Yarn for Christmas?

An open PSA to anyone with crafting friends (and isn't really sure what they like):

DON'T BUY THEM YARN

Part of the hobby is the purchasing yarn, which some might argue buying yarn and using yarn are two different hobbies. "But OP," you might argue, "I just know they'll love the Red Heart Super Saver I got on sale at Joann's! One skein should be plenty, and they can make me a sweater!"

This is one of those rare cases where a gift card to their favorite yarn store is more personal. First off, nothing against Red Heart, but if they're a yarn snob, it's going to collect dust. If they're a project-oriented purchaser, it's going to collect dust. If they like to buy yarn, then it's just mean.

Also, NEVER imply that your crafting friend should make something for you. If they love you, they will. If they don't, then you're not close enough to be making expensive demands.

There’s 35 days till X-mas, which means it’s time for me to once again over commit on a bunch of hand made gifts because I am an insane person.

I have 10 co-workers. We are a small handyman crew and a question started going around, “if you were a tool, which one would you be?” It started off as this dumb personality quiz thing that we had some fun with and ended up on our official website. And I don’t know why, but at some point I thought, “wouldn’t it be cute if everyone had a patch of their chosen tool? That would be so fun!” And when I couldn’t easily find a place to make 10 individual custom patches for not very much money, my second thought was “well how hard could it be to make them?”

So on election night, as a means of stress coping, I decided to try to teach myself embroidery.

And like, it’s going ok?? I watched one youtube video but then kinda just went for it and I don’t know if I’m doing it “right” but they are definitely looking like something and I’m having a lot of fun, so I’m gonna just keep trusting the process!

I’m not sure yet how I’m going to finish their edges or what shape I’ll ultimately cut them in, but the main image is coming out mostly how I want them to look!

Upgrading the 'polaroid magnet' idea of 2019 for 2023's Xmas card trades, these ones are made from wood and use actual magnets! Luxurious! |D All the poses are also referenced from actual party photos i've taken of other people, to add to the candid vibe lol.

The dreamcatcher is kind of a gag gift (yes the craft project i reffed here) for some friends. Since they don't have the ability to fight their nightmares i have offered to [try and] do it for them XD

Made from: Wooden craft polaroid (plus some backing MDF pieces), magnet, misc decorating items (glitter, wooden shapes, gel pens, paint etc). The dreamcatcher is just a storebought one with laminated paper mes wired to it
