Embrace Thanksgiving
This is a really great Thanksgiving Devotional to peruse through and enhance your soul in gratefulness, creating a desire to Embrace a lifestyle of Thankfulness.
Embrace Thanksgiving This is the season for Thanksgiving, so we are more aware of being grateful, but it would be such a great thing for our souls if we would embrace “Giving Thanks” as a way of life, a part of our daily life from day to day. I am thinking if we do this, if we become grateful, thankful people, on a daily basis, embracing thanksgiving as part of our character, we will know God’s…

Total Surrender
“Anyone who loves his life loses it, but anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. [Whoever has no love for, no concern for, no regard for his life here on earth, but despises it, preserves his life forever and ever.] If anyone serves Me, he must continue to follow Me [to cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying] and wherever I am, there will My servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.” John 12:25-26AMPC
Chris Tomlin has the song ‘Take My Life;’ “Take my life and let it be consecrated to Thee Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee Take my voice and let me sing always, only for my King Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from Thee Take my silver and my gold, not a might would I withhold Take my intellect and use every power as You choose Here am I, all of me, take my life, it's all for Thee Take my will and make it Thine, it shall be no longer mine Take my heart, it is Thine own, it shall be Thy royal throne Take my love, my Lord I pour at Your feet, it's treasure store Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for Thee…”
We talk Christianese talk, but do we walk the Christ-walk? Are our lives truly His? The very essence of His life in ours? This is commitment, dedication, total surrender. Such a dedicated life wouldn’t bat an eye in fear at the thought of martyrdom. Why? There’s a knowledge, a knowing of the total love of God— His life for ours.
In youth, my life was sinful and worldly. When I came to Jesus I was over my ways being ‘right.’ I gave Jesus my entire life. Some call me a fanatic. Others call me radical. But I found, “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him” Psalm 34:8KJV. The total game changer for me went beyond being sold out in salvation when God entrusted me with the baptism of Holy Spirit. WOW.
We owe Jesus everything: He suffered death— “Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but He died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but He was raised to life in the Spirit” 1Peter 3:18NLT. He took the pain of death. “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 1Corinthians 15:55NIV. There is only one breath between here and eternity.
I can’t imagine the fear that would come in death for a person who refused His free gift, with Jesus speaking “…I will warn you whom to fear: fear Him who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him!” Luke 12:5ESV.
Would we be willing to die for Jesus? We see how far that thought got Peter and the ten other disciples at Jesus’ arrest, see Luke 22:33: Matthew 26:55. Today, the way satan has been allowed into the rule of our nation, martyrdom could become an actual possibility for us Believers in the USA.
Our lives are nothing without Him. Following Him into death is no different than following Him in life. Walking in trust and dedication, then heaven with the next breath. Will you trust Him with everything you are and have? It’s your choice. You choose.
LET’S PRAY: Lord God help us to surrender our all to You in total trust and dedication of our lives, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

The Faith Manifesto
Looking over all the blogs that I’ve posted these past few months, I feel that the main aesthetic given off had to do with the theme of faith. As previously expressed in one of my blog posts, my faith is a big part of my life and naturally made a repeating appearance throughout the blog posts, even though there were many different things that one could take from the blog. The posts that relate to the faith aesthetic the most I would say were the painting, poetic license, and musical theme posts.
Looking back to the first post, I remember trying to think of a work of art that could best express my sensibility and values, and I could not choose a better work of art than the painting of the woman washing Jesus’ feet by Daniel Gerhartz. This painting shows a woman knelt on the floor, washing someone’s feet with her hair. She has a look of delicateness and passion on her face which creates this feeling of gratitude. Seeing how the woman had faith in Jesus and acted on it encouraged me in my faith and helped me reflect on it. It also reminded me that I have so many things to be grateful for and taught me about humility in the faith. The way that the colors are mixed in the painting gives a soft brightness to it and creates a feeling of warmth and peace, which mirrors the woman’s expression and feeling as she acts on her faith in Jesus.
Another blog post that the theme of faith made an appearance in was Poetic License. In this post I wrote about a poem titled “Knocking” by Harriet Beecher Stowe. This poem was the author’s response to Revelations 3:20, “behold I stand at the door, and knock.” Stowe’s response to the verse in the beginning is that she is tired and weary and far too broken and gone to be saved and I felt this correlated to faith because to open your heart to someone claiming to give you rest after you have been tried and have gone through so much is an act of faith. For example, the use of the door as a metaphor in comparison to the heart when she says, “for the key is stiffly rusty…choke the passage of that door,” one can imagine/feel the turmoil that she is going through, and to me, that’s what an act of faith is, choosing to believe even when it seems impossible and like all hope is lost for you.
Finally, another post that was consistent with the theme of faith was the musical theme post. The very theme of this blog post was faith because as I said, my faith is the basis of my identity and that impacts my choice of music, which is faith-based. This post contained different genres of faith-based music, and how they tied into the theme of faith. I personally was amazed at the ability to find a song for each different genre in my playlist because I’d always seen them as just gospel music. The first song of the list was a folk song called Wade in the Water by The Spirituals, which gives the message of God calling us into freedom and we must persist and have faith in Him. There are many voices melodically put together in the song that just give the feeling of angels singing in heaven and correlates to their faith. Then we went into Hip-Hop with Jireh by Limoblaze, which proclaims God as a provider that provides for those who have and maintain their faith in Him. In addition, we have Good Good Father by Chris Tomlin (country), You say by Lauren Daigle (Pop), Tonight by Limoblaze (R/B and Soul) and Look up Child by Lauren Daigle (Gospel). The artists used these songs to really express their faith in God by creating feelings of confidence, solace, calm, reassurance with their words and different things such as the tempo, dynamic, and melody.

[Download] If I Could Have Anything - Housefires
Community-driven collective Housefires, the group behind worship staples like “Build My Life” and “Good Good Father,” shares “If I Could Have Anything (feat. Blake Wiggins & Ahjah Walls)” via Capitol CMG / TRIBL Records. This is the third single from the group’s forthcoming album ‘How To Start A Housefire,’ due January 27. “If I Could Have Anything” opens with 3x GRAMMY nominated singer Ahjah Walls’ introspective prayer, sharing her desire to be known and loved by the Creator over an elegant piano progression. The minimalist instrumentation erupts into a full-fledged worship session led by core member Blake Wiggins, with convicting vocals, booming harmonies and inspiring passion. The song immerses the listener into the community that Housefires has become known for through the years, showcasing the raw, unfiltered approach that the group takes from writing to recording. Chapter 14 “The Miracle of Easter, Psalm 139
4/3/2021
Psalm 139: 13-16 (NKJV)
“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.”
I honestly don’t remember exactly where, when or how I stumbled onto this psalm. It was sometime in the last couple weeks, and I remember being immediately captivated by David’s poetry of God’s perfect knowledge of mankind. Just a few verses before the passage I quoted above, David asks his creator where he can flee that God will not find him? Whether heaven or hell or the highest mountain or the uttermost parts of the sea, David marvels that God will always find him and be with him, no matter what. (This brought to mind that children’s book where a small child asks his mother if she will still be able to find him no matter what animal he becomes and where he hides. The mother answers that she will always find and love her precious son, no matter what.)
Then I read the four verses that I quoted above, and I had to stop short. I read them again and again, soaking in the words that were at once familiar and suddenly brand new. Somewhere in my early childhood I had memorized verses 13 and 14. Now, pairing them with verses 15 and 16 I was struck by David’s message, especially in verse 16. In the KJV translation, that verse reads, “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in Thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” This verse was new to me, but I had a pretty good idea of what David was saying. But, to get a better idea, I reached for my MacArthur study Bible which is published in the NKJV translation. As soon as I read verse 16 there, I smiled to myself. Yes, I was right.
For the last two weeks I have not been able to get this verse out of my head. God knew me before I was even conceived. He had numbered all my days, had written my whole life from beginning to end, before I was even born. I have been trying to wrap my puny, finite mind around this inconceivable, quantum-sized yet massively cosmological concept. How does a being that exists outside our known space and time, a being that has always been and always shall be, a being that knows my entire life’s story before it’s even begun, a being more vast and omnipresent than the universe He created, have any interest at all in the comparatively insignificant, finite, puny beings that He created but who then immediately disobeyed and rejected Him?
God could have started over. He had no obligation to Adam and Eve whatsoever. He could have wiped them from existence with a single, spoken word. And, in fact, a millennium or so later, He did wipe out all of the human race and started over with just Noah and his family. And even then, mankind has still behaved towards God with great rebellion and sin. In my own life, I declared a long time ago that God didn’t exist. I even said at one point to myself, in the deepest dark of my teenage despair that I hated God. I hated Him for the way He had made me.
And yet, according to Psalm 139:16, God knew every word, every action, every rebellious thought that I would hurl at Him before I was even born. He also knew the day I would raise my eyes to the night sky behind the neon streetlamps six months ago and whisper a sinner’s prayer of forgiveness and surrender. He knows the exact time and day of my death or if I’ll still be alive the day that His son returns in the clouds to rapture the believers home. He knows my every choice, my every thought, my every deed before I make any of them, and He has always kept me wrapped in His arms my whole life, patiently waiting until I was finally ready to wholly and completely surrender to Him.
I have been trying to understand not only the very existence and nature of God, but, more importantly, the depth and power of that kind of love. I have failed at both counts. Instead, I have only been able to quote verse 14 over and over. “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” My soul understands what my frail, limited mind cannot: that God, my Lord and Creator, my Great Savior, loves me in spite of my sin nature; in spite of all I have said and done against him; in spite of all my failures, both past and future.
He loved me enough to provide a way for my salvation.
Tomorrow is Easter Sunday. It’s the day we who believe in God and what His son did for us on the cross celebrate Jesus’ resurrection and His victory over death. This is a Bible story that I have known my whole life. I have sat through countless sermons and Sunday School lessons and family devotionals, and I have listened to my parents, my teachers, and my pastor expound on the greatest truth found in God’s Holy Word. This is the foundation of our faith, the only reason and sole hope of our frail, finite human existence. I know the timeline, the major events starting with the last supper, to the Christ’s anguished, desperate prayer to His heavenly father in the Garden of Gethsemane,  to the moment of death and the earthquake that tore the temple veil in two. I know that Peter denied his Lord three times, that the trial was a mockery, that Christ knew that Judas would betray Him, and that Pontius Pilate washed his hands of the matter after his wife told him she suffered a restless night of strange dreams about this particular Jewish rabbi.
I know about the crown of thorns, the beatings, the piercing of His side, the blood and vinegar that flowed from the wound, the nails that were driven into his hands and feet, the excruciating pain and extreme suffering that he endured while hanging there for many hours. I also know about the two thieves – one who acknowledged the lordship of Christ, and the other who stubbornly refused to believe in spite of the evidence right before his own eyes. I know that Christ finally gave up the ghost by raising His weary, bloodied head to the darkened sky and crying, “It is finished!”
I know that He was laid in the tomb after being wrapped carefully and reverently by his followers as they wept with great sorrow and grief. I know that on the morning of the third day, when Mary and Martha came to the tomb, and when they found the stone rolled away and Jesus’ body gone, that they were both afraid and thoroughly confused. I also know that the angel of the Lord asked them, “Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, for he is risen as he promised! Go, and tell his disciples the good news!” And so they did.
I have known that story my whole life, every gory and heartbreaking detail. I have memorized many verses from the four gospels that speak of that great story. But, until this year, I have never known it in my heart and soul.
The God that David speaks of in Psalm 139 has known all my comings and goings, all of my thoughts and words, all my choices and heartbreaks, all my joys and accomplishments, all my times of deepest sorrows and despairs, before I was even conceived in my mother’s womb. He knows me from the very molecules of the protein strands of my DNA to every spiritual corner of my soul. His fingerprints are stamped into my genetic code, and He has loved me always.
I cannot fathom this, and my heart breaks as I contemplate the act of sacrifice that His son made on that cross on Golgotha’s Hill two millennia ago. Just writing those paragraphs describing the story of His death and resurrection has caused me to weep for what I did to send Him there. He bore the sin of ALL mankind – past, present and future – on that cross. That glorious, wonderous, terrible cross. He died for you, and He died for me.
Three months ago I started to expand my Apple music library with new albums and songs by current Christian singers and songwriters. One of them, Chris Tomlin, has a song called “The Wonderful Cross”. It’s his own arrangement of the hymn by Isaac Watts titled “When I Survey The Wonderous Cross.” I have been playing this song over and over during my daily commutes to work for the last few weeks.
When I survey the wonderous cross/On which the prince of glory died/My richest gain I count but loss/And pour contempt on all my pride
See from His head, His hands, His feet/Sorrow and love flow mingled down/Did e’er such love and sorrow meet/Or thorns compose so rich a crown
And now Chris’ own chorus:
Oh the wonderful cross/Oh the wonderful cross/Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live/Oh the wonderful cross/Oh the wonderful cross/All who gather here by grace draw near and bless Your name
This verse by Watts is what gets me every time:
Were the whole realm of nature mine/That were an offering far too small/Love so amazing, so divine/Demands my soul, my life, my all
I come before you, O Lord God, a sinner saved by grace. I recognize that I am not worthy of Your love, Your mercy, or Your forgiveness. But You loved me so greatly and so deeply that You sent Your only son to be born of a virgin, to live as one of us, and then to die by our filthy, vile hands so that we could all be washed beneath His pure blood. By this, you gave us a way to salvation, and all that I have to do is accept this gift by praying and believing in Your name. There is nothing that I could ever do on my own to attain this, and I promise you, O God, that for as long as I live, as long as You give me the ability to draw breath, that I will give You nothing less than my soul, my life, and my all.
           Amen.

Chris Tomlin & Friends
So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I will be talking about the latest album from Christian Music Singer Chris Tomlin.  This new album is titled "Chris Tomlin & Friends" which was released on Friday August 28th, 2020.  And this features a lot of help from both Country Music and the Christian Music worlds.
Chris Tomlin has been moving up the Country Music Airplay Charts lately with "Be a light" with Thomas Rhett, Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, & Hillary Scott of Lady A.  As I am writing this review that song is currently at number 2 on the charts.  And now more about the career of Chris in Christian music next.
Some of his greatest songs are "How great is our God", "Whom shall I fear (God of angel armies)", & "Good good father".  This current album was co-produced by Florida Georgia Line's (FGL) Brian Kelley, & Tyler Hubbard.  There are 13 tracks on this new project.  Let's talk next about some of the songs from the new CD.
Chris had help from both Country & Christian music on this album.  Names like Thomas Rhett, FGL, We the Kingdom, Lady A, Bear Rinehart from Needtobreathe, Brett Young, Cassadee Pope, Russell Dickerson, Raelynn, Chris Lane, & Blessing Offor.  Some of the songs that stand out are "Be the moon", "Together", & "Reaching for you".  And these songs were also co-wrote from many of our Country Music Friends.  Let's see the track list next.
Track list. 1. Thank you Lord (Intro). 2. Thank you Lord (Featuring Thomas Rhett, & Florida Georgia Line). 3. Reaching for you (Featuring We the Kingdom). 4. Who you are to me (Featuring Lady A). 5. God who listens (Featuring Thomas Rhett). 6. Power (Featuring Bear Rinehart from Needtobreathe). 7. Be the moon (Featuring Brett Young, & Cassadee Pope). 8. Sing (Featuring Russell Dickerson & Florida Georgia Line). 9. Chase me down (Featuring Raelynn). 10. Gifts from God (Featuring Chris Lane). 11. Forever home (Featuring Florida Georgia Line). 12. Together (Featuring Russell Dickerson). 13. Tin roof (Featuring Blessing Offor).
And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would usually give this album a review at this time.  But on Christian albums I have decided to not give a review.  But this is a good album and if you are a fan of Country Music or Christian Music you should check it out.  There are a lot of stand out songs.  Thanks for taking the time to read this review.  See ya all next time.

Burnt Marshwiggle, Castle, Father Christmas, Golden Chessman, Horn, Lion's Kiss, Mermaid, Ships, The King, annnddd Wardrobe! :(
Mackenzie that frowny face at the end of asks is the funniest thing to ever happen and I’m eternally grateful for that typo
here goes!
Burnt Marshwiggle: What verses do you lean on when you are feeling spiritually attacked/doubtful? –I am not very good at doing this, lol. Something I need to work on. But a few: -Psalm 34:10: “The lions may grow weak and hungry,    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.“ As long as I am seeking God, I will lack nothing. If I feel like I’m lacking, even that lacking is a blessing. - From Ephesians 3:17-18: “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ…” This helps me because I often worry that God’s love is not enough and I go looking for love and attention elsewhere. This is still definitely a lesson I’m learning, but his love is enough for me. And this verse gives me hope that his love is better than I could ever imagine. -There’s so many more, but I’d need an entire other post for them, haha.
Castle: gosh dang it I had this one coming didn’t I. How has being in a Christian community helped you, or what would you want out of one?–my dude. Tumblr has been one of the best things to happen to me. I have met Christian friends here, and when I am too scared to talk to Christians face to face, Tumblr friends have given me the encouragement and help I need when I was too scared to talk to people in real life. There’s a certain blessing in the anonymity sometimes. And then I’ve gotten to know some amazing, beautiful siblings in Jesus on here. And God has definitely spoken to me through others’ tumblr posts on here more times than I can count. –That being said, I need to find myself a community in “real life” lol. I need a place where I can talk to others about my struggles in person, and ask for prayers. I need a place I can serve. I LONG for a place I can serve, because I feel like serving others through a ministry or something is the only way I’ll ever do anything for God in my life. And I want to do that. And more than anything I just need a community of people who have the same desires and values as me.
Father Christmas: What’s one sign of hope you’ve been given by God during a long “winter”?–wow. I didn’t see this question before but it’s like it was written for me. I hope you don’t mind, I’m going to answer this in a separate post because it’s really important to me.
Golden Chessman: spiritually significant item passed down to you?–my Grandma gave me a necklace- a little golden cross- on the day I had my confirmation in church as a kid. That was kind of a big day for me, but I don’t know that I was really ready for it. I forgot to wear it on the day of my baptism years later, but I had it in my bag with me the day of.
Horn: What’s one prayer you’ve seen answered?–Man, I am feeling lately like I’m seeing so many of them answered. One of my favorites will always be when I had been praying for someone on tumblr to come back to Jesus, and then they messaged us, saying they had :’) I think you remember that too. That answer to prayers literally had me trembling.
Lion’s Kiss: oh, how i hoped someone would ask this question :’)What expression of God’s love in this world touches you most deeply?–I am always super moved when God notices little things that are bothering me and comforts me. For example, one of the biggest revelations I have had of the tenderness of God’s love was when we had to put my dog down last year. I was in awe of how gentle God was with my heart, and how he paid attention to that- even the death of an animal. He cared that much. He cares that much, even about the little things.
Mermaid: What song reminds you of God’s love the most?–so, for the first time ever, I think I’m not going to answer with a Phil Wickham song XD although I love all of his songs about God’s love, the one that always gets me is Chris Tomlin’s Good Good Father.
Ships: What has been your favorite part of your journey with God?–this is hard. I’m not sure, because a lot of my journey with God has been ridden with constant anxiety about my relationship with him. I guess I’d say now though- I think I’m becoming more open about my faith, and it’s becoming a part of my life more than ever before.
The King: What attributes of God are your favorite to study and to encourage yourself with?–definitely God’s gentleness and attentiveness. Partially because I always doubt this- but I am trying to convince myself of them. I always think his gentle love and attentiveness and care and concern in my life are too good to be true, but I’m trying to let him prove me wrong in that. I love that God tells us to call him “Abba”. For those who don’t know, that word is the equivalent of our “Daddy”. That always baffles me.
Wardrobe: When has God taken you somewhere you never expected?–Physically, I don’t know that he has- I had to move houses this year, because my parents moved, but we kind of expected that to happen someday. –I guess I had never considered myself open about my faith, or considered it a very big part of my life- but I’m seeing that change a lot now, and I’m seeing the change in myself. I couldn’t have guessed that that would happen. It’s definitely still a process, but I’m thankful for it, and I’m seeing changes in me that I wouldn’t have even thought of a few years ago.
Thanks for asking :(

Musical Theme
The theme that I chose is faith. I chose this theme because faith, no matter where you choose to put it, is an important part of life and plays a big role in a person’s identity. This theme is relevant to me because I was born and raised from a faith-based family and environment. My faith in Jesus is a very big part of who I am and is the basis of my identity and one of the things that impacts is the music I listen to…faith-based music, hence the theme of faith.
Wade in the Water- The Spirituals (Folk) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxZ4H-gq_lc
This song ties in with the theme of faith because it was written by African American slaves who had faith in God and believed that He would free them from slavery. The overall message of the song is that God is calling them into freedom and they need only persist and have faith in Him. This piece demonstrates a high degree of consonance as there are many voices put together melodically. The dynamic of the music changes from soft to loud throughout the song creating contrast in dynamic and in the instruments used. I would say this piece’s structure is fantasia and it invokes a feeling of hope and assurance.
Jireh- Limoblaze, Lecrae, Happi (Hip-Hop) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grjYSOqkCzU
This song ties to the theme of faith because they are proclaiming God as Jireh- their provider, meaning they have faith that He will provide for them and never fail them. This son has a steady and upbeat rhythm which create a theme. I would say it has a rondo structure and loud and upbeat dynamic, which along with the words of the song, invoke a feeling of confidence and consolation.
Good Good Father- Chris Tomlin (Country) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ak0OoFBw3c
I chose this song as part of this theme because it is declaring that God is good and that the person is loved by God, which demonstrates said persons’ faith. This song is soft and has a mellow tempo and steady guitar melody. It has a high degree of consonance as it seems to have multiple voices singing together but all sounding the same. The dynamic, tempo, and melody of this song invokes a soothing feeling.
You Say- Lauren Daigle (Pop)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYIvB0VCmVw
Like the previous song, this song is soft and had a mellow tempo with a piano leading a steady melody. The added I’m assuming violin gives it a flowy feel and altogether the song gives a feeling of solace and calm. This piece ties in with the theme because the songwriter writes about finding her identity in her faith in God.
Tonight- Limoblaze (R/B and soul)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFmbJFK-YMk
This song is about someone looking to strengthen their faith in times when they feel at their lowest, which ties it in with the theme. There is a simple two beat rhythm that repeats, creating a theme and I would say it has a rondo structure. This piece gives a soothing emotion.
Look up Child- Lauren Daigle (Gospel) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkh8ou5KH3c
This song alternates between a slow tempo and a faster tempo. The rhythm also alternates as there are places where there’s little to no rhythm and places where the rhythm is upbeat. Like all the other songs, this song gives a feeling of reassurance and confidence in one’s faith, which is how it also ties in with the theme of faith.
