I haven't watched this yet, but it seems likely to be relevant.
I really appreciate that Lower Decks takes the music seriously. Even though it's an animated series, the music is as beautifully composed and orchestrated as any other series. The main theme is evocative of The Next Generation theme, which makes sense since it's a TNG spinoff, but it's not derivative. And there are leitmotifs that make frequent appearances (triumphal theme, tendi's orion theme). They don't skimp and it makes me so happy.
I would kill for someone who actually knows what they're talking about to analyze this. Music theory side of tumblr? You guys got any Lower Deckers?

TL;DR – I was not sure what to expect with this film going, but a deep exploration of generational trauma was the surprise that the film needed, that and gravy. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4 out of 5. The 90's electronic dance music consisted of a lot of varied triumphs. Some sadly didn't do much later on despite the promise they showed. For instance, Sneaker Pimps' debut gave us a different band than whatever the consequent versions were. True, we can applaud the group for taking that much of a risk, yet did they really have to go all the way here? I get their reasons, though they could've done the same with the original lineup, which had a certain chemistry. Then again, would that have much difference in their fortunes thanks to the way the style they worked in turned later on? True, they were put in a trip hop bracket despite having their own niche there. Maybe the latter meant they felt free to follow their whim by abandoning their most famous sound.

Happy New Year! Looking for comic recommendations, which are your favorites? Genre doesn't matter very much, I was raised on the original run of Amazing Spider-Man
Happy new year! Some fun ones from the last couple years-
Rock Candy Mountain by Kyle Starks and Chris Schweizer- Fantasy-americana post-WW2 madcap about an unbeatable hobo on a quest to find the titular Big Rock Candy Mountain, and the washed-up screenwriter he drags along for the ride. Two volumes.
We Only Find Them When They're Dead by Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo- space opera about mining crews who work harvesting tissues from dead galactus-like entities. Unlike most of these it was an ongoing I haven't caught up with and thus the only one I can't vouch to have stuck the landing. Great imagery though. Galactus Whalefall
Dead Body Road by Justin Jordan and Matteo Scalera- Elmore Leonard/Donald Westlake inspired crime-revenge-rampage/maguffin hunt thing. Actually anything Justin Jordan writes but I took some effort to prevent this entire list becoming Kyle Starks and Justin Jordan books 20th Century Men by Deniz Camp and Stipan Moran- Alternate history where the USA and USSR deploy nationalized superhumans to Afghanistan during the 1980s.
Daybreak by Brian Ralph. Zombie apocalypse story with the gimmick of being told entirely from a first-person perspective.
Frontiersman by Patrick Kindlon and Marco Ferrari- a 60-something Green-Arrow analogous superhero who's gone bush is coaxed out of hiding by environmentalists to do a tree sit protest, only for all hell to break loose as all the superhuman contacts he left hanging track him down to settle their accounts. He Will Not Leave The Tree. This was supposed to be an ongoing but I think it only managed one volume.
Hard Boiled by Frank Miller and Geoff Darrow- Gonzo retrofuturistic self-parody of Miller's usual fare, about a hard-as-nails guntoting unstoppable IRS agent whose choppy Noir narration reads like a stroke-in-progress. Rife with Miller's typical derangements about women, and carried in many respects by the visual buffet of Darrow's interiors, it nonetheless convinced me that All-Star Batman and Robin might have been written that way as a deliberate gag instead of out of a complete lack of self-awareness.
Ultimate Spider-Man by Bendis and Bagley- the progenitor of the original Ultimate Marvel Line, and also the progenitor of the Bendisian house style that would eventually eat the rest of Marvel's output for the 2000s and 2010s due to how popular it was. I got about 110 issues in until I got wrenched away from it by life developments a couple months back, but throughout that run it cemented itself as basically the cohesive take on Spider-Man for me.

The suspected gunman in a violent shooting at a Target store in downtown Los Angeles was arrested Tuesday, just a few short blocks from where the crime occurred.
The unidentified suspect, who police referred to as a person of interest, was arrested after an hourslong standoff at an apartment building on the 1200 block of Ingraham Street in the Westlake District.
Police say the suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment as officers attempted to serve a warrant at the residence. Viewer footage from the scene showed several broken windows and KTLA’s Chris Wolfe reported several canisters of tear gas were delivered into the man’s makeshift bunker.
Images later shared with KTLA showed a person being detained at the scene surrounded by several heavily armed officers, including special enforcement bureau officers wearing gas masks.
The arrest came hours after the Los Angeles Police Department held a press conference to discuss the ongoing search and released the first images of the gunman, who shot two security guards at the Target store located in the FigAt7th shopping mall.
According to police, the suspect, a man believed to be in his early 20s, shot the two security guards after they confronted him for shoplifting.
The suspect entered the store carrying a briefcase and filled it with stolen items before walking past the registers without paying, police officials said during a Tuesday press conference.
“He was confronted by the security guards outside the Target where a confrontation ensued,” LAPD Capt. Raul Jovel said. “During that scuffle, the suspect produced a pistol and began firing indiscriminately, shooting two people.”
Police also confirmed that one of the two security guards was armed and exchanged gunfire with the assailant. “This was a gunfight,” Jovel added.
At least 10 rounds were fired between the two with several walls hit. At the time of their afternoon press conference, LAPD officials said it was unclear if the gunman was hit by return fire.
Photos shared by LAPD Tuesday morning showed the man who fired and struck the two security guards. He was described as being between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall and weighing around 160 pounds. At the time of the shooting, he was wearing a black jacket, purple scarf, gray pants and a black do-rag.
The man’s weapon was described as a 9mm pistol.
Prior to his arrest Tuesday evening, he was considered to be armed and dangerous.
The shooting, which happened around 9 p.m. at a Target store located at 735 S. Figueroa St. in the FigAt7th shopping mall in downtown L.A., left the two security guards hospitalized, one of whom was in critical condition.
During Tuesday’s press conference, LAPD officials provided a positive update, saying that one of the security guards had been released from the hospital.
The armed security guard was employed by the shopping center, police said, while the other works in loss prevention for Target.
FigAt7th said in a statement that the mall was “deeply troubled” by the incident that occurred Monday night and was working closely with police in their investigation.
A statement from Target added that the company was “saddened by this horrible act of violence and our thoughts are with those who were injured, their friends and families.”
The store where the shooting took place remains closed as of Tuesday night, store officials confirmed.
Jovel said the LAPD and its law enforcement partners were committed to combating retail theft as they “strive to make downtown a safe location to visit, live and work at.”
The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD Central Robbery Detective Alvarez at 213-833-3750.

Unlikely they’d go to Harvard Westlake bc it’s a super high achieving academic school that’s very competitive and way more important/wealthy ppl send their kids there that the Sussexes couldn’t compete with. It’s more likely that the kids would go to crossroads in Santa Monica where Gwyneth Paltrow sent her kids— it’s super mushy, no AP course
Hey, fun fact about Gwyneth Paltrow’s kid. Her daughter, Apple, was kicked out of Harvard Westlake for bullying, which is how she ended up at Crossroads. She allegedly was such a prolific bully that one of her targets attempted to unalive themselves. There was a major fallout between several parents and the school over the bullying that led to many kids getting pulled out/kicked out, and Gwyneth and Chris Martin spun Apple getting kicked out in a way that made it sound like she was one of the kids getting bullied and they were part of the group of concerned parents pulling their kid out.
Also, Apple Martin is attending Vanderbilt University (which is quite prestigious) and the rumor is that some sizable donations were made on her behalf to get her into the school because she didn’t have the academic standing to get in.

Writers of the Future Volume 40: Audiobook review
Hi! This is a collection of short stories that I listened to in an audiobook format while referencing the illustrations simultaneously and before I talk about the short stories, I have to give shoutout to the illustrations!! Kudos to the illustrators because they did an amazing job! Now onto the short stories- we have twelve stories mainly, of the sci-fi genre and they are from various authors specifically handpicked. Here’s more about the short stories:
Book blurb
Twelve captivating tales from the best new writers of the year as selected by Writers of the Future Contest judges accompanied by three more from L. Ron Hubbard, Nancy Kress, S.M. Stirling. Each is accompanied by a full-color illustration.

Book review-
I have to say that this collection of stories is worth checking out if you want to be exposed to multiple writers’ works all at once and especially if you enjoy sci-fi! This is a wide variety of reads, some parts from the human’s perspective and some, not. Some stories are realistic, some are realistic (almost scarily so), and some humourous in its ridiculousness while others make you think.
I will say- I’m not a sci-fi reader. And some of these reads were hard to stomach in the start but for me- the more I read, the more I enjoyed. And saying this as a very rarely into sci-fi story reader, this is a beginnner friendly read. The illustrations are great and match the stories so well, and the audiobook narrator pulls out all the stops to make hearing this antropology enjoyable. I would definitely recommend checking this out!
I hope you enjoy this read! Thank you to Galaxy Press and bookinfluencers.com for my copy of the audiobook!
