Sometimes it seems like the prevailing ideas of today state that "damsels in distress" are *bad*. Terrible. An archaic example of misogyny, belonging only in fairytales written centuries ago (and condemned even there). And while I agree that it is *quite* wrong to think that the ONLY role for a damsel is Distressed, I also feel like it's gotten to the point where a heroine is shamed if she *cannot* save herself. Where being in a bad spot you need help to get out of is seen as weak, stupid, and unrealistic.

I think that's really wrong, too.

No human being has all the answers. No mortal individual can truly save themselves, not in the eternal scheme of things anyway.

We are all In Distress until we accept Christ as our savior from sin.

Don't give me a heroine who "don't need no man". Give me someone who *has* been saved, and who is *happy* instead of frustrated that they didn't "save themselves". Give me someone who is grateful for the second chance at life they have been given, and who spends the time they have left helping others, because instead of living a self-centered life, they want to show the world the same kind of help and love they have been shown.

It's uncomfortable because of the exposure to things you think you may not have been prepared for. However, what appears to be initially uncomfortable is in reality the space you may need to be in, so that you can progress. It's apart of the process. Light reveals, and darkness conceals. It's obvious that we do associate darkness with evil, but darkness can also be associated with something hidden. In the light more things are shown to us. Tools, aids, insight, information, truth, etc. It's imperative that we look at the new space as something to help us make the proper moves, versus turning the light back off. It's a needed adjustment. In the physical realm light, in many cases, is vital. If it weren't then God would have never spoke it into existence.
