Will you stop when you get there?
Let’s talk about why so many people feel unfulfilled and unsatisfied in life. The problem isn’t where you are—it’s how you’re moving through life. Too many of us fixate on the destination, believing that once we get there—whether it’s a job, a relationship, a certain income level, or some form of success—we will finally feel complete. But what happens when you reach that point? If you were only walking to get there, you’ll stop. You’ll look around and realize… this isn’t what you thought it would be. The excitement fades, and you start looking for the next thing to chase.
Think about someone who loves walking for the sake of walking. They don’t just stop when they reach a certain landmark. They go farther, explore new paths, and challenge themselves because they enjoy the act itself. But if someone is only walking to reach a destination, once they get there, they stop. There’s nothing left pulling them forward. Life works the same way. If you’re only working, learning, or growing because of where it will get you, you’ll always feel empty when you arrive.
Fulfillment doesn’t come from the destination. It comes from engaging with life, being present in what you do, and enjoying the journey itself. If you feel stuck or unsatisfied, ask yourself: Are you only chasing an outcome, or are you finding meaning in the process? The “why” behind what you do matters far more than where you’re trying to go.
If this reached you or there was something that truly resonated with you, please like and share in hopes this will maybe reach someone that it could help.

Challenge: Brilliant Minds for Pure Blue Skies with Sustainable Aviation Fuels - Technology Org

Challenge: Brilliant Minds for Pure Blue Skies with Sustainable Aviation Fuels - Technology Org
Modern planes predominantly rely on gas turbines, with Jet A as their go-to aviation fuel. When burned, it releases water, CO2—a long-lived greenhouse gas, and other pollutants like nitrous oxides and soot.
An airplane on a runway. Image credit: Chris Leipelt via Unsplash, free license
These contrail-producing emissions not only exacerbate global warming but also present an atmospheric dilemma as air travel is poised to grow by 2.9% annually over the next decade. Thus, as the world pivots to greener transport modes, aviation’s carbon footprint will loom even larger.
Tackling this airborne challenge head-on, the U.S. is aiming to achieve net-zero aviation carbon emissions by 2050, with Sustainable Aviation Fuel fronting the charge.

In this challenge, however, we are setting our sights higher than merely offsetting aviation emissions with Sustainable Aviation Fuels. The mission? Forge direct pathways to eradicate harmful airborne culprits. While CO2 steals the limelight as a global warming antagonist, we’re equally wary of other emissions like water, NOx, and the sooty nvPM.
NASA’s University Innovation Project has championed groundbreaking ideas from academic corridors, but it’s time to expand their horizons. We’re on the hunt for untapped, avant-garde concepts that not only champion the environment but also hold promise for a holistic, eco-friendly aviation future.
This is a very straightforward crowdsourcing challenge. Express your innovative idea through the questions provided in the submission form and then hit submit! The difficult part is coming up with the breakthrough that leads to gloriously clean and healthy skies wherever planes fly.
Submissions to this Challenge must be received by midnight EET, Dec. 15, 2023.

Time flies

I'm just back from Colin Lewis' funeral.
There was lots of familiar faces and his daughter said some lovely and very moving things about her dad.
Like so many people who've come into my life, Colin was a larger than life character and I'll miss him -- particularly his generosity of spirit and sense of humour. But, and not to make this post about me, I couldn't help think how quickly the time had flown by since I last saw him and the impact that Covid has had on so many lives.
The thing is, if this pithy post is a reflection of anything (in case you're wondering) it’s not about bagging great fistfuls of time and wringing every moment dry but, instead, to remember that everything eventually dies or comes to an end; and that includes all of us.
So death, in this sense, should be the cradle of our days and not something to be avoided.
Blessings.

The Grand Prismatic Spring — located in Teton County, Wyoming, inside Yellowstone National Park — is the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest in the world. The spring is approximately 370 feet (110 m) in diameter, 160 feet (50 m) deep, and discharges an estimated 560 gallons (2,100 L) of water per minute. Its vivid colors, which match the rainbow dispersion of white light by a prism, are caused by layers of microorganisms that live around the edges of its mineral-rich water.

Sexism in Football. Why are women so far behind men?
Gender inequality in football is not a new concept but why is it still so severe when some people would argue that society no longer reflects this to the same extent? This is not a new issue as discussions about the pay gap, media coverage and facilities can easily be found anywhere you look. Despite playing the same game, training just as hard, and making very similar sacrifices, professional female footballers are paid just a fraction of a male player’s salary. Football is football, so why are some people so opposed to watching it when played by women? Perhaps, the stigma surrounding women in the sport can provide one of many answers. Some people misogynistically believe women are not as entertaining as men before even watching a match. These preconceived ideas about women’s football halts the progression of the sport as audiences of women’s football are drowned out by those unwilling to see it succeed. These misogynistic views are not hard to find either. You would only need to look at the replies to tweets about women’s football to see sexism is rife - https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-womens-star-brilliantly-shuts-19832136
Although in many cases the argument that women should not be paid the same due to difference in revenue bought in by the respective teams is understandably argued, however, this is not always correct. The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) filed a lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation on the basis of gender discrimination due to the pay gap between them and the men’s team. It has recently been reported that, since winning the 2015 Women’s World Cup, the women’s team brought in more revenue than the men’s team. The dominance of the women’s team is two-fold, the team brings in more money and more silverware, whilst the men’s team failed to even qualify for the World Cup. However, women should not have to be more successful for the chance of equal pay, their salaries should reflect those of their counterparts in the men’s team, just as any other field of work would require. Read more on this issue: https://www.politifact.com/article/2019/jul/11/does-us-womens-soccer-team-bring-more-revenue-get-/

History of women’s football in the UK
This gender inequality of football in the UK is largely due to the fact that the FA banned women from playing football in 1921 as they decided it was unsuitable for women. Before this ban a women’s football game could draw a crowd of over 60,000 supporters, as famously recorded, for example, on Boxing Day in 1917. Many men’s professional teams may struggle to even reach this now. This ban remained in place until 1969 when the women’s FA was formed. This temporary ban on women in football helped to shape the sport as a masculine game and allowed the men to receive undivided attention. Women in football, then, had to start from scratch to try and attract the interest they deserved. Women’s football, therefore, has had an inherent disadvantage in many aspects of the sport as a result of this ban, including in regards to money, accessibility, and media coverage.
The role of the Media
The media has a massive role to play in the promotion of women’s football, however, it can also create a space for people to share their sexist views and comments, especially on social media. It can be a useful tool in raising awareness of the women’s game, particularly in publicising location, times, and further information concerning matches being played. Without this, those would not actively seek out women’s football would be absent from the crowds. Responsibility should somewhat fall on the men’s teams and infrastructure to aid their women counterparts in generating similar levels of support. For instance, simple promotional tweets or posts can be put on their main social medias by the men’s players to reach a wider audience. One has to wonder how women’s football will ever be considered on par to the men’s game if the latter’s participants, with their larger audiences, do not make an effort to try and promote their club’s women? Likewise, the press could learn a thing or two, and dedicate as much column space to women as they do to men within these popular sport pages.

Photo by Norbert Braun on Unsplash
It is, however, hard to ignore the growth of women’s football over the last few years. The women’s Euros are being hosted by England in 2022 and they have sold 140,000 tickets in the pre-sale alone. Additionally, the average viewing figures of the professional Women’s Super League (WSL) have increased from 31,000 to 114,000 from the 2020/2021 season to the beginning of the 2021/22 season since the switch from the BT Sport channel to the Sky Sports channel. This rapid growth shows that there is a desire to watch women’s football, but it has to be made readily available and well-advertised. This needs to be done more. The transition of WSL coverage over to the BBC and Sky was the most expensive media rights deal in club level women’s sport. Progress is being made, as evident in the FA new agreement with ITV that allows the channel to show the women’s international matches alongside the men. With women’s football rightfully attracting more media coverage, the growth of the sport in this particular aspect is undeniable.

Concluding thoughts
It is clear there is a growing fanbase around women’s football, but inequality persists and should look to be tackled by everyone, including social media platform owners, the government and especially men in positions of power within football like professional male players and pundits like Ian Wright who very publicly supports women’s football. Methods to combat such sexism in the sport would require mass re-education on the harmful stereotypes placed on women and their role in society. Much can be done to dismantle archaic ideas in order for inequality and discrimination to become less commonplace. At the minute, discrimination is so ingrained within society that some are even unaware they are perpetuating such harmful ideas. Creating a culture of tolerance, and a safe space to call to light discrimination, would provide women players with the support they need to rival the men’s game. Fighting back against offensive remarks, for example, can provide greater space for more sponsors to become involved. Currently the game is somewhat unattractive to various associations who are unwilling to risk controversy around their brand name. Women’s football supporters then have their own role to play in proving to sponsors that support for the game can be financially and socially beneficial to themselves, as well as increasing the popularity and attractiveness of the sport. Attending matches is one of many ways to showcase this care, provided ticket prices are appropriate and attractive. Free tickets hold the risk of reducing the quality of women’s football in doubters’ eyes. Respectful pricing, financial support for brands who are willing to associate with the game, and directly calling out discrimination by reporting people and accounts can all play a role in levelling out the playing field. There are many campaigns for people to support, including #getonside by Women in Football supported by Barclays which is thriving for gender equality on and off the pitch - https://www.womeninfootball.co.uk/news/2021/09/14/big-names-getonside-with-major-new-campaign-to-promote-gender-equality-in-football/ .
