turned to jelly and were buckling, ready to cave.
She thought she was getting away. (Y/n) knew if she rounded the next corner to the left, she would be back on the main street and she would be near the doctor's surgery. She wasn't sure she could make it all the way back in one fell swoop, but she needed to get close enough to find help.
She didn't make it.
An arm as rough and hurtful as barbed wire pinned around her waist before she could get near the corner and be somewhere safer. Her body was propelled to the left and her feet were swept from beneath her.
A scream gurgled past (Y/n)'s lips and she swung her arms out to try and steady herself, but it didn't do anything. She was lifted off her feet and dragged into the alley she hadn't noticed earlier.
"No! Jamie get off! Let me go!" (Y/n) screamed and made as much noise as she could until a hand clamped down over her mouth and her breaths snuffled through her nose. But she wouldn't stop. Muffled noises vibrated against his palm before she bared her teeth and chomped down as violently as she could until Jamie yelped.
Her body stumbled when Jamie roughly tossed her towards the brick wall and she planted her hands on the crumbling bricks that scraped her palms. She kept herself upright and rapidly turned her head from side to side, looking for a means of escape.
Words tumbled past (Y/n)'s lips as she tried to scramble back towards the end of the alley.
'Help. Help. Fire. Jamie. Help!'
(Y/n) remembered what Eddie had told her. Some people might stop when they heard someone shouting. Others would be more likely to call for help if they heard screams. But everyone would come over if they heard there was a fire. A fire caused harm to more people and put people in danger, people would call for help if they thought there was a fire whereas shouting for help didn't always gain enough attention in enough time.
Another scream belted past her lips when Jamie's fingers tangled in her hair and he wrenched her back with so much force she was sure he had pulled a few clumps of hair loose. (Y/n) had lost enough hair over the years from Jamie pulling it like this, she wasn't willing to let him do it again.
Everything started to spin and her breath got caught in her throat when Jamie roughly slammed her head into the wall. She felt her head splitting apart like a coconut. Blood steadily poured down the left side of her temple and she snapped her eyes closed so none got into her eyes and made her cry tears of blood.
Her knees caved in and she slumped down. She tried to recalibrate her body, get her lungs working, make her ears work, stop the trembles rattling through her. But she could barely breathe. Tears and blood poured down her face and horrid gasps clawed past her lips as she pinned her arms over her face for protection. Her fingers dug into the back of her head. She couldn't take another blunt force to the head. He would knock her out if he did that and God only knew what Jamie would do then.
"Where's that fella of yours, hm? Has he finally left you?"
The words dripped into her ear like poison and had (Y/n) shivering with her knees trembling and scraping against the concrete floor. She was just finally starting to forget what his voice sounded like. His face had faded to a fuzzy, blurred image in her brain.
She was just starting to forget the monster that plagued her and move on from the nightmares he gave her.
Why did he have to bump into her now?
The last time (Y/n) had seen Jamie out in public, Eddie had been with her. As soon as Eddie realised who Jamie was, he broke his nose and pinned him to the nearest wall. Eddie warned him not to go anywhere near (Y/n) and stay clear unless he wanted Eddie to drag him round by his hair and break every bone in his body.
"Get a-away from me!" (Y/n) spat in Jamie's direction, but she could barely keep her eyes in focus.
Why did she come out alone today? Why didn't she ask one of the girls if they could accompany her? Why didn't she cancel her appointment and rearrange for a day that Eddie was off?
The only silver lining (Y/n) had was the fact that her mother had Evie this morning. She couldn't imagine what she would have done if she bumped into Jamie and had Evie with her. (Y/n) didn't know what he would be like around her daughter. She didn't know if he would resort to hurting and frightening Evie or if he would try and use her to his advantage. (Y/n) couldn't run far with Evie and her daughter could have been hurt.
"No." He sneered back with a smile that resembled something out of Hell.
His hand tried to fist in (Y/n)'s hair again but she slapped him across the face. She didn't want his touch or his presence or his horrid words. She wanted him gone. She wanted Eddie. She needed Eddie.
(Y/n) kept her arms over her head and tried to move forward. She tried to push up onto her feet but she cried out when Jamie's hand curled around her left wrist.
"You fucking married him?!"
Oh dear. He'd seen her engagement and wedding rings on her finger. After all those times he told (Y/n) she would never find someone to put up with her. After telling her no one would love her, no one would deal with her antics or her anxiety and paranoia. After telling her 'that guy' would soon leave her.
She had proved him wrong. She had proved Eddie loved her to the ends of the Earth and he married her. (Y/n) had found someone who understood her, loved the bones of her, wanted to always be with her and someone who she now had a baby with. All she wanted was to forget Jamie was ever a part of her past and move forward with Eddie, Chris and Evie.
Why was that too much to ask for?
(Y/n) screamed and wrenched her arms away from Jamie when he tried to prize the rings off her fingers. It was a good job she never took the rings off and they were a perfect fit. They wouldn't come off without a fight and (Y/n) pulled her hands down to her chest before Jamie could take them from her.
"You married that bastard! You left me for him?!"
When she tried to get up, he tackled her back down. He roared like an animal enraged and when (Y/n) fell onto her back, she screamed like a banshee.
Fat tears rolled down her face and she gurgled through choked screams when Jamie slammed his foot down on her wrist.
He'd broken it. She just knew from that horrid popping sound that he had broken or in the very least, fractured the bone. He reared back like he was about to do it again and (Y/n) flailed her arm out behind her. She had to move before he shattered every bone in her body.
Her fingers nudged against something.
She wasn't sure what it was, but she grabbed it and before Jamie could move, (Y/n) slammed whatever it was against the side of his head when he leaned closer. It had been a bottle. The glass collided with the side of his head and shattered into a million tiny pieces that rained down over her and had her closing her eyes tight.
With a loud, crackling scream, (Y/n) smashed what was left of the bottle against Jamie's head again until he flopped onto the concrete beside her.
She didn't have time to waste. She couldn't lay there in agony or try to catch her breath and compose herself. She rolled onto her right side and used her good hand to push up from the floor.
When Jamie twitched, (Y/n) cracked the broken bottle against his temple again. And again. And a third time until he stopped moving.
She knew he was still breathing. He gurgled through each breath and his head lolled to one side. Part of (Y/n) wished he'd stop breathing. She wouldn't resusitate him if he did. She would let him slip away, no one would blame her and she was injured, she couldn't and wouldn't do anything for him.
Blundering cries past through her wet lips as she stumbled onto shaking legs and looked around. Her bag was at the end of the alley. (Y/n) just about made it to her bag and collapsed on her bruised, scraped knees with her shoulders slumped against the wall.
"911, what's your emergency?"
"Help. I- I ne- I need… he hurt me."
"Okay, can I take your name, honey?" The woman's voice was soothing and calm and made (Y/n) take a deep breath to try and gather her senses.
Her eyes flickered behind her towards the limp body laid skewed on the floor. She couldn't say her name unless she knew Jamie was thoroughly unconscious. Her name changed when she married Eddie and that gave her more security and protection away from Jamie. "(Y/n) Diaz."
"(Y/n), where are you calling from? The GPS has you located between two houses on twenty-fifth street."
"The alley."
"Can you tell me who hurt you and what injuries you have? Do you need an ambulance?"
"My head… wrist, I… I hit him w-with a bottle… I want Eddie. He's f-firefighter Diaz, w-with the one-eighteen. Please, please-"
"Okay, don't worry, I've dispatched police to your location and I'll send the one-eighteen to you now."
That was all (Y/n) needed to hear. She dropped the phone onto her lap and leaned her head against the wall, closing her eyes as she began to heave and cry. She didn't want to talk anymore. She didn't want to go through the whole ordeal with dispatch. If it was Maddie on the line, she might have continued to talk.
But the only person (Y/n) wanted was her husband.
***
"Oh Dios. Oh Dios, no." Spanish profanities flew past Eddie's lips and he almost fell down the steps in the truck to get to the pavement.
Why didn't dispatch tell him? Why didn't they tell him the victim in their callout was his wife?
He didn't bother to grab his helmet or a medic bag from the compartment. As soon as his feet hit the floor, Eddie set off in a sprint across the pavement towards the end of the alley. That was his wife sitting on the floor. That was his girl sat sobbing against the wall, hitting her hand out at the poor lady standing nearby who wanted to help but clearly couldn't get near.
"(Y/n)! Baby, baby it's me. Oh Dios, come here."
He slammed down on his knees at the end of the alley and reached his hands out for her. He cupped her face in his hands and tilted her head up off the wall so he could see the damage.
His tongue clicked against the roof of his mouth and his whole body began to shake.
What had happened to her?
Blood was caked onto a very extensive cut on the right side of her temple. It was dried down her face making a trail all the way down her chin and along her neck. She was going to need stitches in her temple from this and her forehead was already beginning to swell up.
A bubbling cry errupted past (Y/n)'s lips when she realised who it was knelt down in front of her. She leaned forward and slumped her head against Eddie's shoulder, breathing in his scent as her nose brushed against his jacket that was hanging off his shoulders.
"Eddie…" She whimpered into his shirt, sniffing and gasping as she leaned forward onto him. She felt his arm around her waist and his other hand gently cupped the back of his neck with his fingers tangling in her hair.
"I'm here, shh." He kissed the top of her head and took a moment to look behind her into the alley.
Someone else was down there.
"Baby, baby girl what happened?" Eddie leaned back on his heels that dug into the back of his thighs and he moved back to cupping (Y/n)'s face in his hands so he could look at her.
"J-Jamie… he attacked me."
(Y/n) began to whimper and hyperventilate when she watched the way Eddie changed in front of her. His chest tensed and puffed out, his shoulders squared up and a violent fire started to blaze within his eyes. If she weren't in front of him right now she was sure he would of combusted.
"Cap, we've got two victims, we'll need another ambulance." Hen leaned around Eddie as she stood behind him with the gurney between her and Chimney. She could see a man collapsed in the alley and he was beginning to stir and twitch.
They couldn't take two casualties in the ambulance, they needed back up to get them both transferred.
But when Hen tried to walk past Eddie, she stopped abruptly when Eddie reached his left hand out to prevent her. The look in his eyes was daring as he tilted his head back to look up at her.
"Leave him."
"Eddie… we have to assess him-"
"Look what he's done to my wife!" Eddie all but roared as he motioned down to his wife, trembling in his arms. Jamie didn't need help, he needed to be arrested. "He leaves here in cuffs or a body bag."
Hen looked over her shoulder and bit down on her lip as she locked eyes with Bobby. If they tried to help him Eddie was going to start a fight. In his eyes, Jamie got what he deserved and he didn't need help. They didn't need to waste their time on him, they needed to look after (Y/n).
But they were first responders, they had a duty to everyone. No matter what the case was or how close they were to the calls, they had to be fair. Unless someone refused treatment, they had to care for anyone they were here to help and Jamie was no exception. They had to give him the bare minimum. They had to assess him and see whether he needed a trip to the hospital or a ride in the police car.
He was going to get arrested either way, whether that was now or later at the hospital. He wasn't getting away with this.
"Eddie, you and Buck get (Y/n) in the ambulance and Chim can drive you. We need to get her out of the street, okay? Me and Hen will wait for the second ambulance and the police." Bobby rested his hand on Eddie's shoulder.
They could take (Y/n), she was their priority, and Bobby would talk to the police and explain the situation.
The team knew about (Y/n)'s past and they could clearly see she had been attacked and fought for her life. They wouldn't let Jamie get away with this, he would get arrested once he was fit and able.
"Yeah, let's get you up, eh?" Evan moved over to Eddie's other side and held his hands out near (Y/n). They needed to get her in the ambulance and sort out her injuries. She had been sat waiting for long enough; help was here now and they had to look after her.
A pang shot through Evan's heart when (Y/n) held her left wrist up towards Eddie. Both men felt their stomachs churning when they noticed how swollen and discoloured it was and how badly she was shaking. It might be broken. He had cut open her temple and broken her wrist.
"Ohh, baby…" Eddie kissed her temple and moved his hands to hold her hips. "Come on, up we go. We're gonna take care of you, it's okay."
(Y/n) leaned her temple against Eddie's shoulder and let him and Evan carefully lift her up to her feet. She couldn't feel her legs below the knees anymore. They were trembling and shaking and her stomach was churning like she was going to be sick.
Her head was pounding and splitting at the seams, her wrist felt like a balloon and everything combined together was utter agony personified. She wanted to rewind time and go back to last night before Eddie went to work. She wanted him to stay home with her and be with the kids and prevent herself from leaving the house this morning.
Tears drenched (Y/n)'s face and she shivered when a low groan in the back of the alley caught all their attention.
Her eyes snapped closed and her hands reached out for Eddie's jacket that she scrunched up in her fists, despite the pain that burned down her arm and wrist. Her knees gave way and she pushed forward with a quiet cry.
Jamie was waking up.
"No- I don- Eddie please-"
(Y/n) leaned her weight into Evan's chest when Eddie moved her towards him. She let Evan take her weight and she felt him wrap his arms around her, hugging her close to his chest as Eddie bolted down the alley.
"Cap!"
Evan sidestepped and eased (Y/n) a few feet away from the alley where a fight was going to break out. He moved her towards the gurney that Chimney wheeled closer and they both carefully got (Y/n) sat down. She was their priority and their patient to care.
Jamie barely had chance to lift his bloodied, dizzy head from the floor before Eddie was hovering over him like an omen of death.
He latched his hands around Jamie's collar, ignoring the remnants of a glass bottle that were scattered all around his neck and chest and the little fragments dug into his head. (Y/n) had to smash him over the head with a bottle to stop him. That was how badly she had to subdue him to get away from him. Eddie was never going to let that go.
He wrenched Jamie up from the floor and threw him against the nearest wall, pinning him there with an arm across his neck and a hand gripping his chin. His tight grip on Jamie's jaw had the shorter man groaning and Eddie slammed his head back into the wall to get his attention.
"I warned you! I fucking warned you to stay away from her!"
He could see Bobby and Hen approaching from the corner of his eye and before they could grab him, Eddie smashed the heel of his right hand up into Jamie's nose. A successful snap echoed off the bricks and a tortured howl sounded like music to Eddie's ears while he watched the blood pour down Jamie's face.
"Eddie that's enough."
"Eddie stop! You can't afford to do this, not now. Not here. Go be with (Y/n) or you'll be taken into custody as well. We will sort this, I promise." Bobby yanked Eddie backwards while Hen stood in front of him and blocked his view.
They couldn't have him doing this. A squad car was on its way down here and if the police saw one of the first responders attacking one of the victims, they would arrest him. They couldn't let Eddie get arrested. It would go on his record, he would have to have a record of conversation at work and it would be on his work file.
It wasn't worth the hassle. He had to think of (Y/n) and go and look after her. He had kids to think about.
With deep, heaving breaths, Eddie nodded and shrugged Bobby's hands off his shoulders. He rolled his shoulders and his neck into place but his hands curled into fists at his sides as he watched Jamie slide down the wall and slump onto the floor.
He leaned around Hen to be level with the scum of a man on the floor.
"Go anywhere near my wife again and I will break you. You'll wish you were dead when I'm finished with you."
Eddie shrugged off their touch when they tried to move him. He could walk just fine on his own and he wasn't going to try anything. He would bide his time and wait until a better opportunity to make Jamie understand that he wouldn't get away with what he'd done.
The anger radiating through him started to dwindle the moment he stormed over to the ambulance. Just one look at (Y/n) had a different kind of flame burning within Eddie and he could feel everything in him start to melt.
If he didn't take that night shift last night. If he swapped his shift or managed to work a different day, this wouldn't of happened. He would of been with her at her appointment, he would of seen Jamie coming and stopped him before he managed to attack (Y/n). They wouldn't be on their way to the hospital right now if Eddie had been with her.
Why didn't he stay home?
He switched places with Chimney and climbed in the back of the ambulance while Chimney headed round to drive.
Eddie shared a silent look with Evan before Eddie looked away and tried to click his mind into focusing on his wife instead. He didn't need to think about what he was desperate to do to Jamie. He didn't need to think about Hen and Bobby getting back in the truck and leaving Jamie there for someone else to find. Someone else to deal with.
"Okay mi amor, let's take a look." With a deep breath, Eddie shed his jacket somewhere behind him and stood up so he could hover beside the gurney.
He carefully held (Y/n)'s chin and tilted her head back so she was looking up at him. He swiped the flashlight from his top pocket and darted it in front of her eyes. They were a bit slow to constrict. With the way her head was swelling and the deep cut, she was going to need an MRI to make sure she didn't have any swelling or any bleeds around the brain.
Turning around, Eddie went through a few drawers and found some cotton swabs, a metal dish and some antiseptic. He snapped on a pair of gloves and stood near (Y/n)'s shoulder while Evan hovered at his side, fiddling with her right hand to give her an IV.
"Do you want some pain relief?"
"Make it codine, she can't have morphine." Eddie didn't bother looking over his shoulder. He kept his gaze on (Y/n) as she sniffed and stared up at him through hiccupping breaths. She was allergic to morphine and cocodamol made her have horrid side effects. "Baby, this is gonna hurt, just try and stay as still as you can, okay?"
(Y/n) tried to nod but she could barely move her head so she settled on lifting her right hand to give Eddie's elbow a squeeze. She moved her hand down and scrunched her fingers around his hip. She needed to hold onto him, any part of him, and both his hands were busy trying to tend to her forehead.
She watched the way Eddie pressed his tongue against his lips in concentration, but the moment a damp cotton swab touched her temple, she cried out. Her body stiffened and pushed back into the gurney and her eyes snapped closed.
"Sorry… baby I'm sorry." He hushed when he felt her pinch his hip to try and stay still.
Eddie began cleaning the side of (Y/n)'s head rather than touching the actual wound yet. He was gentle as he could be but his stomach was doing summersaults at how much blood was caked down her face. He had to press a little firmer to get the dried specks off her cheek and he dared to swipe his thumb across her lips to try and keep her calm.
His knees bent out into the frame of the gurney and he tilted her head to the right so he could clean her neck. Once most of the blood was gone, Eddie straightened up and began dabbing a lot of antiseptic on the wound while (Y/n) hissed and started to shake.
"I can't stitch it up in here baby, we'll have to let the doctors do that." The ambulance was too rickety for Eddie to try do any stitches and he knew (Y/n) would need a lot more pain relief if he were to try.
He carefully stuck a gauze plaster over her left brow, covering the gaping wound until someone at the hospital could tend to it.
"Let me see your wrist."
He noticed Evan had started to cut her leggings at the knees and was carefully cleaning the scrapes across her skin.
When (Y/n) gingerly lifted her left wrist, Eddie winced. Seeing her cry and shake and jerk from the pain made his teeth sink down into his lower lip enough to make it bleed.
"You'll need an X-ray and a cast… do you want me to take your rings off for you?" Eddie knew she would need an X-ray and the doctors wouldn't let her have one if she still had her rings on. Rather than see them hurt her to get the rings off, Eddie would rather try now with some soapy water and then he could keep them safe. He knew (Y/n) wouldn't want the doctors to cut the rings off.
Eddie's face fell when (Y/n) started to cry. She tilted her head back and coiled her arms around her waist as she sobbed.
"Hey, hey, it's okay-"
"H-he tried… he tried to take them." (Y/n)'s eyes cast down to her hand before she looked up at Eddie.
"Your rings?" His lips formed a frown and his eyes narrowed as he tried to think. Why would Jamie try and take her rings? He wasn't exactly a mugger. He wanted to hurt (Y/n), he always wanted to hurt her for leaving him and not doing as he said or going against him.
But then it dawned on him when Evan leaned over and murmured "Did he know she's married?" In his ear. They hadn't been married the last time they saw Jamie, they had only been engaged.
"I don't w-wanna t…take them off. Eddie please," (Y/n) tried to run her fingers over the back of her left hand but she cringed and pulled back. Even touching her hand made jolts of electricity shoot underneath her skin. She didn't want to take her rings off. They were hers. She hadn't removed them for anything since the moment Eddie proposed. (Y/n) slept in her rings, she never took them off.
"I'll keep them safe, mi amor. You need an X-ray, and as soon as it's done I'll put them back on your finger myself."
He leaned down and kissed her cheek and gently brushed away a tear when she nodded. She had to have her hand checked and possibly set back in place and Eddie wouldn't let the doctors cut her ring off or hurt her trying to remove them when he could do it himself.
"Good girl," He murmured against her lips, stealing a quick kiss before he got a fresh cotton swab and squeezed some water around (Y/n)'s fingers.
It was rather easy to twist the rings around and slide them off (Y/n)'s finger. He was glad he'd done it now because the swelling was working its way up her hand and he could tell her fingers were going to swell up soon. This way, her hand could swell and then settle down and they wouldn't risk her circulation being cut off to her finger.
Eddie was tempted to put the rings in his back pocket, but somehow that didn't feel safe and he dared not lose them. He hooked both rings on his little finger and reached beneath his collar to find his chain with the Saint Christopher pendant.
It didn't take long for Eddie to unhook the chain, slide the rings on and clip it back up. "There, safe and sound."
Something resembling a smile tugged at Eddie's lips when (Y/n) dragged her free hand over his collar. He let her pull his collar down and undo a few buttons so she could glide her fingertips over the chin and cause the rings to sway back and forth against his chest.
But his smile began to fade when (Y/n)'s eyes rolled to the back of her head and she groaned. "I f-feel sick."
"Okay, hang tight." He snatched a paper bowl from the counter and held it in front of her.
When she leaned forward, Eddie swooped his right arm behind her shoulders and pressed his lips to the back of her head as she threw up. That was a definite sign of concussion and Eddie prayed she didn't have any sort of swelling on or around her brain. Or a bleed. The last thing she needed was an operation to drain any bleeding on the brain.
They all felt the ambulance roll to a stop so Eddie laid the paper bowl on (Y/n)'s lap just in case she needed to throw up again. And he found a paper towel, soaked it in water and pressed it over her eyes when she flopped her head back. The emergency room was bright and that wasn't going to do her any favours.
Eddie was grateful when Chimney and Evan began to move the gurney. It left Eddie free to hold (Y/n)'s right hand and card his fingers through her hair as they wheeled her through into the emergency room.
Chimney leaned across and on three, he and Eddie carefully transferred (Y/n) over onto the bed in the middle of the end cubicle they were guided into.
"Who have we got?"
Evan placed his hands on his hips as he stood near the end of the bed and turned towards the nurse. "Uh, (Y/n) Diaz. Suspected broken wrist, bad concussion, massive cut to the temple." He reeled off the injuries but he couldn't drag his eyes away from the couple in front of him.
(Y/n) had been through enough. Why did Jamie have to go and do this to her? Why now? Why approach her at all when he knew he wouldn't get away with it?
Eddie slumped down on the side of the bed and dragged his fingers through his hair while his other hand was tightly clenched in (Y/n)'s fist.
He almost jumped off the bed when (Y/n) jerked forward as soon as a nurse tried to lean over her. "I just need to check your vitals-"
"No."
The wet paper towel flopped onto (Y/n)'s legs and she blinked furiously to try and get her eyes back into focus. She flung her hand out at the nurse, batting her away when she leaned over with two monitoring stickers. She didn't want those on her chest or a clip on her finger to check her pulse. She didn't want anyone touching her but Eddie. (Y/n) didn't want to be assessed or poked and prodded. She wanted Eddie to take her home.
"Baby, it's okay, you're safe."
"No!" (Y/n) swung her left hand out at the nurse causing her to drop whatever was in her hand.
Shockwaves rattled through her wrist and up to her arm when it clashed with the bedframe and she cried out, pushing herself forward into Eddie's chest. Her nails scratched into his shoulders and her face smothered into the side of his neck so harshly that Eddie was sure she wasn't going to be able to breathe.
She clung to him tighter when he curved an arm around her waist and moved his other hand to cradle the back of her neck. He began to sway them both from side to side while his lips meshed into her hair.
"Shh, it's okay, I promise everything's okay. I won't let anything happen to you."
He knew what they were going to have to do. They were going to have to sedate (Y/n) to stitch her up and send her for an X-ray and an MRI. That was the only way anyone other than Eddie was going to get near her.
He continued to sway them from side to side, his lips murmuring quiet words into her hair that (Y/n) could barely register.
"I'm gonna kill him for this."
Eddie Diaz x reader - for you
Reader and Eddie have been together for a while and in a soft moment he suddenly calls her mi amor for the first time. - Anon💜
Eddie had been having a hard time at work lately and you knew that, between everything with work, and trying to help his son as much as possible he was overworked.
He was tired.
Stressed.
And he needed some time to relax, so that’s what you arranged.
You had asked Buck to look after Christopher for the afternoon, and while you were waiting for Eddie to get home you got everything else ready.
You had made him some lunch, you had some fresh clean clothes laid out for him, a movie on the Tv and a few other things.
And while you were waiting for him to get back to his home, you decided to spend some time working on the list of chores he had but never had time to do.
Most of it was stuff you could do, so you focused on them, leaving all the rest for a later date when you could ask one of your friends to come help you.
You had to go out to do some things for your work, so you grabbed some paper and a pen, and you left him a note telling him you’d be back soon.
Eddie knew you had asked Buck to watch Christopher, so he decided to just head home to shower and change and meet up with them.
As he got in, he noticed how his hallway had been sorted and organised.
The crooked coat hooks that fell the day before were fixed, and everything put back on it.
“(Y/N)?” He called.
He wondered if you were still there, but when you didn’t reply he assumed you had left.
So he carried on.
His dishes were done, washing was done and folded into a basket.
There was a film on his tv and some snacks on the table, and he walked to the bedroom.
You had laid him out some comfortable clothes and a towel and he smiled to himself.
After a shower, he went into the kitchen to get a drink and found your note explaining you had to go out but you’d be back later.
Smiling to himself, he heated up the food you had made and sat down to watch the film.
Without realising Eddie had fallen asleep, and that’s how you found him when you came back in.
With a smile, you walked over and laid him down, resting his head on your sweater, on your went to get a blanket to cover him up.
“(Y/N)…?” He mumbled.
You smiled, crouching in front of him.
Running your fingers through his hair you leant down and kissed his cheek.
“It’s me sweetheart, get some sleep, I’ll get Christopher soon.”
He turned on his side and he looked at you with tired eyes.
“You’ve been busy…” he mumbled.
“Not as busy as you, you need some rest.”
He hummed a little and reached for you hand.
“Lay with me…?”
Laughing softly, you helped him sit up, then you laid down, and he laid on you, tucking his head under your chin.
Eddie covered you both up with the blanket and you played with his hair.
“Thank you…”
“You deserve a break love, I’ll happily do it again.”
“I don’t deserve you…”
You lightly slapped his arm.
“Don’t say that, you deserve the whole world and more.”
Eddie laughed softly, and he kissed your jaw.
He yawned a little and settled against you, slowly falling asleep again.
“I love you Mi Amor…”
You blinked in shock, and you smiled brightly to yourself.
“I love you too…”
i'll be the ship, i'll be the shore
for @118bigbang
“Daddy!” Ellie calls for him, and Buck spins around, smile stretching over his face. “Ellie!” he calls back, opening his arms and crouching a little so he can catch her when she takes a leap. He spins her around once before he sets her back down onto her feet. “Hi, sweetheart, how was school?” “It was good,” she says, slipping her small hand into his. “But I’m excited to go home.” “Yeah?” he asks. “Because we’re hanging out with the Diazes?” She grins up at him. “Yes! And because we’re making lasagna.” Buck laughs, and, over his shoulder, calls to Eddie and Christopher, “You guys hear that? You’re gonna have to compete with the lasagna for Ellie’s attention.” “Ohh, lasagna,” Christopher says dreamily, and Buck and Eddie grin at each other. ~ in a world where buck has a daughter christopher’s age, he first meets eddie at their kids’ school. things progress from there.
What about the first time with Eddie? 👉👈
I imagine he’s a bit hesitant at first, but once you get into it he’s a lot more vocal and enthusiastic, even tries riding you
Nothing Compares
Pairing: Eddie Diaz x Top Male reader
Content tags: 18+, MINORS DNI, anal fingering, riding, rimming, porn with feelings
A/n: pls excuse any mistake and ooc moments, I redid a huge part of it earlier today and I have been kind of working on this for days so I’ve become blind to the smaller details rip anyway than u sm for your request and I hope you enjoy it! (Also look at that banner I’m so proud)
“You know,” you begin, voice ever so gentle as you caress his bare skin “we don’t have to do this if you don’t want to, I’m perfectly fine with just kissing or watching movies or whatever you’d want to do instead”
“I want to,” he says, tone firm and eyes full of confidence. “You’ve done so much for me, for my son, for us, I trust you,” he says before gently cupping your face and kissing your lips.
He only pulls back far enough to rest his forehead onto yours, noses brushing together as he once again repeats his words “I trust you,”
You look at him, eyes filled with tears before you blink them back and kiss him firmly on the lips
“I love you so much” you say in between kisses, feeling a flood of emotion bubbling up in your gut when you hear him giggle.
“I love you too” There’s a soft smile on his face as he meets your gaze, eyes swirling with emotion that you’re sure can be found in your own irises.
He says one last thing before he allows you to strip the clothes off the two of you.
“Just….you know.. go easy on me” he says, teeth nervously nibbling on his bottom lip.
“Always”
Eddie’s sprawled out on your bed, legs spread apart and knees tucked into his chest.
From where you lay you can see his dark locks splayed out onto his pillow case.
As you drag your gaze along his throat, you see the way his St. Christopher necklace spills onto his collarbones and the way it glimmers from where the light hits it.
You continue to trail your gaze down the valley of his peck and onto his abdomen where his hard cock lays.
Eventually your eyes land upon puckered hole, and you can’t help the thought that occurs.
Beautiful, so beautiful, you think to yourself before you swipe your tongue along the cleft of Eddie’s ass, eyes peering up at him to see the way his head lolls back, and he lets out a gasp. “Oh- oh God”
“You alright?” You say, voice sounding breathy and strained.
“Yes,yes I’m good, just- just keep going” he says voice sounding just as breathy and strained.
You deliver another broad stroke with your wet tongue before slowly circling his puckered hole, feeling his heels dig into your back as he claws at the mattress.
“Ah fuck!” He cries out, and lifts his head to meet your gaze. “Don’t- don’t tease please “
You only hum in response, before slowly working your tongue into the tight ring of muscles.
“God oh god! ” Eddie cries out, head trashing side to side, as his heels dig further down into your back.
Drool’s dribbling down the cleft of his ass, eager finger leaving marks on his skin and his musky scent engulfs your senses as you continue to lick into him.
Slowly but surely the tight channel becomes ever so unresisting under your tongue , and with each swipe, Eddie seems closer to losing his mind
“More, more more please i need more,” he sobs out, hands frantically clawing at the mattress.
But instead of doing as he says, you stop and pull away, leaving him looking absolutely bewildered. “No, no, no, why did you stop?!“
“Shh, sweetheart, I won’t leave you hanging, you know I won’t” you say, as you kiss his thighs in reassurance “Would you mind getting the lube for me? It’s on the drawer to the left”
You can’t help but smile at the way he almost jumps up to get the bottle, hair in complete disarray and sheets clinging onto his limbs, even almost falling face first onto the floor when he rolls back onto the bed.
You take the bottle from him, a small thanks slipping past your lips as you pour a generous amount into the palm of your hand “You still okay? We can stop at any moment” you say while warming the lube up between your fingers.
“No please don’t stop” he says almost too quickly and you can’t help but chuckle at his eagerness.
Your hands find his legs again, propping them up and tucking his knees into his chest before your finger finds his rim, and gently circle it.
Eddie’s eyes flutter shut, body relaxing into the sheets as a breathy sigh escapes his lips.
“Mm that’s - that’s really nice” he says, voice slightly cracking as he speaks and you can’t help the endeared smile on your face as you look down at him.
Cute
You continue circling his puckered hole, relaxing the muscle as much as possible before sliding the tip of your finger inside him.
Immediately you feel goosebumps raise on his skin where you’re resting your hand on him , body slightly tensing as a shaky breath escapes his lips
“You okay?” You ask, stopping your movements complety to look up at him.
“Mm just- just- go slow yeah?,” he says body still tense as he runs a shaky hand through his hair.
“Of course“you say as before you gently work the tight ring of muscles, eyes glued to his and gauging his reaction.
He continues to take deep breathes, eyes squeezed shut and hands clinging onto the mattress but as soon as you’re down to the second knuckle of your index finger you hear soft moan rolling off of his lips “Mm ah- just just - just like that ”
“Feels good?” You ask as you you continuously massage the wall of nerves under your fingertips.
He looks down at you, eyes half lidded, and mouth agape while nodding his head “So so good, keep going please”
Slowly but surely you work a second finger into him, altering between grazing the wall of nerves and scissoring your fingers.
“Oh, oh god, please, please please” he whines out, almost grinding down onto your hand.
“Just wait a bit, yeah? I promised I’d take care of you didn’t I? Just let me do so yeah? I’ll take such good care of you I promise” You say while continuously moving your fingers inside him.
He almost wants to protest but agrees anyway, body relaxing into the sheets as he allows you to whatever you want with him
“Good boy” you coo before working a third finger inside of him, drawing more moans out of him and watching the way precum pools on his abdomen.
Eventually the last bit of patience trickles out of Eddie, body thrashing under your grip as pleas continuously tumble past his lips “Come on come on come on im ready please just please fuck me” he whines out, arm thrown over his eyes as his heels dig into your back.
You chuckle at his eagerness but gently slide your fingers out of him, watching the way he winces before a look of anticipation makes its way on his face.
You make quick work of getting the condom and the bottle of lube from earlier, pulse roaring in your ears as you shuffle closer to him, and hands shaking as you roll the condom onto your dick. But you stop completely in your step, hearing yourself take a shaky breath as you take in the sight of the man sprawled out your bed.
“Maybe I need a moment “ you say more to yourself, letting out a laugh before resting your head onto one of his thighs.
He chuckles at that, before you feel his hand trace soothing patterns onto your back. “Take your time” he says, sounding playful but endeared as well.
There’s a moment where the only sound that can be heard is the fluttering from the fan, along with the random assortment of noises coming from outside the window.
His hand is a welcome weight on your body, skin ever so warm as it presses against your cheek and slowly but surely you feel the tension bleeding out your body.
You slowly raise your head to meet his gaze, and as you do you see the way he’s nibbling on his lip while his eyes shift around the room as if preparing himself to ask you something.
“Hey hey hey, is something the matter?” You say with a confused look on your face while giving a gently squeeze to his leg.
Eddie shifts on the bed, Adam’s apple bobbing as he nervously swallows before he finally says something.
“Can I ,, I mean I’d like to you know…ride you,” he says, before he turns his gaze away, teeth sinking into his bottom lip and nervously nibbling on it again.
You blink at him in surprise, before you let out a groan, loud enough to slightly startle the other man.
“Good god Eddie you’re going to be the death of me” you say head burying back into his leg. You immediately feel the tension bleed out his body as a laugh tumbles past his lips.
“So is that a yes?” He says, still sounding a bit bashful while tracing random patterns onto your skin.
“Fuck, yeah, yeah that’s okay with me how do you want me?” you say as you scurry to get off of him.
“Eager” he teases, seemingly much more relaxed now. “Lay down on your back,” he says while gesturing for you to lay down where the headboard is.
“You don’t even know,” you say in response to his comment, not even wasting a second before you lay sprawled out on the bed with a pillow under your head.
He easily straddles your waist, hands resting on your chest to brace himself.
The unsure look bleeds back onto his face, hands fiddling on your chest as he chews on his bottom lip again.
“Eddie,” you say tone as firm as your grip on his hips. “I’m not expecting anything show stopping here. It’s just me and you spending some time together like we always do, just with a little less clothes on” you say with a chuckle but squeezing his hips to bring home your point. “And like I said if you’re not sure about this yet we can just do something else,” you say with a gentle smile on your face, hand reaching out to brush away the hair from his eyes.
He’s quiet for a moment, eyes following your hand before he grabs ahold of your wrist, voice as firms as his hold when he speaks “I want to but,” he pauses, and harshly swallows before he speaks again “I’m -you know uh new to this so please bear with me,” he says before he lines your tip up with his hole, and slowly pushes it past his puckered rim.
“Jesus christ!,” you grunt out, feeling as if your breath’s been punched out of your lungs.
Eddie takes a shaky breath, hands adjusting on your chest as he continues to lower himself.
“You alright?” You say through a strained breath, thumb gently caressing his hip.
“Yeah” he manges to say, brows pinched together and mouth agape as he continues to lower himself.
“Just like that baby, keep going, you can do it, I know you can” you say through gritted teeth, eyes fluttering shut and doing your best not to buck up into him.
Finally he bottoms out, your balls now firmly pressed against his ass, and he lets out a mewls at the feeling of being so stretched out around your cock.
“You alright?” Eddie asks you, throwing his words back to you, with a shaky smiles on his face while adjusting his hands on your chest.
“Jesus Christ, i'm more than alright, feels - ah feels so so good baby, you don’t even know how good you’re making me feel '' you say between labored breaths, thumb gently caressing his hip again “What about you, pretty ? How do you feel?”
“Feels, feels ah so full” he mewls out while experimentally rocking his hips.
“Ah fuck!” You cry out, head lolling back as you slightly buck up “dont- don’t think I’ll be able to last long- already- already feels so fucking good”
Eddie slowly starts picking his hips up, working himself up your cock only to slam himself back down again”Ah- ah God!” Eddie gasps out, back arching when he gets the angle just right.
“Fuck just like that Eddie, fuck yourself on my cock,” you grunt out, eyes fluttering shut as you buck up to meet his thrusts.
Slowly but surely he becomes more confident, his movements becoming much more pronounced as he loses himself in pleasure.
“Feels so so good” he moans out, head lolling back, moving so fast he’s basically bouncing on your lap.
Once again you can’t help but admire him, from the way his dark locks stick to his forehead, to the way his St. Christopher's necklaces dangles over your face, even in the way his defined abdomen glistens from the precum that’s smeared all over it.
“Close so close please” he moans out, and those words manage to snap you out of your daze as your hands tighten on his hips while bucking up into him again.
“Come on pretty you can do it, I know you can. Make yourself cum on my cock just like I know you can” you say before wrapping one hand around his dick and stroking him, that’s all it takes for him to starts unraveling, coming with a cry and spurting ropes of cum on both your abdomens, with you tightly following close by.
Once the two of you clean up and get back into bed, a comfortable silence falls over you as you bask in each other’s presence.
Suddenly Eddie bursts out laughing and as you meet his gaze, you burst out laughing as well.
“Fuck I love you,” you say through a breathy laugh before you pull the sheets over the two of you.
“Love you too,” he says as he places a kiss to your chest, before his eyes flutter shut and his breathing slows down.
Nothing compares to this, you think to yourself before you drift of to dreamland.
summary: request
eddie diaz x reader
gif from @housewifebuck
a/n: this request is from quite some time ago, but it’s been in the drafts for too long! i apologize and hope you enjoy <3 also this is not proofread btw 😭
each hit to her body ricocheted through her muscles, feeling the marks and scars form on her skin. it was a foreign feeling, one of fear and pain. y/n was helpless on the ground of the alley, and there was nothing she could do.
her heartbeat thumped in her ears, and she was horrified that she might not even look the same, let alone be the same. she faces things like this every single day, saving someone’s life but she could barely manage to save her own.
she only wanted to bring home food for chris and eddie, her beloved ones who instantly became her family. she was almost like a mother to christopher, and he was connected to her as she was always there for him.
the moment eddie proposed to y/n, he knew that there would be no hesitation. he had never felt this way about a woman before, let alone want to live with her until their hair turned grey. every single part of y/n left eddie enamored, just falling for her all over again. her persistence and attitude was nothing but precious to him, and he couldn’t help but love every part of her.
he waited for her to come home, knowing that she would be stopping at the grocery store. it was late, the sky dark and the streets only illuminated by the street lamps. he knows how tough she is, and she’d be ok. so, he patiently waited at home with his son, the worries in the far back of his head.
as y/n’s body was dragged about and penetrated with sharpness, all she could think about was her fiancé and stepson at home. the two people she loves most in this world. it was so hard not to give up and let these criminals take her life, but she knew neither of them could deal with her life being stripped away.
let alone the 118. bucks been her best friend since day one, being the first supporter of her and eddie’s relationship. he completely adores her and her humor, along with her strong work ethic. ravi has always looked up to her from the moment he stepped into the station on his first day. she assisted him and taught him with kindness, but didn’t go easy on him. she’s the reason that ravi is the firefighter he is, and he idolizes her for that, in and out of work. hen and chimney have been alongside her, running into each building and saving a civilian. she was almost too good to be true, and the people who attacked her had no idea.
the men heard the crumbling of rocks underneath tires, and scurried away into the midnight. y/n was left there to rot, laying on the hard ground and feeling herself bleed out. her entire body was in agony, but it was nothing compared to the thought of losing herself.
her weak fingers traveled to her pockets, taking out her phone with a shattered screen. surprisingly, the group wasn’t smart enough to steal it, and she thanked god for it. her blurry vision was tempting her, minutes away from fading into complete darkness. her mind was shrouded with negativity, but a flicker of hope came in when she heard maddies voice on the other side of the phone.
“maddie.” y/n groans, practically inaudible. maddie freezes at the letters of her name leave this woman’s mouth, being strictly confused but also horrified. “y/n.”
the slightly collection of blood in her mouth made the words jumble together, maddie using every ounce of brain power to put the pieces together.
“i’m sorry, i didn’t-“ the light goes off in maddies brain, finally being able to put the letters together, forming y/n’s name. “y/n?” she hears a painful groan of agreement from the muffled earpiece. “can you tell me exactly what happened?”
“they tried to kill me,” y/n informs her, slowing her breathing but it only makes her head spin faster. her eyes are closed, fighting the unconsciousness that’s begging to take over. “maddie, i’m not gonna be able to stay awake, but… i-i’m somewhere near the interchange.”
“y/n, honey, you have to try and stay awake for me, okay?” maddie begs, her eyes filling with moisture as she hears y/n’s small voice come through the phone in stutters. “y/n?” the phone lands over her torso, beginning to be stained with blood as y/n’s mind is shrouded in black, unable to process anything any longer.
eddie sat in the living room with christopher, watching a show for chris to practice his spanish. they were both invested in the plot, but also trying to expose christopher to the language.
eddie adored nights like this with his son. christopher is his sun, and his world revolves around him. he protects christopher with every ounce of his being, and there’s not a moment where he regrets any of it. the room was dimmed, the wick of the candle radiating a sweet smell as the words on the tv came through.
there was excitement in his mind as well, knowing y/n would be home soon to greet them. her alluring smile would be seen the moment she stepped in the door, and her bewitching voice became music to the boys. instead, when he heard others car doors slam, he was confronted with silence from his front door afterwards.
the next 15 minutes passed slowly but surely, and there were no signs of y/n coming home. he checked his phone only to find no messages or calls. his thoughts began to run through everything that could’ve happened, and he attempted to focus on the brighter ones. he finally heard the knock on the door, the pounding coming off assertive. somehow, he still wanted to find optimism and it could’ve been y/n.
when the door swung open, a burly man who was slightly taller than eddie stood in front of him. he had on a jacket with the LAPD, and eddie’s heart fell at the look on his face. it was blank on the outside, but eddie could tell he was here to deliver something horrid. he listened as the officer deeply uttered his first and last name, christopher lifting his head to the door at the unfamiliar voice.
in this line of work, eddie knew exactly why the man was here. “where is she?” eddie’s voice crackles, showing weakness when he’s so used to being strong.
the ride to the hospital was silent, deafening silence that only turned up the volume on eddie’s fears. the chugged through his head like a train on tracks, and he could barely see straight. he had absolutely no idea what to expect, only knowing that his girl was in the hospital. for all he could know, she could be wide awake or she could be in the morgue.
it felt like someone had grasped his heart, restricting him from breathing as he saw the almost empty waiting room. he desperately looked for anyone, finally landing his eyes on maddie.
“maddie!” he shouts, stomping over to her in anxiety. “what the hell happened?”
“i got a call,” maddie told him, her voice shaky and uncertain. “i could barely even tell who it was -her voice was so different- she told me that they tried to… they tried to kill her.” maddie mumbles the last part out, not wanting to imagine her closest friend’s life being taken.
the room started becoming blurry, all sights and sounds around eddie becoming irrelevant. it felt like he was the only person in the room, and someone from above was pointing and laughing at him. it was like a gunshot, being thrown back at the sudden force, or in this case, the sudden news that someone had attempted murder on y/n.
“i called buck, he’s on his way,” maddie says, fidgeting with her hands as she looks into eddie’s distant eyes. “eddie, sit down-“
“what room is she in?”
“i don’t know if you want to see her like this so fa-“
“maddie, i love you like a sister, but if you don’t tell me what room she’s in, i swear…”
“she’s in 319,” and that was the last thing eddie heard before taking wide steps through the hallways, his feet swiftly carrying him through the hospital as he eyes the door numbers. 316, 317, 318, and the one that held y/n inside. he prepared himself for the worst, but nothing could compare to actually seeing it.
each cut on her face was surrounded by a thick bruise disguising her angelic features. her soft, welcoming expression was replaced with discomfort and tightness. her eyes were tired and screwed shut, begging to remain closed and her lips were tightly coiled around the thick tube down her throat. the mechanical breaths pumped through her body, and eddie only hurt himself more with every step he took to her room.
she heard the thumping of footsteps down the hall, and prayed that it was eddie on his way to save her. she wanted him to just pick her up and they could run away, live their life and forget about all that happened that evening. she wanted to smile, but the look on his face was only disappointing.
his face looked as if someone had landed a punch to his gut, leaving his stomach dropping and shakiness building through his hands. he could barely figure out the words to say. his beautiful girl, the one he lays with at night and the one who kisses him with her soft lips. the one who he cries to and laughs with, and someone tried to steal it.
she had a long, white cast over her leg, being slightly elevated in the bed. he could see the bandages all over her body, and the thick wrap of gauze around her belly. he didn’t have any idea what to say, and it brought eddie back to the former years.
before he and y/n dated, shannon had passed away as eddie watched the life leave her eyes. he felt everything, the guilt, the grief, the anger. it took too long for things to return, but he never, ever wanted to experience that again. he couldn’t do it, he couldn’t manage to push through losing y/n.
y/n wanted to move so bad, she used all fibers of her muscles to try and bring herself up to meet eddie, but she was only met with his frozen figure staring down at her own. someone had put chains on her body, restricting her from moving or speaking, let alone open her eyes. she wanted to be caught while she was falling, but was just left dangling in the air without a hand to grab onto. just by the aura eddie reflects, she knew he was there.
he stepped closer, running his smooth fingers down her rough wounds, brushing her silky hair down. the hissing of her intubation flooded the silent room, realizing that it’s the only thing keeping her alive.
the door had remained open, the doctor entering the room and knocking on the open door. he stepped out and stood in front of the bed, carrying binders and charts in his arms. he looked through them, explaining each familiar term to eddie as he went down the list of y/n’s injuries. the doctor knew eddie well, him returning to the hospital to drop off a patient, or god forbid a patient himself. he let eddie sit alone next to her in the room, watching the very small movements of her chest.
the next person came rushing in, much faster than the doctor had. buck swung the door open, maddie trailing behind him in hesitation to see her friend like this.
“jesus,” buck whispers under his breath, stepping closer to eddie who’s elbows kneel on his knees. “you holding up?”
“i’m fine,” eddie tells his friend, fully aware he’s far from it. his eyes wander down to the ring in maddies hand, the one eddie remembers shining in the little box. it’s been years, but with their schedules, they could never find a date. they found their perfect venue and time, and y/n was so excited. now, it was questioned whether or not she would even make it to their wedding.
“i’ll call her family and take care of stuff for her and work,” buck assists, patting eddie’s shoulder before moving back out of the room with his cell phone. maddie takes this opportunity to step closer to eddie, and try to touch his heart to help ease the pain.
“you need to eat, or walk for a bit, eddie.” maddie tells him, lightly throwing her arms up and receiving zero glances from him. when she notices the distance in his eyes, she knows exactly what he needs. “eddie!”
he perks up, looking into maddies soothing eyes and seeing her begin to walk toward the door. “she’ll be ok for a minute, please just come with me.” she pleads, finally achieving to get eddie out of the uncomfortable hospital chair.
eddie follows maddie through the halls like he’s just a kid, letting his mother lead him through. it was a strange feeling, one that was out of his control. the control that he’s so used to having. maddie sauntered casually through the thick white walls and metal stretchers in the halls. she looked up and down the stretch of area, seeing no nurses or doctors. she swung open the storage closet, yanking eddie in and standing in front of the door. she leaned against it, looking into eddie’s exhausted eyes. they were so close to breaking, and maybe that’s exactly what he needed.
“it’s ok to let yourself take a break.” maddie says to eddie, watching him place his hands on his hips and allow his tired eyes to well up. “do whatever you have to. scream, cry, lay on the ground, throw those lap pads. it’s clear as day that you’re about to fall apart and you can’t carry this weight and be there for her at the same time.”
he spun around, spitting out a dry chuckle and losing the eye contact. he couldn’t face it, he couldn’t handle someone watching him look so weak. however, when maddie turned around, he knew that she was safe, and that he was too.
first, his breathing starts to pick up along with the sharp burning in his nostrils. it was as if the gears of an attack started turning, and eddie knew now that there was nothing to stop them.
his hands began to shake, messily frizzing his gelled hair as his fingers ran through it. his already tightened chest had began to feel like it was being crushed, and someone was wrapping their strong fingers around his heart.
the tears started coming in constant streams down his cheeks, leaving shiny residue on the soft skin. he tasted the salty cries on his lips whenever he took a deep inhale. with a strange sensation, there’s a feeling of lightness throughout his body. he knows too well that y/n remains helpless in the other room, but he also knows that he can’t control it.
in such a simply way, eddie cries. he cries for his son, who he knows is going to be completely shredded by the news of y/n’s condition. he cries for her parents, thinking about someone’s little girl in that bed. he cries for himself, watching his beloved fiancé lose herself. of course, he cries for y/n and how everything she loves has vanished due to the villains in this world.
when maddie turns back around, eddie is hunched over with his head in his hands. his fingers aggressively swipe at his eyes and cheeks, trying to rid any signs of upset in his face. maddie gives him the smallest, but the most reassuring smile that he’s gotten in a while. she opens the door, stepping out and they both walk back to y/n’s room.
eddie didn’t want christopher to see y/n so vulnerable like this. y/n had been a role model to chris since the day he met her, becoming an instant prized person in his life. christopher knew y/n was hurt, buck being the one to break the news as eddie physically couldn’t form the words. a few days had passed, and christopher still had not seen y/n, or barely even known what happened. someone did something bad, and that’s the only thing he could handle hearing.
christopher begged to see y/n to his dad, who tried to hide the situation from him as long as possible. he allowed eventually, becoming aware of the unfairness, and that christopher deserves to see favorite person, too.
buck walked into the doors with christopher, eddie meeting them at the front. eddie had become more accustomed to the sight of y/n on the bed, and her limp figure resting silently. he couldn’t help but let out a cheesy grin at his son, seeing him excitedly walk in to see y/n.
“dad!” he shouts, stepping closer to eddie who then embraces him.
“hey, chris!” he replies, thrilled to see his boy after the past few days from hell.
“is y/n better yet?” he asks, and the naivety almost breaks eddie.
“uh, not yet, buddy,” eddie mumbles. “she’s still sleeping.”
“can i please see her?”
“you can, of course, but christopher,” eddie kneels down to match his height, placing his hands on christopher’s sides. “i want you to know that she doesn’t look normal right now. it’s okay to be scared.”
“are you scared?”
eddie looks at the ground, not wanting his son to see him in his moment of weakness. he looks at buck, who wears the matching expression of glumness on his face. “yeah, i am. but, it’s going to be ok.” he takes christopher to the room, greeting everyone else who came to visit her.
hen leans against the wall of the room, toward the end of her bed. chim sits against the window, a grimace formed on his lips. ravi had come to visit, only being able to watch y/n on the small mattress. bobby watched, painfully, from the corner as well. athena had stopped by, but she was still on duty and had to leave.
christopher walked in, stepping up toward the bed and seeing a smile form on everyone’s face. they adore him, but he doesn’t understand how they can smile right now. “can she hear me?”
“i think she can,” hen replies, giving another grieving, but comforting expression
“y/n,” he begins. “i know you’re really hurt, but we all need you to come back. it’s not your fault, but you have to come back to us, and dad. everyone is here for you, and we all love you. you’ve always taken care of me, and i need you. you can’t let the bad guys win.”
eddie leans against the doorframe, his hand over his mouth and tears sprinting back down his face. he attempts to choke back the audible sobs, but the silent weeping in the corner almost felt worse.
the days passed, slow and agonizing days of seeing her only linear condition. it felt like nothing was going anywhere, until the doctors came in to check her on the week mark.
“her brain function is looking pretty good, it’s honestly best that the coma saved some of it. her heart rate looks extraordinary, and her white blood cell count is good, mr. diaz.”
the good news comes light as a feather to eddie, barely touching the optimism in his head. he knows he should be happy, but until he sees that beautiful face that he calls his awake and alert, nothing will be the same. he knew he should be grateful that she’s even breathing, but what he would give to be able to bring her back to the surface and hold his hand.
as much as it stung his heart, life continued without y/n’s consciousness. he had a child who had needs, a family who had needs, the person inside of him that also had needs. he was too smart to know that he was destroying himself every minute that he spent next to her brittle body. maddie swore to spend every second with her that eddie couldn’t be.
she sat besides her, spoke to her, told her stories and read her books. maddie always let y/n cry on her shoulder, now it was maddie weeping on her bedside. hours ticked by on the shiny hospital clocks, and the sun crept down and dimmed the sky along with the room. maddies eyes were pushed with weight, her own sleepiness covering her thoughts. she allowed herself to slump back on the chair, pulling her legs up and her breathing began to shallow, lulling herself to sleep.
the next time she awoke was around six in the morning, the morning sky slowly being illuminated by the orange sunrise. the light outside was glorious, the painting on the horizon better than any artist could create. the swift streaks of clouds only simply covered the sliver of sun peeking out.
when maddie stretched out her arms, she smiled at the warm colors outside the big glass window, she searched around the room, noticing the soft sound of fabric shuffling on the bed.
it was almost like a ghost had appeared and laid in the bed, moving itself around over the sheets. maddie directed her eyes closer, seeing y/n’s fragile fingers twitch and run over the smooth bed.
“y/n?” maddie asks, her voice still weak from her slumber. she begins to sit up, faster than before, to examine y/n’s face. there’s a brighter color to her features, her cheeks became more pigmented and she looked more full. she didn’t just look like another body in the hospital, waiting for her heart to give up on itself.
the more words that left maddie’s mouth, the more flickering she saw on y/n’s face. her heart was pounding against her chest, feeling the anxiety rise through her spine. “hey, y/n.” she whispers, giving a reassuring squeeze to her hand. after a few moments that felt like centuries, y/n’s eyelashes fluttered a bit, and her red, tired irises were finally revealed again.
eddie was laying on the couch, unable to sleep in the bed that once held the couple together. it felt eerily cold without her, his hand subconsciously floating over to run a hand over her back, only to be confronted with the chilly satin. he never wanted to leave y/n, but he also know that she would never want him to fall apart in the hospital watching her. he so badly wanted his eyes to finally shut, being able to give him even an hour of rest. someone had their fingers holding open his eyes, painting horrible images in his mind.
he turned on his back, his arm behind his head and staring into the bumpy, popcorn ceilings of his home. the home he shares with his son and his fiancée, the two people he cherishes the most. now, it was filled with darkness and loss and he prayed that he could get it back.
something grabbed ahold of his mind, halting his thoughts with the blaring noise of his ringtone. when he saw the ID of maddie illuminate his phone, he thought of the worst. either y/n was dead, and he never gets to see her again, or nothing has changed, and there is only more of an agonizing wait.
“eddie, you should get here,” was all he needed to hear over the phone before he roused christopher, dropping him off to get more rest at his tías, and eddie continued to speed over to the hospital.
the tube was gone. it was replaced with a skinnier cord, only pushing air into her through her lungs. her face, still bruised and scraped, but so alive. her eyes shined through the room, meeting eddie’s with a slight upturn of her lip. she was laying on her side with her hand under her cheek. the dark bags under her eyes were clear, but practically matching with eddie’s.
the moment he walked into that room and saw her, his rapid heartbeat began to slow, leaving a dropping sensation in his chest. he scurried over, not being able to stop himself from placing a long kiss on her lips, the ones that had just almost been taken from him.
“i am so, so sorry, mi vida, i wish i were here when you woke up,” he cries, tears welling up in his eyes.
“but you’re here now,” she rasps out, trying to lose the discomfort in her voice. “you’ve been here the whole time for me.”
“don’t ever leave me like that again,” he sighs, pressing his forehead against her own, letting her wired hand be placed on his cheek.
“i wasn’t scared of them,” y/n tells him. “i was scared that they’d take you away from me. i don’t ever want to leave you in the dust like i did last night.”
“last week, honey,” eddie grins with a bit of pity on his voice.
“oh, yeah,” she chuckles a bit, but afterwards grimacing at the pain in her abdomen.
“you should go to sleep, get some real rest this time.”
“i just slept for like, 160 hours, eddie.”
“i know, baby, but you still need to let yourself heal.” she smiles up at him, silently thanking him for his gentleness and tranquility. she nods, as he steps out to see the doctor. maddie returns back in, clutching her purse by her side and smiling her gorgeous maddie beam.
“hi again,” y/n smiles, seeing her best friend walk into the room once more.
maddie carefully walks in, placing her bag down and hugging y/n’s laying figure. “how are you feeling?”
“physically, a bit better,” y/n says.
“but what about the y/n i love. how is she doing in there?”
y/n pauses, all the thoughts rushing back through her head. every sentence screams through her ears, wanting to push itself to the front of her mind. every worry, every fear comes clean to the surface.
“maddie, i don’t know what to do,” her eyes begin to water, and her voice starts to tremble along with her hands. “we’ve been trying to plan this wedding for so long, and those men just took it all away from me. how am i supposed to just move on from that? i’m never going to be able to be the same after that. and eddie,” she sighs, pushing a long exhale out through her mouth. “i feel like i completely destroyed him with this. and now, i have to go to PT and i can’t even walk down the isle by myself! one of these days he’s gonna realize that i’m not worth anything anymore. i’m horrified that every day he has to take care of me, is just one part of him that doesn’t want me anymore.”
her breathing picks up, maddie trying to ease her but ultimately not being able to with just a simple touch. she looks at eddie, still focused on the doctor.
“listen, y/n/n,” maddie begins. “that gang took so much from you, but you have so many people on your side. they lost, you won. and with eddie, he would bleed himself dry if it meant you came home with him. every single breath you take is worth a million dollars to him. you are the most, fighter bitch i’ve ever met, and if anyone’s going to bounce back from this, it’s you. the moment you two kiss on that one night, all this worrying will be for nothing. he is your soldier, and he’ll never leave you. he would fight the gods if it meant he could keep you next to him every night.”
the tears fall onto her pillowcase, leaving several dark patches besides her face. eddie turns back around, letting himself back into to room only to see the upset written all over y/n’s face.
“hey, what’s wrong?” he asks, the sweetness in the delivery of his words. maddie looks up at him, her eyebrows tilting up together in a sadness for her friend. sharp inhales and gasps come through y/n’s body, using her shaking hand to wipe the wet tears from her cheeks. “you’re ok, baby, i got you.” he tells her, sitting besides her on the bed and caressing her side. maddie kisses her cheek, stepping out of the room to leave the engaged pair alone.
“i never want to be away from you again,” she sobs. “promise me you’ll never leave me, and i promise i’ll always love you.”
“i’ll make this promise to you until the day we grow grey hair, or the day you don’t remember me anymore. i’ll promise you this every single day. i mean it when i say i love you more than anything.”
for @doeeyeseddie’s amazing fic “i’ll be the ship, i’ll be the shore” for the @118bigbang
“Daddy!” Ellie calls for him, and Buck spins around, smile stretching over his face.
“Ellie!” he calls back, opening his arms and crouching a little so he can catch her when she takes a leap. He spins her around once before he sets her back down onto her feet. “Hi, sweetheart, how was school?”
“It was good,” she says, slipping her small hand into his. “But I’m excited to go home.”
“Yeah?” he asks. “Because we’re hanging out with the Diazes?”
She grins up at him. “Yes! And because we’re making lasagna.”
Buck laughs, and, over his shoulder, calls to Eddie and Christopher, “You guys hear that? You’re gonna have to compete with the lasagna for Ellie’s attention.”
“Ohh, lasagna,” Christopher says dreamily, and Buck and Eddie grin at each other.
in a world where buck has a daughter christopher’s age, he first meets eddie at their kids’ school. things progress from there.
Saw you are taking 9-1-1 requests. Would you maybe write one with Eddie x reader where she is preparing some food for Christmas (maybe desserts to take to Bobby and Athena's) and she manages to cut herself. Eddie helping clean it and assess the damage before deciding she needs stitches. Buck comes over to hang out with Christopher. Maybe some fluffy cute stuff while they sit in the waiting room and then with the reader trying to walk Eddie through finishing the dessert when they get home because she can't really use her hand.
hello, love! this was so cute! sorry it's past Christmas but hope you're still in the Christmas spirit and like this little story 😊 Happy Holidays everyone! Warnings: reader gets cut and is scared of needles; I think that's it, this is also my first time writing for 9-1-1 and Eddie Diaz so, I hope you loves like it! I have a few more in my inbox Disclaimer: I don’t own 9-1-1 😊 gif isn’t mine 😁
Christmas Cookies
“Would you please just let me help you?” Eddie asked for about the twentieth time.
“No, I’ve got it” you insisted. “Besides, you can go take care of our guest-”
“Buck is not our guest. He’s practically our other kid” Eddie laughed.
“I heard that!” you heard from the living room where Buck was playing video games with Christopher.
“I meant you to!” Eddie said, before looking back at you and smiling at you covered in powdered sugar. “What is that?” he asked as you put a tray of cookies in front of him.
“Chocolate Peppermint cookies” you shrugged. “They are Athena’s favorites” you explained. “For tonight's Christmas party?” you said, when you got no response.
“I thought you were making brownies” Eddie said confused.
“I am” you told him. “Chimney loves brownies” you continued.
“What else are you making?” he asked, leaning on the counter and looking at the endless amount of ingredients.
“Well, gingerbread cookies for Bobby, lemon bars for Maggie, Linzer cookies that Hen and Karen love” you smiled, pointing at the tupperware containing them. “And chocolate chip cookies with M&M’s” you said, grabbing one.
“Oh, yeah, those are Chris’ favorites” Eddie said, grabbing a few M&M’s.
“Yep… all the kids love them” you smiled.
“And…?”
“Buck and Al” you added.
“There it is” Eddie chuckled. “Sweetheart, you did not have to do this many desserts” he insisted. “Athena literally asked you to bring one dessert” he said.
“Don’t worry, I have your buñuelos too” you rolled your eyes.
“No, love, that’s not the point” he chuckled.
“Well, what was I supposed to do?”
“That? Just make one dessert” Eddie said as you started chopping some walnuts for the brownies.
“Yes, but if I make one dessert, I still have to make enough for everyone, so I thought it would be best to have a little bit of everything knowing that there’s something that everyone enjoys” you explained.
“Look, I know you’re the one who owns a small bakery-”
“Small?”
“Those are your words” he defended himself. “But I still think you are spoiling everyone by bringing a hundred desserts” he continued.
“It’s not a hundred” you said, looking back at him.
“Sweetheart, you’re overworking yourself-”
“I’m not-!”
“Yes, you are, I mean, you are making about ten different kinds of desserts, and none of them are even your favorite” he said, walking closer to you.
“I like all of these desserts!” you insisted.
“You are allergic to nuts, and you don’t like gingerbread cookies. Or Linzer cookies” he reminded you.
“Ugh, look if you’re just going to be all rational about this, and keep bugging me, why don’t you just go play video games with Buck and Chris in the other room?”
“Oh, I’m bugging you? You’re kicking me out of my kitchen?”
“Yes, Eddie, I am kicking you out of your kitchen because you’re distracting me, and you’re gonna make us late-” you stopped when you felt a sharp pain on your hand. Eddie’s smug smirk disappeared when he saw the expression on your face and you both looked at your hand. Your hand, which was now entirely red thanks to the spot you had just cut. “Shit” you muttered under your breath.
“Baby, are you okay?” Eddie asked, running over to you.
“Why is it bleeding so much?” you asked, getting a bit more anxious. You had cut yourself before at work, but it was never this big of a deal, usually a bandaid would cover it.
“Stay calm, okay?” he said, gently grabbing your hand. “Let me look at it” he said, walking you over to the sink.
“What happened?” Buck asked coming into the kitchen with Christopher on his back. “Whoa!”
“You’re bleeding a lot” Chris pointed out.
“Oh, honey, I’m sure it looks worse than it is- OUCH!” you complained as Eddie cleaned your wound.
“Sorry” he said, with a small smile. “It does seem it’s as bad as it looks though” he said. “It’s pretty deep, love. I think you need stitches” he instructed.
“W-what?” you asked, feeling your heart stop a little.
“You sure? Let me see” Buck said, putting Chris down and walking over to the two of you. “Oh yeah, you definitely need stitches” he agreed.
“N-no, I don’t” you chuckled nervously. “I’m sure I can just clean it up and put on a bandaid” you said, trying to take your hand away from Eddie.
“Sweetheart, you need stitches” he repeated.
“W-why?”
“It’s too deep” he insisted.
“B-but I don’t want stitches” you said.
“She’s afraid of needles” Christopher said from his spot.
“What? No, she’s not” Eddie chuckled, looking at his son and then back at you. “Are you?”
“Don’t look at me as if I’m crazy for not liking someone stabbing me with a needle” you glared at him.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“You never asked” you shrugged.
“How come Christopher knows?”
“He asked me!”
“Okay, let’s just go” he said, putting something to apply pressure on your hand.
“B-but my desserts-”
“Sweetheart, you need stitches, you can’t even move your hand at this point and you’re bleeding a lot” he said worriedly. “Let’s go!”
“Yeah, don’t worry, we’ll finish up in here” Buck said.
“Don’t touch my desserts!”
“Don’t go near my kitchen!” Eddie yelled out at the same time as you.
“Okay, fine. Geez, you try to be helpful for once” he rolled his eyes as Christopher laughed at him.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
“Hey” Eddie said, holding your good hand and making your leg stop shaking once you were in the waiting room. “It’s gonna be okay, sweetheart. I promise you won’t even feel it” he smiled encouragingly.
“Easy for you to say. You practically see and do these kinds of things every day at work. Plus, you have tattoos. You are clearly okay with someone stabbing your skin with a needle-”
“Nobody’s stabbing your skin with a needle, okay? You will just feel a small pinch, I promise” he said, kissing your hand. “How come you hadn’t told me about this?”
“About what?” you frowned.
“You not liking needles. I mean, Christopher knew” he pouted.
“I don’t know, it’s not something that comes up a lot” you shrugged. “It’s not like spiders where you can just find one randomly crawling around somewhere. It’s easy to avoid needles. I told Christopher when he was having nightmares and I said everyone’s afraid of something, so he asked what I was afraid of” you explained. “Plus, it’s… kinda dumb” you said, looking down.
“What? It’s not dumb” he insisted.
“Yes, it is. You and everyone at the 118 face so many things every single day which are a lot scarier than a dumb needle-”
“Bobby’s scared of needles too” he interrupted.
“What?”
“Yeah” he smiled.
“Bobby? Your captain, Bobby? Captain Robert Nash?”
“Yes” he chuckled. “He suffers every time he donates blood” he explained. “Apparently, he has a rare type of blood that can cure pregnant women and their babies of rhesus disease” he continued.
“Honey, I know you’re trying to make me feel better, but you’re honestly making it worse” you pouted.
“What? How?”
“Because of course, Bobby can power through it and still donate blood! How does this apply to me?”
“You can too!”
“Edmundo, I am certain that you are not comparing me to your captain. He’s like the bravest person that I know!”
“Hey!”
“Aside from you!” you insisted.
“Look” he said, squeezing your good hand. “I know that you’re brave. Not Bobby brave, according to you, but you are” he insisted. “Plus, I’m going to be here and I promise to hold your hand the entire time, okay? You can squeeze it as hard as you need to” he said before kissing your temple.
“Thanks” you smiled, resting your head on his shoulder.
“And besides, you’re right. Everyone’s afraid of something. You have nothing to be embarrassed about, okay?” he said, giving you a peck on the lips.
“Okay” you smiled, still a little nervous. “So… what are you afraid of?”
“You know that” he chuckled.
“No, no. I don’t mean a meaningful fear, like something happening to Christopher, that’s rational-”
“Something happening to you is on the list as well-”
“I mean a dumb fear, like needles” you ignored him.
He sighed, looking away and then finally caved. “If you tell Buck-”
“My lips are sealed, love. I promise” you smiled.
“Snakes” he muttered.
“What?” you frowned.
“Snakes” he repeated a little louder.
“Hold on, is that why you squished my hand when Buck told us about that girl who was being strangled by her own snake? That he later hooked up with?”
“Well, yes!” he said as if it was obvious.
“Well, that’s a little bit more rational” you insisted. “I mean, snakes can be venomous and- ouch!”
“What is it your hand?”
“Yes!” you said, ungluing your good hand from his. “You’re squishing it!”
“Sorry, love” he apologized.
“It’s okay” you said, pulling him closer and kissing him again. “Thanks for letting me know” you smiled. “And thank you for being here for me” you said, kissing his cheek.
“Always, sweetheart” he smiled. "I love you" he kissed you.
"I love you too" you said, resting your head on his shoulder again.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
“OH MY GOD! You are doing it all wrong!” you yelled as Eddie glared at you.
“I cannot believe this is the thank you I get for trying to help you!”
“This is not thank you. This is the opposite of thank you! You burnt my cookies!”
“That was Buck!”
“Hey!” Buck said, pointing the fire extinguisher at the oven. “You didn’t tell me they were ready and I was busy over here doing the stupid lemon bars that nobody even likes!”
“Maddie likes them!” you argued.
“Well, if you don’t like it, you come here and do it!”
“She can’t move her hand!” Eddie, snapped at Buck, as Christopher laughed at the whole scene while he ate chocolate chip cookies.
“Yes, I can!” you insisted. “And obviously, I have to if I want to bring something tonight” you said, trying to grab one of the trays, but Eddie stopped you and carefully grabbed your bandaged hand.
“Out of my kitchen, love!” he said as you glared at him. "You are on mandatory rest until I say so" he reminded you.
"I hate you" you said, rolling your eyes and going to sit next to Christopher on the counter.
"I love you too" he smiled, kissing your forehead.
“How are you two firefighters, and you have burnt down half of my desserts!?”
Kick | Our Hearts Beating As One.
♡ Pairing: Eddie/Preg!Reader ♡ Genre: Fluff, Pregnancy, Family vibes ♡ Word Count: 591 ♡ Warnings: Pregnancy ♡ Summary: You feel your baby girl kick for the first time. ♡ Note: I’ve decided to start a lil mini Drabble series for this! Lots of preggo thoughts have been on the mind and I think this could be cute. Plz feel free to request scenarios for them!
.(♡).
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon in the happy Diaz home. It was Spring, but the weather was still warming up and thus quite cold outside, so the three of you had decided to hang out at home for the day. That meant movies, snacks, and snuggling together on the couch with Christopher nuzzled in between you and Eddie.
My Neighbor Totoro was currently playing, which Christopher had been begging you and Eddie to watch for a few weeks now. It had been hard to get to it. Life has been hectic, especially with you being sixteen weeks pregnant and working. Not to mention Eddie and Christopher’s busy schedules.
Therefore, the three of you cherished this precious time together.
You were so relaxed and cozy, curled up with your two favorite people that you were starting to doze off. It didn’t help that Christopher was snuggled against your shoulder, while Eddie’s hand was draped around the couch gently stroking your hair.
Sleep seemed inevitable and you welcomed it, that was until you felt a sudden sharp kick.
Sitting up in surprise, your hands flew to your stomach as you gasped. You hadn’t felt the baby kick yet at all. Your doctor had said it should be coming any day now, but to actually experience it.. You almost couldn’t believe it happened.
“Sweetheart, what’s wrong? Are you in pain?” Eddie asked, hurriedly pushing himself up from the couch and crouching down next to you in concern.
Christopher stayed quiet, eyes flickering between you and his father with worry.
“Oh yes - I’m fine. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare either of you,” you said quickly, “it’s just I think the baby kicked for the first time.”
“Ah, Dr. Celiner said she would be soon, that’s amazing,” Eddie said, visibly relaxing.
“Really? My baby sister is kicking now?” Christopher whispered as he leaned forward, his hazel eyes glowing with excitement.
You smiled softly at his reaction as you reached out to gently brush his hair back. It was always so endearing to see how excited Christopher was about the baby. He had already told everyone how proud he was to soon be a big brother.
Glancing at your boyfriend, you noticed how happy he looked at Christopher’s reaction. Eddie had initially been very worried about how his son would feel about the pregnancy. That worry had been for naught. Christopher was over the moon at the thought of his baby sister and the four of you soon being a family.
“Yes Chris and oh - she just kicked again. Would the two of you like to feel?
Christopher gulped, his eyes widening as he nodded before slowly placing a hand on your stomach.
Eddie smiled and joined his son, placing his hand right beside Christopher’s.
The three of you waited with baited breath until the next kick came. It was a soft flutter this time, but enough to be felt.
Christopher laughed with joy, “I can feel it! There she is!”
“How perfect she is,” Eddie cooed.
“Mhm,” you murmured with pride, so happy to be sharing this moment with the two of them. “I love you both so much.”
Christopher grinned sweetly, looking bashful as he threw his arms around you and whispered the same back to you.
Eddie joined in, squeezing you both before placing a gentle kiss on both of your foreheads.
In this moment, the three of you could feel nothing but the strength of your bond and love for each other. And soon your sweet bundle of joy would be here to complete your budding family.
strange look on his face | a buddie fic
read here on ao3
Summary: Eddie deals with the aftermath of Christopher's departure and a realization he wasn't expecting.
Warnings/Tags: No Archive Warnings Apply, Evan "Buck" Buckley/Eddie Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Feelings Realization, Pining Eddie Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Pre-Relationship Evan "Buck" Buckley/Eddie Diaz, POV Eddie Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Christopher Diaz Has Two Dads, Eddie Diaz Loves Evan "Buck" Buckley, Evan "Buck" Buckley is Christopher Diaz's Parent, Evan "Buck" Buckley/Eddie Diaz First Kiss, First Kiss, Soft Eddie Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Gay Eddie Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Bisexual Evan "Buck" Buckley, Christopher Diaz is a National Treasure, Christopher Diaz is a Sweetheart, Evan "Buck" Buckley Acting as Christopher Diaz's Parental Figure
Christopher has been gone for three and a half weeks when Eddie finally realizes. He’s been through six sessions of therapy with Frank, but it’s not Frank that makes it finally click in his head. It’s the most insanely mundane thing Eddie’s ever seen Buck do, and it hits him like a fucking freight train.
Buck is just sitting on the end of the couch, folding a load of his and Eddie’s laundry, grinning down at his phone. He’s texting Chris, Eddie knows—he’d asked with a strange pit in his stomach when he first noticed, thinking he was talking to Tommy and dreading the answer. Until Buck had looked at him, fondness so clear in his eyes that if Eddie wasn’t already sitting down, his knees would have buckled, and admits that he’s talking to Christopher. Eddie doesn’t even have to ask for Buck to explain that Chris was talking about going horse riding with his cousins, and how he was complaining that his grandparents didn’t want him to go. Buck gently admits that he’d told Christopher to be nice but to explain to them that he knows his own limitations and he needs them to trust that he’s being honest with them, and Chris had texted back to thank Buck for the advice and send a picture of the horse he was going to be riding.
It’s so stupid. Buck has been basically co-parenting Chrisopher with him for years, and this is what does it? Sure, Buck generally defers to Eddie’s judgment regarding Christopher, and Eddie’s always the one to dole out punishments in the rare circumstance that Chris needs one, but for all intents and purposes, Buck is Christopher’s other dad. Maybe it’s the combination of things he’s been talking with Frank about, or maybe it’s just watching Buck help to shape the confidence of his son, but it finally clicks into place in his brain and he draws in a sharp breath. It feels like a monumental shift and no shift at all, how much he loves Buck. How much he’s in love with Buck. Eddie’s sure Buck could see his frantic heartbeat in his neck if he looked over, but he’s focused on his conversation with their son, and all Eddie wants to do is cry. He’s not even sure why. He’s just so fucking overwhelmed that he rattles off a quiet explanation of going to the bathroom and all but flees from the room.
They have a shift in two hours, so he gives himself five minutes to freak the hell out before splashing some cold water on his face and taking a few deep breaths to collect himself. He can keep it together. He can. He’s apparently been in love with his best friend this entire time, just because he realizes it now doesn’t mean anything has to change. He’ll just… unpack this with Frank in therapy and then push it back into the box before he has to hang out with Buck again. Easy.
He lasts about ten minutes, which he thinks is actually fairly good. Buck has his head thrown back, laughing at something in the show he’s watching, and Eddie can’t help but stare. He’s seen Buck before, but it’s like he’s suddenly seeing him in a new light. Like he’s finally giving himself permission to look, which he absolutely should not be doing, but he can’t tear his eyes away. He’d always known objectively that Buck was beautiful, hell, he got hit on all the time on calls and when they went out, it’s not exactly a surprise to Eddie, but the sudden tightness in his jeans is a much bigger surprise than he’s ready for. He can’t pull his eyes away from Buck’s lips, the lines of his throat, and can’t help but wonder what that would feel like around his cock.
Holy shit, he needs the coldest shower on the planet right now. Instead, he shuffles just a little to relieve some of the pressure on his aching dick and focuses his attention on whatever show Buck is currently invested in, letting himself get distracted enough that he’s mostly okay once they head out for work.
He makes it through a couple hours of their shift without incident, until Tommy shows up to have dinner with them. Buck looks surprised and a little annoyed—what the fuck is that about—so Eddie assumes he hadn’t been invited, but it still makes him nauseous. He takes his normal seat on Buck’s left and sees Tommy giving him a weird look before taking the seat on Buck’s right.
Much to Eddie’s delight, Buck spends most of dinner chatting with the table at large, or tilting his phone so Eddie can see the pictures Chris is sending of himself and his cousins around a backyard campfire, sticky with marshmallow and grinning at the camera. It makes Eddie’s chest ache, in a good and bad way. He’s happy that Chris is having fun—he’d been able to admit that much to Frank too, which Frank had seemed impressed by—but Eddie can’t help but feel like he’s back in the army, missing his kid growing up. He knows it’s only for the summer, and that Christopher rightfully needed some space, but it doesn’t make it sting any less. Honestly, he thinks it stings more because he’d assumed that if Chris ran to anyone, it would be Buck. That Buck would have been the one looking after Christopher for the summer, that Eddie would still at least be in the same city as his kid. Not that it would have worked out anyway, since Buck offered the loft to Bobby and Athena after the fire, but it doesn’t make Eddie any less annoyed by the situation. His relationship with his parents has been getting better, marginally, but it’s like all of his worst fears coming true. They have Christopher now, and Eddie just has to trust that he’s going to come home at the end of the summer. It’s nerve wracking.
Buck walks Tommy out after dinner, and Eddie catches Tommy leaning in to kiss Buck, and in the back of his brain, he just wants. He wants Buck’s lips on his, wants to grab every part of skin he can reach, wants to lose himself in his best friend. And then his brain—his raised very Catholic brain—screeches to a halt as he realizes the implications.
He’s never been particularly religious, but he was raised in a Catholic household, so he’s still got some of the lingering ideas fighting for space in his brain, clearly. The particular one that’s bugging him right now is the one that reminds him that it’s a sin to be gay, to lust after another man. And while Eddie’s mostly able to reject it, since he sort of thinks it’s all bullshit anyway, there’s a piece of him that closes in on itself, and it makes his skin crawl. Normally, he’d talk to Buck about it, but that’s out of the question since he’d have to admit to the revelation he’s recently had, so Eddie turns to where Bobby is washing the dishes from dinner. It takes him all of three seconds to decide, and then he’s crossing the length of the loft to grab a towel and start drying.
Bobby glances at him but doesn’t say anything, which Eddie is incredibly grateful for. It takes him a couple of minutes of drying and putting the dishes away to collect himself and figure out exactly what the fuck he wants to ask, and how to ask it.
“Hey, Cap, you’re Catholic, right?”
Bobby turns to raise an eyebrow at him. “Yes. Is that what you came over to ask me?”
Eddie snorts. “Uh, not exactly. I—well, it’s sort of… complicated? I think I realized something about myself and, you know, I don’t know if I believe in that or not, but I grew up Catholic, so it’s still kind of, uh, infecting me I guess?” Eddie pauses, eyes widening in panic as he realizes what he’s just said. “Not that being Catholic is a bad thing! I just meant, you know, I don’t know if I agree with everything they teach, not that they’re bad people or something—” He stops when Bobby, chuckling to himself, puts a wet hand on his forearm and squeezes gently.
“Eddie, you don’t need to apologize to me. Faith isn’t for everyone, I know that. It’s helped me through some tough times, and it’s something that I think I’ll always hold space for because of that, but I don’t care what other people think of it. Besides, I don’t agree with everything the church teaches, either.” Bobby meets his eyes meaningfully, raising an eyebrow. “Particularly that they’re so unwelcoming to the queer community.”
Eddie swallows. “Right. So, um, I guess I was just sort of wondering about… confession? I haven’t been since I was a teenager, but I thought that it might… I don’t know, make me feel better about everything, I guess? But I don’t have a church I go to, so I figured maybe I should ask you. ”
Bobby raises an eyebrow at him. “Confession? Do you think you’ve done something that requires confession?”
Eddie bites his lip, resisting the sudden and overwhelming urge to look around and find Buck’s gaze. “I… I don’t know. Maybe? I just—I didn’t think it would matter to me but it sort of just hit me? My parents are God-fearing Texans, y’know, so…I guess it became part of my foundation when I was growing up?”
Bobby nods his understanding, taking the towel from Eddie to dry his own hands. “Sure, I can send you the address. But just so we’re on the same page? Not everything the Catholic church teaches is right, and you shouldn’t believe a lot of it. Especially when it makes you feel bad about parts of who you are. Okay?”
Eddie wants to throw up and also hug Bobby, and he isn’t quite sure which is going to win out, so he dries his own hands off and nods, shooting Bobby a small smile before whispering his thanks and heading off to finish up his chores.
They have almost nonstop calls until the end of their shift, so Eddie doesn’t even really get enough time to decide if he wants to try going to Bobby’s church or not. By the time he finally walks out of the station, a full two hours after his shift was supposed to end, he’s still not sure it’ll help, but it can’t hurt, surely, so he plugs the address into his GPS and heads directly there. He’s far too pent up from… well, everything, he wouldn’t be able to sleep even if he wanted to. Besides, there might not be anyone there to begin with. It’s after 10pm when he gets there, so he’s not expecting a whole hell of a lot when he steps through the surprisingly still unlocked front doors.
The church beyond the doors is silent and empty, at least from what Eddie can see. It’s just like the church he remembers at home—huge and overwhelming and uninviting—and it makes his chest go tight. He thinks about just turning around and going home, but he knows he’s going to lay in bed for hours trying to sleep, thinking about how he should have just checked to see if anyone was here. He sucks in a breath, sending a quick text to Buck to let him know he’ll be home late, and wanders inside.
It’s bigger than he was expecting, although that’s how almost everything in LA is, so he shouldn’t be surprised at this point. He still doesn’t see anyone, not that he’d really know where to look, but he’s already come this far. He settles into one of the pews near the altar, hands clasping together between his knees automatically. He thinks about praying, but he’s really not sure what that would even do for him, or what he would say, and the thought of doing it makes his skin crawl just a little bit. He ends up just sitting quietly, trying to sort through the thoughts whizzing through his head and organize them into some semblance of a plan, some direction to go from here.
“Can I help you?”
Eddie startles at the voice, turning to find a priest watching him. “Oh, uh. Maybe. I don’t—this isn’t really my thing.”
The priest smiles gently, nodding to the spot next to Eddie. Eddie nods back, scooting over just a bit to make more room for him to sit. “So what brings you here so late, if it’s not really your thing?”
Eddie clears this throat, squeezing his hands tightly. “I, um. I think I might be in love with my best friend.” He doesn’t want to look, but the priest doesn’t say anything after a while, so Eddie glances over at him. He’s just waiting with an eyebrow raised. “He, uh… he’s a man,” Eddie adds, preparing for the worst.
Except, it doesn’t come. The expression on the priest’s face doesn’t change, which is… confusing. Although, Bobby had sent him here after his rather pointed comment about the queer community, so maybe…
“I know most churches within Catholicism will tell you that’s a problem, but we don’t believe that here. For what it’s worth, as someone who has studied the Bible, I think they’re wrong anyway. The most common quote people use is wildly misused.”
Eddie blinks. “The don’t lay with another man one?”
The priest nods. “It comes from Leviticus, which explains the rules God laid down for Moses’ people. It’s been passed down for centuries, like a game of telephone, and most people disregard a lot of the things in that book anyway. It instructs us to kill adulterers, tell us where to buy slaves from, not to eat anything from the water if it doesn’t have fins and scales. A lot of it is commonly disregarded, and yet it’s used to isolate a community that just wants to practice their faith like the rest of us.”
Eddie swallows, his throat suddenly too tight. “So… it’s not… I’m not… I don’t even think I believe in Hell, actually. I don’t even really know what I’m doing here.”
The priest smiles. “Did you grow up Catholic?”
Eddie nods. “Sunday school and everything, yeah. Stopped going once I got my girlfriend pregnant, mostly because my parents were embarrassed and didn’t want me around for people to gossip about, but I honestly didn’t really care that we stopped going. I used to just zone out for mass anyway, I just never really cared about it. Never… connected with it, or whatever.” He feels like an idiot saying all of that to a priest, but he’s already here. Might as well do something to try to sort through his feelings, and there’s no way Frank was going to take his call at ten at night.
“That’s understandable. A lot of people who grow up in a faith-based family struggle, especially in their adult life. Faith is an intensely personal thing, and no two people worship the same. Some people don’t even worship at all, and that’s okay too. Not everyone needs to. Your faith is between you and whatever higher power you believe in, if any.”
“But that’s… is that how it works? I remember learning all the rules when I was younger, about how to act and what was… you know, okay?”
The priest hums. “Sure. Different churches have different beliefs. Honestly, beliefs even differ between priests. But I’m not going to tell you that being attracted to your male best friend is wrong, or that it’s going to damn you. Jesus taught that the most important thing was to love thy neighbor no matter what, that’s what I try to live by.”
Eddie sits back in the pew, taking a deep breath. This… isn’t what he expected. Honestly, he’d sort of expected to be told that he was an abomination and that he should leave before he burst into flames. This is the exact opposite of what he was expecting, and it’s kind of freeing. He’s not even really sure if he believes in a god, and even if he did, he doesn’t think a god would care who he decides to sleep with, but to have that reinforced by someone from the religion he was raised in? That taught him that being gay was a sin, and that there was nothing worse than being a sinner? It’s a relief.
“Tell me about him, if you think it will help.”
Eddie smiles. “He’s… he’s the best person I know. He’s been through so much and he’s still unflinchingly kind, I don’t know how he does it. He’s incredible with my son. Honestly, I think my son might like him more than he likes me. And he just fits, you know? I didn’t even realize I was in love with him until yesterday, but he’s basically been my partner for years. He helps me with my son, we spend basically all of our time together, and the house always feels so empty when he leaves. God, I just want him to stay,” Eddie finishes in a whisper, scrubbing a hand over his face. “I want him to be where he belongs, with us.”
“Have you told him that?”
Eddie shakes his head. “He’s dating someone else. I don’t… I can’t get in the way of that. I don’t think I’d ever forgive myself if I ruined a relationship he was happy in.”
The priest chuckles. “If he’s happy, you telling him won’t make any difference. Either he’ll realize that he’d rather be with you, or he’ll stay in a relationship he’s happy in.” He leans toward Eddie, a conspiratorial smile on his lips. “But just between you and me, platonic best friends don’t typically co-parent children together.”
Eddie blinks. “I… hadn’t thought about that. I just assumed he was doing it to be a nice guy, but… I don’t know, I think I might be biased? I mean, I want him there when I get home, I want him to do school pickup with me and go to parent-teacher conferences. I want to take us on family vacations and have Chris wake us up way too early on Christmas. I don’t think I can see past it now that I know, you know?”
“You might be biased, but maybe he is too. It takes two, and from what it sounds like, he’s spending just as much time with you and voluntarily helping you with your son.”
Eddie nods, running a hand through his hair. “And God’s not gonna, I don’t know, strike me down with lightning if I kiss him?”
The priest snorts. “No. I imagine God has better things to be doing.”
They sit in silence for another few minutes, until Eddie feels like he’s calmed down enough to face Buck. He murmurs a thank you toward the priest, who nods and tells him to get home safe, disappearing through a door behind the altar. Eddie clears his throat, fishing his keys out of his pocket and heading back to his truck.
Buck’s Jeep isn’t in the driveway when he gets home, which is… weird. Buck’s become much more of a homebody while Chris has been gone, although Eddie suspects that’s because he’s mostly been moping around the house and Buck has been looking after him. Still, he had expected Buck to be here when he got home, and the lack of a message or call letting Eddie know he was going elsewhere is worrisome. He opens their message thread, debating whether he should send a message, before deciding against it and switching to Find My Friends.
Eddie swallows, biting his bottom lip. He knows exactly where Buck is, because he’s been there too—Tommy’s apartment. The sight makes Eddie physically ill, so he closes out of the app and takes a deep breath that does nothing to stop the roiling in his gut. Alright, so maybe not confessing his feelings, then. He still feels like he’s bursting to talk about them, though, so he does the only logical thing he can think of—logs into the account he uses to schedule his therapy appointments and takes an open spot for tomorrow morning. They're off anyway, and he needs to get this off his chest sooner rather than later, before he does something stupid like word vomiting his feelings all over Buck.
He must’ve fallen asleep on the couch at some point after checking on Christopher through his mother, because the next thing he knows, he’s hearing keys in the front door over the sound of whatever is playing quietly on the TV. He rubs the sleep from his eyes, shutting the TV off and trying to decide if he should scurry off to his bedroom before he has to face Buck, but he doesn’t get a chance to make a decision either way before Buck’s walking inside. He’s struggling, and Eddie’s off the couch before he can even consciously think about it, taking a cardboard box from Buck’s hands with a confused look.
“My stuff from Tommy’s,” Buck says, like that explains literally anything.
“Why are you bringing your stuff back from Tommy’s?”
Buck raises an eyebrow at him. “Uh, I broke up with him? Kind of thought that would’ve been obvious since I’m lugging all my shit home. Honestly, I don’t even know how this much of my stuff ended up at Tommy’s place to begin with. I don’t think I’ve been there more than a handful of times.”
Eddie’s sure the rest of whatever Buck’s saying is important, but the only thing his brain can process at the moment is that Buck broke up with Tommy.
“You okay, Eds?”
Eddie blinks at him, plastering on a smile he hopes doesn’t look as fake as it feels, and nods. “Yeah, yeah, all good. I’m sorry about you and Tommy.”
Buck waves a hand toward the corner of the living room, so Eddie drops the box there. “It’s fine. It wasn’t gonna last anyway. He was really fucking annoying with the whole Gerard thing, and I think he mostly just tunes me out all the time anyway. I hadn’t even talked to him in, like, a week. I don’t know why he just showed up for dinner.”
Eddie blinks. “What do you mean ‘the whole Gerard thing’?”
Buck frowns at him, sitting heavily on the couch. “What do you mean, what do I mean? You were there. He was being really homophobic toward Hen, and snidely racist toward her and Chim.”
Eddie rolls his eyes. “No, yeah, I know that. I meant what do you mean Tommy was annoying about it?”
“Oh. He basically told me that he dealt with Gerard for years and that I should just keep my mouth shut and do my job. I tried to get him to understand that it’s my family he’s attacking, but… I dunno. He didn’t seem to get it, and whenever I’d try to vent about it to him, he’d just pull the whole ‘should’ve just kept your mouth shut’ thing.”
Eddie frowns. “That’s… why did you let him treat you like that?”
Buck snorts. “Did you miss the part where I said I broke up with him?”
“No, I heard it, but Gerard’s been gone for two weeks. Why didn’t you break up with him before?”
“Oh, uh…” Buck rubs a hand over the back of his neck, and Eddie can see his cheeks reddening. “I actually, uh, hadn’t really seen him before now?”
Eddie blinks. Blinks again. Licks over his bottom lip and crosses his arms over his chest as he thinks back. Because he knows Buck is right. Hell, they’ve been living together for the better part of a month now, and Eddie knows that Buck has been here basically the whole time, blowing off his boyfriend to comfort Eddie. He feels less bad about it knowing that Buck was kind of avoiding Tommy anyway, but he still feels bad. He hadn’t intended to monopolize so much of Buck’s time. “Shit, because you were here. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—”
“Eddie, you didn’t do anything, okay? I was kind of done with Tommy by that point anyway, and I’d rather be with—” Buck cuts himself off, sending a panicked glance in Eddie’s direction. “Be here. Cause I know you’re having a tough time with Chris gone and honestly I miss him too, so it’s kinda nice being here. We can mope together.”
Eddie snorts. “God, aren’t we a pair of sorry bastards.”
Buck hums. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Eddie’s pretty sure his heart has beat its way out of his body entirely. This is far too intimate for how raw he’s feeling right now, so he gives himself a minute of buffer so Buck doesn’t think he’s fleeing, and then flees to his bedroom with a mumbled goodnight. He changes into his pajamas and slips out to the bathroom to finish getting ready for bed, praying silently that Buck stays on the couch and Eddie doesn’t have another reason to swallow down his suddenly so clear feelings.
He’s exhausted when he finally gets into bed, but then his brain decides to be a traitorous asshole and give him the idea that his bed would be far more comfortable with Buck next to him in it. Eddie has the overwhelming urge to punch something, so he aggressively fluffs his own pillow, rolling over and pulling the blanket over his head.
He needs to talk to Frank, he knows that much. And Buck, probably. Although, strangely enough, Eddie doesn’t really doubt that his feelings will be returned. He has a sneaking suspicion that Buck might have just been waiting for him to catch up, which just makes him sad. What if he hadn’t ever caught up? What if he’d just married some nice girl and struggled through it, instead of the clusterfuck that led him to where he is now? He thinks he knows the answer (that Buck would have resigned himself to just being Eddie’s best friend and taken whatever scraps he could get) but it honestly just makes him feel worse about everything.
He needs to talk to Christopher.
The thought hits him like a brick to the face, because of course he needs to talk to Christopher. He hasn’t even spoken to his son since he left, only getting updates on his time in El Paso from his own mother and Buck, since Chris and Buck are still texting almost constantly. Still, if he’s… depending on what happens with Frank tomorrow, he’s going to have to suck it up and call Chris and hope to a god he probably doesn’t believe in that his son answers.
X
“I’m in love with Buck,” Eddie blurts out, less than thirty seconds into his therapy appointment. Frank has the audacity to not even look surprised, which makes Eddie scowl. He really had been the last one to catch up.
“What made you realize?”
Eddie scrubs a hand over his face, sighing. “It’s stupid.”
He hears Frank sigh and winces, already knowing the therapy speech that’s about to be leveled at him. “Eddie, there’s nothing stupid about your feelings. Where they come from may not always be logical, but the feelings themselves are worthy and you’re allowed to have them.”
He takes a sip of water, mostly for something to do, and nods. “Yeah, I know. It’s just, of all the things that could’ve clued me in, it was… basically nothing. He was just folding laundry on the couch and talking to Chris. And, yeah, he was giving Chris advice on how to handle my parents doubting his abilities, but that’s—he does that all the time, you know? Gives Chris advice, helps him work through problems. I honestly don’t know what made it click.” He lets out a long breath, clearing his throat. “I think it was just the domesticity of it all. Like we were just spending a day hanging out before work and our son was out with friends. And I just… I wanted that, you know? I want him there all the time. I want to make dinner with him and Chris and spend our days off taking him to the zoo and the science center, waking up to Buck in my arms every morning. I want to be able to not second-guess myself every time I go to touch him.”
Eddie’s breathing hard when he stops his rant, shifting uncomfortably in his chair. He doesn’t usually talk that much in therapy, and Frank seems a little surprised by his sudden outburst.
“So what’s stopping you from discussing your feelings with him?”
Eddie blows out a breath. “I… I think it’s Chris. I mean, not that I think he would be upset if I dated Buck, but I think… I think that after what happened, with Marisol a-and Kim, I don’t want to just jump into another relationship. I know I really hurt him and I want to get better for him, you know? I don’t want him to come home and I’m already dating someone else, I just… I want him to see that I’m trying to get better, and I don’t think he’ll see that if he comes back and I’m already dating someone else.”
Frank closes his notebook. “I’m impressed with your progress, Eddie. You’ve been doing well.”
Eddie blinks at him. “I… have? I don’t feel like much has changed.”
Frank smiles. “It may not feel like it, but I don’t think you registered what you just said to me.”
“What did I say?” Eddie asks, frowning as he spins his last admission around in his head.
“You told me what you want. You want Christopher to see that you’re working through your issues and improving, and that you want Buck. A month ago, you wouldn’t have said those outright. You would have danced around the admission until I pulled it out of you. I barely said anything before you were admitting your wants. That's an improvement, Eddie. It may not seem like it, but admitting that you want things is a step closer to letting yourself have the things you want.”
Eddie squirms in his seat, clearing his throat. He wants to refute it, but he knows Frank is right. He’s always struggled with wanting things for himself, especially after Christopher was born. His parents had always instilled selflessness in him, and made sure he understood that as a parent, Christopher was his priority, nothing else, even if they often disagreed about what that meant.
“I want to take Buck on dates,” Eddie whispers, eyes pointedly fixed on his hands. “I want to be able to take Buck to dinner and leave Chris with Abuela, or with his friends, and just… be with Buck. Is that awful?”
Frank sets his notebook aside, sitting forward. “No, Eddie. That’s not awful. You’re a parent, so of course Christopher is a priority, but he shouldn’t be your only priority. It’s important that you’re happy, too. We’ve discussed your affair at length, but it boils down to this: your unhappiness directly hurt your son. You were unhappy in a relationship because of your trauma regarding Shannon, which led you to make decisions that ultimately hurt Christopher. You simply returning to your sessions with me was an incredible step toward progress, and you’ve made great progress working with me. Chris will be impressed, even if it takes him some time to sort through his feelings. And, more importantly, you’ll be showing him that it’s important to make sure you are content with your life while taking care of others, that sometimes it’s okay to put yourself first. You’re a first responder, you know better than anyone. Your oxygen mask needs to be on before you help anyone else.”
Eddie nods, picking at a loose thread in his jeans.
“I do think you should call and talk to him. From what you’ve said, his anger stems from being lied to by you. I think, if you want to pursue things with Buck, you need to be upfront with Christopher about it.”
Eddie blinks, looking up at Frank. “You think he’s angry because I lied to him?”
Frank raises an eyebrow. “You think differently?”
Eddie shrugs. “I think I just assumed it was because she looked like his mom. That it brought up, y’know, unpleasant… feelings. For him.”
They talk about Eddie’s feelings with the whole thing—his unresolved feelings regarding Shannon and their relationship, and why he thought something with Kim would help fix that—and by the time he leaves, he’s absolutely drained. He’d like nothing more than to go home and crawl into bed for a nap, but… Buck’s at home. He really needs to have a conversation with Christopher, preferably without Buck in earshot, so he grabs a coffee and muffin from a nearby coffee shop and heads for the park the three of them frequent. He could probably use the fresh air anyway.
His mom picks up on the first ring, which Eddie still finds hard to believe. They’ve never talked as much as they have in the past month and Eddie appreciates it beyond belief. Chris still won’t talk to him, so he gets all his updates through Buck or his mom. He thinks he’d be going a little crazy if he wasn’t getting any at all, so as angry as he is at his parents, he’s grateful too.
He asks if Chris is around and if he’d be willing to Facetime, and much to his surprise, Chris agrees. His mom passes the phone to him and then Eddie’s laying eyes on his son for the first time in almost a month and he’s so fucking happy he could cry.
“Dad? Is everything okay?” Chris asks quietly, frowning.
Eddie chuckles wetly. “Everything’s great, mijo. I promise. I, uh, I actually wanted to talk to you about something, if you don’t mind sharing some of your time with your old man.”
Chris wrinkles his nose. “You’re not that old. What do you want to talk about?”
Eddie clears his throat, taking a sip of his coffee and setting the cup on the bench beside him. “So, we’ve talked about sexual orientation before. How Denny’s moms love each other and that’s wonderful, and how Buck might end up loving another man, or maybe a woman. You remember?”
Chris nods, pushing his glasses up as he settles onto a bed. Eddie recognizes it as his childhood bed, which brings up all sorts of feelings that he really does not want to deal with at the moment. “Yeah, Denny’s moms are lesbian and Buck said he was beesexual?”
Eddie chokes back a snort. “Bisexual, yes. So I’ve been working with Frank, do you remember him? He’s my therapist, I go to him and he helps me… sort through all the stuff in my head?”
Chris nods again. “Like when I went to see the doctor after the tsunami and they helped me talk about Mom?”
“Yeah, exactly. So Frank and I talked about it and I wanted to tell you. I’m gay.”
Chris frowns. “But you loved Mom, didn’t you?”
Eddie smiles. “Yeah, buddy. Your mom was my best friend. But I didn’t love her like Denny’s moms love each other. Does that make sense?”
Christopher’s face screws up as he thinks, then nods. “Like Harry’s dad, right? They were together but then his dad told them he was gay?”
“Exactly. I loved your mom, but more like a best friend than a partner.”
Chris nods. “So if you’re gay and Buck is bisexual, does that mean you love each other now?”
Eddie chokes back a laugh. Leave it to Chris to get straight to the point, especially when Buck is involved. “That’s actually what I wanted to talk to you about, mijo. I know you’re getting older and that we can have more open discussions about these things, and I wanted to include you. I know what happened with Marisol and Kim upset you, and I want to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
Chris looks away. “You lied to me, Dad.”
Eddie’s heart aches. All he wants to do is wrap Christopher in his arms and squeeze, but he can’t. So he settles for Frank’s suggestion and is as honest as possible instead. “You’re right, and that was wrong of me. I shouldn't have treated you like that, I’m sorry.” He lets the apology linger as he eats some of his muffin. “I wanted to know what you thought about me possibly dating Buck. I know after everything that it might bring up some complicated feelings, so if you want me to hold off on dating anyone, I absolutely will.”
Chris chews his lip. “But you’d be dating Buck? Right? Not anyone else?”
Eddie shakes his head. “No one else. I want to date Buck. I haven’t talked to him about it yet, I wanted to talk to you first.”
Chris looks away again, and Eddie hates how worried he looks. “Would he leave?” Chris whispers, glancing back at Eddie.
“Why would he leave?” Chris sniffles. Eddie wants to hug him so desperately that his hand twitches. “Chris, why do you think Buck would leave?”
“Everyone you date leaves,” Chris says quietly, averting his gaze again. Eddie’s pretty sure his heart has snapped in two.
“No, Chris. I don’t think he would leave,” Eddie says gently. “I think Buck really likes being with us, and I think he’d like to be with us even more. If we did date, I mean.”
Chris bites his lip. “Can I talk to Buck about it? After you talk to him? I want him to promise.”
Eddie blinks against the tears stinging his eyes. “Of course, mijo. I’m going to talk to him when I get home, and then we’ll both call you, okay?”
Chris nods. “Dad, do you love him?”
Eddie smiles. “Yeah, Chris. I love him a lot. Almost as much as I love you.”
Chris nods again, seemingly satisfied with that answer. “I just want you to be happy, Dad. Buck makes you happy.”
Eddie feels like his entire chest has been cracked open. “Yeah, Chris, he really does. He makes us both happy, right?”
Chris sits up quickly, eyes widening. “Wait, does this mean Buck is gonna live with us?”
Eddie huffs a laugh. “Yeah, maybe in the future. I think he’ll go back to his loft when Bobby and Athena find a place to live, but we can talk about that. Do you want him to live with us?”
“Well yes, obviously! Then we could hang out all the time! It’d be like movie night every night.” He’s grinning now, which makes Eddie feel infinitely better than before. Plus, he’d like Buck there forever too, so he can’t exactly blame the kid.
“Alright. I’m gonna go home and talk to Buck. We’ll call you later, okay?”
“Okay Dad. Love you.”
Eddie smiles, taking one more look at his kid, just to reassure himself. “Love you, Chris.”
X
It’s quiet when he gets home, which is still jarring. He and Buck don’t make as much noise as a nearly-teenage boy, so the silence makes his chest ache. Still, he’s buoyed after his conversation with Chris, and he’s even whistling to himself quietly as he kicks his shoes off and sets them on the rack near the door, hanging his keys on the key rack.
“Eds? That you?”
Eddie smiles, running a hand through his hair and taking a deep breath, trying to steady himself. He’s felt off-balance since Christopher left but, even with… this whole thing looming right now, he feels more in control than he has in a while. It’s nice. “Yeah, back from therapy. Beer?”
Buck hums in the affirmative, so Eddie heads for the kitchen and grabs two out of the fridge, popping the caps off and grabbing a bag of chips. He can hear some shuffling noises in his bedroom, so he drops the beers and chips on the coffee table and heads for his bedroom. He knocks on the frame, smiling softly when he finds Buck putting laundry away.
“You don’t want to nap?” Buck asks, not even bothering to turn to look at Eddie. He looks so at home here, putting Eddie’s laundry away, and he suddenly has the overwhelming urge to take the four steps into his bedroom and kiss him.
“No,” he says finally, clearing his throat. “Session was actually… really helpful. I Facetimed with Christopher after, that’s why I’m so late getting back. I feel good. Is that silly?”
Buck turns to look at him over his shoulder, a small smile on his face. “No, it’s not silly. Took about a dozen sessions with Dr. Copeland for me, and a screaming match on the phone with my parents, but after that it really started to help, and I stopped dreading going.” He bumps the drawer closed with his hip, turning to face Eddie fully. “You Facetimed with Chris? That’s big. How did it go?”
Eddie lets out a breath, sitting heavily on the bed. “Actually pretty well, I think? He’s scared and upset but I think he’s coming around. That, uh… that actually wasn’t what I talked to him about.”
Buck sits down next to him, leaning back and raising an eyebrow. “What did you talk to him about?”
He suddenly feels like he could throw up, which is annoying. Buck’s bisexual, he’s not going to give a shit that Eddie is gay. Still, it feels like admitting it will open a door toward a relationship for them, and as much as he wants it (because he does want it, almost as much as he wants Chris back home) he’s fucking terrified. He’s pretty sure Buck feels the same way he does, and obviously he needs to confess to find out for sure, but there’s a part of his brain that’s insisting that Buck doesn’t feel that way and that his admission will ruin everything.
Buck wraps a hand around Eddie’s wrist, squeezing gently. “You okay?”
Eddie clears his throat, staring at their hands with a little bit of wonder as he finally chokes out, “I’m gay. I told him I’m gay.”
Buck’s hand tightens around his wrist, and Eddie has the desperate thought that he’d like to know how Buck’s fingers feel between his own. He hears a soft exhale beside him, but he can’t bring himself to look at Buck. He can’t see whatever’s playing out across his best friend’s face right now, or he’ll never get the rest of his confession out.
“I also asked if he would be okay if I were to… date someone. I wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to be uncomfortable with it.”
He can hear Buck swallow beside him, and he wants. He wants to just turn and kiss him until neither of them can breathe.
“O-oh. Eddie, I’m so honored that you told me,” Buck says quietly, but Eddie can tell he’s holding back. Waiting for the rest of whatever Eddie has to tell him. “Who, uh. Who did you ask him about dating?”
Eddie swallows past the knot in his throat, sucking in a sharp breath as he forces himself to turn his head and look at Buck. He’s fucking terrified, but he needs to see Buck’s reaction, good or bad. Buck’s already looking at him, a mixture of fear and hope swirling in his eyes. It’s enough to push the words out of Eddie’s mouth. “You. I asked him about dating you,” he manages, eyes locked on Buck’s face for any sort of reaction.sa
He feels like he waits for hours, but then Buck’s mouth is tipping up into a sunny grin and Eddie feels like he could float.
“God, you have no idea how badly I was hoping you’d say that,” Buck murmurs, slipping his hand down to intertwine their fingers. “Before I—what did Chris say?”
Eddie laughs. “He asked if you were gonna live with us forever, cause that meant basically every night was movie night. And that he was okay with it, but only if it was you. And he wanted to talk to you about it, so we’ll have to call him later.”
Buck grins. “God, I love that kid.” He squeezes Eddie’s hand as Eddie laughs in disbelief.
“Have we really been this stupid? We could’ve just… been together this whole time?”
Buck hums, thumb swiping over the back of Eddie’s hand. He doesn’t even think Buck realizes he’s doing it. “You know, when I broke up with Tommy, he asked if it was because of you.”
Eddie blinks, meeting Buck’s gaze. “Me? Why?”
Buck snorts. “Eddie… it wasn’t Tommy’s attention I was trying to get.”
“Oh,” he mumbles, looking down at their joined hands. “You wanted my attention?”
“I always want your attention,” Buck confirms, giving Eddie’s hand another squeeze. “And I want to date you. If that wasn’t clear. I mean, fuck, Eddie, I’d marry you tomorrow if you asked me to.”
Eddie’s head snaps up, meeting Buck’s gaze. There’s a fondness in his eyes that Eddie has seen directed at him before, but it’s… has he really missed it this whole time? God, if he’d just realized what he had in front of him, maybe he could have avoided this whole mess. He wants to dissuade Buck, explain that he’s a walking nightmare right now and that no one in their right mind should date him, but he doesn’t. He can’t. Instead, he bites his lip and whispers, “can I kiss you?”
Buck doesn’t even bother verbally answering. His free hand cups Eddie’s cheek and then he’s leaning in slowly, clearly giving Eddie enough time to back off if he wants to. He doesn’t. Buck’s lips are on his in half a breath, and he feels like his heart might beat straight out of his chest. He’s always been sort of indifferent to kissing, but this… Buck’s mouth on his is really something else. He needs more of it. He drops Buck’s hand, reaching out to grab his waist and pull him closer. Buck huffs a laugh against his lips, but seems to get the memo, shuffling closer until their legs are pressed together. Buck’s hands are so gentle on his face, and Eddie’s not exaggerating when he says it’s the best kiss he’s ever had.
He’s not sure how long they sit there, just reveling in the fact that they get to kiss now, but at some point they’d shuffled so that Buck was comfortably straddling Eddie’s lap. Eddie’s hands are under Buck’s shirt, tracing the miles of warm skin beneath. They’re mostly just stupidly grinning at each other now, but it’s fucking incredible. They’ll have to move at some point, Eddie is sure, but that’s for later Eddie to deal with. There’s nowhere else in the world he’d rather be right now.
X
They Facetime Chris a couple of hours later, and Chris is beyond ecstatic. He wastes no time asking Buck to move in permanently, and Eddie even manages to agree, saying that maybe he should just stay. Buck stares at him, and Eddie gives him a soft smile and a shrug.
“You basically live here anyway, Buck,” he murmurs, brushing a hand through his curls. They’re soft, free of product since they’re off today, and Buck leans into the touch. “Besides, with the housing market like it is? Who knows how long Bobby and Athena will need your loft?”
Buck bites his lip. “A-are you sure? I mean, it’s a big step, isn’t it? Moving in?”
Eddie snorts, and he can see Chris roll his eyes on Buck’s phone screen. “Buck, I don’t really think anything would be a big step for us at this point. Like I said, you basically live here anyway. Even before you gave Bobby and Athena your loft, you had two drawers in my dresser and a chunk of clothes in my closet. We keep all of your favorite foods in stock, and you cook dinner here most nights. You even brought your own pillow over because you stayed here enough to complain about the shi—bad couch pillows.”
Chris laughs. “Heard that! Swear jar, Dad!”
Eddie rolls his eyes, but smiles and drops a dollar into the jar on the coffee table. “Honestly, it would probably make more sense anyway,” he continues, hand absently carding through Buck’s hair. “We’d be able to see you all the time, we can just carpool to work. I know Chris would love to have you here.” He drops his voice lower, murmuring, “I’d get to wake up with you in the mornings.”
Buck blinks quickly, eyes watery. “I-I would love that. I just don’t want to mess this—us—up.”
Eddie shakes his head. “Buck, you could never mess us up. Okay? After everything we’ve been through together? An earthquake, a tsunami, me being buried underground, you being struck by lightning? God couldn’t tear us apart even if He wanted to,” Eddie says with a grin, pulling Buck into a kiss.
“Ewww! Oh no, wait, you’re going to do this all the time now, aren’t you? What have I done?”
Buck huffs a laugh, settling against Eddie’s side as they both turn back to Christopher. “Sure are, bud. You wanted this!”
Christopher pouts, but Eddie can see right through it. He knows his son well enough to know how excited he is. “I know, but I didn’t think about you guys kissing all the time! You’re gonna be so gross!”
Eddie grins. “Well, as your parents, I’m pretty sure it’s our job to be gross.” He can feel Buck stiffen against him and drops a gentle kiss to his forehead, whispering, “you are his parent, Buck. Have been for a while.”
Chris clears his throat, so Eddie turns his attention back to Buck’s phone. “I want to stay for two more weeks. My cousins are going to a summer camp then, so if that’s okay, I’ll come back then?”
Eddie sags with relief, draping his arm around Buck’s shoulders. “Of course, bud. You know you don’t have to come back then if you don’t want to, right?”
Christopher nods. “I know. But I know you only lied to me because you were hurting. I’m still mad about it.”
“You’re allowed to be mad about it, mijo, okay? I know I really hurt you, and I’m sorry. I never should have let things get so… twisted up. I should have gone back to Frank as soon as I realized just how deeply everything was affecting me. I can’t go back and fix it, but I can promise you that I’ll do my best to be honest with you from now on, and I’ll keep working through things with Frank.”
Chris nods again, hugging a pillow to his chest. “Thank you.”
Buck smiles and presses a kiss to his temple. “I’m proud of you, Eds.”
They chat quietly for a little while longer, Eddie tucked into Buck’s side as they listen to Chris fill them in on all the fun things he’s been doing over the summer. Eddie’s warm and comfortable and his son will be back home in two weeks, and Buck will move in, and everything will be as it should. He smiles to himself, sitting up to press a kiss to Buck’s cheek and wrap an arm around his middle.
It was a pain in the ass getting here, but here is pretty damn good.
High school sweethearts?
Hi Ashley! Long time no see, so glad that you’re back 💗
I made a moodboard and an introduction to the story here but I’m posting a snippet as well 👀
Buck’s eyes scanned the crowd, searching for a familiar face or rather - one particular familiar face - at his high school reunion. Life hadn’t been so easy for him back then but now when he had become a public figure, people that he had never spoken to, took a sudden interest in him. But there was only one face that he truly longed to see.
And that’s when he saw him. Eddie Diaz, the man that he had loved since he was 16. And hadn’t seen since he was 19. That was over a decade ago now.
The brown eyed man bore clear signs of aging, small lines starting to form around the corners of his eyes. Yet he hadn’t seem to have changed at all - a big, bright smile plastered on his face as he greeted old classmates and friends.
Buck discreetly slipped his fingers under his shirt, fingers seeking the silver chain that held the promise ring that Eddie gave him back in high school. It rested against his skin, concealed from view but stayed a constant reminder of the chapter of his life that had meant everything. Eddie had been his whole world for years.
Hesitant yet excited, he approached Eddie on unsteady feet and as soon as Eddie’s eyes turned to him, a wave of nostalgia washed over him, setting back time instantly.
“Eddie, is that really you?” He chuckled like he could ever forget the face of a man that he had loved for almost half of his life. Eddie turned to face him and somehow the world seemed to stop spinning, memories of shared laughter and secret glances clear as the summer sky.
“Buck?” Eddie’s voice held a hint of disbelief. The stark blue eyed man in front of him had aged amazingly, standing like the masterpiece that he was in front of him.
It took another moment for the two of them to share an embrace and a laugh of nervousness escaped Buck’s mouth.
“Wow you look-…”
“Older? Taller? More rugged?” Buck joked, unable to take the situation seriously. As much as he had longed to see Eddie again, it stung. Years had passed, years that Eddie promised that they would spend together and then never did.
“I was going to say good but sure, yeah, that too” Eddie returned the laugh, still able to read Buck’s voice and body language like an open book.
A bit painstakingly awkward, the two of them started to catch up and for a moment, everything seemed to be exactly like it was back then.
The love was never lost, it just wasn’t their time.
Until Eddie raised his hand to comb through his hair - something he did when he was feeling out of place - that Buck saw the wedding ring on Eddie’s finger.
“Married, huh?” He questioned, a bittersweet smile playing on his lips.
Eddie's expression shifted, a mix of emotions crossing his face. "Yeah, I met someone after college. Her name's Shannon, and we have a son called Christopher”
Buck nodded, trying to mask the disappointment that he felt. “That’s great, Eddie. I’m happy for you. Glad to see that you’re doing well” Buck’s words were laced with something that resembled a mix of sarcasm and sadness.
Just as the conversation settled into a slightly awkward silence, a woman approached, wrapping her arm around Eddie's waist. "Eddie, who's this?" she asked, glancing at Buck with a careful smile.
Eddie introduced them, "Shannon, this is Evan. He’s an old friend”
They were never just friends.
Summary: (Y/n) and Chris decide to give Eddie the best present he could wish for on Father's day.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Can you remember what day it is today?" (Y/n) pulled Christopher's top over his head, watching the way his hair bounced and puffed up around his head while she helped him slip his arms in and pull it down.
"Daddy's day," Chris smiled brightly and brought his hands down to rest on (Y/n)'s shoulders so she could help him stand up and pull up his bottoms.
"Yep, it's father's day so while daddy's in bed, we need to get his presents ready."
Eddie always tried his best to get father's day off no matter what job he was doing because it was the day he could celebrate Chris. He was always telling Chris that he was the reason Eddie was a dad so it was technically his day too. They all spent the day together and to get the day off, Eddie had taken the night shift last night and got in at six this morning.
The plan was for Eddie to get some sleep and recharge and then after dinnertime he would get up, get showered and they would all go out for the afternoon.
At least, that was what Eddie thought the plan was.
(Y/n) and Chris had decided different. They had a special surprise for him this year so the plan was to get his presents ready, bake him his favourite cake and make time for Chris to make him his card. Then they would wake him up, surprise him with his presents and then he could decide where they went in the afternoon.
(Y/n) followed Chris out his bedroom and down to the kitchen and when he held his arms up expectingly, she smiled and lifted him up onto the kitchen counter. It was easier for him to sit on the side and help rather than rest his weight against the counter and fumble to lean over. This was easier on his legs.
"What cake are we making for him?"
Chris leaned his head from side to side, letting his eyes glance around the kitchen for inspiration. They had made a large batch of pancakes, half of which Chris had demolished for breakfast, and the rest were waiting for Eddie to devour when he got up.
"Chocolate,"
"Alright! You know what to do,"
They had a well working system in place since baking was something Chris loved to do and was good at. Plus it helped him with his motor skills.
He cracked three eggs into a cup which he then passed to his mum so she could make sure no shells were left in. And when (Y/n) weighed all the ingredients, Chris tipped them into the bowl and smiled when a gust of flour and cocoa sprinkled up into the air and clouded his glasses.
When it was all mixed, (Y/n) held the bowl and Chris scraped the mix into the dish. Waiting for the cake to cook was the part Chris didn't like, he wasn't good at waiting around, he wanted it to be done in two minutes and cooled immediately so he could decorate it.
"Okay, let's get his card done while we wait, sweetheart." (Y/n) looped her arms around her son's waist but when she went to put him down on his feet, he shook his head and giggled.
With a roll of her eyes, (Y/n) kissed his forehead and lifted him higher on her chest until she could hold his legs and carry him properly. He had a thing for being carried around and (Y/n) knew he was probably because he was carried a lot as a child. Although they encouraged him to walk, they did physio and a lot of training to get him walking and help him walk without his crutches, they carried him around while he was little. If they were in crowded places or they had to hurry to catch the bus or make a quick exit.
And when Chris got nervous or upset as a child he would stop walking and wait to be carried around because it calmed him down. It was a habit he hadn't quite grown out of yet and something both parents loved to do.
He buried his face in (Y/n)'s chest and tickled his hair against her neck while she walked over to the dining table. She got the colouring box out that was full of stickers, gems, glitter, felt pens, paint pens and piles and piles of coloured card. Crafts was another thing Chris loved to do.
(Y/n) sat down next to him and sorted through the small bits she and Chris had gone out to buy last week. Chris had picked out a dark blue pillow that said 'World's Best Daddy' in white italics with a love heart at the bottom. And they had designed a shirt with the outline of a fireman on the front that said 'Smoking Hot' in the middle. Along with the cake they were making and the card which (Y/n) realised was going to be rather big, Eddie was going to be spoilt.
But his main present was the thing (Y/n) was most excited to give him and it was something that couldn't be bought in any shop.
"Can I have some card please baby?"
When Chris handed over a piece of light aqua blue card, (Y/n) folded it in half and grabbed a red felt tip. On the front she wrote 'Main Present' then on the inside in italics, she wrote Pending <3.
He wouldn't know what that meant which meant Chris could excitedly explain what his main present was going to be. Not that Chris really understood either but Eddie would once they explained.
It surprised (Y/n) that Chris stayed at the table for a good hour drawing, colouring and editing his card to make it just right. It gave the cake time to bake and cool and kept him occupied. The end result made (Y/n)'s heart swell. There was Eddie on the front in his fireman uniform, a hose in his hands and a fire in the corner that he was putting out. Then in scribbled green pen was The Best Daddy and about fifty XO's inside.
"Okay baby, I've wrote down what we talked about yesterday, do you think you can remember to tell daddy all of this?" It wasn't a lot but she had gone through what Eddie's main present would be when he was at work yesterday. Chris didn't understand and (Y/n) didn't expect him to but he was happy nonetheless and he was desperate to be the one to give Eddie his main present.
"Yeah, do you still have the present?"
"I do, it's al safe and sound. Let's decorate the cake, what do you want on it?" (Y/n) knew she didn't have to ask, she knew exactly what her son would put on the cake.
And she was right when she followed him into the kitchen and watched him get out a big bar of chocolate that he bashed against the counter to break it up. Chris was just like his dad, chocolate was their weakness, especially melted chocolate that they always had when they ate strawberries.
"Are you leaving some for daddy's cake?" (Y/n) snapped a quick picture when Chris shoved a spoonful into his mouth and dribbled more down his chin as he went in for another mouthful. Eddie would be lucky if he got any on his cake.
"Maybe,"
The counter was covered in chocolate dribbles and splotches when Chris tipped the bowl over the cake and giggled as it covered every square inch of cake. For the top, he threw a whole jar of sprinkles over the top along with some edible glitter left over from (Y/n)'s birthday and then a single white candle in the middle of the cake.
"Done!"
"Let's get a picture then,"
Chris looked up at the camera and grinned, holding his hands out towards the cake he'd made with smeared chocolate all down his face. (Y/n) grabbed a handful of wetwipes to clean him up but they both froze when they heard Eddie groaning from the bedroom and the door open. He was getting up. He wasn't supposed to be up for another half an hour.
"Baby-"
"Ahh, he's awake!" Chris was hobbling out of the kitchen and speeding down the hall before (Y/n) had chance to clean him up.
Sighing to herself, (Y/n) hastily cleaned the counter before she grabbed the cake and put it on the table along with the rest of the presents and Chris's card proudly in front. She knew what Chris was going to do, he was going to drag Eddie in here for his presents before he got chance to get a shower or get dressed. If he was awake he was getting spoilt straight away, no room for debate.
"Daddy! Daddy,"
Eddie rubbed his eyes with the base of his hand but his lips curved into a smile when Chris's voice stopped him in his tracks. He barely stepped out of the bedroom before he was caught redhanded trying to get into the bathroom. He paused in the hallway, wearing nothing but his boxers and waited for Chris to meet him.
"Hey- oof, wow bud," Eddie coiled his arms around Chris and slumped back into the wall when his boy nearly took him down to the floor with his force.
"Happy daddy's day!" Chris tucked his chin into Eddie's stomach and smiled up at him with his arms tightly wrapped around his waist. The cheesy grin on his face made the tiredness wash away instantly and Eddie grinned down at him and kissed the top of his head. This was why he always wanted the day off, his boy always managed to make the day special for him.
"Thank you," Leaning down, Eddie kissed the top of his head and then peppered kisses across his cheeks. "Am I allowed a shower quick?"
"No, you need presents." Chris's voice gave no room for debate and he wasn't taking no for an answer. He turned around, took Eddie's hand and started to guide him down the hallway towards the kitchen. Eddie mumbled a quiet 'okay' and followed along. "Presents!"
He moved his hands to Chris's shoulders and kissed the back of his head while he helped him sit down at the table. When Chris was sat down, Eddie moved over to (Y/n) and wrapped his arms around her waist, reeling her into his chest like a fish on a hook. He tucked his face into the side of her neck and smiled against her skin, kissing just behind her ear when he felt her hands smoothing up and down his bare chest.
"Happy father's day," (Y/n) brought her hand up to cup the side of his face and kissed him sweetly.
"Thank you, mi amor," Eddie leaned forward to kiss her again, tilting her back with how far he pushed into her until a voice interrupted them.
"Daddy, open your presents!"
"Alright, alright I'm here." He pulled out a chair and sat down but kept an arm reeled around (Y/n)'s waist so he could pull her onto his lap. She leaned back into his chest and kissed his neck a few times until he squeezed her hip, silently telling her that if she carried on she would get him wound up and he wouldn't be able to do anything about it with Chris wide awake and rearing to play.
Leaning forward, Eddie rested his free arm on the table and looked over all the stuff they had laid out for him. He had been spoiled today.
"You made me a cake?"
"And pancakes,"
"God, I'm starving," Eddie pulled the cake closer to get a look at all the sugary sprinkles on top. He could see that Chris had gone a little overboard but it was as sweet as it was endearing and the thought made his heart explode. "Looks great, bud. What should I open first?"
Chris grabbed the small blue and red bag and slid it across the table for Eddie, clapping his hands when Eddie shuffled (Y/n) further into the middle of his lap so he could weave both arms around her and open his present. A deep chuckle left his lips when he held up the shirt that he was definitely going to wear to the station tomorrow and show off to the guys.
"Wow, I'm gonna look so cool tomorrow, thank you." He laid the shirt out on the chair next to him and grabbed the second bag on the table, grinning when he pulled out a cushion. There was a collection of various cushions on his and (Y/n)'s bed. Ranging from small square ones that said His Lordship and His Ladyship to a deep purple one Eddie got (Y/n) when they got married that said Mrs Diaz with a ring symbol at the bottom.
When Chris was born, (Y/n) got the picture of Eddie when he first held Chris printed on a pillow and that sat proudly on the chair in their bedroom.
"Here's your card,"
"That is amazing. Can I take this to show Buck tomorrow? He'll love it," Eddie reeled Chris into his side and kissed the top of his head. He had a collection of cards in his top bedside drawer of all the cards, keychains and little things Chris had made him over the years. But all their favourites got stuck on the fridge or in picture frames on the wall.
"And as always, you get a main present."
Gently cupping Eddie's face, (Y/n) pulled him in for a kiss before she reached over and handed him the small slip of card. She could see the wheels turning in his mind to work out what it was. He could never tell whether he was getting tickets to a show or a starter to a treasure hunt around the house to find his actual present. That was something they did on Chris's birthday and (Y/n) started doing it for Eddie too because Chris loved showing him around the house and hunting for clues with him.
"Pending? I don't get it," Eddie turned the card over and did a quick sweep of the table again, but he still came up clueless.
Had he missed something? Was he supposed to find another clue somewhere on the table and start searching for something? Did he have to wait until this afternoon or tonight for his present? That would be amazing if it turned out to be the latter.
(Y/n) moved to stand up and turned around so she was facing Eddie who watched as Chris got up too and moved to stand near (Y/n). Seeing as they were both stood up, Eddie got up as well and folded his arms over his chest, smiling at his family as he waited to be told what was happening.
"Come on, someone spill. What am I waiting for?"
"Go ahead baby," (Y/n) rubbed Chris's shoulders and kissed the side of his head to encourage him. They had gone over what he had to say and the paper was in her back pocket just in case he needed it.
"You can have your main present in," Chris turned round and looked back at (Y/n) who smiled and mouthed the words he was doing his best to remember. "Seven months."
"What?!" Eddie threw his head back with a laugh that creased his eyes at the corners. He planted his hands on his hips and cocked a brow at his boy who was biting down on his thumb and giggling madly, looking between his feet and his dad. He clearly knew something Eddie didn't that was making him excited, he loved all of Eddie's reactions to any surprise that he got. "Why do I have to wait that long?"
Crouching down, Eddie reached out and grabbed Chris by his sides and pulled him closer until his arms bumped into Eddie's chest. Chris tilted his head back, still giggling and biting his thumb, a habit he always did when he was happy or excited about something. And when Eddie started to tickle his sides, Chris leaned forward and burrowed his face into Eddie neck and patted his chest.
A shiver bolted down Eddie's spine when he felt Chris laughing into his neck. He snook a glance up at (Y/n) who was leaning forward on one of the chairs with a knowing smile on her lips and a glint in her eye that made him grin.
"Come on, why do I have to wait?"
"It's not ready yet."
"Oh, it's not? Can you at least tell me what it is? I deserve to know why I'm waiting so long," Eddie gently pulled Chris away from his chest so he could look at him and he waited patiently while Chris looked over at (Y/n) for approval.
"You can tell him, sweetheart." (Y/n) nodded while she tangled her fingers together in front of her. They had rehearsed what he was supposed to say so he remembered and got it right and didn't come out saying something entirely different. She just prayed he could get it right but she was sure he would.
"Mummy has a baby in her belly."
Chris pulled his hand away from his mouth long enough to speak properly so Eddie could understand him but as soon as he spoke, he was biting down on his thumb again and patting Eddie's shoulder happily. He watched the sparkle light up his dad's eyes and watched his jaw drop before he tilted his head back to look at (Y/n).
"Are you serious?" Eddie's thumbs smoothed up and down Chris's sides but his eyes were focused on (Y/n).
"Now you have two reasons to celebrate father's day,"
With a quick peck to the side of Chris's head, Eddie tickled him again before he moved over to (Y/n) and lifted her off her feet. His arms cocooned around her waist, pulling her up into his chest and his face nuzzled into the crook of her neck and shoulder as he started to laugh.
This was definitely not the present he had been expecting but it was more than he could have hoped for.
(Y/n) gripped his wrists, feeling the tears start to well up in her eyes when Eddie set her back down so he could cup her face in his hands. His lips were hot and feverish against hers as he kissed her between laughs before he went down on his knees and moved his hands to her hips. She stayed still, happily letting her husband roll up her shirt and slip his hands down beneath her jeans and underwear to hold her hips tight.
But when Eddie kissed her stomach, he felt a pair of arms curling around his neck and a chin perching on his shoulder. Chris didn't know what Eddie was doing but whatever it was, he wanted to join in too.
"Baby?" He giggled, pointing towards (Y/n)'s stomach.
"Yeah, baby's in there,"
"How'd it get there? Do you have to get it out?" He tightened his arms around Eddie's neck and leaned onto his back, smiling when Eddie tipped his head forward into (Y/n)'s stomach and pulled her closer like he was silently asking for her help.
He wasn't sure how to answer that in a way that Chris would understand.
"That's just where babies come from, bud, like you when you were a baby."
"Oh,"
(Y/n) dragged her fingers through Eddie's hair, slowly smoothing back the curls until she heard him murmur, "Thank you, mi amor," against her stomach.
What a present.

Because Dove is such a sweetheart and I'm a sucker for girldad!Buck!
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
And this to help you finish!
Just out of curiosity, do you have a ballpark of how much you still have left to write for this mammoth of a fantastic fic? :)
Ahhh thank you! For TWATYTK, I know exactly how much more story I want to write, but not how long it'll end up being. Basically, I think I can wrap up this kid plot in a few tight chapters, but the final storyline I'm not sure yet. Then an epilogue.

He nods. “I got hurt at work one time, and when I did, I got confused for a bit and thought I lost Bobby.”
“Captain Bobby?”
“Mhm. You can just call him Bobby.” Buck tells her. “But yeah, for a few months after that, I’d wake up scared he was gone.”
“What did you do?” She asks.
“When I woke up in the morning and I was scared, I’d send him a text. If he responded, I knew my dream wasn’t real.”
Dove considers this.
“That’s smart.”
“Thanks,” he smiles. Even though in all reality it’s rather basic. “What do you say? Can we make that work for you and I?”
“I don’t have a phone,” she reminds him.
“That’s true,” he says. And maybe he should look into a tablet with some sort of kid-safe messaging app. “But if I’m home, you can knock on my door. And if I’m not, whichever adult is with you will be able to text me.”
Dove nods. “Okay.”
“Sometimes I could be on a call, and it may take me a little while. But I’ll always respond, okay?”
“Okay,” Dove exhales. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Can we watch the movie now?” She asks.
Buck chuckles before hitting play.
“Of course we can.”
▪️▪️▪️
Halfway through the movie, as Dove is beginning to fall asleep, still tucked into him, Buck’s brain can’t help but fill with a rather melancholy thought. He wonders if Christopher ever dreams that he’s in his old bed, in his old home. He wonders if, when he wakes up, he’s disappointed.
iv.
A week or so later, and it’s clear Eddie has fallen back into a sort of slump. Whatever joy he’d reclaimed by spending time with Buck and Dove has been dampened with the same old sadness catching up with him. Buck thinks he won’t be able to outrun it, with Chris gone.
It’s not that he’s moody or withdrawn. He doesn’t hide from Buck like he had when Dove came home. He’s just muffled. Like there’s tinted glass around him. And Buck just knows. He knows Eddie well enough to see it. He just doesn’t know if there’s anything he can do to fix it.
“Come over,” Buck insists at the end of a particularly rough shift. He doesn’t want Eddie returning to an empty house.
“I’m not going to be great company today,” Eddie dismisses the idea.
Dove will be at school for several more hours, so it doesn’t really matter.

But he is so curious about this child anyway.
“What do you think they’ll be like?” He asks Eddie late one night in early May. “Do you think they’ll end up looking kind of like Maddie?”
Eddie chuckles tiredly. “I don’t know. That’s assuming a fair balance of both sides. The Diaz genes did not seem very strong in Christopher’s case anyway.”
“Uh, unless you’re ignoring his entire personality?”
“He’s got plenty of Shannon there, too,” Eddie points out.
“And lots of his dad,” Buck says.
“Maybe our kid will just be a clone of Adriana, but even clumsier, because of you,” Eddie posits.
“Oof,” Buck replies. “Well, at least then we know they’ll be funnier than you.”
“Hey!”
It goes on and on like that. Lots of nights they lay awake imagining it. It’s like they’re both so wrapped up in this shared dream. Buck finds himself thinking about it when he doesn’t even mean to.
He thinks about it a lot when he gets invited by Connor and Kameron to their son’s second birthday party. Eddie can’t make it due to a commitment with Chris that day. So Buck goes alone. With a toddler’s gift in hand, and the strange thought that he will spend the afternoon celebrating a little boy who could be a future version of what he’s going to have. He knows it’s probably not fair to his future child or Luke to compare the two of them, but he can’t help it. Every little thing Luke does - every big smile or adorably mispronounced word - and Buck can’t help but wonder.
The baby fever is actually sort of crippling.
Kameron seems to notice.
“Are you and Eddie thinking of having one?” She asks. “Or, another one, I should say.”
“We’re actually in the middle of planning it,” he says. “His sister is donating eggs. We’re just trying to find a surrogate.”
“Really? That’s fantastic!” Kameron beams.
“Yeah, thank you,” Buck smiles back at her. “We’re pretty excited.”
“So, you don’t have a surrogate chosen yet?” She asks.
“No,” Buck huffs. “It’s quite the process, as I’ve found out.”
“I bet,” Kameron nods sympathetically. “And I’m guessing, hard to find someone you trust with your literal baby?”
“Yep,” Buck agrees. “Kind of scary looking through profiles of strangers. But, hey, that’s the reality in our case.”
“Right,” Kameron says. “The reality.”
He doesn’t think anything of their conversation. But then, two days later, she calls him.

Recovery
For day two of Flufftober2023: Family, Friend, Loved One and with the bonus/extra prompt: “You’ve told your family?”
AO3 Link here
“-do you think they are?”
“Well, that one is our grandson –“
There’s a solid smack to someone’s body. “Ramon, I know that.”
“And that one is Buck.”
“I know that too. But who is the woman and the child?”
“Helena, I know as much as you do.”
The voices don’t make much sense as Buck transitions from sleep to wakefulness. There is a familiar ache in his body that has been there since he had woken up in the hospital after being struck by lightning. Buck knows that when he moves it will become more pronounced and so he simply allows himself to stay in the limbo between sleep and awake. He can feel fingers in his hair and there is a solid weight on his chest. Jee-Yun, if Buck’s sluggish mind is correct. And the smaller body pressed against his side, radiating a comfortable warmth, a head rested on his shoulder. That would be Christopher.
There is the sound of a door opening and closing and the rest of the noise is lost on Buck as he slowly sinks back into sleep.
“Mum, dad? What are you doing here?”
Buck feels himself pulled out of sleep once more at the sound of his best friend’s voice.
“We decided to come for a visit,” Ramon answered. “To check up on you and Christopher. And Buck of course, too.”
“Oh,” Eddie said, and he sounded flustered. Buck willed himself to wake up further, but he was so comfortable and the thought of dealing with his aching body made him stay where he was.
“Who are they?” Helena asked.
“Well, you know your grandson, Christopher,” Eddie started to say.
“You and your father are not funny,” Helena huffed.
“You know Buck. That’s his sister Maddie and her daughter Jee-Yun.”
“That doesn’t explain why they are asleep on your couch, Eddie,” Helena said, her voice strained. “Buck shouldn’t be on the couch. He should be in bed, not squashed up like this with the little one his chest.”
“Mum,” Eddie said softly. “It’s been a very long week, and I would appreciate it if you didn’t wake them. They need rest. All of them and if they get that on the couch, then I’m happy to leave them there for the time being.”
“Oh sweetheart, I just don’t want him being sore –“
There was some shuffling, and the voice grew weaker and then Buck was lost to sleep once more until fingers started poking at his cheeks. He snuffled, snorting and blinked his eye opened. He blinked away the film that coated his gaze and when it cleared, he found himself staring at his niece.
“Buck,” Jee-Yun cooed, poking her fingers at his cheeks again.
“Jee,” Buck’s voice came out rough and sounding like gravel.
“Wakey, Buck. Snack time,” Jee-Yun said as she pushed herself up on Buck’s chest, her little fingers curling into the hoodie he wore.
Buck gasped as Jee-Yun’s hands pressed into his lightening scar which was still tender to touch.
Maddie jerked awake at the sound, her fingers tightening in Buck’s hair, yanking tightly.
Buck let out a strangled yelp that startled Chris awake, his elbows digging into Buck’s still broken ribs. Buck let out a groan as everyone struggled in the tight puppy-pile they had created for themselves on the Diaz couch.
“Oh, shoot! Buck, I’m sorry,” Maddie cried, releasing her fingers from Buck’s hair, petting him almost frantically to sooth the pain.
Jee-Yun was struggling to change her position, her knobbly knees digging right into Buck’s groin.
Buck let out a strained, pained noise in the back of his throat, arm tightening around Jee-Yun to get her to stop. Another wave of pain flared through his side as Chris attempted to wiggle out of his spot where he was still pressed up between Buck and the couch.
“Jee! No, stop!” Maddie cried, trying to shift out from where Buck head was in her lap.
“Everyone, stop.”
At the sound of Eddie’s commanding voice, the living room of the Diaz home fell still. Buck realized that the commotion must have brought Eddie running from somewhere deeper in the house. As Buck looked at Eddie, and he could see the way he was assessing the situation like he was out on a call. Buck could also see Helena and Ramon hovering nearby, hovering uncertainly.
“Alright, come here Jee-Yun,” Eddie said, his voice soft as he reached for the toddler.
“Dee Dee! Snack time,” Jee-Yun told Eddie as she was scooped off Buck chest, the pressure easing off his groin instantly. It still smarted but at least her knees were no longer digging into his sensitive area.
Eddie pressed a kiss to Jee-Yun’s cheek, making a growly noise that had her giggling before he set her down on the floor. He made sure she had her balance before turning back to the couch.
“Okay Chris. You’re next. Arms up,” Eddie said.
Chris didn’t protest, knowing the no-nonsense tone Eddie had taken on. He stuck his arm up in the air, careful not to hit Buck as he did. Eddie leaned over Buck (and Buck swallowed at how close Eddie was to him and tried not to let his thoughts drift into something entirely inappropriate for the situation he was currently in) and Eddie placed his hands under Chris’s armpits. With a small grunt, Eddie hoisted Chris up from his position, careful not to let Chris brush against Buck in anyway, and into the air. He whirled Chris around, gently depositing him feet first on the floor.
“You good?” Eddie asked Chris, smoothing a hand across his hair that was sticking up in all directions.
“Yeah,” Chris said, clinging to Eddie for a beat before he was pushing himself away, shuffling over to Jee-Yun. Buck watched as Chris took Jee’s hand in his and the sight made his heart melt and the pain lessen.
Eddie turned back to Buck, giving a little grimace. “Are you okay?”
“I’ve woken up in worse ways,” Buck grunted. The pain had faded to a dull throb, but he knew that if he didn’t have something for it soon, he would be worse off for it later.
“Maddie let’s get him up,” Eddie instructed gently.
“I’m so sorry,” Maddie said, dipping to press a kiss to Buck’s forehead. “Ready?”
With the help of Maddie and Eddie, Buck was shifted into a sitting position. By the time he was upright, he felt as if he had run a marathon.
“Buck? Are you okay?” Chris asked, watching Buck worriedly.
“Yeah, superman. I’m good,” Buck smiled at Chris. “That was a pretty good nap, wasn’t it?”
“One of our best ones yet,” Chris agreed, a bright smile lifting his cheeks.
Buck laughed, the pain seeming to ease in the wake of Chris’s comment.
Maddie smoothed a hand over Buck’s back before she climbed to her feet. She moved over to Jee-Yun and Chris, pausing to run a hand over Eddie’s arm as she passed him. When she reached her daughter and Chris, she took each Jee’s other hand in hers. “How about I get us some snacks?”
“Snack time!” Jee-Yun cheered, jumping up and down on the spot.
“Can we have the yoghurt pouches?” Chris asked, perking up.
“Yep! I brought your favourites,” Maddie smiled. “Do you want your crutches, Chris? Or can you make it on your own?”
“I can do it,” Chris said, walking forward but never released Jee’s hand.
As they headed to the kitchen, Buck heard Chris say – “What kind of snack does Buck want?”
“Pain scale?” Eddie asked quietly, sitting down on the coffee table opposite Buck. Buck looked down as Eddie’s knee pressed against his own and his thought’s drifted as he got lost in how good it felt.
“Buck?” Eddie prompted, dragging Buck to reality.
“Oh, uh, yeah. Pain. I have some.”
Eddie snorted, giving his head a little shake. He tuned to look at his parents and Buck started as he realized they were still there, watching the whole scene. He cheeks flushed hot, and Buck ducked his head to avoid their stares.
“Dad, could you grab a glass of water and the pill box on the kitchen counter. Maddie knows where it is,” Eddie instructed.
“Of course,” Ramon said. “I’ll be right back.” And then he was disappearing through the door to the kitchen.
Eddie’s strong palm landed on Buck’s thigh, gently smoothing back and forth in a comforting motion. Buck’s mind was still a little sluggish after waking up (and the doctors assured him it was normal and as he healed it would get better) and Eddie touching him was distracting in a pleasurable way that wasn’t helping the situation.
“You with me?” Eddie asked softly.
“Getting there,” Buck admitted. “You left?”
“To get some groceries,” Eddie explained. “Maddie was the only one awake when I left. Guess your puppy pile was too good to resist.”
Buck hummed. “Should have joined us.” Then Buck’s mind caught up with what he said, and he flushed pink.
Eddie squeezed his thigh, a smile flickering at his lips. “Next time.”
Ramon was striding back into the living room before Buck could give it anymore thought. Ramon crossed the room, handing the water to Buck and the pill box to Eddie. In a routine they had become familiar over the years of one of them having an injury, Eddie placed the pills in Buck’s hand, and he swallowed them down.
“Thanks,” Buck said, handing Eddie the glass of water.
Eddie took the glass, handing it off to Ramon who took it easily. When Eddie’s hands were free again, he placed them back on Buck’s knees.
“Do you need to eat with those pills, Buck?” Ramon asked, drawing Buck’s attention away from the heat of Eddie’s palms.
“Yeah, I think so,” Buck said, looking to Eddie who nodded with confirmation.
“I know your sister was talking about snacks,” Helena said. “But I’ll get started on some dinner for you all.”
“I can cook –“ Eddie begun to say but Helena cut him off with a wave of her hand.
“Nonsense! Like you said, you’ve all had a big week. Let us take care of you boys,” Helena said and before Buck could form the words thank you she vanished into the kitchen.
“I’ll go get your snack,” Ramon chuckled, following his wife into the kitchen leaving Buck alone with Eddie in the living room.
“When did you parents get here?” Buck asked, frowning with confusion. “Did you tell me they were coming?”
“No, I didn’t know either,” Eddie shook his head, smiling softly. “They came down to check on us, see how we were doing after everything. To check on you.”
Buck was still trying to connect the dots, feeling as if he was still two steps behind. “Why would they come and check on me?”
“Because you’re my partner and they want to make sure you’re okay,” Eddie said gently.
Buck’s only been out of the hospital for a week but in those moments when he was waking up from his coma, he and Eddie had finally come together in the way they had been building towards for years. It was still new, still so fresh, but it felt so right. Eddie had been the one to bring him back to Diaz home and get him set up for the long recovery (and Buck suspected that if Eddie had his way, Buck would never see if loft again. He couldn’t say he was too disappointed by the thought).
“You’ve told your family? About us?” Buck asked, looking at Eddie with surprise.
Eddie squeezed his knees. “Yes. I love you, Buck. This is it for me. You and me.”
Buck released a long breath, staring at Eddie with wide eyes. “I love you too. Eddie, I love you so much. I can’t believe you told your mum and dad about us.”
Eddie ducked his head, cheeks flushing pink. “Me either.”
Buck chuckled and he leaned forward, capturing Eddie’s lips in a light kiss. “I’m so proud of you. I love you.”
“Love you,” Eddie repeated, kissing Buck one last time before pulling away. He lifted a hand from Buck’s knee, cupping Buck’s cheek instead. “I’m so glad you came back to us.”
Buck leaned into the warmth of Eddie’s palm; eyes fluttering shut at the wave of emotion that crashed through him. “Me too. I’m glad I didn’t miss out on this. On us.”
Eddie’s thumb stroked Buck’s cheek, the touch, the safety of being in Eddie’s hands, and the rhythm of each stroke lulled Buck into a light doze.
“Hey,” Eddie’s voice was soft but firm. “Don’t fall asleep. You need to eat.”
With what felt like a herculean effort, Buck forced his eyes back open and blinked blearily at Eddie. “And then we’ll take a nap?”
Eddie chuckled, Buck’s favourite smile lighting up his face. “Yeah, sweetheart. Then we can take a nap.”
“You owe me one,” Buck said, taking Eddie’s hand from his cheek and linking their fingers together instead.
“That I do,” Eddie grinned.
“Okay, I have snacks,” Ramon said, coming back into the room. “Buck, are you okay to eat there or do you want to move to the kitchen?”
“Kitchen,” Buck said, squeezing Eddie’s hand. “I want to eat with my family.”
Eddie’s smile lit up his whole face and Buck’s heartbeat was loud, and so wonderfully alive, in his chest at the sight. Recovery didn’t seem as hard now, not with his family by his side.

MWAH
han SWEETHEART hiiiii 🖤
these are in no particularly order because that's asking wayyyyy too much of me, teehee, but here are my fav five fics i've written <3
my brain takes a vacation just to give my heart more room
“What, baby?” He runs his hand along Christopher’s face, feeling the heat beneath his palm. The ends of his hair is wet with sweat; he doesn’t seem to be hurt but he is visibly upset. “What’s wrong?” “C’mere.” He reaches up to hook his hand around Eddie’s neck and draw him down, so they’re huddled together face to face. “I overheard somebody talking shit about Buck."
detours
“Take a detour,” he says, instead. “There’s construction on Sunset.” “Maybe one of these days there won’t be,” Buck says, smiles, and takes his leave.
in the meantime
“Hey, baby,” he says, thick with lack of sleep and disuse. “Glad to see you awake.” “Hey, Captain Diaz.” Eddie squeezes Buck’s fingers. “Holding vigil at my bedside, huh? Don’t you have some firefighters to be bossing around instead?” Buck smiles because that’s what Eddie wants him to do. “It’s pretty easy to write myself off a few shifts when my lieutenant’s in the hospital.
the dinosaurs smelled magnolias
“Marry me.” Buck blinks once, twice, and then a third time, too, as if he can’t believe what he’s hearing. “What?” Eddie draws in a breath. “I said,” he starts, reaching down to angle Buck’s hips up into his thrusts, “I love you and I want you to marry me.” Buck blinks, again. “Are you proposing to me with your dick inside me?”
the side effects of eating too many clementines
It’s a testament to the deep fondness Eddie has for Buck that he doesn’t even bat an eye when Buck shows up at his house at one in the afternoon with a box full of oranges in his hands. He’s grinning like a fool, ugly and goofy and crooked, haloed by the sun behind his big head, and something deep in Eddie’s tummy shifts. He’s used to it. That always happens when Buck’s smiling like he is right now, all child-like and full of joy and wildness, so unrelentingly kind and free that no amount of ruin or rot can take it away from him. He’s bigger and stronger and tougher and brighter than even the Library of Alexandria, and that was one of the greatest wonders of the world. Buck’s a wonder of the world, then. The most wonderful, maybe.
#it's funny to think about how far i've come since the oranges fic#like that really kickstarted not only my joy for fandom again but also my future with my girlfriend?#sorry i'm a lil mushy gushy right now but wow#WOW#talk#exhuastedpigeon#mwah han you're an angel
