back from the dead🌨️
Merry Christmas :)!🎄
Drove around aimlessly on the night of the 23rd and somehow ended up in a small snow storm, I guess that’s what happens if you drive up a hill🏔️But I got down safely despite the road being icy and having very little gas left in my car. The adventure was worth it though, I had a lovely time singing and driving (and facing my fear of driving at night lol)
Today I finally decluttered my phone and iPad (new wallpaper, deleted stuff etc.), it brought me long sought peace. Felt like something was missing before that…Now onto watching Home Alone 2📼 and then continuing my book. I got 5 new ones for Christmas and even though I do not have enough space to store them I am more than happy about my gifts :D!
I hope the holidays treat you well!
If you need someone to talk to, feel free- I’m always happy to chat or answer asks :)

this might be nuts but I think my sister & I might try to do a trip abroad with the baby next fall
#I took on a couple extra last minute students#and suddenly I have enough money to like. maybe plan a fun trip#here is my secret dream: instead of giving lots of Christmas gifts#i kind of want to have a tradition of giving a small gift or two#but then having our big joint gift be a trip#which we would ideally take in the spring/summer#and as he gets older we can read books and watch movies about the place we’re going#and then when he’s a bit older he can help plan the trip#like help pick out where we stay and what activities we do#anyway#in college and grad school I got to travel internationally almost every year#even though I was making almost no money#but then I stopped for a long time (pandemic + after)#and I just sort of forgot that like#nobody gives you permission to travel#you just have to choose to prioritize it and save for it and plan it yourself#so idk 🤷♀️#I also think that like#it could be a nightmare traveling with a small child! but also alternately#it could be a great way to get him used to it early#and also my favorite activities while traveling are always just like#wandering around a new place#and spending time getting to know it#rather than racing from place to place#so that seems like a type of travel that could be possible with a kid#and anyway idk! like any high difficulty parenting challenge#i bet even just attempting it will feel pretty great#even if things don’t go to plan#anyway we are currently considering 3 options: Netherlands or Slovenia or Nice

Today my first graders gave me a gift bag as a going away present. Many parents gave me little chocolates and gift cards already, but I was appreciative of the kids giving their own gift. I wasn't expecting much beyond a drawing of some hearts and maybe a candy. What I did not expect was to start crying as soon as i opened up a cheap gold bag filled with legos, pencils, tiny notebooks, and scissors. The nature of being 6 is to have no money and no opportunity to freely get gifts no matter how much they may want to. They didn't have money to buy but they did have time to spend. My first graders organized in secret throughout the week to find little things in their backpacks they thought I would like. Nothing expensive and the majority was little legos shapes they built during play time. The young organizer was so proud to present me with their little baggie of goodies and made sure to point out the lego she contributed. I was a mess seeing the present paired with their little note signed in gold sparkle pen. The first graders found the second graders to add their names to the note and they did their best to get signatures from the big kids too even though they only play together for a scant few minutes a day. I may have gotten quite a few fancy chocolates and coffee gift cards, but the best gift I received today was my little bag of legos that cost nothing but a pure belief that I would be happy with what made them happy.
#teaching#school#students#i have been on and off crying whenever i think of their present#one of my 5th graders was trying so hard to not cry today he was making me cry#one of my second graders did break down in tears and her mom had me take a photo with her to have a nice memory when im gone#i have to go student teach now at another school in the same district but im gonna miss my little guys so much#I've been teaching these kids for 3 years im gonna miss them all even the troublemakers#christmas#holiday gifts

so I'm very much a "I don't expect my friends to get me Christmas presents, we're all broke uni students it's totally understandable" person, however gift giving is also one of my top love languages n I don't want to be left out of having gifts. so now I'm making myself a gift basket to match the ones I'm making my homies.
#as soon as i got my first job i realised i am gonna have to physically restrain myself from buying ppl stuff all the time#goldie yaps ♡#uni students#gifts#christmas#love language

Day Seventy-Seven
Did I play this between all of my classes today? Absolutely.
youtube
I did teach actual lessons because that's how I roll. I saw APGOV students first this morning because we were running a pep rally schedule (more on that later), and I had them share out the research they'd done on civil rights activism post-1968. Then we talked about how protecting civil rights is an ongoing thing and one they're going to be responsible for in the future, and we watched AP coverage of the looming government shutdown. We did play a holiday trivia Kahoot for the last ten minutes or so, which was hilariously competitive. I played it with my ninth graders, too, but only after going over the quizzes they took yesterday, having them select books to read in our upcoming unit, and discussing what they already know about government and history.
And there were gifts! I gave out candy canes to everyone, I got cookies, gift cards, cards, and one sparkly Christmas tree made out of pipe cleaners from my students. Very sweet. I also got various little things from my cacophonous colleagues.
And the day ended with some crazy fun! The student council had gotten permission from The Principal to hold a "holiday spirit rally," and it was awesome. I hope we do it every year from now on. The spirit dress-up theme today was "color wars" (freshmen wore white, sophomores wore red, juniors wore green, and seniors wore blue) and it was really cool since each class was seated in a particular section of the gym. Us teachers sit with our advisories, so I was part of the sea of sophomore red. There were a bunch of class vs class games: mattress sledding, a wrapping relay (they had to wrap each other), human hungry, hungry hippos, and the always popular musical chairs. Our amazing drumline also performed. I think it was the best pep rally we've had in a long time. Everyone was cheering, and the vibes were so positive.
That was a great way to end the day. And now it's vacation!!!!

In Memoriam A.H.H. [V] by Alfred Tennyson
#I've been challenging myself to memorise a poem each month this year and this is my choice this month#thematically relevant because my grandpa died :'( . but also I've just been thinking about alfred tennyson a lot recently#he was so fucking gay for arthur hallam omgg. he repeatedly compares the two of them to a married couple throughout in memoriam#“ Two partners of a married life— | I looked on these and thought of thee | ... and of my spirit as of a wife”#or a whole part where he compares himself to a widow and says the only difference is that at least she has a family with her lost husband#and many more such instances#also this book is over 100 years old! I got it at a vintage shop a while ago. there's a note on the inside saying it was gifted from#(I assume) a student to his teacher for christmas in 1922#poetry#alfred tennyson#in memoriam#academia#dark academia#poem of the month

Title: 25 Years of Christmas - 2006 Author: AlindaKB Word Count: 9248 (for now) Rating: Teen and up Prompt: Paper Wrapped Books Four books sit in the foreground of a collection of festive objects, that appear to be sitting on top of a side table or buffet. The book covers have been wrapped in various plaid papers, obscuring their identity but leaving the pages visible. Behind the books are two ornate glass baubles, a crystal dish filled with gold tinsel and a red bow. In the background, an earthenware vase with a cherub figurine on one side has small evergreen boughs spilling out over its edge. A large cluster of red berries is suspended from an unknown object above the centre top of the image. To the right-hand side, a small three-tiered brass stand holds a pair of small gold-rimmed wine goblets, and other small trinkets that are only partially visible. We're going to do a Secret Santa at my school and I ended up not getting my TC. I'm very sad, but genuinely thinking about giving him another gift outside of this event we're going to do. I have no idea if he caught me in the draw or not, but I think he ended up catching a friend of mine, so angry! I wanted an excuse for a new photo with him in full body, with his arms hugging me and with his happy face looking at me while he gifts me 😭

Why is it that when I'm sick, finishing work late because a load of people didn't show up and ongoing work drama, stressed about my upcoming essay and still have a hour walk before I can get home, my dad is apparently kicking off and threatening to kick me out when I'm not even there??
#ace is a mess#+Extra#personal#apparently hes kicking off about the fact i 'chose to pay off my loan' which isnt true i didnt get any tuition loan this year so i have to#pay it out of pocket and unlike some students i absolutely will not be receiving any financial support to do so so im working to pay it off#and hes apparently fuming about it and is bringing up the fact i owe him money cus when i asked for a nee laptop for Christmas for uni#and repeatedly specified that i just wanted the cheapest most basic option possible and even found several under the budget for gifts#my dad decided to get a more expensive one with a bigger screen which is not what i asked for or needed!! a bigger screen makes it#ten times more cumbersome to take to class for notes and assignments and ive ended up still having to borrow uni laptops regardless all#cus hes got some ongoing issue about me having my own finances & not being financially dependent on him so he keeps making a point about it#hes so transparent that its all a fcking control thing as it has been since i chose what i wanted to do at college and he didnt approve#and i didnt change it and stuck with it regardless because my career plans have nothing to do with him honestly#btching that if i can afford to pay off my loans i can afford to pay him back which i cant! i cant afford my tuition thats why im staying#over summer to keep working so i can pay off my debt im not paying it off i never had it im in debt! and if i dont pay it i wont be able#to continue with uni whereas he technically still owes me 2k he can be fcking patient about his money which i knew this was gonna happen#when he kept insisting there might not be cheap options available despite me finding multiple 🙄#you know i get asked a lot why ive ended up at unis so far north when im from the south and its like i had to get away being half a days#drive away is the only way for my parents to physically leave me alone theyll still hound my phone but thats what airplane mode is for

Time to hijack the post with my Toffifee!!
Black tabby with agouti fur inside the stripes, and a warm saturated underfur! Very soft too (my other cat feels like straw comparatively, ahaha)

(Yes, she’s overweight… we’re working on it)
Grim's patterning is so beautiful
#toffifee#grim#cats#photo#I am 100% in the whole “most cats are just random bred” (as a vet student etc) but damn#Toffifee really gives me the impression that’s she’s half-Bengal (second most popular bred in my country after the Maine Coon)#from the physical side of things (one thing is a coincidence but when multiple uncommon traits pile up & can be explained by one origin…)#and also temperamentally. She’s very active! Barely sleeps compared to Woowoo! She’s exclusive to me (despite living with my parents)#and my mother gives her food (it’s why she’s fat… I keep trying to control her food intake and my mother goes “she’s starving!”)#only to cite a few (I can’t remember if chattiness is a common trait in Bengals)#but yeah. At the end of the day… she’s just a domestic shorthair :p because she doesn’t have a pedigree. Got her from the shelter#her timeline makes it look like she was a failed Christmas gift that was thrown out during the summer vacations#(and like… sellers do lie about cat breeds while selling random breds for hundreds. Even now people purposely mix breeds to sell them)#I’ve also seen cat breeders sell their failed litters (because momma went and got cuddly with a random tom) so Toffifee could come from tha#my mother insists that Woowoo is one quarter Maine Coon because the woman who gave him to us said she’s sure the father is that one#longhair that’s half Maine Coon. Press X to doubt. The woman said Woowoo was a blue tabby when he’s a black tabby.#Woowoo is just a tall boy (& short haired but long hairs are recessive so whatever) & that’s fine!!#shut the fuck up Fy. No one cares#ok I’ll stop rambling
