Julian Erosa submits Christian Rodriguez in the 1st via guillotine
Fun fight! Always good to see the middle of the pack featherweights square off. I really like how Rodriguez looked before this went to the ground. Was doing well on the feet, landing with the 1-overhand repeatedly. Doing a good job of getting respect, though there were definitely moments where Erosa just decided to press. And it made sense, he was significantly bigger than Rodriguez. Eventually, he was able to force Rodriguez to the ground and get his back. Rodriguez managed to reverse position but ended up in a guillotine and was forced to tap.
I really like Rodriguez. He's a solid fighter who never panics when put in a bad position. He's tough and smart. But he's not an athlete and he's small featherweight. If he's going to end up in bad positions and being forced to work out of them, this is bound to happen now and again. A bigger, skilled fighter with experience is able to put him in a bad position and then punish him when he goes to work his way out.

On a side note, I looked back at last year’s entries, and I definitely thought Bouquet was Banquet, so instead of admitting I was wrong, I did it as a sub this year. If you noticed, no you didn’t :)
Also funny story about Shallow, I kept reading it as Swallow, so I couldn't do it

Saw that Rosas Jr lost his walkover fight and watched it. Christian Rodriguez gave him the business in those last two rounds.
If you’re going to be a grappling centric fighter in the UFC and you’re only 19-20 years in the UFC, you better be a All American level wrestler, a freak Chimaev-level athlete, or both. And Rosas is none of that. Dude tried to impose his physicality and speed on Rodriguez and Rodriguez was just fine.
